The Storm's Eye
Word Count: 3730
Fandoms: Creepypasta, Slender: The Arrival
Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence
Characters: Kate Hayes, Beth Hayes, Lauren, Eyeless Jack Slenderman
Additional Tags: Hurt No Comfort, Mentions of Cancer, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm, No Explicit Self-Harm, Implied/Referenced Suicide Attempt, Blood and Injury, Mild Gore, The inherent trauma of not being allowed to die, Kate has a bad time, Dream Sequences but they're not really dreams.
Summary:
Kate forced her eyes open once more, looking at Lauren above her, and she tried to ignore how the space behind her head seemed to shimmer, shifting like a worm wriggling beneath the earth, leaving a disrupted path in its wake. It lasted for as long as she could keep her eyes open. Everything disappears when her eyes close. The solidness beneath her, the gentle warmth cradling her skin, Lauren. All that remains is that stubborn light, always too far in the distance. Was it a star? Her mind struggles to find a word for it. A star, her star. Could she touch it? Maybe… Maybe she could try. But it never gets any closer, as if kept away from her by a force she could never put her finger on.

If Era 2 Mistborn Characters and Stormlight Characters Met Each Other...
We already considered how Era 1 Mistborn characters & Stormlight characters would get along. But what about Era 2 Mistborn?
[Includes spoilers through The Lost Metal & Rhythm of War!]
1. Dalinar & Wax
Wax: It’s something, isn’t? Finding a new love after losing your first one?
Dalinar: It was not something I expected or believed could happen, after I lost Evi.
Wax: Yes, especially when it’s you who accidentally killed your first love...
Dalinar: Er, yes...
Wax: ...and then killed her again, but on purpose the second time...
Dalinar: ...Metaphorically, you mean?
Wax: No.
2. Navani & Ranette
Ranette: So this glove makes its wearer just...shoot off in the direction it’s pointing??
Navani: Er...yes. It’s just a prototype. I assure you, I have many more inventions that...
Ranette: I am 100% giving this to Wayne.
3. Renarin & Steris
Steris: So...you can see all possible futures?
Renarin: Well, maybe not all. But I can see the possibilities expanding out like broken glass.
Steris: ...
Renarin: I know. It is forbidden to see the future, and belongs to corrupted spren but I...
Steris: [literally vibrating with excitement]
Steris: I have never wanted anything more!
4. Jasnah and MeLaan
Jasnah: So you can craft your body to be as you wish it?
MeLaan: Sure can! And I did the whole stately, breasted boobily look for a while!
Jasnah: ...
MeLaan: Been into androgyny lately.
Jasnah: Yes, I can see how having both options would be enormously advantageous.
MeLaan (conspiratorially): But most importantly I can turn my skin transparent and show off MY GLOWING BONES!!
Jasnah: I am going to write many papers about you.
5. Veil & Wayne
Wayne: Nice hat, mate!
Veil: Thanks! You could say it makes me the woman I am!
Wayne: New hat, new you? Trust me, I get that plenty!
Veil: Yeah, I get the feeling you do!
6. Rock & Allik
Rock: These pastries are wonderful, friend! You are far less of an airsick-lowerlander than most men I know!
Allik: My people have airships!
Rock:  Ha! That must be why!
7. Paalm & Taravangian
Taravangian: I am a very big fan of the whole “Kill as many people as it takes to free the world from a god’s influence,” my friend.
Paalm: Thanks, I guess.
Paalm: I like the way you literally stole your god’s body and took it over.
Taravangian: And “Bleeder!” What a great name! I’ve bled a few people to death myself, you know.
Paalm: I think your world is very lucky you haven’t discovered Hemalurgy.
Paalm: Yet.
8. Marasi & Shallan
Marasi: Oh wow, the Ghostbloods tried to recruit me too!
Shallan: The promise of interplanetary knowledge is pretty tempting, huh?
Marasi: Oh man, it so was!
Marasi: But I had to turn them down. And I appreciated how nice they were about it!
Shallan: ...Nice?
Marasi: Oh yeah! Just all “Lovely to meet you. Thanks for considering us. Have a great life!”
Shallan: On my planet they literally tried to sell a child!

Thoughts on The Bands of Mourning
Everything about this book is a bundle of pure fun. It’s just like an Indiana Jones adventure!
The breakout character this time is definitely Steris. I was shocked to find out a character could develop so much in such a small amount of pages. But, Sanderson did it with Steris. And to me, she’s insanely relatable. I was literally saying aloud “SHE’S JUST LIKE ME FR 😭” So much I could gush about her omg.
Wax x Steris is better than Vin x Elend. There, I said it. I also started to become a fan of Wax’s character arc - his arc of finding his true position in the world. Wax’s arc feels more subtle than the Era 1 characters and his personality is definitely more rigid than them, but I think I can appreciate it.
Allik was hilarious. Wayne x MeLaan was pretty wholesome and fun. Marasi is always great ❤️
The highlight of this book’s plot was definitely the Southern Scadrians and their Metallic Arts technology. A complaint I’ve had about the Mistborn Saga is that its world and history either feels too small or too shallow, even though there are reasons. This book definitely didn’t eliminate it, but it did mitigate it. The Southern Scadrians’ mask culture sounds intriguing, AND THEIR TECH!!! I’m so excited to find out more about them.
Another highlight of the plot, even though it came during the Sanderlanche, was the conversation between Wax and Harmony. This helped me realize that Sazed is still Sazed, but a Sazed that realizes the complexities of being God. Apart from the issues behind the Shard of Harmony mentioned in book 5, it seems like he’s trying to be different from Preservation. Even with Sanderson’s hazy writing of Era 1’s themes, I felt Preservation was indirectly portrayed as a coddling force. Much like the Lord Ruler, it could be a force who wants to protect, keep things stable, and keep the status quo even at the cost of change and lives.
Granted it’s fuzzy because of The Plan, so I could be reaching lol. Anyway, those attributes clearly aren’t Harmony or Sazed. Harmony is representative of a perfect balance with Ruin’s attributes, and Sazed wants to change Elendel and drive innovation. I love that Sanderson made this clear. I also love the mention of Harmony’s futuresight and his insight into Wax’s mind. It shows he really thought about all future possibilities before deciding Wax needed to go through pain for Paalm and the world’s sake.
And I’m pretty confident Harmony placed Wax’s group in place to stop the Set from getting the ettmetal bomb and Bands. His lines about Trust remind me of what Preservation did throughout his several thousand year long plan, but moderated/expanded with the Shard Ruin’s attributes and Sazed’s outlook.
Harmony’s speech about choices made me cry 😭
I’m shook by the Sovereign twist lmao. Kelsier is the Sovereign?! What the hell is going on?!
I have several theories but I’m sure some will be answered in Secret History and Lost Metal.

Mistborn Era 2 Characters’ Opinions on the Oxford Comma Debate
Steris: uses it religiously.  Cares deeply and has the evidence to back up why it’s important
Marasi: knows what it is and uses it most of the time, but sometimes skips it when she’s in a hurry or just making notes for herself
Wax: knows what it is, but used to leave it off deliberately to distance himself from the fancy rich people he grew up with.  Now uses it consistently to make Steris happy.
Lessie: doesn’t know or care what an oxford comma is
MeLaan: generally doesn’t see the point, but will use it if her current role requires it
VenDell: uses it unless he’s forced to leave it off
TenSoon: doesn’t have hands
Wayne: will express strong opinions if you catch him in the right hat.  These opinions have little to no connection with actual rules of grammar, and everyone’s pretty sure he has no idea what an oxford comma is.
Ranette: really doesn’t care.  Uses it inconsistently, when it feels needed
Allik: doesn’t fully understand the debate because of translation issues.  Would have picked it up from Steris and Marasi except that Wayne convinced him to leave it out (as part of a ploy to annoy Steris)
Bonus: Marsh: uses it consistently, but isn’t going to draw attention by correcting anyone else’s grammar
Bonus Bonus: Ati: corrects other people’s grammar to add in oxford commas when they write sentences that leave it out

More Lost Metal Thoughts
The Lost Metal should have been longer. If Brandon really wanted to include extensive scenes with brand new ghostblood characters then he also should have included scenes with the characters we love too.
It should have just been a longer book with better pacing. It’s so strange to me that MeLaan was a huge part of books two and three and she just sort of leaves in the first few chapters and we don’t hear from her again until the end.
Allik and Marasi should have been given more time as a couple. I love Brandon but I don’t actually think he’s that amazing at writing couples.
It just felt like all of the group dynamics we loved in Bands of Mourning were gone, replaced with the Ghostbloods who don’t have nearly as much chemistry (at least that we see). It’s like taking a marvel end-of-credits scene and smacking it down into the middle of a solo movie.
It just didn’t work for me. Did it tie some stuff up? Yes. But was it a satisfying end to the story of Wax and Wayne and Marasi and Steris? Not really. At least not in my opinion.
I’m kind of mourning the book we could have had instead of celebrating the book we got, which is an odd position for me to be in with the Cosmere.

Kira and Jackson! (For all three, Inell has good ideas)
Damn y'all, you both have great ideas but they make my life harder!
Kira vs Jackson: Baby girl already defeated one Kanima Chimera, and since Jackson is technically a werewolf but with a tail still (??) he's kiiiind of a chimera too(?), so I hand it to Kira. Even before he was saved in s2, I think she'd be able to take him on, and she could also beat him in lacrosse I bet.
Kira or Jackson: I can't believe you expect me to be able to choose... I started to say Kira because she's been my girl since day 1 of seeing her, but I also am extremely fond of Jackson after my most recent s1-2 rewatch. For longevity's sake I'll say Kira, but for overall, I'd say it's a tie.
Kira + Jackson: platonic, romantic, and/or sexual :3 I am a big fan of Jackira in pretty much any arrangement, though I'm suddenly realizing how interesting an adopted!Jackson Yukimura could be?? What if Noshiko never left Beacon Hills after the internment camp, instead making it her home and helping Talia with the supernatural shenanigans, so giving her Jackson to care for along with her and Ken's new baby Kira would make sense. That, and the possibility of Malia and Jackson being twins so Kira having that connection with growing up with Malia's brother????? fjakl;fa I am Thinking Thoughts now
send two characters for who would win, who is my favorite, and/or how I ship them!

Summary:
Two small, white puppet-like creatures stare at him. Stitched crosses bore down on him, weighed with the same feeling that he had felt for years, eyes that were never really there watching his every move. Twin heads mimicked his movements, joining Brian in his curiosity.
They feel familiar. Humming aloud in agreement to the voice that sounded right behind his eyes, their head tilted in the other direction and a brief smile cracked open behind the fabric mask as the puppets mimicked him once more. Like Him.
...
You know, Hoodie begins as Brian crouches in front of a tangled mess of roots, head tilted to the side as he engages in what could only be called a staring contest with the puppets in front of them, They're kinda cute, in a way.

Characters: Kate Hayes, Slender Man.
Additional Tags: Background Tim Wright, Canonical Character Death, The Hunt, Slender Mansion, Slender Sickness, Amnesia, Kate Hayes-Centric, Angst, Kate Hayes has Prosopagnosia, Mentions of Corpses
Summary:
Eyes stared back at her. Wide and brimmed with unshed tears as they darted between her and the crouched figure in dirtied white. Dragging an already bloodied blade across bars she had scrubbed till her knuckles bled, skin splitting over bone. … Looking in at that cage was much different than looking out, finding herself back in that position as she stares at a carved smile, taunting words echoing in her ears. Branded to her memory. Mindlessly, a hand rests on her arm, remembering how her skin, raw and healthy, peeled as she tore her body away from the frozen metal. Sat amongst bones sliced clean, tossed without care. It was closed. It was still closed. Rarely, rarely ever had the cage door been open. Kate was sure she could count on one hand, nay, a finger, the number of times she had seen that door open. So why now did it affect her so?

Characters: Kate Hayes, Lauren, Eyeless Jack
Additional Tags: Slender Sickness, Mirror Situations, I saw a quote too many times and now here this is, Mentions of Slender Man, Sickfic, Pre-Slender: The Arrival, Angst, Sad with a Happy Ending, kind of, a sprinkle of Pining, Post-Slender: The Arrival, mentions of vomiting, mentions of seizures, Pre-Relationship
Summary:
“Kate?” A voice called from downstairs, echoing through ageing walls. Picking her head up, Kate’s scribbling hand halts, mindless in its motions. Blinking, she realises the ache in the back of her neck, stemming right where her head met her spine. And beneath her hand, three pages sat on the wood of her desk, one covered top to bottom in a symbol, one she had drawn ever since she knew how to, of a cross in a circle, over and over until not even a border was left on the page. Beside it, a crude drawing of the radio tower, and beneath that, a barely legible scribble of the word ‘Safe’. Flicking her eyes over the last page, Kate immediately screwed it into a ball and yet still, the faceless thing stared at her.

Fandom: Marble Hornets
Relationship: Brian Thomas/Tim Wright
Additional Tags: Established Relationship, Post-Marble Hornets, Brian lives, Brian needs a hug, Tim needs a hug, everyone needs a hug, Mentioned Acute Memory Loss, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Light Angst
Summary:
“Can you promise us something, Tim, Masky?” Feeling Hoodie as if he was looking right behind his own eyes, Brian swallowed the steadily growing lump in his throat, ignoring the twitch of barely hidden distaste in Tim’s face. Though, the silence that lingered between them was enough for him to continue. “Don’t put yourself in a situation where I have to bury you first.” … “What’re you saying?” And oh, he felt something shatter. Despite desperate attempts to gather the pieces and build it back up again and again, the corners of his mouth dipped, quivering as Brian inhales sharply. Ever-changing words laying at the tip of his tongue. “Don’t die before me.” Those were the ones forced into the air, spoken through a mouth that was his own and yet not controlled by him. Words meant for one another, yet spoken for one particularity.

To Love Is To Be Changed
Word Count: 1248
Fandoms: Slender: The Arrival,
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Kate Hayes.
Additional Tags: Mentions of Lauren, Mentions of Slender Man, Canonical Character Death, Murder, Love Languages, Pining, Keeping your friend's memory alive by taking pieces of her and absorbing them, Kate needs therapy, so much therapy
Summary:
This was the woman who tied her hair back with a hairband warm from strands of sunlight. Hands that batted away her own to undo her laces when she would drag her body back through the threshold of her home, hands that gently, oh so carefully, corralled her into her room with promises that embedded into the rotting walls of her home. This wasn’t the woman whose eyes were caught on anything that reminded her of her best friend. Wasn’t the woman who made sure to keep Lauren’s favourite foods in the house, just on the chance that she would come over. Wasn’t the woman who dragged a body, weighed with death, through the forest just to win a favour. An apology, was that what it was? Or was it guilt? Misplaced and still not settled, not even when she raised that slab of wood above her head, shaking hands driving it into the dirt between her feet.

Additional Tags: Slender Sickness, Angst, Pining, So much pining, Vomit mention, Post-Slender: The Arrival, No Happy Ending
Summary:
Kate had always thought that it was better to have loved and lost than to not love at all. And in a way, she still believed that. But, in a way, she wished she had never loved at all. Never loved the girl she gave the necklace to, never loved the way her eyes sparkled like emeralds, never loved the way her hair shone like sunlight. Never loved the way she made her feel so wholly seen, never loved the way her hands felt when they would ghost over her skin, never loved how she would treat her so kindly, holding her hair back as she vomited up nothing but acid and blood.

Additional Tags: Periods, Mentions of Disembowelment, Mentions of Surgery, Established Relationship, Jack is a sniffer dog in 'human' skin, Domestic Fluff
Summary:
Never, had she thought, could a bed she had no choice in be so comfortable. And yet, when she would drag exhausted limbs through into the sanctity of her room, her face discarded on her bedside table and her bloodied and battered clothes discarded in a lump on the floor, it only took a minute, if not seconds, for Kate to sink into the same mattress and fall deep asleep. Those times, nowadays at least, she would find herself falling asleep in one position and waking up in another. More often than not, moved to her side of the bed and tucked under covers she had no recollection of sleeping under, let alone pulling over herself.

Additional Tags: Minor Brian/Tim, Past and Present tenses, Canonical Character Death (Lauren STA), Kate and her relationship with The Hunt, Author can't go a single Kate fic without mentioning the fire, Light Angst, Hurt no Comfort, Kate and her relationships with the other proxies, Complicated Relationships.
Summary: She had felt her intestines squirm and wriggle for months after being sewn up, and that wasn't pleasant either. Kate wasn't supposed to feel her organs, and yet there it was, rubbing up against each other as it tried to squirm back into their proper positions.
From her very first Hunt after surviving her own, she had fled to the mines the day before it took place and stayed there, hiding from her repeating past only a few miles away. It was the first time she had willingly travelled through the forest and not from the pull that had manifested within her head, beckoning her to the mines as it crawled with uninvited visitors.

Warnings: Graphic Descriptions of Violence
Relationships: Kate The Chaser/Eyeless Jack
Additional Tags: Murder, Monstrous Eyeless Jack, Non-Sexual Intimacy and Nudity, Improper workplace relationship (probably), Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Baggage, Irish Kate Hayes
Summary:
At first, she was sure that if she peeked her head around, she would see the back of the head split open, brain matter dripping down. She wondered, would she see whoever this body had been? A life cut short just for a wrong decision, a wrong turn. Once human and now nothing above an uncooked steak on an oversized plate. Would she see their last moments, branded into their brain? See herself staring back at her, acting every bit the animal that He had branded her as. Stepping back several steps, “Now you can eat.” Kate takes several more steps back as Jack barrels towards them, missing her by bare inches before tearing into the body, fabric littering the floor before blood joins it, made worse by a lack of Jack’s usual delicacy and precision.
