Day 18: September 3

Quarantine Diaries: Day 5

This morning Geoff was up before anyone else! He had to go meet the moving truck at the house. Due to COVID only one person is allowed to be there - just like when they came to Ottawa to pack us up. The girls and I woke up, we had breakfast and relaxed. I started getting some of our things together like laundry and taking things out of the drawers and packing it back into our suitcases. We played Shampoo Bottle Bowling, Garbage Can Basketball, and Hide & Seek!

We spend a lot of time looking out the window 😂. We see lots of birds and planes go by! Maybe it reminds her of our old house. We used to watch airplanes and birds almost daily, right out the front window!

This morning Grover knocked over my breast pump and it broke. I calmly called Geoff and told him. For anyone not familiar with pumping ... this is a disaster. Claire is picky. Sometimes she wants boob, sometimes she wants bottle. But if you try to give her boob when she wants bottle ... 😬 she will lose it (and vice versa). I’m explaining that because it adds to the “this is a disaster” thing. Amazon PRIME says it will take 2 weeks to get the part. In my head I’m already thinking, “okay, if this is the end of my pumping journey - I have enough milk sitting in a freezer at the Yellowknife airport to feed Claire until she is at least 6 months old”. BUT - the chances of getting mastitis would be super high if I just quit pumping cold turkey and NOBODY wants mastitis!

Anyway, Geoff being the amazing man/hero/problem solver that he is ... calls the CO-OP here after a quick google search and it turns out they rent breast pumps! It’s less than $60/2 weeks but you also have to spend $80 on the disposable parts (that your body comes into contact with). He then decides to call/look online for availability at Walmart and Shoppers just to see what the pricing would be. Sadly you can’t just buy the part that broke, in store. This man, this AMAZING man ... saves the day by arranging pickup of a new breast pump and running back to the hotel for me all before the next time I needed to pump. #impressed

Geoff had to go back to the house while the movers unload. While Annabelle was having a nap Claire and I had some one-on-one time. While being in the hotel I have also opted to nap while Annabelle (and Claire) naps but took advantage of the time today to just be with Claire.

Once Geoff got back to the hotel, Annabelle and I took Grover for a small walk. On our little adventure we came across a tiny dead bird. Of course my sweet little Annabelle says “oh no, little bird” 😭. I’m not really sure what she understood - but she knew enough to say “oh no”. I told her the little bird was “gone” and she seemed sad. I think it must have flown into one of the windows at the hotel? Besides that, she enjoyed finding rocks and chasing Grover.

Claire has been growing so fast! She is super strong and she surprises me every day! This is her doing a little tummy time earlier! She surprisingly doesnt mind it and when she gets tired she rolls to her side!

Tonight was Buy 1 Poutine, Get 1 50% Off at Coyotes. So of course we got poutine! We both tried the Crispy Buffalo Chicken Poutine, which was ... AMAZING!
