You know, with the fact that Ryn went and got herself petrified within a day of finding out just how willing the Ruby Vanguard are to fuck a wizard up, I do think that, while the bar is very low, Essek (as he is during the course of the campaign) really does deserve some credit for never ending up in such a self-imposed pickle that he needed his allied party to show up and save him from himself. In fact, the only time the Nein directly felt the need to worry about him was when Caleb put him in danger without thinking through certain connections that would be made, and even then, that was more of Caleb feeling guilt-ridden about it than actual worrying.
And to be very clear, Essek absolutely was and still to this day in canon is in a massive, self-imposed pickle, but when it actually comes down to it, the Nein were pretty tangential and superfluous to navigating that, and he's predominantly doing the work himself.
I'm too tired to have higher thought and am just like... okay fandom landscape's changed a lot recently and now I want survey data on what characters most frequently get transgenderified by fans and why. Like on a personal basis and also stuff you've seen other people doing... wondering which written traits contribute to it more also for men vs women too
Like talon dick au, league jason/tim au, meta literally anybody else, bruce treating tim the worst because he came after Jason, etc.
These are all themes and ideas you could explore with the characters they actually apply to and it’s not lost on me that such a heavily queer fandom ignores black and brown people and women so much in favor of white men who are canonically cops, or have classist ideals, or whatever. It’s not even the aus themselves that are bad (well. To you ig) it’s the fact that it’s so obvious that ur yearning for a specific character or story that’s already there and just waiting to be explored in full but you can’t see poc as people enough to do it.
Anything you write about talon dick can be explored through cass, league cracker aus through Damián, meta anyones through Duke, tim being hated through Stephanie. These are themes that ALREADY exist but y’all are so entangled in making white men kiss that u ignore them it’s so fucking weird. Even that ‘trying c+ parent’ thing with Bruce where he knows he’s paranoid and controlling but he knows statistically it helps but he also wants his family to be happy? Or him being the only smart competent person ever (🫥) and backbone of the JL? That could be Babs! READ BIRDS OF PREY!
Anyways it’s just so disingenuous like first of all I don’t believe anyone who says they don’t read enough ONLY to include Duke; not only bc it’ll be someone who’s self admittedly never read anything but also bc Duke is THEE easiest character to get into rn. I don’t believe people who write the aus above and have the characters they actually apply to as cardboard cutouts in the background have any care for said characters and I don’t believe that people who project their own “leftist” ideals onto white characters before even THINKING about a woman believe shit. That’s just me tho idc
Wait, I’m out of the loop! Can you explain why we should be wary of Gail Simone? Last I actively was involved in the IRL community, she was constantly praised but I don’t know her work well :/
i dont wanna say you SHOULD do anything bc. think what you want to think yk. but the reason a lot of people dont like her work (specifically her birds of prey run bc i dont think ive read anything else shes written) is. theres a lot of racism in it. i wont go into specifics but pretty much every asian character gets written as a dragon lady stereotype and theres. um. some very questionable stuff in some arcs (the arc where she gets her daughter is. um. horrible and makes me cringe just thinking about it)
i think that a lot of people look at simone's bop run with rose colored glasses just because its a fun team that has some fun dynamics and good moments but,,,, there are quite a few issues.
Something I really loved about Barbie is the beginning of "Dance The Night" repeating as the theme/jingle throughout the movie. It's such a fun disco vibe and it was neat that they incorporated it into an orchestral sound a few times too
maybe controversial but i feel like the way that welcome to new york is considered a staple surprise song for taylor playing at metlife so too should tim mcgraw be a staple for atlanta shows
I want to make one thing clear – even if this song had swept the televote in its national final and was pitch-perfectly sung with killer choreography, Solo would still be right down at the bottom of my list. There’s so much here I dislike just in the studio cut, from the opening squeaky synth, to Blanka’s affectation as she puts on ‘pop-star voice’, to the irritating syncopated beat that blares throughout the entire track, only letting up for a few short seconds at the start of each chorus. The topic isn’t anything new, there’s plenty of better pop songs that deal with the singer being much better of without their ex, and the lyrics feel lazy and repetitive, especially in the chorus which is just the same two lines repeated, to the point where the words lose all meaning to me by the time the song is over. It doesn’t help that this isn’t a genre I’m particularly keen on, but even within its genre Solo is unimaginative and bland. Add some pretty abysmal live performances on top of it, and it adds up to an entry I really can’t stand.
