The National Theater, by Albert Kahn. Built in 1911, abandoned since 1975 and partially demolished in the last week. It seems that they will keep the beautiful facade and it will be reused in a new building.

The Jacobean Revival residence of florist George Headley at 82 King Street, built in 1898, was designed by the firm of George W. Nettleton and a young Albert Kahn, both of whom were previously employed by the offices of Mason & Rice. “Sunrise over Belle Isle Aquarium” Long one my favorite places in Detroit, Belle Isle Aquarium was the oldest continuously operating public aquarium until closing in April of 2005. It wouldn’t open again until September of 2012, thanks to the generous time and money from donors and volunteers. After re-opening, the aquarium was kept open by the same volunteers, even after Belle Isle was made a state park in 2014, who created the Belle Isle Conservancy. Taking advantage of a forced shut down due to Covid 19 precautions, the Belle Isle Conservancy took advantage of the situation and made $1.2M in updates and improvements AND new exhibits! I am also excited to announce that the Aquarium now offers VIRTUAL tours, so for $50, students and other groups (or even interested individuals) can safely tour the aquarium (whose hours are normally only 10-4 Friday-Saturday) from anywhere in the world.
