DAY 9- DEITY

I really like the decision to set TotK a few years after BotW, as opposed to the few months we’re used to in direct Zelda sequels. It gave the world a substantial amount of time to change. Hyrule is livelier. In the years of relative peace since Calamity Ganon was vanquished, it’s been allowed to grow and thrive. Hateno Village, the largest Hylian settlement, is becoming economically significant as a tourist destination and food supplier. It’s especially cool to see Riju, Tulin, and Kass’s kids mature into their adult/teenage years, respectively.
Building on that, I think it’s neat that Link is in his early twenties now. This is the oldest Link we’ve ever played as (Skyward Sword held the previous record at 17.5 y/o). He’s had time to adjust to life post-calamity. His traumatic mutism seems to be all but gone. You ever notice just how much he talks in this game? Dialogue options galore, he’s constantly explaining things to other characters, all that. And he’s more expressive, too. He outright laughs when he fuses weapons.
Link’s relationship with Zelda has also had time to grow. Guys. Fellas. Broskis. They live in the same house. In which there is only one bed. They are together. The implication here is that they share most of their meals together, and remember, it’s key to his characterization that he opens up emotionally when he’s cooking or eating. That means there has been a lot of quality bonding time between them.
Before and during the Calamity, Link served as Zelda’s royal bodyguard because the king demanded it of him. Given how he went mostly mute from the pressure of being entrusted with the princess’s safety and being chosen as the Hylian Champion (at age 17, mind you), I’d wager he didn’t particularly like the assignment until he started bonding with her. He looks downright sad when she snaps at him in that one memory at the shrine. Hell, he doesn’t smile once in the memories.
But you know what? I get the feeling that Link protects her now not out of duty like he used to, but out of love. That’s powerful because “love conquers all” and all that, but also, there’s no external pressure to be her bodyguard. Until the Upheaval, he was done being a special little hero. He was just a swordsman, but he still went where Zelda went to protect her. So instead of being crushed by that pressure, protecting her is an expression of his love for her. It’s a choice and he’s doing it because he wants to, not because it was forced on him.
That’s a lot of growth to go through, and it was paced over several years. He doesn’t appear to have aged much, but enough time has passed that Hudson has a daughter who can hold a mature conversation. That’s what, 5 years old? Yeah, Link is in his early twenties. Fucking finally, the task of saving the world falls on the shoulders of an adult (although speaking as someone entering his mid-twenties, that honestly isn’t much better).
I’m starting to ramble here so I’ll leave a parting observation of Link and Zelda’s house in Hateno. Zelda has redecorated a fair bit since moving in with Link, replacing his weapon racks with photos of her horse and various Hyruleans (her subjects who she cares deeply for), but the photo of her, Link, and the Champions is still up. And that’s really cute.

Spirits and Hands
Summary: On his way to save Zora's Domain for the second time, Wild and his companions encounter a terrifying enemy.
Warnings: totk spoilers, panic attack, hands
AO3
Please reblog to show your support! Likes do nothing.
The journey to Zora’s Domain was already turning out to be a lot better than Wild had expected it to be. Any traveler he passed would have thought that he was making the trip alone, but he was far from it. Two glowing, spirit-like forms were at his side.
One, a young Rito with a bow on his back, had joined Wild last week after his physical counterpart had discovered his abilities as a sage. The spirit was useful for flight and fight, but his inability to emote more than a tilt of his head left his companionship a little lacking. Wild liked to talk to him, but Tulin’s avatar seemed to be more willing to communicate with beings on a similar level.
Wild’s other companion had been a constant presence ever since he had woken up on the Great Sky Island. Well, they hadn’t appeared in this form at first. He was one of many companions who visited Wild one at a time. Today, Wild was accompanied by a mostly-incorporeal Hero of Winds.
Unlike Tulin’s avatar, Wind was fully present and intelligent in this state. Time travel magic, yada yada, they didn’t really know or care about the differences between heroes and sages. What they did know was that although Tulin was unable to process too many new thoughts or allow Wild to touch him, Wind had no such limitations. The sailor claimed that he wasn’t dead, but all three of them agreed that he was more alive than the sage’s avatar.
Which brought them to this moment, meandering around the Zora River as Wild tried to avoid stepping in the thick sludge that had invaded the area. The spirits chattered with each other, audible only in Wild’s mind.
“And that’s when I looked up and realized that the dragon’s tail was the perfect shape for my grappling hook!” Wind said.
Tulin flapped his wings excitedly. “You could use it to wiggle the ceiling loose and crush the monster!”
“Exactly!”
“Stay close, guys,” Wild said quietly. “We’re about to enter the Tabahl Woods.”
The spirits agreed to finish the story later, mostly so Wild could concentrate on their surroundings. Unlike a few years ago, no Lizalfos could be heard near this stretch of the river.
“Gloom ahead,” Tulin pointed out.
Wild glanced in that direction, spotting a churning puddle of black-rimmed red. “Good eye. We’ll stay clear of that.”
The champion brought them closer to the river, letting the patch of gloom fall behind his line of sight. He had barely passed it when he saw Tulin prepare his bow out of the corner of his eye.
“Don’t tell me I missed a Lizalfos,” Wild groaned, setting a hand on his sticksword and turning around.
His heart dropped.
Wind shouted, “What are those?”
The puddle of gloom was creeping closer, tearing across the wet grass and turning the very air red as if a blood moon had appeared mid-afternoon. Flakes and tendrils of the evil substance floated above the concentrated mess, making Wild cough as it entered his lungs. With a demonic screech, a half dozen gnarled arms rose from the gloom, each topped with a hand and a malicious eyeball staring from its palm.
“Run!” Wild yelled, tripping on his own feet as he hurried to do just that.
“I got it!” Tulin called, and Wild heard the rapid thwip of his arrows.
“It won’t work!” Wild reprimanded, sprinting mere inches ahead of snatching fingers. “I tried that last time, they- ack!”
The hand found purchase on his ankle, draining precious energy before he managed to wriggle free. The pursuit resumed immediately, rendering Wild exhausted within seconds. He had lost track of both Wind and Tulin, the spirits left behind as Wild struggled to escape. The hand gave up the chase, but any relief Wild felt was extinguished by a familiar shrill scream.
Wild whirled around, finding that the gloom hands were now preoccupied with the smaller targets. Tulin had managed to fly out of range, sending useless arrows into the monster’s eyes. Wind, however, had been surrounded completely. A hand was clamped around his face, holding him suspended in the air while his feet kicked at nothing. More hands gathered around him, grabbing and squeezing and smothering.
Wind couldn’t feel pain, but judging by his panicked cries, that didn’t matter when he could still be scared.
A surge of protectiveness gave Wild the final burst of strength he needed to run away from the monstrosity’s field of influence. The hands shrieked and shriveled in the returning sunlight, vanishing and releasing Wind.
Tulin’s avatar swooped beside Wild, who told the Rito to go scout. Wild crashed to his knees beside Wind, giving him an instinctive once-over. The boy’s translucent body was unharmed, though Wild couldn’t be completely sure. Wind was curled around himself, knees tucked to his chest and hands clamped over his ears.
“Wind, are you…” The remainder of the question faded away, and Wild tried again when the sailor didn’t move. “Wind?”
In a voice more small and broken than Wild had ever heard it, Wind asked, “Is it gone?”
“Yeah… yeah, they’re all gone.”
Wind was perfectly still, but Wild could hear muffled crying.
This was a new experience, and Wild didn’t know how to react. Wind rarely cried, putting on a brave face around the older heroes and defending himself with youthful bravado. Wild had seen him wrapped in Warriors’ scarf a few times, even hidden away in Time’s arms once or twice, but Wind had never sought comfort from Wild. With the kid so vulnerable before him now, Wild could only hope that he could balance comfort and respect so he didn’t ruin the moment.
Wild asked, “Can you try to sit up so I can see that you’re not hurt?”
Wind hiccuped and slowly pushed himself upright, keeping his hands close and his head bowed. Wavy sea glass-green hair concealed his face, and Wild carefully reached out to rest his finger under the spirit’s chin. Wind flinched the slightest bit at Wild’s touch, but allowed him to tilt his head up for inspection.
Just as Wild had expected, Wind was completely unharmed- physically, at least. His cheeks were free of marks like the ones Wild could feel burning his ankle, left behind by dragging fingernails. No bruises from being grabbed, no patches of angry flesh sizzling with remnants of gloom. Satisfied with his findings, Wild braced himself before finally looking into Wind’s eyes.
Like Tulin’s avatar, Wind’s eyes were simple pools of light that held far less emotion than his true form. So when Wild saw that they were wide and shimmering, that glowing tear tracks were streaming down Wind’s face, he knew that something was very wrong.
“Wind, please,” Wild whispered. “What can I do to help?”
A ragged wail tore through Wild’s mind, and the champion had no time to prepare himself before the spirit launched himself forward. Wind was weightless in Wild’s arms, but tangible all the same as he quickly pulled him into a proper hug. The sailor made himself as small as possible, hiding from the world as he cried. Raw sobs and hoarse screams that would have caused a lot of pain if he had been able to feel such a thing, wave after wave of catharsis that came from vocalizing pure, overwhelming fear.
Wild waited in silence, knowing that words couldn’t help this situation. He remembered how afraid he had been in the aftermath of his own first encounter with the gloom hands. Only adrenaline had kept him going long enough to reach the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower before he had crumbled in the snow, hyperventilating and hallucinating the horrible screams.
But as scared as Wild had been, Wind’s reaction was so much worse. The boy was trapped in his panic well after Tulin gave the all clear, never calming down even a little. Was it because he was so young, or was Wind reliving trauma that Wild didn’t know about? Something more was going on, but honestly, Wild found that he didn’t care. In this moment, all he wanted to do was comfort his little brother.

@flockrest:
"Uh-huh," Tulin says, with the air of a kid who was totally listening, honest — he's just got something waaay more interesting he'd like to talk about. Never one to politely change subjects, but wanting to try 'cause it's Master Revali, he settles for rounding off whatever Master Revali was saying ( that he was totally listening to, honest! ) with a truth readily believed and gladly given: "That's so cool, you're the best!"      Then he gets right into it, too eager to allow even a moment's pause.      "But hey, y'know, Master Revali," he flits 'round their Champion's side, wings lifted to motion at the things he hasn't been able to stop thinking 'bout since he, well, started, "you got a lotta braids! Are they all yours-yours, or are they from someone else?" Ooh, several someones, even; a warrior like Master Revali must be very important to loads'a people — loved enough to be preened by loads'a people!
"I beg your -- ?"
His choicest word cut short in its prime down the middle, and it finally occurs to Revali that this boy, fickle sprite that he is, was most certainly not listening at all. It's that look children have when things start falling out of the sides of their heads mid-lesson: twitchy, fit to burst. The most attentive non-listeners you could ever ask for: Revali had never been good with them.
But that's his answer, isn't it? It comes to him as the stories slip away and the memories replace them at Tulin's probing: he was never good with them, even as a boy himself. He would look down from the Summit and see them all flitting around each other like lovebirds, tying their budding crests into crude knots with clumsy hands.
Stupid, he'd thought. How stupid.
When the stars came out and every one of them slept, Revali would creep down to the landings, collect whatever they'd left behind, and do up his own. Only his own, and certainly alone. And alone is how he would do it every single time since.
Perhaps they all thought someone must be doing it. How lucky that person must be,' they'll be thinking, 'to touch a single feather upon his perfect head!' The mystery, the jealousy, the great divide--
That shuts his mind's eye quickly -- before something lands in it. They should think so. Oh, they'd better.
"Well, of course," Revali says, and although the hand he's running regally over his crown is right on time, his voice rings oddly. Mechanically. "It's embarrassing, really: this tie and those beads and the ribbons--"
Tumblr media
"I'd much rather do them myself at this point. When you've grown up a bit, you'll feel the same, I'm sure."

Hey, Link, how do you say "I love you"?
Send in the Kids! -- @flockrest
They'd spent most of the day working on learning each other's languages, and Link's mind was spinning. He was more than pleased with Tulin's progress, the young Rito had expanded his vocabulary significant since Link started his more formal lessons, and even if he couldn't sign back, he could understand most of what Link signed without effort. They'd had to modify some of the signs to better accommodate Tulin's wings, but even then, Tulin was an eager student.
For his part though, Link is still struggling to grasp at the different relational terms the Rito use--flocks and nests, hierarchies and closeness--it can all be understood based on which word a Rito uses, so much so that many of the ideas don't have an easy way to translate it back into Hylian. Which doubly means they don't have a sign for them, at least not a Hylian sign, although Link suspects there might be something like Rito signs for them, if not more bird-like sounds. Link wonders if Tulin might be holding back some of the complexity for him, and for that, Link doesn't mind one bit. He knows he'll understand it eventually, it will just take time.
But Tulin's voice speaks out of the dark, the young Rito peeking out from his hammock to glance down at Link in his bedroll with a curious expression. And Link beams. Technically there is a one-handed sign for 'I love you', but he suspects that would be challenging for Tulin to do, so Link settles for a more direct sign.
Tapping his own chest, he crosses fisted hands over his chest before pointing at Tulin. << I love you. >>

(Work has been kicking my ass. Pray for me.)
The image of Tia observing the pirate ships carefully and trying to come up with a plan to take them out slowly and methodically, only for Sage to race past her, flame sword in hand, and she's just like left in the dust for a few moments, blinking bewilderedly, is hysterical to me. She's trying so hard to keep them both safe, but it's like herding a very angry tiger. Tia kinda just gives up and throws herself after him, while making sure there's at least a little raft to get them back to shore so they don't have to swim.
Meanwhile, Aaliyah and Sweetpea are speedrunning the term 'Mass Property Damage'. Because Aaliyah is used to 'Fuck Around and Find Out" Sage and Sweetpea is used to "One Hit or Bust" Tia. There's a lot of explosions happening in a very short period of time.
(Sage and Sweetpea share a single look of She can never know she's right when Aaliyah tells them bombs are better before they both start arguing their cases again. Although it does start another argument over whether bomb arrows or barrels are better.)
Sages' Secret Clubroom. A place of mystic reverence. A place where you may gain the wisdom of your predecessors. A place where you may seek refuge among your fellows. A place where you may train your mind and soul in solitude. A place where Sweetpea keeps getting his ass kicked at the Hyrule Version of Uno by Riju and Tulin and no one helps him. Not even Sidon. The betrayal! (Only Aaliyah knows how Sweetpea managed to get a whole bunch of squishy pillows into the Realm, but she's refusing to tell anyone.)
Hateno chills out severely once Natura is fully removed from the house and Ariel takes back over. Cause No One wants to be the one to tell the overprotective big brothers and sisters that Ariel got caught up in some silly fight or someone made her cry. Ariel is every bit as sweet and curious as her original big siblings but had gotten a lot less tolerant for bullshit when confronted with some villagers trying to start something with her new ones. (Ariel was also just straight up "Oh, you brought home a strange Sheikah woman who's from an alternate Hyrule and wants to get back to her version of you, but the Hyrules have merged and now she and her Link are now here permanently? I think you mean MY new Big Brother and Big Sister now." The immediate urge to Adopt is strong in Sweetpea and Ariel.)
(The only thing Ariel and Sweetpea don't fix back is the little secret hideout in the back. They use it as a mushroom garden. Which Sweetpea takes great delight in showing Sage only to get a mushroom shoved into his mouth to stop the grinning.)
Sage and Aaliyah mellowing out a bit because now they get actual recognition? Appreciation? Respect?! for what they went through and for their boundaries. Tia's treating them just as she would anyone else and Sweetpea is worming his way into their hearts (like the zero self-preservation fungus he is) and everyone in their Hyrule is just so much more understanding? Like they all know the Calamity and the Upheaval sucked from their end so being in the heart of it must've especially sucked. So Tia's Hyrule is immediately 'Our Heroes now. No Take Backies. Even if they nibble at first.' (A new slang starts going around. Talk Shit, Get Bit.)
(I totally get it. I work in a pizza place and every day I'm left drained from doing a job meant for four people and I'm only one ;-;)
Tia is so over Sage's shit by the third pirate ship. At that point she's learned to catch him, practically choking him out before he can get past her. She's trying to give him the backup he's used to, but it's hard because him and Aaliyah had such a wordless way of communicating, it's difficult getting him out of those habits.
Aaliyah and Sweetpea speedrunning Hyrule cracks me up. Together they are the one hit wonders and should it take more than one hit, that thing better fucking run because they aren't doing a third. It's a wonder Hyrule stays standing after they're through with it. Something not working? Blow it up. Something did work, but they have no need for it? Blow it up. This random 'traveler' is talking about bananas?
Blow 'em up.
(THE SILENT AGREEMENT THAT SHE CANNOT BE RIGHT ISNOFFB Even Tia knows better than to boost the ego like that. Who knows what kind of person she'd become should she know the truth. Know what she could become. She's just glad they aren't going through practical experimentation to support their arguments.)
(...Yet.)
Them playing the Hyrule version of Uno is so great because there is no way the sages aren't competitive. They all are. Tulin and Riju are those little siblings that make you pick up twelve only to throw a fit when you turn it around and hit them with a pickup sixteen. Yunobo barely knows what's going on half the time. Sidon hides cards. (It's their best kept secret. Believe it or not, that's where the go to gush about their respective partners when they can't sleep to the other. Probably have wedding binders up there and everything.)
Ariel is the most protected individual in Hyrule lmao. Like imagine these two figures, cloaked in dark robes and just oozing dangerous energy walk into town. People are closing doors and windows, shops are flipping signs and then boom! The village's sunshine child is running right up to them with a gleeful smile and cheers. People are gasping in horror at what could possibly happen to the child only for the taller of the two to scoop her up and throw her into the air, making her burst out in happy giggles. The shorter one is digging through their side bag only to produce a gorgeous sundelion and putting it behind her ear, giving her own greeting with a hair ruffle. That's how people learn that Ariel now has four siblings and two will commit murder no second thought needed. (Possibly all four)
(The urge to Adopt is an inherited trait LMAO)
(Sage is cursing every well for starting that secret hideout. He wants them GONE, but he can't say no to Ariel sweet face. He's a sucker for her.)
Sweetpea working his way into Sage's heart will never not be funny. Like Mikey and Raph from TMNT. "Sage is just a big fluffy teddy bear <3 If big fluffy teddy bears were incredibly violent." And Tia's hyrule just adopting the new heroes FHFFB ( Talk shit, Get bit is the new thing. Everyone is saying it and the best part? Sage and Aaliyah are completely unaware they are the ones who started it. They just think it's some quirky new thing.)

TOTK spoilers
Just going to say, the boats you can make in TOTK are fine and all. But uhm I think it would've been better for Sidons sage ability or part of it to ride on his back in water. OR revive you like miphas (i miss the revive ability but I don't mind too much he is his own character with his own ability in that regard).
Tulin lets you go further and get more out of your air time (although I'd have preferred for him to carry you or get a loftwing (or air mount in general) and yunobo, by far, is the most practically useful sage skill for the sheer fact he can power through boulders and rocks. Rijus ability honestly just kind of kicks ass because it's powerful although I don't use her kind of at all, for the same reason i probably wont use sidons.
Theres no practical world use for them and they're not worth having out and getting in the way. Sidon erected a statue dedicated to Link riding on his back I don't get the choices made in this game at all.

Tears of the kingdom I was very sad to realise is the most disappointing and unoriginal game of the year. Like picking it up people expect and are excited to see several amazingly designed dungeons, a story that brings something new and engaging and most of all songs that mean things and feel special. Unfortunately we see barely any of that (SPOILERS) there are only 5 proper temples 4 of which are in pretty much the exact locations which is so goddamn stupid that it pains me. There is such a large map and with the underground and the sky you’d think they could’ve got creative but they didn’t. All of the characters have been copied and pasted from botw making them all boring except for like tulin since he wasn’t really featured that much in botw. You get all the abilities right of the bat which sucks cause it would benefit so much if you collected them in temples allowing you to unlock more things in the world so you feel like you’ve actully done some progress. The fact that the only thing the main quest does is make you feel like your progressing in the story instead of progressing your character is really disappointing. The game also feels massively unfinished with the underground as I noticed the underground is a reversed version of the surface (hills are now wholes and wholes are now mountains). Even every tree is placed in the same spot!!!!!!! Like bro!!! I think the trailer really showed what the game was capable off if Nintendo wasn’t lazy but obviously they were. The only time they do play the trailer song is at the end and it doesn’t really fit. I was so dissapointed by the game and it makes me sad. Botw was a cool game I liked what they did and although it was different from the originals (I love the originals) it worked. It really seemed like totk was gonna blend the botw with the originals but it didn’t and created an unsatisfieng adventure where a chest found in the middle of nowhere will give better rewards that a full on side quest that takes half an hour to complete.

Gather round!! It’s time for botw/totk character’s love languages (platonic and/or romantic)!!! (All head canon stuff btw so don’t come at me if you don’t agree—you’re allowed to have diff opinions!!)
Link — acts of service — Link is quiet, but his presence is comforting and protective. He will do just about anything for Zelda and anyone else he loves. Be it fighting, sitting with them, protecting them…
Zelda — gift giving — Zelda loves to buy gifts for the people she loves (like the tunic for link in totk). She’ll spend ages brainstorming the perfect gift for whomever she’s shopping for!
Paya — quality time — Paya is far too shy to outright admit her love and affection, but she shows it by spending time with those who matter most to her. She likes taking time to enjoy the simple things in life, when she can spare time from her duties in Kakariko.
Purah — gift giving — Purah loves making unique gifts for those she cares about. She combines her love for tinkering with the interests and needs of her loved ones to create great technologies to better their lives. She has a bad habit of isolating herself away from her family and friends when she focuses on such projects.
Sidon — words of affirmation — Sidon constantly compliments and gushes about his friends and family. They are his world and he loves to hype them up as much as possible.
Tulin — quality time — Tulin loves being around his flock! Whether it’s cooking, exploring, training, or even just lazing around, he loves to spend time with the people he cares about most.
Yunobo — physical touch — Yunobo has a bad habit of hugging his non-goron friends and nearly crushing them. Despite this, Yunobo loves physical touch, be it a pat on the shoulder, a nudge, or a high five, he’s happy to show his affection with his loved ones.
Riju — quality time/physical touch — Riju loves spending time with Zelda and Link in particular. She feels comfortable being the kid that she still is around them, and as a result is cuddly in a way that she normally reserves for her sand seal plushies.
Mipha — words of affirmation/quality time/acts of service — Mipha will happily do anything to make her love ones happy, and she loves spending time close to them. Like Sidon, she encourages her friends frequently with compliments and praise.
Revali — act of service/words of affirmation — Rito are relatively to the point, and Revali is not exception. He will be frank and honest if he loves or hates you—but he means no real offense. Although he finds that his actions speak louder than his words in regards to his relationships with others (he’s the type to fly away at the first sign of Link).
Daruk — physical touch/words of affirmation — Daruk is much like Yunobo, unaware of his size but super touchy. In addition, he loves praising his friends for their accomplishments and skills.
Urbosa — physical touch/words of affirmation/quality time/acts of service — Although Urbosa seems somewhat distant, she is very close to her loved ones. She enjoys spending time away from her duties with Zelda, and is always happy to offer advice to the princess.
Koroks (generally) — quality time/gift giving — The koroks love to play games with their friends, and like handing out rewards when someone beats them at hide and seek or any other game! Link is their most frequent playmate.
There are def more characters and I might get to them later idk I’m tired

TOTK Progress Update
As I run from many responsibilities in my life, I have made significant progress in TOTK also SPOILERS BELOW
Both the Rito Village and Zora Domain bosses are done
I’ve gotten all of the Great Fairy Fountains
I’ve also upgraded Tulin’s sage…thingy? Idk and idk how
Most if not all of the Zora Domain side quests are done
Currently doing shrines and caves and side quests and things before I complete the remaining two mini bosses are done
Oh yeah I GOT THE MASTER SWORD (but I haven’t used it yet, thought I might have needed it for the mini bosses) it was a pain in the ass to get tho. I will explain my methods on how to obtain this below (only if you want)
To get the master sword, you must find all of the dragon’s tears memories. This of course takes a while, but they’re relatively easy to access. There’s plenty of guides online on where to find these.
BUT then you must go to the Korok Forest to help save the Deku Tree and koroks. You cannot go the way you came in in BOTW. You must go down the chasm near the forest, hop a buttload of trees as to not fall in the gloom goo, and try not to get killed by gloom hands. Fun. I encourage flipping back through the surface map to ensure you’re going in the right direction, which is the center of the Korok Forest but underground. You’ll know you’re getting close when the trees start changing into those strange smiling trees from the forest.
Anyways, there will be a lightroot shrine thing near a temple of sorts? It’s not really a temple, but there’ll be columns and pedestals and lights that’ll be outta the ordinary. Use the Ascend feature in the center of the temple to reach the forest.
To help save the forest, you must go the way you normally went to the shop and inn in the heart of the Deku tree and jump down into the chasm. BUT BEFORE YOU DO THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Make sure to have these
Sturdy weapons (plural). I like to fuse horriblin horns to pretty much anything sword-like. They always come in clutch.
Don’t go in without like 8 hearts, unless you’re confident. (But also why are you reading this then if you’re confident)
Enough arrows, like at least 20
Bomb flowers for the arrows. Make sure to have at the very least 10 of these, maybe 8 but you’re pushing it
Sundelion foods. This will help replenish hearts lost from gloom and give you health also. I cooked salted prime meat with sundelions. (I also got this tip and the bomb flower arrows from tiktok) Make a butt ton of these. There’s a place to cook near the entrance (although you may have to light it).
Attack foods. Foods that boost attack. A mighty fish mixed with a couple of mighty thistles and razorshrooms will do extremely nicely. Or you could cook these based on what you have, just make sure it’s mighty. Eat these to replenish the other hearts the sundelion foods couldn’t, but I wouldn’t recommend eating another in battle until the attack boost is about to wear off. Make quite a few of these.
You’re set :)
Okay so what’s down there anyways??? Gloom hands. The bastards. The best way to attack them is to hit bomb flower arrows in the middle. This way you’ll hit more hands at once (hopefully all at once but it’s not a perfect science). You may have to die a few times to get the hang of it if you’re inexperienced with gloom hands like me, but don’t let them intimidate you. Blast them to hell.
And of course, after you kill them, there’s the dreaded phantom ganon. The goal here is to outlast ganon with replenishing hearts and unlocking hearts from the gloom. Try not to get in the way of his long sword attacks (and if you’re great a parrying, all the better). This will help you from eating away your supply. But he’s tricky so it’s okay if he clocks you a good one here and there. Use those sturdy weapons and whack the shit outta him. You will defeat him.
And when you do, the Deku tree will reward you with where to locate the light dragon. And get there to the dragon immediately after, whatever warp is closest. You’ll see her. And it shouldn’t be too hard to get to her??? Maybe have a stamina elixir or food boost just in case.
Also, this is important. Last important thing I’m sorry.
You must have two complete stamina wheels. Don’t try cheating with the yellow wheels either. Two full green stamina wheels. Otherwise she will fling you off when trying to grab the master sword.
And then
Da na na na naaaaaaaaa
You’ve got the sword.

I'd like love headcanons about the new champions. Specifically like how they would interact with their Divine Beasts, how they would socialize with the Champions' spirits, and how they interact with Zelda. I love your blog by the way, it's so creative and I love your stories!
Thanks a bunch! Sorry this took a bit, I had a ton of ideas for the Divine Beasts…
Anyway, let’s get into some
New Gen Champion Headcanons!
So Hyrule is saved and now we just got a bunch of giant mechanical beasts laying around
What to do, what to do…
No one can seem to really control the Divine Beasts as it requires a telekinetic connection, and the beasts have to recognize someone’s soul and spirit as worthy…yada-yada
Even Link was cheating a bit, as he only controlled the terminals of the Beasts with his Sheikah Slate. He didn’t have the power to actually tame them, he could only just tilt them around a bit. Hylia knows Link doesn’t need four giant machines capable of causing mass destruction anyway
Zelda, as usual, takes the initiative to find a solution. Who better to tame these Divine Beasts than the ones who helped defeat them!
Enter, the New Champions
Sidon was excited when Ruta responded to him. I mean, such a creature had judged his sister Mipha worthy of commanding it. So the fact that he could also control Vah Ruta resonated with him, as it meant that maybe he could live up to his sister…
Of course, some of the older Zora, including his father, were wary, considering the Divine Beasts were so closely linked with Mipha’s death
But Sidon is determined, he wants to be useful and help Link (aw) and all of Hyrule. He’ll convince everyone that it’s his duty as a noble to help everyone with the Divine Beast.
“Besides, my sister will be watching over me!”
Sidon and Ruta very helpful whenever there’s droughts or a bad harvest. People don’t even need to report anything. Sidon and Ruta just instinctively know if people need rain.
And Ruta does have a mind of her own. She (yeah we’re using she for all the beasts, like boats, ya know?) is sort of playful and just randomly splashes water on Sidon every now and then.
I also like to think the trunk doubles as a speaker, and Sidon just blasts music whenever he feels like it
It seem Yunobo was the only one bewildered that Rudania responded to him’
“W-what?! Why me? All I did was tag along with Link and headbut it a few times…”
It would take some convincing from the elders that he was up for the job
“Nonsense kid. You did what none of us could do. You’re the one who tackled that old lizard head on! Plus, you’re graced with Daruk’s protection. You helped save Goron City, You got this, brother!”
So Yunobo became a Champion, able to tame Divine Beast Vah Rudania. He’s a bit flustered with this new found fame, but he gets through it. After all, the whole ordeal with Link has made him a bit braver
I like to think Rudania’s personality is serious, an all work no play kind of guy. Purely because it clashes with the personality of both Daruk and Yunobo so much. (Hc that’s why Daruk was struggling with his Divine Beast originally)
Rudania moves on their own, without Yunobo’s input sometimes, so they can move out of the way of falling rocks and stuff. The lizard acts like a big old grump
Anyway, the Goron mining business is BOOMING, literally. Those turrets and drones that Rudania has? Super helpful when scanning dangerous areas by Death Mountain, and for identifying valuable ore.
Also Rudania’s fireproof-ness is great on checking on how active the volcano is, a super helpful asset under a slightly anxious Goron youth. Fun!
Teba takes up the job, no questions asked. No one’s that surprise that the best warrior is the successor for the Divine Beast, but he cares a lot about living up to Revali’s legacy. He gets Medoh to respond immediately, and he’s probably the most skilled out of the four new champions with his beast.
However, it takes time for him to warm up, to Medoh. The thing almost killed his best friend, and shot a laser at him after all. Teba does what’s necessary to maintain Medoh, and nothing more.
Vah Medoh basically is a mama bird. It uses its Sheikah tech to keep the inside toasty for whenever Teba comes, she glows warmly in the night, even the propellers are used to blow fast gusts of wind to help Rito get places fast.
Eventually, Teba gets along with Medoh when he practices archery with Tulin on Medoh’s back. The updrafts of the grates there are even better and faster than the natural ones at the flight range.
Vah Medoh’s cannons/turrets are helpful when dealing with the numerous monsters near the Hebra Range. Talus? Gone. Ice Lizalfo camp? Obliterated. Hinox? Dead. This part is probably something Teba enjoys too, he’s a warrior first and foremost anyway, so dealing with monsters so easily boosts his ego, just a bit.
Everyone was ecstatic for Riju. Everyone, especially Bularia, is so proud. Look at all those achievements under her belt! Youngest Chief, has a sand seal prophet, defeated Vah Naboris, oversaw the reclamation of the Thunderhelm and the Yiga Clan Hideout (although that last one was mostly Link, but no one knows that because, he’s a guy, scandalous)
Riju works well enough with her Divine Beast, the Thunder Helm pairs well, and she feels like she’s growing into it anyway.
Naboris is a show off. Stomping for no reason, hanging out in thunderstorms and sandstorms just to look cool? Yes. And Riju plays along with this because what kids doesn’t wanna look cool with a giant mecha beast? With Naboris, Chief Riju is starting to outgrow her fears of being seen as a bad leader, cause a Divine Beast is a pretty good testament to how hard you work for your people. (Aw, her mom would be proud)
Let’s talk about those Electric Generators. This Divine Beast can harness energy from the earth? And has natural electrical systems? So, so, helpful not just for the desert, but for everyone in general. Naboris’ electrical power is used to power other machines and technology, allowing for heating, water systems, lights, the whole sha-bang. And the fact that there’s a lightning rod to attract the lightning, which not only keeps people safe, but harnesses the natural elements of the land? *chef’s kiss*
You bet your ass Zelda hangs out with Naboris a lot too, reverse engineering portable electricity could help all of Hyrule get back on their feet. I’m talking Industrial Revolution baby, (but without the exploitation of the working class and poverty, ya know, only the good stuff)
But besides that, Riju uses Naboris to navigate the desert. You don’t need to worry about sandstorms and such when you’ve basically got a walking house. It’s lights also serve as good waypoints for travelers, or beacons for those that are lost.
Now as for the original Champions…. Well the ending of botw was pretty clear that they had passed on. They sorta disappear…cause they found peace…and all that. I know the point of fanfic is to ignore canon and create your own endings and ideas, but if I got into how I think the Champions would be revived this would be a much longer post, lol.
So we’ll just leave it at, everyone happy. Hyrule is prospering, Zelda and Link are leading a new generation of Champions and helping the people of the land. Everyone gets together and has a sleepover and Link’s house every now and again. And Teba adopts everyone because he is basically the only adult. Yay!

New champions' reactions to inheriting Fallen Champions' abilities?
Teba
- like the lone warrior he is, upon realizing his newfound ability he marches off to the flight range by himself to go and practice in solitude
- he’s wary about using it in the beginning. he admires revali and he has nothing but utmost respect for him. the ability, he believes, should go to someone just as skillful and hardworking as revali. but if the heavens (he refuses to believe revali may have chose him) deem him worthy, then why not try?
- the hardest part was mastering the ability to conjure and further control the updraft. he attempted, initially, to materialize the updraft through intense focus. this went on for days, resulting in nothing but bad headaches. he decided to take a chance with triggering desperation and takes a dive off the take off platform and down into the chasm. the closer he got to the bottom, the less graceful his form became. just a few feet before the ground, he opened his wings to catch some wind to slow his descend, and stretched out his legs to the ground. suddenly, a strong gust of wind shot up from the ground and launched him back up into the air. he was right: it was an emotional connection. once he figured out just how to get it started, he struggled with containing it’s sheer force
- (he can’t wait to show tulin)
Riju
- excited, but nervous. she’s more than happy and willing to be given urbosa’s ability, but she’s only heard of just how powerful and frightening it could be. she doesn’t have anyone to help guide her, either, mainly because those around her are ignorant to it’s strength as well
- she was terrified-- although she’ll never admit it-- her first few tries. she pinched out a shaky, but piercing snap with no results. the few after grew increasingly more confident, until she found herself frustrated with her lack of action. it wasn’t until she stomped her foot to the ground that lightning struck the dunes of the desert
- after she finally witnessed urbosa’s fury with her own eyes did she realize just how powerful urbosa was...she is. looking to the darkened sky, swirling clouds, and the scorched sand in the distance as the last volts of electricity fizzle to nothing, she felt a wave of confidence wash over her. “I can be the leader my people need,” she thinks
Sidon
- sidon was always the type willing to try things. so when he lovingly held the hand of a wounded soldier and witnessed their miraculous healing, he was more than eager to hone in the skill
- sidon’s the hardest on himself, always telling himself he can be better and he should be better. so while his practicing came to stutter when he one day could not conjure the healing ability, he holed himself up in his sister’s room in the east reservoir in frustration. here, he spent much time pleading with his sister to provide him with guidance, however in vain. as his heart ached in disappointment, his nails dug into his palm when he balled his fists tightly. when they began to glow, he realized that the key to heal lie in the heart.
- newly determined, he takes the time to get to know all of his people in an attempt to deepen his love for them all. he prides himself and his family in the fact his sister held so much love for everyone, he now realizes. with his even more passionate love for his people, sidon vows to protect them with his last breath just as mipha did 100 years ago
Yunobo
- yunobo has been unaware of the ability for the longest time before danger forced him to use it. while providing help for the miners, he was in the line of death when rudania caused yet another uproar from atop the volcano. stunned in fear, his legs proved useless. just before the large boulders the size of homes crushed him, he crossed his arms to shield his face. the ground shook around him, but he had realized he hadn’t been in contact with any force. it was then, when he looked past his arms, had he realized the legendary daruk was protecting him in the afterlife
- immediately he needed to tell the chief. said goron leader asked for proof, but yunobo was unable to prove himself under pressure. for some time afterwards, he was to return to his regular duties. he continued to attempt to raise the shield, but found no results. however, when the chief was doing his rounds among the mines, rudania threw another fit and sent more rocks and debris tumbling down. the shaking ground knocked the chief off his feet and injured his back, rendering him paralyzed and vulnerable. as the miners fled, yunobo rushed back in to protect the chief. in a desperate minute, he pressed himself as close to the chief as possible and clashed his knuckles together with a grunt, conjuring the shield and successfully saving each of their lives.
- yunobo was praised greatly by everyone, flustering him. he took upon heavier duties and his admiration for daruk sparked within. he decided he owed the champion his devotion and devoted his spare time to learning of daruk’s accomplishments and what kind of person he was. he never felt so much love and adoration for someone in his life, until now

🔪 for Link ofc (and with a vicious sickle)
Knife to Meet You -- @mightiestbanana
The faint glow around his ankles from his clothing lit the way as Link jogged through the darkness of the Depth. He'd made some progress in lighting a good handful of the Light Roots, dispelling great swathes of the dark, but that didn't mean the Gloom was all gone. And this particular stretch proved particularly thick.
Grimace settling on his lips, Link slowed to find a better way around the patch, eyes pinned on the mine entrance up ahead. Master Kohga had let slip where his next hideout would be, although Link couldn't be sure if he meant for Link to follow as some grand ploy or if being in the Depths for so long had done something to the Yiga leader's mind. It could be a mix of both.
Finding an outcropping, Link scrambled up it and launched himself over the Gloom, aided by both his paraglider and Tulin's burst of wind to carry him over the thick sludge. Landing on the far side, he quickly stowed his paraglider and pulled out a sword, ready for the attack that might come at any moment as he edged towards the opening of the mine.
The silence was all consuming, and any sounds he made, like the scuffing of his feet or the slight clanging of his weapons seemed to vanish into the yawning opening of the mine ahead. Every nerve sang in his body, preparing for the attack that he knew would--
There it was.
Out of the darkness, the scent of old iron, old blood, and a hairline discomfort at his neck. A mirthless smile danced on Link's lips as the thrill of the fight surged in his gut. In an instant, Link knew what had happened: Master Kohga had used one of his devices to hover above him, out of sight due to the ruins of the mine, and he waited, sickle poised and ready. So maybe it was a ploy all along. Of course Master Kohga would be skilled at using such darkness to his advantage, and Link twisted away, leveling his sword as he tossed a brightbloom into the air, shedding more light on the fight and his opponent.

They probably shouldn't just be sitting here watching all the chaos unfold like this, but. Well. When your foes start fighting each other instead of you...nothing else to it but to sit back and observe, right? Even if it makes Tulin feel a weird mix of guilt and delight over how things have unfolded.
     ( He's only a little delighted, he swears! )
"Who d'you think's gonna win?" His gaze flickers over to Link for a second, before it's back on the battlefield. The bokoblins aren't doing too bad, honestly! But Tulin can already taste whose victory it'll be on the Windlines. "My bet's on the green guys."
Link eyes the fighting below the pair of them curiously. He'd heard the commotion up ahead and climbed up to the higher vantage point that Tulin had already selected to get a better view as well. And he can't help but smile slightly at the site before him. It seems that more of the sky island pieces have fallen from the sky, bringing a few unsuspecting malfunctioning constructs with it. Usually Link is the one who finds himself responsible for subduing the Zonai technology, but this time, the sky island seems to have dropped by very close to the bokoblin encampment.
All there's left to do is watch the enemies fight each other, although Link can tell it's going to be slow going. Neither group is armed particularly heavily although they both have armor. Shaking his head a little, Link shifts slightly, finding a more comfortable position to watch the fighting before he responds.
Fingerspelling the word, he ends with a point to the ancient construction. Hands move out in front of him, palms facing inwards, before he alternates chopping his hands. << Zonai constructs. >> He responds, supplies before tapping himself on the chest then poking at his temple. Thumb curls into his palm, his fingers sticking up, before his hands both lift up next to his face, hands splayed. << I think the bokoblins. >> They outnumber the constructs by one fighter, and they're nimbler than the machines, but all things told, the two groups are rather evenly matched.
