Still flowering strongly is out Sweet Osmanthus (osmanthus fragrans) also sweet olive, tea olive, and fragrant olive, is a species native to Asia from the Himalayas through South China to Taiwan, southern Japan and Southeast Asia as far south as Cambodia and Thailand. In China and Japan it is the "city flower" of several cities. I was lucky enough to see them growing as street trees in Yangshuo China. Fantastic flower that smells like Apricot Delight. The flowers can be added to tea to make a fragrant blend. Tough tree, this one is growing under a Frangipani between two Murrayas and really only gets rain water. Highly recommended with it’s green leaves and it’s beautiful flowers. Should be OK to propagate using air layering. #perfume #osmanthus #osmanthusfragrans #sweetosmanthus #flower #flowers #tea #chinese #homegrown #abcmygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #asian #sweetolive (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CedOjOnPDOj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Tahitian Lime (Citrus × latifolia) also known as Persian lime , seedless lime and Bearss lime, is a hybrid citrus fruit species that grows only in cultivation. This lime is a cross between a key lime and a lemon. These limes are usually sold green but I like to eat them ripe. They usually go a yellow colour similar to lemon but this year all the citrus are acting strangely. The flavour is like lemonade and much sweeter than lemon. My grandmother had a beautiful big tree in Dubbo and used to make DELICIOUS Lime Marmalade. 😊 This one is being overshadowed by my enormous lemon so does struggle a bit. All my citrus are grafted as these do better and are more true to type than seedlings. #tahitianlime #PersianLime #BearssLime #citrus #Citrus×Latifolia #keylime #lemon #ornamental #fruit #homegrown #abcmygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #cultivar #GreenLime #juice (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeiWy12vtDN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Bonsai Juniper (juniperus squamata “Prostrata”) is a prostrate cultivar of the flaky juniper, or Himalayan juniper is a species native to the Himalayas and China. This is an example of why you should remove and reinstall bonsai training wire from your trees. The wire’s been on too long and the bark has grown around it. I’m not sure if I should remove it and tear the bark or leave it and potentially weaken the tree. What do you think? Like with most bonsais you need to keep it watered in the hot weather and keep it pruned to a pleasing shape. There is also a Malabar Climbing Spinach seedling and a Christmas Bush seedling growing that will have to be taken out and potted on. #bonsai #Juniper #juniperus #juniperussquamata #flakyjuniper #HimalayanJuniper #Himalayas #ornamental #chinese #homegrown #abcmygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #asian #Afghanistan #MalabarClimbingSpinach (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cef0oMCPnoI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Necklace Orchid (Coelogyne Intermedia, bred in 1913 Coelogyne cristata × Coelogyne tomentosa) cristata is an epiphytic orchid that comes from cool, moist areas of the eastern Himalayas and Vietnam and tomentosa comes from a slightly warmer Java and Thailand 1400 to 2000 metre mountain area. This one actually likes it a bit cool and wet when it’s growing and cool and drier when it’s resting. This is the best show I’ve had for years thanks to our lovely cool wet spring. Pretty smell. #necklaceorchid #flower #flowers #orchid #orchids #coelogyintermedia #homegrown #mygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #seedpod #orchidseeds #perfume (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZlllbFJJzv/?utm_medium=tumblr

Pompon dahlia (dahlia species and cultivars) native to Mexico and Central America. Our dahlias have been flowering continuously since November and are still putting on a beautiful show. I moved my original plant and it now gets more shade and is not doing nearly as well as the one with more sun. Obviously I’ll need to move them again next year but I also need to watch out they don’t dry out. You can propagate by dividing the tuberous roots or by stem cuttings. #flower #flowers #dahlia #ponpon #mexico #homegrown #mygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #longflowering #perennial #tuber (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ89aVgpKa1/?utm_medium=tumblr

Jacobinia or Brazilian plume flower (justicia carnea or jacobinia carnea), also flamingo flower, is a flowering plant native to the Atlantic forests of eastern Brazil. This is another “visitor” from next door that has been popping up for the last 20 years. Although it’s tropical it likes a moist shaded spot. I’ve never deliberately grown it, just transplanted it occasionally. Pretty flowers but needs to be cut back or it gets spindly and messy. You can strike it from cuttings. The plant has historical medical uses to treat anemia and was known as “Hospital too far”. #jacobinia #brazilianplumeflower #flamingoflower #flowers #tropical #justiciacarnea #jacobiniacarnea #mygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #brazil #brazillianplant #brazillianplants (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZi-Ej5peCA/?utm_medium=tumblr

Firespike (Odontonema strictum), quite a pretty flower known as mottled toothedthread, Cardinal's guard or firespike, is a tropical plant that is originally from Mexico, but has been introduced to Florida, Central America, South America, the West Indies, and several Pacific Islands. This one has been visiting from next door for the last 20 years. Pretty plant and well behaved so not a weed to me. It is considered as potentially invasive in some tropical areas because it’s quite a vigorous grower and could out compete native plants. The plant has “runners” so should be easy to propagate if you wanted to. #firespike #odontonemastrictum #flowers #tropical #mottledtoothedthread #cardinal'sguard #cardinalsguard #mygarden #myplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #mexico #mexicanplant #mexicanplants (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZgq-RLJIhX/?utm_medium=tumblr

Alexandra palm (Archontophoenix alexandrae) king palm, northern bangalow palm, or feather palm, is native to Queensland and New South Wales,. A beautiful neat palm it was named to honour Princess Alexandra of Denmark (wife of King Edward the 7th *1901 to 1910*), often called Alexander palm! wrong! (..ra not ..er). These two were already several metres tall in 1995. Now they are at least 14 metres (50 feet) tall. There are many babies growing under them but unless I want a FORREST I have to dig them up and give them away. These are established trees and need no care, only need to clean up the dead palm fronds and flower/seed panicles. These make good mulch/compost, but have to be shredded or cut up, or they take too long to break down. #palm #palmtree #alexandrapalm #archontophoenixalexandrae #kingpalm #foliage #foliageplant #foliageplants #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #australiannatives #austraeliannative #ausnatives #ausnative #birdfood #beefood (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZdkxUsJxSA/?utm_medium=tumblr

Japanese Sacred Bamboo, Dwalf Nandina (Nandina domestica )nanten is the Japanese name, heavenly bamboo or sacred bamboo, is a species of flowering plant, not an actual bamboo, native to eastern Asia from the Himalayas to Japan. The larger growing species, like my mum grew at Dubbo, have flowers and red berries but the more compact types like ‘Nana,’ ‘Gulf Stream,’ and ‘Firepower’ don’t have flowers or fruit. These have been growing for well over 25 years and I’ve not seen a single flower. Regular pruning will keep a nice hedge shape and they need almost no other care. These survive quite happily on Belmont rain. Easy to transplant, just dig up, plonk, bury and water. 😁#colouredleaves #coloredleaves #foliage #foliageplant #foliageplants #topiary #australiangardens #austraeliangarden #hedge #topiary #mygarden #myplants (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZbTIIMJ2FH/?utm_medium=tumblr
