The absolute horror of Oppenheimer is cinched in Truman's short appearance for me. This idea he voices that none of the victims care who created the bomb, only who dropped it on them...

It's all too real. In the film it's a bitch slap.

Beyond it, for us, it's the inexorable conclusion that the bomb would have been created no matter what. The moment that first paper was published, every scientist understood the A bomb as a concept was a possibility. And once that concept was out in the open, it was only a matter of time before an aggressive enough country put the effort in to create it.

As the iconic Ambessa Medarda says it in Arcane, "Weapons cannot be unmade and they are always used". Truer words, etc.

If not Oppenheimer then the Soviets first (Nazis never stood a chance, since they were making life for their jewish scientists, well... You can guess how hard), or the Brits, who knows. And with no reason to drop it on Japan if it came after the end of WWII, god knows in what setting in might have been used. We can always speculate, but the depressing ending of this film was that someone had to do the work, and the people at Los Alamos did.

Someone had to be handed the baby, and Oppenheimer was.

And yet we don't blame him for that. We understand the inexorability of progress in science. Hey, we've all seen or read Jurassic Park, right? We blame the politicians who used it, because with the finished product it was their call.

That Truman scene almost had the feeling of a little mercy. Oppie saying he's afraid he has blood on his hands, and Truman shaming him in the same breath he whipes his hands of that metaphorical blood and reassures him it's all his--all while waving a handkerchief like he took him literally.

God Gary Oldman making me write essays with his 2min appearance.

ANYWAY. Yes, it's dark. The "I am become death, destroyer of worlds" line is iconic, but it was also a straw waiting to be drawn. The scientific world itself was gestating this monstrosity, and Oppie was the midwife. First willing, then reluctant. And my heart goes to him for that.

A Noxian appears

Turning as she heard someone question her the tall grey haired woman looked vaguely amused as the light made the scars on her face all the more obvious. Regardless of height someone she felt like she was looking down on the person even as she turned a bit more. One arm mostly hidden under a red side cape with the other muscular and exposed asides from red fist wraps around her hand and trailing up by her elbow. This woman displayed power, and confidence in a way no Piltie could... and with that particular feel that so often came from someone who knew and could deal violence.

"Who am I? I'm Ambessa Medarda, and I'm merely out for a walk. I thought I'd see what kind local of local cuisine might be available before settling down for the evening... is there something you need?"

Season 2024 Look Ahead

A very quick summary of the dev video posted an hour ago. This summary is mostly skin/champion-related with very little regarding gameplay.

Skarner VGU is very close to being released

An Arcane character will be receiving a VGU early next year -> this was specifically called an "Arcane-inspired VGU", aiming to bring "their Arcane version to the rift" featuring updated visuals, voice lines, and gameplay, which leads me to believe that this character is Viktor though Singed and maybe even Heimerdinger also seem possible.

Shyvana VGU will be released in 2025 after the Arcane character VGU -> her VGU will focus more on visuals and expanding her lore rather than overhauling it. from the concept art, they appear to be working on making her buffer, which was, from what I saw, a common grievance about her Immortal Journey splash art.

Dragon ADC Smolder has been revealed. His abilities can be found in a video posted by SkinSpotlights.

Mel's mother, Ambessa Medarda, will be released as a champion and "won't be for the faint of heart in game".

Arcane S2 will bring new gameplay and new skins -> based on the trailer, both Singed and Warwick appear to be contenders for receiving an Arcane skin. Viktor, especially as a fan-favorite, also seems likely, though I'm not sure how that might work if it is released before his supposed VGU.

The following champions will be receiving a prestige skin in the first half of 2024: Rakan, Ezreal, Kindred, Evelynn, Kayle. Rakan's has already been revealed to be Prestige Dragonmancer Rakan. Ezreal's prestige will be for this year's Lunar New Year skinline, Heavenscale, which will focus more on an ancient thematic similar to Lunar Revel.

Other champions receiving a Heavenscale skin include Lee Sin, Kai'Sa, Master Yi, Diana, Janna, and Smolder. -> this makes Kai'Sa's second Lunar New Year skin when counting Wild Rift's Lunar Fairy Kai'Sa (third if you also include her Special Edition/Prestige), Ezreal's second (third, again, if you count his prestige), and Diana's third without any variants (bc she's the moon get it).

New Primal Ambush skinline revolves around tiger thematics and draws heavy inspiration from Southeast Asian cultures. Champions receiving a Primal Ambush skin include Vi, Talon, Sivir, and Riven, each with icons.

Porcelain, Faerie Court, PROJECT, and Blood Moon will be returning in the first half of the year -> this was not included in the video but was posted by BBB: the champions receiving a Porcelain skin include Kindred (prestige), Graves, Darius, Miss Fortune, Morgana, Irelia, and Aurelion Sol.

Old legendary skins will be revisited to receive loading screen borders.

Rammus and Olaf will probably be receiving skins this year.

[ N ] OXIAN TRAINING .

Noxus emboldened the power of strength and power. If you cannot hold your own in a battle, you are useless to Noxus.

Every child in Noxus begins their training at the tender age of six. Unlike other societies that might start an education in science or languages; Noxus starts their military training and prowess. A child goes through rigorous training including strengthening of the legs with running or wrestling as well as upper body building. As children, they are required to fend for themselves, stealing food as they can but also if they were caught stealing they would be punished with beatings. The purpose of this? It taught the children how to be resourceful, and cunning, and learn when and how to strike to get what they needed. The lesson was meant to ingrain the ability to use tactics and how to steal without being caught; just the same with how to fight without being killed.

If a child did not survive, they were not strong enough to be among the Noxian people and therefore either left on their own, outcasted by their families, or died from starvation or being too weak. Being a Noxian is a tough life and if one could not step up and learn how to survive, then Noxus wanted nothing from them.

As a child grew in age, the training became more rigorous, including the lessons of war tactics and domination, of handling weapons (weapons could be chosen by the child and what best suits them and their wants), and learning how to fight. They were put through many physical trials to hone their bodies and prepare for the harshness of war.

Mel struggled as a child due to these harsh conditions, but she did not fail as many would think she would. Many times she would go hungry or cold, having to find ways to find clothes and steal food. But she was smart about it, she watched as other kids got punished, so she worked on being stealthy. She got beat just like the other kids if she got caught, but she learned far quicker how to be a cunning fox, and how to distract and misdirect others.

She also dealt with a lot of hazing and ridicule from the other kids. Mocking her 'beauty' and how she was as slender as a tree and could break. Mel had no means to defend herself, and while these kids were bigger than her, she learned how to use a silver tongue to mock them back. Mel learned to manage, she had to work hard with her disadvantages. the Clan Merdarda was well known for their powerful robust build, and strength of ten men. Ambessa was an icon among the Noxians, and Mel stood on the complete opposite spectrum.

Still, she did not allow her physical build to dissuade her desire to prove herself to her mother. She might not be able to go on and on in a fight, but she learned how to manipulate a situation to her advantage. She could find the most damaging spots on a body to hit, which would cause someone to fall over or a muscle to spasm. She would never win a fight outright in a melee event, but she learned how to fight dirty. With each test thrown at her, she worked hard to prove herself. When it came to weapons training, Mel took on a spear rather than a broadsword of a dual axe. It was insulting to Ambessa, that her daughter picked a weapon so unlike the Medarda fashion as she wielded a Dual head broad axe. Still, Mel was determined to prove she could be as good as her mother. The spear allowed her to fight from a distance without getting into a melee match fist to fist. she learned how to wield smaller knives, shaped like her spear, and throw them to incapacitate her enemies.

No matter what she did, though, she always fell short of her mother's standards. No matter what she did, despite surviving every trial and learning to be resourceful, cunning, and powerful in the way she could, was never enough for Ambessa. Mel looked weak to her mother, in every action and every move. Despite Mel's constant search for approval and praise, her mother ridicules her as harshly as the other children.
