May 31st, 1911 Belfast, Ireland. . With the firing of a rocket and the pulling of a switch thousands of onlookers held their breath. It seemed inconceivable that this massive vessel could move. She sat on her keel for what seemed like an eternity until, finally, the inconceivable happened. As the hydraulic rams gave her a slight, but gentle push, the R.M.S TITANIC slipped down from the place of her berth and into the river Lagan. There was no great fanfare as she was launched. No great fireworks display, speeches, or even the traditional bottle of champagne. A yard-worker famously said "They just builds em and shoves em in!" . And shove her in they did.... . Aided by 22 tons of soap, tallow, and oil the Titanic slipped gracefully into the oily waters of the Belfast, river lagen amid the cheers of thousands. . Within 62 seconds the Titanic sat afloat on her own for the first time since construction began 3 years earlier. . And as a young William McQuitty watched her from the bank, the world could little know the future ahead.....nor could they care..... for the longest, tallest, and soon-to-be most beautiful ship the world had ever seen, was finally afloat. . The stage was set for her date with Destiny... . . . Her Night To Remember. . . . #thisdayinhistory #Titanic #Belfast #Ireland #History #titanicbelfast #slipway #anniversary #Storied #Treasures #storiedtreasures88 https://www.instagram.com/p/CeQGmdDuFGT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

THE AREA IN MALAHIDE NEAR THE SLIPWAY
The slipway is mostly used by the Malahide Sea Scouts and Malahide Yacht Club and I use it sometimes to take photographs but today the section that I wanted to use was very slippery so I avoided it.
THE SLIPWAY IS VERY SLIPPY ESPECIALLY WHEN WET The slipway is mostly used by the Malahide Sea Scouts and Malahide Yacht Club and I use it sometimes to take photographs but today the section that I wanted to use was very slippery so I avoided it. Back in 2008 Cllr Eoghan O’Brien (FF), said the pier and slipway at St James Terrace in Malahide has ‘fallen into a serious state of disrepair’. The…
