10 for the ask game :)

10 - What are your top five fics by kudos or by reads - took me a minute to figure how to work out, SO I've gone through my bookmarks and ranked them by kudos. So by THAT measure

1 - with a whopping over 1000 kudos is lay down your armor (come lie bare with me) by @stbot and I KNOW number of kudos don't actually relate to how good the writing is but in this case it's justified. Great writing, characterisations, dialogue, smutty bits. A fic I've re-read a whole bunch and also one of my very first fics in the fandom. Let's get Kit out of the Cuirass and reassure her delicate little heart that she's loved, okay?? Okay.

2, Escaping Fate by @overkill-max What if Kit ran away but then FOUND HERSELF in the (very long difficult but ultimately healing) process? This is the good shit. An OC I cried about. A reunion I'm obsessed by. HEALING ONESELF.

3, be my mirror (my sword and shield) by OnlySheStandsThere (who's smutty fic of Jade being incredibly horny for Kit in the Cuirass is only a couple of kudos short of this one so deserves and honorable mention.) But Be My Mirror - it's so intense. Jade is a Bone Reaver. The bad guys are so absolutely terrifying. Kit *goes through it*. As sweet as the author can be, she also came up with the most terrifying torture device ever. But no horses were harmed in the writing of this fic, though.

4, if little by little you keep loving me by badlance - I think most people I know are into this fic and with good reason. What if Jade leaves for the Legion and Kit is messed up about it and the writing was so good it HURTS?

5, To Oaths Broken and Knights Who Come Home by ana_chronistic - also really high in terms of re-reads, there's something agonising and beautiful about the longing and love in this one (and all the sex, of which there is a whole lot.)

(also it wasn't in my bookmarks oops but special shout out to 650ft by @commanderbuffy because it's also got super high kudos, was probably the first modern au that got me hooked, and is a WHOLE ride. They're DUMB your honour but I love them.)

what’s the most annoying but prevalent spn take

That Dean is emotionally repressed and unaware of literally anything about himself. That man is painfully self-aware. Self-aware to the point it can be debilitating.

Now, there is a big difference between knowing yourself and acting on that knowledge and what we see Dean do over the course of the series is slowly act on that knowledge. Like all growth it comes in fits and starts, but it's there and it's not the sort of thing he'd be able to do without knowing himself.

I think the misconception comes from a variety of sources, but a big one is Sam. Because Sam is not a safe person for Dean to open up to emotionally. He proves that multiple times over the course of the series and never does anything to significantly change his approach so Dean could feel safe. Sam also had no idea who Dean is as a person. Sam treats Dean the exact same un s1 as he does in s13. And the view he had of Dean in s1 was wrong. I'm thinking of "let's give Dean beer for breakfast and take him to a strip club to help him grieve losing Cas" here, but there are a number of examples you can pull.

Outside of Sam though Dean is desperate to talk about his feelings. There's a post going around right now about how easily Dean started opening up to Spruce in Ghostfacers. He spent most of s7 trying to find someone to talk with about his feelings and being shut down every time. But all Cas had to do is give him that one look and he's spilling his guts. He was very open with Charlie. He talks to random people he meets on cases about his deep emotional thoughts and feelings.

A lot can be said about what Dean is willing to show Sam vs just about anyone else in his life. And we can't take how he acts with Sam as the end all and be all. Dean knows exactly what's wring with him and he's desperate to find ways to fix it and people to help him.

This ask is SO HARD I have spent ages thinking about it. Recommend ONE fic? ONE?? It isn't possible!

But then I was like, okay, I have a fic rec tag, I have covered some good quality bases there (like surely everyone who follows me is familiar with band au by now, and how I want to devour everything @acre-of-wheat ever does, and how *your* fics, J, make me wanna lie down in a field of wildflowers near a bakery and think about love and gender and tenderness and bread and how @wigster07 stresses me out so much only cleaning the kitchen will calm me down and he *knows* this and *uses it against me* like the *fiend* he is and YES OKAY this is very much cheating the 'recommend a fic' singular system I shall stop now sorry sorry to everyone I love and haven't mentioned sorry you all ruin/enrich my life.)

So I shall recommend one of my very first Tanthamore fic loves, the blush fic that went hand-in-hand with my blush fic, be still my foolish heart (don't ruin this on me) by @aro-of-artemis because I just... I love Jade and Kit both so much and I love what Madi does with them and my heart, it is goo, soft tender goo.

Bought my uncle a burger and milkshake in exchange for letting me disrupt the holiest day of the week, NFL Sunday Football, so I could install a Pi-hole and free the household of ads...the thing abt the specific boomers I live with is they told me not to trust people on the Internet but they do not understand the algorithm or online advertising and think that Facebook has their best interests at heart. sometimes I randomly think about the time a girl posted in this girls only Facebook group I’m in telling everyone how she broke up with her boyfriend and he lied saying that he lost the spare key she gave him, only to then break into her apartment when she wasn’t home and steal the cat they’d adopted while they were together, but then he denied having done this and she didn’t really have proof that he took the cat since he wouldn’t let her come into his place and look for it. And then another girl saw this post and knew her ex-boyfriend, and she was like “girl. I used to hook up with your mans back in xxxx and I still have his number. If you want, I’ll hit him up and get him to invite me back to his place and see if your cat’s there.” And the OP was like “bet.”

So this woman hit up homie dog, asked him out for drinks, went home with him, slept with him, and then woke up in the middle of the night and TOOK THE CAT. Like she had only said that she would confirm if the cat was there but then she took it upon herself to steal this woman’s cat back. Like she full on Trojan horsed this man and then hit up homegirl like “I got the goods. Where you wanna meet.” And then the two of them posted a photo of them together with the cat to the group.

And I just think women supporting women is so beautiful.
