no need to be sorry, my dear, i already did this prompt here BUT i have a new idea going brrrr on my head so i really hope you enjoy it, love

"if you're so worried that someone will snatch me up, why don't you just confess to me right now?"

this is not your usual friday night, today you've pulled your best friend to a club with you but who can blame you? it was reggeaton night and your blood couldn't help it, the bass of the music made your whole body tremble and you could see a lot of people dancing around you, bodies pressed and sensual moves that the music made even better because of how well it mixed. pulling jason by the hand you make your way to the bar, in the years you've been in college you learned to love this kind of music because of a few friends and you even learned a fair level of spanish to sing your lungs out with your favorite songs.

"i swear i don't know how i let you do this to me" jason says with an amused smirk when he sees you looking around with the excitement of a kid on the toy island from the super, he hands you a glass of whatever he ordered while he sips from a beer can "maybe because you love me with your whole heart and you'll go to the end of the world for me" and he can't help but chuckle even if he knows you're damn right because jason is neck deep into you, he'll do anything if you asked him to so here he is but hey, the guy has limits so when you look at him and then at the place where everybody is dancing he shakes his head.

"maybe not to the end of the world, babydoll" jason leans against the bar, his arms flexed making him look bigger and your brain is filled with how much you would like to be dancing with jason, your arms around his neck and his hands on your hips while your bodies are pressed so close you're about to melt into each another but you only pout "you're boring, jay..." but your mood shifts when the speakers go silent right before your favorite song sounds and your pleading eyes are calling him, telling jason to give in but he's a bit too proud and he also knows that as soon as you strat swinging yoir hips in front of him it will be hard for him to hold back.

his denial makes you turn around and you thank heavens because there's a group of your college friends in a corner so you run there, not wasting any other second you're dancing with them while jason watches at a safe distance because he swears that the way you swirl around, with your hands moving so sensually over your body is making him feel things. you sip from your glass and smile when your friends are cheering you up, swinging your hips and going down and poor jay, he is right there fighting himself because of the urge he feels to touch you all over, to kiss you so deeply while your bodies grind together.

but he is pulled out of his mind when a guy touches your waist, he smiles in a way that has a lot of your friends giggling when he asks you if he dances with you and jason is so close to lose his shit. that guy is doing what he wants to do with you, hands over your waist as he pulls you closer, his face too close to yours and you seem to enjoy it, you let him turn you around and even get closer to move your body against his, making him lean in and it's when he presses his lips on your neck that jason leaves his third drink to walk towards you.

"i think you're testing your luck" his voice is deep and the intensity of it makes you both stop right there, the sight of jason standing behind the guy that was dancing with you, his hand on the poor dude's shoulder while he towers over him "you never told me you had a boyfriend" he tells you right before he steps away muttering a stream of apologies "but he's not my–" and your words die as soon as jason smirks behind his back, looking a bit too proud of spoiling your fun "what on earth is wrong with you, jason?" and reality hits him.

he's a bit too used to be called jay by you or some other too cheesy pet name you can come out with, he likes it and he knows he's in trouble when you call him by his name but it's even worse when after that you just decide to walk past him. he just follows your figure as you storm out of the club, he can see your friends muttering between them but he ignores them, going after you to solve this.

"so you expect me to be happy when some random dude is kissing your neck?" he almost yells behind you, even wearing those uncomfortable shoes you're quickly walking away from him and his shame is the only thing that slows him down "are you telling me that i should have let him touch you all over and pretend it was okay?" and his words make you stop on your tracks "i can't see a problem there, i was dancing and having fun before you decided to act like a guardian dog" you point at him, walking dangerously close to him until he swears he's able to smell your sweet perfume.

"i do see a problem, he was practically fucking you with clothes!" he snaps back, towering over you as he tries to make you see the real issue because the one who should be dancing with you like that was jason, it should have been his hands pulling you closer to press your ass against him, kissing your neck while he said things into your ear "and what's the damn problem?!" you know your questions and words are making him more frustrated but you can't really find out why "that you shouldn't do that with someone like him! god, y/n, it should have been–" and he shuts up before he screws up.

"it should have been who, jason?" he sighs at your question, shaking his head before walking away from you "it should have been you? is that what you're trying to say?" jason stops at your words, was he so evident right now and his posture makes you realize "you have to be kidding me... the next fucking time you want to act all possessive make sure you are clear" your words are a mix of anger and joy, feeling the need to go and kiss him deeply is about to overtake the annoyance you feel because you really wanted to dance "if you're so worried that someone will snatch me up, why don't you just confess to me right now?"

when jason turns around your eyes are fixed on him, he looks at you almost as if trying to figure out if he heard you right "would i have a chance if i did?" he asks, crossing his arms once he's at one arm distance from you, he's question being answered with an annoyed grunt followed by a kiss from your lips to his while you can still listen to the bass of one of those old school reggeaton songs.

It's honestly REALLY hard to pick just 5, but here they are, in no particular order:

1. “Praying” by Kesha - It's just so raw and powerful and deeply, achingly beautiful.

2. “Free Fallin” (Tom Petty cover) by John Mayer - It's ethereal. His vocals. The guitars. The acoustics. The response from the audience. This song transports me to an elevated plane of existence every damn time. The fact that it's being performed live just makes it even better.

3. “Ring of Fire” (Johnny Cash cover) by Home Free feat. Avi Kaplan - Because we know it's all about that bass, 'bout that bass! Tim Foust's final note gives me MAJOR chills... every. single. time.

4. “Move to the Mountains” by Clock Opera - You know when you hear a song, and it just rings so true to your soul - the lyrics, the instrumentation, the harmonies... all of it screams your name in a language only YOU can understand - and it makes you feel utterly and completely seen and heard and slightly shaken? This song is one of those for me.

5. “Breath of Life” by Florence + The Machine - This is another of those songs that just feels like it was meant for me. It makes me feel like a warrior queen suiting up for battle, and LORD, it just moves me.

the funny thing is that i spent a solid 5 minutes trying to think of what to rant about, because my brain loves to forget everything i know about myself when asked.

okay so it's a massive topic so i'm probably gonna pick a few aspects and run with it, but i am absolutely obsessed with music. listening to it, playing it, making it, analyzing it, transcribing it, what have you.

i play 7 instruments, though the word "play" is used loosely because i only really actively play 2-3 but shhh. so in order from what i'm most comfortable playing to least: piano, guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, kalimba, violin, alto saxophone.

back when my mental illness wasn't going brrrr so much i composed relatively often for piano, and a little bit for guitar, but piano is my main instrument. i'm trying to get back into it, but i wanted a stronger base rather than just throwing notes together and seeing if they work. so lately i've been re-teaching myself/learning new things about music theory to have a good foundation.

like a totally normal person, i took the sheet music i transcribed of songs i love and analyzed them. i like to make sheet music or guitar tabs that don't exist of my favorites so i can play them. i unfortunately don't have perfect pitch, but i have decent-ish relative pitch, so i can figure out notes after a few listens and tries.

i've been really into analyzing chord progressions. everyone knows about the "four chords of pop" which is just I-V-vi-IV chords of any scale. (or in non-music terms, 1st, 5th, minor 6th, 4th). the closest thing to pop i listen to is indie pop (and also some j-pop), so i don't hear that progression often. but in the songs i do listen to, they do nicely follow and progress in a way that works well. so the other day i spent a solid 3 hours just madly scribbling roman numerals on sheet music. and it blew my mind that there were so many patterns to be found, especially in the particular artist's music. it was almost like a formula, except every song managed to be unique but also flow together and tell a beautiful, gut wrenching story.

so that's the instrumental side of things at least. as for lyrics. oh boy, do not get me started on lyrics. because i am a Sad Bitch™ my music taste lately has been songs that touch upon struggling with mental illness. either that or sad/yearning love songs. and also some alternative/indie rock. but anyways, lyrics are so fascinating to me and i truly dont get how people just shit out beautiful things and put it to chords. i can either write lyrics, or write the instrumentals. if i try to do both it fails epically. i also can't sing well, so there's that.

but lyrics really interest me because i used to be an avid reader as a kid before gifted kid burnout, and i also love reading and writing poetry (maybe i will write and share a poem sometime). so using metaphors and other literary devices to evoke an emotion is not new to me, but it still amazes me every time how beautifully people can put things into words or create imagery.

1. 3 nights: i realized i’ve actually heard this one BUT not the whole song so it’s ok! i like it it’s v chill v vibey it sounds like streetlights reflecting off a wet road <3 (i am incapable of describing songs with adjectives)

2. emotional: the instrument in the background of this is rly cool idk it’s like. it kinda sounds like hitting spoons on a glass but more musical & almost piano like? i rly like it tho, this song sounds like bright colors & peaches :D

3. honest: this one kinda sounds like one of those ones that makes ur brain go brrrr ‼️ its like. laced w something kfjbjsbfksnv musically it’s not rly my thing but i can appreciate it as a song <3

4. devil i know: i only know one allie x song (can’t stop now) so i wasn’t sure what this would sound like but it’s kinda insane??? the background vocals r so cool i love the humming :0 v sexie nd her voice is so beautiful omg

5. sweet disposition: this feels oddly familiar. i don’t think i’ve heard it tho. it kinda reminds me of say geronimo if u know that one? it sounds like adventure kind of, like it could be used in a travel vlog (complimentary)

6. very nice: aju NICE babababdadadabbabda!!!! i’ve heard this one but i don’t mind listening to it again <3 bop banger etc. good vocals amazing horns in the chorus also if u haven’t seen the choreo i would definitely recommend it it’s so fun

7. moonlight: this is so pretty omg 🥺 i got a mental image of like. sitting on top of a car w someone u love & watching a meteor shower on a clear night. very chill his voice is so lovely

8. rain: ben platt’s voice is gorgeous. this is not the type of music i would have expected from him though??? idk he doesn’t seem like the pop music type of person. i think i prefer some of his other music (cough grow as we go cough) but this is a solid song

9.. home: ive heard this but not since i was like 10 so the nostalgia i got from it,,,, :’) home also sounds like a travel vlog song a bit! i think its the oooohhhhhohohohs in the post chorus (?). this song just reminds me of my childhood i used to hear it all the time on the radio sitting in the backseat <3

10. just friends: I HAVE ALSO HEARD THIS BUT IDK WHERE the beginning played nd i was like wait a minute. OH!! its so nice i love how simple the instrumentals are & jordy has a rly pretty voice as well!! the melody is so addictive as well

11. timebomb: bop?? this could be used in the soundtrack to a romcom tv show directed at teenagers (once again. what are adjectives) it reminds me of when shut up and dance came out nd everyone was obsessed with it.. that was a better time i think

12. cross my heart: headbanging songs > the lyrics to this one r a little basic but thats ok not every song has to have deep profound lyrics that make u feel existential. this is certainly a banger yessir. the ending is cool too i love harmonies

13. shatter me: scawy... the imagery in this is insane "i pirouette in the dark" UM?? this sounds like a movie hello. imagine WAI HISNFVNKDNV THE DROP???? THE VIOLIN?????? i litrally just had to interrupt myself that was not an exaggerated reaction. ANYWAYS i was going to say: the movie scene im imagining is like. it keeps cutting between a girl doing ballet in dark, foggy lighting & a fight scene

14. paris is burning: dark alleyways & vintage movies!!! i enjoyed this more than i expected to? im picturing a girlboss character, maybe a spy? in all black & carrying a purse walking down the street. but she has to be wearing one of those black hats w a veil in the front & a flower on the brim, an ankle-length velvety black coat, & heels that go plonk on the cobblestone

15. arrival of the birds: THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! OMG! blue skies & green grass at a state park!!! i love it so much actually this went in my healing playlist <333 the way it built up in the best way.. tears

16. nyc girl: ok the guitar in the intro??? this is fuckign music truly one of the most songs ive ever heard. the bass fucks as well i rly like this one :D its so catchy im already bopping nd ik later im gonna b going "im gonna make u ma ha hine"

17. relay: the lyrics are so good???? its not a song that id probably listen to very often just bc its musically not my type of thing BUT i respect it a lot. shes obviously a super talented artist like i looked up the lyrics nd apparently she wrote the repeated line when she was 15??? i love what the song is about!

18. dnd: the production on the vocals is a lil bit strange but i like the song itself if that makes sense. its like mitam where the songs r mixed weirdly but i enjoy the songs anyway? i did think for abt a minute that the title referred to dungeons & dragons tho,, also i just looked up the artist and he is ALSO 15 what the FUCK

19. sympathy: the GUITARRRRR omg omgogmomg!! i rly love the whole intro like the first 30 seconds r just *chefs kiss*. OOH bass solo sexyyyyy i love prominent bass :D the instrumentals r really nice too & it reminds me of like. a heist? like a found family of thieves. this song would play as they were breaking into a museum or smth

20. december 1963: GROOVY! simply a fkin tune idk dude like this IS fun nd makes me think of roadtrips during the summer & also of walking along a dock in a harbor under the moonlight. very much floaty yellow dress vibes this song is just a mood booster

21. step with me: domestic. domesticity. thats it. no but the chorus is rly nice omg i like the melody!!! its so cute too the lyrics r so wholesome.. this sounds like an old couple thats been married for 50 years dancing to the radio in their kitchen <333 life goals
