Wish people would stop researching why we're autistic and instead researched why so many of us have IBS, lactose intolerance, over active bladders, etc etc etc.

Honestly? If something helps you, use it. You don’t have to be chronically ill or disabled. If it helps, you can use it.
I used to force myself to stand while showering, shaving, brushing my teeth, folding laundry. Why though? If sitting makes the task easier, I’m allowed to do it.
I used to love going on long walks and even hikes before I started feeling so weak and out of breath all the time. The experience was soured by my chronic pain. And you know what? I started looking for a large stick to use as a cane every time my friends take me on a hike. They laugh at me. So what? It makes the experience better for me.
I don’t have to wear tight clothes that make me feel like I’m suffocating. If I look 20% less attractive in my comfy sweater and baggy pants, who cares? Who am I trying to impress? Isn’t it better to be 20% more comfortable instead?
Why force myself to overeat if it makes me sick? Please pack up the rest for me so I can eat it later. It’s not that I hate your cooking, I’m respecting my body’s needs. Why force myself to stay awake when I need rest? Let’s continue having fun tomorrow, when I have the brain capacity to do so.
Respect your body. Respect your limits. I know it fucking sucks when you’re not able to do the things you could do in the past anymore. It sucks losing that life quality, probably forever. But you can make your suffering a bit more bearable. Please do so.

Students with food intolerances deserve a safe, free lunch too. Failing to provide that because you think it’s unnecessary is just ableism. “Eating this food causes them pain because their body can’t digest it, but it’s not life threatening so we don’t need to accommodate it” is such a bad take. Yes, let’s just make them sick every day instead of giving them the option of safe, free foods to eat. So poor kids will have to choose every day if they’re going to starve themselves or if they’re going to be in excruciating pain the rest of the day when they’re trying to learn. Makes no sense.
Furthermore, I don’t think people realize what food intolerances entail. It’s not just, “oh, eating this food gives me a stomach ache.” It is often caused by the body’s inability to break down the sugars in the food because the pancreas and/or the small intestine doesn’t make enough digestive enzymes. People with food intolerances can have a number of disabling conditions, especially because of malnutrition and malabsorption. I am dependent on digestive enzyme supplements, as well as vitamins because I can’t eat and/or get the nutrition I need to thrive without them. This is disabling. Yes, even if it’s not going to immediately kill me if I eat the wrong thing.
Don’t put people in places where they’re required to work, promising that food will be provided for free, and then only provide foods that will make them sick.

Shoutout to all the people with chronic digestive issues or just digestive issues in general.
Y'all are fucking valid and absolutely seen too. We can talk about this topic and we should especially cause so many people out here being ashamed or some stuff and not going to the doctor for this thing. I love all of y'all and you're awesome.

I love how sometimes potatoes just try to kill me but there’s no hint of when it might happen and it’s not frequent enough for me to really remember so I foolishly fall into a sense of security and eat those mashed spuds on the regular like I’m playing Russian roulette with a potato canon aimed at my heart.

SOMEONE TELL ME WHY LIQUID NUTRITION/TUBE FORMULA AND HOMEHEALTH COMPANIES MAKE THEIR PACKAGES/BOXES SO DAMN HARD TO OPEN?? Like your customer base is malnourished /chronically ill/disabled people and y’all had the AUDACITY to make the boxes so hard to open that even my able bodied, male family members struggle to open it?? I know it’s expensive (god bless insurance actually paying for something for once bc there’s no way I could afford over 9 boxes a month at 72 dollars a box) and they’re trying to prevent theft, but I can guarantee that nobody who sees these shipments of giant liquid nutrition boxes is going to try and nab it.

if anyone who struggles to eat because of digestive issues has words of advice on how to eat more (*for the purpose of having energy + gaining weight), i'd love to hear them.
i have weird yet mild (undiagnosed?) stomach issues, probably due to the small hiatal hernia my GI found. 90% of what i eat triggers the symptoms- my best guess is that physically filling food is the common factor. other than that, my symptoms are basically just acid reflux and the effects of having it chronically for ~9 months 24/7.
im on medication, which lessens most of it, and lemon honey tea has helps. surprisingly, i can eat cherry tomatoes by the handful and the last time i had a banana it was awful and triggering. so if your advice can be found on the first page of a 'foods for acid reflux' google search, uh, no thanks lol.
i also have adhd and an inconsistent taste palate, so im hesitant to start any structured diet or to plan meals days in advance. (but its not completely off the table)
