It all started with Putin’s 2007 Munich speech against the New World Order…

“However one might embellish this term, at the end of the day it refers to one type of situation, namely one centre of authority, one centre of force, one centre of decision‐making. It is a world in which there is one master, one sovereign.”
“Today we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper use of force — military force — in international relations, force that is plunging the world into an abyss of permanent conflicts. And of course, this is extremely dangerous. It results in the fact that no one feels safe. I want to emphasise this — no one feels safe!”
“NATO has put its frontline forces on our borders, although as yet, we do not react to these actions at all. NATO expansion, he stated, represents a serious provocation that reduces the level of mutual trust. And we have the right to ask: against whom is this expansion intended? And what happened to the assurances our western partners made after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact?”
“With respect to democracy and NATO expansion. NATO is not a universal organisation, as opposed to the UN. It is first and foremost a military and political alliance, military and political!”
“Moreover, his concerns and objections went beyond the mere expansion of NATO’s membership. His larger sus “why is it necessary to put military infrastructure on our borders during this expansion?”

Baghdadi Jewish rabbi from India, late 19th century
The Persian Gulf port of Basra began to serve as a trading center in the 18th century. It was from there and other nearby cities that many Jews who played an important role in British commerce in the region gradually moved on to Mughal India. In the 1780s, hundreds of Jews from Aleppo, Baghdad and Basra made up the Jewish colony in the west coast port of Surat. Later the community thrived in the cities of Mumbai and Kolkata, making their fortune in cotton, jute, tobacco processing and opium trades. They adhered to the Judeo-Arab religious and social customs, which were strongly influenced by Islamic tradition. Middle Eastern dishes like the Koobe (stuffed dumplings) remain popular among the Baghdadi Jews, who have also incorporated Indian spices and tropical vegetables into their cuisine.

“Look, this is not only going to be about liberating Palestinians. Ultimately, this is also about liberating Jewish Israelis. It's really about humanizing both the colonizer and the colonized.
Maybe I'm not the right person to speak about this, but when I speak to my Jewish Israeli friends, they say that they are not free because they're living in this entity which is always scared.
If you have to kill that many people in order to feel safe, that means you're never going to feel safe.
Colonialism is not only brutal to the colonized, but also to the soul of the colonizer.”
—Iyad el-Baghdadi, human rights activist, writer, and co-author of “The Middle East Crisis Factory,” on why the words we use to describe the war in Gaza should be clear and precise.

soooo many of the deep scars drawn up this week not only over antisemitism but colonialism and the legacy of violent imperialism. anyway I’ll say it again but many aspects of anti Asian racism and antisemitism are not fully interchangeable but deeply linked, and there are a lot of lines of ideological reasoning our communities should not be getting in bed with rn. One of the most significant is the “hive mind” that makes every Asian or Jew responsible for what states do in their name, another is inherent distrust or inscrutability over having “weird rituals” or secretly Evil plans, another is dual loyalties. Please be aware that if you see people using this logic towards one group they’ll likely be comfortable using it with another

Iyad el-Baghdadi: "This message was written by a Palestinian to a Jewish friend. Then that Jewish friend passed it on to Palestinians friends. I don't know the person who originally wrote it. And now I'm passing it on to you. As the rhetoric becomes genocidal, root yourself in humanity. Pass it on."
The image of a Whatsapp message reads: "At these times, I imagine that mainly people are frightened. That we are looking for safety. I have this need to communicate that despite everything that is happening, I love you, and I love you even more, and forever I will. I open my heart my mind my soul to grasp you, to dedicate my life to create a safe place for all of us, for all of you, for me. I am here, I see you, I feel you, and I love you, and nothing that ever happens will erase any compassion I have for you and us, or would fog my vision of each of our pure essence."

“The solution is not to constantly try to moralize. The solution is to fix the power imbalance. The future needs to be rooted in the truth that all human beings are equal, and that Jewish life is equivalent to Palestinian life, and that we can together work on a future in which nobody is oppressed and we can address the inequities of the past.”
- Iyad el-Baghdadi
Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. Though I would amend to the imperative to recognize "the truth that Palestinian life is equivalent to Jewish life." Or it should be. But it's obviously not.
It is Palestinian life that is degraded on a daily basis here. October 7th degraded Jewish life in the extreme. But it was the dramatic and radical exception. Israeli Jews are fully enfranchised, not just to self-determine, but to determine others by force or both law and violence. And we exercise that franchise as constantly as we breathe.
Pursuit of equality, equal rights and equal dignity and equal agency, is the only thing that will save us from dancing around the graves as we dig ever more of them. We must set this as our mission, ambition, the central passion of our individual, communal, and collective identities. And I wish to hell that I could see this as a plausible near-term future.
The Danse Macabre, death being the irresistible equalizer, continues in a perpetual motion. Around and around it goes and where it stops nobody knows. But those with more power are obligated to try. Why don't we? Why won't we? When will we?

"Excuse me, sorry! My bad" Kaarima said, trying to find a place to park her wheel chair in the waiting room. "Excuse me, is it fine if I sit next to you?" the writer asked the archer.

Hearing the other, Archer turned slightly to see the latest person with a calm expression. It was their first time meeting the writer but the archer lifted a hand to sign yes as well as nod their head before gesturing for her to take the empty space.
