I need people to understand how S&P (standards and practices) works in television and how much influence they have over what gets to stay IN an episode of a show and how the big time network execs are the ones holding the purse strings and making final decisions on a show's content, not the writers / showrunners / creatives involved.

So many creators have shared S&P notes over the years of the wild and nonsensical things networks wanted them to omit / change / forbid. Most famously on tumblr, I've seen it so many times, is the notes from Gravity Falls. But here's a post compiling a bunch of particularly bad ones from various networks too. Do you see the things they're asking to be changed / cut ?

Now imagine, anything you want to get into your show and actually air has to get through S&P and the network execs. A lot of creators have had to resort to underhanded methods. A lot of creators have had to relegate things to subtext and innuendo and scenes that are "open to interpretation" instead of explicit in meaning. Things have had to be coded and symbolized. And they're relying on their audience to be good readers, good at media literacy, to notice and get it. This stuff isn't the ramblings of conspiracy theorists, it's the true practices creatives have had to use to be able to tell diverse stories for ages. The Hays Code is pretty well known, it exists because of censorship. It was a way to symbolize certain things and get past censors.

Queercoding, in particular, has been used for ages in both visual media and literature do signal to queer audiences that yes, this character is one of us, but no, we can't be explicit about it because TPTB won't allow it. It's a wink-wink, nudge-nudge to those in the know. It's the deliberate use of certain queer imagery / clothing / mannerisms / phrases / references to other queer media / subtle glances and lingering touches. Things that offer plausible deniability and can be explained away or go unnoticed by straight audiences to get past those network censors. But that queer viewers WILL (hopefully) pick up on.

Because, unfortunately, still to this day, a lot of antiquated network execs don't think queer narratives are profitable. They don't think they'll appeal to general audiences, because that's what matters, whatever appeals to most of the audience demographic so they can keep watching and keep making the network more money. The networks don't care about telling good stories! Most of them are old white cishet business men, not creatives. They don't care about character arcs and what will make fans happy. They don't care about storytelling. What they care about is profit and they're basing their ideas of what's profitable on what they believe is the predominate target demographic, usually white cis heterosexual audiences.

So, imagine a show that started airing in the early 2000s. Imagine a show where the two main characters are based on two characters from a famous Beat Generation novel, where one of the characters is queer! based on a real like bisexual man! The creator is aware of this, most definitely. And sure, it's 2005, there's no way they were thinking of making that explicit about Dean in the text because it just wouldn't fly back then to have a main character be queer. But! it's made subtext. And there are nods to that queerness placed in the text. Things that are open to interpretation. Things that are drenched in metaphor (looking at you 1x06 Skin "I know I'm a freak" "maybe this thing was born human but was different...hated. Until he learned to become someone else.") Things that are blink-and-you-miss-it and left to plausible deniability (things like seemingly spending an hour in the men's bathroom, or always reacting a little vulnerable and awkward when you're clocked instead of laughing it off and making a homophobic joke abt it)

And then, years later there's a ship! It's popular and at first the writers aren't really seriously thinking about it but they'll throw the fans a bone here and there. Then, some writers do get on the destiel train and start actively writing scenes for them that are suggestive. And only a fraction of what they write actually makes it into the text. So many lines left on the cutting room floor: i love past you. i forgive you i love you. i lost cas and it damn near broke me. spread cas's ashes alone. of course i wanted you to stay. if cas were here. -- etc. Everything cut was not cut by the writers! Why would a writer write something to then sabotage their own story and cut it? No, these are things that didn't make it past the network. Somewhere a note was made maybe "too gay" or "don't feed the shippers" or simply "no destiel."

So, "no destiel." That's pretty clearly the message we got from the CW for years. "No destiel. Destiel will alienate our general audience. Two of our main characters being queer? And in a relationship? No way." So what can the pro-destiel creatives involved do, if the network is saying no? What can the writers do if most of their explicit destiel (or queer dean) lines / moments are getting cut? Relegate things to subtext. Make jokes that straight people can wave off but queer people can read into. Make costuming and set design choices that the hardcore fans who are already looking will notice while the general audience and the out-of-touch network execs won't blink and eye at (I'm looking at you Jerry and your lamps and disappearing second nightstands and your gay flamingo bar!)

And then, when the audience asks, "is destiel real? is this proof of destiel?" what can the creatives do but deny? Yes, it hurts, to be told "No no I don't know what you're talking about. There's no destiel in supernatural" a la "there is no war in Ba Sing Se" but! if the network said "no destiel!" and you and your creative team have been working to keep putting destiel in the subtext of the narrative in a way that will get past censors, you can't just go "Yes, actually, all that subtext and symbolism you're picking up, yea it's because destiel is actually in the narrative."

But, there's a BIG difference between actively putting queer themes and subtext into the narrative and then saying it's not there (but it is! and the audience sees it!) versus NOT putting any queer content into the text but SAYING it is there to entice queer fans to continue watching. The latter, is textbook queerbaiting. The former? Is not. The former is the tactics so many creatives have had to use for years, decades, centuries, to get past censorship and signal to those in the know that yea, characters like you are here, they exist in this story.

Were the spn writers perfect? No, absolutely not. And I don't think every instance of queer content was a secret signal. Some stuff, depending on the writer, might've been a period-typical gay joke. These writers are flawed. But it's no secret that there were pro-destiel writers in the writing room throughout the years, and that efforts were made to make it explicitly canon (the market research!)

So no, the writers weren't ever perfect or a homogeneous entity. But they definitely were fighting an uphill battle constantly for 15 yrs against S&P and network execs with antiquated ideas of what's profitable / appealing.

Spn even called out the networks before, on the show, using a silly example of complaints abt the lighting of the show and how dark the early seasons were. Brightening the later seasons wasn't a creative choice, but a network choice. And if the networks can complain abt and change something as trivial as the lighting of a show, they definitely are having a hand in influencing the content of the show, especially queer content.

Even in s15, (seasons fifteen!!!) Misha has said he worried Castiel's confession would not air. In 2020!!! And Jensen recorded that scene on his personal phone! Why? Sure, for the memories. But also, I do not doubt for a second that part of it was for insurance, should the scene mysteriously disappear completely. We've seen the finale script. We've seen the omitted omitted omitted scenes. We all saw how they hacked the confession scene to bits. The weird cuts and close-ups. That's not the writers doing. That's likely not even the editors (willingly). That's orders from on high. All of the fuckery we saw in s15 reeks of network interference. Writers are not trying to sabotage their own stories, believe me.

Anyways, TLDR: Networks have a lot more power than many think and they get final say in what makes it to air. And for years creative teams have had to find ways to get past network censorship if they want "banned" or "unapproved" "unprofitable" "unwanted" content to make it into the show. That means relying on techniques like symbolism, subtext, and queercoding, and then shutting up about it. Denying its there, saying it's all "open to interpretation" all while they continue to put that open to interpretation content into the show. And that's not queerbaiting, as frustrating as it might be for queer audiences to be told that what they're seeing isn't there, it's still not queerbaiting. Queerbaiting is a marketing technique to draw in queer fans by baiting them with the promise of queer content and then having no queer content in said media. But if you are picking up on queer themes / subtext / symbolism / coding that is in front of your face IN the text, that's not queerbaiting. It's there, covertly, for you, because someone higher up didn't want it to be there explicitly or at all.

YEAH ok so about the kristin thing at first so recently i've been watching all of phil's s4 videos and i'm getting to the end of 2019 aka they're preparing for their wedding and phil's in the process of getting a visa and it's so :))

i currently have two kristin stream vods in my watch later (bc i've been busy) and im so excited to get to themm it's been awesome to see kristin get more confident in streaming bc she is so funny!! i really love tuning into her streams they are such nice spaces :) also i miss parents sdv i hope they play again

ANYWAYS ok so my ramblings about phil's community is just. hold on i need to put this under cut because the more i write out the more it feels like inane bullshit but whatever we're here now

i feel like out of all of the streamers who have grown their communities in the boom of 2020/dsmp era phil's has been the most interesting to me. obviously biased here bc this is my community but ok. I'm not going to say that phil's fanbase is "the best" because that's obviously a subjective take but i think part of what makes it stand out to me is that it skews significantly older than any of the other streamers fanbases. routinely, we've heard from donos that there are teachers or people with full jobs who are donating to phil's streams. now, obviously we've heard plenty from high school age and younger, but for the most part those people tend to be sbi fans, or crimeboys fans who also enjoy phil - totally valid, etc, but they're not who i'm talking about.

the people who main phil tend to be older, which shapes a pretty different community that has a much less active presence on places like twitter. Those who are on twitter tend to not have nearly as much of a drive for clout as other subtwts - obviously there are exceptions, there always are, im trying not to speak as a total generalization - but i can't think of too many c!phil mains with thousands upon thousands of followers compared to other subtwts. And i think that again mostly comes down to like . it's just an older fanbase so they don't care abt that stuff as much.

oh and also! early gang as a central hub for most people who main phil i think helps a lot because, similar to tumblr, no character limit directly correlates to like. more critical thinking being used and less automatic aggression towards other people in the way twitter pushes to the forefront of every interaction. so as a whole the community comes across as far more chill than other subtwts/etc bc they aren't using twitter as their primary hub of communication

but i also think phil has had a direct impact on how his fans act on twitter regardless of age. the example that immediately comes to mind is when uh. ok. so idk if u were on twitter at all circa late 2020-early 2021, but subtwt selfie days were Alllll the rage back then, there was basically one or multiple every single day of the month for various ccs and duos/groups/etc. and i remember when it started popping off, phil got asked about it on stream and he very seriously talked about how he wasn't comfortable having a selfie day tagged after him, because he didn't like the fact that so many people, many who were high school age/teenagers, were putting their face on the internet for literally anyone to look at. i think he was the only cc who really spoke out about the ramifications of having your face online like that, and i know for me it was the first time i took a step back and went "yeah wait this is kind of fucking weird". it obviously didn't stop the selfie days for any other ccs, or the sbi selfie day, but his fans listened, and there was no phil selfie day ever again, and i think it's that kind of communication between phil and his audience that sort of helped develop his community in that direction, being mindful of internet bullshit and all that jazz. it's that kind of way he looks out for fans and the like that makes me really appreciate him and his community all the more. i just really like telling that bit of his history bc it was important to me in that time

first is, of course, their names mashed together but the second meanings is much cuter and the one fans use to explain their dynamic

When Mae found out their ship name was Maeil her first reaction was “Oh? Is it because I make sure to let Taeil hyung I love him daily?” while cuddling Taeil on a couch

he’s the same age as Mae’s older brother so she treats him as such

her brother is literally like “Are you replacing me with Taeil? I’m your reall brother!” and she’s just there sweating

part of Taeil’s hype squad and will fight donghyuck for the position of president

like the two were on vlive and spent a good fifteen minutes arguing about their positions in the club Mae won but donghyuck refuses to acknowledge it

abt Heechul & Momo

ok so here’s my two cents to this thing. i was a suju fan for a long time and they were one of the very first kpop groups i ever listened to thirteen years ago, and Heechul was always one of those members i liked the most.

so that’s just as a background, meaning i’d love to stand on his side considering how important he was to me once. but. 

here’s the thing. every single time people talk about relationships with huge age gaps they almost without fail focus on the mental state/maturity/autonomy/whatever of the younger person, claiming it’s no one else’s business “because she (it’s a she in this case and thousands of other cases too) knows what she’s doing and we don’t know her and her capabilities and anyway she’s an adult and it’s her choice”.

true, it’s most likely her choice, true, she’s an adult. she probably does also think she knows what she’s doing. but that’s just not at all fucking relevant. of fucking course people start relationships because they choose to. of fucking course people always think they’re fully informed, fully responsible, fully capable, fully mature and fully equal to their partner. that’s a given.  

i thought so too at the ripe age of 17, 18, 19, 20, 21... i fell in love with a man who was much, much older than i was and i could have sworn by my own blood i knew what i was getting into. i was death stern about wanting him, and being certain that there was nothing so significantly different between us experience-wise that i couldn’t handle. i had figured my entire life out in my head, and he was involved with all of those dreams for several years.

but then i grew four, five more years. then i started growing distant, bored even, with my old dreams, then i started seeing my much, much younger relatives i had cradled in my arms when they were babies, grow up a bit and realized i had been just like them just a few years ago. then i started teaching high school students, then i started seeing uni freshmen coming through the campus gates, looking younger and younger every year.

at that point i realized that fuck that, despite what i was thinking of myself back then, despite “legal” ages and initiation rites and legal adulthood, all those freshmen are fucking children in my eyes, and although they are smart, intelligent, capable and witty, i have way too much power over them. just by my experience. i can’t even fathom the idea of dating a 19-year-old guy now, let alone if i had been familiar with that person since he was 16.

and that’s where the fucking point lies. 23-year-old is not a child anymore, but they are still so, so, SO vulnerable in the eyes of a 36-year-old. 

it doesn’t matter what she thinks, it does matter what HE thinks. why on earth would he even become attracted to someone who has so much less experience, so much less life path behind her, so much things she could not have possibly understood yet. 

he has way too much power over her, especially in a society where age differences are more culturally significant than perhaps anywhere else in the whole fucking planet. in a society where the inequality between men and women is so high you risk being beaten merely for saying you are a feminist. 

there are so many of you kpop fans here in tumblr who can’t see that yet, who simply could not tell the difference yet because of your developing brain structures, because of how old she looks to you all, and that’s fine. but believe me when i tell you one thing: you all look, seem and sound very, very inexperienced, vulnerable, soft, powerless and fragile, and in a way unattractive and clumsy in front of us older tumblr users. and that’s how it should be. you’ll see that too in time. you probably see it already, with those users who are younger than you are.

again, this is not about her, or you. this is not about how you feel about your own level of maturity. this is not about how Momo thinks she sees and understands things. this is about Heechul, and Heechul alone.

and the fact of the day is that he thinks it’s totally fine to start a romantic and sexual relationship with a person who was barely born when he already became a teenager. he knows what it feels like to be sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, and he knows how much he has learned since. he knows precisely how much more life he himself has seen, and how dumb he was back in his twenties, and whenever he looks at Momo, having been known her since she was sixteen, he probably still sees her facial features as childish. he probably knows exactly how to flatter her and give her compliments that boost her confidence and make her believe she’s mature, and he knows exactly when and where to use his age as a tool to regain control. 

and if he doesn’t acknowledge any of this, that could be way worse, because it means he’s using his age and experience as a controlling tool nonetheless without ever even being aware that he’s doing it. and being aware of power imbalances and how your words and behavior affects those who are in a more vulnerable position? adulthood 101. 

so please, for the love of God, stop talking about Momo, stop thinking this is about her and what she thinks, even if you relate to her more. it’s not her fault for not seeing things from the other side, but Heechul should do damn well to consider, and then reconsider, and then reconsider some more before he thinks it’s a good idea to date someone who’s on his mercy in so many ways.

it’s not possible to build a good relationship on power imbalance. and thirteen years of age difference, especially when the younger person is still on her early twenties? there’s a whole lot of dangerous power imbalance in there. 

and that’s that on that.

to be honest, all you really did was help out with minor things and passing stuff around for the first half but then 

one of the other stylist ladies had asked you to take over for her

mostly bc these guys were basically idols already as they had already gained popularity on the show

you knew exactly who he was

you weren’t living under a rock, your friends were constantly talking abt the trainees in pdx101 and jinwoo did come up in one of your conversations once

and you felt like you were hit by a bus

this boy’s visuals were no joke

despite him being rlly rlly cute on screen, he was pretty shy in real life

you guessed it added to his cuteness tho

the two of you were the same age and you didn’t know if that made it awkward or not ??

anyway, the staff liked having extra hands around

they didn’t have to move around so frequently and things were just easier when you helped out

so the next time the boys needed to get prepared for something

you were there

this time, you and jinwoo actually had a proper conversation

you were also able to help and meet some other trainees

seungyoun was especially rlly friendly

he just had a big brother type of vibe u know ?

bc the universe was on our side, you were able to work with jinwoo again

this time you were feeling a little less like “ i’m not gonna talk and our faces are gonna be rlly close but im still not gonna talk and it’s gonna be rlly awkward “

lowkey everyone could see you two had small crushes each other

jinwoo was blushing during and after you had done his makeup last time

anyway you both got to know each other

he found out that you two were roughly the same age

he was lowkey vv shy and was nodding like 70% of the time

jinwoo didn’t exactly have a lot of friends his age, especially after joining produce

in school he always just had a few friends but eventually everyone wanted to be his friend

and he sorta knew why and he just wasn’t interested

he was glad there was someone that he could talk to aside from the other trainees

the boys aren’t really allowed to use their phones while being apart of produce

so it was kind of pointless

nonetheless, you were happy

at least you had moved past the awkward stage

you took every chance to go visit

eventually the two of you were joint to the hip

you had your own inside jokes and the two of you were rlly close friends

for a bit the two of you just kinda stuck with friends bc you didn’t know each other too well

but after awhile those initial feelings of attraction came back

you came over every time the boys had to perform, once you weren’t able to do his makeup but it didn’t matter bc the two of you were still talking even from all the way across the room

you did his hair and makeup for pretty girl

you were able to watch it live

and idk if it’s physically possible to bust out an uwu

but you did

anyway, a few weeks pass and you haven’t seen him and life is

but then you get a call as your waiting for the next episode of produce to play

and your heart nearly stopped functioning bc jinwoo was calling you

and at first you didn’t realize that he had his phone even though he wasn’t supposed too

anyway this boi was crying

and you were like huh wait what boi whats wrong

and he tells you he had been eliminated and you were devastated

you didn’t expect him to get eliminated but more because he was really crying his eyes out

you had missed the episode because you had moved to your room instead of the living room to talk to him

eventually your comforting over the phone had worked ( miraculously ) and he had stopped crying

i mean he’s still a whole child, the both of you were

you didn’t really know what to do to get him to feel better

you two kept talking after he had stopped crying

you could occasionally here his sniffles over the phone and you tried not to squeal 

bc aghem i am calm and i don’t have feelings for my friend

you two had agreed to hang out the next day

you two got ice cream and basically spent the day together

honestly him getting eliminated is what brought you two closer

you helped out with the debut evaluation bc even though jinwoo wasn’t on produce anymore

you had still made a lot of friends on the show

they all asked you how jinwoo was

especially jinhyuk and wooseok his parents

you told him he was getting better

after all he was still sixteen ( in korea ) 

he had a whole future ahead of him

eventually you both had realized you were head over heels for each other

not necessarily love, you two were still going through puberty and well life

but you knew you both wanted to be more than just friends

both of you hung out a lot

and multiple times you just wanted to squish his cheeks and hug him

one time it was freezing out but despite that you met up to hang out

the two of you were wrapped in big jackets and scarves

you were walking around a park and it started snowing

a snowflake landed on your nose

and as cliche as that sounds

maybe the universe was making an exception for two cute human beings who were just too pure and soft

he had laughed and wiped it off your nose with his gloved hand

you were really near each other

you both were just laughing softly and were just looking at each other

part one of three : bullet point history. trigger warnings for talk of infant health issues.

august fifth, 2000. it was a sticky autumn night when FORSYTHIA PARTHENIA JONES entered the world with a pitiful cry. the only daughter of two south siders, gladys and fp, and the younger sister of a one jughead jones, she wasn’t born to MUCH ; which made all that she did have matter all the more. a mother and a father who loved her? check. an older brother she would someday idolize and love like no other in the world? double check. a small ventricular septal defect, discovered only after her birth? triple check.

forsythia was, it seemed, destined to be a sickly child. her first few months were dotted with trips to the emergency room and visits to a local doctor, something always seeming to be wrong. infant colic was ten times worse. she caught a chill when she was two weeks old and needed to spend a WEEK in the icu because of the resulting chest infection. the doctors who treated her at birth had been confident over time that the hole in her heart - jellybean shaped, on the very first ultrasound - would close by itself, as many do. hers, however, didn’t. as she got older, the effects became more pronounced. she kept catching chest infections. she couldn’t seem to put on weight. breathing was, at times, a struggle. and she was SLEEPIER than any baby they had ever known before. the original plan had been to wait and see and hope that her tiny heart healed on it’s own. at ten months old, it became apparent that this would never happen ; and the surgery was scheduled. 

your baby is supposed to be PERFECT. she isn’t supposed to take ill every few days and ultimately be wheeled into a room for open heart surgery. it was likely a very harrowing experience, and those first few months of her life were understandably marred - but if there had ever been any doubts before, it became clearer than day when she came out of surgery that the youngest jones was a FIGHTER, through and through. they’d been prepared for a month long wait to bring her home again - it ended up being a fortnight. she didn’t cry, after. she didn’t FUSS. it was as if she had known that the first little while had been tough, and was trying her hardest to make all of their lives that little bit easier. lord knew that the jones’ needed it, especially when the stress of all that was going on with her had combined with their bills. 

now affectionately named jellybean for the defect she had survived, she grew into a remarkably NORMAL child. there were differences, of course, between her and the kids that she grew up surrounded by - she required regular checkups, she needed to dress extra warmly in winter, and she always got that little bit more wiped out than everybody else - but anyone told the story behind the scar in the middle of her chest gaped in shock. the girl who swung from the lower boughs of the trees at the edge of sunnyside trailer park and sprinted after her friends at full speed had once had a hole in her heart? impossible. that sort of health issue was reserved for those with a lot less life in them than the high spirited girl that jellybean became known as being, and never once did she allow it to define her. she was a SPITFIRE, pure and simple, and she’s proud to say that never once did she let herself sit out of an experience just because she was worried about what would happen if she partook.

life was not all sunshine and adventure, though. not every child notices the cracks in their home life appearing. jellybean didn’t. not until the rug was pulled right from under her feet. to her wide eyed and rose colored self, everything seemed to happen overnight. one day, they were happy. the next, her dad was an alcoholic and she and her mum were in transit to toledo, where they would move in with stony faced grandparents who treated her with corporate coldness. she didn’t understand the why of it all - couldn’t have even hoped to, when she was still so young. the reality of her father losing his job and their lives going to shit thanks to it didn’t sink in. all she knew was that she had lost the father she idealized and the big brother that she had always wanted to BE. 

she spoke to them both on the phone, of course. she was even lucky to see jughead a couple times, though their grandparents never wanted to hear about it afterwards, no matter how excited she was. it must have been jarring for him the first time he turned up to find that the pigtailed little girl who loved kids pop that he remembered had sheared her hair and was now listening strictly to pink floyd and other classics. but none of it was the same. not really. it wasn’t having her family together. to say that her drastic transformation might have stemmed from a place of resentment towards whatever forces were at play in ruining her family - that starting to go by JB, so similar to the FP that her nana and granddad refused to allow be mentioned around them might’ve been an act of defiance - wouldn’t have been incorrect. she wanted things to go back to normal. the fact that they didn’t killed her.

and they never really did. she and her mom returned to riverdale, a new opportunity spotted, but things never went back to how they had been before. she learned not to talk about it, though - and now she’s older, wiser, and she knows how to hide her feelings behind an easy bluff. there’s nothing to do but make the most of what she does have, right? a new brother. a new life. a new self. she has to stop dwelling on what she used to have, she supposes ; though sometimes, it hurts to think about what she’s lost. 

part two of three : headcanons.

jellybean is gonna be a lawyer someday, but she NEVER really wanted to be one. her dream from ages 3 to 11, she wanted to be a princess. she overheard some of the older serpents sarcastically referring to the jones family as royalty, and she really chose to run with it - refusing to take off a makeshift crown for the first month and getting called princess jellybean by her father for the next few years. after that phase had passed, though, she found her real passion - and for most of living memory, she’s wanted to own a record store. nothing too extravagant, really, just a first floor, one room sorta deal - she’d plaster the walls with posters of the greats and keep the merchandise in crates resting on rickety tables, and every friday night she’d hold a jams night where people could come and lounge around the floor on beanie bags, listening to some of their favorites. she had it all planned, and it’s still something of a dream - but if there’s one thing that jones’ family knows how to do, it’s sacrifice their dreams for harsh reality. with penny peabody DISGRACED, the serpents and southsiders in general need someone who knows them to represent them, when things go to trial, and feeling a sense of duty to the people she was raised around, jb bit the bullet and stepped up. she’s got a love for arguing and a knack for winning, so much so that god HELP whoever goes against her in a courtroom, someday.

she has yet to officially join the serpents ( her parents wouldn’t approve of it, for one, not now, and there’s a whole host of OTHER reasons ) - but jb went right ahead and got a tattoo on her right hand anyway, cause as a jones, she’s still serpent adjacent. the only difference between the picture linked and the one she has is that hers is done in white ink - her way of keeping things lowkey while still honoring her heritage.

miss her with a motorbike. they’re COOL and all, but jb values her life a little bit too much to trust a two wheeled death trip waiting to happen. she’s more into classic cars, anyway, and has pretty recently invested in the frame of a 1979 pontiac gto from the scrapyard that she plans on fixing up to perfection.

her style is southside meets cute. of course she loves her leather and fishnet combos - but jb is ALSO a huge fan of dungarees and sloganed t-shirts in a whole assortment of colors. anything ‘edgy’ she wears ( big boots, mesh tops, the list .. could go on ) gets coupled with something a little less so ( pink scrunchies, colorful makeup, a disney bag … again, the list could go on ), and that makes her her.

and finally, for now, cause i’m not sure i’ve done a good job of conveying it - jellybean is a good kid. she REALLY, truly is. she’s got some bite to her ( enough of a short fuse that it’s advisable not to test her limit ) & wouldn’t be her fathers daughter if she DIDN’T, but she’s also genuinely sweet. being a serpent doesn’t equal being a bitch, and so long as people out there treat her with respect, she’ll do the SAME. jb doesn’t turn unless she’s given reason to … and if they do, she won’t hold back.

part three of three : wanted connections.

so ive seen some shit lately & i just wanna throw in my opinion 1) accusations of antisemitism: so two years ago, he reblogged two humorous posts that mentioned hitler (one was abt powerpuff girls, & one was an out-of-context gif of a hitler speech). now, im jewish, and i personally have rather lax views on antisemitism bc im so used to it at this point. i only really get heated when someone’s legitimately a neo-nazi. but ive personally reblogged the powerpuff post on my old blog, i remember laughing at it (it made fun of his appearance, not his deplorable actions - saying someone has a hitler ‘stache is very very different than oven/gassing jokes). the other post was parodying hitler, not glorifying him or anything. plus it was 2 yrs ago, and i believe both posts have 100k+ notes. tumblr humor. the trend of people digging up problematic shit from years ago needs to stop. 2) homophobia/transphobia: ok, like, first off, he’s not straight himself, and i know lgbt people can still be homophobic and/or transphobic, but this is thomas sanders we’re talking abt. hes famously supportive of just abt everyone. i cant believe THIS is what ppl are accusing him of? all bc he said he supports asexuals & he thinks that we’re lgbt? as an asexual person, i don’t think we’re lgbt, but knowing him, im not surprised thats his viewpoint and i definitely dont think he meant any harm. supporting one group of people doesnt always mean you hate another group, although tumblr tends to have very black-and-white thinking. 3) hes nearly-30 and appealing to a younger audience: i saw this with dan & phil too, and ive even seen it with 25+ y/o tumblr users. i personally dont see why this is an issue. these people grew up on the internet, and it’s like people expect them to quit once they hit 25. like, what are they supposed to do once they hit that age? start going to local soccer games and reading newspapers?? and it’s always 18-22 y/os with this thinking. like?? what are you doin, @confessionsofatwentysomethingfurry625?? why arent u throwing ur laptop and tablet out the nearest window and deleting ur tumblr app right now & going to the local senior center to mingle w ppl ur age, instead of bitching abt ppl 2 yrs older than u bein too old for the internet?? idk i just dont get that. such twisted thinking. i befriended a 42 y/o mom on here once, a couple years back (on my old blog, before anyone tries to dig around this one to disprove me). she was super nice, and always gave me advice, and never was weird or creepy. one of the nicest ppl i ever encountered on here. now, theres a potentional danger with befriending older bloggers, but theres just as much danger w befriending younger ones?? it’s pretty easy for any shitty person to be abusive online, unfortunately, regardless of their age. a 17 y/o friend of mine was emotionally abused by a 14 y/o person they met online. now, onto a broader topic: internet personalities appealing to the age group thats primarily watching them. all the popular youtubers are 22-30, and their watchers are usually teenagers. they cant help that, but it’s a fact, so theyre gonna try to entertain said age group best they can. it’s their job, after all, and they cant just quit it. a lot of them have been on youtube since they were our age, anyway. this is all they know, and for some of them, it’s how theyve survived for nearly a decade. like?? 4) last thing: the pedophilia thing. alright, so im a minor (turning 17 soon), im a fanfic writer (that strays into smut sometimes, admittedly), but i cant draw, and i notice when my fav celebrities have cute asses. if i could draw, i dont think i’d draw ass pics, but i suppose i could see why ppl would. i saw some of the posts - from what i could see, there wasnt any nudity. it was like, clothed asses. butts arent sexual, unless theyre shown in a sexual context. the posts weren’t nsfw, just maybe a little personal & a lil bit creepy. thomas was tryin to be good-natured abt smth sorta awkward that his fans get a kick out of. imo, nothing wrong w that. he made a post that his minor fans shouldnt post nsfw, but he wasnt doing anything pedophilic by reblogging non-nsfw fanart. accusing ppl of pedophilia is a pretty heavy thing, and people on tumblr like to label people horrible things all willy-nilly. i hope that trend dies, but realistically, its probs wont. in conclusion, i personally don’t think anyones a genuinely good person, but i think ppl should stop trying to find flaws in people who are really trying their best to be good in this world of evil. theres so much more to criticize and protest, and everyone’s energy should be put into things like that rather than some internet guy whos trying his best to be positive and non-controversial. get a life, yall
