How to Donate to the Domari Society of Gypsies in Jerusalem
As many of you may know, the Domari community in Palestine is suffering alongside native Palestinians in the genocidal campaign headed by Israel.
Though we do not know much of the Domari's struggles in detail, I can only imagine it is the same extent as the Palestinians' struggles.
The Domari Society was founded by director Amoun Sleem in 2000 and since then she and her staff have done incredible things for the Domari, including providing resources and education to women and children.
On the Domari Society website, there is information on how to send donations via bank transfer, but considering that their main avenue may not be the most accessible to share and donate, I am making this post providing a step-by-step guide on how to donate to the Domari Society of Gypsies in Jerusalem.
This method works only if you have a PayPal and/or Xoom account (Xoom is owned by PayPal so if you only have PP, you can still donate.)
Step-by-Step:
Click this [link] here. It will take you to Xoom's page for sending money to Israel (Jerusalem is occupied by Israel, so it must be through them). Make sure you are signed in to either Xoom or PayPal.
Enter a minimum amount of 35.66 shekels (minimum 10.01 USD) to send. Click (Send Now) to progress to the next page.
Tumblr media
3. Confirm information on screen and click (Next).
Tumblr media
4. Select (Bank Deposit) and click (Next).
Tumblr media
5. When selecting a bank, click (Other) and it will bring you to a page where you must enter the IBAN number of the bank you want to send money to. The IBAN for the Domari Society's bank is IL040176380000002503877 (copy and paste this exactly). Confirm that the bank is Mercantile Discount Bank Ltd and click (Next).
Tumblr media
6. Enter in contact information. It is as follows: First Name: Domari Last Name: Society Address 1: Shua'fat, Derech Shua'fat 10 City: Jerusalem Phone Number: +97225324510 Email: [email protected]
Tumblr media
7. Enter any information required and choose your payment option. On the last page, confirm the information listed and if everything is correct, click (Send).
Bank transfer may take a few days, but congratulations! You just donated to the Domari Society of Gypsies in Jerusalem. Know that your contribution will go towards the betterment of the Domari in Palestine.
Also, most information is found on the Domari Society's website, so if you wish to confirm that the donation is legitimate you can check the bank details here: [link]
Please share this whether you donate or not, it could mean life or death for Dom under occupation. May we all see a day where our people are safe. Te aven baxtalo 💙❤️💚

So since it's Romani history month, I want to share a poem by Henry Lawson. A man that was/is huge in Australian literacy history but never noted for his Romani heritage despite writing about it. Here's one of my favourite poems of his:

The Palestine/Israel conflict really fills me with rage. The creation of the state and the horrific acts surrounding it.
If I have to hear one more person practically using the fucking holocaust as an excuse for genocide and destroying homes, destroying lives... I will blow my lid. My paternal family faced the fucking holocaust. They ran for their lives. We lost our culture, our identity, everything. We lost it all. My family faced the horrific treatment of Rroma in white allied countries to survive. I don't know anything about extended family. I don't know ANYTHING about us. I don't know if we have any family past my great grandfather left... We don't know if any of his siblings, or cousins, or any of those he knew survived. We don't know if we are all that is left of us. All I know is that we were... We are... Rromani.
All of this, the familial trauma from the holocaust, the generations of lost identity and culture and the decades of anti-rromani shit my paternal family have dealt with would fucking NEVER excuse taking land from those who are living there, who have lived there for generations, and killing hundreds of thousands.
Where else were Jewish people supposed to go, is what I've seen. Motherfucker, where were WE SUPPOSED TO GO? Well, we went back into fucking oppression. We don't have a 'homeland' for white people to throw us back to to get rid of us. And we would fucking never want that.
I love my jewish siblings. We are stronger together. But I will never stand with Zionists. I will not allow the atrocity that tore my family to shreds to be used to excuse genocide.

Saw a post where I went, hmmmmmmm, not inaccurate but the tone is off
followed by a detailed, thoughtful discussion of why the tone was off
and was about to reblog that for the commentary before I realized it was by medievalpoc.

I feel like when discussing Dracula and what Dracula as a person represents people get bogged down by it being one thing. Dracula represents fear of the "East" and immigration. Dracula represents the fear of Jewish men. Dracula represents the fear of homosexuality. All at once.
"But he fought the Ottomans-" "But in his rant about his ancestors-" "but Mina-" its a metaphor dumbass, and one that combines many things from the perspective of a white Irish guy at that.

I was just thinking that maybe the gypsies are there not out of the evil of their heart but because Dracula pays them and pays them well. In the book, the association in The Evil Side comes from anti-gypsy racism in people's minds and Jonathan's worldview (and already fearful situation) more than actual Evil Works on the gypsies' part.
Dracula needs them, he needs help with certain tasks and everyone else in the region knows him and fears him. The gypsies are also feared by society and pushed away. They are also an errant people so it is convenient for Dracula to use them for transportation and well, they may need the money. This may be an easy and well paid job. And sure, this Dracula guy is weird and they don't really trust him, he may be what people say he is but he is paying and they've lived worse. So far, he hasn't been worse to them than any other nobleman or even countryman.
I may have more to say on the possible association between two marginalised people, about bonding in an adverse society but not now because it's long and I'm busy. But an idea there for people to consider.

I jokingly said ONCE that I was the person fact checking fanfiction and now someone in a group chat I'm in has a bug up their ass about my extire existence thinking I'm out there calling people out in fic comments.
Dude I'm fucking autistic sometimes I just Google stuff I see in fanfiction because I'm fucking curious and want to know for myself how something works/if it works.
Sometimes I get excited about stuff and want to share information and people think I'm being an asshole and they need to "put me in my place".
It sucks when you think a space is safe to joke and vent and be yourself and someone proves you wrong by saying you're a garbage person who doesn't deserve the space you take up on the planet.
I've had a really shitty go of it lately so this definitely helped. Good on you person from the group chat. Just barely hanging on, in deep desperate emotional turmoil, on a sewer slide watch where my friends cannot leave me alone without fear that I Will Not Make It Through The Night.
But no, you jumping down my throat for using humour to cope in a way that is HURTING ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, really helped with all that. I'm cured.

Holocaust education failed when people went away thinking that the Holocaust
a) Was a surprise
b) Wasn't preventable
c) Can never happen again.
They also seem to think that they would be the heroes saving people and fighting back in the scenario, but y'know....those people were a tiny minority. The majority of people truly believed that Jews and Rroma were a disease on their society and wanted them exterminated. And yes, they believed these things with sugar-coated social justice terms.
Jews weren't Christ-killers anymore, they were "greedy outsiders who have dual-loyalty and corrupt the economy, disenfranchising the poor."
Rroma weren't devil-worshipping heathens anymore, they were "wandering people with no morals who prey on vulnerable people and trespass."
Killing and torturing disabled people wasn't exorcism anymore, it was "furthering society by eliminating the burdens on it" and "sparing those poor souls the horror of living" and "advancing scientific research."
Many progressive and leftist and liberal people ended up being complicit and even active members of the Nazi party because of the way the xenophobic and bigoted ideologies of the parties were painted in "progressive" vocabulary.
Think about how many times you've uncritically reblogged and shared posts about the "global elite" or "secret pedophile ring" or "X country eliminated Down Syndrome" or "scientists are so close to finding the autism gene" or "religion is poison" or "overpopulation".
You are not immune.
Not everyone may have personally manned the gas chambers, but they certainly didn't stand in Hitler's way.
Holocaust education isn't enough until it teaches that.
