Maybe hetalia does not feel the same way as old times because not only it became shounen but maybe hima kinda lost passion. He is never have ask box with fan and never share doodle again (like in bamboo thicket). Maybe he is now focus on his new manga about japanese prime minister (?)

I don't know, I don't think Hima lost passion for it because he still sometimes shares Hetalia artworks on his Twitter and I don't think he's strictly required to. Especially with how fanservicey they sometimes get, they don't really feel that different than the ones he'd share back then. Perhaps just a bit less 'wild', but it's understandable for him to have changed his tastes a bit considering he was in his early 20s when Hetalia started and he's now in his late 30s.

Sometimes Hetalia's true nature still shines through the censorship and editing World Stars apparently goes through. I will never stop mentioning that SpaPort chapter as a clue that deep down Himaruya still wants Hetalia to be like that, even though he rightfully polished edges as he became older and more mature as both an author and a person.

Bamboo Thicket Events weren't that frequent, and Hima would sometimes take even over one year of hiatus before coming back to his blog. They were very appreciated, but I guess as he grew older maybe he didn't have as much time to dedicate to it. Plus, we don't know the exact terms of his contract with Shonen Jump+ so it's hard to say how much of it is Himaruya's wish and how much it's a compromise or a reluctant choice (for instance, maybe he's not allowed to share sketches/drafts, who knows).

I really miss Bamboo Thicket though, I hate Twitter and I believe it's one of the worst socials ever especially for professional comic authors. Sadly numbers make the rules 😔

God where to start with this one-

This is no secret, but Sweden is a sweetheart. Canonically speaking, the reason why he is so quiet is because he's worried he's going to say the wrong thing and is very afraid of embarrassing himself, which is relatable as fuck - me too, Sweden, me too.

He's also like. The only good father we've been shown in the entire series? He makes real, genuine attempts to play with and spend time with his two sons, where the only other real examples of father figures we have (Spain, England, etc.) massively fucked up their kids. Look at what they did. They gave two perfectly good kids anxiety. And inferiority complexes.

It's also sort of hinted that Sweden has trouble saying no to them, and he seems to bend pretty easily to Ladonia's requests. Which is really cute, imo. Big, scary man can't say no to a 12-year-old bc he gave him The Eyes(TM).

He's also very fatherly towards other completely full grown nations too, namely Iceland, who he tries to encourage and support while also trying not to smother him. But it is worth noting that Sweden is also a little shit to Ice too, teasing him and being silly with him specifically when all the Nordics are in the same room, even though it really doesn't look like it bc of his horrible case of RBF. Two instances of this that immediately jump to mind - the strip where Iceland finds out he's Norway's brother, wherein Sweden teases about how there's nothing wrong with "big brother", which offends Iceland. The other is Iceland's birthday. (he also has been shown to be playful with Finland, and in one of the earliest episodes of the series, he's seen joking, laughing, and smiling with Finland!)

As far as SuFin goes, ik I said I didn't like it earlier, but oddly enough this is one of a handful of ships where I actually prefer the canon portrayal more than anything the fandom put together. Sweden is awkward and clueless around Finland, he has no clue at all what the hell to do with these feelings and has no idea how to express them. For such a big, powerful man, he's extremely emotionally inept. He is driven by his feelings, but at the same time has no idea how to put them forward. I really appreciate this, actually. It makes Sweden feel so genuine and real.

I also appreciate the accidental ace spectrum Sweden that Himaruya handed to us because he outright told us in a blog post - I believe on Bamboo thicket - in response to "Is sweden gay", that "Yes, but he only feels this way for Finland." This is where my demi Sweden hcs come from, btw. Love him for it.

Well... You've watched the anime. The manga is also almost if not completely available for free online. @/hetascanlations on tumblr has translated all of the world stars so far (the most recent version of the series) and all the old stuff is here

Be warned some to the early series has some yikes stuff, especially when it comes to characterizations for France, Spain and a few others. But there is like a mid point among the old stuff before world stars where Hima seems to have learned his lesson. But I couldn't give you an actual chapter or year this shift occurred 😅

But it's actually been interesting going back into the old stuff, seeing how far Hima has coming, looking at the more problematic aspects in context, and actually finding some funny moments (as well as GerEng moments)

How to get deeper into the fandom itself...Looking into the hetagame scene was how I got deeper into the fandom in my early years. I couldn't play them myself so I watched lps. Kyokoon64 is a great lp channel. They play a lot of hetagames, they've even created a few of their own, Dreamtalia being their most popular one.

In my later fandom experience, starting in 2020 I got more deeper into the fandom by writing fanfiction, and then joining tumblr a year later. I technically had discord before but it wasn't until this period I actually started actively participating in them. I've made a lot of online friends through both discord and tumblr and it's been great!

Hoo, I keep forgetting to mention here, but I decided to post the tweets from Hima's twitter account to the Bamboo Thicket mirror, since they're not really updating the WP blog. It's still in progress, but I made a Twitter category so it's easy to separate them.

I still have a bunch of stuff from the Bamboo Thicket WP blog I need to copy over, but I'll get back to that eventually.

Also I have on preorder the new OP single, the upcoming character CDs, and a Spain and a Romano charm. And the France Nendo goes up for preorder tomorrow and I definitely want that. Haven't bought this much merch in a long time...

right so. i used to be hardcore in the hetalia fandom. but it was not mentally or physically healthy for me trying to roleplay because i'd get all hung up on the historical accuracy aspect. i want a fresh start with y'all in the hetalia fandom, but i don't think i'll be roleplaying, just writing on my own and independently, because much of the problem was i felt i couldn't set my own pace. if you'd kindly direct me towards resources about the NA brothers and Nordics, I'd be eternally thankful.

Coming to your question, if you want resources on the canon characterization I would recommend you to have a look at @ellawritesficssometimes’s posts (you can find all the links in her directory), they’re very detailed and she generally made clear which parts were clearly canon and which her own interpretation.

I have also written quite a lot about the NA brothers in the past. Everything that is more under the analysis than headcanon category is collected under the tag ‘feyna talks about hetalia’, but for some specific posts:

I’ve never written any in-depth analysis about the Nordics, instead, as they aren’t characters I’m particularly interested in so I generally don’t dwell much on them… Ella’s posts would probably suffice, though.

I honestly wouldn’t know who else to point out as ‘resources’… Many people do write headcanons, but not many analyses based on the canon material (regarding these characters, at least). I have to admit that my main resource is reading the manga. 😅 Kitawiki also has character pages that summarize pretty well the most important things you need to know – but in general, I would recommend re-reading the manga if you want more hints on the characterization of specific characters. After all, even an analysis based on strictly canon material is tinted through the writer’s personal interpretation of the same material and isn’t going to be fully objective… Different people will read the same scene in different ways and result in different views of the characters. I think the best way to have a solid characterization would be to first read the manga on your own and only after that posts written by other people. Only this way you’ll be able to truly decide whether you agree or not.

Edit! To find all the issues where a character was featured (so you can read them), you need to go through that character’s tag on Hetarchive.net – for Canada, for example, it would be http://hetarchive.net/tag/canada/. This will provide you with a list (and links) of all the webcomic chapter Canada appeared in. What isn’t on hetarchive can be found on the translated mirror of Bamboo Thicket, always selecting the right character tag.

All this is considering the canon characterization, though… as in, the characterization extrapolated from how the characters behave in the manga rather than historical/cultural consideration. If, instead, you want to stray from the canon characterization in order to achieve historical accuracy, I’m afraid I can’t help you much as I’m personally not interested in that approach. All I can say is that @stirringwinds has written very interesting posts that are close to a more ‘historically accurate’ interpretation without completely dismissing the canon characterization. If you’re interested in this, I think they would make good, if not resources, at least starting points. 😊

Anyways, I’m publishing this so if anybody has any more recommendations for blogs who write analysis/resources about these characters, they can add on!

It seems so. Last post is apparently from 2020 (the English mirror blog has more recent entries but they're all reposts from Hima's Twitter). I assume he decided to move entirely to Twitter, which I honestly do not approve of because Twitter is a mess to navigate especially in terms of archiving purposes, but what can we do =/

Hey so I was gonna do a grander (and more coherent) update for this, but I’m at the end of a very long day of doing some last minute archival work. It’s almost midnight EST going from Saturday 3/30 to Sunday 3/31, but it’s already halfway through Sunday in Japan.

In less than 12 hours, about midway through Sunday 3/31 EST, Geocities Japan will shut down it’s servers, and Kitayume will go offline for good. Himaruya has archived most of the original Hetalia comics over on his new wordpress blog, and the old fc2 bamboo thicket blog will continue to remain online as well. However, while myself (@barjonabombers) and @jammerlea of @hetarchive have been working the past six months to archive as much material as we can on the Hetarchive and Kitayumeverse websites, inevitably some stuff is gonna get lost. Kitayume and thousands of other Geocities Japan sites represent a huge chunk of Japanese internet history and culture that is about to be lost for good, and it’s very disheartening.

In the end though, what I’m going to be left with the time I’ve spent on the site over the years, refreshing to updates for events, shifting through comics and artwork, and discovering old orphaned content dating back as far as fifteen years ago, long since hidden and forgotten.

A while back you made a post on adoptive/biological siblings but did not mention America and Canada's sibling relationship (Sorry if you did and I just missed it). Are they biological siblings or adoptive?

I’ve done a few about biological relationships (including their’s – there’s a specific post on their relationship in the Characterization in Hetalia series), so I tend to change up the examples that I use. 

You can look through my directory to find related posts. If you notice how I structure my posts, I use “Ex”. I can’t cover every example, otherwise the posts would be too long 😊. 

In a post about Austria and Hungary's relationship you mentioned how Hungary's more human side still has feeling for him; are there any other instances of nations' human feelings conflicting with their jobs

 Yes. On the post titled “How the Nations Interact with their Bosses” I cover how the personifications are obligated to adhere to their boss’s orders.

 Germany being forced to annex Austria is an example I use the most.

No. The nations don’t exist because of concrete govt’s or established sovereignty. That’s a modern concept. They’re cultural personifications that exist due to groups of people identifying under a common identity (hence why you have micro-nations, city-states, kingdoms, empires, and other similar personifications).

Hi! The nyotalia set are from the Nyotalia page on the fandom kitawiki.

Austria (which I plan to redo, and complete the set), is from the promotional material of one of the past Hetalia cafes.
