2. If you were to travel in Japan, where would you like to go?

Sakura: “Well… a place worth taking a walk.”

Nirei: “We should all go to Okinawa, it looks like fun.”

Sugishita: “Dunno.”

Kotoha: “I want to see the snowy scenery of nature in Hokkaido.”

Suo: “I’d like to go to a tea plantation in Shizuoka and pick tea.”

Hiragi: “I want to try snowboarding, so probably a ski resort.”

3. What is your favorite seasoning?

Sakura: “Ketchup. Omurice with ketchup is the best.”

Nirei: “I like to eat rice cakes with sugary soy sauce!”

Sugishita: “Dunno.”

Kotoha: “Japanese-style soup stock. With that, I can make anything delicious.”

Suo: “I’d say soy sauce. It's sweet, isn't it?”

Hiragi: “It's delicious if you put miso on nigiri rice and bake it.”

4.) What do you think about before going to sleep?

Sakura: “Fighting.”

Nirei: “I think about everyone I was with that day.”

Sugishita: “Dunno.”

Kotoha: “Pothos's sales status.”

Suo: “The dragon sealed in the left eye is about to rampage, so I guess that's it, haha.”

Hiragi: “If I can’t sleep, I try not to think about it.”

5. What would you eat for your last meal?

Sakura: “What… Why is it the last one? I’ve never thought about it.”

Nirei: “High-class meat. I want to eat til I’m full!”

Sugishita: “Dunno.”

Kotoha: “I dont care what I eat, I just want to eat it with everyone at the facility and the teachers.”

Suo: “Hmm, I don’t need to eat anything.”

Hiragi: “If it’s my last meal, then that must mean I’m in a bad situation, right? That means my stomach hurts, and I wonder if I can eat it. If I can eat it, I might say Katsudon.”

6.) What happened recently that made you happy?

Sakura: “At the butcher's... I got a bonus when I bought croquettes…”

Nirei: “I was able to have small talk with Mr. Umemiya.”

Sugishita: “Dunno.”

Kotoha: “Customers really liked the new menu.”

Suo: * “I had two tea pillars stand recently.”

Hiragi: “I got a ticket for my favorite band.” (LETS GO TOGETHER PLEASE!!!)

* When pouring freshly brewed loose-leaf tea, you can sometimes expect to find a tea stem/pillar in your tea. It’s considered good luck if one of those pillars stand vertically.

7.) What would you do if a stranger of the opposite sex asked for your contact information?

Sakura: “What?! What are you going to do when you have it!?”

Nirei: “A-are you sure it’s mine you want!? Not Sakura, or Suo’s?!”

Sugishita: “eh… uh…. um…”

Kotoha: “Sorry~ I have a boyfriend.”

Suo: “I don’t have a phone, sorry.”

okay okay okay okay okay all right here we go

point the first: dave bautista and david dastmalchian are hot and therefore we are fully justified in wanting to smash them together like ken dolls

point the second: the 2021 scenes

rabban and piter never interact on page in the original books but denis made the choice to have them in scenes together because narratively they kind of fit as opposite sides of the spectrum of house harkonnen and that is fun. their canonical film scene having the vibe of "this fucking guy" on both of their parts fits the characters and belies a necessary amount of shared history, which is interesting.

plus, things that were deleted: bautista describes a scene where rabban is essentially trying to intimidate piter (i'd guess after their sauna scene with vlad). dastmalchian says there was a short scene of piter and rabban together where he's torturing a prisoner. this is probably the same scene. torturing a prisoner in proximity is basically a date for a mentat i think.

the choice to extend their screentime (even if for the pragmatic reason of not having to cast feyd until he'd have more than a minute of screentime and because denis loves his daves) creates a dynamic that is really cool! the slavering, entitled, shrieking manchild of house harkonnen and the coolly sadistic mentat? it's very hot to think about.

point the third: narrative functions.

isn't it hot when foils kiss?

within the realm of dune, not speaking to the prequels/graphic novels, just the first book, rabban and piter essentially function as the top tier of baron harkonnen's operation - they are equal opposites, like real actual narrative foils. piter is a mentat and assassin and therefore serves a more subtle, back-end function while rabban is front-facing; he's the older of the nephews, he's a count and he's been ruling arrakis for a while.

the baron literally has an evil plan that involves taking back arrakis, installing piter as the ruler and then killing him and putting feyd in his place. when piter dies, he just does the same plan but with rabban. he treats them as interchangeable despite how different they are. they're at the top of vlad's list of "guys everyone fucking hates" together!

piter is also power-hungry. it makes sense that he'd see the most susceptible to manipulation harkonnen as an appealing target to sink his claws into. piter would absolutely treat rabban like a meat shield against the baron and, conversely, i think rabban would try to use piter to figure out how to keep his uncle happy. neither would succeed, but they would absolutely get wrapped up in each other trying.

additionally, they can't kill each other. neither of them have that boundary with anyone else, and could murderfuck their way through giedi prime, arrakis and lankiveil and the baron probably wouldn't care. but piter can't kill his boss's nephew, even the stupid one, and rabban can't damage his uncle's property. so even if they did hate each other, they would kind of be trapped in this state of flux where they couldn't do anything about it, anyway, so why not just fuck about it?

plus, with piter being a spice addict and rabban nominally in control of arrakis, there's a certain amount of poetry in the idea of piter being attracted to the source of his vices.

i conclude the manifesto with this excerpt from the novel:

like the baron thinks rabban is afraid of him but he's actually angry at him? come on.

I really want to write a fic where Shen Yuan and Shang Qinghua just. Don't click right away.

Shang Qinghua is too "old-fashioned." He has adjusted too much to the period they now live in to count as modern, not really. Most slang has gone forgotten and he has not a single clue what happened in the last episode of Naruto. The Internet is a faintly wishful daydream, but not something he thinks about every day.

Shen Qingqiu is "immature," and throws this world's ingrained social norms out the window the second they're alone, leaving a small thing in Shang Qinghua's chest absolutely scandalised. Shen Qingqiu is fully ready and willing to spend three hours debating the choices made in anime that came out just before their death, and is disgusted to learn Shang Qinghua doesn't care about that anymore.

They sit on opposite sides of a table and they both think that they should be able to relate to the other, but they can't. Time has changed one of them but left the other untouched.

I think they'd still get along, it would just take an uncomfortable few weeks where they both feel out the edges of their friendship. They learn to speak the same language again. It just takes a bit of effort.

(It'd also make for some delicious Shang Qinghua angst. Child of two worlds, child of neither.)

Unalive -- A Love Letter

I came across the word unalive first in a tumblr post. Reading it several times over, I got that it showed distaste for the term but was yet unaware of its censorship-roots and tik-tok popularity. For a split moment before my mind caught up and started thinking, my non-native-English-speaker brain went “new word; un + alive; looks like [unsee—unsex]; associated with [impossible—reality-shifting]” and I fell in love a little. No, no, I fell hard in love, lots in love, okay, with unalive. Sorry. I know it’s a bad word.

But unsee, unsex — the one who wishes to unsee is the one that has seen, when Lady Macbeth asks to be unsexed it is to higher god-like powers, unalive suggests; the hand that kills had a hand in a-living you in the first place. The Cambridge Dictionary defines unsee as “to return to a situation in which you have not seen something” to unalive would be “to return someone to a situation in which they have not been alive” ;;; this is TERRIFYING actually. It is worse than being merely killed.

What the hell is unalive. What the hell happened. It’s so grammatically weird, I’m not sure it’s a verb or a noun. An action upon someone or a state of being.

ok hi haha lol I dont rly feel like going in circles in my head forever trying to figure out whether, among other "smaller" things, being left alone in a room w only media as a child and not feeling like I had even a semblance of a personality for most of my life counts as "trauma"

a lot of these parts of me are new, I'm just recently putting names to them and it feels as though I'm developing facets of personalities in my mid 20s after a lifetime of either feeling like I'm basically just ADHD in a person, an amalgamation of kins shoved into a body, or something made of guilt Also shoved into a body.

I don't like, claim to know what this means. but I don't think a lot of my current mutuals would feel comfortable interacting w me bc I don't necessarily believe in the black and white of what plurality is. I'm not able or planning on getting any formal diagnosis and while I'm discussing this w my therapist they're very much not one to pathologize

I definitely don't feel like one person but I dont think id count for most of you as a "system" as the different parts of me feel as though theyre still developing. take all of this as you will, I'm not going to stress my body out more by trying to figure out "what" I am as I've been doing that my whole life and I'm kinda tired of it.

I know that I'm not entirely one thing and feel Enough like multiple things for myself, but blurred in a lot of ways. like some sort of gem with many different facets.

not sure where to go w this tbh take this how you will. im not comfortable saying I'm leaning one way or the other regarding system discourse, (<- not a phrase i want to use but the best shorthand i have) as I genuinely don't believe the human brain is nearly that black and white.

I don't know how to say "my gender is something nonhuman and not able to be comprehended while adhering to our current society's standards of what men and women are supposed to be, never mind the fact that my preferred form is not a human body at all" without the other person being concerned...

#It goes beyond furry really i just don't feel like I'm human at all. I never really have #And i don't mean not a person although when I'm very depressed or the PTSD is hitting i get that too #I mean a non human person. But people either think I'm severely ill or joking when I say that and i unfortunately(?) am not #It's not even like I'm kin of a media species or person or whatever. I just don't see myself as human but i could draw it #I don't know how to put it into words. It sort of shapeshifts. But its core is the same #But either way when i look at myself in pictures or the mirror i don't recognize it as being me. I know it is logically but #It feels like I'm inhabiting a body that isn't mine. Like I'm in a costume or playing a game #Its kind of distressing sometimes but I've basically learned to live with the feeling. I probably will never own my body and idk #It's fine i guess. I don't know what it's like to be comfortable in your body or love it or whatever. I don't know if i ever will #And I've kind of given up hope on that changing. All i can do is pretend it doesn't bother me and keep going #Although i guess that's my outlook on.. everything lol #Whats the opposite of learned helplessness.. saying it's self reliance sounds too good.. it's more like learned lack of trust

never done one of these so i thought i'd try it.

my 2nd full year as an Artist.... developed a lot. looking back at stuff from a year ago is painful as usual. first half of this year was mostly takarazuka. in march i started "painting", in the summer i started doing "lineless", then i realised that's basically painting but now i understood it and was having fun.

in september i started doing tons of black and white stuff to clear my head and because i was so inspired by witch hat atelier.

i want to keep improving

#this isnt so much The Best Thing I Drew That Month as what represents the month artistically/emotionally to me.#like november was simply the persona 5 month. and december has to be lucifer.#(also i made a LOOT of comic-type stuff that isn't really represented in this image but was lots of fun.)#it's not like before 2020 i had never picked up a pen. i just Didn't Know Anything. i just doodled on paper and showed no-one #i feel like i both drew a lot in 2022 (which i DID) and still didn't draw or learn enough or at least not efficiently enough. =_=#i also finished two fics and worked on two zines. next year i want to print my own things and do more stuff. and make artist friends.#i barely socialised or did anything other than drawing. i'm glad i had so much free time but uhh i also want to Live More.#sometimes i feel like Getting Serious now and drawing Properly and sometimes i feel like stopping drawing altogether. idek.#i just dk.......#hope there were some people that enjoyed my stuff. it seems like there was. i feel like i'm at least at the beginning of the next stage #2020...we don't talk about that. 2021 ok starting to be able to draw. 2022 finally able to draw closer to what i want. i love a lot of it.#i guess that's something.#especially in sept/oct i was really inspired. i barely used the internet except to post art it was so good. my own world #i didn't use the internet basically at all in june either - but it was the total opposite. i barely drew at all. *examines myself*#onwards i guess................. *picks up my bindle*

like, i was sure i'd love it from the preview and it absolutely delivered. why does he sound like that, i want to cry. i had to do so many mundane things today, all while just wanting to scream at the top of my lungs. i'm still processing. i did read a translation earlier, but my brain is still just going brrrr, so i'm not going to go into depth on that right now, but aaaaaaahhh- i like that from a random person's point of view this is going to sound nothing like what my himeru-filled brain is going to do with it. i like the ambiguity. much like himeru, it walks a very interesting line of real and not quite real. i think it suits him that it's written in a way where it's so undefined, generally speaking. makes the contrast of him wanting something more tangible all the more striking and painful :'( also raises the question what that 'clearer outline' is supposed to look like or if he (or anyone?) even knows? i also find the notion that one's 'shape' is created by their perception through others really intersting here.

i'm gonna need to ponder this for a bit longer.

as newjeans wraps up promotions, i would rly love to hear ur thoughts on their debut! im kind of iffy on some of the styling and songs bc of the members ages but i think that overall they were rly successful at establishing a distinct identity for themselves within the industry

broadly i agree! the totality of the marketing/graphic design/styling/production design are all very aesthetically uniform and by going for the more clunky end of the y2k spectrum (for the graphic design at least), it really visually set their promo apart, which does give you an edge in the current industry. personally their run up to debut was more successful than their actual debut, if that makes sense. the elements i liked the most were the website and the hype boy introduction mvs, but i find their music to be earwormy in a mildly annoying way and their concept is just not for me (like literally, it's marketed at teens and i'm a decade older than all of them), so the actual debut didn't make as much of an impact on me. i was initially a bit skeptical of their totally blind debut strategy it absolutely payed out with the hype boy mvs, which are such a good use of multiple narratives and also using the functions of the platform they are on. i'm pretty sure they're all public access now, but right when they dropped, only one of them was publically listed, so you HAD use the title cards at the end to direct you to the other three mvs, which were all unlisted. i've never seen a kpop company do that before, that's some straight arg level shit, which i am a BIG fan of.

i too am iffy about some things because of the members' ages (i like the choreo in abstract but not for 15yros, the styling the same, and what the fuck is up with cookie, jesus christ), but overall it was a pretty solid debut that established them an identity right away. i'll be interested to see how they follow it up with the first cb.

#i'm sick this is my slightly fever-induced thought stream in the rest of the tags sorry ->#all the 1984 stuff is really interesting. the position of both ocelot and kaz as the people running room 101 is really fascinating.#because it somehow manages to place huey in the position of winston while also having venom be in the position of winston.#<- would that make quiet julia? actually yes it does bc of her nature motifs.#and the whole game seems to doublethink of whats real and what isn't. though it starts to tell you what isn't real its still there.#and then with moby dick you have pequod which is just. the ship. and queegueg who is ishmaels friend. which is why its kind of perfect he i #the other pilot we see who takes kaz places. and theres other stuff with him but i don't want to get into that. i could go on for a while.#but whats interesting is that ahab seems to apply more to kaz than it does to venom. esp because his own deception results in his downfall.#whereas that isn't true with venom if youve played mg1 he just kinda keeps going with it to at least some degree.#and i guess kaz is working for foxhound but you know what i mean.#ocelot even being the perfect counterpart to starbuck who works at kaz's side but disagrees with his methods to an extreme.#he isn't of the same morals as starbuck but its just the oppositional character type.#does that mean cipher is moby dick. yes actually bc of the leg thing with kaz. oh my god.#<- funny enough i am actually getting moby dick back out of the library bc i never finished it and its been ages since i read what i did.#i remember the narration being kind of nuts.#honestly the lord of the flies stuff feels less like a reference and more like eli read that book and decided he wanted to do it irl. lol.#i can't say these books are even close to being favorites but i'm intimately familiar with both 1984 and lotf so those are. those.#and moby dick is genuinely just kind of. what in the hell did i experience. theres a lot to unpack.#and i didn't even finish the damn thing.#ok i'm done now i just needed to get that out of my system. now i'm off to read veniss underground. 👍#.txt
