ive been rereading A Theory of Butterflies and Other Insects by the lovely @/calamity-unlocked and i caught the swap au brainworms so. heres some rambling about what i think would happen if anne wound up at toad tower (long post warning!!!!)
Anne would likely follow a similar path that Sasha does, but for very different reasons, which is something interesting to think about
Anne would also rise to the top through friendship/compliments, except they are genuine
Anne’s strength is genuine interpersonal relationships, whereas Sasha’s (at least in Prison Break) is manipulation, but they both thrive in this specific situation
It only takes Anne a week or two to befriend almost everyone in the tower, except Grime, who thinks that shes manipulating his guards
“BRADDOCK!  Why is the creature out of her cell?  She’s dangerous!”  “Aww, but boss, she’s teaching us how to paint our nails :(“
Eventually, when Grime is attempting to interrogate her, she spills out everything.  How she blames herself for getting her and her friends trapped here, how if she’d only stood up to Sasha for once and not stolen the box they would still be safe at home, everything.
In Wartwood, she was always occupied going on weekly adventures, but at the Tower, she had a lot of solitary confinement time to reflect and inevitably blame herself for what happened.
Remember, this is early s1 Anne- she is full of self doubt and, as she said herself, does not love herself yet :( so all this spiraling think time is not good for her
This FINALLY gets to Grime.  She starts sobbing and he's like holy shit,, she's not a horrible evil beast, she's just an insecure teenager
He lets her out and she's actually very helpful
She learns to swordfight and is a very loyal soldier.  She’s been a follower her whole life, it comes easy to her
When the herons attack, she rallies the troops and inspires them to fight back, earning her the role as Grime’s lieutenant !!
there will inevitably be more, but i only tackled prison break for now since beyond that she would have to interact with marcy and i havent entirely sorted out marcy in wartwood yet!!
im also very excited to write abt sasha in newtopia... i think she and andrias would hate each other so so much and she wouldn't stop poking around the castle

rambling rambling and MORE rambling. divorce trio edition (tm) and a little bit (it spiralled) abt anne being a foil to andrias
i have. been thinking a bit abt a calamity-divorce trio swap au. but it's honestly mostly me just thinking abt the juxtaposition between andrias and annes roles being reversed and. like. How that plays out for them
they are just so fascinating to me bc of how goddamn similar they are. And tc&tk fed me really well on that narrative, what w them being 'betrayed' by their friends, essentially, and seeing how it affects them in the long run. Wherein Anne had unconditional love and support from her loved ones, andrias had it too... w barrel, but instead he pushed the guy away, indirectly causing his death. andrias blamed himself in all the wrong ways when he lost that music box, Anne saw the mistakes she gen made and attempted to own up to it. It's so tasty hehehehehhrhe
BUT. YEAH. it's really... Kinda tragic honestly, that divorce trio, the trio that seemed to have stemmed from a much healthier relationship compared to our dearest calamity trio, was the one that had a much worse fall out than our three girls. and it's so convuluted, thinking abt these three.
andrias was doomed the moment he thought his father had been right, he had a thousand years to reflect, he never changed, he refused to. leif didn't trust him enough to talk him out of using the music box and went against him, feeding into the accusations Aldrich fed into andrias brain, and barrel was caught in the crossfire :( yet he also never thought to fight against it, he just followed orders until the end, and while I think that's a very wonderful trait, it also makes me feel sad. I hope he found more to protecting those villages than from just following orders, if anything, being revered as this honoroble leader of all toads years after his death, when amphibias past of conquering other worlds to expand had all been but forgotten, I think it's the least of what he deserves.
they really just. Lacked communication. And that's so sad to me, bc a single eleven minute episode grabbed my heart and shook it so hard it practically screamed to me that they gen did care abt each other. and it all crumbled over the span of just a few days.
Ok
I was talking Abt a swap au let me get back into that. SO. vilanne is really interesting :))) to me :))) hehehehehe :)))) I like both of these an's so obviously my next choice is putting them in each other's shoes
'this is just an excuse for you to have vilanne isn't it' AND SO WJAT. THIS IS MY HOUSE YOU CAN LEAVE WHENEVER U CAN KTS NOT LIKE I EVEN INVITED U HERE /lh
Anne just. Being bitter and mad and broody. HAHAHA tasty tasty tasty tasty. I do not know what big changes will be made, considering that if you think abt it, she's practically a lesser confident andrias who had actually supportive and loving parents. If her holding a grudge just appeals to me
No fucking clue what to do w the rest of the trios swap wise. This part is an Enigma to me I am just trying to think of villain newt Anne ugf. I need to sleep.
I think. The saddest part is just. Them being alone in the scheme of things. 1000 years is a long time. What are you trying to achieve when that time has long since passed. What are you trying to prove. What are you feeling.

hi! this is a free rant coupon! heres ur excuse to talk abt anything you want :D
hmmmmmmmm
i wrote down some notes for my swap au? specifically anne which. i know i talk about a lot actually WOOPS but theres some marcy stuff too hold on. theres a LOT so its under a read more. read if ur interested idk
anne:
it'd be so weird for sasha to like meet anne again and she's kinda hit w the weight of her previous actions ..and then noticing that anne is kinda weirdly docile like moreso than usual and is like...so worried..
Anne likeee. acknowledges that king andrias is like. rly fucking suspicious and she doesnt have good feelings abt him... she kinda accepts hes probably not a good person. unlike with marcy, anne isnt going to Cling to andrias' companionship,
she DOES want to get home; its her top priority. she decides that it would be unfair of her and her friends to meddle in the affairs of a world theyre not supposed to even be in, and though andrias is suspicious as fuck she'll carry out what she needs to get things back to normal
but all of these decisions are made with this Undercurrent feeling of Wrongness that anne cant quite escape bc she knows if she steps outta line she'll prob be punished, andrias being a bad person is just kind of an open secret between him and anne basically at a certain point
and anne is never encouraged to do the right thing with andrias; any attempts to help outsiders or people in need is stamped out with some rationalization from andrias, he stifles all of her attempts to let her heart and compassion make decisions for her..
marcy:
one thing i wanted to point out is marcys absolute confidence in her own abilities? she's confident in her knowledge...which i think would play nicely w the sorta attitude at toad tower.
so she is rly good at outsmarting grime. I think that would make her v interesting to him, and she does actually help them during the heron attack. she doesnt have much of an idea how the world of amphibia works and I don't think toad tower would be very helpful in clarification (dont think theyre quite interested in particulars, it wont help marcy whose trying to learn as much as she can about it)
so basically she has no clue abt the in depth politics of amphibia and its system, its more slowly unraveled to her as she gets used to life at toad tower. I think without andrias to cling to, she is able to start clearly see the issues that its world is rife with, ESP since she doesnt start in newtopia here. her frame of reference will be quite different as she actually experiences stuff outside of it
I THINK without her attachment or encouragement/manipulation from andrias shes able to easily spot what's going on and begins to suspect andrias as a king, which i think post toad tower getting destroyed- she talks about this suspicion and conclusion to grime.
So instead of her motivation being like sasha's, its a lot more of a Bigger Picture motivation, she's come to care about grime and the lives of the toads; but also the frogs. and she wants to make things right, to wartwood AND to sasha
anyways, toad tower is full of brutally honest toads and I think its smth that kinda grows on her, she adopts a more rogue like persona to adapt to living there, and everyone kinda rubs off on her. without sasha and anne there she gets a lot more comfortable being honest about her feelings! since she doesnt really have to be agreeable to sasha and doesn't feel the weight of Being a Burden to her Friends which prob plays into why she tries to hide her feelings so often
which is rly good for her growth. she's still rly rough around the edges and obviously gets a little too deep into toad towers stuff that its hard to take it back, but being able to tell ppl her feelings and talk abt them instead of the repression she was used to is important
so back to going too far. once she starts getting a better idea of how the world works, she's not as on board as the stuff toad tower is doing (the taxes etc. ravaging frog villages) but she's at a point where its kind of hard to leave? she would be a fugitive really
she's kinda forced to help come up with a plan to get wartwood and at this point she knows sasha is there so she has to go along with it, but marcy is just kinda waiting for an opportunity to get the toads to stop what they're doing and think of the bigger picture (how suspicious andrias is ). but toad tower can be very stubborn
at this point she has developed a new persona/front for herself but with a bit more honesty, which is quite a different marcy than sasha is used to
and a small note - she also starts to subconsciously copy some of grimes mannerisms (when he grins it also makes her grin sjkskdkz )

I haven't not watch amphobia but good lord pls give me an essay of why marcy is messed up
right okay. so if you haven't watched then you don't know abt Marcy's arc, so let me fill you in [bc idk how much u know]. u wanted an essay I gave u an essay <3
so. the three girls got to Amphibia in the first place by means of this really weird music box [called the Calamity Box] that Anne shoplifted on her birthday. both Sasha and Marcy pushed her to shoplift it; Marcy was the one who had discovered the box's existence in the first place [this knowledge is brushed aside for all of s1 and the majority of s2]. when they opened the box, they all got teleported into Amphibia, each of them sent to a different location, etc etc.
so! Marcy ended up teleporting into the heart of Amphibia, in a city called Newtopia, where the king of the whole place lives: King Andrias. Marcy grows close with him and becomes his advisor; it's implied that at some point they vented to him pretty hard about their issues. what issues, you ask? great question, I'll get to that in a sec. Marcy of course tells him about the box and how they got here in the first place, and Andrias of course takes great interest in this. at some point, he proposes an idea to them: charge the gemstones on the box, and he'll show the three kids how to use it and how to travel to other worlds. so eventually all three kids meet up, they successfully charge the box by means of three temples scattered throughout Amphibia, and then they travel back to Newtopia to see Andrias.
it is at this point that we're shown that Andrias is fucking EVIL!!!! his ancestors were colonizers and used the music box to travel to other dimensions and conquer their worlds. now that the box is found again, he wants to continue their legacy. Marcy notably does not object to anything he's saying during this whole spiel of his. tensions rise until it looks like the kids [Anne and Sasha] and Andrias are about to fight, but then Marcy FINALLY steps between them and objects, telling Andrias that they thought no one would get hurt. to which Anne and Sasha are like. what. and Andrias is like yeah, Marcy, tell them the truth!
this is the plot twist that made go batshit insane when I first saw it: Marcy sent them all to Amphibia on purpose. they knew exactly what the box would do when they pushed Anne to shoplift it. they had read about it on Earth a while ago and what its powers consisted of. then, their parents told them that they were going to move to another state; they didn't wanna leave their friends, they ran out of their house crying, they stumbled on an antique shop that had the box sitting on a shelf, and, hey—what if they could just run away? what if they could just take their friends with them and never have to come back again? and that is exactly what they did, without telling their friends what they were orchestrating. FURTHERMORE, they're completely on board with Andrias's idea of having adventures in other worlds while he colonizes them, as long as they can keep their friends by their side for forever [fucked up, if you ask me!]. the scene in which this is revealed is brilliantly done and I highly recommend you watch it here—one of the best scenes in the entire goddamn show, imo. the line delivery, the framing, the way Marcy cries... it is very good. [please watch it I rewatched it just now and it never fails to drive me up a wall]
the episode in which this scene happens ends with Marcy getting stabbed through the chest with Andrias's flaming sword after an inevitable fight breaks out. their last words before they slip and crash to the floor are "I'm sorry... for everything." they're alive, barely, and Andrias ends up preserving their body in something resembling a pickle jar. and now, as the current plot stands, they are possessed by an entity containing the minds of Amphibia's ancestors, because Andrias is an asshole and forced Marcy to be the host.
SO LIKE ANYWAY. I THINK THIS IS ALREADY A LOT OF INFO FOR YOU AS FAR AS HOW FUCKED UP THEY ARE, BUT LET ME GIVE A BIT OF MY THOUGHTS BEFORE I WRAP UP THIS LONG-ASS ASK:
Marcy Wu is selfish. they are naive. they are amoral and have very little understanding of the thoughts and feelings of those around them [low empathy, imo. to be clear this is not me saying that people w low empathy are inherently bad—I myself lack empathy, but I like to think I’m not that bad]. and most of all, I see them as a performer.
look, they are obviously to SOME degree separated from reality—they fully convinced themself that they’d be able to essentially kidnap their two best friends from their homes and live with them forever and ever in other dimensions and that said friends wouldn’t be upset with them for this. that’s not NORMAL. their literal very first instinct when Anne gives them some resistance is to try to convince her that they are solely responsible for her happiness and growth while Anne’s been in Amphibia—that is fucked up. “I gave you everything”??? that is a RAW line to be coming from a sobbing and desperate middle schooler.
what I mean by them being a performer is this: they set up their stage. they set the scene. they write their plot, they play their part, they live entirely in this fantasy they’ve created for themself. and all their characters are playing their parts, too—everything’s going good, everyone’s saying their lines—there were a few fuck-ups but you know, that’s fine, the show goes on, right? they’re ready to reveal their hand with a flourish, to swoop in and say hey, isn’t this great? what if we did this til the end of time? aren’t you happier here?
and then their stage starts to catch fire, there aren’t enough buckets of water to go around—their hand is revealed, but not in the way they planned on it—everything’s slipping, the audience is getting agitated and they don’t understand, because they’re the protagonist—right? right? and then there’s flames at their feet and flames through their chest and they’re choking out an apology they don’t fully understand, and there’s strings around their wrists and ankles, and the stage is no longer their own. and the strings drag them up and puppet them until they’ve become the antagonist—but maybe that wasn’t so much of a transformation as it was a realization. and hey, why not? the show goes on.
anyway :D watch Amphibia it’s worth it

GAYS I WROTE ABT MARCY BEFORE CANON WRECKS MY SHIT LOL
Marcy liked people.
Sure, sometimes talking to them got tiring after a while, but she adored watching them.
She liked studying the intricate ways they interacted with each other, and she always marveled at the swift changes in their relationships.
She never had to worry about those things, her friendship with Anne and Sasha was as sturdy as the ground she walked on, so she observed and studied her classmates with the curiosity novelties always sparked in her.
Wait.
The ground! That was she was!
A geologist! A virtuous scientist of the movements of the tectonic plates in her class.
She didn't even know if that was the right word. She might have to look into the topic more, it seemed incredibly interesting.
Accurate or not, the world felt right. She danced over the fractures of relationships and jumped over the rifts between people and admired the fireworks of vulcanic rage's eruptions and-
What an incompetent geologist you were, wit .
Wha-
We said we don't believe in your capabilities in the geologic field, wit .
Oh, right. The Core was still there.
Such rudeness. We thought our presence would be less... forgettable, wit .
Forgetting about the crime against nature in her head might have sounded like an impossible task, but those memories were just so-
A testament to your blindness, wit .
Blindness? What a thought. Marcy took pride in being extremely thorough with her research. And her data was top notch! Apart from her own observation, she had Anne's first-hand and Sasha's blackmail material. It was absolutely fool pr-
Your thoughts range wildly from underestimating and overestimating yourself, wit . You're quite the complicated person, aren't you?
Human brains were bound to be complicated, Marcy had to learn it the hard way.
All brains are complicated, wit . But yours is a... jumbled mess? Is that how you younglings say that?
Great. So her consciousness was invaded by a boomer now.
We do not know what that is; but we do know, from the information we put together, that a geologist shouldn't leave any data out of the picture just to gain a false sense of security, wit .
The core was now walking in circles around her. It kept itself mostly as a nebulous shape, but it had its way of changing it when it was needed. The Core's pace was irregular, as if the support for its feet wasn't the same.
As if it was walking with only one shoe.
You are avoiding the problem with your research, wit .
Because it obviously had no problems.
It seems we must spell it out for you, wit . You disappoint us.
Andrias must have been truly slacking with his flipwart exercises.
Having gotten used to listening to the overlap of multiple voices at once, hearing only on at a time feld weirdly out of place.
Forgive our youngest, wit . Now tell us: would a good geologist have ignored earthquakes?
No and-
Where would you place on the scale the events in the castle then?
Oh.
Oh.
We'd say at least a 9 on Ritchter's scale. Should we use Mercalli's instead, wit? After all, that's the one used to measure damage, isn't it?
The damage. The damage she created.
She was truly a bad geologist, after all.
Look at how she clings to that stupid metaphor!
The Core threw its head back in the motion of a soundless laugh.
Some strands what looked like like a ponytail bounced on its back.
Does it give you comfort, wit? Did you think distancing yourself from everything that was happening would save you? Did you thinks that your safe ground would save you from drowning in the wretchedness of what you did?
Marcy's lip trembled. Her eyes got glassy.
The Core was right. She wasn't a terrible geologist. She was just a terrible frie-
No. You're worse than that. I think you're a terrible person, Mar-Mar .

I HAVE QUESTIONS ABT THE DOUBLE AGENT MARCY AU!!!!!
Does Andrias not keep in touch with her??? How long is Marcy supposed to be in the Boiling Isles???? Why does Belos just invite and accept her into his ranks???? Does he know she is human??? If not, what does he think she is??? If he does, why is he so chill with that and not figuring out how she got there???? Why is the Owl crew so trusting??? Like there is doubt but they accept her kind of fast. Will Marcy be telling them about Amphibia??? Why she was sent there??? The coming invasion??? What happened to her??? What she did??? If she does, how do they take it??? If she doesn’t, how do they learn all that??? How do they take it???
O.O Ogosh, this caught me off guard - I’m really glad you’re interested in these AUs! These are all really good questions, and I’ll definitely keep these in mind when it comes to refining this story. Let’s see here…
1. My original thought is that Andrias does implement some sort of way to contact her and keep them under his thumb, but it ends up getting destroyed in some way.
2. She gets there a few weeks before the events of Agony Of A Witch, and from that point, it follows the same timeframe as the original episodes do.
3. I had an idea that something went wrong with the whole Grimwalker project, so Belos needs to find a new coven head on short notice. His coven have been keeping a close eye on Marcy, noting that, though she seems fairly new to the Isles, she also seems to have a lot of potential. This catches Belos’s interest, figuring that, since Marcy’s new here, they won’t be to hard to sway toward his point of view.
4. Marcy tries to keep her ears hidden as much as possible, and once they get their Marsh Mystic outfit, she ties their hood securely over her ears. Belos is led to believe that she’s some sort of demon or creature not from the Isles.
5. That’s a good question! I originally figured Luz would be more sympathetic (and a lot more curious) towards Marcy after finding out that they’re human like her. I also think that, after the events of Eclipse Lake, once Amity realizes that one of the core problems is that Marcy doesn’t believe they can get away from Belos (added to the people-pleasing student ideal/complex they have), getting in the way of their actual intentions, she’d communicate this in some way to Eda, King and Luz - as well as the fact that she outright offered to let Amity keep as much Titan’s blood as she needed. I figure this would make them more willing to help Marcy out. I’m definitely gonna explore this arc more that you’ve brought it to my attention. 👍
6. I wanted to explore Marcy’s potentially doubling down on not wanting to dwell on or talk about her past, due to their experience with opening up about those elements of her life - so, even when they do reveal things about her past, it takes a while to get to that point, and they have a tendency towards vagueing. She ends up telling Luz that she was in a dimension different from the demon realm at some point, but only to give context about Joe and their axolotl features.
7. Andrias stabs her and puts her in a tank so he can add axolotl features to them and do a little strategic memory tweaking. He wants to use her as a scout/test dummy of sorts, to scope out the other worlds he takes in conquering - a chunk of this AU’s premise is admittedly just my crossover brain taking the “I will not just rule this world, but all worlds” line and running with it. The axolotl DNA is for the stem cells, to heal Marcy’s physical wounds, and give them other benefits such as gills - all to make her more resilient and effective at what he intends to use her for.
Thanks for the questions - this was really fun and insightful! 👍

EAH Brainrot Hours: Y'know something I've always loved about EAH? Whenever someone is angry and using magic, Faybelle and Raven, for example, their voice get *extremely* distorted and inhuman sounding and it's so.. spine-chillingly interesting. What if when Brooke's doing her Narrator Voice in EAH, her voice changes, too, but not exactly like an angry magic user's does? Again, add on if you'd like!- Andrias Betrayal/Brooke Fic Anon
Soooooooo I think I am misunderstanding what you mean but what I’m getting out of this is: Brooke’s voice isn’t actually as squeaky and high as we hear it in the show and Brookey just had a case of “recorded voice somehow sounding different when played back” or it just gets fucked when she tries to narrate instead of actually talking and she is just super annoyed and frustrated abt it like-

dndads amphibia au is calling my name but how would it work... the number 3 is so important to the lore/worldbuilding but theres 4 teens......
like obviously scary is sasha, and i think link would be anne. and the core and the doodler work out perfectly
but then whos marcy??? and what do we do with the other one??? taylor has more of a marcy/wit oriented personality, which is kind of necessary to be the wielder of the wit gem, but normal seems more like the type to Trap His Friends In a Frog Dimension Because He's Scared of Losing Them. And it would also make sense for him to be marcy so then taylor could be sprig (bc link and taylor are so close.)
but then it would also be really interesting for scary to be marcy? she's not the wittiest person but it would make more sense for her to live with andrias (who is willy for sure) and doodler-possessed scary would be SUPER NEAT
BUT SHIT WAIT possessed normal is my bae and ik that was a headcanon thats been floating around..... idk im already thinking to much abt it

hi op what are your thoughts on uhhhh *spins wheel* sasha's season 2b arc (hope that's not too broad a subject)
edit: putting this under a cut bc it got LONG but. enjoy (???)
okay I gotta start by saying I didn't expect the depth of it at ALL; I knew Sash was featured prominently in the ending episodes of s2 based off of what my friend informed me, but like. I was not expecting 4.5 episodes to be almost ENTIRELY centered on their character arc and design (the .5 being the first half of True Colors).
that being said, I think Sash's 2b arc is PHENOMENAL bc of the way the nuance in it is written so incredibly well. this character is about to perform the most antagonistic move that they've pulled in the whole series so far, which is the act of betraying both Anne and Marcy in order to support Grime and get them home safe, if they so choose to go home (as an aside, I think at this point Sash has probably decided that she likes it more in Amphibia than back home, and there's one line that I'll get to that seems to be VERYYYY indicative of that. and if this is the case, it makes sense to me why Sasha would want to help Grime at all and why they don't really seem quite eager to follow Anne and Marcy back home. but! important to note that they still give those two the choice to go back if they wish, because at the end of the day Sash loves them and wouldn't try to force them to stay). and yet we see!! this back and forth!! this FIGHT that's happening in their mind, the way there's a flash of guilt they express at the very end of The Third Temple directly after confirming to Grime that things are still going according to plan, their convo w Anne at the end of The Dinner, the entire plot arc of BotB, and ofc the Sashanne duel in True Colors. I want to make an analysis post for each of these episodes because they're so fucking PACKED w shit to analyze, but I'll try my best to touch on all points here.
obviously we first learn of Sasha's plans to betray Anne and Marcy in The Third Temple. but what's important is that throughout the entire episode, there's several points where Sash switches back and forth between manipulation and honesty. I can talk abt this w confidence just based off of the whole. *gestures vaguely at myself.* but Sasha's initial apology in this episode was sheer manipulation, I think we all know that. however, when Sasha has to do their final test in the temple, those few lines they exchange w Anne in the moments before they raise themself up off the floor and launch themself into battle... those were genuine. they know they've been a shitty friend, and they're willing to accept that. so you have this game, almost, where Sash keeps flipping between putting on a mask to ensure they can keep up their facade until Grime secures the city and genuinely acknowledging their behavior and knowing that what they are doing is not going to sit well w Anne and Marcy.
so with that, The Third Temple sets the premise for the rest of the episodes of the season as far as Sasha's character arc. The Dinner is such a good fucking episode to follow with, because it hammers in the fact that Sasha has not changed. what it ALSO hammers in is she is still acting in her own self-interest - to put it in her words, she wants to get the friendship back under control. they still lash out, they still have a short fuse, they're still heavily opinionated and rough around the edges and prickly because this is an environment where they feel threatened. they're finally reuniting with the two people that mean the absolute most to them, only to realize they've been left out of the narrative. also not for nothing, but their trauma in Reunion got joked about in this episode which led to them blowing up over it, and like. I'm giving that one a pass bc man. anyway. at the end of the episode they say they like who they are, but it's said with a frown, which I think is fucking GENIUS. because there's an actual meaning to this line - they don't ACTUALLY like who they are. we have plenty of evidence that they don't like themself. what they MEAN is that they don't want to change, because that would mean giving up a security that they need in order to keep themself together. AND THIS IS DEMONSTRATED CRYSTAL CLEAR IN BOTB. they literally PURPOSEFULLY detach themself from Anne and Marcy bc they know they want control but they ALSO know that their behavior is just going to hurt the other two, so instead of compromising, they just go hey I'm gonna do my thing and you guys can do yours. and we'll both get what we want. and if that's not evidence that this character is fucking GRAPPLING with how to grow and change as a person, idk what is
and then. sigh. we get to True Colors. ofc Sash goes through on their betrayal - they're loyal to a fucking T once you dig beneath the surface, and they wouldn't just not follow through for Grime. what is absolutely KEY here is the fact that they are still leaving room for their friends' best interests, as in they're not trapping them in Amphibia but rather explaining how they're gonna help Grime take over, implying they'll go back home once they're done, but if Anne and Marcy wanna go back now, that's cool. if she didn't give a fuck abt their wellbeing, she'd just keep them there w her. but she doesn't. and then Anne starts retaliating, and. well. we ALL know Sasha does NOT do well with criticism of any kind. so they just go okay I'll send you back now then (and this is STILL an action motivated by what they think is best for Anne). BUT THE LINE. OHHHH THE SUPER IMPORTANT LINE THAT MADE MY HEAD SNAP UP AND MADE ME PHYSICALLY GO "YIKES" OUT LOUD. is Sasha saying "say hi to your parents for me." it's like a goddamn full-on sucker punch packed into one sentence - seven words, and all of a sudden we know for sure this kid does not have a good home life. I could go into elaboration on Sasha and the way she views familial ties throughout the show, but I won't bc that's gonna take this already super long answer and make it even worse. regardless, Sasha has once again flipped the switch and is indulging in their worst behaviors, which is full on controlling and holding power to act on what THEY think is best in the moment. and the moment Anne snaps, the moment Anne yells about Sasha being a horrible person, literally EVERYTHING shifts and the reaction from Sasha is VISCERAL. and what I mean by that is. it's not just the look in their eyes at those words. it's not just the sudden and complete loss of meaning, of self, of motivation after they've lost Anne's support. it's not just the way they stare at their own reflection in a sword that represents the color of the person they're trying their hardest to protect. it's the way that for the rest of the goddamn episode, they spend it trying to do the one thing they fear the most: giving up control. I'm gonna elaborate on this whole aspect in a different ask bc I was asked abt it, but the way Sasha acts towards Anne after the fallout, especially at the beginning of the duel and during the confrontation w Andrias, is fucking monumental. they struggle so much with how to change their own behavior, yet the very moment they lose the support of the people they've been trying so hard to love and care for in their roundabout way, they can change the way they act. because who the fuck is Sasha Waybright without Anne Boonchuy and Marcy Wu? in her mind, no one. she doesn't have any idea of who she is outside of this, so ofc she can act differently when she's thrown out in the cold. after all, it doesn't take much to warp an identity that doesn't exist.
tldr; god. how do I sum this up. Sash's 2b arc is smth that's incredibly intricate and complex from the way they constantly flip between desperately needing control and feeling guilty that this is the way they need to live. and True Colors is able to finally demonstrate to us the final piece in how they operate - without their friends, they lose sense of who they are, and their personality comes undone. in 4.5 episodes the writers managed to give us 1000 aspects to their character that we hadn't gotten to explore, and we can see that Sasha was never meant to be the villain. so. final review is that's some good shit👍

Idk what fnc stands for but I am very curious!! Your word is.,.,.,.,…..,. Family
*chuckles evily* yesss fnc ask >:D
fnc stands for friendly neighborhood calamity!! i dont wanna give too much away abt it bc i actually have an askblog for it (which has been. very inactive and im so sorry to anyone whose been following it. ill try to update it soon but idk). but for context: its an all human au and the trio are all high school age. marcy is an intern for dr. andrias leviathan who owns this rly big science/tech company, and anne and sash are doing their own thing
anyways for the fact: marcy’s perspective on “family” is. messy. dr. andrias is probably the only “family” they have left - their sister dipped a long time ago, and their parents… theyre out of the picture. andrias took him in a long time ago. he gave him his internship, provided for him, encouraged his interests. he’s basically their dad, is he not? but even after all these years, its strange for marcy to think of him like that. they thought that over time theyd be able to see the doc as family, and thats not entirely wrong? he looks up to dr. andrias. he’s his mentor, his guardian. but, father? something just… doesnt feel right about it
