I love the fact that Turtle could've ruined the economy with their magic bowl that can duplicate money and literally just used it for extra leftovers. Absolute legend for that tbh

Ooooo guys I was talking with my brother at 3 am last night and he actually used to read WoF (he's long since moved onto different pastures. very elden ring/dark souls-sy type of guy. my favorite and only brother) but he proposed that animus magic correlated with radiation that caused mutations in cell DNA which is why Darkstalker grew extra organs in his 2000 year sleep (the guy has an extra heart, obviously), Turtle should be dead, and Stonemover's scales are actually turning into carbon. Hear me (or him) out.
Disclaimer: He's probably just trolling me and I'm pretty sure that it's not the case, but here's a nutty theory that elaborates on what he said below. Also trigger warning for body horror below the cut
He argued that no way Darkstalker, big as he is, shouldn't be having heart palpitations every minute or so due to the Square Cube Law and how Darkstalker's heart obviously couldn't grow to keep up with his body.
I pointed out that Darkstalker had that invulnerability spell that made him immortal and he's got invulnerable scales so he's probably fine because the spell was made with the intent to keep him alive, but my brother said that the immortality spell obviously f*cked with Darkstalker's DNA and made it so that his cells couldn't die
So he proposed that over the years while Darkstalker was sleeping and growing, his cells continued to go through mitosis and they became cancerous, but the spell that Darkstalker cast just made it so that his body absorbed the tumors and they grew into new organs so Darkstalker has two or three hearts and an extra set of intestines to keep him alive.
I quote him "Qibli was stupid for not getting Turtle to enchant a blade with a width of zero and slicing Darkstalker open to see what was on the inside", wow, nothing like pulling an Arctic on Darkstalker. irony.
Furthermore, for Turtle, my brother argues that Turtle should be dead. He got a boulder tossed at him, after all, and even if he's got diamond hard scales, he's not 100% liquid-y so the force shouldn't pass through him, but basically ram into his ribcage and his lungs and Turtle should be pretty much dead from the boulder that Darkstalker threw at him during the Battle of Jade Mountain.
Also, he proposes that Stonemover's stone curse actually just made it so that his cells became pure carbon, and he says that while it's "stone", his scales are actually mutated and turning into pure carbon.
And he proposes that animus magic and it's accompanying radiation just makes dragons close to it stupid and more aggressive, which is why animi never have good ideas. (He said this, not me. he sorta hates WoF)
By the way this all started because I mentioned that Anemone was the "little magic pink sister of Tsunami" and my brother was like "IT'S A MUTATION" about her odd coloring and launched into the whole theory about radiation.

Because y'all enjoy my old wof stuff so much, here's more!
Tumblr media
Ice is the first animus dragon born into the Icewing tribe after losing Arctic. Queen Icebreaker achieved this by kidnapping an animus from another tribe. When she refused to follow Icebreaker's orders and cast a spell on herself to prevent her from ever casting any more, the Queen forced one of her sons to marry her. Ice was the result. Queen Icebreaker gave her this name, probably intending some sort of cruel poetic symbolism. All this happened in secret, shielded away from the tribe. The misfit family had to stay hidden in secret underground chambers. Mesa, the captured animus, tried to escape at one point. A guard, unaware of her importance, mistook her for an enemy assassin trying to break into the palace and killed her with his ice breath.
Tumblr media
Once Ice was confirmed to be an animus, the Queen set her new plan in motion. She had studied animus magic very closely all her life, with the sole purpose of returning it to her tribe. She made the little dragonet experiment with the magic, until Ice turned an Icewing into an animus. The Queen rejoiced, but she couldn't be careless with this new power. After all, everyone knew that using animus magic too much would cause the wielder to turn evil. She ordered Ice to turn her most trusted advisors into animi, but only allowing them to cast one spell before the magic would be gone again. Ice slowly began realising her purpose, and she did not like it. She began planning her escape.
After an "accident" Icebreaker gave her a special order: To enchant a pair of shackles that would prevent the wearer to be unable to cast any spells – unless the Queen herself allowed it. Ice was told that they were intended for the new animus army, but was chained down herself instead. The Queen had suspected that her little animus maker was planning to bail and took appropriate measures.
Tumblr media
Ice now spends her days in her chamber, creating animi and testing out the new spells Icebreaker came up with to strengthen her kingdom. Each new spell was crazier than the last, and it was obvious that the Queen was becoming obsessed with power. After all, if you have an army of animi at your disposal, why not try conquering the continent a little?

Cicada of the Hivewings
Daughter of the queen, Cicada is less of a princess and more of a weapon. Cicada's mother, Queen Arachne, wanted to ensure HiveWing dominance and strength, and learning about other tribes having animus dragons, she wanted to start an animus lineage, but not in a conventional way.
Finding several animus-touched objects, Arachne found a way to dissolve the objects and break them down to just their animus power, injecting it into a Hivewing egg. From that egg hatched Cicada, the Hivewing's first animus.
The bindings on Cicada's limbs are to restrict her unstable animus powers and are enchanted to physically protect her body from harm. Cicada is loyal to her mother, but a small part of her craves independence.

Fun Fact: I've designed her with albinism and partially based her design off of bleached coral and yellow anemones!

Okay, some people say that animi are wizards, but I personally disagree as I think they would be more similar to sorcerers by the DnD definition, users of a magic that is innate rather than studied that comes from the bloodline.

You know, even though I am sad that animus magic isn’t around anymore, I honestly wouldn’t have hated if this had been the actual reason it disappeared. There’s something poetic about the universe keeping a cosmic balance. Nothing comes for free. There is always a price to pay and the price of animus magic is the warping and devouring of the soul of those who use it and once that balance was disrupted it fades away. Animus magic kind of started off as this mysterious/sinister power and while I do like that it is played off as just another inheritable trait I also think it should be remain weird and mysterious and sinister.
