This is an ask about The Muppets. Take it as a free invitation to go on whatever Muppet-related tangent your heart so desires <3
im going to take this ask to talk about richard hunt :) he joined the jim henson company way back when it was henson associates, in 1969. he was 18, fresh out of high school, and already experienced in puppetry and performing.
hunt joined the muppet team in a very muppet-esque way, by calling sesame street from a phone booth and asking if henson associates was hiring. and, somehow, they happened to be auditioning people that same day. he worked the great santa claus switch in 1970, and aided in muppet appearances on programs like the ed sullivan show. on sesame street, he often aided in operation, frequently performing ernie’s right hand or the back end of mr snuffleupagus. one of his first main characters was sully, one half of the construction duo of biff and sully (biff was performed by jerry nelson, who richard hunt would often be paired with in performances). the story goes that richard hunt wanted to perform a frequent character, rather than assisting in the operation of other characters – and so he was assigned sully, who had no spoken or sung lines. hunt eventually took on multiple characters, like gladys the cow, don music, and forgetful jones, although following his death, many have been phased out or put in the background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
his most recognizable characters come from the muppet show, where he would perform scooter (the excitable stagehand of the muppet show often found pestering kermit backstage,) janice (the lead guitarist of dr. teeth and the electric mayhem, typically paired with jerry nelson’s floyd pepper,) beaker, statler, wayne, and sweetums. when fraggle rock began, hunt was one of henson’s core team of performers, so he was often shooting sesame street – a fact that didn’t stop him from performing junior gorg, gunge, mudwell, and the wizard, among others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
when jim henson died in 1990, he chose richard hunt to lead his memorial service. hunt had been with the muppets for 21 years at this point, and had become one of henson’s most trusted puppeteers and closest friends. he would often goof off backstage, entertaining guests to the studios with whatever puppet was closest to him. colleagues recall that he brought the energy to every set he was on, playing pranks on new hires, smoking joints with jerry nelson backstage, and inviting the cast and crew to gay bars with him after sesame street tapings. one of the most famous stories about him was his frustration with elmo, who he briefly performed before the furry red monster became a childhood icon. reportedly frustrated that he couldn’t figure out what to do with the character, he threw the puppet across the room, exclaiming to kevin clash (who caught the puppet) something along the lines of “someone else do it!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he passed in 1992 from complications caused by the AIDS virus. matt baume has described him as “one of the most famous gay men in the world who nobody recognized”. following his death, the muppet workshop created a panel for the aids quilt to memorialize him. hunt was integral to the success of the muppets, due both to his skills in performing and to the energy and spirit he brought to every production he was a part of.

Girl at this point giving you requests is my hobby.
New idea: how about instead of a hated sully!reader, we could have a favorite child reader.
Like, eywa decided that she'll be the strongest and most skilled future Ole'eykatei, so all of the attention is towards her, overlooking the rest of her siblings.
She's Lo'ak's younger twin sister, but she's made the future clan leader because she's special.
She doesn't mind her role or destiny, but she's also kind and wise and calm every time, helping her siblings whenever they need her.
She has scars from defending the clans but also from fighting the sky people, making Jake and Neytiri more attentive of her instead of her siblings.
Ps: she's very tall and biff for na'vi, like 9'11 with big fangs and a lot of admires.
I don't mind if you can't do it, just wanted to give you a new idea.
Sully family x reader
Tumblr media
Jake and neytiri had started a family after the war and the rebuild of the clans as well, what they didn't know was that they were going to be blessed big family. A wonderful family indeed but it was hard for them at times to see that they had favor their kids and left some in the shadows. You are one of their favorites kids and you have seen the effect of favoritism your parents have done, on your family and hated it even the clan did the same thing as well.
Y/n " hey I'm going out scouting and maybe some hunting" you had entered the common area of your family home, as you soon came across your twin brother neteyam, your dad and your uncle Tsu'tey.
Jake " that good always doing the best for my clan, it good that you are your brother as taking your roles seriously"
neteyam " we are planing a bit more attack plans wish to stay and help us"
y/n " I will love to big brother but that your specialty remember you are always good that planning them out, I'm mostly good with the escape plans for the family and clan"
Tsu'tey " your sister is very honorable neteyam giving your credit for you work and role in the clan"
neteyam " yes she is"
y/n " oh yes dad kiri and tuk had went off with grandmother to help her today, as I had helped her yesterday"
Jake " you know you always amazing me sharing responsibility and titles with your siblings, most kids wouldn't do that"
y/n " I love and care about my family hey why don't you ask lo'ak to help he at age to start helping dad, he will become a warrior when he older"
Jake " I think lo'ak is better suit for something else then is" you hated it when you father shot down your ideas of letting lo'ak help, when it came to battle plans. Your mother and father always favored you and your siblings more, and it always left lo'ak in the shadows at times.
y/n " yes sir" you had soon grabbed your arrow and blade and soon left home, you had become a skilled warrior, hunter, healer, and spiritual guide so a young age. Your body had become strong over the years of training and you are tall for your age as well, but not as tall are the other warrior women of the clan.
y/n " hey lo'ak spider" you had been walking when you came across lo'ak and spider.
lo'ak " hey sis"
spider " hey y/n"
y/n " hey I was going hunting and scouting maybe mixed with explore and some fun, and I was wondering if my boys will love to come verse staying here all day"
lo'ak " are you sure"
y/n " yes I love spending time with you two"
spider " yes we will come we have out stuff anyways"
y/n " good now come with me and let have some fun" spider and lo'ak soon had walked away from home with you, as the tiro was walking it was easy to tell something was the matter.
y/n " what the matter and don't lie I know something the matter with you two"
lo'ak " once again it feels like we are being left out of stuff, dad lets neteyam in during his meetings and our sisters get time with mom and grandmother ... and you get to do both"
y/n " ......"
spider " no matter what we do we will see be seen as outsiders, to all the grown ups"
y/n " I can see where you guys are coming from"
lo'ak " we know you do your best to make sure we get involved but, it seems to fall on deaf ears"
y/n " yes I have tried my best like I have done with all our siblings and I will not stop trying, and I hate the favoritism that is played it makes me sick"
spider " thanks y/n"
y/n " anytime"
lo'ak " now come on let get some hunting down or anything else done" you had soon laugh and soon the boys had followed in laughter, after everyone was done laughing the group soon went back to their mission of the day.
y/n " this will be good place there always something good here to hunt"
spider " got it we will look out for anything"
y/n " good"
lo'ak " let see what we can caught today" the tiro was looking around trying to find anything.
spider " hey over here" everyone soon raced to where spider was at and soon saw some animal tracks.
lo'ak " It not that far from here we can track it down and it seems like it with a herd, so we might caught one or more"
y/n " then lets get going" The tiro soon followed the tracks and soon found the massive herd by the water. The three of them were looking at the herd and soon each other.
lo'ak " there are some big one there"
y/n " yes it will be good for the clan so boys which one"
spider " you are letting us pick"
y/n " yes so which one"
spider and lo'ak " that one over there" you and seen the on they had pointed out, you had nodded at them and soon everyone got ready for the hunt. The herd had started moving making the hunt even more challenging but the tiro was not giving up, as the ran after the herd as the animals were speeding up.
y/n " I will fire the first shot and then you two can follow after"
lo'ak and spider " yes" you had fired the shot hitting the beast but it was not going down yet. Lo'ak and spider had fired arrows at the same time soon bring down the beast.
y/n " you guys did it that amazing"
spider " but you could of shot it down you are good hunter" spider was not wrong your strength could of help you make the hunt, over right there but you didn't.
y/n " I could but I knew you two could do it as well"
lo'ak " thank sis"
y/n " now you two can do the honorary rights of the hunters, now come" lo'ak and spider came with you and had the rights and ways of the clan.
y/n " I'm proud of you both now we have to call and get this home"
spider " thank you"
lo'ak " yes thank you"
y/n " anytime" you had made the call to your dad who came with neteyam and tsu'tey along with your and lo'ak banshees to help bring the hunt back home.
Jake " good hunt my daughter"
y/n " dad yes I fired the first shot but it was lo'ak and spider had brought down the kill"
tsu'tey " they did"
y/n " yes they are good hunters and my future hunts I hope they will come with me and anyone else who wishes to come, as my brother and spider are good hunters"
Jake " you make me proud son"
tsutey " you make me happy and proud spider my son"
lo'ak and spider " thank you"
neteyam " you did a good job today"
y/n " thank you I will do anything for our family"
neteyam " I know you will and that will make you a great leader with me"
y/n " yes but only the future will tell" neteyam had smiled at you, lo'ak and spider did get praise for their hunting skills. It seems like after all you had been able to help lo'ak and spider find some position in the clan after all. You had made a promise to do anything for your family, and make sure they are given all the love and support from the family and clan no matter what happens.

'Dear Jinri' bears witness to late K-pop singer's truth
Tumblr media
BUSAN, South Korea
A new documentary featuring a late K-pop star's final interview unveils complex truths about South Korea's notoriously brutal music industry while highlighting her defiance of pressure to conform to societal norms.
"Dear Jinri", which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, revolves around singing star Sulli's last Netflix project, an unfinished film that included an in-depth interview.
Born Choi Jin-ri, Sulli took her own life in 2019 at age 25, after a long struggle with online bullying. The interview in the film -- raw, powerful and heartbreaking -- has never been previously seen.
What Sulli shares in that conversation raises "many critical issues in our society," director Jung Yoon-suk said after the film's BIFF screening Saturday evening.
"These can be seen as issues related to women, or they could be problems concerning the vulnerable in our society, or related to matters of equality," he said.
Sulli, who began her career as a child actress at age 11, made her debut in 2009 for f(x), which quickly became one of K-pop's top girl groups.
Known for behaviour considered controversial in South Korea -- including refusing to wear a bra in public -- she faced relentless online bullying and was frequently targeted by sexually abusive comments.
The film also explores the singer's lonely childhood and battles with self-perception as a woman in a world that can be intensely focused on appearance.
"Since you are born as a pretty woman, you don't have to know anything," Sulli says she was told.
But, she adds: "It's obnoxious to say your life was hard because you are a pretty woman."
The well-documented pressures of the K-pop world are also spotlighted, with Sulli explaining how she was told her goal was to be "the highest quality product".
Tumblr media
She likens her experience to that of the protagonist in Luc Besson's 1990 "La Femme Nikita", who undergoes rigorous and vicious training to become a programmed assassin, completely cut off from the outside world.
It seemed as if people "couldn't recognize that we were human beings", Sulli says in the film.
The interview is punctuated by frequent pauses as the camera lingers silently on its subject, the pain and sorrow palpable on her face.
Audible sobs from the audience could be heard throughout the screening.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among South Koreans aged 10 to 39 and occurs at an unusually high rate, official figures show.
Several other young K-pop stars have died of suspected suicide in recent years, including Goo Hara, Jonghyun and Moonbin. The incidents have prompted calls for increased mental health support for young people in the industry.
Sulli's response to director Jung's question about the online bullying she endured -- specifically, her decision to grant legal forgiveness to one of the perpetrators -- is arguably one of the most poignant and revealing scenes in the movie.
She also candidly discusses feminism -- a topic still controversial in socially conservative South Korea -- saying she "rooted for women who spoke out", even when their views did not align with hers.
In the end, the film paints a portrait of a contemplative, resilient figure who, in the ways she could, resisted the pressure to conform, striving instead to forge her own understanding of the world and her place in it.
The film takes its title from Sulli's legal name, Jin-ri, which means truth in Korean.
"It was incredibly important to view this person not just as a celebrity or an idol, but as someone who possesses self-awareness as an artist," Jung said. "It seemed like the movie would be meaningful as the truth itself, just as (her) name implies."

Snow White and the 1026 Dwarfs
Snow White woke up in the strangest little bed!   She'd happened upon the small, cozy house deep in the woods, found nobody at home, and promptly crashed in the first bed she'd spotted.  Sleep claimed her then, dragging her away to a place of relative peace and calm... carefully letting her ignore how tiny all the furnishings were, how oddly low were the ceilings and fixtures. And now, the next morning!  What odd little men surrounded her!  Normally she'd be alarmed by close proximity to so many strangers, but the events of the past day had granted her an oddly calm outlook on life.  Nothing much rattled her anymore. Snow White blinked sleepily, yawned, and stretched.  The men watched her every movement, transfixed. "Do you talk?" She asked experimentally. One older man -- tiny, rotund, and wiser than the rest with a long white beard -- glanced around at the others and nodded.  He adjusted his spectacles and stepped forward. "I'm Doc," he explained with a jolly chuckle.  "And these are my friends: Smarmy, Ragey, Explainy, Glossy, Pookie, Pesty, Grippy, Inebriated, Teary, Swampy, Piggy, Catty, Hitler, Stroky, Zombie, Snow White laughed and clapped her hands with delight.  "My, there certainly are a lot of you!  I'm ever so sorry for barging in here uninvited, but I don't really have a home any more... would you mind terribly if I stayed for awhile?  I can cook and clean and--" Doc raised a hand, interrupting her gently. "We'd be honored if you stayed!" All 1026 dwarfs nodded in agreement, and were so thrilled they threw Snow White a party to celebrate their new friendship.  The party lasted late into the evening, and everyone passed out with full tummies and a happy smile lighting their faces. The next day the dwarfs arose early and prepared for work.  Snow White cooked them breakfast and when it was time to leave they all lined up at the door to bid her farewell for the day. Snow White expressed her gratitude by kissing each dwarf on the forehead: Smarmy, Ragey, Explainy, Glossy, Pookie, Pesty, Grippy, Inebriated, Teary, Swampy, Piggy, Catty, Hitler, Stroky, Zombie, Fantastic Four Vol 1 #111 and #112
Fri Apr 13 2018 [20:19:48] <Wackd> "He's stolen my entire lower body! Who knows what depravity he'll turn to next?"
Tumblr media
[20:21:48] <Wackd> Ben starts a fight with some construction workers and forces me to contemplate the fact that Sesame Street was in its second season when this was published.
Tumblr media
[20:23:52] <maxwellelvis> Is he picking on Sully and Biff? [20:25:09] <Wackd> Ha! [20:25:40] <Wackd> Sadly, no. Two years too early. [20:27:03] <Wackd> Ben gets the cops called on him for, among other things, using a crane to catapult two workers off a dock, and then curl up some metal to create an Indiana Jones bolder of doom for two others. [20:27:36] <Wackd> Course, the cops don't know about Ben's new trick, and with the help of a stolen coat, he successfully evades them. [20:28:22] <Wackd> I love how smug Ben looks here.
Tumblr media
[20:30:22] <Wackd> Johnny goes off to find Ben. Reed brainstorms. Sue returns to Agatha's with Agatha and Franklin, since it's been a while since she's seen her kid. Reed promises to follow her as soon as Ben's fixed. [20:32:36] <Wackd> SO! Looks like the Bugle stuff last issue was just the start of a wider arc. [20:33:13] <Wackd> Johnny and Ben tear up New York fighting each other, though Johnny tries to mitigate the damage, and within an instant the city's turned on Johnny and there are protesters outside the Baxter Building. [20:33:51] <Wackd> J. Jonah demands Robbie write an anti-supers editorial, and decides to do it himself when Robbie refuses. Also Peter is there basically just to be ignored. [20:36:42] <Wackd> Oh good, we're doing more social issues stuff. Considering the Four are our good guys, one wonders what the message about protesters is here intended to be. Based on previous depictions of Nixon, it sure seems like Stan would be on their side, but.
Tumblr media
[20:37:55] <Wackd> On a lighter note, the Four's landlord is hilariously doofy looking. [20:41:08] <Wackd> Reed grows huge and yells at the landlord to scare him off, all the while helpfully informing the audience that this guy is just a pennypincher who pressured the Four to move in in the first place for publicity, so we needn't worry about his opinion. [20:42:50] <Wackd> As Johnny and Ben continue to fight, Sue cradles an upset Franklin, who somehow knows to be worried about Reed, despite him having no knowledge of events. Curious. [20:43:20] <Wackd> (Sue hears him muttering "da-da", so the conclusion is a bit presumptuous, but I think we can take Agatha on her word when she tells us that's what's happening.) [20:43:56] <maxwellelvis> Maybe he's just talking about his favorite art movement? [20:44:26] <Wackd> Heh. [20:45:13] <Wackd> So, Reed thinks he has a solution, but he needs some help, so he gets Johnny to send a skywriting message to one Bruce Banner. [20:45:39] <Wackd> Unfortunately, Bruce spots Ben on the way there, and IMMEDIATELY Hulks out. Because we're doing this again, I guess. [20:46:11] <Bocaj> We're always doing this [20:46:26] <Bocaj> Joe Fixit travelled from Las Vegas to New York just to beat up Ben grimm [20:47:51] <Wackd> Everybody knows how this goes so let's get over it and let's get this over with. [20:48:05] <Wackd> FANTASTIC FOUR VOL 1 NO 112 [20:49:22] <Wackd> The opening caption informs us that "all we need to know" is "the rampaging Thing battles police in Central Park, the hate-maddened Hulk attacks him!" Now, if it were me, I'd think we need to know WHY Ben is fighting the police, but okay. [20:52:46] <Wackd> So this issue doesn't have periods on the end of most sentences. OR exclamation points. It's kind of jarring and seriously messing up how I read the dialogue. [20:56:15] <Wackd> So, uh, as I hinted, I kinda sped through this one. [20:56:25] <Wackd> There's not really much plot. [20:56:54] <Wackd> Certainly not enough to justify the twist, which is that the Hulk punches Ben in the head so hard he dies. [20:57:27] <Wackd> And just as Reed was about to arrive with his machine to fix everything, too! [20:58:35] <Wackd> Johnny blames Reed for killing Ben. [20:59:19] <maxwellelvis> I guess if you have to blame someone, I guess Reed will do. He'll blame himself anyways. [20:59:34] <maxwellelvis> Even though Bruce will probably blame himself even more than Reed will. [20:59:38] <Wackd> I'm darkly amused by the fact that Hulk, upon killing Ben, immediately turns back into Bruce, who just...leaves. [21:00:14] <maxwellelvis> And other people can't blame Bruce because at this point only a few people knew he was the Hulk, [21:00:40] <maxwellelvis> and in his Savage form, he's basically an animal, so it's hard for US to blame Bruce. [21:01:22] <Wackd> Reed and Johnny do know, at this point. [21:01:34] <maxwellelvis> Hih [21:01:40] <maxwellelvis> Huh [21:01:50] <Wackd> Reed explicitly blames himself for contacting Bruce to begin with. [21:02:28] <maxwellelvis> Why DID he contact Banner in the first place? [21:02:32] <maxwellelvis> I forgot. [21:02:45] <Wackd> He needed help building the fix-Ben-ray that he ended up building just fine without him. [21:02:55] <maxwellelvis> Ah. [21:03:04] <maxwellelvis> Right, he's still a leading expert in radiation. [21:03:20] <Wackd> ...I'll say that the idea of Reed's big solution being completely irrelevant is actually fairly clever and subversive at this point. I just wish the issue had been strong enough to support it. [21:04:02] <Wackd> But then, I guess if you're the sort of person who's okay with full-issue fight scenes, you have a different view on it.

A gallery of Sesame Street characters that fell by the wayside a bit–or were completely retired–as the years went on.
Prankster Harvey Kneeslapper, who scared me as a kid; New York construction workers Biff and Sully; Guy Smiley (with Jim Henson); Mr. Johnson/Fat Blue; Roosevelt Franklin; The Amazing Mumford and Herry Monster; Sherlock Hemlock; beauty pageant queen Prairie Dawn; Lefty the Salesman; and the one character that managed to put kids to sleep before their bedtime, Professor Hastings.
