Like why on earth would this barely out of her teens girl be so infatuated already with an adult man at least ten years older than her and who’s actively harmed/killed people she cares for and/or colonized her homeland?

A question I have (and you can ignore it if you're uncomfortable) is I've noticed you had older posts shipping rhaegon, lucaemond etc and you seem to love book canon so I was wondering do you ships these pairs in the books or its something you saw from the show and just kept it?

hi anon! First of all I'm happy to hear you enjoy my content 🥰 it can be a bit lonely here because I don't interact with anyone but I love all houses & characters from asoiaf. So while the targaryens are my favorite I don't dislike anyone else and I don't mind answering anything as long as ppl aren't hostile or aggressive.

As for your question, I tried to like hotd and see it as a separate version but... so many things I've enjoyed from f&b got butchered, so it's hard. I've tried to make gifs and focused on something positive but I think I'll try to ignore the show for now.

As for the ships, I don't feel uncomfy with answering no worries. Yes, I do ship rhaegon, lucemond and many other rare pairs but no they didn't come from the show lol.

I know some ppl started seeing something for various of reasons (like dynamic, potential, chemistry, actors being pretty etc) but I sadly report I was one of the few losers who see even the tiniest of chance of hate/rivalry on a page and my mind goes 👀 etl??? 👀

So yeah, reading f&b many ships crossed my mind, lucemond & rhaegon being among them. And while I enjoy canon (and I know Daemon would probably plot a secret murder before he allowed Aegon 3 feet away from his niece) it's nice to bend canon and toy around with ideas y'know?

Of course I always do it based on the interpretation I have of these characters from the book, not from the show. But if there's one good thing the show did, was encouraging content creators to not be afraid of talking about non-canon pairs and I'm glad

It's so funny when former (because hating on them will not make you as popular with the average late teens/early 20s tumblerina as it used to do) anti-r.eylos make edits for some of the most Problematic, unhinged pairings ever (including incest and/or significant age gaps and/or H.annigram, V.illaneve etc. - which I'm not saying it's wrong, I enjoy these pairings too) while back in the day they clutched their pearls about the most vanilla etl Sad Murder Boi/Plucky Girl fictional couple (from a kids franchise... starring a guy who choked his heavily pregnant wife once, and also got redeemed 20 years later), claimed the fans were ~abuse apologists, failed feminists, bad and/or false queers/poc and other insane stuff, only because they didn't like an actor's face

what are your thoughts on ships like delena chair and spuffy? do you think tv shows ever get etl right when it comes to a love triangle ?

Delena--was into it as a kid, got progressively less into it as it became clear that they were boring, and also because I woke up one day and realized that he had a mullet

Chair--I was really into them in the beginning, but they just got progressively worse; what's the point if he stays horrible and she stays desperate but we're told that they're actually great? Either have them be awful people together and say they're awful or have him genuinely reform.

Spuffy--I was never into this ship, to me it totally took everything interesting away from Spike and I was much more into him with Drusilla

I'm not anti love triangle. I think they can be good. I actually really enjoyed the Derek, Addison, Meredith triangle on Grey's Anatomy. Even though, to me, the moral of the story was that Addison needed a worthy man and Meredith could not hold a candle to her and Addison was life, Addison was love, Addison was God, the drama was still good to watch. Like, season 2 of that show was GOOD SOAP SHIT. Addison's entrance? Iconic television history. Would kill for Addison Montgomery.

I actually really liked the triangle in Outlander because there was like, genuine nuance even if the fans wanted it to be straight up "Frank bad". The TV show did this better than the books, imo, and it's largely because everyone involved is a good actor, Tobias Menzies brought humanity to Frank, and he and Cait had great chemistry, if a very different chemistry from what Cait and Sam have. In the heyday of Outlander, Cait and Sam had this wildfire passion thing, and Tobias and Cait had this "old wounds scar but the love remains underneath" tension and resentment chemistry, and I'm into both of those things. The show also seemed to get that Frank was truly fucked in that situation--he didn't do anything, and his wife came back from a random magical occurrence in love with another man and carrying that man's child. Then he volunteered to raise the kid, she never fully gave him anything emotionally despite claiming she would, and by the time he realized that he was 100% in love with Brianna as a father and would never walk away from her. Neither choice was bad for Claire, but only one gave her the GREATER love.

Imo, daytime soaps perfect triangles because they can keep them going for literal decades, giving you equal helpings of both pairings. This means that they are more likely to invest in both options heavily. You will not know the true outcome of the triangle until the show is gone, the actors are dead, or the characters have left for good... and that last part is iffy because you can always recast. For example, you have the great Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle on Bold and the Beautiful. Will he be with the "slut from the Valley" (his mother's words, not mine, RIP Stephanie, I will mourn a bad bitch forever) or the educated, elegant psychiatrist turned whatever the fuck Taylor is doing now. I'm Team Taylor forever and always, but the show loves the "Brooke is a bad girl" angle... However, because a lot of viewers also responded to Taylor, she's gotten a lot of meaningful storylines with Ridge. Taylor had like, 2 or 3 kids with Ridge by the time Brooke finally had a Ridge child (Brooke had a kid with RIDGE'S DAD before she had a kid with Ridge.

I think this is also why you might get more fun with triangles with Kdramas and SOME telenovelas, for example--because the writers can respond to audience demand in real time, writing responsively. However, some writers also dig their heels in with conventions with these soapier shows. Deus Salve o Rei is one show where I saw so many people love the "bad girl" for the main guy, but the creator loved the good girl and just kept punishing the bad girl, so the love triangle never really soared.

Sidebar: not what I would call a huge triangle, but an excellent one, exists in an all time favorite show of mine, The Five Juanas/La Venganza de las Juanas, in which the guy falls in love with a woman, only for them to realize they're half siblings before they can actually fuck, and he comes back from a trip away with a new girlfriend, still very much in love with his sister, and the girlfriend catches him like, passionately kissing his sister OUTDOORS. His girlfriend later hooks up with his other sister, so it's fine.

Thank you for pointing how misandrist some anti ETL circles can be. The amount of apathy fans have for male characters in those pairings might as well be a competition for who can be the most unsympathetic.

It's also one of the reasons why their writing for male characters sucks arse. Which is an overall problem with many mainstream writers too, I have seen male writers dragged for writing female characters *gasp* with flaws! But when women write completely cardboard male characters that are there to be the punching bag of their female characters, they are hailed as Men Could Never Write This Good™. Please... They are bad writers too, you only praise them because they make your revenge fantasies on paper.

ETL fandoms start defending female characters from rival ships haters but somehow they also slowly translate that to hate the other half of the ship because their TERF brainwashed brains just eventually translates everything to: We hate men.

It's even more sad when writers of mainstream that didn't write like this let themselves be dragged by the screaming.

If I got paid every time I saw a WrightWorth blog with “pro shipper DNI” on the bio I’d be Mukesh Ambani.

My dudes, my guys… you can’t call yourselves anti-shippers while shipping ETL. It is literally part of your creed to declare all hero/villain ships as abusive. You literally believe that villainous characters do not deserve redemption at ANY cost.

Plus real life lawyers hate the pairing with good reason - conflict of interest. Prosecutor/defence attorney is highly frowned upon IRL, to the point where two lawyers with a history CANNOT take the same case. If such provisos exist, it means that relationships between the opposing counsel actually happened IRL with disastrous results.

And did we forget the entirety of Miles “demon prosecutor” career? He must have sent what, dozens of innocent people to jail? Did we forget he was willing to send Nick to the gallows for his perfect record at one point? Did we forget that Miles “choosing death” is an example of ghosting, which is abusive behaviour? Or how about Nick’s canon possessive streak, to the point where Gumworth shippers try to paint him as a yandere stalker for it? Or the fact that he became a lawyer for Miles, and essentially tracked him down?

I guarantee you the only reason why it doesn’t get through your thick skulls that this ship is everything you hate is because it’s two men. If this had been a het romance, you’d be up in arms over how abusive it is. Because women can never be anything but helpless victims, and men are always in power. When a WOMAN is in a love story, all you see is power dynamics and misogyny. But two men? That’s just harmless fun! After all, there are no gays IRL!

Either admit that your idea for what is “problematic” is tenuous at best, or stop calling yourself an anti. Because nobody is going to take you seriously if you scream about how Darklina is the root of all evil while shipping “Reylo but Gay.”

Hi longtime reader of your work (mostly SS) with your other works I saw that you ship Reylo and I was wondering what draws you in to that ship? After reading a smidge of your work with them I can honestly say I like them.

Buckle in, nonny, because this is gonna take a minute to answer 😅

Once upon a time (in January 2016), I went to see The Force Awakens. Before watching the movie, I ran across some anti-reylo sentiments floating around tumblr, and so I went in without positive expectations for the ship. But then I fell in love with the entire cast of characters, and I came out of the theater ecstatic. I was 1000% on the Stormpilot train from the start, but I resisted Reylo. I ended up seeing TFA in theaters FIVE TIMES which is *not* something I had ever done before. By viewing #2 I accepted that I was Star Wars trash… and by viewing #3 I accepted that I was Reylo trash lmao

There were a lot of things that drew me to Reylo initially (and most of them can be found in the interrogation scene).

1) Adam Driver’s FACE. I know that’s superficial but gotdamn the man is pretty, okay??

2) How fierce Rey is, even in her most vulnerable moments.

3) Conversely, how vulnerable Kylo is, even in his fiercest moments.

4) Rey and Kylo’s mutual loneliness. These are two people who deeply and intimately understand what it feels like to be alone, and they recognize that pain in one another—even though they really don’t want to… at first.

5) Enemies-to-lovers enemies-to-lovers enemies-to—you get the picture. I’m a simple creature who loves the ETL trope more than life. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6) The fact that this dangerous, volatile man with literally royal lineage is immediately so fucking SOFT for this nobody girl from a desert junkyard??

7) Rey and Kylo are equals in the Force, which is established pretty damn quickly, and you can tell that Kylo is garbage for her from the get-go. The way he looks at her? Like she’s the most enchanting thing he’s ever seen?? Just kill me.

8) I also really enjoyed that she thrashed him during their big fight on Starkiller base. I do love a villainous man paired with the powerful woman who can kick his ass lol

There’s more. So much more. But those are a few of the things that made me a Reylo after I saw TFA. The Last Jedi was practically Reylo The Movie so it obviously only deepened my love for the ship!

For the soulmate au I dont like the soulmate itself but the different ways it can be explored e.g. dark soulmates where they have been haunting each other before they met so they want to kill each other. Or supernatural connections where they are connected on an emotional/psychic level- but at the same time its inconvenient for them right now because they are on opposite sides of a war. Mostly because I find it hilarious. Writing this I realized I just like supernatural ETL with attempted murder

The one canon I can remember so far that is in line with my idea of soulmates seems to be Supernatural, even if they only touch upon the concept and refuse to delve deeper ¬¬ (classic spn): imposed by Heaven’s agenda, absolute horrifying idea (a while ago I had the thought -that’s inspired two wips now- of “what if Mary was a lesbian”, making the whole ordeal more terrifying/hit close to home to me oof).

I just despise the whole concept, period. @missbrunettebarbie had a post about anti-soulmate ships, pairs that were NOT supposed to happen, that go against the plan, that WOULDN’T have happened if you changed one single thing in their story because it was pure happenstance that they not only met, but fell in love... THOSE are my kind of romances.

It even reflects in my shipping habits, where I often develop an interest for ships that were NOT planned, those that make people complain that they “came out of nowhere” etc. AND in my own writing habits, because that description above fits the few original romances I have on my stories (there’s even a case of time travel where one character has a story with the future version of the protagonist, and she and the past version are completely uninterested in each other lol).
