A sequel to "Baby, I'm yours".

A/n: I wrote this because one I wanted to write more Na'vi Quaritch x Human Reader stories and two you would not believe the amount of people requesting that I write more or make a sequel.
Dog tags: An army necklace that's worn to be identified in case of death and is similarly shaped like a dog tag.
Nga yawne lu oer: "I love you."
Nga yawne lu oer nìteng: "I love you too."
@marahisthebest @sofysofiasofi @kassada @automaticwizardnerd @fourcefulcupid @anbanananna Enjoy!
Positive. You were positive on your third pregnancy test. You didn't know if it was possible but you were in fact pregnant with Quaritch's child. That could only be the case, he’s the only person you’ve been with for the past year.
Tears of joy brimmed in your eyes when the realization of a child was growing inside you and the fact it was his. You had to tell him, you wanted to tell him right now, but he was at work right now. So you waited until Miles came home, which was late in the evening. For this special occasion, you decided to make his favorite meal for dinner, Gumbo. A meal that takes him back to his hometown.
By the time you finished making dinner, you heard the door open to hear familiar footsteps.
"I'm home." Hearing his southern drawl of a voice again made you jump in excitement. You set the plates down and came to him with open arms. He immediately crouched down to hug you, his tail swinging back and forth.
Within a few seconds the aroma of spices and fresh meat filled his nose. "Is that Gumbo I'm smelling?"
You nodded your head. "Uh, huh."
He titled his head as his ears moved down. "Aw, thank you, baby." He kissed your forehead. "How ya doin’?"
"Good." You smiled but you couldn't hide the excitement bursting inside you. You smiled in a way that lets him know you're happy about something else but he didn't know what. Whatever it is, he was glad to come home and see you bright and happy.
"What's going on?" He smiled softly. "Did something happen?"
You didn't want to delay it any further so you just blurted out.
"..I'm pregnant." You looked at him carefully to see his reaction.
His eyes widened and ears perked up the moment you said 'pregnant'. He stood there frozen, his face deep in thought. He thinks back to the last time he saw Spider, after the battle of the sea dragon. He remembers when he was standing by his Irkan, injured, and reaching his hand out to Spider, hoping that he’ll come back with him to base. But instead Spider gave him a vicious hiss as his goodbye and jumped in the water and swam away. Quaritch was too injured to try and get him back and so he flew back to base on his Ikran.
It was at this moment that Miles knew that he can’t and will never have the father-son relationship he wanted. No matter how hard his memories demanded him to be with Spider, his attempts of reconnecting with his son failed.
And now here he was, at home with you and you telling him you were pregnant with his child. Could this be his chance of having a family again? Could he recreate what was broken? Were you willing to make a life with him?
"..Is this true, baby?" He said in a hoarse tone, like he couldn't believe what he just heard.
You nodded eagerly. "Yes!"
In less of a second, he lifted you up and wrapped his tail around your thigh, careful to not squeeze you. He was the happiest man alive on this planet.
"..Oh, darlin’, thank you." He smiled fondly at you and kissed you as he spoke words of endearment.
"..Thank you."
One year has passed since the birth of your son, Jason. He was born healthy and appeared as a full human baby. No tail or blue skin but he did have his father’s eyes, which was the only unusual thing about him but you didn’t care, you loved him all the same. As long as he was healthy and functioning well, that’s all it mattered to you. You couldn’t say the same for Miles in the beginning.
When Jason was born, Miles was overjoyed but when the baby opened his eyes, his eyes held the same color as his father. Golden orbs with cat-like pupils. They were Na'vi eyes and it did not sit well with Miles. Quaritch being surprised was an understatement. He wasn’t happy, he was displeased. He honestly thought that his human characteristics would be enough to pass his children as fully human. But who was he kidding, he's a 9,5ft blue alien. It’s a miracle (to him) that his child looked mostly human.
You remembered the look he made when he saw his child open his eyes for the first time. He looked like he saw something that was wrong with your baby and it worried you. "What's wrong?" You asked him.
"He's got..” He hesitated but his memories of his past life got the better of him. “He's got those hostile eyes." He frowned.
You your lips pursed. "...Hostile?!" You whispered yelled to not scare the baby. "How could you say that about our son?" You wish you could get out of the bed and smack him but your body was still too exhausted from the labor. "You better think about your next words carefully, Quaritch."
That name. You rarely ever use that name and when you did it struck through Miles and it made him think.
Was he really upset about it? Could it be his memories of hating the Na’vi transcend onto his own son? He felt disgusted with himself with this notion. From that moment, he had a change of heart, and promised to love the child you've created with him.
He says nothing and you took that silence to heart, making the floodgates open. You started crying and this time it wasn't out of the pain you endured to bring your son into this world or the moment you saw your son for the first time, it was because the love of your life, your partner, your husband, didn't accept the baby you've made. And It hurt you.
Miles saw the hurt in your eyes and immediately regretted what he said. He carefully put Jason down on the hospital crib and approached you slowly.
“..Baby, I’m sorry.” You could hear the guilt in his voice and it made you cry even harder. He wrapped his arms around you without crushing you as best as he could. He felt such a dick at the moment.
He took your hands gently into his, rubbing the knuckles of your hands with his thumb. “I was being an asshole and I shouldn’t have said all that bullshit.”
You nodded as you wiped off the tears on your face.“..Okay.”
When he was close enough to your face, you took that opportunity to grab his ears and yank them down hard. You could’ve grabbed his queue but you didn’t want him to hurt that badly so you settled with his ears.
“..Shit-” He winced, fighting the urge to pull you off because he knows he deserves it. “Ow, ow, ow! Okay, I get it, damn it!”
“Serves you right.”
It was the beginning of January, the year was 2173. You were at home in your room, holding your son in your arms. He was fast asleep when you put him back on the crib, watching him sleep peacefully. You hear small footsteps come behind you and you turned around to see Quaritch duck his head under the door.
He pouts as he touches the back of his ears.
He puts his hand on your shoulder.  "Is he asleep?" He whispered quietly.
"Yeah," You whispered back. "He sleeps so easily."
He chuckled. "Just like his old man."
You chuckled as well when the both of you left the room, closing the door quietly.
Unexpectedly, Miles lifted you up and carried you to the living room, you didn't even gasp. He's done this enough times for you to get used to it. He just likes picking you up since you're so small in size.
He sits on the couch with you on top of him, all nice and snuggled. It may be the beginning of the new year, but it was still a bit cold and Miles was a natural furnace as always.
You take the remote control and flip through channels until you settle on channel 13, a random animal documentary displaying on the TV screen. You did not expect to see a pair of lions seemingly horny and about to mate but you were curious enough to not switch the channel immediately.
“Lionesses are receptive to mating for three or four days within their reproductive cycle. During this time a male will mate every 20–30 minutes and can mate up to 50 times a day."  The camera zooms in on a female lion lying down with a male behind her, positioning himself to mate with her. You see Miles' tail moves in excitement as the two of you watch the two animals begin mating with each other.
"It is known that mating sessions last less than a minute so the male can copulate many times a day."
It's only been a minute since you sat down and watched some TV and already you feel him touch your thighs, letting you know exactly what he's thinking about. You can't help but lean back into his chest to hear him whisper into your ear, smiling against you.
"..Baby, let's make another one," His hands go under your shirt and shorts." I promise I'll last longer than a lion." He grinned at you and you couldn't help but chuckle. “What'd ya say, sweetcakes?" He kisses your ear, biting it gently with his fang.
The way he said that sends waves of arousal to your already wet pussy. Welp, there goes your cervix again.
"That depends." You whispered back. "Are you sure you want me to have a big belly and bigger tits again?"
You know by now that he would say yes but you want him to say it anyway.
He wrapped his tail around your thigh to keep you from going anywhere and without hesitation he said. "Anyday."
"Then come give it to me big daddy." You smirked in anticipation.
You didn't have to say it twice. His hands slip under your shorts and panties, his fingers graze against your lips, wetness coating them instantly. You heard him groan in delight behind you.
"Damn, yer so wet, sweetheart. You really want another one, don'cha?" He dips his large digits inside you, making you curl your toes and cry out in pleasure.
"..Fuck." You whimpered. "..Y-yes."
You hear an amused hum, a low vibration that comes from his throat and spreads to you. He slides his other hand under your shirt. You weren’t wearing a bra so he grabbed your breasts and massaged them with ease as he curled his fingers inside you. It is true that his hands are large to hold your breasts but that doesn't stop him from fondling it.
He whispered to you as if you two weren’t alone. "Feels good doesn't it, baby?" He said with a mix of love and lust tinting his voice. It didn’t take long for his fingers to reach your G-spot, making your legs tremble in indescribable pleasure. You moan and squirm but Quaritch is strong enough to hold you down without delaying the pleasure you’re feeling. Once he's gathered enough wetness, he starts rubbing your clit in circular motions.
The pleasure was beginning to become too much that you couldn’t control the volume of your voice. "..Yes, please, please don't stop! Don't-"
"Sh-ssh," He hushed you, pausing his movements to slow you down. "You don't wanna wake the baby, do ya?"
Of course not. It was one of your big hurdles that you and Miles learned to fuck more quietly snice you were a vocal woman and the fact Quaritch reached your cervix every time you guys made love.
He returns back to fingering you and this time you tried to moan quietly as best you could. "Here we go," He cooed softly. "That’s my good girl."
“..Fuck, I’m cumming.” You cried as your hips wiggled.
“Yes, yes, that’s right, babygirl. Keep goin’, cum into my hands.”
And as if on command you came on his fingers. Hot spurts of cum drenched into his hands and you're still shaking from the unstoppable fingering he's doing to you. And as you continue cumming, he praises you, switching between 'good girl' and 'that's my good girl', as if you can't get more aroused. He releases his tail around your thigh.
When your high fell down, you sat up and turned around to face him. “..Let me ride you,” You whispered to him breathlessly.
He takes off his tank top but leaves his dog tag on. “M’kay, baby. Whatever you say.”
“With your queue.”
His brows rose in surprise. “What?”
“I want to try putting your queue, erm, inside me or just rubbing it against it.”
“..Sweetheart,” He sighed. “Y’know this is a Na’vi thing,  I dunno if it’ll work the same way with humans, let alone be harmless to ya.”
“..I know but I trust you. I won’t ask again if you say you don’t want to.”
“Fine, we can try it but I’ll be the one who puts it on.”
You smiled at him. “Yes, daddy.” You spread your legs and used your fingers to spread your wet pussy lips, hoping to entice him.
"Who knew you're such a dirty li'l girl." He grabs the end of his braid and holds his queue out, the pink tendrils moving upwards in a continuous motion. You watched him carefully move his queue closer to your wet folds, making you anxious at the sight of it reaching closer to your privates.
As it gets closer, the tips of it touch your outer lips, it does nothing but keep moving as it did before. He brings it up to your clit and this time your body shudders in pleasure at the contact of it. “A-ah!” You moaned. “..M-miles, fuck.”
His ears perked at the tingle he just felt. “You feelin’ good, baby?”
“Yes,” You breathed. “..Put it deeper into me.”
He gave you a silent nod as he brought the tip down to your wet entrance. Within seconds, the soft tendrils latched into your inner walls, instantly making you feel its pulse. The both of you breathe deeply in unison, the sensation of feeling each other’s body for the first time overwhelms you both. You didn’t think it was possible at all but it was. You didn’t need to be an avatar or recom to experience this intimate moment, the ability to feel someone else’s body.
“Oh, my god, Miles...” You close your eyes as you take in this otherworldly sensation.
“Holy shit,” He chuckled in amazement. “Baby, are you feelin' this?”
You nodded. “..Yes, I can feel you.” You touch his large hands as you smile, a brief look of content painted on your face. “I can feel your breathing, your pulse.” A perverted smile surfaced on your face as you felt something more intense and erotic. “And how incredibly hard you are right now.”
“Me too, cupcake.” He chuckled. “I can literally feel yer pussy throbbin’ right now.” He now senses your body's need to be filled.
“You still wanna ride on my dick, huh?” He lays down on his back as his queue stays attached to you. “God, yes.”  You crawl over to him and lift yourself as you take his length into your hands and align it carefully to your entrance, lowering yourself slowly.
With how slick and horny you are, his cock slipped inside you easily and did not interfere with the connection between you and his queue.
“..Christ,” He groaned and it was unlike anything you heard of him. “Ho, baby girl.” He can't believe what he was experiencing at the moment. He can feel himself stretching you and how good it feels to you.
It was a spiritual and intimate experience the two of you were sharing together and all the while you looked so sexy while you’re on top.
“Fuckin’ gorgeous.” He muttered to himself.
The tip of it kisses your cervix and you cry out. “Ah, r-right there, Miles.” He grins at the sight of your expression, with the addition of him feeling you stretched to the hilt. "Look at you, desperate to take my cock again. You want to take my cum again, huh, princess?"
You start to bounce, lifting your hips up and down as your tits move in the same motion. "Yes, yes, daddy!"
"Mnn, and be bred again?"
"F-fuck, yes, please. Cum in me," You cried. "Gimme your cum, please!"
"Mnn, you just always know what to say, babygirl. You take me so well, always so snug around me. It's like you were made to be bred by me."
The praises and dirty words made you shiver in arousal. You bent your body over as you buried your head to his chest, his hands gripped your ass while the other was planted firmly on your small back. Miles groaned as he lifted his hips and thrusted deep inside you, his movements making you cling to him tightly.
"Mmm, yes, baby, just like that. Keep it comin’, mama. Daddy’s gonna fill you up nice and good. Soon you're gonna be so full of cum and when you get pregnant, I'll just keep cummin’ inside ya every night."
And before you were about to say something, Miles felt through his queue you were about to cum soon.
"..Fuck, I'm gonna cum, daddy." You cried to his chest, holding on to it as best as you could while your pussy was getting wrecked. The TV remained on but the sounds of groaning and whimpers and the lewd sounds of skin against skin were louder.
"Come on, babygirl, cum for me." You hear him growl, that's when you know his instincts are kicking in. "Cum for daddy." He smacked your ass.
"A-ah, AH, Miles, please!"  You chanted his name like he was your savior, switching between ‘daddy’ and ‘Miles’ until you lost the ability to speak.
“That’s right. Cum.” He pounds below you hard as you whimper. “Cum on daddy’s dick..”
And before he said anything else, you felt his cock throb through the queue, hinting he was about to explode and the sensation itself made you want to release yourself.
"Shit, baby, I'm cummin’-" He grunts as his thrusts become brutal. "Daddy’s comin’,M fuck-"
For the first time in months, you came at the same time together. The two of you shudder in heavenly bliss, your pussy clamps around him so tightly as hot cum rushed inside you. You’ve never cried so loudly and you’ve never cummed this much, maybe it had to do with the queue.
He gives out a few last thrusts before he stops and stays inside you. The both of you are out of breath, hugging each other as you let the afterglow of sex take over you too.
When your high faded, you sat up and took his softened dick out of you, a thread of cum spilling out of you.
..You’re so getting pregnant after this. You thought to yourself.
You looked down to see the queue still attached to you. A grin surfaced on your face as an idea popped into your mind.
"Hey, Miles." You grabbed the tuft of hair on his queue and flatten it onto the front of your vulva. "..Look at my hairy pussy." You smirked as you looked at him funny.
His ear drooped down and his lips curled into a smug smirk and before you know it he bursted into laughter. You know he's always had a dirty sense of humor and it was one of the reasons why you two connected with each other, with queue or not.
"Nga yawne lu oer." He says to you in Na'vi.
You’re not fluent in Na’vi but you know enough to understand what he said to you, so you said, “Nga yawne lu oer nìteng.” with a smile.

Na'vi!Quaritch x Human!Fem!Reader
(Short Drabble!)
Warnings: NSFW, fingering (fem receiving), Voyeurism, hold the moan, public sex, Miles being a smug bastard. This wasn't proofread or edited.
Colonel Quaritch has never been described as a soft and understanding man. This statement was also applicable to the 9ft tall Na'vi reincarnation, who had set his sights on you some time ago.
Getting used to his quirks and isms took time, and often, you felt as though he didn't quite understand himself either. Both of you were often left guessing.
But not today.
Quaritch was sitting back at a projection table, yellow eyes boredly skimming over a display of terrain while the rest of the Recom team prattled off about rotations and reconnaissance. He was not listening to them, though. Instead, his pointed ears twitched with every breath you gave from his lap.
He liked to humiliate you.
You couldn't tell if it got him off or if he just did it to watch you go red. Being only half his size, you couldn't do much about it. When he forced you to perch in his lap, you had argued and squirmed until his arm wrapped around your body and his large hand sunk under the table and into your slacks.
All your sense left you as those huge blue fingers played and stroked over your covered crease. With your back to his chest, you swore you could hear the soft rattle of a purr escape him. That asshole.
It didn't take much to make you blush, but him fondling you during a meeting had you fighting to keep composure. He knew it, too. Putting an elbow on the table, Miles leaned into his hand, giving the impression he would rather be anywhere else. In truth, he did. He wanted his private quarters with you bouncing on his cock. But work was work, and he could settle on tormenting you.
Your legs open wide under the table as he draws his hand up, then pushes into your underwear. He could hardly fit, and you could feel the strain of the fabric trying to accommodate his pressence. Swallowing noisily, you buck to meet his fingers as they drag down your damp folds. Miles hid a smirk into the heel of his palm. He loved knowing he got you worked up.
There was a prod at your opening, his middle finger seeking entry. You clear your throat, widen your legs for him, and close your eyes as you feel the thick digit slip inside your little hole. Miles eagerly pushed knuckle deep, the tip of his finger bottoming out, making you clench around him and clear your throat again.
A few of the Recoms glance at you, and while your face was bright red, you smile.
"Sorry, tickle in my throat."
Miles chuckled, and the lingering stare from Wainfleet made you certain he knew. Maybe they all did. Supposedly, they all had impeccable hearing and sense of smell. You try to not worry about it, and focus on the massive finger that prodded and pushed inside your cunt.
The sensation was incredible, he reached places in you no human finger - or cock, for that matter - ever could. With a buck of your hips, you attempt to fuck yourself against him. Miles shifted under you, and you realized now you could feel the growing hardness between his legs.
Spurred by your canting, the Colonel began pumping his digit in and out of you, starting off slow. The drag of him against you made your body warm, and your stomach tighten. It was getting difficult to keep focused, especially when his heel pushed against your clit. You were rising fast, and the way your cunt bore down around his finger let Miles know how close you were.
Each pull and press of the Na'vi's thick finger made you quiver, his pad bumping your cervix and causing you to lurch in his lap. You knew the Recoms were pretending not to notice, and the fact they knew at all had you flustered. But that was his plan all along.
Sighing slowly, your small hand squeezes around the forearm stretched down your body as you begin to rock yourself steadily into him. If you had been paying attention, you'd have noticed Mansk and Wainfleet's ears twitching and perking at the subtle sound of your cunt slicking. Miles rumbled in his chest, satisfied that you were coming undone in his lap.
When the pressure became too much and the heat coiled up your vertebrae so suddenly, you saw stars. With every ounce of self-respect left within you, your hands clap over your mouth. The orgasm was strong, body shaking. You shudder and roll your hips as your cunt bears down around his finger. It grips at him in desperate, fluttering motions, as pleasure rattles through your core.
Miles smirks again, pumping the digit a couple more times for good measure before slowly pulling it out and wiping off on your panties. He gives your thigh a 'good job' pat before you fumble to fix your clothes. You could feel the smug aura wafting from him, and grit your teeth.
Revenge was a bitch, and you were certain you'd make him pay.

Previous chapter | Masterpost | Chapter 17
The sound that leaves you when the people part for the small boy running towards you could only be described as heartwrenching, even to your own ears, Spider’s bruised frame sprints forward with only one goal in mind as you fall to your knees in the wet, warm sand. You just manage to open your arms before he’s wrapped around you, his small but strong arms holding onto you for dear life as you press your face into the crook of his neck, sobbing openly. Rocking the both of you slowly, you breathe him in, letting your hand cup the back of his messy head while you press his smaller body to your frame. There’s a small voice in the back of your mind that tells you to ease up, to let his smaller body get space to breathe, but in your desperation, you’re unable to let go of him.
“Son?” Distantly, you recognize the wounded, high-pitched voice of Jake Sully, but it’s not before you lift your head to take a deep breath that you notice that the Toruk Makto has rushed past the Olo’eyktan to hold his own son. The sound of the strong man’s quiet sobs pierces something deep within you and you can only imagine the relief of seeing your child alive when you have believed him to be dead.
He’s whispering thanks and blessings to the Great Mother when Neytiri comes rushing through the crowd, no doubt reacting to her mate’s distressed sounds. It doesn’t take long for her own shrieks of pain and disbelief to come forth as she stumbles on unsteady legs toward her son and mate. With her hand outstretched, Jake Sully takes it, pulling her into the hug he’s refusing to end with their son. Neteyam’s grunt when his mother collides with them is painful, but the reunion goes on, the young man refusing to let go of his parents. Smiling through your tears, you watch as the rest of the children join them, happy cries and grabby hands creating a tight bubble around Neteyam. It’s heartwarming to see the young man be cuddled and loved like this.
Stroking Spider’s head, you close your eyes as you feel his small but fierce heart pounding away against your chest. Your son has stopped crying, his small sniffles sounding every now and then as he clings to you. His cheek is resting against your collarbone, his mask digging in painfully, but you couldn’t care less. Your son was finally here with you, his small body clinging to you as you held him. You can’t imagine the pain and hurt he’s been through the past few weeks, or how scared he must have been. Kissing his messy head, you whisper small thank you’s as you get to your feet, still holding him close.
“You saved him,” Jake Sully mumbles, his sharp eyes piercing into yours from your short distance, reaching a hand out for you to join them.
Slowly, you approach your old Olo’eykatan with Spider in your arms, only to be pulled into the hug when his strong hand wraps around your elbow. His forehead presses firmly against yours as he holds you close, whispers of thanks leaving his lips as he breathes deeply. Neytiri repeats the motion when her mate eventually lets up, her eyes piercing into yours as she thanks you, the motion foreign to you.
“Mo’at was the one who saved him,” You whisper back, hearing Jake Sully’s soft intake of air as his head leaves the tight bubble you’ve all created, “I just found him,”
Neytiri lifts her head too and it’s only then that she sees her mother standing with the Olo’eyktan. Mo’at steps forward when another wounded sound leaves Neytiri and you watch as the older woman crumbles in her mother’s arms when she embraces her daughter. At that moment your heart bleeds for Neytiri and what she’s been through. You can only imagine the pain and sorrow she must have experienced while believing her son dead, only to be able to embrace his beating heart once more. To be able to be comforted by her mother and for the Tsahìk to embrace her the way she now does…
“Y/n had already saved Neteyam by the time they reached the Omatikaya clan, all I could do was help him heal faster” Mo’at hums to her daughter and Neytiri’s head whips around to stare at you again. Holding her mother’s hand, she reaches for yours with the other, pressing your hand to her chest.
“Thank you, sister,” Neytiri’s words are spoken with such vulnerability, with such gratitude that it takes you by surprise.
“It was the least I could do after your family protected my son,” You squeeze her shoulder where she still holds your hand to her chest, smiling warmly up at her.
Neytiri is unable to meet your eyes, her eyes instead focused on the blond mop of hair that is your son in your arms, but you don’t think much of it. It’s been a stressful time for both of you and in all honesty, you’re beyond exhausted. When Neytiri lets go of your hand, you turn back to the Metkayina Olo’eyktan, greeting him properly this time whilst still holding onto Spider, refusing to let your son go.
“I come seeking your help. My companion is hurt and he…-” You start slowly only for the Olo’eyktan to hold up his hand for you to stop.
“Your Tsahìk has already explained your situation,” He starts, only for Jake Sully to step up to him.
“She is Omatikaya, Tonowari. I will take full responsibility if you can offer her companion help,” He declares and for a split second, your heart soars with pride and gratitude for your old Olo’eyktan.
“Toruk Makto,” You say politely, your ears bent close to your skull as you wrap your tail around your thigh, the pose as submissive as you can manage with Spider still in your arms, “You will not approve of who he is,”
And with that, you put Spider down in the sand as you walk over to Hawnu. The demon’s head is resting on the other side of Hawnu’s back, blissfully hidden, and with the new tweng and cloak, he doesn’t immediately stand out unless anyone cared to look at his feet or hands. Taking hold of the demon’s short hair, you take a deep breath before lifting his head up for your Toruk Makto to see.
Immediately, there’s an outcry from the Olo’eyktan and Neytiri, and then from behind, the Metkayina Tsahìk hisses furiously as she comes up to stand beside her mate. Your eyes, however, are only trained on Neytiri as she pulls her blade and comes running towards you - or rather, towards the demon. Flipping Spider onto your back, you step between Neytiri and the demon, hissing ferociously at her as you pull your own blade out to protect your own small family.
“Step aside, sister,” Neytiri sneers, her anger, and fury petrifying as it’s directed at you.
“No,” You try to sound brave, but your voice comes out unsteady and small as it leaves your lips, your fear so obvious to everyone around you.
“He drowned,” Jake Sully says, his face crumbling in a frown as he pulls Neytiri back by her shoulder. “I drowned him,”
“I couldn’t just leave him, Sir,” Spider speaks up from your back and just like that, your fear disappears, replaced by a resolve so strong even the Great Mother couldn’t take it away from you.
“You couldn’t just… -” Jake Sully starts but stops abruptly, pinching the bridge of his nose as he squeezes his eyes shut.
“Lo’ak and I were looking for you when the ship went down and I found him on the bottom of the sea just lying there,” Spider continues, his voice desperate, “He’s my father, Sir,”
Closing your eyes, you let your mind go through every possibility before you make up your mind. Hawnu was close by, the demon already on his back if you needed a quick escape. Opening your eyes again, you stare directly into Jake Sully’s eyes as you sheath your blade.
“You were once a demon from the skies, now; you are Toruk Makto, the leader of our people, a child of Eywa,” You present so forcefully that his ears slick back against his skull while his tail whips behind him. The challenge is clear as day in Jake Sully’s eyes, but he still looked conflicted.
“It’s not up to me to decide anymore, Y/n,” He mumbles as he steps aside.
“Ma Jake, what are you saying?” Neytiri turns to him, her rage almost brimming over as she can’t believe what she’s hearing.
“Olo’eyktan of the Metkayina clans, I come to you seeking help. Will you help me?” You direct your question to the leader, not knowing if you want him to agree or not. You watch as the Olo’eyktan looks down at his own furious mate, at Neytiri’s anger, and then at Jake, his face just as conflicted as your heart.
“I will not leave his side,” Jake Sully offers, making Neytiri cry out in outer outrage at her mate’s words.
“Then we will offer help,” The Olo’eyktan says reluctantly before turning to send some of his men ahead.
Gently, you let Spider down from your back, watching as he steps up to greet Hawnu before moving over to Cupcake, the female ikran greeting him excitedly with small welcoming chirps as she nudges her head against his body. Stepping closer to Hawnu, you take a deep breath as you prepare to haul the demon’s huge mass over your shoulders again, only for Jake Sully to move closer with outstretched arms, intending to help you.
But when you whip around and hiss at him, he steps back, holding his hands up, much in the same manner that the demon does. You’re still not sure what the motion means, but you figure it has something to do with meaning no harm. Although you would have liked to get help with carrying the demon, you don’t trust your old Olo’eyktan not to attempt to kill him again. Not after what he had just admitted to doing.
“She is strong, Jakesully,” Mo’at steps forward, resting her hand on his shoulder, “She will need no help with the demon,”
You don’t understand what the Tsahìk means by that but as the demon’s heavy weight slides over Hawnu’s back to fully rest on you, you couldn’t care less as you try to keep upright. You follow the Olo’eyktan to a marui pod on the outskirts of the village, the sea surrounding all but one side of it. Only one way in, only one way out, you think as you walk on tired legs. Spier holds your tail as he follows closely behind you, not yet ready to let go of you. Behind him, Jake Sully and Neteyam follow you, much to Neytiri’s great displeasure. You have a growing suspicion that this isn’t the Tsahìk’s marui pod at all.
It’s a suspicion that is confirmed when you enter the marui pod. To your surprise, the people the Olo’eyktan sent away are waiting for you inside, their shoulders squared as they stare at the demon on your shoulders. In the middle of the pod, a woven mat and supplies for the Tsahìk are set up, yet, the Tsahìk herself, is missing.
On wobbly legs, you crumble to your knees as you try your best not to drop the demon. Spider is still holding your tail, his grip harder as he refuses to let go when you bend down, trying your best to gently slide the demon off of you. It doesn’t work. It never has. With a hard thud, the demon’s bottom hits the mat before the rest of his body follows, much like an overripe banana fruit falling to the ground. Deep within you, you feel sympathy when his head hits the woven mat hard, his kuru trapped between the two.
Stepping back, you pull Spider’s head to your middle, your son still refusing to let go of your tail. His grip on you tightens when the Metkayina Tsahìk enters the pod, Mo’at closely following behind the two. The Tsahìk sneers at the demon until the Olo’eyktan, her mate, squeezes her shoulder while leveling her with a look that seems to pull her anger back from the surface.
“The demon does not deserve the Great Mother’s healing,” The Tsahìk hisses while scowling up at her mate.
“Ronal…” The Olo’eyktan hums, but his voice only seems to anger her more.
“He took our daughter,” The Tsahìk, Ronal, growls, and the news goes straight through your chest, pushing a wounded whine through your lips as you hold back fresh tears.
The demon’s betrayal seemed never-ending the more you learn about the events of that day. It colors him in a light you’ve only heard whispered before, colors him in stories from a war long since passed. This… this being before you is not the man you had come to know, yet, it undeniably still was.
“The demon has been touched by the Great Mother, Tsahìk,” Mo’at hums gently, using Ronal’s title politely, one Tsahìk to another.
“The Great Mother would not touch the likes of him,” Ronal hisses back, her finger pointing shakily at the demon.
“The Great Mother touched me,” Jake Sully offers softly, making all heads snap toward him. “And as Y/n said, I was once a demon from the skies, just like him,”
“The Toruk Makto is right,” Mo’at continued, “Eywa has spoken. As Tsahìk, it is not up to us to challenge her will,”
Ronal hisses furiously as she clutches her head, the battle so obvious to everyone in the room. Mo’at eventually takes pity on the younger Tsahìk when she steps forward, a gentle hand resting on Ronal’s forearm.
“With your permission,” She looks at Ronal and her mate before continuing, “I can offer him healing,”
Immediately, Ronal’s expression softens, gratitude washing through her body. Grabbing Mo’at’s wrist, she breathes a deep sigh before accepting her mate’s open arms, letting herself be hugged by the Olo’eyktan.
“Thank you,” The Olo’eyktan offers, his smile genuine and soft. “I will make sure that you have everything you need,”
“I will join you to Ronal’s marui to collect what I need before returning,” Mo’at hums, inclining her head minutely in appreciation.
Watching Mo’at disappear with the Tsahìk and Olo’eyktan, you let your breath out before sitting down, crossing your legs before you as you make room for Spider to sit. Jake Sully bends down to sit beside you, Neteyam tightly nestled between his own thighs as he holds his son tightly to his chest.
“How is he?” Jake Sully eventually asks as the silence stretches on.
“The demon will live,” You start, your voice unsteady, “Maybe,”
“What happened when you left?” Your old Olo’eyktan continues, his voice gentle as he stares at you.
Turning your head to actually look at him, noticing how he’s looking at you with genuine worry. His ears have rotated toward you, open and rounded, while his tail slaps lazily behind him, the soft thumping soothing as it hits the woven ground of the marui pod. It reminds you of the shame he had displayed when he had come to you with the news of Spider being taken, and just like that, your disappointment in him returns.
“Why do you care?” You huff back at him as you narrow your eyes, your hand cupping the back of Spider’s head, pressing him closer to your chest.
“Ouch… I guess I deserved that one,” Jake Sully winces, his ears pinning down flat against his skull.
The silence stretches between you while you hold your sons against your bodies, reveling in the way their hearts beat against your chests, in the way their lungs push air through them before gently letting them out. Spider and Neteyam are fast asleep where they’re held against your bigger bodies, your son’s exhausted with being strong and just like that, while looking down at them, the two of you seem to come to the same realization.
Although they were both young adults, they were still children, burdened with fighting the horrors of a war they should have never been involved in, to begin with. Although they were old enough to find mates, to go off on their own and be their own master, they were still too young to have experienced everything that they had. Holding Spider closer, you bend your head back as you feel guilt and sorrow wash through you. They had both been through a lot, had been brave and fearsome for their younger siblings and friends, for their parents. You recognized that it would take time for them to heal, time for them to work through their trauma, and to learn how to be children again before they would be able to confidently stand on their own two legs as adults.
“I went to Hell’s Gate, only to find it deserted, so I found the gates of Bridgehead City and demanded to see Colonel Miles Quaritch,” You eventually offer, a peace offering to a man who’s treated your people well.
“You did what?” Jake Sully’s head snaps to the side to stare at you so fast, you can almost hear the pain in his neck.
“They brought me to one of their bright, cold rooms with the see-through metal doors. I don’t know how long it took, but eventually, they brought Spider to me, unharmed. A deal was made to teach the recom unit the Na’vi way, to teach them to accept Eywa in their hearts and souls,” You continue quietly, noting how Jake Sully hangs on every word you say.
“And they did,” You followed, turning your head to look back at the Toruk Makto, “They learned to accept Eywa in their hearts and in their souls.”
The silence stretches once more as you let the words sink in. Jake Sully remains silent, his eyebrows furrowed in deep thought as his mind mulls over what you have just said. To your surprise, he lets you collect yourself, lets you continue with your story without uttering a single word.
“They learned to be Na’vi, each one getting to find themselves as if invisible bonds that had held them back fell away. Slowly, they started to appreciate what the Great Mother has created, each one finding their way, discovering what they were good at, and starting to contribute to the unit,” You continue, your voice growing fond as a ghost of a smile crosses your lips. It’s clear to everyone in the marui that you cared deeply for them.
“I don’t know what happened,” You eventually whisper, your heart breaking once more as you avert your eyes, closing them as you bend your head, resting your lips against Spider’s head, breathing him in to calm yourself.
“I’m sorry I allowed them to take Spider in the first place,” Jake Sully offers, his voice so soft you almost think you imagined it, “You have a strong heart Y/n, a strong spirit. It’s no wonder Hawnu chose you all those years ago.”
Mo’at walks in with supplies in her arms then, the Olo’eyktan follows closely behind her with even more stuff in his arms. Your Tsahìk directs the younger Olo’eyktan to - gently - put the supplies down when his first attempt earns him a disapproving tut from her. Mo’at looks over at your sleeping sons before guiding the Olo’eyktan to sit beside Jake Sully before she starts arranging the supplies the way she wants them. To your surprise, the big man does as he’s told with a respectful nod of his head.
“She always this firm?” The Olo’eyktan whispers once he’s crossed his feet beside Jake Sully.
“You should have seen her when I mated Neytiri,” Jake Sully whispers back, a fond grin on his face.
“I can hear you…” Mo’at hums unamused as she raises her eye at the two.
The boyish grins on the two men’s faces have you shaking your head. Seeing this freer side of the Toruk Makto makes something inside of you shift. You realize that he was cast into the role of Olo’eyktan after Tsu’tey’s death in the battle for the Vitraya Ramunong, a role he was never meant to have, yet, one he did his best to fulfill. Being from the stars, from this planet Earth, Jake Sully had done well by your people as a leader, had given everything to protect and defend them.
Watching as Mo’at mixed herbs, pastes, and salves, preparing leaves and cleaning bowls, you let your mind go pleasantly blank for the first time in what felt like forever. The sea beyond the marui pod washes up against the roots, creating a comforting sound, yet, you keep your eyes closed as you hold your sleeping son close. Mo’at distantly hums about bruised bones and ribs, huffing to herself about how such a big man could be this fragile. After a while, the Olo’eyktan gets up to his feet to resume his duties as leader, promising to bring food after the community meal is finished.
By the time you open your eyes again, Mo’at has finished up, the demon draped in a blanket with his wounds and bruised bones dressed. Jake Sully is staring at him, his face conflicted as his mind races silently while he holds onto a still-sleeping Neteyam, the young man so obviously beyond exhausted. Looking down at Spider, the most beautiful brown eyes you have ever seen in your life stares back at you through the mask.
“I see you,” You whisper gently as you cup your son’s face, smiling down at him.
“I see you, mom,” Spider replies, a soft smile of his own as he’s looking up at you.
“Are you well?” The question makes him frown for a moment before he nods his head.
“I’m tired,” He responds before frowning, “Will he be alright?”
“Your father will be just fine,” You smile reassuringly back at him, noting how his face opens with delight when you acknowledge the demon as his father.
“I don’t know what happened, mom,” Spider whispers, his small, strong hands fiddling with your braid, “One moment he was fine and then he just… snapped?”
“It’s alright, Spider. His actions are not your fault,” You comfort him, trying your best to make him understand that he had no part in his father’s doings.
“When he took me, he went after more villages and when no one said anything, he sent the sky people out to hunt the tulkuns, mom,” Spider’s voice is so small it makes your heart break for him.
“Did he kill any of them?” You dread the answer, but you need to know.
“No,” Jake Sully replies instead, “They wounded Ronal’s spirit sister, forcing her and her young calf to the surface, leaving them for me to find. The mother and calf are healing well,”
Closing your eyes, you’re unable to keep back the wounded sound that leaves you. It feels as if your strength is leaving your body as your heart mourns for the man you had come to know. Anger and betrayal filled its place, poisoning what was left of the hope you still held onto.
“He killed the Olo’eyktan’s ilu before burning the Ta'unui village down, but he stopped the sky people from doing what they usually do with the tulkun,” Spider offers and although it should have been a small relief to know that he had ordered the sky people to stop the hunt, it wasn’t.
“He got my attention, which was what he wanted,” Jake Sully huffs humorlessly, “He went after another tulkun later on, and while our kids tried to save it, he managed to take three of them,”
“Lo’ak, Tuk and Tsireya, Ronal and Tonowari’s daughter,” Sider mumbles shamefully, his voice so small.
“It wasn’t your fault, bro,” Neteyam adds sleepily, his voice rough from just having awoken.
“I could have done something, I should have done more…” Spider counters and it makes Neteyam huff humorlessly, much like his father.
“Like what, gotten yourself killed?” The deadpan expression Neteyam sends him makes your son growl. Had he been born with ears and a tail, they would be slicked back and thrashing.
“When Payakan, Lo’ak’s tulkun, crashed the ship, me and Lo’ak went looking for Spider. That guy, Prager, and the bald one came after us with their guns, but the bald one didn’t really shoot at us, his aim was horrible,” Neteyam chuckles, as he grins.
“Wainfleet is a decorated marksman, Neteyam,” Jake Sully offers, but you don’t understand what it means. “If he had wanted you dead, you would have been dead with the first bullet he fired,”
The truth of the words brings a silence over the marui pod as the reality of what could have happened sinks in. Closing your eyes, you hold Spider’s head close to you in an attempt at comforting yourself while you let yourself hope that Lyle had missed with the intent of not hurting the children. At best, it was a hope to comfort yourself as the man was no more.
“What you did was stupid,” Jake Sully grounds out, his voice angry before he sighs and presses Neteyam’s head to his chest again, “But I have never been more proud to call myself your father,”
“That goes for you too, Lo’ak,” The Toruk Makto raises his voice before turning his head to look toward the seaside opening of the marui pod. “Come on out, son,”
Lo’ak’s head pokes out from the brim of the pod, his ears flat against his head as he slowly, but surely steps out from where he had been hiding. The boy’s tail is wrapped tightly against his thigh as he’s unable to lift his head or meet his father’s eyes.
“Are you not angry, Sir?” Lo’ak all but whispers, his ears rotating toward his father before snapping back again.
“Oh, I’m furious,” Jake Sully chuckles as a grin spreads across his face, “And the two of you will be grounded for life, but I have never been more proud in my life,”
Reaching out a hand for his youngest son, Jake Sully waits for his words to sink in and when they do, Lo’ak’s head snaps up with confusion as he stares at his father. Reluctantly, he steps forward, one foot at a time until he’s within his father’s reach. He’s helpless against the hand that grabs his waist and before he knows it, he’s pulled down into his father’s lap.
Smiling at the display before you, you watch as Jake Sully breathes in the scent of his boys as he holds them close, but most of all, you smile at the way Lo’ak curls up against his older brother, his smaller hands holding onto him for dear life. You can’t imagine how he must have felt when he thought he had lost his brother, but by the way silent tears fall from his clenched shut eyes, the loss had been painful in a way he has been unable to express. Neteyam wraps him up as well as he’s able to, holding onto his brother as they rest against their father’s chest. You lose time of how long you sit there, but when Mo’at returns to the marui pod, Neytiri follows behind.
“Ma Jake, you must come home,” She demands, her eyes not leaving the demon on the ground.
“Neytiri, I can’t do that. I promised I wouldn’t leave Quaritch’s side,” Jake Sully sighs, his ears flat against his skull as his arms tighten minutely around his sons.
“The demon should die for what he has done,” Neytiri hisses, uncrossing her arms as she points at him.
It brings an instantly furious growl from your lips as you jump to your feet to stand between them, blocking Neytiri’s path. The Toruk Makto doesn’t get up from the floor, but his deep sigh is enough to bring Neytiri’s focus back on him.
“Neytiri, Eywa has spoken and I have given my word to Tonowari, I will not break it,” He speaks with a patience you do not feel, “My word is all I have left, Neytiri,”
Jake Sully’s vulnerability seems to touch something deep within her as Neytiri growls and whines before clutching her head in frustration, her ears pinning back helplessly. Had you been able to move from your current place, you would have offered the older woman comfort, but as you are, you stand frozen before the demon with your son on your hips, tucked away from Neytiri. In the end, Neytiri lowers her arms as she helplessly looks at you, her eyes wide and filled with fear, and just like that, you can’t blame her.
“Thank you, sister,” Your voice is soft as you speak, your hand reaching out to hold her when she tightly grasps it.
Neytiri is unable to say anything, but her hand clutches yours before the other one comes up to cover your clasped hands. Her eyes have softened when she looks down at you. She looks lost and you understand that feeling. From one mother to another, you share in her desperation to keep your kid safe, to ensure that they have the best paths laid before them. Although he Great Mother had spoken, you did still not know if saving the demon would be the right one for Spider, for the whole of Pandora, but when you close your eyes at night, it is his touch that you feel behind you and just before you open them again, it is his sharp eyes that you see, leaning in to share his love with you.
Releasing your hand, Neytiri walks over to sit beside her mate and sons, her arms wrapping around both Neteyam and Lo’ak as she breathes him in, reveling in his smell. Jake Sully smiles gently before looking behind you where Mo’at works unbothered by her daughter's temper tantrum, seemingly used to it. She has pulled the blanket down from the demon’s chest, revealing the smattering of leaves protecting the pastes and salves beneath. You watch as his chest rises and falls in deep rest, the man far away from his present predicament.
“What happened next,” Jake Sully hums into the silence, his eyes sharp as he stares at nothing in particular, but his voice leaves little doubt about where he’s going with this.
“Spider and I went to look for you, diving around the ship in hopes to find you. We split up and then… Well, I found you,” Lo’ak started, refusing to lift his head from Neteyam’s shoulder.
“And then I found him,” Spider continues, his eyes filling with tears as he clutches harder onto your braid, “At first I left him. He’s caused so much pain, so much suffering and I just… Everyone would be so much better without him, but mom, he’s my father,”
Spider’s tears are falling, fat and clear, as he squeezes his eyes shut, afraid to see your reaction. Shuffling him over to your front, you wrap both arms around him as he sobs. Behind your back, his small hands find your braid again as he clutches onto it tightly, his small legs locking at the small of your back. Shushing him, you cup the back of his head while comforting him, feeling your heart clench painfully at the fact that there is nothing you can do to help him except to just be there for him. Eventually, he lifts his head from your shoulder as he looks up at you, tears hanging from his big brown eyes and you can find no fault in his reasoning.
“I know, I know,” You smile down at him, bending to rest your forehead on his through the mask on his face, “It’s alright,”
When you lift your head from his, even Jake Sully seems like he reluctantly agrees with your son’s compassion. Neytiri’s still scowling, but her features don’t look as hard as they previously had, the older woman obviously struggling to find fault in your son’s reasoning, despite the fact that his father is such a man.
“I got him out of the wreck and up to the surface, pulling him with me to the nearest rock, but by then he was already waking up. He asked me to come with him, mom, but I couldn’t go with him,” Spider continues, his voice growing sadder with each word, “He looked so sad when I left him, mom,”
The confession breaks you, the sudden intake of air into your lungs threatening to choke you. He had asked Spider to come with him, had even looked sad when Spider refused, leaving him behind for Cupcake to deal with. Could there still be something within him that longed for the life he had turned his back on? Turning your head, you stare at the demon, noting how carefree he looks in his sleep. It’s not the peaceful rest he had worn before, but like this, he looks as if there’s still hope for change in him.
“I’ll find a way, Spider,” You whisper into his hair, closing your eyes as you breathe him in to calm yourself, “I swear, I will find a way,”
The promise seemed to calm your son’s nerves as the death grip he had on your kuru eased. You have a need to bounce him in your arms like you did when he was a baby, but you bite your cheek to refrain from doing so, reminding yourself that he was on the cusp of adulthood. Still, the need resided deep within you. Holding him close like this would have to be enough, however. Turning around, you’re surprised to see the Olo’eyktan in the opening, his big frame resting against the marui pod while he waits.
“Olo’eyktan,” You mutter, clumsily greeting him.
“There is no need for this,” His voice rumbles as he steps inside, only to come to a stop before you. “It takes a strong heart and a mighty spirit to stand up to your father like that, little warrior,”
You watch as Jake Sully gets to his feet, his arms still clutching onto both of his sons as he grunts, refusing to put them down, much the same way you are. Behind the strength he projects, you realize that he’s just as afraid of waking up to find that this had just been a dream. Neteyam and Lo’ak look huge in his arms, dwarfing their father where they’re clutching onto him with their long legs. Still, Jake Sully greets the Olo’eyktan with a nod, as if any of this was normal.
“Tonowari,” Jake Sully offers, his sons quickly mumbling a formal greeting as their father spreads his legs to even out their weight.
“You look tired, my friend. Why don’t you take your family home to rest?” The Olo’eyktan, Tonwari, hums, a gentle smile on his face.
“Can’t do that, I promised I wouldn’t leave Quaritch’s side,” Jake Sully grunts back, the weight of his sons obviously heavy in his tired arms.
“The Tsahìk has informed me that the demon will not wake from his sleep any time soon, and although I admire the loyalty to your promise, I would feel better if you took your family home,” Tonowari continues, his big hands cupping both Neteyam and Lo’ak’s heads as his thumb gently caresses them while he waits for the Toruk Makto to decide, “I will have warriors watching the pod,”
That seems to do it. Jake Sully sighs heavily as he bends his head for a short moment before looking up at Tonowari, his eyes brimming with emotions as his smile stretches unevenly.
“Thank you, my friend,” He breathes with relief as Neytiri comes up behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder to show her support.
“Tsireya and Ronal have left food in your kelku. Do me a favor and don’t let me see you tomorrow,” Tonowari grins as Jake Sully chuckles with tears in his eyes, the Toruk Mako struggling to keep his emotions at bay.
“Thank you,” Neytiri hums as Jake Sully turns to leave.
“Y/n…” He calls to you, but nothing follows.
No words are needed for what your old Olo’eyktan is trying to say. It’s written so clearly in the way his eyes glow while he looks at you, in the way his arms no doubt burn under the weight of his sons. It’s in his voice, in his breath, and in his presence. And even though she won’t say it, even though she doesn’t agree with saving the demon, it's in Neytiri’s smile, as she looks at you, from the entrance.
“I will place warriors to stand guard on the outside, but your Tsahìk tells me that your companion will not wake any time soon,” Tonowari relays the message to you too, even though you had just heard it.
“There is a sleeping draft in the food I have given him,” Mo’at hums as she finishes redressing the demon’s wounds.
The older woman has been suspiciously quiet since arriving in the village, her eyes observing where her mouth does not. You figure that she knows more than she’s letting on, more than she’s ready to relay - or, perhaps, more than you are ready to know. Taking a deep breath, you nod your head in understanding.
“Tomorrow, I will teach you how to dress his wounds,” It’s spoken with such finality that you take a moment to understand what she’s saying.
You hadn’t expected Mo’at to handle the demon for you, but a small part of you had hoped that you could steer clear of the task. Especially after the whole cave incident. Still, you understood that he was your responsibility and that his healing ultimately would be up to you. Getting a better hold on Spider, you turn back to the big leader in front of you.
“There is food in that basket,” He hums, presenting a huge basket by the entrance that you hadn’t noticed before now. “I will come by tomorrow morning to help you settle in, but nesting materials were brought in earlier. This will be your kelku for as long as you stay here, so make yourselves comfortable,”
“Thank you, Olo’eyktan,” You nod your head, grateful that you were taken care of like this.
“Your son has already settled into the village, although new to the sea. He will be safe even without your eyes on him,” Tonowari smiles gently down at you as he reaches a hand out to grab Spider’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I will see you tomorrow,” Mo’at hums as she passes you, effectively leaving you behind.
With your Tsahìk’s exit, Tonowari leaves the marui pod, your new kelku, while the warriors who had been standing guard on the inside followed their Olo’eyktan. The flap to the kelku is closed behind the last warrior and just like that, you were left alone with your son and his father. Breathing a sigh of relief and dread, you look down at your son, finding his beautiful brown eyes already looking up at you. You didn’t know how to settle the unease you felt deep within you, so when Spider unlocked his legs around your waist, started building your nest to keep you occupied.
By the time the nest was finished and your heads hit the soft materials, your worries had numbed your mind enough for you to feel lifeless. Sleep, luckily, greeted you fairly quickly. Your exhaustion from the past few weeks catching up with you. Pulling Spider closer, you fell into a sleep so deep not even the demon could pull you out of it. Tomorrow would bring new sets of worries, new challenges you weren’t ready to tackle yet, but for now, you let your body relax, knowing that your son was safe where he slept in your arms.

You could lay there forever, you think. Tightly pressed into your mate’s side, bonded. Body aching from love making. But such bliss cannot last, not while you’re still a prisoner.
Quaritch feels your unease through the bond. He knows you’re right. He looks to the holo-clock on his bedside. It’s the early hours of the morning, still have a few hours before sunrise. He starts rubbing slow soothing patterns on your back. You hum softly.
He thinks about what’s going to happen to you in the morning. The General said she wanted you ready in a few days, get you back in that machine. He has no doubt in his mind that she’d be willing to push you to the brink of death again. He’s grateful the machine broke when it did. He swears he heard Her voice when it did. Did She intervene? If so, he resolves to thank Her properly when he can.
First and foremost; he needs a plan to get you the fuck outta here. Now with his memories fully back in place, any allegiance he once had to this place, to the RDA, has gone straight out the window. He spent a lot of his afterlife in quiet contemplation. It was a painful thing, to come face to face with one’s own past. To truly delve into the things he did. The guilt, regret and sorrow was almost overwhelming. But he got through it. And after all the years he spent seeing you, then those months spent together intimately, you were the only thing he cared about now. Well, besides his son, but he cared for the boy in a different way.
Sweet Spider. He wondered if the kid would ever forgive him. No doubt everything that has happened to you will come to light. He wonders how much you’ll actually tell him. You feel his uncertainty through the bond.
“Miles?”
He sits up suddenly, a renewed sense of determination floods your senses coming straight from him.
“I gotta get you the fuck outta here.” You stare wide-eyed at him, but smile when you see the sternness of his expression as he looks to you.
“Wait here.” He orders, unlinking your queues. He rushes to dress himself in his black tank top and camo pants. He comes back to the bed and kisses you hard; leaving you breathless.
“I’ll be back.”
---
And so you wait.
Quietly you sit in that bed, in the dark. You decide it’d be best if you got dressed yourself. You rummage through his clothes till you find a large black t-shirt you like the smell of; his scent is heavily woven through the fabric. The shirt sits just above your hips; no doubt it would look comically big were it not for your proportions. Least it is somewhat loose. You’re thankful then, that his pants sit comfortably on you thanks to your wide hips.
You sit yourself back on the bed once satisfied with your attire. You’re anxious now, nervously playing with your loose hair. How were the two of you going to pull this off? Even if it was the early hours of morning, surely not everyone in the base was asleep? And what of Spider? Could the 3 of you really escape so easily?
You’re not sure how much time passes when the door suddenly opens, startling you. You’re taken aback by the sight before you.
In walks Quaritch, flanked by 3 other recoms, and pushing through their legs, is your beloved brother.
You gasp.
It feels far too long since you saw him.
“SPIDER!!!” You yell, unintentionally, but the joy and relief of seeing him alive and unharmed overwhelms you. Quaritch luckily had closed the door before your outburst.
“[Y/N]!!! You’re okay!” He yells and runs to you. You drop to you knees and grab him in your arms. He wraps his arms around your neck and hugs you tightly. You feel as though you could weep.
He pulls back, grabbing your face in his little lands, turning you side to side. His face contorted with worry. He’s inspecting you, as if to make sure you are real, are unharmed.
“What did they do to you? Did these assholes hurt you? Did…he hurt you?” You see Quaritch flinch in your peripheral. Of course. Spider doesn’t know he has all his memories back. And with that, he is fluent in Na’vi; something you spent months teaching him when the two of you weren’t in the throes of passion.
You place a kiss on Spider’s forehead.
“I’m okay now. I’ll explain everything once we’re safe and out of here. Unless…?” You trail off as you look to the others in the room. Two men and one woman.
“[Y/N], this is Lyle, Mansk, and ZDog.” He points to each one of them as he introduces them.
You greet them with the customary hand gesture. They do not reciprocate, and you do not begrudge them. They instead greet you in the human way, holding up a hand with a “hi” or a “hey”.
“Sooo…You’re the reason Colonel here’s about to go AWOL?” The bald one, Lyle, comments with a smirk.
“Wainfleet…” Quaritch growls out a warning. Lyle holds his hands up in defence.
“Hey I don’t mean nothing by it!”
ZDog and Mansk snicker at the two, you wonder if this is sort of exchange is an often occurrence. Quaritch sighs in annoyance, but he sees the slight worry in your eyes.
“You don’t gotta worry about these 3, darling. Their loyalty is to me, not the RDA. Ain’t that right ladies?”
“HOORAH!” The three of them yell with wide smiles. You breathe a sigh of relieve, hand on your heart. You get to your feet, keeping a firm hold of Spider’s hand in yours. You sure as shit weren’t letting him go again.
“So…What is the plan? Surely they wouldn’t let us just, walk out?” You ask.
“Actually…That’s precisely the plan.” You’re taken aback by this. That wasn’t really so much of a plan, as it was a complete gamble.
“I can see the gears turning in that pretty little head of yours, lemme explain.” You hear the quiet giggles of the 3 recoms, and see Lyle playfully jab his elbow into Quaritch’s side. Your mate scoffs and scowls at him, but doesn’t retaliate. He clears his throat and continues.
“I’ve left a message for the general when she eventually wakes up explaining our absence. Night Training we’ll call it. See, Spider here’s been teaching us some of your Na’vi way during the day. But your forest ain’t entirely asleep at night right? So I figured, we should be taught how to survive its dangers at night, should we ever find ourselves in such a situation. Said we’d be back by sunrise. ‘Course we ain’t plannin’ on returning. But by the time they catch on, it’d be far too late, and we’d be long gone.”
By Eywa this was such a gamble. An incredible risk. And what of transport? You’ve seen the base before, from the safety of the skies. Its size was nothing to scoff at.
“And what of transport? Are we to take one of the flying machines?” Quaritch smirks at your question.
“I got a much better idea.”
---
Dressed in full gear, the 5 recoms lead you and Spider through the base. It is far emptier than you would have expected, barely any humans awake at this hour. What few scientists you see look far too sleep deprived to even pay you any mind. You pass the room housing that awful machine and visibly recoil.
You feel Spider squeeze your hand tight, your nerves calming slightly. Your hands had been cuffed at your front, with Spider pulling you along. They had to keep up appearances, and you understood. Least the orange restraints weren’t secured too tightly like the first time.
When you pass a window you look into the room and see the machine’s interior exposed, a few humans fiddling with the contents.
‘Good that it’s fucking broken. Eywa curse that awful machine.’ You think bitterly.
---
When the cool night air first hits your face, you all but whimper. Quaritch turns to you and catches you with one hand under your arm as your knees buckle. Although there is a big smile on your face, eyes closed in bliss as you breath deep, he can’t stop the guilt that hits him. You’ve been without fresh air for so long, living off of their masks and gas canisters. Seems as though there was still more he needed to atone for with you.
You stand up straight and take one final deep breath before you look to him.
“I’m okay…I’m okay, promise.” You reassure him. He nods, and the group is on the move once more. He’s nervous, you can tell. There is a tension in his shoulders when he walks. You feel it radiating from the two at your side, and ZDog at your rear. But once again, you aren’t met with any resistance as they lead you to an open area off to the side.
You can’t help the shocked gasp when you see them.
Ikran! And four of them! Beautiful mountain ikran. Is this what they were up to when they said Spider was teaching them? You’re almost giddy with excitement. The prospect of escape growing with each passing moment. You push hard on the underlying feeling of resentment that curls deep within you; knowing that they all were enjoying with gifts of the Great Mother while you suffered deep within their base. You have to remind yourself your beloved wasn’t truly himself. You haven’t completely forgiven him; such things would take time. But getting you and Spider out of here was a nice start.
You half expected one of the human security personnel to question where you were all going at such a time, but once again, those that were patrolling, and there wasn’t a lot of them in the first place, paid you all no mind. Perhaps Quaritch and his team answered only then, to that woman; the Admiral. You shiver at the memory of her cold stare. Never had you been confronted by such indifference.
“Alright, [Y/N] with me. Spider, with Lyle.” You nod and he brings you closer to his ikran; a beautiful dark blue female with golden accents on her wings. He smiles proudly at you as he pets her neck. “This here is Cupcake.”
“Cupcake?”
“Cuz it was just so sweet of her to try and kill me,” he again smirks at you, and that raises more questions than it answers. But no matter, you’ll ask him to explain properly another time. He bond with Cupcake first, calming her and letting her understand just who you were to him. He helps you first up onto the saddle, you shuffle forward as he gets up and secures himself behind you. You grip the front of the saddle tightly. He pulls you back into his front, holding you tight with one arm around your waist. His other hand holds firm onto the reins beside your hands. With a kiss to the side of your temple, he commands his ikran to take flight.
And with that, the six of you take to the skies, uninhibited, and unbound, toward the forest.
---
Once you’re in the air and a bit away from the base, Quaritch undoes the bindings on your wrists, letting the cuffs fall to the forest. You immediately lift both hands into the air, giggling at the feeling of wind brush over your skin and through your hair.
You fly for a while, you think about 30 minutes from the base, when Quaritch calls for his squad to land in a nearby clearing. You’re impressed by his graceful landing. He hops off first, then holds a hand out to help you down, which you accept graciously.
As soon as your feet touch the ground, you hear the cry of an ikran coming in to land, and it is all to familiar. The recoms immediately have their guns drawn and pointed at the creature as it lands a few meters away. It is screaming, calls you recognise as threats. The other ikran clack their jaws together, not entirely rattled by the display. But you don’t care about that. You sprint towards him, and scream at the top of your lungs.
“PASKALIN!!!”
Quaritch calls for you, worried of course, but orders his team to stand down. The ikran bounds closer to meet you half way, its threatening yells exchanged for high pitched bellows. It places its head on your shoulder, tilting its head to bump yours, chuffing all the while.
“My sweet boy! I’m so happy you’re okay!” You gently rub under his chin and along his neck. Thank Eywa he is unharmed. Poor thing must have been waiting just outside the base all this time for you, then must have followed the moment he caught your scent leaving.
You guide him back to the group, smiling brighter than before.
“Everyone, this is Paskalin; my ikran.” You introduce him, and Spider bounds close without a second thought. Paskalin bends over to let the boy pet him.
“I thought I recognised you! Good choice not approaching this lot though.” He says to the ikran, and you give Spider a puzzled look. He notices your confusion.
“Saw him a few times when we went flying. Thought he looked familiar. Thought maybe he was following us ‘cuz one of them bonded with his mate or something.” He offers as an explanation. You feel a small twinge in your heart at the thought of your poor boy trying desperately to find you. He must have either recognised Spider, or perhaps even more saddening, your smell may have lingered on Quaritch. No matter. He is with you now.
You turn to the others, noticing then that they are in the process of removing all their gear. No vests. No comms. No guns. Leaving only their clothes. So they were really doing this. They were really going to follow you, Quaritch and Spider. Give up their lives with the RDA and embrace whatever Eywa would throw at them. They all start digging holes to bury their equipment.
“Hey…[Y/N]?” Spider pulls your attention. When you turn to look at him, you see his expression is one of contemplation, perhaps even confusion. There is a slight scowl to his brow.
“What’s wrong, Spider?”
He takes a moment to answer you, as if trying to think of how to broach the topic with you.
“Are…Did you and da—…Quaritch—did the two of you…” ‘Oh sweet Mother, he knows.’ Your ears pin back at the realisation of what he’s trying to ask you. He takes one big breath to calm himself.
“It’s just…I noticed the way he was holding you when we were flying, and the way he keeps looking at you too. It’s just how Jake looks at Neytiri.”
You press your lips together in a fine line. You’re not sure how to feel. Shame? Pride? Love? All of it washes over you. You have loved Quaritch before you even knew he was Spider’s father. That young silly crush of yours. And even when you learnt the truth, of him and his crimes, that did not deter you. And even when he seemingly vanished into thin air, your love for him did not waver.
“It is as it seems…We are mated.” Spider’s eyes widen with your confession. He is shocked. He then makes a face and sound of disgust.
“Does that make you my step-mom now?” the lilt of his voice is laced with teasing tones. You laugh suddenly, and playfully push him. He does the same.
“No way! You’re my brother first! But you have to admit—I’ve definitely been mothering you all since all of you could walk,” you are of course referring to all your younger siblings.
“Pssh, whatever!” he pulls your tail and laughs at your shocked expression. You hiss playfully and he hisses back, running when you start chasing him.
Quaritch watches the two of you giggle like a bunch of children, chasing each other and carrying on. He smiles to himself at the sight. A delicate warmth spreads from his chest and envelops him. He feels grateful to have the two of you in his life.
‘You watchin’ Paz? I’m gonna take good care of that boy. Do right by him, just like I promised. And I won’t be alone neither.’
---
Once everyone is finished burying the last of their gear, you all gather around one another.
“Ok sir, what’s the plan? Where we goin’?” Lyle asks Quaritch.
“Well, that depends on dear [Y/N].” He turns to you, “where we goin’ sweetheart? You know this forest better than any of us.”
You contemplate for a moment. Your first thought is to go back to High Camp. You miss your family something fierce, and it is the safest place you can think of right now. But you are afraid. What if the RDA had a way to track your movements? If they did, you’d be leading them straight to your clan, your family. Thus putting everyone in danger. Quaritch sees the worry adorning your face. He cups the side of your face, pulling you from your thoughts.
“You don’t gotta worry, sweetness. They won’t be able to track us. We ain’t takin’ a damn thing with us they can track. No guns. No coms. Nothing. Even took off the gear they made for the banshees,” he gestures behind him and look to see all their ikrans are bare back now.
You look back to him, and stare up into his golden eyes. They shine so beautifully in the moonlight. You become lost then, as you intently study the specs of light framing his face; committing each one to memory. Gently he rubs his thumb across your cheek, the gently motion soothing you. The two of you become lost in each other’s gaze, to the point of forgetting you weren’t alone.
“Soooo…where’re we going?” Spider speaks, again a hint of teasing in his voice, and the spell is broken. Quaritch seems unbothered though, seemingly not embarrassed to show you affection in front of others; let alone his son and squad.
“Well, darlin’?” you smiles oh so sweetly down at you, and you melt all over again.
“We go home.”
---
When you had said home though, you meant instead, the Tree of Souls. Although you trusted Quaritch with your very life, now that he remembered who he was, you still had reservations about the other 3. You do remember his squad being sizably bigger than this, and wondered where the rest of his team was. Would they follow you all? Did they themselves have ikran? But before taking flight he explained; this really was all that was left.
When he had first captured you and Spider, he lost a few to your family. Then after your capture, the attacks from Sully had increased tenfold. It was during these attacks that he began losing teammates, and slowly, he was left only with his 3 most loyal and trusted.
The attacks had become more frequent, ruthless, and bloodthirsty. And each time, a message was left in blood ‘GIVE HER BACK’. You cried openly at that. Your family had been fighting all this time to get you back. You felt a little saddened that it perhaps didn’t say ‘them’, to include Spider, but you didn’t fault your father. You couldn’t even fathom how he and mother must be feeling. Knowing where you were, but not be able to reach you. To them, you were caught in the arms of their greatest enemy. And that remained true, though in a completely different context now.
‘Oh great Eywa, how am I even going to explain this to them?’ A renewed sense of worry takes over you.
“[Y/N], you okay?” Spider asks you. He’s in front of you, riding with you on your ikran. You nod and force a smile. Everything will be fine. It had to be.
---
You laugh cry when you see the Tree of Souls. There was a time down in that prison where you truly believed you would die; locked away from all that you loved and held dear.
When you come in for a landing, it is barely sunrise. The few people that are there making early morning prayers to Eywa hastily move out the way. The sight of unfamiliar ikrans causing the nearby warriors to draw their bows on you all.
But then they see you and Spider.
“[Y/N]…? Is that you??” One of them calls out, he moves his bow to instead aim at one of the unfamiliar Na’vi.
“Ka'ani!” You smile big and wide at the warrior; a friend of the family, one of the people who had completed their iknimaya alongside your father.
“Who are these Dreamwalkers?”
“Peace, Ka’ni. They helped me escaped.” You move to stand in front his line of fire. A tense moment follows. He studies their faces, their body language. Alert but non-threatening. He verbally signals the surrounding warriors and they all lower their weapons. You breathe a sigh of relief and run toward the hunter, greeting him traditionally. He returns the gesture.
“You’re family has been rife with worry. They will be relieved to know you are unharmed.” He says and puts a hand to your shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze.
“[Y/N]…?” You look up toward the tree and see your Grandmother making her way from the trunk and down its roots. You don’t even yell, just run at her, tears streaming down your face. You try to say the greeting, but all that comes out is a warbled mess of a cry. She holds you tight in arms, swaying back on forth, giving thanks to Eywa over and over again for your safe return.
“[Y/N]!!! SPIDER!!!” You look behind Mo’at and see Kiri racing toward you. She must have been up early with Mo’at for Tsahik training.
“KIRIIIII!!!” She all but tackles you and Mo’at, the older woman letting out a ‘Oof’ as she braced herself from the impact. Spider comes bounding up and Kiri grabs him and pulls him onto the fold.
Kiri moves from you, all smiles and teary eyed.
“I’m so glad you’re safe sister. Did those guys bring you here?” She looks behind you to the group standing awkwardly with the ikrans. Her expression falls almost immediately, blood running cold. Recognition adorns her face. She looks up at you, then back to them, a quickness to her breath.
“That’s…that’s…” she can’t get the words out.
“There’s…a lot to explain, Kiri. Can…can you get mom and dad? I… I don’t want to bring them to High Camp. Not just yet.” You turn to gaze at the others, your eyes fix onto Quaritch as he meets yours. He gives you the faintest of smiles, and you smile back. He breaks eye contact to address the others. They are too far for you to hear what they are saying; drowned out by the whispers of your clanmates in the vicinity.
Kiri is staring at you. Shock and fear all over her face. She doesn’t catch to whom you smile.
“[Y/N]…don’t tell me…”
You turn to her again, and smile sadly. You know full well that this revelation will disappoint your parents. Kiri doesn’t say anything else; your expression was answer enough. She rushes down to her ikran, and takes off for High Camp.
You watch her go with a heavy heart, anxiety building up all over again.
You hear Mo’at behind you, praying to Eywa for guidance, and to keep you safe.
---
When you see the familiar ikrans of your parents and siblings land, you waste no time and rush to meet them. They even brought little Tuk.
“[Y/N]!” Your mother is the first on you, hugging you tightly to her, holding your face in her hands, checking all over you, making sure you are unharmed. All the while she weeps, he tears breaking the painted patterns on her face. When you see your father you pull him in with one arm and hold both of them so close and so tight, the strain in your arms almost burning.
You see little Tuk running at you as she calls for you. You release your parents and bend down to pick her up. She cries in your arms. You hush her with gentle words, rubbing her back and whisper comforting words, just as you have always done when she cried.
You look behind your parents to see your two brothers standing their trying to act cool and nonchalant.
“Come here you idiots.” You say with tears still streaming down your face but with a smile. That is all the invitation they need and they run you, unceremoniously pushing your parents aside to get to you and hug you tightly. Your folks merely laugh at their antics.
“How’d you escape, kid? Did those guys bring you here?” Your father looks up from you to the group they had ignored, so focused were they on seeing you when they landed. You tense at his question, and carefully hand Tuk back to mother. When you turn to your father you see his expression is anything but pleasant. He’s downright scowling. There is murder in those eyes.
“Is that fucking Quaritch…?” His voice is low and threatening. You swallow your fear. Slowly you move from your family toward the recoms, keeping your gaze on your family. When your mother turns to them, she clutches Tuk closer to her, turning her away from them, letting out a threating and scared hiss.
“Demon!” she spits venomously.
“Hey there Mrs. Sully. Jake. Fancy seeing you here,” Quaritch says, not an ounce of fear in his voice. You inwardly cringe, now was not the time for bravado.
Tentatively you place a hand on his chest, and in a low voice whisper, “peace, my love. Play nice.” He looks to you and nods. He moves to place a hand to your face.
“DON’T YOU DARE FUCKING TOUCH HER!” You here your father yell at the top of his lungs. Before you can even turn, you feel Quaritch grab you with both hands and throw you to the side. Caught of guard, you barely catch yourself with a roll. When you look up, you see your father and mate in a fight. The ikrans, startled, fly up and out of the way, perching themselves elsewhere. All the while they cawing loudly at the sudden excitement.
You watch in horror as the two men fight. Hand to hand, bloody fists flying. You notice though, it is only your father throwing punches. Quaritch dodges what he can, but keeps his arms up to block. Never does he retaliate. It sometimes almost looks like he lets himself get hit.
“YOU FUCKING BASTARD! WHAT DID YOU PEOPLE DO TO HER, HUH?!” When father yells that, you see the falter in Quaritch’s step. He pauses, and lowers his arms. There is a guilty look on his face, his stance almost one of defeat. Jake sees, and doesn’t care. He goes for him then, blade drawn. Immediately you’re on your feet, racing toward them.  Just before your father can bring his blade down into Quaritch’s chest, your on his back, and pull with all your might, bringing him down with you. When you’re on your back, you push as hard as you can, forcing your father to tumble away from you.
He jumps to his feet immediately in fighting a stance, blade drawn.
You stand protectively in front of Quaritch, crouching defensively and hiss at your father. He’s completely taken aback by that, and looks at you confused.
“[Y/N]…?”
You don’t say anything, but stand up and open your arms wide.
“Don’t hurt him! He’s the only reason I’m even here right now!” You hear an angry growl come from your mother.
“He’s the reason you were taken in the first place!” She hisses, and you see she’s drawn her bow, aiming it straight at Quaritch. The rest of your siblings are behind her. You see Tuk cowering behind Kiri’s legs.
You turn then to stand to block her arrow, holding your arms out as far as you can, and you meet your mother’s stare. But she’s not looking at you. Her eyes are fixed solely on the man behind you. You can’t see, but you wonder where he’s looking. Her eyes fall to you, then back to him. You can see her shaking slightly, her face scrunched, conflicted.
“Daughter. Lower your bow…” You hear Mo’at approaching. She stands beside her daughter, her back to you.
“Mother…?” Neytiri is confused. Surely she understands who this Demon is. Slowly she lowers her bow, still gripping it tightly, arrow still knocked and ready.
“That…is your daughter’s mate…”
When she hears that, your mother let’s out the most blood curdling scream you have ever heard. She doesn’t think, only acts on instinct. She lifts her bow, pulls back and fires an arrow aimed straight at his head.
“NO!!!” you screamed as she let the arrow loose.
A powerful wind suddenly sweeps through the area. The force of it enough push you and everyone else to their knees. The coldness bites at your skin to the point it burns. The sting causing your eyes to water, so you squeeze them shut. The force is unrelentingly, assaulting from every direction, causing your hair to wildly thrash around you. You don’t expect it to be so loud either, moving your hands to cover your ears. Barely can you hear the confused cries of everyone around you, all in fear. You faintly hear the sounds of the ikrans above you; all scared caws and bellows.
You try with every ounce of strength you can muster to open your eyes, and are only able to open them but a fraction.
You are surprised then, to see someone standing in front of you, though you can barely make out her profile. When you look up, you see she is staring down at you.
Her skin is so light, it is almost shimmering. The dark gold of her hair remains still, even in this windy assault. You can’t see her eyes. And when you blink, she’s changed. Skin darker than night, but in the early morning sunlight, it is almost iridescent. You think you can see tiny swashes of rainbow dance across her skin. Her hair, still unmoving, is now brilliant white, like the stars in the sky. It is only then that you notice she has one arm raised, and in her hand she holds your mother’s arrow. When you blink again however, she is gone, taking the wind with her. The arrow falls before you, broken at the shaft.
Slowly you move your hands from your ears, wiping the tears from your eyes. You hear the groans and scared cries of the people around you.
“[Y/N]! You alright?!” Immediately Quaritch has his hands on you, turning you to face him. He searches your face, and once he’s satisfied, he pulls you to him in a tight embrace. He sighs in relief into your hair.
Neytiri can only sit and stare. She has no words for the sight before her. And she weeps. Weeps at her daughter in the arms of her sworn enemy. Weeps at the shadow she saw in the wind. She is no fool. She understood, and she weeps; for although she will never question the Will of the Great Mother, she cannot stop herself from feeling great sadness.
---
Awkward.
It is so unbearably awkward.
After what happened at the Spirit Tree, Mo’at insisted all of you, the recoms included, return to High Camp. Eywa has made her stance on the matter quite clear.
So here you sit, in your family’s tent, Quaritch at your side. Your parents sit across from you, staring daggers at the man. Your father has his arms crossed. Their gaze flitters from him to you. You to him. Your eyes are cast downward, unable to meet theirs. You fiddle with the hem of the shirt you’re wearing as you sit on your knees.
The rest of Quaritch’s squad was sent to where actual Avatars were kept, told they weren’t allowed to leave the barracks, and if they did, they’d be shot on sight.
Your siblings where given strict instructions to not disturb any of you until this, meeting, was complete.
“Explain.” That is the only word you father says. Only thing he needs to say. You open your mouth to speak, but father cuts you off. “He can speak for himself.”
Like you, Quaritch is sitting on his knees. He feels humiliated, being forced into this submissive pose. He remembers clearly how he was Jake’s superior. But he has to remind himself, he is on Jake’s territory now. And Jake is quite literally the Leader.
“What’dya wanna know, Sully?”
“Start from the very beginning. How the fuck are you back, for a start. Pretty sure that’s your arrow riddled corpse down there on the old battlefield.”
You see Quaritch’s tail flinch at that. You consciously bring your tail and wind it around his, calming him. Your mother sees this, and you hear her curse under hear breath at him, calling him all manner of profanities. You don’t untangle your tails.
You listen intently as Quaritch explains then. How he and his squad were subject to having copies of all their memories up to a certain point made. How they had to record videos for their resurrected selves, to explain the situation. He didn’t go into detail about what he recorded.
He explained how he remembered Spider’s birth and his mother. You tighten your tail around his as a tightness in your chest forms. This was before your time, yet you can’t help the coil of jealously in your gut. This was your mate. It is you who should have given him children first.
He talks about how he remembers the assault on home tree, the death of Spider’s mother. But that’s where his memory ends. He has no recollection of his own death.
“That’s how it was…until I got my memories back. All of them.” He looks to you as he says that, his expression soft and loving.
“What do you mean?” Father asks, confusion on his face.
“Eywa.”
Your mother makes an angry growl at that.
“You do not speak her name! You have no right!” She spits at him, pointing at him accusingly.
“Wait a minute now Mrs. Sully, I’m only here because of Her, alright?”
“Are you saying, this, is Her fault?” She points between the two of you.
“Well kind of, I mean, but not really—well?” Quaritch is struggling for the right words. He doesn’t want to outwardly blame Eywa, but she didn’t exactly stop either of you.
“Mother, let me explain.” You try and use your most diplomatic voice, soft and gentle. She looks to you, hurt evident in her eyes. But she sits back and lets you speak.
---
You start from your beginning. The Dreams. How, as a child, you met a human man, not the friendliest of sorts, but happily indulged you when you asked about humanity and their Home. How he took every opportunity to brag about his people and their accomplishments. How over time you came to learn he was a dead soul, kept by Eywa, and he knew it too. There came a time, years on when you were much older, that when he gave you his real name, (you had been addressing him by title only), you knew who he was.
The two of you never spoke about it, but you know who he was then. And when you gave him your full name, the implications of who you were became known. For reasons you cannot explain, you kept approaching him in your Dreams, after all the years you two had a sort of friendship.
You then spoke of how you couldn’t stop yourself, but you developed a crush on this older man. He didn’t treat you like a freak, not like the boys in the clan. Sure he may have treated you like a bit of a nuisance as a kid, but warmed up to you as time passed, especially when it was clear you weren’t going away.
“And so um…You remember, a few years ago, when I had…all those…marks?”
You watch with baited breath as realisation dawns on both your parents features. A strangled cry leaves your mother and she lunges for Quaritch. Jake grabs her around the waist, holding her steadfast to him. She fights to free herself from him, but she has little fight in her. She isn’t crying, but she is yelling and screaming at Quaritch, calling him all manner of vile filth she can muster in English. Your father whispers in her ear, trying to calm her, holding her head to his chest. She relents eventually, an almost cry escapes her lips as she buries her head into his neck, holding him close.
You lips quiver as you struggle not to cry. You have never felt such shame in your life. You start to question every choice you have ever made. Before you can fall into a descent of self-loathing, you feel a hand slide into yours, entwining your fingers. You look up to your mate, tears threatening in the corner of your eyes.
The look he gives you washes away any doubt. Spider was right. He looks at you just like father looks at mother; like you yourself hung the stars in the sky. Reverence.
“I don’t understand though…You were dead. How were you able to, interact?” You father has a confused and disgusted look on his face.
“We figured that, whatever happened to my soul in the shared Dreamscape, must get reflected onto my body in the real world.”
Father nods, not questioning further, he didn’t want the details.
“Colonel…You know that’s incredibly fucked up right?” Jake directs his ire to Quaritch. The man has no response. He knows what he did was wrong. He lowers his head in shame.
“I’m sor—”
“DON’T YOU DARE APOLOGISE!”
Everyone jumps at your sudden outburst. You gaze is fixed solely on your mate, hurt and anger in your eyes. You turn to him, grabbing both his hands firmly in yours.
“Don’t you dare say those words, you here me? I’m not sorry it happened. I was not some ignorant child. I knew what I was doing was wrong. And I knew better, I simply didn’t care! You made me happy. Really happy! Happier than I had been in, months, years even. And I was already falling hopelessly in love with you. And Eywa be damned, I would do it all over again.” You place a soft kiss to his knuckles. You see his lips press into a thin line as he tries to hold himself back, ears pressed back. He breaks eye contact, looking down at your joint hands instead. You understand the things he cannot say in front of your parents, and gently squeeze his hands. You feel him squeeze back.
“Ma Jake, I—I can’t,” You mother says and abruptly gets to her feet and hastily leaves. He calls for her, but she doesn’t come back. It breaks your heart, but you swallow the lump in your throat. You’ll cry it out later.
“Dad, it’s okay…It’s a lot for her to take in…” He sighs heavily.
“You can say that again…I remember though. Your attitude changed. Seemed like you had a falling out with the person we thought you were seeing.”
“Ah well, he kinda disappeared.”
“Disappeared?” He looks to Quaritch, confused. Said man clears his throat.
“Like I said before. Eywa. She came to me. Said She needed me for a purpose, but was gonna put me to sleep. Said when I wake up, it’d be in a new body. Thing is, none of us that made these backups, even knew we were gonna get resurrected in Na’vi bodies. But She did. Said, the memories would never be enough. The bodies wouldn’t work. Think She said something like, ‘These Na’vi bodies will exist because I allow it. And they will end, because I demand it.’ Then She knocked me out before I could ask more.”
You father nods and huffs, taking it all in. He’s quite for time, contemplating, thinking.
“So, you’re really Quaritch then? Not some, fake with memories?”
“In the flesh.”
“I’ll say.” You slap a hand to your mouth, unexpectedly chiming in with a flirt. You father frowns at you and you look elsewhere.
“Fuck man…FUCK.” Your father rubs the back of his head in frustration. “This is serious bullshit!” He gets up and starts pacing back and forth, muttering to himself. Eventually he stops, a deep aggravated sigh leaving him.
“Look…I’ll talk to your mother. Try and calm her down. I can’t promise you guys anything. Quite frankly I’d have been happier just killing YOU,” he points at Quaritch, “but if Eywa wants you alive then so be it. I can’t guarantee the rest of the clan is going to be keen on the idea of you staying, and I’m not about to risk unrest to make you comfortable.”
“I understand…”
Quicker than you’re able register, your father has a blade pressed to Quaritch’s neck. You gasp but make no move to stop him this time.
“If you hurt her...There is no place on this planet, no place that the Great Mother can protect you. I will find you. And I will kill you.”
“I’d sooner die than hurt her.”
“Good. Then we finally agree on something.”
You father pulls back and holsters his blade.
“Get out of here. I had the kids set up a tent for you to use.”  He dismisses Quaritch with a wave of his hand. Suddenly Spider is there, and you wonder if the entire little entourage had been eavesdropping this whole time. “Spider show him where his tent is.”
“Yes sir.”
Quaritch gets up and follows without another word. You get up to follow but your father stops you.
“Wait, [Y/N]. I want to speak with you in private.”
Quaritch gives you one forlorn look over his shoulder before he exists the tent.
---
You stand in silence as you wait for father to address you. He doesn’t, and instead, grabs you and pulls you into his arms. He holds you tight, pressing your head into his shoulder. You bring your arms up around him without a second thought.
“I’m so glad you’re safe, baby girl…I—we really got worried there. Thought we weren’t gonna see you again…”
You pull back and wipe a stray tear from your eye.
“Heard you turned up the heat.” He lets out a laugh like huff at that.
“Yeah, I may have gotten a little over zealous…But I’m glad you’re back, safe and sound.” He kisses your head and hugs you tightly again. “I love you, [Y/N].”
“Love you too, Dad.”
There is a beat of silence that passes between you two, just holding each other tight. You’re reminded then, of how this was the safest place to you as a child.
“Is…is this what you really want? Does he really make you happy?”
“Yeah Dad…he really does.” You say, not a hint of shame in your voice. You father sighs in defeat again. Poor man’s been doing that a lot lately.
“Alright… I sure as shit don’t like it, in fact I’m pretty sure I hate it. But, I wonder if this is what Neytiri’s parents felt like when she chose me, kinda. Well, not really the same, cuz ya know, it wasn’t directly me that blew up—”
“Dad please. You’re rambling.”
“Right, right, sorry. Just…Give your mother and grandmother time, yea? It’s gonna take a lot more time for them to come around to this idea. Hell, I’m not sure I’m entirely on board here. So please, please, be patient with them. With us.”
“Of course father. Without question. Thank you,” you hug him tightly one more time before you make your exist. You want nothing more than to fall into your mate’s arms.
When you exist the tent, you aren’t the least bit surprised to find your younger siblings scrambling to their feet. Of course they heard everything. Awkwardly they stand around, avoiding your piercing gaze. Well, everyone except Tuk. She runs to you and demands to be picked up. You do so without question, hugging her tightly.
“I’m pretty sure we were all taught how rude it is to eavesdrop,”
“It was Lo’ak’s idea!” Tuk tattles without a second thought.
“Tuk?!” He yells at her. She merely sticks a tongue out him. You simply laugh at their antics. Neteyam clears his throat and moves to take Tuk from you. She moves without a fight.
“So…Spider’s dad? Really?” Lo’ak speaks up and you cringe at the phrasing.
“Yep,” you say with a load pop to the ‘p’. You look to Kiri and see the angry and confused look to her face. Understandable, you think, knowing that he’s the reason her mother isn’t around.
“Kiri—” she holds a hand to you, stopping you from continuing.
“Don’t [Y/N], just—don’t. I don’t know how to feel about, any of this…But I felt her, Eywa, when we were down at the Spirit Tree. She saved him. For reasons I will never truly understand. So…Urgh. I don’t know. I’m happy for you, I guess?” There’s expiration in her voice. You know she’s trying her best to be supportive. Finding ones mate was always supposed to be a beautiful thing. You give her the best smile you can muster under the circumstances.
“Thank you, Kiri…” She gives you a curt nod, then takes Tuk from Neteyam.
“I’m gonna go help grandmother, I’ll talk to you later,” and with that she makes a hasty exit.
Lo’ak pats you on the back, sensing your sadness.
“It’ll be alright sis. She’ll come around.” You smile appreciatively at his words.
“Heh…aren’t you guys, disgusted in me too?” Lo’ak merely shrugs at you.
“It’s nice to know I’m not the only screw up around here.”
“Oi!” You punch his arm playfully, he hisses at the pain but laughs all the same, rubbing the tender spot.
“Regardless…” Neteyam breaks his silence. “Just, be careful [Y/N]. I don’t want to see you get hurt.” You regard him with a solemn smile.
“Bit late for that I’m afraid,” Your two brothers share a look but don’t press you for answers. “Anyway, can you show me where his tent is set up?” Lo’ak gestures you to follow him, and Neteyam goes off on his own, having other tasks to do.
---
When you enter his living space, you're surprised to see Spider still there. They both look up when they sense your presence.
“We’ll finish this later, son.” Quaritch says and gently pets Spider on his shoulder. The boy smiles at him and goes to leave, not before hugging you. Once he's left, you go about closing off the tent, ensuring the two of you have the utmost privacy, all the while Quaritch watches you silently.
Satisfied all is secure and there should be no interruptions, you walk straight over to where he is sitting. You drop yourself into his lap, legs wrapping tightly around his mid. You press yourself as hard as you can to him, as if he could swallow you whole into his very being. Head pressed into the bottom of his throat, your arms go around his neck, gripping tightly at his hair. It hurts but he doesn’t mind, doesn’t voice a single complaint.
Strong arms wrap around you, warm, secure, and tightly. You cry then; you’ve been doing that a lot lately. But you don’t care right now. You break down in your mates arms.
Every fear, regret, guilt, and sadness pouring from you all at once.
The meeting with your parents perhaps didn’t go as disastrously as it could have; no one died at least. But you wish it could have gone better. You feel terrible for what your mother must be going through. She must feel like the whole world is against her.
To bring her worst enemy, the very man that caused the death of her father, and then to have said man be mated with you? The thought causes you cry even harder. It is an ugly cry, nothing but tears and snot.
Quaritch doesn’t give a damn though. He rocks you back and forth in his arms, one hand goes to the back of your head, the other starts rubbing up and down your spine in a soothing motion. He starts humming then, a song you don’t recognise. The low vibrations of his voice gently bringing your crying to but a whimper.
“It's alright baby, I got you. You’re safe with me.” He whispers in your ear, and suddenly exhaustion sits heavily on your shoulders. You feel so drained from everything that’s happened. You close your eyes and let sleep take you, lulled by his continued humming.

The leathery flap of your Ikan’s wings pushed you higher above the tree line. You told her to keep a steady pace beside Toruk Makto with the rest of the warriors soaring through the dense forest. Sylway did as she was told while brushing past the greenery and other Ikran. She was an albino with light yellow and tan accents.
The RDA train was on schedule and so were you, assault rifle in hand – your preferred weapon from the traditional bow and arrow like Neytiri.
The ground war party was steadily barreling towards the tracks beneath the dozens of Ikran above. Your heartbeat quickened against your breast as the clearing and train rails fast approached in the distance. Your senses heightened, from the tinkling of your braids in the wind, to the sound of Sylway’s breathe. It was all so sensitive and loud.
Then, all hell broke loose.
You screamed an encouraging roar towards the other warriors beside you, lifting your arm up holding your weapon. Neytiri clicked her teeth and screeched as well, showing off her father’s bow. He was with them in spirit.
The explosion of the rails grounded your resolve.
You chased beside a gunship before gaining enough momentum to flip upside down and fire a hail of bullets into the cockpit, steadying your Ikran upright with a loud whoop as the ship lost control and fell into the ground.
Like ants to a honey-oozed split in a tree, the Na’vi below got to work exploiting the scattered RDA cargo. You watched from above for any more incoming airships.
Then, through your scopes with ears pinching backwards, you saw the two biggest headaches of the clan. Neteyam and Lo’ak.
Putting down your scopes, you reeled your eyes with a light shake of your head and cussed.
You could smack’em!
Fucking idiots!
Spits of rocket fire then screeched through the air, causing your Ikran to instinctively bank away from the weapon spree to protect herself and you.
Explosions hit the ground and you panicked. Fortunately, a mounted warrior retaliated with a rocket launcher and took the machine down in a fiery trail of blaze and smoke.
Placing your fingers onto the com around your neck, you shout, “Jake! You read me!?”
He breathily responds as he crawled and jumped through the wreckage for his boys, “Get me visuals on my sons!”
You searched the area but it was too clouded to see ground level from your height.
“Negative. The smoke is too thick!”
“Copy. Retreat immediately.”
~
As you took your rider’s harness off Sylway, you could hear the shouts of Jake’s disappointment from across the caverns. Patting your Ikran’s neck for a good job, your ears tipped back lightly with quilt. You should have seen them descend onto the ground, but you were distracted with anxiety watching the horizon for RDA gunships.
Gazing over to the Sully family, your eyes sunk as you watched the two boys walk away to recover their wounds, Jake walking in the opposite direction to decompress, his tail swiping in all different directions from his rage.
It was done. There was nothing you could do but let the storm pass.
After your adrenaline calmed and you had something to eat, you went to find Norm and the other humans to give them your daily rider’s mask footage for their never ending research into the world of Pandora. It was the least you could do to stay connected to your human side… and show off your battle moves.
You could see that Norm was still connected to his avatar as he brushed his teeth and joked with the Sully kids who were maneuvering through the human camp.
Walking into the old RDA unit, the balls of your cheeks lifted as your grinned towards Max, hand outreached with the small camera on your rider’s mask for him to take.
He was always a welcoming sight, even though your appearance had changed significantly since your transition, he had always treated your like the same old scientist he had worked with before you became Na’vi.
Your heart sank as you saw Kiri having to watch her mother through a projection and a tank. Unable to touch or hug one’s mother had its toll on the young girl and you mourned for Grace’s daughter. Mourned for what could have been if Grace had survived.
Your former mentor would have been so proud of the woman Kiri was becoming. She would have been so proud of you too, living one with the Na’vi and surviving through your sickness that ultimately made Jake and Mo’at decide to help you transition to your healthy, non-diseased avatar body.
After you handed the camera to Max, you exited the unit and passed by Norm’s now dormant avatar body in his cot. By the threshold was a few pictures of the Sully family with the human scientists, Grace with her students from years past before the war, and one in particular that pulled at your heartstrings: Trudy sitting in her gunship.
The picture must’ve been taken by Lyle sometime when they first arrived to Pandora.
Everyone who came to Pandora was escaping something else left behind on Earth.
It was a fresh start.
Every person who took the journey was naïve, young, and full of hope for a better future… until they reached the ‘final frontier’ and realized that it was just another shithole. Then slowly that glimmer of goodness and hope snuffed itself out, eventually turning the best of soldiers into assholes and the scientists into recluses.
But you… you tried to hold onto that hope, even in the end when you were dying.
You gave a solemn grin towards Trudy and gently fist pumped the picture before stepping out into the Na’vi settlement inside the vast cave system of the Halleluiah mountains.
Into your home, you sat down on your cot and rubbed your temple. You had a massive headache and reached for your pills. Over the years, the war and the fall of the RDA broke down your ‘spirit’ as Mo’at had put it, leaving you to resort to pill popping every day to help you sleep.
When you found the leftover stash of pills in the abandoned RDA medical bay, you knew you were doomed. There was plenty of medicine for a few decades, but the pills you exploited had dwindled to a few containers in just fifteen years. You were too ashamed to ask for help or let anyone know about your addiction.
You laughed at yourself. Everyone thought the RDA was killed off during the war, but it still lingered to ravage the one person who wanted to desperately leave it all behind: you.
Ironically, at one point, the RDA was going to save you with a life altering surgery on Earth, but of course that journey home would never come, nor would you have survived your sleep in cryo. Your disease was too advanced at that point and war had already begun – you, Grace, Norm, Jake, and Trudy all escaping into the woods last minute.
Parker was the one who orchestrated the whole deal with the military on your behalf in secret.
He was just a manager trying to make business deals wherever he could dab into just like he did with Jake. And he was trying to save face and hold the whole company together that was inevitably falling apart no matter how ‘diplomatic’ he was trying to be.
When he broke it to you that you would… could… be saved from the cancer spreading through your spine, it had taken everything out of you to try to keep a foothold in the lab and the RDA.
A double life.
You and Jake had confided in each other for the same problems. Jake wanted his legs back, but he fell in love with Pandora too quickly. And you? You wanted to live.
Sifting through your things, you took out a box filled with pictures of the old you.
A whole life shoved away into stained carboard that you’d hoped one day you could forget about.
Flipping through the pictures, you found the ones taken when you had first arrived to Pandora with the other scientists. You were the youngest, a child prodigy who grew to become the woman Grace had chosen to accompany her to a foreign planet… five years before Tommy Sully would be killed.
You stood up abruptly and found a metal tray. Taking out a lighter, you brought the small flame to the stack of photos.
Slowly the blue and yellow ambers ate the pictures until they were a pile of black dust.
Your shoulders slacked and you sighed, then cleaned up the ashes of a past life and went to bed.
~
The next morning felt different. Almost like the world was reborn anew and it was a new day. You wanted to move on from last night and continue to focus on what mattered in front of you.
You shoved a tank top over your arms and slipped it over your torso before clipping a few feathered and beaded necklaces around your neck, resting just atop your breasts. The cargo capris you chose were basic camo as always to blend in with nature. No need to wear boots anymore for your feet had become tough and calloused over the years running around with the Na’vi on their hunts when Ikrans weren’t necessary. You chose some dangle earrings for your lobes and then stepped forward into camp, rifle settled against your back.
The morning was perfect until four heads caught your attention.
Morning ruined.
Your eyes narrowed, ears slightly poking upwards, when you took note of Lo’ak, Kiri, and Spider trying to chase away Tuk from their group. She tugged Kiri’s arm and said something that clearly made Lo’ak cease his attitude and bend to the young one’s wishes, expelling a few ‘ssshhhs’ at her while looking around the camp.
Your suspicions were reinforced when the four Na’vi exited the cave with a little too much bounce in their steps.
So naturally, you followed.
You weren’t going to let Lo’ak get in trouble again.
~
The woods were humming with life and buzzing all around you, like Eywa was breathing through every pink leaf and green blade of grass that brushed your ankle. The sunlight filtering through the canopy of jungle warmed the crown of your head as you steadied your bodyweight evenly from foot to foot, bouncing here and there over thick vines and rocks.
You were at peace here in the beautiful wilderness.
The crunch and muddy splash of your bare feet was light as to not reveal yourself to the Sully children who were blissfully unaware of you following behind them. You grinned when Tuk poked her tongue out at her older brother when he mocked her for what she had said about ‘telling mom’ earlier at camp.
So that’s what that was about.
They kept up a steady place towards unfamiliar territory from the war that you were pretty sure Jake had told them to stay clear of. Once they had gotten far enough, you brushed through the woods quickly in a different direction to get in front of them. You wanted to stop them from going further into an unknown region you yourself was uncomfortable with because this side of the forest was cursed in your eyes. It was where Jake had finished the last fight against the RDA.
Against the Colonel.
Your skin tingled at the thought of finding Quaritch’s corpse.
Then a puddle caught your attention in the corner of your golden eyes.
Looking closer, ears falling tightly against your head in fear, it was larger than your foot, and no toes were visible so it was a booted footprint but too large to be human.
Avatar?
But what would an Avatar be doing this far out from base or from the old Hell’s Gate lab where Spider grew up with the science guys.
Looking up, you had lost track of the kids.
Shit!
Quickly regaining yourself and using your hunter skills, you find Spider and the Sully’s foot patterns again and swiftly make your way through the wooden trails to find them.
Peering up, you saw that daylight was going to disappear in a few hours. Eclipse would come and Jake was going to kill Lo’ak.
Brushing past a large leaf, you find the Sully children looking over an old gunship hanging from vines and take a sigh of relief while thanking the Great Mother.
Stepping forward, poor Spider jumped making Tuk scream before calming, realizing it was you.
“(Y/N)!” Tuk ran up to your side and hugs your hip making you smile and pat her head gently.
Lo’ak jumped down from a large, fallen tree trunk and asked you how you found them.
“Yeah, we’re in the middle of nowhere,” Spider chimed in.
“Well, you’re not a good tracker if you hadn’t noticed me following you since base,” you say, folding your arms in disappointment at Lo’ak’s lack of awareness but also his lack of self-control for getting into trouble.
“We need to leave before eclipse,” you note.
“But we want to find dead bodies,” Tuk replied with a little too much enthusiasm that made you chuckle.
“Just one more hour?” Spider asked politely, soft eyes through his exopack.
Your head tilted and you gave in with a loud breath. “Fine. But if you get in trouble, I’m not bailing you out.”
“If you allow us to go, you’re just as guilty,” Lo’ak teased walking away with a proud smile as he turned his weight to hop over a log.
“That’s why I’m coming with! To make sure you don’t get too carried away, skxawng,” you retorted effortlessly, arms swaying in front of your as you pick up a spot in front of the group near Lo’ak.
Then, just as quickly as the positive mood came, it died when another print in the mud captured Lo’ak and Spider’s attention.
“Could it be human?”
“Too big for a human,” you replied. “I saw another track earlier not far from here,” your braids fell over your shoulder when you crouched down in between the boys, “could be from the same group?”
Moving forward, the boys tracked the footprints while you hesitantly followed their curiosity, for you too were curious about who had left the tracks.
It wasn’t long before the trail led to an old avatar link unit in a small clearing.
A flicker of blue moving around near the unit had your blood sink from your face and into your stomach. These were possibly avatars and they were in camo with heavy protection in their hands.
You quietly swing your rifle to your front and hold it close as you squatted lower, watching the avatars attentively.
“You’re going to be grounded… for life,” Kiri said in a hushed voice behind you towards Lo’ak.
“Be quiet,” you hissed at the lot of them.
You look over to Lo’ak, “Call it in. Now.”
The youngest son reluctantly placed his fingers to his neck and informed his father of the strange soldiers in the woods. Jake told them to move out as quietly as they could and you followed suit.
“Protect my children,” Neytiri said through your earpiece you briefly borrow from Lo’ak.
A fire burned in you when she said that, hand gripping your rifle hard. You would get these kids out of here. For her. For Jake. These kids were yours now and you weren’t going to allow them to be harmed by those soldier aliens.
You placed a firm hand on Lo’ak’s shoulder and looked him directly in the eye, ears upright and eyes wide with all seriousness.
“Get yourselves out of here, I will make a distraction -- you hear me, boy?”
“Yes, ma’am,” he said, dipping his chin with a short nod.
With that, you stepped lightly and maneuvered quickly through the forest around the clearing and only stopped when you found yourself behind one of the soldiers a little bit away from the group who wasn’t watching his six enough. Slinging your rifle behind you, you pulled out your knife.
He moved forward into the clearing when a scream echoed through the trees beyond, sounding a lot like Tuk.
You gathered that these were RDA from the guy’s attire and type of weapon he carried. That made you pissed. At least he would be a worthy target when you slit his throat.
But that moment had to wait when your mind paused in shock as Spider and the Sully children were pushed into the clearing and forced onto their knees, queues roughly handled by the strange soldiers.
Great Mother, give me strength.
Then you heard a voice in your native English you didn’t think you’d hear until you died and went to hell.
“Look boss, five fingers. We have a half-breed,” Lyle sneered with a little cockiness as he held up Kiri’s hand.
The leader of the group was obscured by the brush and when you tried to see his face, he had already turned around to face Lo’ak.
“Do you speak English,” the soldier pinching the young Na’vi’s braid asked him.
“I don’t speak English… to assholes,” he spat making you so proud.
“Show me your fingers,” the leader roughly commanded.
Then Lo’ak picked up his hands, both fingers to your amusement giving the bird.
“Yeah, you’re his alright.”
While the enemy was distracted and with a rush of adrenaline, you pushed forward out of the shadows, grabbed the lone soldier’s braid in a tight grip making him growl in pain, and firmly pressed the edge of your knife to his bare throat, your hand around his queue yanking his neck backwards for better exposer. Your ears tipped backwards closely to your head, eyes wide, fangs bared with hate as you hissed towards the alien soldiers.
And in what felt like an eternity of silence from your native tongue, you spoke plainly.
“Release them, or I’ll slit his throat,” you seethed, blade catching your hostage’s neck and spilling a few dribbles of blood.
Then, when the leader of the group finally turned his weight around, shoulders squared, and faced you, you couldn’t hear Eywa’s breath through the trees anymore. Your lungs hitched in your throat, heart dropping a few beats slower making your head faint. Golden eyes bore into your form, mimicking the same shock and curiosity as you did.
“Miles?” you breathed, brow creased and ears flicking upright.
You couldn’t feel your grip loosen, nor the sound of the rush of twigs being broken behind you. Then your senses snapped back into place, but it was too late. Turning your head, you found the butt of a rifle colliding with your skull.
