Happy pride month lovelies! If any of y'all are interested in queer artists this month i'll be (trying) to post a little blurb about some every now and again! (nothing too extensive but a starting point for further reading/research if you're interested! 😋)

Today is for Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns!

Both artists grew up in the American south before moving to New York City to develop their art practices in the 1950s. In 1953, both artists met at a party and quickly became friends and then lovers after bonding over their mutual hate for the current Abstract Expressionist art movement. By 1955, Rauschenberg and Johns had studio spaces next to one another as they became each other's audience and muses for their respective experimental works.

Rauschenberg stated, "Jasper was soft, beautiful, lean, and poetic. [...] I have photos of him then that would break your heart." However, the couple split up by 1962 as Rauschenberg recounts, "What had been sensitive and tender became gossip."

After the breakup, both artists left New York City for an extended period of time and made revenge paintings (see John's work Liar) and refused to speak to one another for several years. In 1950s America, neither artist felt comfortable speaking about their relationship outside their immediate circle of friends, but in a time dominated by macho, egotistical, AbEx Pollock action paintings, Rauschenberg and Johns forged their own, softer, art alternative, together.

this is another one of those semi dead wips that's from at least 3 yrs ago (so again, now i think the writing is 5/10 at best) but i've always been attached to my abandoned concepts so maybe sometime it will see the light of day <3 honestly i was just daydreaming one time and wanted to do some hand studies, and then said "i'll totally be able to write hand headcanon studies for all the characters in liyue, and then mond and inazuma" and i haven't gotten past xiangling's, so. the general concept was to write a bit abt all the playable character's we've met so far tbh. anyways have some of my chef daughter

this was also when i was a lot more exposed to/involved in the x reader community, so the 2nd person rubbed off from there. theoretically this is all POV lumine (aether if you prefer, but really the traveler is just a vehicle in this and their personality doesn't affect anything), and i was trying to make it fit with the gameplay timeline so since xiangling's SQ was the first one you unlock after mondstadt chars, she was the first one I wrote. xingqiu would've been next, and then uhhhh idk lmao

been thinking about the parallels between ace discourse and lesbian discourse

asexual and aromantic people being told they are not part of the LGBT community because they supposedly do not face discrimination or hardships for their sexuality. despite voices of countless people telling tales of how theyve been violated, invalidated, and overall shunned and humiliated for being aro or ace or both. people saying aphobia doesnt exist or treating it like a joke and accusing them of lying or exaggerating about their struggles.

then we have lesbians being told that the word lesbian does not or cannot be exclusive of men. that its somehow hurting other LGBT people if lesbians regard a lack of male attraction as being an important part of our sexuality. lesbians being told that lesbiphobia doesnt exist. that theres is no lesbian exclusive oppression. that the idea that anyone feels invalidated by not having a single label to describe and represent who we are, is a joke and we need to get over it.
