Just read an article about a study concluding there was no link between the covid vaccine and changes in menstruation.
The metric they used was the number of people who went to the hospital because of heavy menstruation.
Now, I am not going to claim that this entire study was conducted by folks who have never menstruated, because I have no data on the study designers.
But I am going to strongly imply that anyone who thinks anything short of actually bleeding out would get a menstruating person to go to the hospital during an airborne pandemic, and when almost all concerns about menstruation UP TO AND INCLUDING "I BLEED INTO MY ABDOMINAL CAVITY EVERY MONTH" ARE SHRUGGED OFF BY THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY isn't listening to people who menstruate and probably shouldn't be publishing studies that will absolutely be used as the basis for future medical decisions.

I remember getting the gardasil vaccine when it came out. I was a sophomore in high school at that time. My mom was like, the antithesis of an antivaxx mom, she would basically hand the doctors our arms anytime they mentioned a new vaccine. And I remember that was the first time I really heard of the antivaxx movement. I remember this woman got popular pretending that it caused her uncontrollable shakes that prevented her from walking (sound familiar? who would’ve thought antivaxxers would be a one trick pony) and just fear mongering about mercury in the vaccine. I remember my high school BIOLOGY teacher (the class that also taught sex ed) went on this entire rant about the HORRORS of Gardasil. She was not ecstatic when I announced to the class I got the two shots with no side effects.
And bc the vaccine was mainly for teens and young adults (to hopefully vaccinate them before becoming sexually active-which will be explained in depth in a minute) and at the time it was only available for afab, and it was for a sexually transmitted virus, casual slut shaming surrounded it too. Which I’m sure prevented many parents from allowing doctors to vaccinate their kids bc “their child isn’t a whore”.
Cervical cancer has one known cause. HPV. Gardasil protects against the strains of HPV known to cause cervical cancer (there’s over a 100 strains but only few cause cancer). HPV is THE most common STI with around 80% of the population having had it at some point. There is also no actual test for HPV. If abnormal cells are present during a pap smear, HPV is considered the culprit. There is no test to speculate if you have HPV (at least that im aware of) if you do not have a cervix, unless you have one of the strains that could potentially cause genital warts. Which most don’t. It can also lie dormant for weeks to YEARS before it becomes active. So a partner could transfer it from a previous relationship to a new one, while remaining completely monogamous. Or be impossible to pinpoint if someone has had multiple partners over the course of years and had unprotected sex. Which is why it was pushed to teens and young adults before they had sex.
This means that there are no doubt people who have died or at least suffered unnecessarily, bc even tho there is a vaccine out there that would prevent against that very scenario, due to the misinformation (and in this specific case additional misogyny) of the antivaxx movement.
“Potential scientists” fuck offffffffffff. “potential scientists”, their “potential scientist” told a classroom full of teens, whom they trusted to be an educated source of scientific information, they should avoid a possible life saving vaccine based off dogshit.
Anyways. Sorry this is clearly a topic I’m passionate about. I also know a lot of people who’ve never heard of this vaccine. The information about HPV came directly from my gyno when abnormal cells were found in my pap smear and she nearly cried tears of joy finding out I received both shots. The vaccine is available to everyone now. It’s better late than never, so even being sexually active it’s still a good idea to get it. This also being the celibacy website, getting it BEFORE being sexually active is ideal. (Also in case i scared anyone about HPV, the reason so many people have had it is bc its generally a very mild virus and usually has no symptoms and the body normally fights it off on its own. It’s just those strains that can cause cancer, both of the cervix and throat, are the ones that are obviously a concern. Which getting vaccinated can prevent against)

There is so much medical misinformation on Tumblr that people take at face value and it's kind of fascinating but also really fucking bad
Off the top of my head?
- drugs; prescription, OTC or recreational can absolutely have an effect on your health. Dosages aren't suggestions and neither is stuff like "don't take with alcohol" or "don't operate heavy machinery"
-in addition to the last point, addiction is real and not something made up by your parents to keep you from doing weed in highschool. It can take different forms
- don't take other people's prescriptions. Again, with the dosage thing, expiration dates, and especially not antibiotics
-speaking of which, antibiotic resistant infections (ie. MRSA, ERSA) are caused by not finishing your prescription of antibiotics or taking antibiotics inappropriately (ie. When you have a viral infection) (and there are other issues too but these are probably the main ones that are most relevant to a layman) and are not caused by "antivaxxers" (seriously, I've seen this argument applied to the covid vaccine. A vaccine for a virus that no doctor would treat with antibiotics- not the mention that MRSA is literally referring to Staph Aureus)
-just because a disease is uncommon or "extinct" in your part of the world doesn't actually mean it is. Pathogens have animal and environmental reservoirs. Similarly, diseases that have been eradicated in your well developed and wealthy part of the world still kill people in places that aren't as wealthy and/or developed. The only diseases that are actually extinct are Smallpox and Rinderpest- and no, the parents who think vaccines cause autism aren't going to cause them to come back
-your weight, diet and lifestyle ABSOLUTELY affect your health.
-people on Tumblr seem to have some weird vendetta against doctors ordering blood work, but it's an absolutely valid and important screening and/or diagnostic test, and is helpful in monitoring many conditions
-Puberty, pregnancy and aging are natural processes that are not inherently harmful. Furthermore, people on Tumblr act as if pregnancy is the most dangerous thing in the world...while blaming the process itself and not the shitty, abusive and corrupt obstetrics community (or they point to history (and focus entirely on Europe) and act like issue is the process and not the ignorance towards germ theory, lack of or misunderstanding of hygiene, not understanding how women work, etc)
-hormones control a lot in your body and aren't just your sex hormones. They exist before you're even born and continue to exist after puberty ends.

Okay spoilers for ssp1 and ssp2 here, so if you haven’t read them both and want to avoid spoilers, keep scrolling (and also blacklist the tags if you want to save yourself spoiler pain in the future!)
It’s fascinating to me how obviously these books were written in a global pandemic. Like, obviously we knew that, but I’m so interested in the way that influence is showing up in the books.
In Tress of the Emerald Sea, we start the story with a girl who Does Not Leave Home, under order of the government. Breathing the air outside of her home is Definitely Fatal, and there are many variations on the Very Fatal Things you could inhale. People wear masks to protect themselves, but it’s hardly exact protection. You’ve even got people with a long-term version of the spores living under their skin until they die, in the form of the aethers. Tress is a pandemic novel, where the spores are covid, and someone is risking exposure for the sake of someone they love.
The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook For Surviving Medieval England is a mouthful of a title. BUT it also has some really interesting influences too! Right at the start of the book, we learn that the main character is a cop- and we learn it in the most copaganda series of sentences I think I’ve ever read. Then later, we learn he is not a cop, but his friend is, and that friend is subsequently portrayed as Absolutely Perfect Person Arbiter Of Justice. Then later, we see that the cop-friend is just a bastard in so many ways. Through Ulric and the whole idea of buying dimensions, we see capitalism ruthlessly profiting off of people who have no say, usually making their lives actively worse for money or entertainment. We see medical tech that can protect you from terrible diseases, and we get hints of people who refuse to use it.
To me, ssp2 (NOT typing that title again) shows so much of what was happening culturally during lockdown. ACAB, with a bastard cop character throwing locals and “losers” in harm’s way, when the other characters want so desperately to believe that there is someone doing actual justice in a fucked up world. Vaccines, and antivaxxers. Killing entire dimensions of people who don’t have a say for the sake of a profit SURE SMELLS LIKE THE WAY ESSENTIAL WORKERS WERE TREATED.
Idk, I just think that it’s very fascinating to see the way that the pandemic is so present in these novels if you scratch even a little bit beneath the surface

"The Giggle"
You know it's been a while since I've gone truly absolutely batshit over a Doctor Who episode, but here we are. Spoilers, obviously, under the cut.
Tumblr media
First of all: UNIT
Tumblr media
While I'm not a huge fan of The Doctor working for/with Earth-based Space police, I think it's a great idea to have the companions in a safe environment where they have a place to use all of the knowledge they've gathered during their journey throughout the starts. They get paid to continue doing what they love and while it does set things up to have future (LIVING) companions to make little cameos (or even an option for a spin-off series, I think that it's ultimately a good choice that RTD decided to let the companions have a space where they can live, grow, and continue to help.
Tumblr media
One problem I have with this is that this is exactly where Martha and Mickey went at the end of 10's run -- and yet absolutely 0 (zero) mention of them or their whereabouts. They're the OG companions joining UNIT, so where TF are they??
Tumblr media
Also this guy?? The Vlinx?? I both love and hated that we didn't get much explanation for this Guy in the Chair. Just "Oh you're helping?! Sure! Absolutely no reason to think that this new alien and the weird thing that's happening are related ANYWAYS--"
A bit like Panda from JJK where it's just "yeah and this is Vlinx, it works here, moving on,"
Tumblr media
LOVE the jab about antivaxxers using the narrative of the Zeedex. It DOES help, but since you're asking the masses (who all wholeheartedly believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong) to put this on, it becomes a bit harder -- we saw how Kate reacted the moment she willfully put it on. Also return of our #Queen for her role as the News Anchor. Glad she has a name now.
Tumblr media
Secondly: Donna <3 my absolute beloved. She has grown so fucking much. From yelling at the world because that's the only way to be heard to quietly asking The Doctor what is wrong. She has grown into her own woman, though of course still missing a lot of main action before the metacrisis was resolved (I could write a whole other deep dive about that episode too). When she noticed that the laughter was notes -- "The Giggle" hiding behind the screen, I was so proud of her. This is why the Doctor needs an "every day" human -- and Donna is so blunt that she won't hold back on her observations, though I have to wonder if the whole recorder conversation with Rose was how she came out. I hope so, that's just so chaotic.
I've seen some people argue that there is still some TimeLord in her because of how smart she's been in these last few episodes.
To that I say
"bitch, do you not remember the bees disappearing???"
Tumblr media
Donna Noble is a genius and an idiot. Both can exist in the same person, in the same character, and that's exactly what they proved with the previous episode.
and SPEAKING OF her being a genius
She loves The Doctor, not romantically, but in a "platonic soulmate" kind of way that makes my heart full. When she realized that The Doctor never mentioned Mel or any of their adventures, she pointed it out. Not only that, she told The Doctor point-blank that there's always something that the Time Lord seems to be running from. There's never really been a moment when he's stopped and talked about any of the shit that he's been through and she can tell that it's starting to wear on him.
"Maybe that's why your old face came back. You're wearing yourself out"
and he immediately changes the subject and charges forward despite her telling him a harsh truth. She's travelling with him again, sure, but it was supposed to be some short little trip and I think the main reason she went with him in the first place (whether or not she will admit it) is because she saw her friend in crisis and wanted to be around to help -- to figure out what exactly he needed from her. With each episode, she's tried to guess why his old face came back, but nothing stuck.
Tumblr media
The fucking puppet show.
Now, I feel like this is a great way to catch up new fans with any old Doctor trauma that they may have missed. It was also a way to shove it into The Doctor's face just how many of his loved ones that he was responsible for killing.
Now, before I hear any one say "but what about ______??"
Rory wasn't as close to The Doctor as Amy had been. "The first face this face saw" and while they did become closer later on, he would always have a special place in his heart for Amy. He watched her die for fucks sake.
Martha wasn't mentioned because as far as he knows, she's still alive and kicking ass. That's part of the reason he will up and abandon certain companions, so he doesn't get them hurt.
The Fam - left behind and alive. Remember 2/3 of the original Fam chose to step away from the TARDIS and Yaz was left before 13 could regenerate as she "needed to do this on [her] own". While, yes, I'm sure the Doctor feels guilty about leaving them behind, it's not nearly as bad as getting them killed.
Anyone else had either survived as far as The Doctor was aware, or hadn't been as close as those particular companions. That is why those 3 were chosen.
Now, back to the puppet show
Mentioning not only the lost companions but also the Flux
Tumblr media
God I do not have the time to go into this half-assed recreation of a tragedy trying to be as big and bad as the Time War and Gallifrey. I feel like Chris Chibnall felt snubbed with a female presenting Doctor and gave us the most half-written mediocre bull shit he could have. RTD is already having to fix it with mentioning it several times and exactly what happened in the aftermath. Just looking up "Doctor Who Flux" you get so many results that all try to "explain" it.
If your audience has to look up how your writing makes sense, you aren't smarter or cleverer than the masses, it's just shit writing.
However,
Tumblr media
While the actual Flux episodes and following regeneration made it hard to understand not only what happened, RTD breaks it down.
There was a terrible decision to be made. The universe was dying. The Doctor had to choose and a lot of deaths now lay on the Time Lord's shoulders.
BUT! That was also the only piece of The Doctor's trauma that couldn't be waved away with
Tumblr media
Which is when The Doctor challenged the Toymaker to a game.
Back too 2023, we get...quite honestly one of the best scenes I've seen in New Who, only rivalled by Here Come the Drums with the Master dancing along. No, Rasputin doesn't come close to this cunty rendition of Spice Up Your Life.
Tumblr media
Amazing, cunty, terrifying, entertianing, and fun.
"I think they're still falling" -- BITCH?!?!?! Ugh. I want more of the Toymaker. What a fun villain and Neil Patrick Harris knocked it out of the goddamn park. No matter what you thought about this episode, this dance routine was a highlight.
I also love the reference to when The Doctor had tried to reason with The Master, asking to go amongst the stars with fun filled adventures, taking on the burden of being their jailer and caretaker for the rest of eternity if it meant that humanity was safe.
Tumblr media
Of course, we all know what comes after the Toymaker refuses the call to the stars.
I immediately started crying. Before The Doctor even started with those last words, I wasn't ready to say goodbye. We went from "I don't want to go" to "allons-y". From him dying alone in his TARDIS to being immediately surrounded by loved ones
"He's not dying alone"
And he didn't have to.
Tumblr media
I choked on my crying so hard I almost died myself. I know David Tennant had always said that he thought The Doctor was asexual to some degree, but this is just ridiculous. /pos
But, when you consider the salt line at the edge of the universe and how that myth became a reality because of The Doctor's actions -- the fact that bigeneration was once a myth and now a reality suddenly opens up a whole door of possibilities for this upcoming season with Ncuti Gawa.
Now, The Doctor(s)
Tumblr media
14 was consistently surprised in their actions, their off-the-hand comments. Something that 10 always struggled with was saying how much people meant to them.
Tumblr media
And one thing about 14, they are filled with love. They openly say "I love ____" whereas 10 never did.
Tumblr media
"Rose Tyler, I--"
Having to leave those he loved behind, never wanting to admit when he cared more than he did. As long as he spun and ran away from his feelings, they could never catch up to him. Right?
Tumblr media
14 is different, always saying "I'm here", "You're okay" and slinging around the word "love" as if they would never grow tired of it. 14, obviously, is The Doctor after Amy, Clara, Billie, and the Fam. After avoiding a family with the Ponds, losing Clara after realizing they were toxic for her, a friend who never expected anything more from them, and Yaz's fam who only wanted to be a safe space for them to be able to turn to. Yaz, the last companion that was pushed away by The Doctor, had loved them and told them so and gotten nothing in return.
Tumblr media
And there were so many different ways that 14 showed this love. So many hugs!! So many reassurances!! And so much love that The Doctor was sharing amongst everyone who could hear them -- and yet not a drop of that love or compassion showed inwards.
Tumblr media
I am so emotional about this hug, it's not even funny. Literally healing their younger self. The love, the understanding, the "I'm here" -- finally someone who understands literally everything 14 has gone through. The acceptance of the hug (THE TUCK INTO THE NECK?!?!?FSKFBWILDNLADN) I fell to my knees!!!!! SOBBING!!!!!!!!
BUT!!! Not only is 15 born on the battlefield, but also born surrounded by love and fun. Pants or not, 15 is ready to save the world and make it a good time for those around them. Self assured, fun, smiling, and loving-- 15 jumps into the world with a confused hug and love for their past & current self. After years of therapy, I keep hearing some of the same phrases along the lines of "you have to look to your past/younger self and let them know that it's okay, that they shouldn't have had to go through all of that alone" and this was exactly that, only on a Time Lord scale.
Tumblr media
Now, personally, I had fun watching the game of catch with the Toymaker after 15 was introduced. I thought it was a fun way to share the spotlight with Gawa as the 15th Doctor and let the audience know some hints as to what we have to look forward to.
Tumblr media
The terms of endearment melted my little heart. I'm always a sucker for a good nickname, both in real life and in fiction and 15 was full of them.
"Honey, sweetie, pumpkin pie, you are too traumatized to be flying the TARDIS right now, get OUT and take a NAP"
Tumblr media
That was basically what was said, right?
Tumblr media
And then this...home. The Doctor having a family. This is quite honestly the perfect, happiest ending that The Doctor wearing this particular face could have had. All those years running away, fighting hard, and keeping on a strong face, and this is what that was for. All that running and avoiding, and love for everyone else but themself and now they finally can take a break and focus on taking time to say "what the hell". Maybe go to therapy. There's so much fic potential for this as well, the kinds of companions they could run into casually or little every day struggles that are literally alien to them.
I've seen a lot of posts upset that this plot point seemed to be circling around two points: 1) this a repeat of the metacrisis ending and 2) not the first time The Doctor had domestic bliss.
Tumblr media
To that, I say:
the metacrisis Doctor was half human and would be able to grow old with Rose in that parallel universe. It was also the traumatic ending of the DoctorDonna (or so we thought) and on that beach, the Doctor, the Time Lord Doctor, still couldn't say how much Rose meant to him. He also said that living life, day after day, was the one thing that he could never have.
2. On Tranzalore, The Doctor was not resting. He was taking care of the tear in the universe and defending it from the monsters that would constantly be on the attack. Every day was a fight. And when he spent those 24 years with River Song, he knew that this was the last time they would meet before her end. How can you relax when you know that these are the last moments you're going to have with your loved one. You watched them die and this is the best that you can do with them in their last days, knowing that you can't stop death from coming.
Tumblr media
And there is something so incredibly healing about The Doctor allowing themselves to stay here, with only occasional trips to the Moon with their favorite niece. and the possibility of them perhaps becoming a Curator -- who knows!!
Tumblr media
And now we have Ncuti Gawa's 15th Doctor to look forward to and all of time and space!! I am so incredibly excited to see where this takes us on Christmas.

(TW antivax bullshit)
I can’t send images on anon but I just saw “transantivax”
They’ve got to be fucking joking, right?
My mom is antivax and I’m now scrambling to get vaccinated so I can go to college. And that’s relatively tame. People fucking die because of antivaxxers.
It’s not something they should be taking so lightly. They said that transitioning is not recommended, yet they said the term was also for people who “want to transition into being antivax.”
Fuck off. This isn’t a game. People are dying.
(None of this is directed at you, just wanted to make it clear)
99.9% of prats have never been in a life-or-death situation in their lives. They see antivaxxers and think it’s funny to be one. They see nazis and think it’d make a cool outfit. They cannot comprehend how truly insensitive they are.

Tbh having watched GamerGate happen, and watching the regressive purity politics that used queer fandom to proliferate in allegedly progressive spaces spill out into mainstream leftist discourse and push the Overton window to where it's socially acceptable again for right-wingers to say "yeah all the gays are pedos, even they admit they have a problem, see!" on a mainstream national stage, and watching small but noticeable sections of the people resisting that trend in fandom spaces fall into parroting the same "free speech" talking points about blatant racist hate speech as any MAGAt asshole, and watching blatant lies about queer history and subtly xenophobic anti-intellectual takes about media literacy proliferate on TikTok amidst the surge of right-wing anti-intellectualism giving us a plague of antivaxxers and QAnon and the like, and watching some people resisting THAT fall into some of the same neophobic generation war victim-blaming bullshit that nobody likes and every teenager SWEARS they won't repeat-
Or, in short, as a witness to the concept of how the internet can be used to start or fuel regressive movements by use of small, niche communities, especially ones based on having fun with a shared interest, as a seemingly low-stakes venue that's easy to turn into an echo chamber-
I'm coming to believe that the most effective way to stay up to speed with the world, and particularly to stay ahead of potential dangerous regressive movements, is to be Online Enough to be familiar with the drama of ~1-3 tiny niche subcultures, but offline enough to recognize what of that drama is ACTUALLY based on real-world Issues and thus at risk of breaching containment vs. what just SOUNDS like it's super serious if you're Too Online
This also means never writing off "niche subculture drama" that's blatantly about real-world bigotry as a frivolous nonissue no matter HOW small or weird or inconsequential that community may seem to outsiders
Of course, you have to be careful if you're an outsider lest you be used to help an outbreak of bigotry breach containment - this is why it's important to be Offline Enough, to know enough real-world history, to know the difference between a real issue and a serious-sounding justification for petty drama or petty drama as a vehicle to wrap reactionary sentiments in progressive language - but don't immediately write off concerns of real-world bigotry as "just stupid drama going down in a circle of weirdos lol" because...if it's based in real-world bigotry, it might not be just stupid niche drama for long
Tl;dr: balance touching grass with having your Opinions on That One Fucking Clout-Chasing Assclown who published a good tutorial on model train detailing or wrote a fan theory that came true or published some nice knitting patterns or drew some pretty pictures and thinks that qualifies them to be a general thought leader, and you might be able to predict dangerous political trends even better than a professional analyst - and for some of you out here on tumblr that could save your life

THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE: THE MUSICAL.
Due to recent incidents, this page is now 17+. If you are under 17, interact via anon only.
Hello! I'm Shadow! I'm not entirely new to hockeyblr; I originally posted hockey on my main. However I decided to create this blog to separate my hockey talk from my non-hockey talk. Boundaries and other stuff under the cut.
ABOUT ME: I'm 17, queer, autistic (with ADHD in the mix) and I've been a Blues fan all my life. I also support the Washington Capitals, and I've been considering adopting the Kraken as a third team. Outside the NHL, I support the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL. As for players, I like Vladimir Tarasenko, TJ Oshie, Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar, Artemi Panarin and to an extent Cole Caufield. I also support generally more disliked players such as Tom Wilson. Brad Marchand has also grown on me a little. Additionally, I do want to share that I do support and *will* post about some incredibly controversial players, those players being Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane. The reason I'm sharing this is because there is one thing I want to make very clear: While I support a player on the ice, I don't exactly support a player off the ice. In fact, there may be times I will openly criticize a player's actions, even if they are my favorite. So, if seeing any of the players mentioned above makes you VERY uncomfortable, filter out the players' names (see also: tagging system) or block me for your own comfort. (Additionally, if you're curious on where I stand on Kane's 2015/16 cases, I won't get into that entirely, as it's a pretty messy subject and I don't think I could do it justice, however I'll direct you to read these posts from other users so you can try to guess how I feel). (Archived version of link one, archived version of link two. The images on link two are broken for some reason so go here and here in case you wanna save them). BOUNDARIES: Firstly, this blog is run by a minor, and this blog is strictly SFW unless stated otherwise (injuries, blood and excessive swearing will be tagged accordingly). Please don't reblog my posts to add NSFW stuff. Additionally, this is not an RPF blog. While I allow RPF accounts to interact, I do not want my posts being tagged as "ship" or any rpf tags. Lastly, don't send me gossip. This is not a gossip page. What your favorite player does in their private life is really none of my business and honestly I am better off not knowing. There's plenty of other blogs for that. Who can interact? I get it. DNIs are annoying. But the reason I set one is because there's just some people I don't feel comfortable interacting with me, and I want to make that clear. However, as for who can interact, let's just say that I welcome all hockey fans, any team, any kind. Casual, diehard, hell even bandwagon fans can interact! I don't judge! I would be happy to see other Blues and Caps fans interact, especially since I don't see many of them on hockeyblr. Fans of rival teams are also not only welcome, but fucking encouraged to interact! I don't bite at all unless you'd like /platonic. I also want to meet some artists (SFW please!) and other creators. Hockeyblr could use some creativity here! So, who's not welcome? Well, besides the usual criteria (bigots, antivaxxers and pedo/incest fetishizers), I do not welcome gatekeepers, gossip blogs or confession blogs. I also don't want strictly NSFW pages to interact, and I also advise blocking me if you don't want minors interacting at all (Remember: DNIs go BOTH ways!). Additionally, if you think cheering for a specific team makes you a shitty person, or likewise, you think your team isn't immune to criticism, get off my page. Part of changing hockey culture involves criticizing your own team and favorite players too.
Discourse blogs are also advised to not interact unless I already know you, since discourse makes me fucking uncomfortable a lot of the time. Lastly, accounts with no pfp/bio/header or accounts with a pfp of a (usually) white woman and nothing else will be blocked since half the time I'll assume you're a bot. No exceptions. Having posts or a cool username is no longer an excuse. Additionally, blogs with the "mature content" tag will also be blocked since half the time I'll assume you're NSFW. Sorry yall. TAGGING SYSTEM *actually im getting rid of my original tagging system because i hate it lol* Depending on how you feel about certain players, I advise filtering the following player tags because I post about them/will post about them a lot (more to be added): #vladimir tarasenko #patrick kane #tj oshie #alex ovechkin #tom wilson #jordan kyrou And, again, depending on how you feel about certain teams, here's some team names and team lbs you might wanna filter: #blues lb #caps lb #st louis blues #washington capitals #chicago blackhawks #new york rangers #pittsburgh penguins #vegas golden knights I do not tag my posts as "tw (player/team name)", nor will I censor players name's or team names l*ke t4is (like this), here's why. Some other tags you might want to filter include: #eye contact (heavily advise filtering this if you have scopophobia). #long post #fan culture #hockey culture #bigotry #slander or #trash talk (if you don't like seeing your players/team get slandered). #not hockey (for non-hockey based talk) OTHER BLOGS:
@demonic-shadowlucifer - Main, and the blog I follow/like from. @thecringepunkarchives - Disability and more. @thatonedemonnamedlucifer - General fandom blog

Thoughts on Gender Critical: recruitment video by Cealan Conrad
I definitely support the way they did the research because it's how I would do it.
Here the link. Please don't go and harass them. All of these points are about GC facebook groups and they seem to be as much of a conservative cesspool as GC twitter is.
1. I think using "dog whistle" outside of the context of white nationalism/racism is disingenuous.
2. Radical feminism is trans exclusive but not necessarily anti-trans, and the same could be said about not believing that gender is innate: in itself this belief doesn't negate the idea that some people are GNC, that someone might feel at discomfort with their body and such.
3. Stop saying queer FFS (just annoying)
4. I agree that going to GC groups asking for advice on a trans child isn't probably the way to go.
5. Yes, they have a point on homophobia not being called out.(But I have 0 experience with "gender critical" groups on FB)
6. The antivaxxers using radical feminism to justify being an antivax are so fucking weird to me. "There is little difference between a penis and a needle if it's against our will" it's a fucking offensive phrase that I can't wrap my head around it.
7. Fucking hell that group is full of nutcases (relating to transhumanism conspiracy theories).
8. I probably said it before and I'm going to say it again: yes, going after people for their appearance is shitty. Yes I also agree that these are hatred based circlejerk.
[25 min in] - Recruitment Techniques
9. I don't think that being gender critical is a cult, I don't believe being trans is a cult and I think we should stop using words like that to describe a group with unpopular opinions.
10. They are talking about how cults work. And okay, I know, but still doesn't apply to the situation presented.
11. I know it can be seen as performative from my side because I'm white too, but I also dislike the comparison to white supremacists - the threat a bunch of people pose posting in a closed group is very different from people that have access to guns and police. Women don't have that kind of power on trans people.
12. I had no idea people were monetising off gender critical stuff like that btw o.o
13. Regarding the parents: of course they are scared! If I told my mom I suddenly want something so out of character for me that's extremely expensive and risky why wouldn't she be worried?
14. [they show few podcasts etc recommendations featuring mostly conservative men]. Yes, I've noticed that too.
15. The comments by GCs over the TIF 11yo thinking they want to kill themselves are legitimately awful and dangerous. Calling a 11yo a narcissist is stupid.
[1h in]
16. "TERF doesn't describe them anymore?" And when it did? A radical feminist wouldn't cite a conservative man as a source, would she?
17. We're both bisexual Cealean, and as bisexuals we don't have the right to police lesbians and gay men when they say that they are attracted by sex. It doesn't matter to us, but it matters to them and we should respect that.
18. The disgust and dehumanisation part is very interesting!
19. And they are right about the taking pictures of others and mocking them. It's disgusting and creepy behaviour.
20. Yup, they are right when they say that people consume shit just for the sake of fueling a prejudice. This is something that on radblr happens less because no one likes the sites that do, fortunately.
21. Yeah, Posie Parker is not a friend.
22. I also agree with his talk about transphobia because well, it's the definition.
___
Overall I think their criticism is fair enough, and I think we should do better in kicking conservatives out of radical feminist spaces. I also think that people who do nothing but mock trans women online are useless to the movement overall. These are real and fair complaints I agree with.
Also, they got called a TERF for making this long series of videos explaining why gender critical is bad which is ridiculous. I absolutely disagree with a lot of the things said in the video but this clearly is not good faith criticism. And they have a problem with performativity too - "the moment they have to put in a ounce of labour they back off" it's so real.
I don't think I will watch the rest of the series. I'm considering maybe writing them an email and go over some of my points, but it would require more work I'm willing to put up with.

I get the algorithm on TikTok is fucking wild. So I don’t know if everyone is seeing the same shit. But I feel like there’s an uptick of “crunchy mom” content. Like not just antivaxx but also anti yearly visits to the doctors. Something that’s always interesting is they love to co-opt loosely leftist language and be reactionary as hell. Like they’ll talk about how evil plarmicuetal companies are for profiting off sickness. But you’ll never see say that about price gauging insulin or other life saving shit. It’s not surprising considering their hyper-individualist ideology. And they conflate health with morality. Thus can not accept that certain health shit can be completely out of your control. I don’t know where I was really going with but it’s always interesting to see. And by interesting I mean extremely infuriating.

Recreational drugs? ☕
Suppose that you sample an American* off the street. If they have no issue with recreational drugs, rinse and repeat until you get one that does.
I think it is likely the real objection is not going to come from a place of knowing a person whose lives were disrupted by addiction. Or from any more general medical claim about the harms done by using recreational drugs. I think it is more likely to arise from a place of believing that "drugs are bad", full stop.
*picking on Americans because I am one and my cultural knowledge is mostly from being one, so I can't necessarily generalize safely to other cultures.
This predisposes me not to trust anti-drug rhetoric very much. Compounded with evidence that the War On Drugs was highly politically and racially motivated, and this means that I kind of have to start over re: judging what to think of drugs. Look at the whole thing with as new of eyes as I can arrange to have.
I think that drug policy isn't really a place where I'd be qualified to have a detailed opinion but: I don't appreciate precedents that say that society should dictate how I operate my flesh-prison. I've been given a body to pilot around for a disgustingly brief period of time, and now you want to make my control of that body be a qualified matter? Fuck off, buddy.
That said, there are places where this first-order intuition has challenges.
1. Vaccines are a really topical example where I think the right to absolute autonomy over your body has a challenge, namely: your refusal to bolster your immune system is decreasing our collective ability to fight off diseases. Your autonomy over your body in this case is harming other people and their miserably tiny fraction of a proper lifespan they're afforded. That said, I feel like the knee-jerk reaction to a lot of antivaxxers is not "these people are compromising the public good by an ill-informed choice, boo that" but instead is often "these fucking people, outgroup hate and gosh aren't they all ignorant"? I have walked away from more than a few conversations with relatives that started with reasonable kvetching about how the pandemic has stretched on due to the selfish behavior of antivaxxers, before immediately turning into thinly-veiled class-motivated sneering.
2. Second-hand smoke. If you're smoking in the vicinity of people who don't have a lot of say in whether or not they also would like to inhale burnt tobacco, cannabis etc, this seems to be a similar case of "your decision to put this substance in your body is affecting other people's choices about what they can put in theirs". IMHO the fact that people conclude "therefore, no indoor smoking" is actually probably right but also is premature and is again motivated by the fact that we have somehow decided collectively that smokers deserve to suffer. Less relevantly, there are more than a few occasions where I have had a very brutal headache, walked by someone smoking a cigarette, and longed to remain nearby because the vasodilation provided near instant fucking relief. I chose not to because I think that the long-term detriments outweigh that relief, but dammit, it's my choice and I'm not a better person because of it.
TL;DR there are quite a few cases where I end up aligning with policies that oppose absolute personal autonomy, but I kind of hate it and usually am not a big fan of the people who I'm supporting these policies alongside.

This post has been circling around Twitter and I just want to share my thoughts on it in a longer form rant addressing each of their points with ideas for world building of how that could work in a high fantasy setting.
Tumblr media
First off, their beginning statement is just wrong. There are lots of reasons to have a disabled person within a fantasy setting. To say otherwise is (1) ablest and (2) very poor world building. Then again, their definition of high fantasy seems to be limited to one where magic is easily accessible and basically limitless, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just not creative rather than ablest.
In world building terms this boils down to a few different factors. First, can magic do the thing. Second, does the person have access to the magic. Third, do they want the magic to be used. Basically physical, economical, cultural. Every fantasy world will have limits on its magic or rules about how it works. For example, if you cut off a limb and use healing magic on the wound, does the limb grow back or just heal over? If its the latter, congrats you have a disabled fantasy character. See how easy that was? Time can also be a factor here, maybe magic can heal an injury that just happened but once the body heals on its own that's now the baseline for where magic can heal them to. The economic factor ties into this as well. Most the time in fantasy not everyone is able to do any type of magic. Sometimes its bloodlines, sometimes its taught, sometimes its random, but regardless there will likely be people rural enough that there is no healer nearby or if its rare enough then working class will simply be unable to afford it. The cultural aspect is if people can heal the injury and are available to do it, does the injured person want to be healed. Maybe they don't trust magic, antivaxx-esque, or come from a culture of warriors who believe in keeping their battle scars as sources of pride.
Broken bones are an injury that if properly treated will heal naturally. In my own world Blades of Treason this would be treated with minor healing potions to ease pain and accelerate the healing, but there will still be a period of healing. Basically injuries that will heal on their own may not need or be worth using the world's healing magic on. In the meantime, the person will still need some sort of mobility device, even if its not a permanent necessity.
Paralysis is a bit more complicated medically and how this comes into the effectiveness of magic will vary based on the source of the paralysis. Maybe if it was an acquired illness or injury that caused paralysis it can be healed, but a genetic cause cannot. Maybe like in point 1, if it can heal on its own magic will help, but if it will never heal on its own magic won't bypass that. There are also the economic and social aspects I already touched on above. And this is me just spit-balling here, there are so many reasons someone may still be disabled in a fantasy universe.
Controlling a flight spell and casting a fireball at your enemies may be difficult or even impossible depending on the magic system. If a spell requires concentration to be used than multitasking is just infeasible. I do really like the idea of a mage who can't walk using a flight spell to move themselves around in everyday scenarios while needing a wheelchair if too tired to spell cast or in combat situations to concentrate on other spells.
This is the only (partially) reasonable critique this person gives. Accessibility devices should probably look like they were made with the technology of the rest of the fantasy world. A dwarven tech based wheelchair can be possible in your setting and is sick as fuck. Historically, canes and crutches are relatively easy to craft from branches and wheels aren't exactly a new invention either. Having a cart pushed or carried by others or pulled by animals is also a very low tech solution. Mobility aids are not a modern invention and were certainly possible to make if they don't look quite the same as we are used to today. Animal with saddle attached is also an option, although it would require a specialized saddle (I believe Bran had something like this in Game of Thrones, but I've only seen clips of the show so don't come at me if I'm off). Still possible and setting appropriate though.
It is impossible to tell a story without conflict. The type of conflict can vary but there must be some level of stakes. They only way I can see the type of world they suggest working within a story is a more slice of life comedy style story where life or death stakes rarely, if ever, come into play. If you're going for a more serious story line, unlimited healing is a detriment rather than an asset. Magic does not have to be extremely rare or dangerous in order for disabled characters to exist. With a little bit of creativity (y'know, like what fantasy is based on) there are literally infinite ways you can explain having disabled characters while still having an extensive magic system. And all that I've written is about how non-magic disabilities interact with magic, I haven't even touched on how magic caused disabilities may interact with other magic.

you know what else is SUPER irritating
we’ve all lost so much fucking time and opportunity
i’ve lost a lot of friendship time because i can’t hang out with them bc of my parents and my pregnant sister. which makes me feel a lOT of guilt, okay. especially because i fell off the face of the earth for at least two years because of mental health issues.
and i know it’s selfish but i lost a lOT of potential time with my sister before she started family planning.
don’t get me wrong. i LOVE my niece SO much.
but lbr. it’s not like i get to spend as much free time with my sibs now that she’s here.
so i lost a lot of family time. which if you know me - i’m SUPER close to my sibs.
so there’s that.
i also then lost a lot of time with my sister to be there for her during her pregnancy. yes, i was there - but not as much as i would have liked
and now i continue to lose time from my sister bc of scares, and because of the wait time now.
AND now i lose time from mY BABY NIECE.
WHO IS LITERALLY CHANGING EVERY DAY, AND LEARNING THINGS
SHE NOW CAN BE AIRPLANED.
I AM MISSING BABY NIECE AIRLINES TIME, WHERE I GET LIFETIME TICKETS
so fuck antivaxxers.
