"Have you ever kept someone else's secret for so long that it became your own?"
Perry Dufner | 30 years old | Kind - Complacent - Responsible
Son of Andrei Dufner, Perry has become somewhat of a makeshift leader of the house. He's the opposite of his father who is lazy, careless, and quite childish in mind, which means it's up to Perry--as the oldest--to take the helm when things get dicey.
But sometimes...sometimes he might not want to, because whatever is eating him up inside is threatening to come out.
Appearance: 6'2. pale skin, dirty blonde hair, almost brown in color. Usually wears a knitted brown pullover and beige pants. He's described as approachable in both face and personality, and has kind hazel eyes. English-American.
Likes: movies, cleaning, writing schedules and making lists
Dislikes: disorganization, when people talk badly of his father (only he can do that), Detective Everett/Eva.
Notable aspects: Perry is extremely kind...so kind that it's almost off-putting to some residents in Emberwood. Despite their dislike for the rest of the house, though, Perry is the most respected. Whenever Andrei is forced to have to actually communicate with the outside world, it's usually through Perry.

Author's Note: Just a bunch of random things and conversations I think would happen in Dufner house. And some incorrect quotes. I'm sorry Perry, I've given you my most chaotic MC as a partner 😅
Cass Wants to Garden
“You think I can convince Andrei to get me a bunch of gardening supplies?” Cass asked suddenly. Fera looked up at him from her spot on the couch. “I don’t know, maybe?” She shrugged. “Why?” Alex asked groggily. “If I have to be stuck here, I’m going to do something I enjoy doing.” Cass grumbled, propping a leg up on the table. He stood abruptly. “Where’re you going?” Fera called after him. “To find Perry. I’ll ask him about it,” his voice echoed through the house as he marched away. “You think he’ll get anywhere?” Fera asked Alex. “Nope,” He said through a yawn.

Adonis: Here's a fun Christmas idea. We hang up mistletoe, but instead of kissing, you have to FIGHT whoever else is under it.
Perry: Adonis, no.
Alex/F: Mistlefoe
Perry: Please stop encouraging him.
~~~
F: What's a word thats a mix between 'sad' and 'mad'?
K: Disgruntled, miserable, desolated-
Baz: Smad :D
K: *shaking their head while questioning their life choices*
~~~
Alex, just waking up: What time is it?
Adonis: I don’t know; pass me that saxophone and we’ll find out
Adonis: *Plays sax loudly and extremely out of tune*
Dani: WHO THE FUCK IS PLAYING THE SAXOPHONE AT TWO IN THE MORNING
Adonis: It’s 2 am
~~~
Perry: Violence isn't the answer.
Adonis: You’re right.
Perry: *sighs in relief*
Adonis: Violence is the question.
Perry: What?
Adonis, bolting away: And the answer is YES!!
Perry, running after them: NO-
Tiger Woods draws Jordan Spieth, Henrik Stenson at Valspar
Tumblr media
One by one, the millennial upstarts are getting their shot at playing with living legend Tiger Woods.
As Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy can attest, playing with a revived Tiger Woods in a PGA Tour event may be a wicked awesome experience, but the fan frenzy surrounding any grouping that includes the 14-time major winner can also be frustrating and exhausting for even the best golfers in the world.
After Tiger-mania at Riviera drove McIlroy to the aspirin bottle and led Thomas to shrug it off (“You get used to it,” he said after the second round of the Genesis Open), this week it’s Jordan Spieth’s turn inside the crucible at the Valspar Championship. The world No. 4 will try to tune out the hysteria and attempt to win his 12th tour title; Henrik Stenson rounds out the marquee threesome.
As usual whenever and wherever Tiger appears, all eyes will be on the Woods-Spieth-Stenson trio, which has a 12:46 p.m. ET tee time off the first tee on Thursday and a 7:56 a.m. start on Friday off No. 10.
Tiger and Spieth are playing together at Valspar. It's the first time they've been paired since Phoenix in 2015, when Tiger tied a club pro for last place. They were the reigning Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year when they first played together, at Torrey Pines in 2014.
— Sean Martin (@PGATOURSMartin) March 6, 2018
As the tour swings back to Florida after a quick stop in Mexico, Thursday will mark the Valspar debut of Woods, who had a week off after finishing 12th at the Honda Classic and needs competitive reps ahead of the Masters in April. Spieth, for his part, beat Patrick Reed in a playoff for the tourney title in 2015.
It will be McIlroy’s first Valspar as well, and he’ll navigate the track in the company of Justin Rose and Gary Woodland. The Ulsterman will once again be on the opposite side of the draw from Woods (7:45 a.m. Thursday off No. 10, 12:35 p.m. on the first), which is to McIlroy’s liking, since his stint with Woods at Riviera gave him a headache.
In another star-studded group, reigning Masters champ Sergio Garcia will start the Valspar at 7:56 a.m. on No. 10 on Thursday/12:46 p.m on off No. 1 on Friday with Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar. Garcia is coming off a T7 finish at the WGC-Mexico Championship while Scott’s 2018 has been a disappointment so far.
PGA Championship 2017 Live Golf Online Coverage
The 99th edition of the PGA Championship 2017 is chock full of storylines. As the first round of the tournament plays out at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, much of the attention will be on Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama.PGA Championship 2017
Spieth, of course, is attempting to win back-to-back majors this year. He won the British Open in spectacular fashion last month, as he rallied in the final holes after losing the lead to Matt Kuchar and earned the Claret Jug. That victory gave Spieth three-fourths of the career Grand Slam, and if he can win the PGA Championship, he would join the game’s all-time greats.PGA Championship 2017 Live
Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tiger Woods are the only players in the game’s history to have won all four majors, and the 24-year-old Spieth would become the youngest to achieve that goal.
Spieth believes that he has accomplished the most difficult part of winning golf’s Grand Slam.
“Getting three legs of it is much harder than PGA Championship getting the last leg, I think,” Spieth said, per Mike McAllister of PGATour.com. “Although I’ve never tried to get the last leg, so it’s easy for me to say. We’ve had three in two years and so, I mean, if we just continue with the same process, get the right breaks and driving ranges are in play then, I’ve got a good shot at No. 4.”
Spieth’s reference to the driving range was his shot on the 13th hole of the final round of the British Open. After an off-target tee shot that landed in the driving range, Spieth scrambled on that hole to an incredible bogey, and he surged to the championship after that hole.
McIlroy has won the PGA Championship twice, having PGA Championship come away with the title in 2014 when he won at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, and he was also victorious in 2012 at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
In addition to his past success in the tournament, McIlroy has done quite well at Quail Hollow. He has two tour victories there, and it would be a surprise if he were not in contention. Additionally, McIlroy played well in the final three rounds of the British Open after struggling in the opening round.
“This is a week I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” PGA Championship McIlroy said at his Tuesday press conference (h/t Jeff Ritter of Golf.com). “I think once you go back to a place where you do have great memories, all that starts to come flooding back to you and it makes you feel good about yourself. That’s sort of how I feel around here.”
Matsuyama has played sensational golf this year, and he is the PGA Tour’s leading money winner with more than $7.7 million earned. The Japanese is also the leader in FedEx Cup points and is coming off a spectacular victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week, in which he shot a 61 in the final round to beat runner-up Zach Johnson by five strokes.
Matsuyama got off to an excellent start as he made a 52-foot birdie on the first hole and added another birdie on the second.
While the tournament is not going to be won in the first round, it pays to get off to an excellent start in the PGA Championship. The last 17 major winners have been under par after the first round, according to Justin Ray of the Golf Channel.
As the first round plays out, golf fans know that they have four full days of top-notch competition ahead of them.
2017 PGA Championship tee times and notable groups at Quail Hollow
There’s one major question on everyone’s mind heading into the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina: Can Jordan Spieth do it?
By “it,” of course, we mean complete the career slam of winning all four championships. Only five men — Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods — have done it in golf history. Spieth, coming off a win at The Open, has come close before at the year’s final major. He came in second to Jason Day in 2015. Last year, he finished well off the pace in a tie for 13th, though. Can he close the door on the career slam? He’ll tee it up on Hole 10 with the other two major winners of this year — Masters champ Sergio Garcia and U.S. Open winner Brooks Koepka — at 8:25 a.m. ET on Thursday morning.
That’s the star group that will grab the most attention, but there are plenty of other intriguing groups. Playing right behind that star-studded pairing is another strong group: Jason Day, world No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson. Each one of those three will be looking for his second major.
Defending PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker will start in the afternoon, beginning play at 1:25 p.m. from Hole 1. He joins five-time major winner Phil Mickelson and 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner. Just after that group comes a threesome of young stars: Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler tee off at Hole 1 at 1:35 p.m.
Quail Hollow has hosted an annual tournament on the PGA circuit since 2003. From 2003 to 2008, the tournament was sponsored by Wachovia. For 2009 and 2010, it was known simply as the Quail Hollow Championship. Since 2011, it’s been the Wells Fargo Championship. It’s usually drawn a strong field: McIlroy won there in 2010 and 2015, and Fowler won in 2012. James Hahn, the 2016 Wells Fargo champ, tees it up with K.T. Kim and Greg Gregory on the first hole at 9:10 a.m.
Here are all of the tee times, listed in Eastern Time:
Tee No. 1
7:20 a.m. — Grayson Murray, Rich Berberian Jr., Peter Uihlein
7:30 a.m. — Adam Rainaud, Tony Finau, Fabrizio Zanotti
7:40 a.m. — Younghan Song, Dave McNabb, Charles Howell III
7:50 a.m. — Sung Kang, Wesley Bryan, Dylan Frittelli
DEMO
FORUM POST | PINTEREST | CHARACTER INTROS
(3/12/2023: chapter two updated.)
genre(s): small-town, romance, action, sci-fi, mystery
He leans forward, growing serious and looking at you right in the eyes. "I have a place. A place where you can serve your sentence without being stuck in a maximum security cell in some lab. Because where they will take you, it won't be an ordinary prison. Not for people of your caliber."
You sit backwards, a churning heat settling in the pit of your gut. Everything comes crashing down, falling over you at once. This man is proposing you live with him and other possible criminals. Criminals with powers like...you.
How the hell did you end up here?
Emberwood is a small-town romantic interactive fiction WIP described as X-Men meets Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
When you get into an unexplainable accident that results in severe casualties, you're forced to relocate to the small town of Emberwood to serve your sentence in Dufner House, owned by a reclusive scientist who also happens to be the town's pariah.
It's either that or jail.
That's where you find out you're not the only one born with a unique ability that shouldn’t be possible. In fact, the eccentric Dr. Dufner is the caretaker of six other people with equally mysterious circumstances as you. And they are now your roommates—or more accurately, fellow inmates—for the foreseeable future.
But when oddities around town start cropping up and signs of a powerful threat lurk in the shadows, the truth of your past comes into question, and you begin to wonder how exactly you and everyone else in Dufner House got these powers.
Seems like your stay in Emberwood is going to get a lot more complicated.
— features.
Customize your characters appearance and sexuality and mold their personality as you see fit. The text and your character’s actions/reactions change based on your stats.
Romance and/or befriend seven characters with different personalities and backstories, six of which are gender selectable.
Have an option of 3 different abilities your character can possess (with the high likelihood of more being added later)
Get to know the town of Emberwood and the secrets of your past. This town is hiding many layers, will you care enough to find out? Or will you remain blissfully indifferent until your time is served?
Work on controlling and strengthening your power (or don’t) and discover all the things you can do.
Take down a looming threat that’s come to Emberwood.
…And maybe listen to a badly told Dad joke or two
— the characters.
Perry Dufner [M] — the dutiful son of Dr. Dufner, Perry is the makeshift leader in place of his chronically lazy father. Perry is kind and described as approachable both by appearance and personality, there’s not one unlikeable bone in his body. As the oldest in Dufner House, Perry tends to be the leader in most situations, especially due to his knack for charming the pants out of everyone. But still, people this good have to be hiding something, right?
Kind - Complacent - Responsible | Character Post
Finn/Fera [gender select.] — If there’s one thing F is, it’s the life of the party. With a penchant for flirting and a knack for getting into the biggest trouble, there’s never a dull moment with F. They’re aware of their own greatness and will make sure everyone knows it too. Still, their outgoing personality may be charming to some, while horribly obnoxious to others. In other words, F is an…acquired taste.
Energetic - Flirtatious - Outgoing | Character Post
Alexander/Alexandra “Alex” [gender select.] — Alex has probably spent more time napping than existing. Rivaling Dr. Dufner as the most lazy in the house, you can likely find Alex trying to catch some Z’s as much as possible. With a monotone voice and a preference for indifference, Alex has become accustomed to watching from afar, finding pleasure in mischief and gossip. They observe rather than engage, but don’t let their nonchalance fool you; Alex doesn’t mind a little chaos.
Lazy - Mischevious - Indifferent | Character Post
Kade/Kiera [gender select.] — The second oldest in the house, K isn’t much for fun and games. They spend most of their time in the library, avoiding the rest of the more energetic ones of the group (F). With a calm exterior and sharp wit, K is a good palette cleanser after a day of chaos from the rest of the house. Still, it can be hard to get along with them due to their lack of filter and sometimes brutal honesty. You can never really know what they’re thinking, and you get the sense they prefer it that way.
Studious - Reserved - Honest | Character Post
Daniel/Danielle ‘Dani’ [gender select.] — Dani is one word: angry, and they’re not shy about letting you know. You sense they don’t like you, but it seems like they don’t like anyone. Stoic and serious, befriending D seems like the most impossible outcome out of this whole thing. It’s quite obvious D has a lot of baggage, and their resentment comes from a dark past. Maybe, with enough effort, you can make a crack in the coldly harsh exterior of theirs….maybe.
Stoic - Intimidating - Loyal | Character Post
Noah/Nora [gender select.] — N is the last one you meet, and the most distant. Quiet and reserved, they don’t talk much…or almost at all. You can’t tell whether they actually like Dufner House or would rather murder everyone, but it’s not like you’ll get an answer either way. It doesn’t seem like N has any opinions of you; you’re just another face living in a house they want to be free from. Maybe you can change that.
Quiet - Melancholy - Uneasy | Character Post
Detective Eva/Everett Morales [gender select.] — E Morales is the detective of Emberwood and the main face of the town, right behind the mayor. They’re deeply embedded into the workings of the place and ever so curious of what goes on in mysterious Dufner House. You’ll be lying to them, and that’ll only make them more determined. Maybe a good thing? Or maybe not.
Determined - Suspicious - Respected | Character Post
Emberwood is my first IF and my first foray into Choicescript and interactive fiction telling. As usual, if there are any errors or typos, please let me know and I'll be sure to fix them. Thank you and hope you enjoy <3
An Emberwood Halloween: 2022 Special
Halloween has rolled into the sleepy town of Emberwood in the shape of a festive carnival. You and the Dufner residents (and E) have decided to take a break from the craziness in Emberwood for some well deserved reprieve.
Dress up in a costume (or don't) and hang out with the group or your favorite RO. Remember: be sure to have fun and enjoy the lighthearted atmosphere because it does not last :)
Features:
Go ferris-wheeling with Alex
Play a stall or two with Perry
Go on a swing ride with K
Go pumpkin carving with N
Get lost in a corn maze with Dani
Grab a bite to eat with F
Go to a haunted house with E
Or engage in a very mature and adult round of hide-and-seek with the Dufner residents, but be careful: you can lose.
(This is non-canon bonus content and isn't part of the main storyline.)
RELEASE: PLAY THE SPECIAL
Some notes:
Though the individual routes take place in a non-canon point in time in which romantic feelings have been established, I have added options that aren't so...overtly romantic? Of course, it is still romance-coded, but for those who do not enjoy romance, I feel it can still be enjoyable in some way or the other.
The stories are short and sweet (at least for me), as well as the group route. The group route works in a way that you can make one choice and lose, or you can go through more than one scene before you lose. You may or may not interact with the characters depending on what you choose. It's really just a fun side story for those who do not want to play any individual character scenes, but for full transparency: the individual routes have a bit more meat in them, mostly because some of their backstories are sprinkled in the conversations (very briefly, but yk). The group route is pretty brief, mostly because I accidentally deleted a third of it in writing like last minute and wanted to rip my hair out.
ALSO: the mc is…slightly pre-set. I was not thinking of diverse options but more of just how to propel the story forward. In future specials, I think I’ll stick to bold/shy and different types of MCs, but as this is my first, I decided to go with my gut haha
there’s really no trigger warnings except for quite a bit of cursing (and f-bombs) and F’s route has to do with eating. So there will be mentions of food and eating ! Please be wary of that! <3
As always, as I do not have beta testers (yet) if you find errors, typos or formatting problems or any of that sort, please let me know and I'll fix them asap. This is just a fun side piece I did, so please don't take it too seriously!
Hope you enjoy <3
What's the bathroom situation in dufner house?
Like, does everyone have their own en-suite or are there just multiple shared bathrooms?
Idk, I'm just rlly curious.
I personally think the most grating part of cohabitation is bathroom sharing, like when someone takes too long and stuff, it's fun to imagine how this group interacts w each other through those little moments
So MC has their own bathroom out of pure luck. Perry also has his own bathroom, but not all of the rooms have a joint bathroom. K has their own as well but Dani, Alex, N and F sacrificed a joint bathroom for a bigger room (MC’s bedroom is on the smaller side compared to the rest of the house). Dani’s bedroom also has a hearth sort of feature, which is fun.
Dani is impatient and usually wakes first so they get the bathroom to themselves. Alex doesn’t care much, so it’s usually F and Dani bickering over bathrooms (they usually just end up using K’s or Perry’s). Perry is happy to share a bathroom and isn’t really greedy even if it is his private bathroom. There is a guest bathroom downstairs (that was featured in the Halloween special)and N uses that one frequently so luckily the bathroom situation isn’t too bad. Unfortunately, the guest bathroom is pretty small…
What’s funny is that they bicker more about the kitchen. Like they honestly hate having to work around the kitchen with someone there (especially K lmao). And who gets to use the tv in the living room since there’s no TVs in their rooms (F plays games on their desktop). Edit: and sometimes likes to dust off the old TV in the basement to play on their game system (but Andrei tells them not to keep it in their room as he wants to encourage them to not stay in their rooms much). Forgot to mention that haha
The house is pretty old, and Andrei saved it from it being abandoned so many years ago. It truly feels like a maze in there sometimes lolol
If anyone is interested, maybe I’ll draw up a map of the rooms and such to give everyone a better look at what Dufner House looks like in my head! (I have a very distinct image of it I wish I was an artist ahhh)
happy Halloween to those who celebrate! And to those who don’t, happy Monday!
Currently in Emberwood:
E is on the hunt for kids egging people’s houses. They’re very tempted to stake out and throw the culprits in the lake but that’ll probably get them fired and a feature in the Emberwood Gazette….lol
The Dufner House is quiet. People don’t usually stop by the house anyway (due to how creepy it is) but Andrei has settled with leaving a big basket of candy at the edge of their driveway (to deter them from coming in any further). Alex has been spooking superstitious locals by being a black cat and following them around. What a menace.
Perry has decided to spend the night watching Hocus Pocus with K and F, who would much rather watch a real horror movie but poor Perry is too sensitive lol
The rest of the house have settled into their normal routine. Though it’s Halloween, they haven’t been invited to any parties…not like they’d be able to go without supervision (Andrei). Poor housemates. Emberwood really is wary of them 😔 lol
Can you describe using one word how the ROs got to Dufner House?
Dani: escape
K: public
Alex: trapped
Perry: son
N: reported
F: alone
It makes no sense out of context but that’s on purpose 😹
Not sure how big the beds are in the Dufner House and if they are even allowed to spend the night in a room that isn't theirs, but... What would the LIs do it were to turn out that MC usually sleeps on the side of the bed they usually occupy? Who would insist that it is their side of the bed and who would have no problem giving it up?
So thats funny you ask that because dating in the Dufner House is such a foreign concept, Andrei wouldn't actually know what to do. He'd wonder if he should be enforcing rules or if that'd be too restricting on them since they're all adults. I don't think he'd impose any rule in staying in each other's room, just be prepared for many jokes and teasing at your expense lol
No one has dated within the Dufner House so that'd be a fun conversation if MC decides to romance one of them lol
The beds are all twin-sized! At least when they first get there, but they can request bigger ones and hope that Andrei has it in the house budget ha, I haven't actually thought about whether any of them specifically requested it so I guess it'd be canon that they all sleep on twin-sized beds....(they're all tall too, poor ROs)
Perry: would have no problem giving it up and would even go as far as making sure MC is comfortable: "how many pillows do you sleep with? Do you listen to anything? Do you need a nightlight?" He has great bedside manner and such a people pleaser lol
K: Doesn't sleep anyway but they do have a very strict night routine and schedule. They'd bicker for the sake of bickering and insist its their side, but then they'd tell MC to just take it. It wouldn't actually bother them, I don't think, but they'd bring it up in a teasing/joking manner and tell MC that they "are now in their debt."
Alex: Doesn't care so they'd give it up easily, just don't wake them up lolol Having 'sides' in the bed doesn't matter with Alex because by midnight Alex will be all over the bed. They are a definite bed hogger. One leg will be on one side of the bed, an arm hanging off another side. Also a blanket hog...great cuddler, though
Dani: Dani would insist it's their side and win the argument, only for MC to be woken up in the middle of the night with Dani looking over them saying, "Just take it."
MC: "Are you serious? You woke me up for that?"
Dani: (shrug) "I felt bad."
N: N would give up easily mostly because the very idea of sharing a bed would have them anxious in the first place. They'd actually offer MC to choose, and when MC chooses the side they'd usually sleep on, they'd keep to themselves and be like, "Ah...alright."
F: F would be like, "We don't have to choose let's just cuddle <3" lolol but they'd let MC take the side and they'd be alright with their side of the bed.
I find that most of the ROs are pretty accommodating and flexible when it comes to stuff like this, but some of them won't be quiet about it lol They'll make sure MC knows they're doing a nice thing (jokingly, of course).
As a bonus, E will insist they need to sleep on their side. And will win.
I just thought of something great; A MC who communicates almost exclusively through memes and references. I imagine the only ones who would even kind of understand wtf MC's saying would be Alex and F. And when MC realizes the others don't understand/are confused? Yeah, they're never talking normally again lol
And imagine Alex making the confusion worse by telling everyone a different meaning. It's not even the same if you ask them a second time. And they start communicating exclusively through memes when MC's around.
Then there's F, who also likes confusing people but is more willing to translate than Alex is. The three of them would form some kind of group that just no one understands AND is constantly messing with people. MC jokingly says it's a cult
I can just imagine someone says something abt how only Alex or F understands MC and MC just goes "lmao, yea it's clown to clown communication, friendo. You should learn it sometime😄"
~K simp anon
lolol that’s so funny actually. Players who play an MC that’s close to Alex and F is so fun because it could really like three peas in a pod ahah especially when romancing one. Honestly, Alex and F come as a pair and they’re Certified Trolls so doing that would definitely be up their alley 😭
What’s funny is that they’re all pretty young, but characters like K and Dani have been in the Dufner House so long that they’re actually pretty behind with pop culture. Add their personalities to the mix and they’re like old, out of touch elders😭
As far as ‘cliques’ go: it’d be Dani/K/Perry and Alex/F/N, if I had to separate them 😭 N is just a floater but since they bump heads with Dani often, they’d hang out with Alex and F more lolol
Wait, what is the beef between N and Kani? (context: fuck/marry/kill game ask)
If I just miss some info on blog or the answer is too spoilery - sorry, just ignore this ask
(the demo and Halloween special are amazing! :))
Hey don’t apologize! I mentioned it really briefly.
They just tend to butt heads quite often and have very different approaches to the way they’re living in Dufner House. Dani and N argue the most (then it’s Alex vs N). But Alex and N is more Alex finding enjoyment in bothering them lol Dani and N actually fight
The beefs in Emberwood (that you guys know of) are:
Lena Crown (journalist) vs E
E vs Perry
Alex and Dani vs N
There’s other beefs but that will be revealed more in the story lolol
thanks for the ask! 🫶
