8 Steps to Follow After Water Damage in Home
Tumblr media
Water damage in your home can be a distressing experience. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a leaky roof, or a natural disaster, the aftermath of water damage requires immediate action to prevent further destruction and restore your home to its previous condition. In this article, we will guide you through eight essential steps to follow after water damage occurs in your home.
8 Steps to Follow After Water Damage in Home
Water damage in a home can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. However, taking immediate action is crucial to minimize further damage and ensure a smooth restoration process. Here are eight steps to follow after water damage in your home:
Step 1: Assess the Safety
Before entering your home after water damage, ensure that it is safe to do so. Check for any visible structural damage, electrical hazards, or signs of potential harm. If there are any concerns about safety, it is crucial to wait for professionals to evaluate the situation and give the green light to proceed.
Step 2: Stop the Water Source
Identify the source of the water damage and take immediate action to stop the flow. Shut off the main water supply if the issue stems from a burst pipe or plumbing malfunction. If the water damage is caused by a leaking roof, tarping or covering the affected area can help prevent further water intrusion.
Step 3: Document the Damage
It's important to document the extent of the water damage for insurance purposes. Take photographs or videos of the affected areas, making sure to capture the damage and any valuable items that have been impacted. This evidence will be useful when filing an insurance claim.
Step 4: Contact Your Insurance Company
Notify your insurance company about the water damage as soon as possible. Provide them with detailed information about the incident and the documentation you have gathered. They will guide you through the claim process and inform you about the coverage and reimbursement options available.
Step 5: Remove Standing Water
Standing water can cause further damage and promote mold growth. Use pumps, wet vacuums, or buckets to remove the standing water from your home. Be cautious while performing this task, and consider enlisting the help of professionals if the water volume is significant.
Step 6: Dry Out and Dehumidify
youtube
After removing the standing water, it's crucial to dry out the affected areas and reduce humidity levels to prevent mold and mildew growth. Open windows, use fans, and employ dehumidifiers to facilitate the drying process. Remove wet carpets, furniture, and other belongings to expedite the drying and prevent further damage.
Step 7: Clean and Disinfect
Once the affected areas are thoroughly dried, clean and disinfect all surfaces to eliminate any remaining contaminants. Use appropriate cleaning agents recommended for water damage restoration. Pay close attention to hidden spaces such as wall cavities and crawl spaces, as they may also require cleaning and disinfection.
Step 8: Restore and Repair
After completing the necessary cleaning and disinfection, it's time to restore and repair the damaged areas. Replace damaged materials, such as drywall, flooring, or insulation, following the appropriate guidelines and regulations. Hiring professionals for restoration work can ensure a thorough and efficient recovery process.
Conclusion
Experiencing water damage in your home can be overwhelming, but by following these eight steps, you can mitigate the damage and begin the process of restoration. Remember to prioritize safety, document the damage, involve your insurance company, remove standing water, dry out the affected areas, clean and disinfect, and finally, restore and repair. Acting promptly and seeking professional help when needed will help you restore your home to its pre-damage condition.

YES HIGH-SEA ADVENTURES!!! I love the idea of them coming across a kraken or something of that nature
Sally's at the front of the line like "FOR GLORY" meanwhile others are freaking out or trying to keep the ship(and themselves, but mostly Eddie) stable
Also the bit with Eddie and Frank😭<3 so good
Sally, Julie, Frank: throwing themselves at the kraken
Eddie: attempting to back them up, failing <3
Wally: getting snatched by said kraken
Barnaby: holding onto Wally's ankle with one paw & holding onto the ship w/ the other
Poppy: dragging Howdy's deliriously sick self into a corner for "safety" & screaming
#and the ship's actual crew are the ones getting shit done <3#listen when there are three available fighters#& one things they can bring down a kraken with his bare hands#another is just wildly hacking at it & is mostly just damaging the ship#and only the third is actually doing anything but her magic is fire-based so thats horrifying on a ship#yeah. yeah#& then eddie of course also gets snatched bc he's an easy target#so now barn is holding onto both wally and eddie while biting the guardrail as an anchor#trying to yell for help lmao#wally's staff is downstairs so he cant cast & the situation isnt dire enough for him to tap into home's real power#home is patiently watching and waiting and eating popcorn#eddie's screams of fear are very entertaining <3#wh fantasy au#rambles from the bog#of course i imagine that wally Does have to play the 'home' card#its a small-ish ship! a brig! not a lot of crew needed to operate that babe!#and since barnaby has his hands full / howdy is borderline unconscious#eddie is (affectionately said) useless / wally doesnt have his staff / etc#home is needed!#in my mind wally's boot comes loose and he goes weeeee right into the water in the kraken's grasp#and a minute later a 'second' - black - kraken (home) completely bodies the real kraken#and wally climbs over the side perfectly fine but very soaked#barnaby: ARE YOU OKAY??? WHAT HAPPENED#wally: home took care of it @:]#sally: what does that mean#wally: they took care of it @:]#everyone: *terrified yet impressed silence*#and then wally passes out bc letting home out like that takes an almost lethal amount of energy & effort <3

out of curiosity would anyone be interested in custom digital banners for fic and/or project covers (like the project covers on Nano's website project tracker thing?)
I'd probably do like $5 'commissions' through my ko-fi or smth

I don’t remember if I’ve posted this on here before, but the sentence “of course you’re lonely, it’s 2am” has genuinely done good for my mental health. Like no, it’s not that I’m doomed or that everyone hates me, it’s just that I’m tired and everyone’s been asleep for a couple hours

basement is flooding 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 :(((
#my most favorite magical amazing silliest place in the universe (my room) is in the basement :(#it’s not like Actually flooding but Someone (we don’t know who. might be our new neighbor.) turned on the hose outside and just. left it on#and the water leaked into our basement and into the walls and shit. there was a huge pool of water in the furnace room or whatever it’s#called and. there water literally underneath the floor. like literally water is leaking through the floor boards and i found out when i sat#on my rug and realized i was getting all wet. like i literally walked across my room and water was seeping through the cracks of the floor#water was EVERYWHERE#in like over half the basement. the floor of the main area is ruined i think and holy shit apparently like the inside of the walls or#foundation or whatever is so like wet and soggy that we might have to take out the entire wall that separates my room and the furnace room#and if we have to do that my stepdad says he’ll just remodel the entire basement while we’re at it. which means my room would basically be#gone. this is so fucking stupid#all because some idiot left the hose on. and we don’t even know who it is either. i think it’s our new neighbor because he kinda just#comes to our house a lot and talks to us or just hangs out in our yard. and sometimes he shows up when none of us are home#idk it’s stupid apparently there’s a shit ton of damage and that’s freaking me out because i literally love my room so much it’s my favorit#place to be ever and all my friends call it the autism room because it’s filled with all my favorite things#like my walls are bright neon lime green i got collections and shit i’ve got minecraft posters and like a million plushies everywhere#my room is literally so autism coded#ANYWAY. probably nothing will happen but yeah#side note i have a shit ton of asks to answer and tag games to catch up on and stories to read but i’ve had literally zero spoons lately#i’m gonna play minecrafttttt (in the process of building a pc so soon i’ll be able to get mc java!!! excited about that!!!!)#wyrms says stuff

you might be wondering "amelie, it's been over twelve hours since a sprinkler went off on the fifth floor which somehow led to a burst pipe on the second floor which flooded the apartment next to you on the first floor, surely they've at least managed to get power back to your floor now, at nearly one in the afternoon" and that would be a fair thing to wonder, but you would be wrong to wonder it, because they fucking haven't

So this happened last weekend…
Went to a shop I’ve been in multiple times, and there was Aichi Sendou, hiding in a corner behind the candy. Never saw him there before. My s.o. found the manager and paid an undisclosed sum to take him home. Aichi Sendou is now in my living room.

    Ψ AWESAMDUDE + AMINA (ALLARD’S ANEMONEFISH) Ψ
Allard’s anemonefish, also called the two-banded clown, are a hardy, bold species of clownfish, which tends to roam further from their anemone than many clownfish do. They often attack other fish that get close to their anemone, fiercely defending their home and eggs from predators. They will also lure fish to their anemone in order to feed the anemone, as these fish are not immune to the anemone’s stings like the anemonefish.
While the Allard’s anemonefish may roam further from their anemone than most species of clownfish, they still crave familiarity and their comfort zone at the end of the day, as they stay with the same anemone for life and depend on it entirely for their survival. If a smaller, weaker, more passive fish joins their anemone after them, they may bully them, though they will deign to coexist with other semi-aggressive fish.
All clownfish are hierarchical, territorial, and competitive to some degree, and have strict dominance hierarchies in their anemones. They usually live with a partner or small group in their anemones, but they can be quite aggressive towards anemonefish of different species. The non-breeding clownfish in an anemone do not help the breeding pair tend to their eggs, as they are always looking for opportunities to oust the main breeding pair and take over the anemone themselves. The main breeding pair, however, works tirelessly to tend to their eggs until they hatch, fanning them to make sure they get the right amount of oxygen and eating bad eggs to make sure they don’t infect other healthy eggs. These clownfish are also monogamous, pairing for life.
Sam is dependable, diligent, and protective. Ami is ambitious, obsessive, and possessive.
~
NAME MEANING ”Amina” is the feminine form of Arabic Amin, meaning "honest, trustworthy," and it's also a Hebrew name meaning "faithful, trusted."
