There was tremendous adversity experienced by everyone who helped put together the memorial service for JP.

Tomorrow we are doing the monthly homeless outreach.

We were set 🔙 by numerous nuisance enemy shrapnel 🔥 fire, including two cars that completely broke down on the side of the road.

Grabado con el productor Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne), la nueva y conmovedora colección de canciones de Nash es una oda a sus raíces, una meditación sobre el amor y la familia, de la belleza y el dolor que pasa de generación en generación, en los lazos que nos unen en los buenos y los malos tiempos. La música se remonta a ese rock de la tierra con el que Nash creció (Petty, Springsteen, Seger), con esas guitarras imponentes y las melodías hímnicas, y letras casi cinematográficas, pintando paisajes de los hombres y mujeres del día a día que ponen lo mejor de ellos para vivir con dignidad y amor propio. Algunos personajes provienen de las propias historias familiares de Nash, otros son prestados, pero todos tienen en común esas característica distintitva del medio oeste americano, y sus sueños, triunfos y fracasos representados con ternura y empatía. Sería fácil mitificar los lugares de donde proviene desde el beneficio de la distancia y a toro pasado, pero ‘Ozarker’ presenta sin embargo una mirada honesta, íntima, resistiendo la urgencia de romantizar el pasado y sin perder su humanidad y su corazón.

Hijo de un predicador baptista y una artista, Nash alcanzó primero la fama en Europa, construyendo una base fiel de seguidores con varios aclamados discos que le llevaron a firmar con el sello británico Loose. Cuando comenzó a conquistar al público americano, dejo su hogar adoptivo de Nueva York por Dripping Springs, en Texas, donde construyó su propio estudio en un rancho, abrazando un sonido más espacioso y psicodélico que le hizo aterrizar en algún punto entre Neil Young y Pink Floyd. Rolling Stone le llamó “un maestro de las texturas sonoras” y Mojo se refirió a él como “un visionario del folk-rock”

Tras la muerte de Tom Petty, Nash regresó a la franqueza y la precisión artesana de discos como ‘Full Moon Fever’ o ‘Damn The Torpedoes’, y de ahí el salto a ‘Born In The USA’ y ‘Night Moves’ fue un paso lógico, regresando a ese sonido con el que creció. Aquello le llevó además a reflexionar acerca de su propia historia. Alquiló una casa en Blanco River, cerca de Wimberley, Texas, y empezó a trabajar solo con una guitarra, un viejo teclado Casio, una vieja máquina de ritmos y una grabadora de cuatro pistas. La idea era forzarse a mantenerse simple y honesto, a evitar las rutinas o perderse en escribir con urgencia. El resultado es un exuberante muro de sonido que resulta ‘vintage’ y moderno a la vez, repasando 50 años de rock de raíces americano en una fiera vorágine sónica.

THE LONG RYDERS son considerados como los fundadores del Alt-Country, un género musical que no existía antes de que explosionara con tanta fuerza en los años ochenta a través de grupos como Green On Red, Dream Syndicate, the Bangles y los mismos The Long Ryders. Ellos son un eslabón clave en la cadena de lo que se conoce como Americana, emparentando a los Flying Burrito Brothers de Gram Parsons con Wilco y los Jayhawks. Afortunadamente para nosotros, The Long Ryders vuelven a cabalgar juntos el pasado 19 de febrero de 2019, cuando lanzan su primer álbum en tres décadas, ‘Psychedelic Country Soul’, y su gira de reunión posterior.
