Midge lay listening to the February sleet pepper her windowpane, Lenny's arm slung possessively over her middle.

There was a peacefulness to him when he slept, she'd discovered, watching him like this all tangled in her sheets. Something in him that was always a little on edge just…melted away when he finally let himself drift off.

Part of her could hardly hold back from touching his cheek, caressing the stubble along his jaw, savoring every bit of him.

Another part of her was terrified to breathe, lest she wake up and find it had all just been a fantasy.

They'd talked a little, patched things up after the fight at Carnegie, and then quickly fallen into bed soon after. 

Repeatedly. 

But there was so much yet to be said between them, it kept her awake.

What they had felt so good. It felt real. Like she could fall asleep in his arms for the rest of her life.

And that scared the hell out of her. Because in her experience it was the good things that didn't seem to last.

If she lost her way again, lost herself, would he still be there to help her pick up the pieces?

Because the more often they did this, the more she was having a hard time seeing a future without him in it.

Without him in the picture things just felt hazy.

She knew he was still fighting his own demons. Knew he could just as easily lose his way. 

But he'd been trying. Really trying.

Still, some nights she wondered if it would be enough.

Could he love her enough to fix the hurts that lingered in her?

Could her love be enough to guide him away from those dark roads he'd traveled?

 Because she did love him.

God, did she love him.

He knew her. For all that he'd been skating around the edges of her life until recently, he knew her better at her core than possibly anyone. Maybe even better than herself.

And that should have been the scariest part of all but… it wasn't.

It was just the thought of losing him that scared her.

She snuggled in a little closer to his chest, breathing in the scent of him.

Lenny stirred at her movement, his arm wrapping around her a little tighter as he pressed a sleepy kiss to her hair.

"Don't go," he mumbled.

"I'm not going anywhere," she promised.

"Good. It's not allowed."

"No?"

"Nope." He shook his head, keeping his eyes closed as he nuzzled into her hair. "I like seeing you all debauched in the morning."

Midge smirked to herself. "The artist admiring his handiwork."

"Exactly," he yawned, settling back down.

She took a breath, her hand resting over his heart.

"Lenny?"

"Hm?"

"I don't want you to go either," she whispered.

"Okay I won't."

"I mean it."

"Me too."

"Promise?"

Lenny cocked an eye open at the question.

Taking in her expression, he gave her a quiet smile before kissing the tip of her nose.

"Promise."

Midge nudged into him until her head was pillowed on his shoulder.

And after a moment of working up her courage, she murmured, "I love you."

And just when she thought he might not have heard her or fallen back asleep he said "I love you too."

He kissed her again then lay back as they let the declaration hang in the air, settling into the space around them, filling in the blanks.

Midge breathed deeply and finally went to sleep, feeling the haze give way to comforting clarity.

It would be enough. They'd still have to put in the work, but whatever happened they would see it though together.

alright, this is one HELL of a shot in the dark, but...

I'm trying to find the origin fic of this song. "Too Big For Us" was a song that was included at the end of a Voltron Legendary Defender fic and I cannot for the life of me find the story.

There is every chance that this fic was deleted.

From what I remember, it was a Lance-centric 5+1 about him being the one to act as support for the others (and then the team supporting him in turn). I'm 99% sure it was on FFN since I didn't really start reading fics on AO3 until 2019-ish. The song might've been something put in an author's note as a broken up YouTube link thanks to no outside links allowed on FFN. (It... COULD have been Hunk as the focus character? but I'm pretty sure it was Lance. I've been telling myself it was Lance as the focus at least. god if it ends up being hunk and ) There weren't any ships as far as I remember either.

The file says it was modified on February 19th, 2017, which I assume is the day I downloaded it or the day it was published, seeing as the listed "creation" date is in March 2022 and I know I've had it for longer than that. If I'm remembering things right, it was posted as part of the last chapter of the fic, because it was a multichapter (I'm... slightly less confident in the multichapter status but I'm pretty sure it was?)

The order characters are referenced in the song was also the order they were in each chapter... but I have no idea which section Pidge is supposed to be @~@ part of me says I was annoyed/confused about the lack of a Pidge section the first time around too but it's been like 6 years so idk how much of that thought I actually believe. Otherwise, I think the order is Hunk, Keith, Allura & Coran, Shiro, Lance, and Pidge was somewhere in the middle.

The lyrics, as best I can make them out, are under the cut. A few lines are covered up in just the wrong way by the piano chords so I'm sort of guessing with the words in the brackets. (The mixing really isn't the best but I have no room to complain since I'm not a musician of any variety)
