a flag for those whose scoliosis affects their respiratory function based on this scoliosis flag! the pink stripes represent the lungs and chest wall muscles and the blue stripe represents air/breath.
my scoliosis distorts the anatomy of my chest, which reduces my lung capacity and weakens my chest muscles. i've been struggling a lot with my breathing problems recently so here's my reward lol.
flag id: a flag with 9 stripes, with the fourth, fifth, and sixth being one-third the size of the rest. in order, they are faded green, soft teal, very light yellow, light red, very light blue, light red, very light yellow, soft teal, and faded green. end id.
banner id: a 1500x150 teal banner with the words ‘please read my dni before interacting’ in large white text in the center. end id.

So the school where I work has dropped the rhetorical bomb on me this week (first week of school!) that we have to move the school garden due to expansion. That garden has been my passion project at the school since the beginning of the pandemic, and it’s been pretty much the only thing keeping me sane for the past two years through the bureaucratic/political bullshit. I don’t know how we’re going to salvage even half of it on such short notice. After everything else, I think this might be the final straw.
So anyway, I might try to go back to art/wrtiting/etc. after this school year. If anyone here is still with me, I hope I’ll find a way to get you pumped up! Maybe by 2025, I’ll be able to make some money on stuff that doesn’t ruin my health and will to live.

Y'all know by now I'm asthmatic.
I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 and V coughs in the shower. My hound dog heard a female cough, sits up, looks at me, sees I'm not coughing and lays back down.
The dog knows I'm asthmatic

I have been accused of putting "a damper on things" by my mum for not wanting to be around when my brother is vaping in a room and holding my breath or wearing a mask when I enter.
My mum, brother and I are asthmatic. I've never smoked or vaped. What can I do? Leaving the room isn't always an option, especially if he vapes during family meals or gatherings. He won't vape outside because he says it's cold.
I'm trying to protect my health. I don't see why I have to suffer through secondhand or thirdhand vape smoke just to "be social" when he vapes during stuff we're doing in a room as a family. Everyone in the family but me has chosen this.
Beyond holding my breath, wearing a mask or sitting near an open window (which usually draws complaints and people then close it), I'm at a loss at how to protect my health from the vape chemicals I inhale.
My brother is trying to quit smoking and now uses e-cigarettes, vaping regularly. It's great he's trying to quit and isn't smoking tobacco but e-cigarettes don't give him a free pass to vape around people who don't want him to.

I. Polycythemia Diagnosis:
A. Clinical Assessment:
• The diagnostic process for polycythemia commences with a thorough examination of medical history and physical condition to detect signs indicative of erythrocytosis, assess potential risk factors (e.g., smoking habits, family history of thrombosis), and uncover underlying causes.
• Special attention should be given to symptoms of hyperviscosity syndrome (e.g., headaches, dizziness), skin manifestations (e.g., erythromelalgia), and signs of organ enlargement (e.g., splenomegaly, hepatomegaly).
B. Laboratory Tests:
• Laboratory investigations are crucial for diagnosing polycythemia and understanding its underlying mechanisms. Essential tests include a complete blood count (CBC) with differential, examination of peripheral blood smear, and measurement of serum erythropoietin levels.
• Additional tests, such as JAK2 mutation analysis, bone marrow biopsy, and molecular testing for other mutations associated with myeloproliferative neoplasms (e.g., CALR, MPL), may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis of PV and rule out alternative causes.
C. Imaging Techniques:
• Imaging methods like ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be used to evaluate organ enlargement (e.g., splenomegaly, hepatomegaly) and identify potential underlying factors for secondary polycythemia (e.g., renal tumors).
II. Polycythemia Treatment:
Management of polycythemia aims to alleviate symptoms, lower the risk of thrombotic complications, and prevent disease progression. Treatment approaches may vary depending on the underlying cause and severity, often involving a combination of strategies:
A. Phlebotomy (Venesection):
• Phlebotomy is the primary treatment for PV, involving the removal of excess blood to achieve target hematocrit levels (<45% in men, <42% in women).
• Regular phlebotomy sessions usually start at diagnosis and are adjusted based on individual response and disease activity.
B. Cytoreductive Therapy:
• Drugs like hydroxyurea, interferon-alpha, and ruxolitinib may be used in PV patients who do not respond to or cannot tolerate phlebotomy.
• These drugs work by suppressing abnormal hematopoietic proliferation and reducing the risk of blood clotting, with hydroxyurea being the most commonly used and studied cytoreductive drug in PV.
C. Antiplatelet Therapy:
• Aspirin and other antiplatelet drugs are often prescribed to PV patients with a history of blood clots or other high-risk factors to lower the risk of arterial thrombosis.
• Aspirin is usually started at low doses (e.g., 81 mg daily) and may be combined with cytoreductive therapy for better thromboprophylaxis.
D. Treating Underlying Conditions:
• Management of secondary polycythemia focuses on addressing the root cause to relieve hypoxia-induced erythropoiesis and prevent disease progression.
• Interventions may include oxygen therapy for patients with chronic respiratory problems, correction of hemoglobin disorders or other genetic issues, and surgical removal of erythropoietin-secreting tumors.
E. Lifestyle Changes:
• Lifestyle adjustments such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, and proper hydration are vital for improving clinical outcomes and reducing cardiovascular risks in polycythemia patients.
Doctors suggest undergoing regular health checkups for the early diagnosis and treatment of polycythemia. You can choose to undergo a regular full body health checkup at Jaslok Hospital Mumbai, which is one of India's best hospitals for the early detection and management of blood disorders.

Clinical Presentation and Diagnosis of Pulmonary Fibrosis
The gradual progression of pulmonary fibrosis presents a range of symptoms reflecting the compromised respiratory system. A persistent cough, a constant companion; shortness of breath, an unyielding adversary; and fatigue become indicators of a respiratory system under attack. Diagnosing this intricate condition requires a thorough examination of medical history, a careful physical examination, and the use of advanced diagnostic tools. Lung function tests, chest X-rays, and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans provide crucial insights into the extent and severity of lung involvement. In some cases, a lung biopsy serves as a conclusive step, confirming fibrosis and ruling out other causes. The integration of cutting-edge technologies, like artificial intelligence in image analysis, holds potential in improving diagnostic accuracy and facilitating early detection.
Treatment Approaches and Challenges
Given the absence of a universal cure, the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis involves a nuanced strategy focusing on symptom management and slowing disease progression. Medications such as corticosteroids and immunosuppressants are employed to control inflammation and mitigate scarring. The complexities of pharmacological interventions, ongoing research into new drug targets, and personalized medicine underscore the evolving nature of pulmonary fibrosis therapeutics. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs aim to improve overall respiratory function, providing support to patients facing the wide-ranging implications of the condition. However, in the face of relentless progression, lung transplantation may be considered as a last-resort measure, highlighting the formidable challenges in managing pulmonary fibrosis. Exploring emerging treatments, including regenerative medicine and gene therapies, reveals possibilities for reshaping the therapeutic landscape for pulmonary fibrosis.
Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis: Addressing Challenges
Living with pulmonary fibrosis is a journey marked by physical and emotional tribulations. The chronic nature of the disease and its relentless progression necessitate robust medical management and the cultivation of resilient support systems. Patients are encouraged to adopt a holistic approach that goes beyond medications. Regular, tailored exercise becomes a cornerstone, fostering resilience in the face of respiratory challenges. Nutrition plays a significant role, offering a potential avenue to enhance overall well-being amid the difficulties posed by pulmonary fibrosis. Understanding the psychosocial aspects of living with a chronic respiratory condition reveals the intricate interplay between mental health, coping strategies, and overall quality of life.
The Role of Comprehensive Health Checkups in Pulmonary Fibrosis
In the multifaceted landscape of pulmonary fibrosis, the importance of full-body health checkups becomes a crucial consideration. Comprehensive health assessments, covering pulmonary function tests, imaging studies, and overall health evaluations, serve as invaluable tools for early detection and proactive management. These routine screenings not only contribute to timely diagnosis but also assist in monitoring progression and tailoring interventions to individual needs. Beyond the pulmonary context, these health checkups shed light on potential comorbidities and lifestyle factors influencing the course of pulmonary fibrosis, offering a holistic perspective on patient well-being.
Full body checkups at Manipal Hospital Yeshwantpur Bangalore are considered to be among the finest in the country to detect and treat conditions like pulmonary fibrosis early.
