The Perfect Girl (Part 5)
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - PART 4
TW: drugs, mention of miscarriage (not reader’s though), curse words, silly grammar mistakes ‘cause English is not my first language.
Notes: Today I’m quoting Milhouse: “There’re no great days, Bart. Just days.” ‘cause boy I’m mad at vol2 ending. If the fic is divided in two parts, then this should be the end of the first one, but don’t worry there are chapters left. Also, I think I’ll upload these in AO3, not sure yet.
Love y’all and see you in part 6 <3
----------------------------------------
Y/N felt the deep calling in her bones when she saw the red light coming from the bottom of the lake.
Her instinct kept repeating that it was a bad idea. That light shouldn't come from there, that bright colors in nature were a bad sign, especially the red ones. And yet, there she was attracted like a moth to a lightbulb or a prey to an anglerfish.
Her head started to pulsate in pain as she got closer to the portal, until it all became darkness.
Was that the upside down? She could still feel the water. Maybe she was in an upside-down lake.
The girl panicked at the thought that maybe she didn't take a long enough breath to swim to the new surface.
Then she suddenly felt herself being sucked down by an invisible force.
The first thing she experienced, was a scream. Her own scream. That meant she was breathing.
The second thing she realized was that she impacted against a hard surface. So, no more water.
And the third thing was her body understanding she was in a completely new environment.
Was that what it felt like to be born?
It looked like a desert but instead of cacti, it was filled with vines that looked more like tentacles. And instead of the sun burning hot, the sky looked like blood and dust seemed to be floating in the air.
At the distance Y/N could see her friends. It was all still blurry but she could guess their shape jumping around.
Maybe they were greeting her, but she could hear screams.
She squinted her eyes trying to focus her gaze only to find that her friends weren't jumping excitedly, they were being attacked by bats.
The cheerleader ran towards them and noticed she couldn't breathe the air as easily as in the normal world.
"STEVE!" she shouted. "NANCY! ROBIN!"They all stopped at the sight of her.
Robin and Steve carried an oar each and Nancy was defending herself with two flashlights.
The bats changed their direction towards her when they heard her voice.
"SHIT!" Robin cursed.
"Y/N TAKE IT!" Nancy quickly threw her a flashlight that the cheerleader clumsily caught.
The first bat came for her eyes but she somehow managed to dodge it only to see at least fifteen more coming behind it.
Her friends ran towards her and the battle began. Although the only ones who looked like knew what they were doing were Steve and Nancy. Robin and Y/N were just hitting anywhere and everywhere.
By the time they killed almost every bat, one of them screamed and so another round of bats appeared.
Y/N gasped in shock and that was all it took for one of the animals to grab her by the neck with its strong tail. The girl opened her eyes and her mouth trying to breath all the air she could. She couldn't see the predator but with one hand she hit the air and with the other, she tried to pull the tail away from her. Desperately, she looked to her side but the others weren't helping her because they were busy struggling with their own fight.
She tried to scream in vain.
She wasn't going to die like that.
Suddenly another shout was heard and the bat that got her fell into the ground.
Y/N turned around in time to see Eddie grabbing the animal by the wings and throwing it in the air.
She wanted to laugh in relief but it came as a gasp of air.
"Behind you!" the boy exclaimed and she obeyed.
The others were struggling to keep up with the fight, especially Nancy -who, just like Y/N was only defending herself with a flashlight.
The cheerleader went to take the bats out of her as Eddie helped Robin and Steve.
"We need to run!" Eddie yelled.
"We're almost there!" Steve ripped a bat apart with his oar.
"No, we're not. They're gonna keep coming!" Robbin agreed with the metalhead.
"Let's hide in the woods!" suggested Nancy.
"Come on man, there's no shame in running!" added Eddie.
"Let's go, Steve!" Y/N begged.
"Fine" the boy rolled his eyes.
They got into the woods until they were too tired to keep running.
"That... that was so metal" commented Eddie.
"Please let's not do that... ever again." Robin nervously said.
"Be careful... "Nancy took a hand to her chest trying to compose herself "...with the vines on the floor."
"Why?" Asked Y/N.
"This world is single minded. It'll wake the bats or even worse."
"Right... So, we can't go back to the Lover's Lake." Steve thought aloud.
"...unless we have weapons to defend ourselves." suggested Nancy.
"We can't face the bats with two oars and two flashlights, Nance." Y/N said.
"No, we would need real weapons." the young reporter smiled.
"Do you have any idea where to find a weapon in here, Wheeler?" Eddie raised his eyebrows.
"Actually yes, I have a weapon in my room." She stated.
"What?" Robin asked surprised.
"You? Nancy Wheeler, have a weapon in your room?" The metalhead squinted his eyes suspiciously.
"Why would you have a weapon?" Steve asked what everyone was thinking.
"After all we went through, I thought it would be appropriate." she answered.
"Right, so I don't know about you guys, but the forest is giving me the creeps, could we move on?" Robin said.
"Can... can we hold on one second?" Steve asked.
"Oh no, Steve!" Nancy gasped.
Y/N worriedly searched for the boy's gaze, but he was looking at his stomach. She winced when she noticed the opened wound at his side.
"Shit, Steve-- Oh my God, Steve, you--" began Robin.
"Rob 's okay, I promise." he tried to smile.
"No, it's not, oh my--"
Robin couldn't finish the sentence because the earth started to shake making everyone loose balance.
Y/N was about to make the mistake of holding onto a tree but a pair of arms took her to the floor.
They all became still, not knowing what exactly happened. At the distance a chilling noise could be heard.
"You okay?" Eddie whispered beneath her. His breath against her ear made her heart beat even faster than what it had been beating with all the recent stress.
"Y-yeah" She slowly looked at him "Are you okay, Eddie?"
"Huh? --oh no, yeah. Totally fine. Don't worry about it."
Robin immediately got up and went to Steve again. With shaky hands she ripped apart the end of her shirt.
"Ok so..." Robin began her rant. "If you start having hallucinations or muscle spasm or you start feeling really agressive like -like you wanna punch me or something, you should totally let me know, okay?"
"I kinda want to punch you right now." Steve mumbled and his friend laughed anxiously.
"Sense of humor is still intact, it's a good sign. It's just that rabies is like my number one fear, you know? Once you get symptoms it's already too late."
"Robin!" Nancy exclaimed.
"I'm sorry!"
-------------------------------------
The way to the Wheeler's house was easier to find in the upside down -probably because Steve still remembered the way from the Lake to Nancy's house.
The house looked abandoned and possessed. The vines took over the building and it seemed like they were from a longtime.
"Come on" invited Nancy even though she entered the place like it was a foreign land.
Y/N followed her into her room.
Everything wasn't only consumed by the climbing plants but also covered in the same kind of dust that flew in the air.
She wondered if it could be toxic to breath in the long run.
The cheerleader thought that Nancy's room would look tidy and perfect, just like her. The walls would probably be white or pink, and she would have motivational quotes on her walls, or maybe a board full of key words she would have use during high school.
But she couldn't verify that theory because the whole dimension lacked of light and the room looked completely wild.
"You've got a nice house, Nance." Y/N could still observe.
"Thank you, it's nicer on the other side, though." the young reporter answered while looking for something in her closet.
"I believe you." The cheerleader smiled. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure."
"Why did you lie to Steve about how we've met?"
Nancy got silent for a long moment while she kept on searching.
Y/N thought that maybe she didn't hear her.
"It was a rough night" she finally answered. "I --we never really spoke about it. I didn't feel like telling him in front of the kids that I got so wasted that night that I couldn't remember how I got there."
"Right, your brother was there. I get it."
"I --it was wrong though. I messed up so badly that night. But it's all in the past and I've learned a lot."
Nancy went to look under her bed with a frown in her face.
"What did you learn?" Y/N asked.
"Well, if you need to tell someone something, you better do it before it's too late or you know, you get wasted at a party and randomly explode with all the problems you've been bottling up ---wait, it can't be."
"What happened?"
"Guys?" She loudly called for the others and waited until Eddie and Robin were in the room.
"We're here." Robin said.
"I don't have the gun."
"Shit." Eddie said.
Nancy paced around and started looking around her high school notes.
"As much as it pains me to say this, Nance -I don't think this is the time for studying." Robin commented.
"Something's not right." Nancy ignored her. "These notes, they are from my junior year. That's... 1983, the year Will disappeared."
"GUYS?" Steve called from the living room making all of them worriedly go back to where he was.
"Are you okay?" Y/N asked nervously.
"I've just heard him." The boy replied excitedly looking everywhere. "He's here!"
"Who is here?" Eddie raised his eyebrows.
"Dustin is here! That little shit is here! I can hear him. DUSTIN!" he yelled into the air. "DUSTIN!"
"Oh my God, the hallucinations have started." mumbled Robin.
"HE'S UPSTAIRS COME ON!"
-----------------------------------------------------------
It was thanks to Eddie that they could communicate with the others in the normal world. He knew the basics of morse code and it was enough for Dustin to realize that they needed help.
The plan was to meet in Eddie's trailer. Assuming it was the nearest gate and it was protected, they didn't see why they couldn't get out that way.
"We-- we are here." Y/N announced out of breath carrying Steve on the bike with her.
He insisted that he was feeling fine, but the girl feared he could bleed out if he pushed his limits.
They threw the bikes and ran to the trailer.
"This is so cool" commented Eddie at the sight of his home full of vines.
The cheerleader remembered the last time she was there.
She remembered Chrissy's bike shorts and her broken bones.
How desperate she looked.
She had all the right to be scared.
Y/N would be scared too.
In fact, she was.
She felt a gentle hand on top of her. Eddie was looking at her with guilt on his eyes. The girl tried to smile.
"Hello?" Robin called looking at the ceiling where the portal was. "Hi! Dustin?"
They could see a young girl looking back at them and waving back. She spoke but they could barely hear her.
"Oh, that's Sinclaire. We're saved, man." Eddie laughed relieved.
"Who is she?" Y/N asked confused that her friend would confide so much in a kid.
"It's Lucas' sister" Robin grinned.
The cheerleader kept staring at the portal and saw how Dustin carried Eddie's mattress and tied some sheets together.
"What are those stains, man?" Steve asked.
"Oh, Eddie, the stains..." Y/N shook her head making the owner of the house lick his lips nervously.
"I -I've got no idea, really."
Suddenly, half of the handmade rope fell into the upside down.
"How--" Robin began.
"Let's just get out of here." Nancy said pushing Steve, who needed help the most.
He fell into the mattress and stained it with blood.
Then followed him the young reporter and then Robin.
"You wanna go next?" Eddie asked.
"Are you sure you don't want me to help you?" He smiled.
"Look, I know I'm no Arnold Schwarzenegger but I still have some muscle on me, you know."
"Right, I'm sorry." She smiled back.
"For what?"
"For -you know, thinking you needed help. I know you're strong."
"Actually, no. I don't think I'll forgive you Y/N."
"What?"
"Always thinking you're better than everybody else..."
"Excuse me?" She frowned but her heart stopped when Eddie's voice unnaturally dropped an octave.
"...Always thinking you know best. Did you know best back then, Y/N?"
"Shit."
She ran away the fastest she could and went for the trailer's door, as she began feeling claustrophobic, but when she opened it -there was a wall blocking the exit.
"There's no running away this time, Y/N."
"Stop!" she whispered loudly while she frantically looked for another exit.
The other room became an old living room where there were bodies on the table. A family that died just like Chrissy.
"See, we're not that different from each other, Y/N. I was a human once, too." Vecna's voice sounded all around the room. "I killed them and nobody suspected little Henry would be able of such a thing. His own family!"
The grandfather clock sounded four times making the girl snap out of the shock and kept on running.
What it logically should have been the hall of the house, transformed into a long hospital-like hall, which fluorescent lights made her squint her eyes due to the photophobia.
She looked behind, only to find Vecna approaching her, the walls filling up with blood.
The only door left was blocked by wooden boards. She sobbed desperately and managed to take one of them, then the other. The last one broke her nail and made her hiss in pain but she still opened the door in time.
It was a big empty room, except for a kid with a white hospital gown and a grown man.
"See? I had to surround myself with people who said that wanted the best for me when they never cared whether I lived or died. I bet you know what that feels like." the kid spoke like the monster.
"Shut up!" She yelled and went for the door.
The next room had only a table and a glass with pills at the side.
Y/N put a hand on her mouth in shame.
"I- I didn't know I--" she sobbed.
"Oh but I think you knew. I think little Y/N just didn't want a sibling, did you?"
"THAT'S -THAT'S NOT TRUE. IT WAS A JOKE. It wasn't supposed to go like that-- I was just a kid how could I--"
“Ah, but you didn’t tell your mother it was you.” he said faking disappointment “See how we resemble one another?”
In a blink of an eye, they changed locations again.
The girl recognized the red sky and the vines around her limbs and her neck tying her against a sticky surface.
Vecna looked at her in the eyes, their noses almost touching.
"You know the difference between me and you, Y/N...." He moved his hand making the vines even tighter on her. "... is that I don't play the victim. I embrace the decisions I made in life."
"Th-that didn't -g-get you v-very far, huh?" The monster laughed.
"You are one to talk, little one. I've got a growing empire, what did you get? A premature death."
"A- at least I-I'm not al-one."
"Alone? You mean the kids out there? Y/N, they're also running out of time."
"N-no!"
"Don't worry, I'm here to end with your suffering."
The girl gasped in horror when his long hand was positioned above her head.
She closed her eyes and felt the tears going down her cheeks.
She saw images sped up in her mind, the same way they say you see your whole life pass in front of you before you die. Except it wasn't her life, it was Vecna's life. A knowledge of his conscience installed in Y/N's psyche faster than she could've been able to explain.
"Y/N WAKE UP. WAKE UP Y/N!" Eddie's desperate cry could be heard at the distance. "IT'S IN THE FIRST DRAWER, HENDERSON. HURRY UP!"
She couldn't hear anymore because she started crying inconsolably.
She was going to die in the same spot where Chrissy died, the same way she did.
And Eddie would have to experience that pain all over again.
He gave her the best year of her life and she felt like she just ruined it all.
No matter what she did, she always seemed to mess everything up to him.
Maybe this was for the best, then.
Sure, her death would be bad news but eventually over time, he would heal.
Y/N winced at the thought that she never got the chance to say goodbye.
Or sorry for all the pain she has caused.
Or how she felt about---
.
You're such a strange girl
I think you come from another world
You're such a strange girl
I really don't understand a word
You're such a strange girl
I'd like to shake you around and around
You're such a strange girl
I'd like to turn you all upside-down
.
"No!" Vecna exclaimed when the vines let her free.
Y/N laughed in relief and began running again.
.
You're such, such, such a strange girl
The way you look like you do
You're such a strange girl
I want to be with you
She could see herself standing stiff and Eddie with his forehead pressed against hers and his hands, each on one side of the headphones, as if the pressure would make the music louder.
.
At the distance a portal opened.
.
I think I'm falling in
I think I'm falling
I think I'm falling in love with you
With you.
.
Y/N jumped into the portal and for a long second all she saw was light.
And then she felt her limbs, and Eddie's body convulsing in a desperate sob.
She opened her eyes with a gasp, finding hard to believe that she wasn't in Vecna's made up world anymore.
At some point her body gave up and she collapsed in his arms.
"I'm -I'm here Eddie."
He hugged her and they stayed still, both trying to regulate their breathing.
"I thought I lost you."
"I -I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'm here." She inhaled his scent and cried. "You've saved me, Eddie. You're my hero."
"Sure, sweetheart." he smiled against her clothes.
.
You are such a strange girl
You are such a strange girl
I want to be with you
.
"I think I'm ready to get the hell out of here." she said standing up once the song finished.
"You sure?"
"Oh yeah, no doubt."
Y/N grabbed the rope and climbed. Her limbs were shaking and for a moment she thought her body would give up, but staying down there wasn't an option.
She finally fell down into the mattress.
"Y/N!" the others exclaimed.
"Are you okay?" Nancy asked worriedly.
She stood up and look at her friends. They genuinely seemed worried.
The girl heard Eddie fell on the mattress behind her.
"Yeah, yeah I'm totally--" she said but she ran out of adrenaline and everything went black.
-------------------------------------------
Y/N groaned tiredly.
She knew she have woken up, but she didn't want to open her eyes yet. It was the first time in a month that she didn't have a nightmare or a horrible headache.
The bed was incredibly confortable and big compared to her single bed at home.
"Y/N?" Eddie's voice called her.
She instantly forgot about the pleasures of staying five more minutes pretending to be asleep and opened her eyes to find her friend on a lazy sofa on the corner of his room playing with his lighter.
"Hi." She said shyly.
The silent made its presence while the two of them studied each other's features carefully before saying at the same time:
"I know you're upset--"
"How you doing?"
"What?"
"You passed out the moment you got up, how're you feeling?" Eddie asked again.
"Oh... yeah, I'm good. Your mattress is really comfy, thank you."
He took a cigarette out of the pocket of his jacket and lighted it.
He spoke calmly but the girl could tell he was nervous.
"I'm not upset by the way."
"Eddie..." she sighed. "I know you are and you've got every right to--"
"Since when did you know, then?" he asked with the cigarette in his mouth.
"Huh?" she raised her eyebrows in surprise.
"Since when did you know you were being followed by Vecna?"
"Since... I don't know. I kinda suspected it when Max told me her symptoms but I went into denial. I saw the clock when we found you at Skull Rock."
"I know I'm no Harrington and I'm always running away but... you could've told me, you know?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to worry you."
"Didn't want to worry me?" Eddie took the cigarette out of his mouth and indignantly exhaled the smoke. "Y/N I was worried sick down there! I felt so powerless, so useless and so --ugh, so angry at myself that I didn't realize what has been happening!"
"Again, I'm so sorry. It- I didn't know he was going to attack me in the same spot as... her."
They became silent once more.
She couldn't look at him in the eye and she didn't need to, to know that he was staring at her with his eyes wide open.
It ashamed her the most that she also knew that he wasn't mad at her, he still wanted to comprehend. He still thought it was somehow his fault and that he could have done something to prevent it.
"What do you mean when you say that you're not like Steve?" Y/N suddenly asked looking at the creepy Ozzy Osbourn poster.
"I--" she could see in the corner of her eye that the boy didn't know where to look either. "He's so charming and always knows what to do and me... I'm always running and hell people were scared of me before the police started to look for me for suspected murder."
"Well, you are very charming to me." She looked at him.
"You think so?" he played with a strand of his hair.
"Yeah, you're not scary at all. If people knew you -You were the only one who made me laugh even when I thought I was going to die. I know you can't help being you and that's great."
It seemed like Eddie Munson lost his words for the first time.
"I-- I, well -You can get to know me better if--"
"Eddie, I think we have a plan." Dustin chaotically entered the room. "Oh, Y/N, hi. You woke up, just in time."
