1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 49. I have a few options for #50…

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 299,440. Ok, I hadn’t realized I was that close. Now, my answer to #1 might be “a new 560-word drabble.”

3. What fandoms do you write for? I’m nearly exclusively writing for Avatar: Legend of Korra, with a little bit of Last Airbender, where it fits in.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

1. Rainstorm - Su is there for Lin, for once. 2. The Well of Need - My first long-form story, with Lin taking care of Kya. 3. This is My Anchor - A mid-sized Kyalin story where Lin doesn’t make Kya take care of her. 4. I’m Sorry I Need You - An angsty one-shot that fits with a couple others in the “marriage is hard” domain. 5. Walk With Me - A longer-than-intended one-shot variant on a Tumblr joke.

5. Do you respond to comments? I do, as soon as I can. Sometimes, that means getting off work. Sometimes, that means giving a response as meaningful as the comment was to me. 

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? For complete stand-alone stories, that is likely Something Changed, where the last words are usually joyous. I can’t find the link for the worst-worst ending I have, so just pretend that never happened.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? The happiest ending? I like my happy endings, so this is tough. But I think I’ll go for Elemental Changes, because that launched my collaboration with @slowdissolve on Red Jade.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not hate, exactly. One reader informed me that I had ‘let them down’ on a follow-up story because I didn’t write the story that was in their head. 

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I’ve done a little, but it hasn’t been a focus for me. And, aside from the polyamory aspect, it’s all as vanilla as it comes.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not unless you count LOK + ATLA a crossover, which I don’t.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to date.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? @slowdissolve and I wrote Moonsigns together, and we published two versions. One is told in first-person language and color coded, on Tumblr. We then followed it up with a more traditional third-person version that does not rely on color, on AO3.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? Kyalin is where everything opened up for me. 

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I’m taking quite the long view of all of this. I haven’t added to Their Sacred Year in a while, but have the outline for the next installment, so I don’t consider it abandoned.

16. What are your writing strengths? Folks seem to like my dialogue and plotting.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I struggle with the final rising action / climax / falling action, to keep the pacing appropriate to the story.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I don’t plan on it, given I am uneducated in the languages appropriate to this setting. 

19. First fandom you wrote for? Legend of Korra.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Saving the hardest for last. Naming the favorite child. Ok, fine. In that case, I’ll have to choose <wrestles with self> Elemental Changes (see #7), mostly because it’s a completely off-the-wall idea that I was able to see through and complete. And to have Slowdissolve illustrate the ending was an absolute capstone.

most of the time. i do it to encourage people to comment, because really really like comments. but if i get a comment i SUPER like i put off answering it because i wanna give it the time it deserves. ironically that means i have yet to respond to some of my favorite comments. oops.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

idk i think they're all pretty equally angsty. like a lot of them end with the implication that more abuse is going to happen after the story's been concluded, lol.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

definitely Show Me Already, it's the only one that doesn't end with someone feeling like garbage or implying some kind of abuse is about to happen. just an alien brain slug excited to make his boyfriend happy.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

i dont think so? I think someone commented something rude once on one of my smut fics but im not great at telling tone so idk.

yup, the fucked up kinky kind that could get me harassed by ppl who's opinions i dont care about but who would prolly be really fucking annoying to deal with

too complex a question for this kind of game. if i were to do it i'd want to get the input of someone who like, actually speaks it or something. but idk. i'd try my best on my own, cuz im unlikely to find someone willing to do that kind of beta reading for me, and though i'd want to compensate them somehow i'm so fuckin broke.

Dimension 20 Starstruck Odyssey. i think it was the first fanfic i ever wrote and posted and i have no idea what drove me to it.

ive been told my writing feels very grounded and in-body, and im very deliberate with my word choices when im trying to create a mood

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

once again being deliberate with my word choice means i agonize over the smallest sentences 😭 and i have "say as much as possible in as few words as possible" disease so i often struggle to like. Elaborate. and i am the slowest writer on this planet i think.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

if the POV character doesn't understand what is being said, keep it in the language its said in. if the POV character understands what is being said, just say "blah blah blah," he says in [language]. thats my hot take. i dont know if its particularly hot. is this even what is being asked? i have holes in my brain.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

ive written assorted snippets for many but f1 is the first fandom where ive written and actually finished and published fic.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

its a tie between muscle memory and something borrowed, the former because it took me forever and im so proud to have finished it and how it came out, and the latter because it was my first fic and my baby and i could not have dreamed of the reception it got, its so special to me and everyone was so kind to me and made me believe i could actually Do This

14. what's a wip you want to finish but dont think you ever will? lmao if you had asked me a week ago, i would have said my current longfic, when you catch him, he burns through your heart, like a shooting star burns the skies but im actively up and working on that again, so. i guess something i dont imagine i'll return to any time soon is my series of harth/link fics, you hold my touch in you, simply because it's been a while now, and i dont imagine that such a minor npc as harth will be in botw's sequel, so... how will i rekindle my desire to write for them. idk! it's all up in the air though - i haven't necessarily abandoned any of my unfinished fics, theyre just on indefinite haitus.

15. what are your writing strengths? i would like to think that my poet's voice shines through my prose and therefore that my description is sufficiently good! lmao i have to sometimes physically stop myself from writing 5 paragraphs waxing poetic about the scenery. also honourary mention to dialogue. im pretty proud of some of the lines of dialogue ive written.

16. what are your writing weaknesses? hhghgh action. handling a big plot sensitively. ive been really struggling with making sure ive got hold of all my threads in my long fic. i dont think ive let go of any yet but im constantly paranoid that ive dropped one lmao. also i find action so hard!! the pacing of it, the choice of words, the making sure the reader doesnt get bored by not over or under describing whats happening! hhg.

17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language? if this means in the sense that a character is speaking a different language in the fic, then. i've seen it done a few ways. personally i ofc want to understand whats being said, so i like it best when the line is written in english but perhaps put in italics, with a tag saying smth like "they said in french/whatever langauge". ive also seen it done as typed in the langauge followed by the english translation in italics. either way works, i just don't rlly like it when it's completely untranslated!! even having like a lil dictionary in the end notes works.

18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for? good omens lmao. i wrote fic before that but im not going into that, and i dont even think i could find it again bc it's lost in the depths of ff.net. i was also 13/14. so yeah :/

19. what's your favourite fic you've ever written? ppl dont really like this fic bc it's gen/not shippy and possibly also bc it was inspired by music, but. i have a real soft spot for my fic rose quartz and cool safflina. (botw, T) i wrote it while listening to la dispute's album panorama, and i think having the music helped me write with such a good flow. it's a very poetic piece, though. not for everyone. i also rlly like the great frost of 1684 (good omens, Gen) though neither of them are anywhere near my popular works' stats.

- so i actually have a terrible awful habit of never finishing any of my multi chapter fanfictions BUT i would say that where I left Let Me Drown is very angsty and that fic was planned to have a very sad ending but I stopped writing it because it became too close my real life happenings (which really was the point in writing it was to project and vent) but I just got really depressed with writing it so I stopped lmao. I might still finish it but it would just be to wrap everything up.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

- probably What if I Dont. It took me like four years to come back and finish it but I think I wrapped it up really nicely. I also think There is an Olive Garden in Tombstone Arizona has a very happy ending.

- only crossover I ever wrote was Evil Dead/Reanimator crossover and I became unhappy with it so I abandoned it.

- no! lmao all sex is skipped over in my stories. im asexual and I don't like writing sex so I just don't do it. I'll write kissing/the leading up to a sex scene and then just simply skip over it.

- I try to buy sometimes I get overwhelmed. Ideally I like to respond to every comment I get but sometimes I don't know what to say lmao

10. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

- I got hate on the Star Wars fic I orphaned. Which is part of the reason I orphaned it. It was admittedly not very good.

- no + I was unaware that was a thing that happened.

- no but I would love to have some of my fics translated so they could be enjoyed by other countries! That seems fun.

- I'm very critical of my own writing so I don't see myself have any wiring strengths actually. I've been told I have a good writing tone but I don't know what it means.

- all of it lmao. But probably like structure? Run on sentences and stuff. I only ever started writing because Brett Easton Ellis who is my favorite author inspired me with his book Less Than Zero so I modeled my writing style off of his and not a lot of people like that. But I'd say I have a lot of writing weaknesses.

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

- I personally wouldn't write dialogue in another language if I didn't know the language. Since Google translate can sometimes be unreliable/the translations don't flow the same way that native speakers actually talk. If I didn't know 100% that the language I was writing in would be perceived exactly how I wanted it I wouldn't write in it.

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

- my first fandom I wrote for and posted publicly was Fallout New Vegas.

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

- this is a difficult question but I'd say my favorite fic I've written was There is an Olive Garden in Tombstone Arizona because it made me happy to write it and it was the first time I'd sat down and just written a silly little story with no real goal in mind and felt happy while doing it.

firstly, anon, you keep talking to me like that and i might start blushing... i might even kiss you 😳

secondly, i'm so glad you like the ship! i know sage/viper is like... decently popular? mid-popular fandom wise? like it isnt as big as say, reyge or nanobomb, but people have heard of it. brim/viper was actually introduced to me by @/ninadrawsstuff and @/silver-s-blog. sooo then my brain was like, "well, if you like sage/viper and you like brim/viper, and you already see sage and brim as the parents of the protocol, it only makes sense to put them together!" and thus, my first ot3 of valorant began. i dont have an official name or clever title for them; i just refer to them as the Tired Parent Trio. (if you have any better suggestions, by all means, feel free to use them though!)

in terms of content, this is like, genuinely one of my favorite and most consistent ships. each character is so interesting to me individually and their dynamics are awesome. i have a few more brim/sage/viper wips in my google docs (coincidentally, i was just working on one last night)!

i had thought about doing something multi-chaptered about them first falling in love or smth but idk. you should make content for yourself but the ship isnt popular and i also dont want to write like 20k+ words for like, maybe 5 people to end up liking it at most. maybe after i wrap up the current multi-chapter ones i have with the exception of my latest work, i may just. it's a ship brain rot and if i want content for a rarepair (raretrio?) i have to take matters into my own hands! and i definitely want to see more of them.

my only current ot3 work is, "Setting the Guidelines," which highlights their relationship and clashes with the, "no fraternization," rule. i am working on the 2nd chapter now. it was meant to be finished a month ago, but time got away from me and then i caught writer's block on it. i had over 2k words written for the 2nd chapter but it just... didn't feel right. i wasnt vibing with it. im doing it from scratch rn and hopefully making it smth better. here's a snippet of what i plan on using for its summary/teaser/advertising excerpt though:

"Haven has a unique beauty to it, all things considered.

Lush, lively green grass to crunch underneath the soles of boots and sneakers, ever-blooming branches of vibrant blossoms and leaves dangling overhead like mistletoe. Even with the abandoned, time-worn, and war-worn buildings set before backdrops of sizzling flames, peppery black smoke, and towering radianite that’d caused all this damage to begin with, nature still flourishes. Never stops for anyone. In a way, it was calming to see that no matter the damage men cause, the world will still keep breathing one way or another. 

Between the plants, buildings of crumbling debris and forgotten graffitis plastered on the walls sat still. Muted pinks and purples, silenced yellows, sullen blues from where an artist who had once seen a vision was forced to leave it all behind. They had soul, but no life anymore. Where the crisp air would refresh the mind and body at a time like this, only the tainted smell of smoke burns in the lungs and elicits a small, searing cough from the chest. Fallen specks of stone and cinder are crushed beneath their shoes as the team traverses onto each site; two on A, one on B, two on C, just as they’d planned. Just as Brimstone had reminded them over their earpieces once they’d arrived and began to disperse into their established places. Things were easy when kept to simple plans, down to a T. 

They weren’t so easy anymore when plans went wrong.

so first-off i know i already have one WIP AU (Auckland) on ao3 so i wont talk about That one cause like. spoilers. i actualyl have it like 80% created so its likely gonna truly get finished for once and i dont wanna ruin shit

the other one ive posted about is something me and ben (catgirlrepublic) have worked on together its not at all close to done or anything but it's. a fun little crossover. Between jdate and my fuckinuhm. Original characters story “Untitled Villains Project”. the sketches of the comic version ive started is actually my pinned post 👉👈 its like the first chunk of the story, i think half of part 1? yea.

Tldr john fucking Somehow is able t oget into contact with a certain curious scientist from another reality who’d just love to study the Soy Sauce, most certainly not for her own nefarious purposes

John and Dave meet up with the scientist, her name is Boss, and her lab assistant, Toxic, and after a bit of a preliminary Vibe Check where john determines her trustworthy (which Dave doesnt agree with,) the two agree to be taken to the world UVP is set in. from there they stay in Boss’s lab (big old fucking abandoned military lab). John and Toxic are fast friends due to mutual love-of-chaos. John n Dave get to fuckin, camp out on an air mattress.

The day after they arrive, the two get split up, not exactly intentionally; big plot points of UVP are liek. Fueled by Boss sending Toxic to go fetch her “research materials,” which are usually important artifacts

Fuckin side note i guess i have to explain my dumb bullshit: Boss’s, uh, field of expertise so to speak is actually fckin, basically the scientific study of magic and superpowers n shit like that. This shit’s all real in that world. Toxic’s got fuckin superpowers, so do 4 other main characters, whatever. It’s got a bit to do with spirituality, iss Boss’s hypothesis. So she has Toxic fetch important artifacts that might have “energies” to them. The thing is actually way more fuckin complictated than that, this is just Boss’s initial hypothesis.

Motherfucking anyways. So Boss gives Toxic a job to do, and John get excited about how Cool that sounds, and ends up going with Toxic, leaving Boss and Dave alone. Neither is thrilled about this. But Dave and Boss get to have a bit of conversation (while Toxic and John are off bonding and having a good time) and come to a… mutual grudging understanding of some kind. They still dont like each other though lmao

Theres gonna be deeper shit going on but we havent sorted it out yet/tbh havent like Written For It in a while but i still like thinking about it a lot lol

Also pretty sure our endgame is john and dave steal toxic and bring them back with em lmao boss is kind of not nice and toxic would most certainly be better off in Undisclosed. Actually theyd fucking love it. Theyd become a local cryptid im sure. Undisclosed’s mothman is a teleporting spike baby.

I promise this is just because i think blue and dave should get to team up to beat up some monsters

Quick briefing on my fuckinuh. Original character story, this one doesnt have a name (yet? Idk lol my work never actually goes anywhere sso who gives a shit). It centers around two grim reapers, Red (26, bi woman) and Blue (22, aroace agender asshole). In this reality or whatever, grim reapers function kind of like low-level office workers. They get told who’s going to die + when by some middle-management types, and upper management only involve themselves when punishment needs to be doled out. These Higher-Ups can be seen as analogous to Korrok; they’re decidedly not human, never were, and fucking terrifyingly powerful. Additionally, grim reapers are sort of .. designed to be “background noise” people. In reality theyre supernatural beings and, uh, look Real Fuckin Weird (the whole deal has a neon aesthetic im terrible at drawing uwu) but most humans just perceive them like extras in a movie. A body’s there but the camera’s not focused on it.

To the narrative: the shit starts when Red n Blue get relocated to Undisclosed. Relocation is something that just happens every now and then to reapers; they usually work in teams, but they get split up into different cities to avoid any strong bonds forming (a counter-union strategy from the Higher-Ups).

Red, Blue, John and Dave end up running into each other for the first time in a McDonalds where John n Dave are getting some 4am “hey, we just survived another horrific monster fight” celebration burgers. John and Dave are the only two people who can see how… strange Red and Blue are. Nobody else notices.

John unintentionally pisses Blue off, leading to Blue whacking him upside the head with a dildo bat. They all four get kicked out of McDonald’s. Dave and Red both are less than thrilled

Blue and John end up resolving their differences, somehow. Red and Dave briefly bond over their dumbass best friends being, well, dumbasses. They all part ways amicably.

somehow-or-other (idk yet) they end up running into each other a few more times, and eventually john invites them over to his place, and the four (plus Amy now!) get to know each other a little better

while there, Blue gets a text about some guy who's gonna die and John offers to drive them to where that's gonna go down. they take him up on the offer and get to have a bit of one-on-one conversation

after that ordeal though Blue has had Enough of people and bails, leaving John to head home alone

theres a sort of mirror-development going on with the five of em. Red, John, and Amy would all like everyone to get along, though theyre a bit tentative about it (John moreso than the other two, actually, jsut cause. well Red n Blue could still be Sauce Monsters). Dave and Blue on the other hand do Not like people enough for this shit, and Dave's not unconvinced theyre Sauce Monsters. he will not trust them until proven he should

the story's kinda nebulous but i got an idea for some Shit going down that involves both Sauce Monsters and also the Higher-Ups to have some fuckin absolute chaos go down.

Ive actually workshopped this one both with ben (catgirlrepublic) and ghost (ghost-wannabe) lmao its a fun lil concept ive had from the get-go cause i mean. What’s an internet tran gonna do other than hit all their favourite media with the Everyone’s Trans beam

Dave transitioned post-high school and faked his death for it. People go missing in Undisclosed all the damned time, after all. He moved to the next city over, transitioned fully, then came back as a completely new man. Yes i know this doesnt exactly fit with the “everyone knows David from high school” thing alright, hush.

Anytime anyone brings up John’s old best friend (pre-transition Dave) John throws an entire fit like an overdramatic grieving widow. Full-on sobbing “why would you bring her up?! I miss her so much—” to the point that people just stop bringing up because Jesus Christ That Sure Is Uncomfortable KJHGFDS.

This is a scheme he and Dave came up with prior to Dave leaving, though Dave hadnt exactly anticipated John putting on this much of a performance about it— but it’s stopped Dave from ever having tto hear his deadname again, so hey.

Amy transitioned sometime in middle school/early high school. Her family was super supportive and loved her a ton and most people just know her as Amy. she was super shy her whole life really so. Yeah. people just dont think to bring it up lmao also i Feel Like big jim would absolutely wallop anyone who gave her trouble of any kind

John’s nonbinary (genderfluid specifically) and not exactly Interested in transitioning ? like hes fine with how he is. mostly.

he came out to Dave in high school but hes not out to anyone else exactly. Maybe his bandmates. Probably any other trans person in Undisclosed knows, too, cause theyre safe to tell lmao. Johns mostly a “he/him out of convenience” kinda nb who’s cool with any pronouns but does prefer they/them most. Dave and Amy use they/them when the trio are alone

Also this is a totally self-indulgent caveat that i think would be great, Dave’s actually agender but because he's transmasc and transitioned when he thought there were really only two options, and being Boy at least felt less weird than being Girl, he just kind of assumed he was a dude. It’s only through a lot of (like fucking years and years hes probably in his 30s/40s when he puts 2 and 2 together on this one) talks about gender with John that he realizes he actually feels like No Gender. Masc aesthetic with none gender.

I Just Think It’d Be Neat Is All Okay

Also Amy came out to Dave about being trans early on in them seeing each other and his response was to get very nervous before blurting out “me too” and then just being too embarrassed to talk about it for the rest of the day. Hes got a lot of hangups on talking about it actually it takes years for him to get comfortable in that

by contrast when Amy comes out to John about it his response is to yell “EYYY ME TOO” and give her a big ol hug lmao

I think itd be neatt if Amy ran a like. Transfem help/advice blog on tumblr. Kind of helped-with by John who can give her transfem nb insight for certain asks. I also just think that would be neat.

Johns an absolute troublemaker, Of Course. Hes wanted in several towns for absolutely stupid shit. Hes a loner who shows up, causes chaos, gets drunk, does some drugs, runs away if people get too mad at him

He definitely had the same kind of deal with the soy sauce as in canon— he was at some kind of party, somebody offered it, he took it cause why the fuck wouldnt he, now he can see monsters and shit

Hes kind of a mooch also. Like. dont let him stay in your barn man he’ll never fucking leave and drink all your booze.

He runs into Dave when they happen to just, cross paths in the same town. the bullshit John stirs up ends up involving Dave in a way that makes it seem like it's his fault too, and they both get run out of town

after that he just tags along after Dave. hes decided this guy's Cool he wants to stick around. Dave is pissed at first, but not enough to shoot him or anything, and eventually, John grows on him

Dave

Dave also is a loner but unlike John hes simply so fucking awkward and bad with people. He doesnt feel like he belongs anywhere so he just travels

He’s the stereotypical Lone Ranger tbh. He wanders from town to town, solving their problems, though hed deny its out of any moral obligation (it kinda is, a little bit, tbh. He does like feeling useful). He shows up, fixes things, leaves. He's kind of a legend but most people think he's hiding something dark. other people jsut know him as that guy who farted real loud in the middle of the saloon and promptly skipped town out of sheer embarrassment. you know how it goes with Dave

He ends up involved with the Soy Sauce when a snake (not Actually a snake,) bites him. The snake’s more like the wig-monsters, really. Anyway, it injects him with the soy sauce, he fucking trips balls in the middle of the desert, he can see monsters now

He runs into John and shit goes tits-up, as said, but they become traveling buddies after that. he'd never say so, but he's glad for the company, actually. it's nice. hes not used to companionship but he feels a strange kind of easiness hanging out with John....

not sure how the Monster Dave concept will like fit in to this reality but like. trust me i want it in here. I'll Figure It Out.

Amy

Amy’s been living in a town John and Dave end up passing through and she is very curious about these two new Handsome Strangers who claim to fight monsters and just kinda. Persistently tags along til they let her join for real

Her family’s all dead, unfortunately, just like in canon, and she’s been living alone for a few years before meeting John n Dave. she had nothing left in that town to stay for, she'd been fantasizing about escaping on wild adventures for a long time and this felt a little like a dream come true. (Dave still gives her a spiel about how Difficult it is, but really, her fantasies were pretty grounded-in-reality already. i jsut think thats how she is, yknow?)

Shes the first person to react to the whole “we see monsters” shit with a kind of “oh, okay. neat” kind of response lmao

John and Dave fix whatever the fuck is up with her town (maybe that’s where the Korrok shit can fit, who knows) and Amy ends up being integral to that. After, she insists they take her with them because “they need her now” and Dave just cant really say no. John too is very much "the more the merrier!" and hes actually glad to have another person along he loves people lmao

At the start she has long hair but after she joins them she chops it short with a knife for convenience

also she still is an amputee. justt. idk. it was a wagon/stagecoach accident rather than a car accident lmao. just to clarify since i hadnt mentioned it, i wouldnt rob her of her ghost hand or yknow. all of the significance to her character that Missing A Hand has. although also now im going to have to research what was used as painkillers way-back-when, but im betting shes still got, like, her pain pills, they probably had those, maybe i wouldnt have to try too hard there. old timey medicine could be WACK though,

0. Zero. Nada. Nothing. I enjoy reading on Ao3 A LOT. But i've never come around to actually publishing something there. I haven't published much of my writing in general.... The only ever fanfictions I've published are in german on the website fanfiction.de

You don't need eyes to see (Again: GERMAN!) its a SwanQueen (Once upon a time) Fanfiction where Regina Mills goes blind after an accident with old magic and Emma Swan helps her navigate her new life. I write that thing since 2015. It was my second fanfiction, and I am not sure if I'll ever finisht it xD

The Handmaiden .... another SwanQueen one. Smut... its just a huge excuse for flirtatious smut

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf ... more flirtatious SwanQueen Smut. I like that okay?

Lost and Abandoned ... SwanQueen Angst. Just Angst ... But I added a second chapter later ,that one could argue makes it Hurt/Comfort.

Oooof.... I don't think, I can answer that. None of my fics really have endings. I mostly write One Shots, where the ending is basically the beginning of a bigger story. And my bigger fanfictions never got finished.... so I'd say the smutty ones have the happiest endings? I mean GET THE GIRL, GIRL!

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Ohhh, Definitly "Lost and Abandoned!" The whole premise of that Two Shot was angst!

do you write crossovers? Yes, sometimes. But none of them are published and several of them are Hogwarts AUs.

have you ever received hate on a fic? Not from all the lovely internet peeps that read my stuff, but IRL I've gotten weird looks. No explicit hate tho, and I am thankful for that. Let's hope it stays that way <3

do you write smut? if so, what kind? ....... yes....... I love flirtatious banter and power dynamics. So The literal dagger to the throught kind mostly (tho the dagger is often of verbal form tho) ... hmm besides that, it's mostly romantic, fluff and pretty vanilla smut.

Definitly You don't need eyes to see. I hate leaving it in that constant unfinished state with publishing aroung 2 chapters a year... but I had no real plan for the story aside from some some scenes I've already written... and at this point, it's just a huge bundle of lose strings I can't even grasp properly. Also my writing style has changed so much over the course of this story, that I can't even bring myself to reread the early chapters.... I hate myself for letting it come to that....

what are your writing strengths?

Thats a mean question to ask... I don't think I have a particular strength. I like writing in metaphors and I've been told I am very good in describing scenes and the emotional states and thoughts of characters... So I guess, describing is a strength of me?

what are your writing weaknesses?

TIMESKIPS! DIALOG (besides flirtations) HAVING A F*CKING PLAN FOR A STORY! I almost exclusively write one shots alone, because I just can't think of a cohesive longer plot. I am in awe of every author who knows in the beginning how many chapters the story is probably gonna have and what roughly happens in every chapter. I SUCK AT THAT. I just start writing and stop when I think it's a nice cliffhanger. And the next chapter is picking up at that cliffhanger and ..... looking where the story carries me... that's the main reason why "You don't need eyes to see" is taking so long

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Hmm... I've never written in another language than german. So I don't really have a thought on that. But I have some characters who speak fantasy made up languages, and it's really fun to write sentences and expressions that the other characters or the co author dont know. Especially if you teach them in character this made up language. So.... Its a pain in the ass to read, if you don't know the language but a lot of fun worldbuilding and dialog/character development wise in my opinion.

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

The game triology "Mass Effect" by BioWare. To this day, it's my favourite game. But I've only ever written and published one fic for that fandom, and it's not even finished.

what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

Hands down The Handmaiden . I am thinking a lot about translating it into english, because I like it so much... but the Fandom for it is pretty dead I think....

the address the blond man had given you led to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. you tentatively stepped out of your car, eyes scanning back and forth across the area. it suddenly occurred to you that you could have been led there to be murdered. you could walk back to your car, drive back home, and forget you ever met the british man. but you didn’t, and continued to walk towards a set of steel double doors. 

it was unusually warm for that time of year with not a cloud in the sky as the sun beat down. you drew closer, searching the surrounding lot for some sign of other people. nada. the building stood about twenty feet high, a few small windows placed at even intervals on the concrete walls. definitely felt like a prime murder location. aren’t i here to “die”? you mused, hand closing around the door handle. you breathed in, out, then pulled the door open and stepped inside the dark warehouse. 

it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and you flinched when the heavy door shut behind you. taking another deep breath, you started walking around the room, eyes tracking the catwalks hanging overhead. the only light streamed through the small square windows, dust drifting through the air. the light all joined in the center of the room, one spot free of shadows.

“hello?” you called out, hands clenched into fists by your side. for a moment, there was only silence, and your anxiety was steadily mounting by the second. your heart nearly stopped when you heard a set of footsteps from the other side of the room. then another. someone sounded like they jumped from one of the catwalks. another set of footsteps. and another, until you could tell that there were six people in the room besides yourself. you were frozen, waiting for the mysterious group to make the next move. your eyes were glued to the circle of light as a tall man stepped into view. 

“well well, looks like four was right. you did show.” his voice was relatively neutral, and he spoke fast. he had close-cropped, light brown hair, and a short beard; a few gray hairs sprinkled throughout. he gave off heavy egomaniac vibes. you automatically were suspicious. some part of you was struggling with vague recognition of his frustratingly handsome face. had he been on the news at some point? but you couldn’t put your finger on it and let the question slide. 

“i did. might i ask why you wanted me to come here in the first place?” he tilted his head to the side, crossing his arms over his chest. you could just barely make out the outlines and shadows of more people lingering behind him. you unconsciously readjusted your stance to feel more confident, lifting your chin to look him in the eye. 

“in the simplest of terms, you’re an asset,” he spoke without letting through a whisper of emotion, a small, cold smile on his lips. his light tone was mildly irritating, and you were eager to get to the chase as to why you were there. but you already knew the answer, of course. piles of money and classified statistics would make you useful to any illegal operation. yet you decided to play dumb. letting out a breath through your nose, you placed a hand on your left hip. 

“oh? to what?” you did your very best to fill your words with a mocking lilt, though it wasn’t necessarily convincing, as his eye roll betrayed. the flicker of a scowl crossed your lips before you slid back into a poker face. you heard a faint snicker from behind the man, and then a subsequent hush. they were listening. 

“our crew. we’re just like you. tired of the bullshit. and we decided to do something about it,” the dangerous vibe you found on the group on a first impression seemed to be confirmed. it made you wonder what made each of them an ‘asset’ to this group, and if it was a bigger operation than just an agreement between the people in that room. 

“and we know you do too.” they certainly remember my outburst last night, you thought, cringing at the memory. once you stepped into the cab, it was impossible to think of anything else but what you did and what you were thinking of doing. the rest of the night was spent on the couch in your apartment, analyzing the piece of paper the british man gave you, even dipping into the fbi database with your account to dig up any other information. you were surprised to find there was nothing you came up with except for the location and ownership of the place he wanted you to find. apparently, it had been owned by some big tech company but was later abandoned and left to fall into disrepair. besides that, your hands came up empty of all information and you ended up falling asleep while watching tv, still holding tightly to the note. 

“what exactly am i in for if i say yes?” curiosity from the night before still simmered in the back of your mind, and you were becoming more and more willing to take the leap you spent the last twelve hours considering. ‘death’ in exchange for a life of freedom. it dawned on you that this man must have faked his death to avoid the very government you were employed by. 

“well, this is less of a request and more of an opportunity. you can take it or leave it.” now it was your turn to roll your eyes. your original assumption that the man was egotistical came to mind again. he certainly sounded like some boys you had known in college: rich from daddy’s trust fund, filled with unearned confidence, and owner of a severe superiority complex. 

“wow, you really know how to make a lady feel special.” a louder laugh sounded from the shadows behind the man, and you instinctively flicked your gaze to where it came from. an annoyed, whispered curse (in… french?) followed the laugh, which only made the person laugh harder. 

“ooh, she’s got a mouth on her. nice choice quattro.” the man’s voice was rich and warm with a slight accent to his words. quattro meant four. was that a name? nickname? 

“ANYWAY, you’re gonna be dead in every way, except physical. without the law to hold us, we can do anything.” the man sunk back into a slightly patronizing, dreamy tone, trying to paint a picture of the future you left your boyfriend for. freedom from your earthly responsibilities. but the cynical analyst within you won over. 

“as someone who works for the government, that is highly irresponsible.” you felt almost like a mom scolding her children for cooking up a dangerous activity. the man’s smile looked sharp enough to draw blood, brown eyes growing a shade darker. you had to stop yourself from taking a step back. 

“didn’t bring you here to lecture me about my poor life choices, i hear enough of that from seven. this is your chance to make the mark you have been dreaming of. now, what do you say?” another number. you had to admit, he was highly convincing. he had such sheer charisma it was hard to resist, but you drew together the best argument you could think of and forced it past your lips. 

“i’m not sure… it seems like you are up to some questionable vigilante justice,” you were about to continue your motherly scolding when you felt a person move to stand behind you. their body heat sent a startling chill across your skin. they leaned in closer, mere inches from your ear. 

“love, this is what you have been looking for, right? i promise you won’t regret it.” your breath hitched at the british man’s voice. he didn’t sound as confident as he had the night before, somehow seeming younger without his gorgeous features clouding your thoughts. you tried to fight back against the part of you completely convinced by the two men, but it grew stronger by the second. oh god… am i really going to do this? you took a deep breath in, out. there was no more debate. you knew exactly what you wanted, needed. 

“what do you need me to do?” you breathed out, pressing your lips into a thin line as soon as the words left your mouth. the blond man behind you relaxed, and you could almost see the smile he was most likely sporting. the man in front of you nodded approvingly, rubbing his beard with his left hand. 

“excellent. first step, your name is now eight. i’m one. take a wild guess as to what everyone else’s names are. second, fake your death…” eight? what? the two numbers mentioned before made sense. they were names. your name was now eight, something that you had not expected in the slightest. but you didn’t had time to argue. you listened carefully as one explained how you were going to fake your death, along with finer points about your new fellow ‘ghosts’. a few minutes later, you were caught up. you turned around to greet the others, forgetting that the blond man was standing right behind you. you stumbled, the man’s strong arms keeping you from falling. you could feel the embarrassment rise as he looked down at you. 

“glad you joined up… eight.” your cheeks grew hot with every passing second he had a hand on you. clearing your throat, you reluctantly stepped out of his arms.

“that’s gonna get some getting used to.” you laughed nervously, inwardly cringing at the obvious worry in your voice. he just smiled, raising the ambient temperature by 2 degrees celsius. his gorgeous green eyes were locked with yours, and you couldn’t help but offer him a shy smile in return. you were usually much stonier when it came to complete strangers, but the man’s casual confidence was annoyingly attractive. 

“you’ll catch on quick. you’re family now.” you softened a little at the care in his voice. you broke eye contact and glanced down at your shoes. a beat later, you looked back up, smirk on your lips. 

“then what’s your name, casanova?” 

“four,” he matched your smile, reaching out a hand for you to shake. you took it, praying he wouldn’t notice the sweat on your palm. his hands were rough with callouses, skin hot to the touch. 

“pleased to meet you, four.” you responded, doing a mock curtsy once you let go of his hand. he smiled, winking at you playfully. 

“likewise.”

1. What’s your favorite genre to write?

realistic fiction is just a super comfortable place for original stuff (and high school AUs mmmmmm fkn love those) and fantasy here and there

2. Do you pull inspiration from real life, or do you pull things from other books/fanfiction you’ve read?

all of it!! i haven’t seriously written any original content but all of my og ideas come from my real life with fanfic/book tropes sprinkled in.

3. Do you tend to write one-shots, short stories, or longer things?

i mostly write short stories and one-shots but as i’m (veryyyy slowlyyyy) improving my writing i want to move onto longer, multi-chaptered fics.

4. Do you prefer to write description or dialogue?

i actually really like writing description heheh. i probably write too much of it but oh well. i like dialogue only when i know exactly where the story is going otherwise its really hard for me.

8. How long have you been writing for?

ummm i actually hated all writing in school up until 8th grade when my teacher made all of us write the first couple thousand words of our own original stories. after that i wrote my very first fanfiction and that was it!

9. Do you tend to write more in the morning, afternoon, or evening?

bro i get 99% of my writing done between 11 pm and 5 am LMAO i only write in the afternoon if i’m super into it and have free time

10. Do you prefer to post and update your WIP chapter-by-chapter, or do you prefer to wait until your WIP is 100% finished before sharing it?

so the most recent chaptered fic i posted i did chapter-by-chapter which did NOT work since i ended up abandoning that shit lmao. but i’m actually planning to rewrite the first 15k words and then finish the damn thing because im still super attached to the idea and i want to see it through before i start another one of my long fic ideas.

Hello half valid anon here (i like my nickname 😂). I got through all your fics and they were all great. Right now im just reading a lot of poi fanfics and watch fanvids cause i can't accept that the series is over 😂 --- i know what you mean about fics affecting you negatively. I had this with 13rw (the Show and some fics) everything was so dark and hopeless that i had to stop watching it. I also love to seek out fics where someone is hurt so i can feel my pain through the characters (1)

But i try to read only fics with lots of comfort so it kinda feels like i get comforted as well (dont know if that makes sense). If it makes you uncomfortable or if its unhealthy for you to write about this i completely understand and i dont mean to come of as pushing you to write. I just hope whatever you do will be the right decision for you! As for you feeling suicidal im sorry to hear that. Let me know if there is ever anything i can do to help! I wish i could say sth more comforting but Im not super good with words :( i just hope you have people in your life that support you! 💛

maybe root will grow on you too? Or maybe you can skip her scenes and enjoy John, Harold and most importanly Bear! 😂 Yeah Shaw definately looks really good. She is a bit like Reese minus the caring. At first it seems she doesnt care about anything at all but thats not exactly the Case. There was an episode with Shaw and a little girl (3x5) and i really loved it (have you seen that one?).

I really think Shaw would grow on you (especially since in the beginning she does a lot with John) but then again a lot of her later scenes include Root so im not sure. Yes i love that there were never any romantic undertones with her and John!!

yeah the core four were great. I was so sad when Carter died! :(

i guess everyone sees chemistry different, i think Shoot and Rinch post have great chemistry ☺️

as for John being good with people: YES!! he is always so compassionate and such a great listener as well. I especially like him with children. John and the baby were so cute or John with the boy who offered to pay for him. John + Kids was always a great combination and i wished we would have seen it more often. Also regarding children we did we never got to see a John Taylor scene after Carters death? I needed that!

yes John the badass is also amazing! His character has so many different sides and i love him so much!!

i think Grace Harold was really cute but i dont really see a future for them, i mean he lied to her for so long! but then again they really loved each other so idk maybe they work it out. Im also not into John/Harold/Grace but like you said good for the people who like the ship :)

Oh boi 13rw is so cursed, can't believe I watched all of the 1st season 😬 I remember being afraid of the suicide scene making me uncomfortable but it was so cringe, unrealistic and just bad that I wasn't even that uncomfortable, I cringed when she cut her arms but that's it.

Yeah big mood I project a lot on comfort fics as well. For suicide fics, I think it also depends on how the fics adress the subject. It's something that is complicated to write. If I read a suicide fic with no recovery I'm gonna project but feel like shit. But with recovery, I can project into the recovery as well so it's better ! I read a really good ace attorney fic showing Miles recovering after a suicide attempt, it was thoughtful and didn't fall into the pitfalls of magical super fast recovery/love heals everything, and some lines stuck with me, it was really good and comforting. But yeah if it's just a suicide/suicide attempt then I don't think it's good for me (but sometimes I still read it bc I'm a Dumb Bitch).

Dw you didn't come off as pushing 💜 I'll see how I feel about continuing it or not. I have to figure out if writing about suicide is positive or negative for me 🤔 I mean I'm not portraying John's suicidal crisis as a positive thing, and he reaches out to Harold, and considers he might get better so I don't think it's bad for me ? Another problem is that I have a tendency to drop my wips to write a new shiny idea I get, and then I never finish anything gkgkffjfjf I dropped the suicide fic for the body horror fic which I dropped for the time loop fic, and there's also the hanahaki fic I started last year but I haven't touched in months, plus a bunch of random shit floating around OneDrive lmao someone stop me

Ikr the crossing hurt me so much. But thinking about it takes me back to my careese days and my first fics lol. I feel like the death of one of the core four + the abandonment of the library really alienated me from the show (did I already say that before ?). And here I'm gonna shamelessly derail from Carter to the library bc boiii do I have a lot of feelings about the library !! And you're here, talking about poi, so you're the perfect subject to throw these feelings at. This post really says what I feel about it (I'll put the link at the end as well if you wanna read it after you're done with this l o n g reply). It was in a way its own character and its forced abandonment/destruction really hit me (fucked me up when they broke that glass board). It says something that it's one of the few things I remember from S3 along with Carter's death and 4C. I loved it a lot, it was a cornerstone of the show. It was a safe place, a home for Harold and John (and Bear !). I love when they're together in there, I love this cracked glass board, this yellow stained glass in the windows !!! (at least I assume it's stained glass ?), these lights, Bear's cushion, the whole cozy/safe/isolated feelings, just absolutely everything. And yeah later they have the subway, idk when it's introduced I don't remember if it's early enough for me to have watched it. And maybe it's nice, I can't judge rn. But it's like trying to give me a new MC after a MCD, make him as nice as you want I'll be clutching the previous MC until I die. Gkfkfkff I went overboard and off topic but I just love the library ok

Best/worst title? Best title: i still like “at the end of many worlds.” i weirdly still like “Blackbird” too even if it has nothing to do with anything... Best/worst first line?

Best: Keith & Lance's Island Adventure. ok the title is bad but this line? this really sets the tone for whole fic. you know what youre getting yourself into here.

When Pidge invited Keith to a fully-funded graduation party aboard the Holt family boat (“the smaller one, anyway,” she’d said), this is not exactly what he'd pictured: three of them standing on a wobbly dock, packed bags at their feet, sky cloudy and gray, while the Holt siblings stand on a little ledge off the back of the boat and deny entry.

Worst: ive got two for this lol

at the end of many worlds: even i have to read this a couple times to figure out what i was trying to say. at least you know youre in for pain...

Keith’s mother shows up to interrupt movie night often enough that, this time, Keith almost doesn’t realize anything’s wrong. Almost, because she’s silhouetted by the movie, but she’s clutching her arm and panting for breath, and in the thin edge of light around her he sees a wet and vibrant red.

Divergence: because all your friends being dead is EXACTLY like losing at dodgeball. yeah, theres a reason i abandoned this one.

Hunk always hated playing dodgeball. Not because he was bad at it--though he was--but because he always ended up the last one standing, and therefore the only target for the entire other team. It was due to a tendency to hang unnoticed in the back, he knew, but that didn't change the sickening, empty feeling of looking around and realizing there's no one left but him, and there's no way he can win. Only wait for the inevitable.

This, Hunk decides, is a lot like that, only, like, a billion times worse.

Best/worst last line?

Best: The Pining-Plant. there are a few others that were cute too but this one is also good out of context so

And then the pod swishes open and he's scrambling to catch Pidge as she stumbles out. She clings to his arms to steady herself and his heart swells.

"Falling for me again, huh?" he asks, and she groans loudly.

"Let me go, I'm getting back in the pod," she says, and he laughs. He doesn't let go, and neither does she.

Worst: if im bad at titles, im worse at endings. most are bad. i suspect the ending to “Rest” is terrible but i cant bring myself to even open that shit again so: Believe Me. if weather were a recurring theme in this fic, itd be fine, but as is its just... a weird note to end the fic on lmao

Hunk rocks back on his heels. "We aren't counting this as our official first date, right?"

"I dunno," Keith says, and now he smiles at the rain instead of frowning. It shows no sign of easing up, but whatever—they're soaked anyway. "This seems pretty good to me."

“...All right.” If nothing else, it’ll make a good story. And, Hunk had to admit—he’s pretty happy with how it’s turned out, rain and all.

more than i expected! considering ive been in grad school all year!! i wrote about the same amount wordcount-wise in 2017 which i spent only half in school so. idk how i managed it.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

the anonymous fic was a surprise but im not gonna talk about that lol. otherwise... nah, its all been my usual stuff.

What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

blackbird, probably. i like working on that one. summer heat was also fun, id sort of forgotten about it bc it was a zine fic but coming back to it, i really liked it. likewise with third time’s the charm. and i like t6p a lot even if i kinda hate drawing for it :’)

"Yeah," Keith says, and maybe he should've prepared something to say, that's a thing people do, right? Hell, he's winging it. "I know we can't stay here on Earth forever, 'cause we're paladins, and there's still stuff out there we gotta do. And I know you probably want to stay because this is your home—but you're my home, and if we gotta go, at least you'll have me, good or bad." He grins crookedly. "Or rocket science. Whatever happens, I'll be there."

Hardest story to write?

well t6p gets a shoutout, but its not the writing thats the hard part for that. uhhh ive struggled with parts of blackbird. i remember k&l’s island adventure giving me a LOT of trouble, i think i posted late lol

Easiest/most fun story to write?

anything short uhhh for all the infinite realities, i kind of just sat down the other day (actually i was in bed but) and was like “im gonna write this” and then in the morning i just sat down and wrote it in one go. i dunno if id call it fun, but it was easy. t6p is super fun to write but, as mentioned, drawing it sucks.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

no... my perceptions probably have shifted but not due to anything i wrote in particular. i did talk myself into liking allurance with a prompt fill, though, but im not sure that was 2018...

Most overdue story?

all the infinite realities lmao. at the end of many worlds needed that happy ending. and another shoutout to t6p, because thats been going on over a year and im still nowhere.

does posting my abandoned wips count? ive still got some of those hanging around... blackbird was a bit of a risk bc my last longfic was written while i was unemployed and out of school, so like i had the time for it, and now i kinda dont. still chugging tho. ateomw b/c of all the death but it turns out i really like writing whump woops. and writing any sort of kissing always feels like a risk bc i suck at it but im getting better lol... i hope...

What are your fic writing goals for next year?

write more! finish things! do more sheith! i really want to work on this sheith longfic i came up with the other day... but i want to get blackbird over with first.

So, my friend got me into TMA lately and as I'm finishing season 4, I wanted to rate the entities based mainly on whom I'd like to work for.

The Buried: 8/10, not my fave but can't deny the charm. Who doesn't want to rest in peace, am i right? all cozy and wrapped in loving earth? Wrap me up in tight spaces and lull me to sleep, boss! The Corruption: 0/10 that's just gross. grosser than scary. Ew. The Dark: 6/10, terrifying, dumb but terrifying. Classic. Not my thing but freaks me out. Mad respect. Wouldn't want to work for them much but still would abandon my current job if there was an offer.

The Desolation: 7/10, shiny and warm. Fire is damn pretty. Not a fan of the followers though. And from what I know so far, sounds like it involves a lot of group projects with other followers. Not a fan of that. Still. Shiny. The End: 8/10, again, so basic it's a classic and who doesn't want to die sometimes? Respect but no enthusiasm. Sounds dull to be honest. But I have a weak spot for betting and light gambling so we can work something out. The Eye: 6/10, creepy, boring, requires knowing things. I'm not a fan of knowing shit.

The Flesh: -40/10, get fucked. Gross. Terrifying. SO GROSS. EWWW. NOPITY NOPE.  It's possibly I would rather stick with my current job, that's how unimpressed I am. Not even scared, just ew. The Hunt: 2/10, boring and while scary also requires too much effort. I dont wanna work for them. Sounds like they require doing things. Hiking is fun and all but running through woods and chasing people? Not my thing. The Lonely: 8/10, after thinking about it (and doing several online quizes that all side me with this one) I've changed the rating for higher. It's not that exciting but it's an easy job. But kinda pathetic. Ooooh, you're scared of being alone? Have you tried being with people? Way fucking worse. Would totally quit my job for it, ngl.

The Slaughter: -10/10 Men being men. Not a fan. War is overrated. Still better than flesh though. Wouldn't quit my current job for it though. (But ask me right after another customer yells at me and I might change my mind.) The Spiral: 12/10 THE FUCKING DOORS. Amazing, brilliant. Confusion all around. Cheff kisses. Please hire me. My CV is somewhere. My cover letter is not important. Seriously - hire me. I'm confused all the time, I will happily share it. The first statement we've ever heard about door that weren't there before? My first reaction was: of course I would go! How could I resist?! Magical door! Brilliant. Also, empty corridors are better than crowded corridors. (fuck i am the lonely aren’t i.) The Stranger: 10/10. I DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE PEOPLE WITHOUT THEM BEING SWITCHED. I always thought it was unfair that others do. PLEASE HIRE ME. Or let me work as someone else who is already hired. I honestly don't care.

The Vast: 8/10 if the sea, -10/10 if the space. -100/10 if vertigo. Sky? Gross. Terrifying. Should stay where it's at. (Far away from me.) The Web: 2/10, sometimes clever i guess. And better spiders than like maggots and shit I suppose. But still. SPIDERS. And also like clever shit. Not a fan of thinking. Couldn't work for them.

Since I haven’t written anything new, I was going to just skip this like I did last week. But then I thought: if there’s one thing I have plenty of lying around - it’s wips. So, instead of sharing fresh new writing, please enjoy me shaming myself with a random snippet of a never-gonna-finish-it fic.

Today: Black Sails, Silver/Flint or Silver&Flint, shapeshifter!John. (what?)

He looks up at Flint, his eyes huge and blue.

Blue eyes always worked best for him. There's just something more startling about them, especially when they're this bright and they shine from his darker coloured features. It catches attention, makes him look better, makes the begging for his life easier when he's faced with the English men. He looks less like a Spaniard that can't be trusted.

His eyes were brown while he served on the ship, but he only met Flint briefly and in the dark. He's pretty sure the man wouldn’t remember such a detail.

"Perhaps we will be friends by then?" John asks in the most innocent, naive voice he can muster.

Another week with no fresh writing, so please enjoy an old, barely started fic (aside from this it has like one more scene and several other beginings because I can never decide.)

Please enjoy this WIP about how bad evil pirates wanted to drop Silver’s body on Flint’s doorstep but failed to actually find Flint. (Or how John survived because James was busy in another town and Thomas lies better than anyone gives him credit for.) ~900 words

Pedro once told John that pain means you've messed up. If your legs hurt after a jump from a fence it means you've done it wrong. You've picked a fence too high or jumped wrong and you needed to be smarter about it next time. If you get caught and beaten up when you steal means you've done it wrong and need to be more careful. Or perhaps stop stealing altogether.

John liked to argue that pain could also mean you were hungry or that someone simply wanted to hurt you, but Pedro claimed it still meant you've messed up. You didn't get food or didn't get fast away from the people that wanted to hurt you. As John grew up he realized it was not always quite so simple but it stuck with him regardless, and at this moment he thought he had to mess up quite severely.

He was feverish, everything was both heightened in its annoyance and muted in clarity and he could no longer easily tell how the time was passing or where they were going. His leg was on fire, shooting pain up and making him howl over every bump in the road. Sometimes the men watching him would punch him quiet but those bruises were merely faint echoes of the agony radiating from his leg.

He was not sure how long they've had him when they finally hauled him out of the wagon. He squinted at the sudden brightness of the sun, howling in pain a second later as they pushed him to the ground.

'You should leave him on the doorstep like a sick dog. Crawling back to its master."

John had no idea what the man was talking about, he barely had any idea who they all were even. All he wanted was to finally pass out and die, so his flesh could keep rotting without him forced to witness it.

One of the men kicked him in the side, to rouse him and he cursed the bloody pirate and-

And then he remembered - they were bringing him to Flint.

He tried looking around because this humiliation was too much. To be at Flint's mercy like this. But the fever was going on for too long and John was hurting way too much, he knew he was not going to make it and what was the point of pride in the last moments of your life?

He wished he could see his captain again, just before he had to go.

"What is the meaning of this?" someone asked in a tone so different from the pirates surrounding him that everyone looked towards the man standing by the house.

He was tall and sounded educated and he most certainly was not James Flint.

John's laugh was wet with blood, but he could not stop it.

The bald man standing closest kicked him again.

"We 'ave no buisness with you. We're looking for a man named Flint. He lives here."

"He most certainly does not. I live here and I assure you I am not named 'Flint'." He said the name with a distaste yet utter lack of familiarity that made John wonder how far into the land he was taken.

"Regardless, I fail to see the reason why any of this would warant treating the obviously hurt man in such a fashion!"

That finally put a dent of doubt in Silver's captors.

"Leave this man immediately or I shall retrieve the town's magistrate. This is not a civilised way to deal with disagreement and I will not tolerate such a thing on my land."

"You've never heard of Captain Flint?"

"I hardly am a seaman, I do not know many captains, sir."

The men started looking at one of their own more and more often and John remembered it was his idea. His supposed knowledge of Flint's whereabouts that brought them all here after they came into the tavern John worked in and tried to unravel the story he once sold to the world.

"Shorter than you, redhead," the man tried desperately.

"There is no one living here but my cousin and I, and I assure you, sir, neither one of us is any kind of a captain."

"You fucking dumb shit," one of the man swore, spitting on the ground, far close to John for his comfort.

They all seemed to be deflating as their anger shifted towards one of their own.

There were sounds of horses coming from up the road and suddenly the place was far more crowded as they were joined by a few more men from the town who must've seen their unhappy trip down the main road.

"Who are you? What is the meaning of this?" someone yelled and John could no longer keep track of who was shouting and who was moving but the figures above him moved and the sun fell on his face again for a while before someone picked him up.

This is going to really hurt, he thought vaguely.

"I've really messed up this time," he mumbled.

"It's not so bad, John," one of the men caring him replied and John hoped he was either very right or very wrong because either way it would mean the pain might eventually stop.

He swayed between the men who carried him and between one sway and another, he fell limp in their arms.

I'm not saying setting something on fire would calm me down, but I think it would warm me up and you have no idea how calming that is.
