hiiii! i just read your angel fic and it was so amazing omg😭😭😭 and i wanted to make a request for hazbin hotel if its possible, like the reader is from goetia clan, and somehow (i didnt think much about this request im sorry😭) ends up in the upper circle of pride ring, aka where hazbin hotel is, and i wanted it to be more alastor baised, because we know he doesn't like people who are stronger than him, and goetian are royals, so reader is stronger than him, i dont know you can wing it as you like i just really like your writing style!!

it’s pretty straightforward, though he conceals it perfectly with that for-show smile of his. no one could’ve guessed that there was a demon in hell that made his blood boil to the highest degree.

but he made sure the façade never crumbled, even when you showed no interest in him and his sinister advanced to use you as leverage for him.

he remembers the day you came to visit the hotel to congratulate charlotte. alastor remembers all too well because you paid him no mind and had your fill in questioning his true power. that’s when he found out that he loathes aristocrat hellborns—you, specifically.

“who are you again?” you ask.

“oh, forgive me,” he smiles, his eyes narrowing into slits for a second.

“i am the host of the hotel! you might’ve heard of me from my radio broadcast.”

“radio?” you ponder aloud.

“and here i thought radio had been long gone. vintage,” you chuckle. a bow of greeting you returned. “but quite irrelevant nowadays, won’t you agree?”

the way he smiled... so rigid and on the edge, you already knew how to get under his skin.

“i suppose we have contradicting perspectives on the matter.”

you and he were the only ones present in the hotel, with the others out and about with their daily activities to bump up their morale to be redeemed.

and all of the places you could’ve made yourself comfortable in, you decided to lounge in his radio broadcasting tower. the nerve. you’re about to set off all of alastor’s accumulated rage if you were to break anything or even misplace anything from their original position.

“i heard the rumors,” you tell him.

inspecting the surroundings, alastor’s alert enough to not let his guard down. it’ll never completely settle.

“of how you broadcasted the screams of the overlords you overtook.”

that piqued his attention.

you? having heard of him now?

how pathetic.

“i’m well-aware of how i get under your skin,” you smile. “and i’m glad i’m able to do so. it’s entertaining to see your glare, how your aura shifts, and how your shadow mirrors your true emotions.”

“ha-ha, you’re quite observant, sir.” alastor forces him to laugh.

“then, i hope for you to broadcast my agonizing scream in this very tower one faithful day.”

the mood dips. the usually easy and light aura is suffocating, and alastor’s knees buckle, forcing him to kneel in front of you. all of this against his will, his eyes piercing through yours.

this triggered alastor’s fight-or-flight appearance, the figure becoming sharp and menacing as if he were as much of a threat as he used to be—as if he were still in his rising prime.

“because i love the challenge,” you conclude with a chipper clap. “and i’d love to see you try and fail miserably.”

“fuck you,” he spat, smiling. “where’s the originality when you’re only quoting my exact words? haha.”

“i thought you’d be much wiser than to question my motives. though, i suppose i should be heading to the main lobby as i hear charlotte and her party have just arrived.”

“think about it, alastor. if you play your cards right, you might be able to make a deal with me—or even better, kill me.”

alastor was not a man of faith; he does not believe in gods and deities, but he does pray for the goetia’s downfall. and when the time is right, he will strike with all his might just to laugh at your misery.

A/n I wanted to write and I had just reread @yuyusuyu princess chronicles and I wanted to do something similar with wooyoung :) pls I'm dieing I h8 using ppls ideas but I'm in writers block and I need to write rn 😭 so creds to @yuyusuyu for the idea lol I hope this is good cuz I luv her work and I don't wanna ruin her reputation lol I also have a feeling this is gonna be a short fic bc again I'm in writers block and that's all i can take rn lolz

Wooyoung never thought he could find a relationship that was near the thing he and san had going on (even san doesnt know whats happening tbh), but here we are, you slowly winning over his heart. How? He doesn't know. He has a very very very very very- i can keep going but what i mean is he has a very secret procedure that even san doesnt know about, but it's a way you can take over his love life, so you somehow slowly completing the 5 steps was very concerning.

Step 1. Treat him like royalty

Well you don't have to bow down and worship him but you just have to treat him him like the mona lisa, praise him- and maybe worship him, he likes to be praised and feel noticed-attention whore is his middle name after all- so when you walk into the room with him and everyone else and you notice him first and COMPLIMENT HIM AND ONLY HIM?!?! He was feeling a little lightheaded, “ oh hi woo! I like your hair, it looks different! In a good way of course-” you said slightly rambling at the end “ oh- um yea… i um-” he stumbled out “ i uh WASHED IT, yea, yea i washed it." He said trying to redeem himself and act cool because seonghwa was looking at him weird. “ for once you washed it” san said scoffing, without him knowing- or did he? San had saved him from an awkward situation “HEY i do wash my hair thank you very much” he said huffing, pouting but quickly opening his eyes when he heard you laugh.

Step 2. Find him funny

(or just try to laugh at his ridiculous jokes)

The sound of your laughter filled his dorm, san had left to go out with Seonghwa, leaving him alone and so of course he invited you just so he could hang out with his now crush for a movie night!! Why else would he invite you over…?He found himself in a trance listening to your laughs, they sounded like music to his ears, literally he was listening to the rhythm in your laughs and thought they sounded so much like you, the beat matched your personality. ‘ wooyoung stop that's weird, and nothing like you.’ he said when he came out of his little bubble when ever he heard your voice tinted with worry as your friend was looking at you with an unreadable expression on his face and was very silent, which was very concerning given its wooyoung. The look of worry on your face made his heart flutter, where you really worried for him…? ‘ shit im fucked’ he thought

Stept 3. Worry/care for him

“ wooyoung? Are you in there?” your voice sounding small compared to the yelp wooyoung let out upon hearing your voice in his dorm.” OW SHIT, ning is that you?!” he yelped, he had hurt his leg and couldn't attend practice, him not being there worried you given he had always been there, so you went to his dorm. “Woo what were you thinking laying on the edge of the couch,be careful you could hurt yourself more if you do that?!” You said scolding him lightly,the worry in your face very clear,” you didn't hurt yourself more did you?, here let me get you some food so you don't have to walk.” wooyoung hoped you didn't notice the slight blush on his face when you lifted his chin forcefully checking to see if he hurt his face during the fall. “ Goddammit, step 3 , 2 more to go and I'm done for..” he mumbled “ did you say something?” you said, peaking your head out of the other room. “ OH-UM-NO '' he quickly said, hoping you don't suspect anything and hoping you truly had not heard anything he said.

Step 4. Being rough with him.

Wooyoung's heart fluttered when you cupped his face and moved it left to right to see if he had hurt his face, he had fallen trying to learn how to skate. He had failed horribly but that's not what mattered right now, what mattered was you were holding his face. “ Wooyoung, I told you, you have to be more careful” you said with a slight pout, worried about your best friend. You had to put your whole body strength into helping him up because he was so zoned out all his body weight was on the floor. But the words that snapped him out of his little trance were enough to heal him right then and there “ when we get home do you wanna cuddle and watch a movie?”

Step 5. Physical affection.

“Ninggg hurry up and bring the popcorn” wooyoung shouted, he had been alone in his and sans dorn because apparently san couldn't deal with wooyoung's ramblings about you so he left with seonghwa, of well at least that means he can invite you over more right? Wrong, this is the first time in weeks he's invited you over because he couldn't muster up the courage to ask you.” I'm right here..?” you said laughing when he turned around and saw you, his eyes widened in amazement on how you could find that much popcorn in his house, where it came from? No idea he's been trying to find popcorn for a month and has found none so how did you find some? No clue, but he didn't really care as his heart picked up when you sat very close to him. Very close.and his heart picked up even more realizing you two were watching a scary movie. He could be your knight in shining armor and hold you close when you got scared. Well you ended up holding him like he's a baby but that didn't matter to him even though he's going to be very embarrassed later. What mattered right now to him was trying to calm his heart, from the jumpscares and the fact that you two were there cuddling?! Mostly the first option , but hey those things were scary, don't judge>:(

Another time he found himself in this situation was on his birthday, wooyoung and you tangled up in each other limbs, the others where getting the place ready so of course you offered to keep him busy while the others fixed up the dorm for him, so you invited him over, which he couldn't say no to you. He was laying on you the couch and you were running your hands through his hair, which in hindsight helped him alot with what he was going to ask you. You had single handedly finished all 5 steps without knowing? Or maybe you did know? He doesn't know but he needs to ask you about it. It's been eating him alive for the past week. He knows he shouldn't ask on his birthday because what if you say no? But he couldn't wait because, what if you say yes? No birthday present could top that. Here he goes, his heart racing he manages to strangle out a “ hey ning…? “ ew he thought, why did it sound like that, he was cringing until he heard you say back “ yes? Did you need something?” you smiling down at him calmed him down a lot more than he thought “ can i ask you something?” he took a deep breath “ of course, anything woo” you laid your phone down to put all attention on him, still playing with his hair. “ i um- do you um “ he stuttered “ dammit” he said sitting up “ is there something wrong wooyoung?” concern filling your face “ i like you. Like I ‘like like’ you.” he said getting it out there, but before you could say anything he continued “ and i was wondering if you wanted to go out with me sometime…?” he couldn't look you in the face because he felt like he would explode. For real he was holding his breath for so long he felt like he was going to burst. “ woo i-” you giggled and he turned around ready to be faced with rejection. “ of course i will” you cupped his face and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. He looked like a lost puppy, eyes wide and frozen in shock “ wait you- you like me to?” ugh he sounded like a 2nd grader finding out their crush likes them back. “ Of course I do woo, who wouldn't love you?” you giggled at the end. Just as wooyoung went to speak he got interrupted by your phone going off saying it was time to bring him back to the dorm for his surprise.

Hwa: hey were done over here if you wanna bring him back

You: okay! But warn san if he's coming back to stay with wooyoung lol

Hwa: oh good lord

Smiling at yourself you took him by the hand and told him you two where going back to his dorm for something.Lets just say he went back to the dorm holding your hand and he was the happiest birthday boy in the world. But wooyoung had one more question before he went back to the dorm "wait so did you know about the list or not?" He questioned you "what list?" You questioned back "wait so your telling me you completed a whole goddammit list without knowing it ever even existed?!" He squealed out "Oops" you shrugged and laughed

Sorry if this is completely wrong igore if it is LMAO but I noticed you seem to have different hcs for how mind lost his eye!!! Like in Seattles Going Under it was lost in a vague fight or something, but in art w/ the resonance cascade he lost it prolly during the ambush? I was wondering if you had info to share on it/infodump abt or if its just whatever makes the art more fun!

hehe youre observant and actually right on the money. yup! so essentially i just have different eye trauma head canons for whichever version of freemind im drawing; since he doesnt actually lose his eye in canon, its up to everyone to fil in the blanks if they wanna use the popular headcanon. i wrote . a good chunk of stuff . so i put it under the cut . but heres a picture to be like a . tldr

I sorta like his eye already being gone before the resonance cascade (in a non-freemanverse scenario). he does verbally say something like "my eyes" in the series, indicating he has two, BUT . well. its a headcanon. so we can have fun with it . my eye loss pre-rescas freemind stems from my original freemind design (before i ever started posting half-life on the internet) where he had short hair, but i needed a way to distinguish him from og gordon, so I used thr popular one eye headcanon. then I realized him losing his eye bc of the military goes perfectly with martini losing an arm. that bothered me for a while until i realized i could just have multiple freemind designs + headcanons. if theres different variations of Gordon and martini, why can't there be some of Freemind as well? grins grins

i left it open ended in my SGU because people have their own headcanons and I thought anyone could just fill in their own. if I did every make a canon eyeloss event prequel thing, he would've lost his eye during college in some sort of either freak accident (like tripping on something and injuring himself bad; I like this one because he'll lie and say he was in a fight) or, like u said, a fight . for SGU, college was a low point in his life of him struggling with freedom from his parents for the firsr time, but them and their ideals still holding him hostage. he is simultaneously more repressed and more emotionally volatile than present!gordon. then, when his parents die, hes just given a clusterfuck of emotions. so why dont we add physical trauma? whatever the sgu canon event eye loss was, it was definitely related to substance abuse issues. whether that be he was high/drunk and got into an accident, or fought someone... not sure! yet. the only thing that i can say was that no fire or chemicals were involved, since his tearduct is (unfortunately for him) wholly in tact!

but for freemanverse!freemind, he should lose his eye during the rescas since its like thematic and stuff if (almost) every Gordon Loses Something. also, angst. whenever I draw freemanverse (even in a domestic setting) in my head, i always think of them surviving the rescas together! i have. convoluted freemanverse headcanons. the eye loss is an important freemanverae event because, like martini, it gives him a valid reason to REALLY dislike benrey (but in my au, benrey isnt the big bad, so he "redeems" himself kinda sorta) . and then it ALSO opens up freemind to be upset and vulnerable, which allows him to bond with his fellow freemen.

also I want barmey to tend to his wounds and call his scar(s) badass. im not immune to buttermind and i never was.

honorable mention: sims freemind, who has both eyes physically but only can see from one. this is due to me unable to properly texture a glasses + eyepatch combo, that and i have no experience with 3d modelling (I did try!).

i hope this is a satisfying enough infodump!! I'm sorry if it's a bit vague; a lot of my ideas tend to be fluid. i also like taking inspiration from what other people think! some of you guys are way super smart and have awesome ideas. i am not immune to well articulated essays and thought out headcanons

random ass lps popular thought but i literally dont understand people who treat brooke like shes innocent solely because her mom is shitty??? like to me it seems like a very clear "villain origin story that explains why they are the way they are but doesn't redeem them". her mom is neglectful and abusive, yes, but a lot of her actions through the series are like. completely divorced from that conflict. brooke may be taking ques from her mom with the whole cutthroat social attitude she has going on but her actions are still very much her own, like she only got the baseline ideology of "you need to stay at the top to have any worth" from her mom and everything else (the manipulation, cheating, blackmail, etc) is all stuff she chose to do herself to attain that goal. and even THEN she's doing it all completely to serve herself, her mom couldn't care less about her daughter's status in high school. brooke probably knows this and is doing whatever she can to derive self worth from her social status alone because she's all too aware that her mom just doesnt give a shit. so everything she does is still on her

i guess a more succinct way of putting it is like. brooke's backstory is more of a frame for her mindset than something you should feel sorry for her over, yknow? because as badly as she's treated at home she turns around and treats everyone around her the exact same way. abuse is cyclical and it's crystal clear that brooke is willingly continuing the cycle because she's obsessed with the power it gives her, power that was stolen from her that she's now stealing from others. and the kicker here is she HAD chances to make positive changes, both with her dad treating her nicer while he was still alive which establishes that she does know how to be kind as well as savy being willing to reconnect and give her genuine friendship again which could've helped her out of this toxic mindset. but she threw both of those chances away because she's so power hungry and is CHOOSING to continue acting like her mom because that's what gets her the most power/worth.

she needs help, but she doesn't deserve forgiveness or sympathy because of all the heinous shit she's done. also, you can't help someone unless they accept the help and/or are willing to change, and we've seen that brooke is NOT willing to change at all. idk man i just dont think we should be so fast to absolve her of accountability when she hasn't shown any willingness to overcome her circumstances. like not even "oh i want to change but things are so hard" no she doesn't want to change full stop. shes stuck in her mindset and that's her downfall and that's the point

anyway brooke would fucking love marina and the diamonds. unrelated to everything

Gamzee in the epilogues should have been uncomfortably nice. I think his way of showing everyone that hes been "redeemed" is by acting exactly how he did before murderstuck and everyone is terrified of him because they dont believe him. And then he does something heinous completely out or nowhere and is like oops :o) and goes right back to being nice. I think it would have been a fun balance of his pre and post sober tendencies and made him into a cohesive character and just like his trollian handle says - terminally capricious. I think it would have been fun to see his moiraillegence with karkat to have lasted more than the one page and seeing more interactions between the two of them as karkat tries to keep him in check. I think it would have been a better use of his comedy and tragedy themeing, his grappling with his place in the narrative and what it meant to him now that he escaped it. What is scarier - someone you know to avoid because theyre just consistently an awful person to be around or someone in which theres no telling if theyll be a kind, supportive friend or a homocidal maniac at any given moment. hi this is "That Thing". he probably has a name but everyone just refers to him with various vague and slightly rude terms. he thinks this is funny so he doesn't correct them. if youve ever seen me make a post/tag a post vaguely mentioning someone and its "Formatted Like This" its most likely about him. the average charlie princesable follower doesnt know about this guy which is funny because if youre in a server with me you are Painfully Aware He Exists because i love making people look at him.

his entire bit is that i thought it would be really funny if there was a guy who had no positive traits. no redeeming qualities. what if there was a guy who was so sucks and he made it literally everyone around hims problem. you'd get this guy. he's supposed to be extremely one note and lack basically any character depth because it's really funny to me to have a cast of characters i have put so much thought and effort into to make sure act like Actual People and then just dump in this dude who kills people for fun and thats it thats his entire character.

as previously stated yeah he just kills people. thats his gimmick. he shows up and kills people crazy style. no one takes him seriously because he's like. Cartoonishly Evil. so theyre all like. oh this guy cant be serious. there is no way a real human person would act like this. unfortunately there is. he sucks so bad and unfortunately he is having a great time being here.

everyone also hates him because hes an asshole and well he loves this. he loves that everyone hates him. he thinks its hilarious. any attention is positive attention or whatever.

he shows up during chapter 2/part 2/watever the fuck because twitch (pretend you know who that is) is like hm. you know its been weirdly difficult trying to kill sherwin. because that is the plot of charlie game. i wonder if that guy down the street still kills people. and theyre like hey do you still kill people? can you help me a kill a guy. and hes like. yeah thats what i do. extremely riveting i know.

he had a completely normal childhood he literally just did a complete 180 over the course of a single night and only one person is actually concerned about this.

other fun facts i want to mention that dont need their own paragraph: his hair is naturally black but he dyes it orange exclusively to piss his younger sister off because she has orange hair. he has two swords because thats the most extra shit i could think of. he genuinely never stops smiling it’s infuriating. his associated animal is a rabbit. all of my friends hate him. i hate him. he's existed for 2 years and has unfortunately had a massive impact on the plot. he's the only charlie game character with a fancam. i like to think his the culmination of me growing up watching 2010s animation memes. i would say we should kill him with hammers but unfortunately that is exactly what he wants.

tldr: everyone thinks sherwin is the worst person alive and its just because i never talk about This Guy. i am accepting questions and concerns at anytime.

Not sure if you are interested in receiving these sorts of asks anymore but I have lots of takes about missed potential in MHA because Hori IMO has a lot of good ideas but instead of developing them - leaves things half baked or takes questionable choices with them.

The Todoroki's - more specifically Todoroki Rei and Todoroki Fuyumi.

Todoroki Fuyumi - she had to basically act as mum to her younger brothers when her actual mum had a mental breakdown due to her father. That HAS to create some complicated feelings both with Rei (which is never explored) and Endeavor (which again is never explored bar Fuyumi's want of a happy family.) It also should be shown to have an affect on how her brothers see her (which is also rarely touched on.)

Todoroki Rei - It should have taken her WAY more for her to forgive Endeavor bar remembering her favourite flower. It comes across as seriously unhealthy that Hori put this in and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that he's using this and her as a way to uplift Endeavor - especially when abusers acting like this IRL are usually doing it to manipulate you . IMO it would be more understandable for her to have an attitude similar to Natsuo or Shoto considering what she went through at the hands of Endeavor. It would also support that this facility is trying to make her get better rather than influencing her to think in a way that benefits Endeavor (letting those flowers through from someone who they know abused Rei is wrong IMO.)

It seems like Hori doesn't seem to want to show his women going through complicated or 'ugly emotions' like anger or hatred and this is a key example of that.

Additionally I feel like this storyline particularly as it is around such a sensitive topic should have been handled with more care. Particularly in regard to the "everyone is at fault" and the "Shoto is our families hero" sentiment Hori had Rei say.

It comes across as victim blaming and golden child (good victim- hero Shoto) vs scapegoat (bad victim - villain Touya). Something which a lot of NPD affected families have gone through at the hands of their NPD parents so no wonder those statements from Rei put a bad taste in peoples mouths.

A natural disaster didn't hit this family. The root cause (as Natsuo rightfully said) was Endeavor.

If Hori wants to redeem Endeavor (I dont think he should have - but not up to me) he should have let him take full responsibility and not retcon what had occurred to make Endeavor easier to stomach.

One of the greatest flaws in Endeavor’s arc is that outside of Shoto and Rei, we don’t really see how much it’s damaged the family. With Fuyumi, her desire to be a family again could be caused by Endeavor’s abuse but it isn’t explored nearly as much as it should’ve been. With Rei, this was a woman who couldn’t be in the same room as others, completely terrified of the world around her due to how Endeavor messed her up. Yet all it takes is one flower that she likes for her to suddenly be willing to forgive him? That’s just bad writing. In addition, like you’ve said, the series sometimes retcons actions of characters to make them look less bad, and one of those instances ends up being the moment where Endeavor hits Rei. All in all, compared to Katsuki’s arc, Endeavor’s is better written but still has extreme flaws.

i think some ppl fail to realize that while sephiroth is depicted to be a good person before nibelheim, he is completely to blame for his actions. yes, he was groomed into becoming evil. yes, he had a goddamn awful and traumatizing childhood. but he still had a choice and well, we saw what was it. and i do think jenova had a huge role into influencing sephiroth to destroy nibelheim, but the game later shows that sephiroth actions are his own.

there’s something so beautiful about a good character who saw the worst of society becoming literally the worst thing society could ever see ahem, anakin. and sephiroth being so evil that he is beyond any type of redemption is perfect.

i dont want to see sephiroth being turned good, i want to see him even more ruthless and cruel. he has the memories of his past self (og sephiroth) and knows cloud and avalanche even better. kinda rooting for him!

when you redeem a character like that, it takes away all of his importance to the story imo. sane sephiroth fics are great, love them, but it cannot be applied into canon.

i do approve sephiroth to be vincent’s son tho ! (just kidding, or not...)

Just saw your post in the tag about the Vees being "irredeemable" and I'm curious as to why you feel that way. It's a pretty common sentiment so you have company, I just personally struggle to see the justification for it especially in a show where the main theme is that anyone can be redeemed/deserves a second chance (or at least that is Charlie's goal).

We know that 1.) Charlie wanted to spare Adam, an angel that had been committing a devastating genocide against her people for decades, 2.) Charlie tries to see the good in Alastor even though he's a psychopathic cannibal that she recognizes isn't completely on board with her goals (and actively participates in the oppressive soul ownership system) and 3.) Charlie forgave Vaggie who actively participated in the genocide against her people. I'd argue Angel Dust and Pentious are far more sympathetic characters (to both us, the audience, and Charlie herself) since we are told virtually nothing about their crimes that landed them in Hell and we meet them when they're both at their lowest.

While I understand everyone has their favorites and the show likely isn't interested in exploring its central theme too deeply, I do think it would be such a missed opportunity not to have Charlie confronted with the hypocrisy of offering salvation to some but not all - to stumble in her beliefs and be forced to claim some people are "irredeemable". What does that arbitrary determination criteria look like to her? How is she equipped to make those decisions?

And, if the criteria to get into Heaven, isn't to actually confront your past and current life but rather sacrifice yourself for others (based on Pentious and his ascension) then that's absolutely (in my opinion) something the Vees would be capable of. If Charlie can look past the crimes of Adam and Alastor and offer them grace then she should be capable of doing that for characters like Vox, Velvette, and even Valentino.

I personally think it would add a lot to Charlie's character if she had to actually stand firmly in her convictions that every sinner has the capacity to change OR for her to grapple with the fact she is biased and her ideology is inherently flawed.

But those are just my thoughts. Like I said, I see "the Vees are irredeemable" get echoed quite a bit but am always curious where it stems from. I think there are a lot of good arguments to be made, but the setting/core theme of the show really challenges them (for me anyway). I think a bigger issue you'd run into is certain characters not wanting redemption at all, but with some plot adjustment I think you could make it work since so many of the characters are still blank slates this early on. And I hope it goes without saying but I'm not excusing the actions of any of these characters, simply challenging the idea of who is really "irredeemable" in a show where every single person is bad and they are already in "Hell" facing judgment for their transgressions.

Always an interesting topic and hope you don't see it as an attack or anything.

I appreciate that you asked this in a nice way, people often get very upset over it. Vox is actually one of my favorite characters. And if any of the vees were to get redeemed I think it'd be him. He is desperate to love, he loved alastor and now chases Valentino. And if sacrifice truly is the way to get to heaven, I can't really see Valentino being the one to sacrifice himself. At least, not how he currently is. I don't know enough about velvette to make a correct assumption. And to be fair we don't truly know how vox feels about angel. He may have called him a wh*re because he was trying to relate and calm down Valentino in that moment.

The only reason I feel they can't be redeemed is because they have the same mindset alastor currently does:

1) redemption isn't possible

2) I dont want to go to heaven if it was

Your take on Willow makes me really curious as to your take on Spike and whether or not you seen him as redeemable?

This is a complicated question that I don't think I have a satisfactory answer for. It's complicated because of the way they wrote Spike and his vampirism.

Angel was written like a completely different person than Angelus. Like it was acknowledged that he had been sort of a shithead before he was turned but the Angel we know in the two series is a person with a soul who is trying to atone and be good, whereas Angelus is a soulless monster who only wants to hurt people.

Spike isn't written that way. He is written as a more thoughtful character than Angelus even when he was still a villain, and he was softened even pre- initiative brain chip with his whole capable of being in love with Drusilla thing. And then he was played for comic relief, and then the Spuffy stuff which was helped along by the chip but the chip was never a soul, you know?

So it's harder to separate the Spike without a soul from the Spike with a soul because he acts like he has a soul a lot of the time even when he doesn't.

Not having a soul is Angel's excuse for every awful thing he ever did. Is he redeemable? Of course that's the whole plot of his show but it hinges on the viewer believing that yes, he is.

By the rules of the show, Spike should therefore be redeemable. But the vibes of my morality tell me I should not forgive him. But I do find myself forgiving him? What part of that is the desire to forgive the angsty bad boy and what part of that is earned by the narrative? I honestly don't know!

I guess it's also easier for me to forgive him because that scene was staged and played so horrifically that there was no ambiguity as to what it was, and he actually directly sought punishment/redemption for it. Whereas the Willow/Tara scene was wrapped in a happy disney princess musical number and I don't feel like either Willow or the show ever really reckoned with it? And because even Spuffy shippers acknowledge it was fucked up whereas Willow/Tara shippers largely do not?

Anyway. I dont have an answer. I have thought a lot about it for years and years and my conclusion is i dont know!

My hold at the library finally came in and I have possession of the community copy of S1 of Star Trek TNG. I love bad TV when it's fun but it seems like there are some episodes that were definitely just shitty and sort of bigoted... do you have recommendations for things I can just skip/episodes that are just good bad fun?

originally i was going to go through the whole series but that would take obnoxiously long when you have season 1 in front of you RAT NAO!! so for season one i would skip these two

episode 3: Code of Honor. racist as fuck. considered by many to be the worst star trek episode ever, of all time. deserved. writers should be shot. the only good part of it is the sillies here.

episode 13: Angel One. just kind of sucks. "what if the women oppressed the men!!!!!!" episode. completely understandable to skip. BUT! to be honest personally i would not skip it because riker has his tits out. oh man does he ever have his tits out.

code of honor is the worse between the two obviously and it has like 0 redeeming qualities (aside from clip i linked which could have been put in an episode that wasnt doodoo dogshit) but if you dont want to sit through an hour of reverse sexism the planet even for riker boobs i dont think anyone could blame you for also skipping angel one.

obviously there are iffy bits in season one outside of these episodes due to the curse of being star trek but the rest of them arent like "throw the whole episode away and try again" full hour of insufferability

i think overall the pacing was not bad but heres the top 3 things that suffered from it only being 8 episodes

1. the ghost hunting

2. the skull

3. quill kipps

1: ok so i get why most of this was lost in translation and i dont completely blame them but i miss the procedure of it all. the methodology. setting up circles on each floor, the tea ritual, the careful and regular temperature readings, etc

the biggest loss in this respect was the combe carey hall haunting. that should have had a FULL episode dedicated to it, so much was lost in this being rushed, with the atmosphere most particularly. i just feel like the story loses a lot of its heart without the attention to the details in this area

2: the skull just didnt get enough screentime it didnt get to stir up drama it didnt get to make fun of them enough it didnt get to make funny faces at them. SAD.

3: not even gonna touch on whatever that Thing they tried to do with him and lucy was.

no the tragedy was that they cut out all the important kipps moments for his character arc. they didnt make him as much of a shithead and they cut out a lot of his more redeeming moments too. a loss on both fronts if you ask me.

like the scenes with his team in the bickerstaff house, or the part he was supposed to play in the crypt during the finale. or more negatively the embarrassing series of losses he rubs lockwoods nose in at the beginning of book 2.

what they did try to do with him at the end was weak without these supporting moments to back it up

my only problem w mandalorian season 3 is that it all feels like it should have been season 4

rushed is one word that might describe it but it's not rven that. it isn't rushed as much as it never gives audience the chance to connect with what is happening.

din giving bo the darksaber is fine, BUT watching just this show there is NO explanation as to why he would want to do this. we do not get din struggling with it, we are not given a reason within this series that makes him giving it to bo a fulfilling yay experience.

one way this would have "felt" better would have been if there was a "season 3" (lets call it season 2.5 here) where we see din struggle with it. where we see him talk about it and try to make sense of it. and a season in which we get to connect better with bo and want to root for her. a season which establishes that she is now the best fit to unite all mandalorians instead of being told so by the armorer.

there is a season missing in which din deals with finding his purpose after grogu leaves to train with luke. and then mid that season we could have a proper BoBF cross over in which one mandalorian episode sets up din helping out in BoBF episode and grogus return.

the season doesnt work because it doesn't give us payoff for two most important events of s2 finale: darksabre and grogu leaving. we dont get to see din (the protagonist of the first two seasons, and the character we have all been rooting for) handle the consequences of these two events. instead we get bits of it in another show (BoBF), and resolution for grogus departure in that same show. completely outaide of the mandalorian narrative, and with no character consequence or development coming from these.

it also does not address the point of helmet removal which is something i assume din has struggled with during/after s2.

which is frustrating. very much so. especially with how wonderful s2 was with addressing the creed and din removing his helmet. we dont even get much of him working through that - that he removed his helmet three times since meeting grogu: once on the brink of death, second time to get vital information to save grogu, third time to say goodbye.

all of these OUT OF LOVE (i am soft!!)

either way, we do not address these specifically. we dont see him think on it more than him doing what he must to redeem himself.

im not asking for an insanely character driven plot. but the plot did not even accommodate for any of this. idk if it was because pedro could not be present on set so they had to do a rewrite but even in that case this just seems to be the wrong focus for this season.

St4ncy revival is weird because if it was just used to show that Steve has changed for the better, they did not have to re-introduce the romance aspect of it. Steve and Nancy could have just built their platonic bond without the show making it that Steve still has feelings for Nancy. That was pretty much unnecessary.

Same thing about him potentially dying. Romance part wasnt necessary tbh.

Unless St4ncy is really gonna be endgame, I really do not see any point in them introducing Steve's interest for Nancy again. Maybe I am wrong, but it just feels pointless to me. It is like them introducing Will's love for Mike in this season without any intention of doing something with it/without any intention of making Byler endgame.

I believe Jancy is endgame still but I really dont see any point in re-introducing Steve's romantic interest for Nancy. If that did that to show that Steve's dying in the next season will be sadder..... I dont get why the romance aspect should have played a role in it

I could be wrong but I think they just wanted to pick up the storyline of Steve being still in love with Nancy after s2 because he's sort of idealizing a relationship with her but unfortunately for him Nancy doesn't feel the same...

Nancy is still in love with Jonathan but she was feeling a bit insecure in her relationship because she felt Jonathan pulling away from her and started thinking about the possibility of going back to "the safety" that Steve would provide, but Nancy doesn't want the life that Steve wants and Nancy and Jonathan have too much history together and it wouldn't make sense to make her in love with Steve randomly

the only way I could see stancy happening is if Jonathan dies and then after the very final time jump we find out that Steve and Nancy are dating again but tbh I don't think it would make much sense for their characters for now and I don't think the writers will do this...

but anyway, they could use Steve being still in love with Nancy in a few different ways and one of these could be the reason:

they could make him sacrifice himself to save Nancy's life

they could make him sacrifice himself to save Jonathan and be completely redeemed for his actions in season 1

they could just make him understand that he doesn't need a relationship and his main priority will be his friends and himself ( and maybe he dies saving the kids and Robin? )

like in the end I think it's about Steve as a character and him learning something, either that he's willing to die for love and is the final hero of the show or that he gets to finally get over her on screen!
