I did not just find an Etsy store using AI fucking photos to sell amigurumi patterns
What bullshit is this??!??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please ignore my tabs I need those but THERE IS NO WAY this isn't AI. Here. Let's take the worst one I found and dissect it.
Tumblr media
Like,,, okay. Just try following the line of yarn in front of the poke ball. It splits off and attaches in ways that yarn doesn't. There are completely detached circles of yarn!! What even is that metal thing?? I've been knitting and crocheting for a decade and I don't know what that is. Why is the yarn wrapped around a jar?!
Is there anything I can do about this? I just feel bad for whoever is gonna buy that sonic the hedgehog pattern (which was NEARLY ME) and gets totally ripped off. Bc if you have to use AI to sell your pattern, something tells me that the real pictures of the pattern's results aren't going to look right.

During a live audio session on Twitter, owner and chairman Elon Musk said his new AI startup, xAI, will use Twitter data for training the "maximally curious" artificial intelligence systems and products he hopes to build there.
Article here
Ok this might be my limit. I haven't been posting on Twitter but I hadn't deleted my acct because I was hoping he'd sell it and things would return to normal. I have a shit ton of stuff over there but I think I have to delete it now.

I fucking hate AI "art". I'm just searching for REFERENCES and 50% of the search is AI generated. No interesting concepts, no ideas behind the images, no nothing. I fucking hate it.

Okay, usually I don’t participate in this stuff but I feel compelled to since
Freaking AI ART IS TRENDING?!
So, AI Art is a good tool to use for inspiration, it’s meant to get your mind flowing with ideas and some fun styles you wouldn’t have thought of on your own.
I’m not going to get into the discussion of “real” or “fake” art in terms of AI art because that conversation is way more complex than Tumblr realizes.
It is unfortunately sourcing all the images used to create the art without permission from the original artists, it’s not an ethical way to make original art. If the art that is used to create these AI generated images were sourced with proper permission from the original creators with credit given, then the conversation would be much different, but that’s not the case.
AI Art is a form of art theft. Please do not support AI Art on it’s own, you can use it as inspiration or a way to get some fresh ideas, but just using AI Art generators to create your own work isn’t going to be your own work.
It’s going to be stolen from another hard working artist.

trying to explain to non artist family members how dangerous ai art and nfts are is so frustrating.
“but look, they’re horsey ones!” (Actual response from my grown adult cousin on nfts)
“pretty soon you’ll be out of a job haha!”
it’s not funny or neutral even to use ai art. It actively fucks up my future and my job, I have to watermark things and do my best to keep my community small so I don’t get my shit stolen (which it has been!) or replicated by some stupid ai. I hate being talked down to because people view artists or those interested in art as little kids that haven’t outgrown it yet. I’m not a toddler, I know what I’m talking about and it’s so annoying that nobody will listen. Ai art and nfts wouldn’t exist without human input to begin with, and it won’t exist in the future if we take all the creativity out of it. It doesn’t exist to be profitable, it exists to show emotions and love that no computer or program will ever be able to replicate with authenticity.

this design was ai-generated and posted on deviantart with the purpose of sale, but ai-generated images aren’t intellectual property, so now it’s yours! free-to-use.

I am going to hold your face so gently and tell you a secret
If we don’t want AI to replace artists and writers we can not base our argument solely on how good or bad we think the work looks and here’s why:
First, this technology is only going to get better at its job over time and someday that won’t be a valid argument any more.
Second, I already can’t tell the difference sometimes and a lot of other people (especially who aren’t artists or writers) can’t tell the difference either, especially since they’re just glancing at it and aren’t looking at it under a magnifying glass
Third, these images are trained with real people’s work meaning that it looks like their work. I’ve already seen real artists complaining that they’re being accused of making machine generated images when it just looks similar because their work’s been stolen. It could also push out new artists who aren’t quite skilled yet, their flaws could be mistaken for proof of machine generation.
I’ve seen so many tips and tricks for figuring out if a picture is generated and it’s a flawed system that sometimes works but someday those tells will be buffed out and those tricks won’t work anymore.
Some day there will be no surface level difference between the two so we need to use the human behind the art as our reason. That person is what actually makes their work worth fighting for.

Guys we have to keep protesting the AI art. If Stephen and The Late Show had tried to use the system and only gotten some twisted version of the No AI protest image, that might have drawn some real attention to what’s going on with these systems.

Of COURSE Tumblr staff turned on the toggle for stealing your data as the default option. Because they KNOW that if it was turned off no one would ever fucking opt in. What a fucking dumpster of staff.
