_ _____________ . in Netherlands. Aldo van Eyck. . オランダの近代主義者であるAldo van Eyck. 空間の細胞分裂性から日本のメタボリズムと関わりがある建築家としての認識しかなかったが、空間と時間を超越した思想の美しさから生まれるEyckの世界に深く陶酔した. . . Amsterdam Orphanage / Aldo van Eyck Eyckは初期から子どものための空間を多く設計した. その中でも用途変更されて子どもの空間から大人のための空間になったのがこの建築. 孤児院からオフィスへと機能が全く転換してしまったのに建築として存続しているのは空間の質が最初に普遍的なものとして設定されていたから. Eyckの建築はほとんどが用途変更されて丁寧に使われている. 低い庇、緩やかな階段. スケールの差異は勿論あるが、その矛盾が前用途のイコンとして蓄積している. . 建築全体が翼を拡げるように敷地に解放されている. それはまるで「集落」のように構成されている. 桂離宮のような雁行型配置で、それぞれのアプローチから焦点が設定され、その都度シークエンスをつくっている. 自律的かつ自己発生的でまるで生物のように空間が移行されていく. また、空間スケールに合わせた素材の選択がなされ、時の流れに沿った素晴らしい年のとりかたをしている. 空間概念と時間概念の両立. . . Wheels of Heaven Church / Aldo van Eyck この教会ではEyckに会ったことのあるお祖母さんが設計思想や宗教に対する姿勢を教えてくれた. Eyckは宗教というものにとても敏感であり、その負の要素を理解していた. 宗教が嫌われる側面があるのは、その厳格性が故に極度に教義的になってしまうから. しかし、生きていく上で宗教は必要で、Eyckはそれを生活に組み込んだ. 教会という厳格なものに「揺らぎ」をつくった. 内部は矛盾による対立概念に満ちている. 円と四角が同空間に常に対峙している. 梁にスリットを入れ、重さの中に軽さを、共存させた. そして、それらの衝突が現れる所をデザインすることによって美しさに転換した. 対立によって生まれた揺らぎは外部からは想像できない力を秘めた内部空間を生んでいる. Orphanageが外部への遠心力なら、この建築は内部へと求心する力. . 更に絶対的存在であるアプシスを分化させ、それに付随する機能を解体した. 教会形式の崩壊によって宗教をより日常的なものに寄り添わせた. よって恒常的な時間性を獲得したが故に建築として朽ちていく姿が美しい. . . Eyckの建築は絵本の物語を具現化したようで、子どもが描いたような空間の筋書きに難題が隠れている. 絵本がときに哲学的命題であるように. おそらく、これから何度も反芻するであろう建築. . .
