Y’all. My bestie just told me they’ve been watching a lot of gay 70’s movies and so I decided to be a little rapscallious and recommend goncharov to them. They came back an hour later a whole new person.

This clip shows one of the positive stories as an outcome of the Big Buddy initiative.  Big Buddy is a nationwide programme for young boys (7 – 14 years) based on the idea positive male role models in their lives help them to grow into good men and decrease risky behaviours, echoed by Santrock (2010).  In New Zealand, many boys are raised by single mothers or have circumstances placed upon them, resulting in an absent father figure.  Big Buddy NZ screens male adults who volunteer to be a companion and do ‘guy things’ with their little buddy.  Once three months of vetting and information training has been passed Big Buddy matches a boy with a buddy who has similar interests.  This is a great scheme and helps the psychosocial development by helping curb angry outbursts adolescent boys experience as well as doing physical things and problem-solving cognitively.

New Year, New Blog
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is off to a great start this new year!
For the last two years I have dedicated this space to sharing my thoughts and news on positive development; specifically focusing on children’s rights during and after armed conflict (child soldiers in particular), elephant conservation efforts and maintaining positive thinking to achieve your goals.
I will continue this blog, but have some ideas on how to take it in a new direction.
Up until now I have maintained a fairly regular schedule of posting news, links, videos, pictures and messages every couple of days. At times this has been a bit challenging. I struggle to find new and relevant things to share and you may have noticed that not everything is always recent.
This year I will be trying a new format. Every week I will publish a post of the “weekly roundup”. In it I will share the news and links I found throughout the week. This way everything is recent and up to date. I will still post videos and pictures as I find them. I will also try to write more of my own content.
I am looking forward to developing this space and having more meaningful interactions. Thank you for your support so far and keep your eyes open for the new layout soon!

A Short Break...
The holidays are now upon us and during this time we often reflect back on the last year and look forward to the new one.
2015 proved to be a significant year, with many milestone achievements in the field of human rights, sustainable development and animal conservation.
2016 will be an exciting time for further development and the opportunity to make good on the promises we made to ourselves and each other.
I will be taking a short break to enjoy the holiday season and will return in the new year with some new ideas on the direction of this space.
Until then, remember that
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” - Aesop
Be kind to one another and have a warm and festive holiday season.

Highlight of Organizations and Projects
For the next couple of months I'd like to try something a little different. In my research, and through social media, I have encountered so many great organizations and meaningful projects and movements surrounding children's rights and elephant conservation.
During October I will highlight the organizations and projects dedicated to promoting and preserving children's rights. My area of expertise is in children impacted by armed conflict and post-conflict development. My hope is that this will give better insight and knowledge of the countless individuals and organizations working towards stopping the use of children in war and helping with efforts towards post-conflict reconstruction, reconciliation and peace.
Then during November I will highlight the organizations and projects dedicated to elephant conservation. This will include efforts to stop the illegal trade of ivory.
Please join me these next two months in celebrating the positive work being done for children and elephants. I certainly cannot cover all the individuals, groups, NGO's and movements; so if you know of any others please share!
