it takes far too long for soap to realise ghost won’t touch him anymore

he doesn’t avoid him, which he considers no small a miracle given how he usually treats his emotions, and he’s too busy being thankful to notice. thankful he didn’t run from him, thankful his simon has returned to him, no matter how changed he is from the man he knew. ghost doesn’t shy away from his touch so long as he knows it’s coming and he spends long nights just tracing the scars on his newly bared face; following half-remembered tracks and memorising new ones

but ghost never reaches back. he’ll press into his hands like a starved man, melt beneath the smallest of touches but he never initiates. and now, his regular touches have disappeared; no longer does he clap him on the back after a job well done, doesn’t cheekily nudge him after making a recruit shit themself just by giving them a look and soap hadn’t realised how much he’s come to rely on them until they stopped. how much he’s grown to care for ghost the way he used to care for simon

he can’t confront him about it; ghost’s fight or flight always firmly tuned to flight when it came to matters about himself. soap would’ve if it meant fight; if ghost would just put his hands on him again, he’d take his violence with the passion of a lover, wear the marks he left behind with grateful pride. but he remembers the look on ghost’s face when he’d ripped his balaclava off, when he’d stripped his barrier and his protection and spat, “i ruined you the moment i touched you!”

so soap waits. he waits for ghost to crawl into his bunk, to take off his mask and surrender himself to his touch; a touch that seems to burn as much as it freed. and instead of taking his face in his hands and worshiping it the way he has every other night ghost’s come to him, soap takes his gloved hand in his own

ghost flinches, the preemptive bliss fading from his eyes as reluctant fear takes its place. soap brings it up so it hovers between them and already feels him edge backwards. he doesn’t let it stop him and gently tugs his fingers free of the glove one at a time until his hand is bare to him; visibly shaking in the dark. soap brings it towards his face, holding firm when ghost tries to yank it back and presses into it; his breath hitching as he finally gets the touch he’s missed for years

“stop, john,” ghost whispers and it hurts to hear the pain in his voice; closer to begging for the soft touch to end than he’s ever been under torture

“no,” he refuses, pressing a kiss to the centre of his palm

his eyes shine in the dark, arm twitching as he fights himself; pulling back against his grip and leaning into him in turn. (how can he stand to put his mouth on him; can’t he taste it? the dirt and decay that lives under his skin? the maggots that swim in the slow beat of his blood; the rot he’s been trying so hard not to spread to him but he’s weak.) “you don’t know how broken i am. i’ll ruin you, john.”

soap kisses him again; thick, phantom blood coating his lips. “i’m not letting you slip through my fingers again,” he promises, swallowing it down. “i’ve missed you too much to be afraid of getting cut, simon.”

people writing gale off as the guy who can't get over his ex is crazy bc how is someone supposed to just "get over" being sexually and emotionally abused. if people could use their brains for once they'd realize that just like the other companions, his arc also includes him reclaiming his autonomy and identity from an authority figure and learning how to heal from it--which is a very messy and absolutely not linear process, and that's perfectly fine.

all of them are coping with their trauma in different ways, just because gale's way is "unusual" and concerning at times doesn't mean he's less deserving of help.

i struggle to understand why people are being so incredibly narrow about him, but i'll take a guess that it's because mystra is a woman and people still can't grasp that men can also be abused by women.

edit: someone commented that another reason is his appearance, which is incredibly true as well. look at how gale and lae'zel are treated vs astarion and shadowheart. not to mention how barely anyone talks about wyll. people care more about looks than anything else and it makes them look stupid.

edit2: didn't think i had to specify, but tumblr isn't the only place people talk about bg3. i haven't seen anyone here talk about gale's appearance in a negative way but i've seen it on twt and rddit. i never said it was one of the bigger things, it's just something ive noticed and made a point to bring up because someone reminded me.

idk sometimes there is a certain absolute horror to be had when you snap out of it for a brief moment to remember how abnormal it all is

people r having an absolute fit over the frankie refresh having pink in it and i feel like im going insane. do these dolls not have more or less the exact same amount of pink in them.

was going to try to write today but instead i have spent the last hour thinking up tattoos for eddie to have

#so far i have:#stick and poke w on his foot for wayne (the very first stick and poke he gave himself)#those like mostly bone bat wing type tats on his shoulder blades #im thinking a fantasy dragon either winding down his spine OR curling around his hip half on his front half on his back; maybe w flowers to #his favorite lotr quote on his ribs? or like lower abdomen maybe?#a tiny lil d20 somewhere maybe an ankle? or on a finger or something #either laurels around his knees or maybe eyeballs above them #a sword either on his thigh or forearm or the side of his ribs like under his armpit #i also think he'd have some sort of music/cc type tribute SOMEWHERE #maybe a stick and poke CC below the crook of his elbow? unpopular opinion the Maya models don’t look bad at all. But at the same time the only ones that look good to me are the ones in darker clothing, with darker skin, etc etc because YOU CANT TELL THERES NO FUCKING TEXTURING!!!!!!!!!

#rwde #also mostly talking about how the Maya models looked in v4-5 and somewhat 6 because #Wow the moment they put in that really chunky shading that looks ugly. IT LOOKED UGLY #characters like ilia looked good to me. no im not saying that cuz im her bff bestie forever friendship bracelet im genuine #adams design fucking sucked but I will not lie he looked good. and he looked fucking stellar in the short with his old design.#though again. that short had bloom lighting. and bloom lighting clutches all #they made his horns look like horns! yes we lost the mask texturing in the war but also WE GAVE HIS ASS ACTUAL HORN LOOKING HORNS!!!!!#ok enough stroking the only two characters I talk about on this account.#nora looked good! she wore bright colors yes but she also had that blacker jacket.#Ruby’s design also sucked but imo i feel it translated decently into Maya!#but then we get to v7 and you can noticeably tell stuff starts looking shitty outside of the backgrounds.#They smoothed out the girls faces. Will not lie it sometimes looks like they just copied Ruby’s base four times #and only editted the busy size or height to make the girls. The shading makes stuff look bad. The bloom lighting is gone.#Obviously I’m not wanting to blame the animators or modelers as they are for sure overworked to make this.#And as A 3D animator and modeler myself I do genuinely hope these people can be treated well.#But sadly just…. the models after v7 ain’t it for me

this is very nice actually thank you so much <3 <3 and like, i probably do need to give myself more credit in general but also i am still very much learning and stumbling and figuring digital art out (and for the most part it is so fun)

I’m gonna ramble about this a bit so bear with me and also i apologize lol, but that art was done after a month of getting increasingly more frustrated with everything turning out so badly and eventually realizing that I was trying to 1. copy a certain look/style that i’ve internalized is what fanart and digital art should look like and is very far away from my style/comfort zone 2. i was trying to do everything digital allows without being comfortable with it or understanding it

so (and this took me a month to realize ? ??) i did what i already knew from doing acrylic and oil painting in the past and could somewhat easily transfer to digital without having to know more than the basics, like i didn’t use a lot of the things digital provides or allows for. i used layers for my own peace of mind but without actually needing them and did some color adjusting (honestly, the color adjusting digital lets you do is such a blessing to me) but the only fancy way i really utilized the medium was making it a gif (which is so fun and a lot easier than i would have thought, like honestly watch me make any future art into gifs too) but there are so many things you can do with the medium with settings/effects, different brushes, tools to use in the process etc that i just do not understand what they are or how to implement them so i am very slowly learning digital art as a whole new medium rather than just being able to use it to adapt what i already know

#sorry you just wanted to say a quick thing and i went on a whole rant (welcome to my blog tbh)#like i'll watch tutorials and they'll be like 'and i just did an overlay and then a multiply layer in a good color (:' and im like ??? wdym #'a good color' what color is a good color? like i can put those effects on my work but that's just me clicking a button without knowing wha #will happen really and like i watch speed paints and see them do stuff and im just ? HUH? what was that and why?#i also do not understand a lot of these concepts with traditional art tbh like people will talk about under paintings and im like yeah sure #i hear you however i also do not- i just place a color where it should be and that's that which i know is why my colors often don't feel #cohesive which is also something i need to learn which is blah- im basically just saying i actually do not know any theory or technique #even with traditional it is all just vibes and hoping for the best which in the long run just makes me very confused about what i am #actually doing and not confident at all i'll be able to do it again so u know #we're out here literally just raw dogging art without any thought #but it's also just i do not need to do all those fancy things but i would like to understand them and i am excited to see my progress now #i just really had a shitty month of making ugly things up until now okay so i was a little fragile when i posted that #but people have been so so nice about it and ive been crying for two days straight #also people have been so lovely about the colors and colors are deadass the hardest part about digital like with paint you often buy a set #that already match and then mix them if needed and they'll look nice together but with digital you're just on your own- no training wheels #ask #anon
