wxs and arm wrestling part one: nene
tsukasa vs nene- hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby. tsukasa will express surprise at her strength while she struggles to get his arm to budge 💀 the worst part is that he's genuine, he didn't expect to put effort in LMAO. he boasts 'even with more training, ofc u cant beat me 😏', then proceeds to prolong the match by keeping his arm still. she gets so miffed and tries even harder LMAO. she doesn't win though bc tsukasa gets tired and ends it faster than she can process. he brags at the end despite doing nothing
emu vs nene - hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby part 2. emu cheerily confirms that nene did get stronger, and there's only a brief struggle before she pins nene's arm down. she's very encouraging that she hopes nene gets big and buff!!!
rui vs nene- hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby part 3. nene feels like she's pushing against steel. she gets to look as he leans his annoyingly smug face on his other hand, barely breaking out a sweat. he's a mix of emu's genuine encouraging words and tsukasa's irritating lack of response. he wins after she goes 'just end it 😒'
nene's like 'idk what you guys expected....' and sits off to the side. she finds that she enjoys watching the other three arm wrestle rather than doing it herself

ch 103
WOO!! I was actually able to acquire the official release on my husband's phone this time, and I hope we can continue to do that... buuut given those files don't seem to be (???) high quality or easy to cap+transfer, I'll just use DBS's nice HQ stuff for posties :3
uuuu its all so exciting...
Tumblr media
oh Nene-chan... what could you possibly feel....
there is something so funny about both Mitsuba and Nene-chan overlapping on "uuhhhh I ... don't want to talk to The Boys about this..." for multiple reasons lol. You both have difficult guys don't you.......... these DV boyfriends...
Tumblr media
everyone's perception of Amane as being like scared of Tsukasa is so funny grrgljh.... but also....He is wimpy. Just in a way you can't imagine ...
its funny that Kou and Mitsuba both think of Tsukasa as 'the scary/stronger one' ... I don't think you idiots are right at all, lol....
Tumblr media
so real for this Mitsuba. Look, you don't know Tsukasa or Amane well, but you have Kou pegged. But to be fair he isn't complicated at all, is he.....
it is so funny to hear Nene-chan just say this so bluntly
Tumblr media
like.. yes ... lol ... Hanako and Kou together... isn't it always because Hanako is being suspicious, and Kou needs to profile him about it... lol.
Tumblr media
guy can't run around with a big sack or look at a clock without a cop asking him what he's up to >>:/
the patented Hanako-kun big pause before a lie followed by a big extremely fake smile
Tumblr media
don't you ever trust this expression, okay?
Tumblr media
Kou and Hanako are so . dl;fjs. why do anything together. I love them both being jealous freaks (their only overlap) and not really able to pretend to also hang out organically, LOL ...
Tumblr media
Mitsuba really and truly called Hanako and Kou insane and then intentionally bear baited them ... he really is a masochist, isn't he...
ok, real thoughts and favorite panels...
Tumblr media
appreciating how shrimpy and threadbare Aida's depiction of this boy is...;; I'm excited to see more new-age art of this boy... she's honed her shotas over the years very well... the YenPress translation had made me laugh though, it was worded more like "Hanako-kun was always crying and hurt" it just accidentally was a little inelegant... like damn, drag him .... made me imagine Hanako would be defensive if he heard her thoughts, like "hey, you only saw me for a second, wait..."
it's such an interesting view of Amane, seeing him as a tragic and miserable boy for all of his past...
ah. diseased... seeing him so charming and handsome. oh no--one of those panels, that makes me, pity Nene-chan, you love him too much... you're too weak to all of this, aren't you?? yabai....
Tumblr media
but. I'm really excited for Nene-chan to get to directly see their past...
Tumblr media
I think it was so far from 'nothing but sorrows'. Wouldn't it be more shocking, actually, to see him in moments of joy and revelry, at 12? How would you marry that kind of Amane, with the one you saw at 13? How can any of that make sense? It would be easier to grasp if he was always enduring torture. We saw so many little blips of the boys as children... so happy together! Amane's problem couldn't have been that his life was so terrible, exactly. Amane's problems could always be instead that something is very special to him, and he wants it to stay that way....
Tumblr media
but ah, what's so interesting about this to me, is Nene-chan reaching the same conclusion Amane is often reaching-- his rationale behind keeping her in the dark, hiding secrets from her...
Tumblr media
... wishing you could preserve someone's innocence, or cluelessness, their happiness... it's really all Amane's wanted to do for Nene, and what she's continuously fought against.
Tumblr media
I think Nene-chan is really growing haha, after the 'Far Shore', 'Red House', she's grasping the kind of intensity she was being protected from... what it feels like to want to protect someone's peace and happiness.... to wish they didn't have to see ugliness, didn't need to be dragged into it all...
ah, and she's the one who is always so upset....
Tumblr media
always feeling coddled and kept from things
Tumblr media
it's always Hanako's desire! To keep her from things that will upset her....
its funny that it's something she's subjecting Hanako to, now... but Nene-chan has long been making the decision to keep experiences and information she acquires a secret from Hanako. It's a little funny to feel she wants to coddle Hanako ...
but it's also of course like, not 'accurate' to assume he doesn't remember a lot... obviously he's referenced his thoughts and feelings and experiences from the past, many times, but it's fair for Nene-chan to not quite understand the extent of his memory issues, given how many of those experiences/moments he references things happen without her there, at all...
anyway, love this....
Tumblr media
it makes me pleased to directly see Minamoto methods unable to effect the crane as much as they can't effect tsueshiro'd Hanako... between being a yorishiro, and the tsueshiro, there's a sense that the Minamoto could not do very much to/about Tsukasa when it comes down to it .... ? The yorishiro are an aspect of a God... it takes a kannagi to do anything towards them. I'm glad the beads did absolutely nothing to hold or bind it. and I'm glad Teru can detect what it is via how it was able to damage him and unable to be restrained..... nice and useless~
The Minamoto really are suspiciously aligned, since the beads /can/ bind Kou....
anyway
sometimes i worry about the way iro-sensei writes simps....
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
kowai.... but my husband is like this, so....
natsuhiko i cannot believe you've already been recording her for 8 minutes....
Tumblr media
she looks beautiful though! And I'm happy she's getting to play...~ and its cute Natsuhiko is so excited to watch her participate in things~~ he really is uh... more noble than Hanako, isn't he, LOL?
now for the biggest twist of my life....
Tumblr media
I CANNOT BELIEEEEEEEEVE THE
HOT GUY JUICE STAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY GETS
Tumblr media
CONTEXT????????????????? somehow REFERENCED AS A CONCEPT??????
Tumblr media
I have spent SO LONG, as my husband can attest, questioning these utterly inscrutable images from VOLUME 16 TIMES (?????) of seemingly an AU where there is a. hot boy pop-up juice stand. I've looked at the images like-- "what on earth is the context where it's like a temporary pop-up in a ?? park ??? but we're wearing ??? suits ???? ? ? ? ????"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's the matching Nene-chan to the juice boys (dressed in the same outfit as she is in the juice stand image)
Tumblr media
there are too many illustrations of this thing, and never has there been any context. It like happens with AUs, but I feel like I could make sense of them occasionally.....
even if this is ? a concept ? for school festivals ? in any sense, I'm relieved Sakura herself also has no idea what the hell this is ... I have always looked at these images like... "...this isn't some kind of period AU because Nene-chan is in normal modern clothes...." but what is with these tweed colorful suits ... it looks so busted. NOt what I find sexy at all. They look , so bad. And I'm like "who wants to see a SHOTA like this..."
anyway if Natsuhiko proceeds to look like this later I'll finally, lay my soul to rest, I guess. Hot Boy Juice Stand.... Aida, Iro, which of you do I blame this on.... I wonder if iro was working on the manuscript for this chapter back when vol16 was being published or something, so Aida just wanted to get to draw the concept more whimsically for fun... musta been on the brain.....
anyway.
Tumblr media
whenever we share complete sentences and exchanges with the joudai........................................... what on earth are these things lol.... we're gonna wind up learning they are like special fragments of the Yugi's souls or something.......... but like, really 0 theories 0 thoughts, I have no idea why these can have sweat drops and get nervous or excited or have a unique response ... they are . a peoples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
does it mean anything that they are both talking to the one with an O shaped hole not filled in ..... what on earth does it sound like when it talks back....
I'm really excited for everyone's position here, though....
Hanako is already trying to figure out the clock, seemingly. Or he has something he's not telling anyone, about it....
Natsuhiko and Sakura are gunning for the Clockkeeper's yorishiro...
but Tsukasa of the past seems to be guiding Nene-chan into acquiring time's power.
I'm thrilled with whoever gets whatever, but I hope Nene-chan can surprise everyone, somehow~~ I'm never quite sure how 'on the same page' the Broadcast Club truly is... or if Tsukasa has his own ultimate agenda... as we get into the last couple of mysteries, it'll have to interfere at last....
sigh.... I wonder if the key she took from Amane will finally come back into play... if only it was a key pertaining to that secretive place, to repair the clock. Or something....
ah, I'm excited to see us using Shijima-san's power~...
its all toooo exciting, so much going on ^^!!!!!! I feel like everything I have 0 idea about is coming up all at the same time, all at once, which is a good thing, lol.....! I would love to understand anything ♥

Nene Kinokuni & the main theme of “Shokugeki no Soma”
You thought I was done talking about Nene? HA
Okay but I’ve been looking at a specific manga panel again & eventually a train of thought started to roam my head.
Tumblr media
What we see here are the reactions of four of the Elites that voted Central into power after having witnessed Rindou’s and Eishi’s loss, therefore Central’s loss as a whole.
Can we talk about the fact how Nene actually looks the most...hurt about that maybe?
I mean, Somei honestly looks kind off glad about it, which does make sense since he seemed to visibly regret his decision after his match against Soma. Somei is that guy that acted with good interest in mind, and a sense of justice, but was lured into an extreme solution. Which is something I can’t really say about any of the other Traitor Elites (I mean, being real we have barely gotten much detailing to their individual reasoning for helping out Azami but that’s another problem for another day.)
Momo looks completely unaffected by what just happened, while Eizan looks...kind off bummed ig?
Out of these four, Nene really does looks the most like what I would call “sad”. She looks truly crushed by this revelation.
A little mind game for you: Imagine having devoted your entire life to something, imagine already being insecure about people surpassing you in an area you studied so hard for, imagine being beat at the thing that’s most important to you while the person who was always ahead of you succeeds right next to you.
My girl really went through quite some suffering if you really start thinking about it.
Top student of her class, who always aimed for perfection. And then the RDC comes along and she suffered through what might have been her first major failure in front of over one hundred eyes.
Now this is the part where I try my best to sound smart and talk about themes.
I’d say that the closest to a major theme the series of “Shokugeki no Soma” has would be the thematic of failure.
Our main hero Soma Yukihira talks of “failure” as a sort of inspiration. He recognizes mistakes he made, learns out of them and improves through them. That’s his philosophy & strongly opposes that of our main heroine, Erina Nakiri who starts out as a through & through perfectionist who was never allowed to make the tiniest of mistakes.
The theme of “failure” constantly reappears in the story, in both the strong parts & weaker parts of it.
Soma’s dish in the Autumn Election Premlins is basically a fusion of two dishes that “failed” him before (his omelette from the Trainings Camp that had him in danger of getting expelled & the risotto he made in his cook-off against his father, which he lost), the major antagonist of several arcs named Central is all about perfectionism with the 1st seat Eishi Tsukasa being a notorious perfectionist as well, in his final fight against Asahi Soma makes a dish inspired by his mother who was known for being a bad cook, but who had fun being one...
I think what “Shokugeki no Soma” wants to teach us is that it’s natural for us to stumble at times, but that it’s nothing we should beat ourselves up over. No one can walk a straight, perfect line in their life and it’s okay. Mistakes can teach us and we can get up again as well...!
I can’t really say that it was always done very well, but still this message resonates with me on a very personal level. I really like it.
And now let me spiral back to Nene.
Nene is another character that strived for perfection and is characterized as someone who works incredibly hard to master whatever she picked to study. She also sided with Central, which is also all about perfectionism as I said.
Remember when I said that there’s still work you could have done with Nene after the RDC arc was over?
Yeah, honestly with that failure Nene ended up suffering I really think there could have been a loot of character work done with her.
Like how about just showing her cope with what happened? Show her, trying to understand why the philosophy of the rebels beat theirs? Something like that?
I just genuinely believe that Nene is a sort-off person who’d struggle dealing with failing in the way that she did and that it would have an actual impact on her. And her working through that would fall perfectly in line with the main theme the manga has going on.
Post-RDC could have been a perfect chance for her to also understand the people surrounding her a little better as well, I think? Like take Eizan for example! No, this is not for shippy reasons. I promise...hear me out, okay? She belittled him for his loss against Soma & also considered herself superior to him because she has an actual moral-code. But eventually she ends up in the same boat with him: she also looses against Soma, Central (something which they both supported after all) looses as a whole and while their senpais get to run off little later through graduation, they have to stay at Totsuki, dethroned. What a perfect chance to getting to know and understand each other in a way that wasn’t there before, finding a way to get those seats back and maybe giving Eizan an actual redemption arc instead of just inserting him back into the council over night with no real indication wether he’s still a bitch or has become more tame, which surely isn’t something Tsukuda would do, right? Heh. (Okay maybe...this....did get a little bit shippy, pardon ahdhd)
ANYWAY
The point I’m really just trying to make here, through many, many words is that while Soma’s Shokugeki against Nene heavily scratched her character and I’m still very bitter and unhappy over it, I do not think there was any need to shaft her as much as the manga did when the RDC got concluded.
There was a good chance for actual character work and character development here, that could have also played into the series’ centric theme.
& She frankly could have come back as more stronger and badass than ever.
But yeah, instead she was ignored in the manga while the anime adaptation...tried but I feel she was reduced to much of a satellite character in that one, personally. And I just think they could have done better and more, meep.
In the end all I can do is......write a Nene-centric multi chapter fanfic of course and take 6 years to finish it because I’m very slow and-
Okay but I think one thing that I want to achieve with these posts is just to get the community think about her a little more, because...ultimately I feel she’s being a little bit overlooked by the fandom as well, and maybe I can inspire some people to work with her in a way that Tsukuda wasn’t able to...Idk, I just want justice for Nene ig.
Now anyway, you finally made it to the end of this post...Congratulation! Here’s a cookie!
Hopefully what I said made any sense and any of you could get a little something out of it! Thanks for reading ;v; !

Name: Fujioka Shiori (First name means "poem")
Personality:
Social introvert. Can usually be mistaken as extrovert because of her good social skills and charm towards people.
Bubbly, polite, and dynamic towards general people; is usually serious, serene, and edgy/dark humorist around friends.
Likes psychology and is good at reading people (even apparitions!?)
Good at difficult things, hopeless at some practical things
Hobbies:
Reading books of interest (is usually bored with textbook or required book reading/assignment)
Loves to draw and experiment with creativity
Videogames when she has time
Studying and collecting occult things
Being a huge nerd
What's your favorite snack?
Blueberry cheesecake. Is that a snack?
What's your biggest concern lately?
That Nene would not liken her fate to mine.
Role in the main story (if anime only, do not read; may contain spoilers):
Shiori was the student assistant of Hanako before Nene. They were incredibly close. As most of Hanako's past assistants, Shiori fell in love with Hanako too, but Hanako never took her seriously because he pressumed Shiori was just friendly towards other people and apparitions. Hanako never cared who died anyway. For him, granting the summoner's wish is his job to make his/her life happy until s/he has to leave.
Her role in the story does not revolve around love and romance. Hanako knew from the very start that everyone who can summon him will die nearly soon. However, due to weird circumstance, Shiori never died even though she was only given last 6months as her lifespan from the time she met Hanako. The reason? Only Shiori knows. She never told Hanako. And ever since their bond had broken after 6months of contract, she was never able to see Hanako or any apparition again. When Shiori saw Nene, she got suspicious that maybe she was Hanako's new partner, so she befriended her to guide her from afar, not touching Hanako and her's past. She only claims to know a lot about Hanako from the books she had read. Every advice she gives Nene actually works and Nene has always been grateful for her guidance. Weirdly enough, Hanako can never see her even if she exists or even if they walked past each other, same as her.
Theories how she survived?
1. She became the 8th mystery. Oh, has she? And how? (It has been hinted in the OP Song)
2. She never had those key pin on her hair and that earrings while she was with Hanako. Where did she get those? WHO gave those??
3. Only people to whom Hanako cared about will die. The stronger the attachment of the Mystery, the stronger the push towards the other side. Since Hanako never cared about Shiori unlike he did to Nene, maybe that's a possible answer?
4. If ever you have read this far, any theory you can generate?
Answer:
3 days before the last day of Shiori's life, she wished that she can live forever. She was in denial towards death since she has a lot of things she wants to do yet. Knowing she'll die soon and only at the age 15 hurts her a lot that she screamed at the rooftop that she wants to be immortal no matter what the consequence is. Tsukasa, then, appeared from Shiori's back and whispered,
"You called??" with his psychopath face.
Shiori knew she fucked up! She knows how scary Tsukasa is and what he does in exchange for a wish. He uses the summoner's weakness for a price.
Yes. Shiori was technically alive, but in the world and shore order, if you had less than a week to live, you are considered "dead". Thus, Tsukasa appearing to her as someone who grants the wishes of the dead. Tsukasa laughed maniacally.
"You said you'll never need my help? I'm the ONLY one who cares about you", Tsukasa goes closer to Shiori and touched her lips.
"This will be the price you will pay. See? Hanako never cared enough for you to even find a way to save you."
Shiori wanted to manipulate Tsukasa into escaping, but in just a matter of seconds, Tsukasa pushed Shiori from the rooftop to the school ground.
*thud*
"Am I dead? Am I alive? Hanako..."
Shiori woke up from being pushed. She checked herself for injuries, it was a miracle she's still alive. She noticed that she now has these irremovable right earring and key hairpin. Every time she tries to remove them, she gets electric shocks that burn like hell. She wanted to remove them because she thought those were just two of Tsukasa's pranks, but it seems like this wasn't one of those jokes. She cannot remember what Tsukasa said about the price.
She lived her last 2 days normally after that incident, keeping in mind that maybe something might still change.
The day of her designated death:
Painful flashbacks occured in her head like jolts of lightning. This was the worst headache of her life!
Everything Tsukasa said from the rooftop before pushing her down echoed,
"The price of eternity may sound clichè, but I'm just being kind to you like I always do~ right?"
"First and foremost, you will NEVER see Hanako ever again~" Tsukasa hopped of joy.
"No one will ever love you as MUCH as I DO. This is for choosing Amane over me. Every time you love someone—platonically or romantically—they will commit suicide." Tsukasa laughed loudly as if he was really entertained.
"That's also not it~ You will not be able to give birth no matter how much you try. You are NOT allowed to be too close to anyone."
"This may sound shallow, but Shiori... wasn't that your ultimate dream? Your hopeless romantic self... you won't be able to take it! HAHAHAHA."
"This key and earring will symbolize you being bound to me for eternity.
The key symbolizes your wish being granted, and the earring will be the symbol for your punishment. Ah, living for eternity~ Amane and I are only bound here on earth right now to atone for our sins. Once we're good, we can finally be free!! However, look at you..." Tsukasa held her right cheek looking at her as if she was some pity patty kid, "You will be forever bound here on earth, experiencing the pain of being left alone... over and over again as your loved ones will die sooner, one after the other. How exciting~" Tsukasa squealed like a kid.
"Jokes on Amane, though. I am here to disrupt the order of the Seven Wonders. I'm not here to atone for my sins." Tsukasa slyly smiled.
"Sooo..." Tsukasa put his arm on Shiori, "How about be the 8th Mystery for me?"
And that was the end of the painful flashbacks in Shiori's head.
Hanako never visited her on her last day.
She never saw him the next day, but hey at least, she was alive like she wanted to be. She does not feel happy, though. She does not know what happiness is anymore.
All she can think of is Hanako thinking she's already dead for disappearing so sudden. She never felt betrayed. Why did she have to be bound with Tsukasa? And the bad thing about this is she cannot see apparitions anymore because she's now a "normal" human. She cannot have any access or source as to how to defy Tsukasa's punishment for her selfishness.
She is now bound to suffer.
