Pregnancy can be a beautiful thing, and in this case, it typically was.
The day you had found out you were pregnant you could not stop crying, immediately calling Shouto, your loving husband of two years, to bear the good news. While giving you an initial scare by immediately hanging up on you when spilling the news, you were relieved to find him next to you in five minutes with a bouquet of your favorite flowers and misty eyes.
You could still remember holding him tightly as you two hugged as tears fell down your face as you whispered to Shouto that it was real and that he was going to make an amazing parent.
That was exactly thirty-nine weeks ago, and now being an entire week overdue with the same raging pregancy hormones, you wanted this baby out of you!
You were a Pro-Hero before this baby, and you planned on staying a Pro-Hero once the sucker was born. Through a lot of pressure from family, friends, and mostly Shouto, you had agreed to spend the your pregnancy with your alumni U.A. and teach Hero Basics even though you would not be participating in any actual lessons as soon as you couldn’t see your toes anymore.
So there you sat at home, your swollen feet elevated on pillows as a heated blanket lay over your simultaneous cold and hot body, dumb hormones were making you crazy. You were overdue, and you were ready to quite literally kick this baby out of you. Were you excited to be a mother, definitely, but this child seemed to be tap dancing on your bladder like it was life or death.
“Relax, tenshi,” You whispered to your baby, rubbing your swollen belly as you grimaced as a terrible heat flash went throughout your body, “Are you seriously craving donuts right now? We just had an early dinner!” You gasped as images of the sugary sweet dessert flashed through your mind making your mouth water.
“Okay, you convinced me!” You laugh, it took you a while, but soon you managed to squirm off the couch and onto your feet only after two minutes. “That’s a new record, I should tell Shouto…”
How you used to be an S-Rank Pro-Hero you had no idea because now you couldn’t even put on shoes without assistance. “Mama is gonna cry when she has to get back into shape. You made me so fat!” You coo softly to yourself as you waddled over to your purse and grabbed it.
Checking yourself in the mirror, you groaned. Your face was so round that it officially beat Uraraka’s for roundest face in the old class 1-A. You wore a maxi sundress even though it was still February because nothing else fits! Well, sweaty old XXL shirts did but it just was not acceptable in public! Slipping on your sandals, you yelled goodbye to no one in the house and waddled out to buy some donuts.
You eventually made it to the donut shop with drool just about coming down your mouth as you entered the store.
“Ah, Todoroki-sama, I was wondering if you were going to be coming in at all today!” The owner greeted you with a bow as you laughed easily.
“My little Tenshi got his little donut cravings really late tonight, Takashima-sama you wound me, your best customer would never disappoint!” You teased back, your face contorted into a grimace as you clutched your swollen belly, waddling closer to the counter with your wallet ready.
“This one is on the house,” The store owner Takashima said, sliding over a box of half a dozen maple bars.
You teared up, accepting the box while sobbing, and left a generous tip as you went to sit down. Calming down slowly, you groaned as you placed the box down and froze.
Why was your leg wet?
You looked down, hands waving with heightened anxiety and shrieked, “ TAKASHIMA-SAMA, MY WATER BROKE!”
⋆✭⋆✭⋆⋆✭⋆✭⋆
Twenty minutes away via car stood Todoroki Shouto walking down the crowded streets of Tokyo with Midoriya and Iida. The three of them had finished working together for a promo radio interview and were now patrolling near their agencies.
“You know, I’ve really come to miss y/l/n-chan walking around with us,” Iida confessed as he waved to a young fan who was pointing him out to his mother.
“It’s Todoroki, Iida-kun,” Midoriya reminds Iida for the millionth time, but knows that no amount of reminding will ever get Iida to not call you by your maiden name.
“Y/n will be back soon after of course, she feels ready to return to the field,” Shouto says silently agreeing with the fact that he missed having his wife with him while working, it had to be the worst thing about you getting pregnant by far.
“Is she not overdue for the baby, as well? Don’t most pregnancies last only thirty-eight weeks?” Iida questioned as they stopped to take pictures with an obvious American fan.
“Y/n’s ob-gyn doctor said we shouldn’t worry, but that if by the end of the week if y/n hasn’t given birth naturally, she’ll need a c-section,” Shouto explained as he pulled out his phone feeling it buzzing. He saw your contact picture, a celebratory picture of you after finishing a rather intense hiking trail during your honeymoon. “It’s y/n.”
The two of them nod their head as they watched Shouto pick the phone to his ear as he turned around to give himself some privacy. Shouto spoke once, nodded three times and hung up after giving his love.
“Well, y/n is in labor, and I need to get going,” Shouto says eerily calm, his arms stiff by his side, and Midoriya just about jumps out of his skin.
“SHE’S IN LABOR?! OH MY GOD, I’M NOT READY!!”
“Do not panic, Midoriya-kun, it is Todoroki who is going to be the father, not you.” Iida reminds Midoriya who is looking in every direction trying to figure out a game plan for getting to the hospital.
“I KNOW THAT! BUT I–” Midoriya stops and looks over at Shouto who is visibly panicking. “Todoroki-kun, are you okay?”
“There are no more trains back to Musutafu until 21:00,” Todoroki says carefully and to their horror, it’s only 18:30. “Even if we take a car, we could be late.”
“No!” Iida and Midoriya yell.
“I’ll get you there on time!” Midoriya affirms turning his back to Shouto. “Get on!”
With a crackle of lighting, and the shout of “RECIPRO BURST” the three Pro-Heroes were gone without a trace.
⋆✭⋆✭⋆⋆✭⋆✭⋆
“It hurts!” You scream in pain as contraction after contraction plummets through you, obviously, your baby had no care in the world that 1. mama was in a hell lot of pain and 2. papa wasn’t here yet so you weren’t going to let him leave your womb.
“Todoroki-sama, you need to push! You’re going to get yourself or the baby hurt!” Your doctor yells obviously worried as you clenched your legs tightly together.
“I’m not having this baby without S-Shoucchan here!” You cry as the pain is quickly becoming unbearable.
“Y/n, I’m here!” A very frazzled looking Shouto walks through the delivery room, his body clothed in medical scrubs his face showing his fear and love. You giggle a bit like a lunatic seeing a few leaves stuck in his hair finding it amusing despite the pain.
“Midoriya and Iida brought y-yOU!?” You screamed again as your body is now fighting you on letting your baby come out.
You look up and see Shouto now at your bedside, his hand clutching yours as the doctor commands a few nurses to get things ready. “I was scared I was going to miss this…” Shouto admits as you clench his hand in yours as another painful contraction sears your body.
“You’re not missing anything!” You can’t help but snap as you throw your head back, a thin sheen of sweat covering your body. “Get this baby oUT OF ME!” You shriek at the doctor who has now positioned your legs for delivery.
“Alright, Todoroki-sama, I need you to push for ten seconds, okay?”
“OKAY!!”
And Shouto watched as his wife only tightened her death grip on his hands, curses leaving her lips left and right as she pushed with all her might. He stared over at the doctor who he knew was screaming at his stubborn wife to follow his commands, but he could hear nothing besides the roar of his heartbeat in his ears.
Shouto can’t stop himself from leaning over and pressing a kiss on your sweating forehead as you scream louder to get the baby out of you. Then, Shouto can hear a soft cry. His eyes widen as he watches the pink, white, and bloody baby being held by the doctor and all he can hear is the baby’s cries and the exhausted pants from you.
He looks down to find you slumping in the bed, your hair a complete mess, sweat drenching your body, and tears falling down your face.
“Shoucchan,” You murmur, and immediately Shouto is attending to you, wiping off the sweat, fluffing your pillow and kissing you a million times as both your shaking hands hold each other. “Baby, you’re crying.” You inform him with a weak but incredibly affectionate smile.
Shouto wipes away the tears that fall down his face, only to find himself crying, even more. The nurse eventually brings your guys’ small baby boy over to the two of you and gently handed him to you, and you cradle your baby close to your body. “Hi Kaito,” You coo at the baby who was now soundlessly sleeping on your chest, “I’m your mama, and I just want you to know that even though you were a pain in my ass, I love you so much…”
Shouto snorts as you look up at him and smile, and he comes down to press another kiss on your lips. “Come here, Shoucchan,” You say handing your son over to him, and watched as your husband froze. You waited a moment and then grinned as Shouto reached for baby Kaito and you easily handed him over. You watched with tears in your eyes as Shouto gently bounced with Kaito in his arms, whispering about how much he was going to love him, and how he was going to make Kaito proud to be his son.
“I promise, Kaito, I will never ever let you or your beautiful mama get hurt, and I promise you no matter what happens, I will love you forever and always.”
this made me really soft and kinda was like “maybe pregnancy isn’t that bad???” anywho, hope you enjoyed and have a good rest of your day!!!!!
bonus!
The entire old Class 1-A shuffled through the hallways of the hospital, each claiming to see a different patient so that they could all visit your room.
“Okay, just in case you bozo’s don’t know how to behave around babies, do not scream when we walk in. They are shits to be put to bed, and if you wake up y/n-chan’s sleeping baby, I will end you!” Mina threatens as she eyes down the… louder members of the class. “Second of all, it’s a baby, so don’t talk to it expecting answers, and most importantly, do not. I repeat, do NOT, throw the baby around like it’s some game!”
She gave an obviously pointed glare at Kaminari.
“I’m so excited!” Momo squeals right before they open the door, and with numerous amounts of presents and balloons on hand, nineteen Pro-Heroes entered the room and froze. The sight in front of them making them speechless. Shouto was laying on the bed with you, his arm behind you giving you comfort, and the baby laying on your chest asleep. For the matter at hand, all three of you were asleep without a care in the world.
Some members of the party had to bite down on their hands to keep them from screaming.
Later that night when Shouto woke up for a few minutes and checked his phone for any messages, he then saw a picture of the three of them asleep on the hospital bed on the group chat, with a caption:
‘What a beautiful family, can’t wait for more pictures! Welcome to the family Todoroki Kaito! We love you!’

Unexpected - Chapter 12
This is now officially my longest fic (sorry Reckoning, I promise I haven’t forgotten you!)
Hailey was now fully settled into her new role as the Intelligence units desk girl. She had developed a routine, had a never ending to do list thanks to Platt, and found the mundane nature of the job surprisingly refreshing. After having spent so many years in the middle of the action, running down bad guys and getting in hot pursuits, it was nice to actually know what your day was going to bring. Plus, she still got to spend her days with the people she most considered her family. That’s not to say she wouldn’t jump at the chance to be back on the road, she may even have a mental countdown going. But for now, this is where she needed to be and she was alright with that. She had gotten in the habit of asking Jay, who was now back off desk duty and fully recovered from his shoulder incident, to give her rundowns of his day. Jay would laugh as even the simplest of details would spark a light in her eyes, as she clung to his every word like a kid hearing a fairy tale for the first time. Today was a slow day for everyone and the whole unit was sitting in the bullpen, working on tying up loose ends on old cases as they didn’t have anything currant to do. Hailey was finishing up going through yet another box of files Platt had sent up, the first one already completed and sat on the floor beside her. Vanessa stood to stretch her legs after working on reports for over an hour and came over to stand by Hailey.
“This looks riveting.” She teased, causing Hailey to chuckle.
“It’s actually not that bad.” Hailey stood then, ready to take the boxes back down to storage. “Help me carry that one?” She nodded to the box on the floor.
“Sure!” Vanessa bent down to pick up the heavier box, happy for something to do other than stare at a screen all day.
They made their way downstairs, Vanessa happily chatting the whole time, and set the boxes on the empty shelf in the storage room. Hailey leaned back against the table in the room, feeling winded by the small effort she just exerted. Vanessa came to lean beside her, glancing down at the small bump you could see under Hailey’s shirt. Hailey felt like it was becoming more noticeable by the day.
“So what do you think it is?” Vanessa asked, nodded towards Hailey’s stomach.
“A baby?” Hailey shrugged, laughing when Vanessa scoffed at her answer.
“No shit! I meant boy or girl? The younger girl shook her head, sending Hailey an eye roll.
“I don’t know...I mean, some days I think it’s a girl and then other day’s I’m convinced it’s a boy. Hailey placed a hand over her bump, smiling slightly as she looked down.
“What do you want it to be?” Vanessa gave her stomach a tiny poke, causing Hailey to grin again.
“I don’t really care..” Hailey answered honestly, truth be told she hadn’t really given it a lot of thought anyway.
“What does Jay want?” She waggled her eyebrows at the mention of Jay, a habit she still hadn’t let go of from before they were dating.
“I.. I haven’t asked him actually.” Hailey tilted her head at the realization, wondering what his answer would be.
“Well either way, it’s going to be the cutest baby ever!” Vanessa bent down then, speaking in an obnoxious baby voice to her stomach.
“Come on, let’s get back upstairs.” Hailey rolled her eyes and playfully shoved Vanessa’s shoulders, but still laughed at her antics.
“So what’s Jay going to do with his apartment?” Vanessa asked as they headed towards the stairwell.
“Huh?” Hailey’s face scrunched up in confusion.
“When he moves in with you, what’s he going to do about his apartment?” Vanessa smirked at the look on Hailey’s face. “He is going to move in with you right? I mean, you’re dating, you’re having a baby....your house is way nicer...” Vanessa trailed off and Hailey struggled to focus on the conversation, suddenly images of Jay living in her house and them having a baby together flashing through her mind. They had stopped in the middle of the hallway, or rather Hailey had froze and Vanessa spun around to face her. “I only ask because I may know someone who will be in need of a new place to live soon.” Vanessa gave her a sheepish grin, when she saw Hailey catch on.
“You’re moving out?” Hailey asked, feeling like she was ten minutes behind on this conversation.
“Well I assumed you’re not going to want me bunking in the baby’s nursery.” Vanessa laughed as Hailey was so thrown off by this conversation that she was opening and closing her mouth like a fish out of water.
“Nursery?” Hailey finally managed to get a word out.
“Yea, like the baby’s bedroom....You know it’s going to need a room right? A crib? Changing table? Toys?” Vanessa was enjoying this way to much, it wasn’t often that Hailey’s cool and collected demeanor faltered.
“Yea...I know..” Hailey shook her head in an attempt to clear it, which was unsuccessful as she still felt completely derailed by the thoughts coursing through her head. Kevin came down the stairs then, looking for Vanessa as patrol might have found a case for them. He glanced between the two women, taking in Hailey’s bewildered face and Vanessa’s amused one.
“Hey Kev, you know babies need nurseries right?” Vanessa teased Hailey by bringing him into their conversation.
“Oh hell yea, we designing a nursery?” His voice was full of excitement, which only threw Hailey off more. “I’m a pro at crib assembly. Don’t ask, I’m not gonna tell. But just fyi.” He nodded up the stairs then, signaling to Vanessa that they needed to go. And then Hailey was alone in the hallway, head still swirling. She decided to take a minute in the break room before she rejoined the others in the bullpen. After she splashed some water in her face she stood over the sink and looked at herself in the mirror. Her face was puffier than it normally was, but she assumed that came with the territory of being pregnant. She stood up straight then and turned to look at herself sideways in the mirror. Her bump was definitely noticeable now and it would totally pass as a pregnant belly instead of just a little extra pudge. She smiled at herself in the mirror, hands resting on her stomach and was surprised by how happy she felt with this whole situation. Hailey was about to leave the locker room and head upstairs when she heard footsteps enter the room.
“Hey, there you are.” Jay smiled at her, looking genuinely happy he had found her. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah. Everything’s good.” Hailey replied, walking towards him and breaking their ‘keep it professional at work’ rule by wrapping her arms around his torso. Jay reciprocating and pulling her close. Jay placed a gentle kiss a top her head and looked down at her. Hailey suddenly had tears forming in her eyes, although they were happy ones.
“Hey...” Jay reached his hands up to cup her face, his thumbs softly wiping away the tears that had spilled. “What’s on your mind?”
“They’re happy tears, I promise. I don’t know, I just...feel happy.” Hailey chuckled then at this intense wave of emotion.
“I’m happy too but I’m not crying about it.” Jay said teasingly. He bent down to place a kiss on her lips and Hailey instantly reached her hands up to slide them around his neck, holding him in place. Jay’s hands rested on her waist as they continued their lazy kiss. Hailey nipped at his lower lip and Jay pulled back, raising an eyebrow at her. She grinned up at him, biting her own lip before mouthing ‘sorry’.
“I like this whole raging pregnancy hormones thing, if I would have kissed you like that before you were pregnant you would have shot me.” Jay teased, giving her hips a squeeze before they separated.
“Nah, not shot. Maybe tazed.” Hailey joked, laughing at his offended face. “I can’t help it! You get to close and I just...” She trailed off, raising an eyebrow to imply what she didn’t say out loud. His eye’s instantly shifted from bright and playful to dark and wanting, but before he could act on it his phone when off, causing them both to sigh.
“I gotta go. Looks like the case patrol sent over is legit.” Jay stepped forward to plant a quick kiss on her cheek before turning towards the door.
“Hey one quick thing,” Hailey realized this was a bad time but it was bugging her and she wanted to know. “Boy or girl? If you could pick...”
“Uh....” Jay paused for a second to process her question. “I don’t know. I just want it healthy and happy.” He gave her a sheepish grin and ducked out the door. Hailey found herself standing in the middle of the empty room with a stupid smile on her face over his answer. Happy and healthy sounded good to her.
*******
Hailey got of off work earlier than Jay, thanks to the case they had caught, and decided to make him dinner. She text him that she would be at his place when he got off and then ran to the store to pick up the ingredients for spaghetti, even looking up a quick recipe for meatballs. She stood over the hot stove when he walked in, tossing his stuff on the counter before coming to wrap his arms around her from behind.
“This smells delicious.” He mumlbed against her neck as she stirred the sauce.
“Thanks.” Hailey giggle slightly when his nose brushed the sensitive area below her ear.
“And you look delicious.” His cheesy attempt at flirting caused her to laugh wholeheartedly.
“Get outta here!” She playfully pushed him away, rolling her eyes when he feigned hurt. “It’s almost done.”
Once they were settled at Jay’s small table to enjoy their meal, Hailey let him woof down a few bites before she decided to gently broach the topic that had been on her mind since Vanessa had asked.
“So Vanessa is looking for a new place.” Jay’s eyes shot up to meet hers, confusion evident on his face. “She figured since we’d be setting up a nursery soon...she should start figuring stuff out.” Hailey’s eyes glanced down then, feeling suddenly nervous with where this was about to go.
“I mean...I guess that makes sense..” Jay mumbled, looking a little lost for words.
“I thought maybe...she could move in here..” Hailey’s voice was low and timid as she watched Jay take in what she was saying.
“With me?” Jay asked, looking even more confused now and Hailey laughed at the thought. He obviously hadn’t caught on to what she was getting at.
“No...” Hailey said slowly, palms sweating as she continued. “I was thinking more of a house swap...”
“What?” Jay asked, smiling only because she was but still feeling extremely lost.
“Jay, I want you to move in with me.” Hailey let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. “If you want.” She tacked on at the last minute, panicking that he might not actually want that.
“I’d love that.” He tried to play it cool but Hailey saw right through him and they both ended up with a huge grin plastered across their faces.
“Yea?” She smiled, heart soaring at the thought.
“Of course! Our little family, all under one roof. It sounds great!” Jay spoke so enthusiastically that more happy tears formed in Hailey’s eyes. She laughed and rubbed them away, unable to wipe the smile off her face.
“Okay, we can talk to Vanessa tomorrow after the appointment.” Hailey had almost forgot that her next check up was scheduled for tomorrow, but luckily Voight had given them the morning off so they could go together. Jay nodded in agreement and they finished eating the meal in a happy and content silence, sharing the occasional smile whenever their eyes met and knowing they were feeling the same things. After dinner was cleaned up they skipped the TV and couch and headed straight to bed, where they spent the next few hours doing everything but sleeping.

*whispers seductively in your ear* GrayZa playing the piano together for their kids
Title: Piano
Pairing: Gray/Erza
Genre: Romance/Family
Summary: Gray has mixed feelings towards the piano that suddenly showed up in their living room one day.
Words: 2,408 (I only wanted to write less than 1000 but I’m never good at writing short and sweet yet addicting little ficlets ugh)
A/N: I’M SO HONORED TO GET A SEDUCTIVE ANON GRAYZA ASK!! I’m gonna go all out for this since FT is ending lmao I haven’t written anything and completed it in so long, I don’t think this is good enough but I need to overcome my writer’s block! Do tell me what you think I need validation lmao
Read on FF.net
They have been married for ten whole years.
They have known each other since childhood.
Yet, Gray still can’t understand what goes around in Erza’s mind.
Oh she was definitely a wonderful wife, a reliable comrade and basically everything he had been wishing for ever since he confessed to her under the warm sunset by the river, that was for sure.
One thing he hoped was that if she ever accepted his heart and opened up to him, he could finally be able to understand her better.
But in this case, he really couldn’t understand why there was a PIANO in the middle of the living room. He was pretty sure neither of them knew how to play.
Plus, Erza had never expressed interest in music besides singing in that play for a job request they did all those years ago. (Okay, they may or may not have completed requests similar to that because of Erza’s temporary interest in musicals but nothing about musical instruments).
“Gray! You’re finally back!” Erza practically ran to give him a big hug and a peck on the cheek.
Gray couldn’t hold back his smile. This was the life really. It was the kind of married life he pictured with Erza for a long time - in fact, it was MUCH better than he imagined - because Erza was much more affectionate than he could ever imagine even during one year of courtship. It was actually considered too short of a time for them to date and get to know one another to the other guild members but Gray wanted to make up for the YEARS it took for him to confess, so he didn’t waste time proposing. To his surprise, Erza agreed, saying she’d never find anyone as loyal and loving as Gray ever again, so she’d be dumb to not accept (which had Gray flustered for days).
His wife scanned him before sporting a look of approval. “Oh, you’re coming back from a job without a scratch for once.”
“It was an easy job, of course I’d come back without a scratch!”
“I guess this means you didn’t bump into Natsu and start a fight for no reason.”
“Hey, I’M the one giving him scratches!” Gray paused, “Wait a minute, that’s not the point! Why is there a piano in the middle of the living room?!”
“Isn’t it beautiful?! I’m going to play it to our baby!” She beamed as she softly rubbed her stomach.
Gray was so incredibly weak against the sparkles in her eyes but had to say something. “But Erza, you don’t know how to play the piano.”
“There’s always room for learning! And I will learn for our baby.” She declared. “You can join me too, Gray!” She gave him a big slap on his shoulder and grinned.
He couldn’t win against that look. Erza always had a knack for persuading him. When they were kids, she used her overwhelming physical strength to drag him to join her on missions and whatnot. As teenagers, the armored beauty simply used her cutting words making it almost impossible to argue against her (except a few times, when he wouldn’t back down with his beliefs and Erza couldn’t help but let him do what he wanted).
Then he fell in love and all Erza had to do to persuade him to do things he never thought he would do was to show off those sparkles in her eyes whenever she was excited about something new and hoped he would come along.
Erza probably didn’t realize that at some point she didn’t have to resort to forcibly dragging him. (And he realized maybe, just maybe she thought of him as someone special because she only asked him to join her and no one else. So in his point of view, they were having dates since way before he confessed).
Gray sighed but gave his wife a soft smile. “Well, I suppose learning from a lacrima piano will be easier.” He said as he sat down, quite excited to tap the piano keys.
“Lacrima piano?” Erza asked confused.
Gray turned to her. “Wait, this is a non-lacrima piano?”
“Of course, I must learn with my own strength after all.”
He smiled. “Well I’m sure a regular piano is at least less expensive than a lacrima one.” Erza suddenly had a robotic look. “It IS less expensive, right?”
“…maybe? Regular pianos are rare nowadays, it should be a given they’re a bit expensive, right?”
Gray sighed. Erza had always been quite the spendthrift, finding new armors almost every month. She just couldn’t resist. She had the money so it was up to her to spend on whatever she liked.
But now they were married with already one daughter and a son coming up, she would spend so much on them when their daughter wasn’t even all that interested in wearing tons of clothes in the first place (and she had a tendency to lose them, damn Gray and his stripping habit was apparently inheritable).
They weren’t strapped for cash or anything; in fact they were quite well off – with both Erza and Gray going on S-Class job requests together quite frequently until Erza was pregnant with their first child.
“But this piano will be worth the money, I’m sure of it!” She declared as she curled her hands into a fist (out of habit) and banged on the piano key. The sounds of the piano erupted in protest causing both husband and wife to flinch.
“Why is there a piano in the middle of the living room?”
Gray and Erza turned to see their nine-year old daughter at the doorstep.
“Violet! How was school?” Her mother asked brightly. Then her face quickly changed, “you didn’t get into another fight, did you?”
Gray could feel his sweat dropping. Erza always had to make sure her husband and daughter weren’t fighting unless it was for job requests.
“No! I did what you said and ignored that boy.” She said as she closed the door and walked towards them. Erza smiled proudly as she gave her a brief side hug.
“Should’ve beaten that bully to a pulp.” Gray muttered.
“Why, so that boy can receive the same treatment you did?” Erza teased, making him think back to his embarrassing behavior as a child.
“Hey, YOU were the one that beat me to a pulp, you were the bully!”
“What are you talking about? It was self-defense.” Erza simply responded.
Violet had told them (after lots of prodding) that a boy was annoying her lately and always picked a fight with her at school. Gray had asked if he was Natsu’s son but Violet denied, saying she didn’t even know the name of the kid and why that boy seemed to hate her.
Gray cringed when he remembered what Erza had responded that day.
“Hmm..maybe that boy secretly likes you?” Erza had said out of the blue.
“Hah?” Violet raised an eyebrow doubtfully. “That makes no sense.”
“I know, right? That’s what I thought about your father too.”
Erza ended up telling their daughter about Gray’s embarrassing history of trying to get her attention by challenging her to fights he was obviously going to lose. It took a lot of convincing on his part that - for a long time he was in love with her for the scarlet-haired woman to accept him, (one of them was admitting that he probably liked her ever since they first met) so there was no way Gray could deny it when Erza told their daughter Gray had a lousy way of getting her attention because he liked her.
Violet agreed that it was indeed lousy and immature, to which Gray hastily defended himself that he was just a kid and kids being immature is totally normal.
But hey, if he didn’t do it, there was no way Erza was going to talk to him so…it worked for him…sort of. (He was friend zoned for a long time but Gray was going to bury that tragic part of his love life forever. He didn’t think Erza would bring it up again).
“He didn’t bother me today so it was easy to ignore him.” Violet shrugged. “So where did the piano come from?”
“Your mother wants to play for your new little brother.”
Violet had a brief horrified look on her face.
“What?”
“Mama, if you’re going to play like you did just now; my new brother might come out deaf.”
“I’m going to learn!” Erza defended herself.
“From who? Papa?” Violet couldn’t help but sport a doubtful look. Gray shook his head.
“No, your father would be worse than me.”
“Hey!”
“Regular pianos aren’t easy to learn by yourself, Mama.” Violet reasoned gently. “You should just rest a bit more while you can before my brother comes out.”
Sometimes Gray couldn’t help but be stunned at Violet’s maturity. As she grew older, Gray saw more and more of Erza in her, and a touch of gentleness Gray had rarely seen from Erza when they were children.
Gray was glad that their lives had been much more peaceful and happier ever since Zeref and Acnologia had been defeated all those years ago. Zeref, the source of all the tragedy that had happened towards Gray and Erza in their childhood, had forced them to mature at a young age.
Gray prayed every night that Violet wouldn’t have to go through anything they had.
“I could hire a teacher or something.” Erza pouted, snapping Gray out of his thoughts.
For some reason, both Gray and Violet pictured the worst case scenario of a violent, pregnant woman raging on a poor, defenseless piano teacher.
“No.” They both answered. But Gray quickly added, “Coz you know…I’m not spending money on a teacher that probably isn’t even good enough to teach you.”
What was worse than Erza raging because of her hormones was a crying Erza. It was still his biggest weakness.
Violet rolled her eyes at her father’s excuse.
“I already bought the piano! If I don’t play it, who will?” Erza whined.
Violet let out a deep sigh. “Papa, scoot over.”
Gray and Erza were momentarily stunned. But Erza’s look quickly changed to an excited one. “Get off, Gray.” Violet was already pushing Gray away with her tiny hands.
“Hey!” He was sure both mother and daughter get a kick from bullying him.
As the notes hit their ears, Gray and Erza were transfixed as their daughter’s little fingers gently caressed the ivory keys. A beautiful melody resonated in their home, so different from the usual bickering sessions from none other than her own parents that would result in laughter.
When the melody gradually came to a stop, an explosive applause came from Violet’s side. Her mother was actually tearing up and clapping at the same time.
“I had no idea my baby could play like that!” Erza cried as she smothered her daughter in hugs and kisses.
Violet let out a small smile. She glanced at her father who was just gaping in awe. “Papa, you’re going to drool.”
Gray reddened in embarrassment and quickly snapped out of his trance. “Okay, where did you learn the piano?”
“They teach it at school.”
“They teach regular piano at school? How did we not know this? Since when? Erza stop suffocating the girl she can’t answer me.”
Erza loosened her hold but still didn’t completely let go. Her daughter was too amazing! Now if only Violet learnt her Requip magic too. But her daughter only wanted to learn Ice Make as she wasn’t all that interested in armor like her mother was. Of course, Erza was proud of her daughter learning Ice Make, she always thought Gray’s magic was very beautiful.
But still, she wanted to teach her daughter the few things she knew she was good at. Looking at Gray teaching Violet sometimes made Erza jealous. How was it that she was jealous of her own husband? Even though she was way stronger than him?
“There weren’t enough lacrima pianos when they first started teaching so the teacher let me play on a normal piano. Then once there were more lacrima pianos I said I didn’t want them.” Violet shrugged.
Erza nodded in understanding, the proud look never leaving her face. “Okay, Violet. I approve. You will be my teacher as of today.” She declared, to which Violet replied that her mother would still have to take care of her health if she was going to teach her.
“Erza, you don’t have to learn. Look, Violet can play for our baby.”
Erza pointed an accusing finger at her husband. “Why, are you jealous? That I will be spending quality mother-daughter time by letting her teach me?”
“Pfft – I was already spending father-daughter time when she said she’d learn Ice Make over your Requip!” Gray scoffed.
Violet was expecting her mother to argue back but instead was met with the sound of instant sobbing. “He’s right! Baby why won’t you learn my magic?! I want to be a good mother and teach you things too!” Erza tightly held onto her daughter.
Said daughter shot an annoyed look at her father who was instantly flustered and panicking. “Um…uh –That’s not - ”
Use-less, Violet mouthed to her father.
“Hey!” Gray indignantly rejected the claim.
Thus, ten whole minutes was spent on Violet wiping her mother’s tears and reassuring calmly she was the best mother in the world, while Erza declaring she wouldn’t kiss her husband for the rest of the week.
“Did you hear that Gray? I think our baby likes the piano! He definitely kicked just now!” Erza’s eyes sparkled again.
A soft smile graced his face, yet the ice-make wizard was internally hoping he would at least get an ally out of his son in the future, or else he’d never win in this house with both his beautiful wife and daughter ganging up on him.
