ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER DEATH, ANOTHER FORMAT.

As with any console exclusive at launch, there are disgruntled gamers who play on the other teams that miss out on some truly exceptional titles. Games like HALO, Uncharted, The Last Of Us, Shadow Of The Colossus, Final Fantasy VII and Spider-Man all spring to mind... And that wasn’t me having to dig very deep.

Deathloop may not have been on EVERYONE’s list when it was confirmed exclusively for PS5, but with Arkane Lyon getting a lot of (Prey)se, it seems they’re now (Dis)honored 2 deliver it on Xbox Game Pass for you Microsoft fans too! We really built that up, huh.

Just in case you’re uneducated on this Groundhog-Day-with-guns looper shooter, well, yeah we’ve just explained it perfectly right there. Then again, “perfectly” would suggest that Bill Murray’s in this picture... Sadly he ain’t. Instead we get two rival assassin’s stuck inside one deadly timeloop. Colt, that’s us, is tasked with eliminating 8 targets in a 24 hour period in order to break said loop and get off the island of Blackreef for good, all while being hunted by rival assassin, Julianna. She’s not friendly.

“If at first you don’t succeed, die, die and die again.”

Yep, each death is something to be learned from as you uncover clues on your targets as well as the island itself. Don’t die in vain, die and gain! That’s our motto.

With some epic reviews on the PlayStation front, for you Game Pass heads it’s worth a punt! You’ve had the scoop now go break the loop. Rhyming’s done now have some fun. Has anybody seen my gun? Etc.

#the story #the atmosphere #the way everything in the world is constructed to convey the protagonists two opposing desires #on one hand colt is desperate to leave blackreef after beint traumatized by being stuck #in his own time loop #n every time he wakes up with no memory some part of him forces himself to try to escape #bc he tried so hard to break out to find Lila #and the other desire which is to stay #he wants to break the loop he wants to stay #he wants to see the world eith his daughter #but hes stuck always in the same pattern #forced in a cycle to attempt to destroy the loop only to realize its all he has #an existence bound to wanting so hard to break out to be free #n juliana is stuck as well #she cant let anything change she needs it to keep going #shell never forgive her father for what hes done but shell never give the other visionaries the chance to truly enjoy the loop like she does #its a cycle of trauma #even when colt is finally content n he puts the gun down his body wont let him truly enjoy the life he has there

anyone else think that's an insanely well-aimed barb? she's the archivist, she had a passion for the written word - her library is the treasure she brought to blackreef. she devoted her life before to a medium that can never ever be added to again in the loop. you can read the same library as many times as you want, but you can't ever put something new on the shelves.
