Just the Beginning
Rescue before this
Hiva coughed the weird slime-like Quirk from her lungs. “Sorry, Shinso-kun.” She continued to cough into her fist, practically doubled over. She stood straight and met the man’s hidden face, finally processing who was before her.
“A-All For One.”
“You remember. It’s been a while since I saw you last. Just this big.” He put his hand down to signal how small she had been as she stepped back, ignoring the sounds of the villains appearing behind her. Spinner gagged as Himiko put a hand to her mouth like it would stop her from getting sick.
“What the-”
Something stinks! Smells good!” Twice exclaimed.
“Sensei…” Hiva finally turned to look at Tomura.
“You failed again, huh, Tomura?” Hiva held her breath as All For One walked past to get to him. “But do not be discouraged. Just try again.” Hiva finally looked away, turning her attention to the destruction around her, gulping at the injured heroes. “Because you judged that she was an important piece.” All For One put a hand out. “Do it as many times as you need to. That is why I am here. It’s all for you.” Hive tensed at the smell of burnt caramel, the first new sense in her brain, followed by an electrical fire, burnt rubber, oil, spoiled milk, and old blood.
“You’re all terrified,” echoed in the minds of her classmates, making them jump or freeze. “Leave.” Katsuki poked his head up just a bit and locked eyes when Hiva’s darted over. He shook his head, and she sighed, seeing it from the edge of her vision when her eyes darted away.
“Shinso-kun.” All For One stepped up to her. “Why are you afraid?”
“I think that should be obvious,” she replied, voice shaking.
“Why?” Hiva tilted her head a bit. “Why is it obvious? Let me hear what you have to say.” Hiva took a step back when he took one step forward. She just waved her arms around, not knowing what to say. “This is overwhelming, isn’t it?” Hiva nodded.
“Just a bit.”
“I thought you’d be impressed.”
“Jeanist is dying!” Hiva suddenly shouted. “What about that is impressive?”
“Well, you’re quite destructive yourself,” All For One said. “The second I gave you your power, I knew. I knew you were perfect.” Hiva couldn’t move when he stepped up to her. “I’ve yet to receive a thank you.”
“Why would I ever thank you?” Hiva hissed.
“I saved you,” All For One answered. “You would be dead without me.” Hiva shook her head.
“No, you didn’t.” She moved around him and backed away, tripping over Tomura, who caught her, panicking when all five fingers touched her.
“You’re okay…?” Hiva pulled away from him, uncomfortable with the excited look she knew he had hidden behind the hand on his face.
“Shinso-kun,” Hiva froze when she stumbled into All For One’s chest, “you seem to be having some trouble remembering. Why don’t I help you?”
“No!” Hiva and Ayame each yelled, giving the other matching looks of confusion.
“Why would you hide from her what I’ve done to help her?” All For One questioned. “Now she’s scared of me when all I’ve ever wanted was to protect her.”
“She would’ve told her father,” Ayame defended. “I had to protect you.”
“No, you took that day away from her memory to protect her.” Ayame’s confused expression was back.
“Are you kidding? More pain, more power. What weapon isn’t powerful?”
“Ayame, don’t speak of your child in such a way. Hiva flinched at the hand he laid on her shoulder for fake comfort. “However,” he placed his other hand under her chin to make her look up, “you are right.” Both hands went to her head, and she backed away, grunting at the sudden sharp pain. “Don’t fight it, Shinso.”
---
“Mom, I don’t want to be here,” Hiva whined as she looked around. “It feels… bad.” She tried to pull her hand from Ayame’s iron grip. “I’m scared!”
“How do you expect to be a good hero if an empty room scares you?” Ayame questioned. “You’re better than that, Hiva.” A door opened, and Hiva jumped, making Ayame sigh with an eye roll. “Get yourself together.” A man walked forward, but he seemed to be struggling.
“A-Are you okay?” Hiva asked. She couldn’t help herself. The man smiled and crouched down to her height.
“Is this her?” Ayame nodded.
“Yes,” she answered the man’s question, “this is Hiva.” Ayame finally let go of Hiva’s hand. “Hiva, tell him about your Quirk.” Hiva looked away with shame.
“I don’t have one,” she whispered.
“That’s right, you don’t have one. We’re going to fix that today, okay?” Hiva looked up excitedly but then grew suspicious. It seems a little too good to be true. There was always a catch with this woman. Ayame stepped behind the man.
“Ready?” Hiva turned her suspicious look to him.
“What’s the catch?” He laughed much more than he should’ve, and Hiva tensed.
“There’s no catch,” he told her. Hiva stepped forward, and he put a hand on her head. “I’m about to give you a lot of power. Do you think you can handle it?” Hiva hesitated but then nodded.
“I think so.” The man chuckled, and his smile fell away.
“That’s a no.” Hiva tried to step away, but it was too late. Hiva screamed in pain. He pulled his hand away, and she fell to her knees. Her eyes glowed a dim black as tar-colored tears fell down her face. A cloud exploded from her and destroyed all the equipment as she crumbled to the ground.
“It’s done,” he said as he collapsed into a chair.
“It is?” Ayame asked.
“Yes.” It was almost entirely silent, with the only sound coming from Hiva’s whimpers. “It’s okay. You can stand.” Hiva shook her head.
“Get. Up.” All For One reached out to Ayame.
“Be gentle.” He groaned as he stood and held out a hand. “I honestly didn’t expect that. Let me help you up.” He again offered his hand, but Hiva didn’t take it. He sighed before lifting her up and carrying her over to the wall. He put her back down and leaned her back. He sighed again as he straightened himself. “What are you doing in here, Tomura?” The boy standing in the doorway frowned.
“I’m sorry, I heard things, and I just…”
“You got curious?” Tomura nodded. “That’s okay. Curiosity is the base of humanity.” All For One gave the boy a ‘come here’ motion. “Come on.” Tomura did as told and tensed at the purple-haired girl leaning on the wall.
“Who’s that?” She looked up, and he saw that her eyes were completely black. Just endless glowing black.
“Someone you should get to know.” All For One and Ayame left the two alone, and Tomura sat beside her.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Hiva,” she whispered. Black blood fell from the corner of her mouth, but she paid no attention to it.
“I’m Tomura.” He studied her for a second. “You’re kinda scary.” Hiva frowned at that. “I like it!” Hiva smiled a bit. “You don’t like heroes either, huh?”
“Why do you think that?”
“So, you do?”
“I like real ones.”
“Real ones? Like All Might, right?” Hiva shook her head at Tomura. The bitterness left his tone. “Then what’s a real hero?”
---
“Such a beautiful experiment,” All For One sighed as he stepped closer to her. Hiva looked up at him but still somehow managed to stare him down. “So much power in you. I don’t like to pick favorites, but you’re my favorite Nomu. I didn’t have to change your body at all! It was so easy with you that I assumed I knew what was wrong. I thought others would be just as easy. Unfortunately, I needed to change them. Well, all others except one.” Hiva fought the urge to take a step back. “I still haven’t gotten my thank you. I did you quite the favor.” Hiva scoffed, and Haruko gave her a worried look. “I think it’s time you repay me. It’s time to do your job.” Hiva slapped his hand away from her.
“I don’t owe you shit,” she told him.
“You owe me everything. Do you really think you could’ve gotten into U.A. without my help? No one would even know your name without me.”
“I don’t want people to know my name,” she replied.
“You’re lying, Shinso-kun.”
“Yamada!” Hiva shouted, surprising herself with her outburst.
“You want people to know you,” All For One taunted. “You want everyone to know your name because you have to prove yourself to everyone. Thanks to me, you can. I made you, and everyone will see you because of it.” Hiva screamed with frustration. The sound forced the villain back, cracking his mask and further destroying the wreckage behind him.
“I created myself,” Hiva growled. “You didn’t do anything for me except give me something I never wanted.” She walked up to All For One and got up in his face. “Considering the shit I was dealing with, I was doing great. All you did was make it worse.”
“You will respect me.”
“Oh, will I? What are you gonna do if I don’t?” Hiva challenged. Aza grew behind her, becoming a beast that towered over them.
“You will do what I ask.” Hiva sucked in a breath.
“But I don’t feel like it,” she whispered. All For One seemed to want to say something but stopped.
“You’re here, after all, aren’t you…?” Hiva turned to where All For One looked and watched All Might soar through the air. He punched at the villain, but All For One grabbed his fists.
“I’ll have you return everything, All For One!” All Might yelled.
“Will you kill me again, All Might?” Aza shrunk down and forced the men away from each other with a wave of its arm. Both turned to Hiva, and she put her hands up.
“Not me.” Aza waved to them, and a large explosion sent everyone flying back.
“You’re pretty late,” All For One taunted. “It’s a little more than five kilometers from the bar to here.” Hiva’s eyes widened when she realized All For One was the only one standing except her. “It was easily 30 seconds after I sent the Nomus before you arrived. You’ve gotten weaker, All Might.”
“What about you? What’s with the industrial mask you’ve got on? Aren’t you overexerting yourself? I won’t make the same mistake as I did six years ago, All For One! I will take Young Hiva back! And this time, I will throw you in prison for sure! And all of the League of Villains you control with you!” All Might lept at All For One, and the villain raised his hand in response.
“There’s so much to do. It’ll be tough… for both of us.” His arm began to swell, and a powerful typhoon blew from his palm, knocking him back through buildings.
“Aza!” Hiva snatched Aza out of the air and threw her arms toward the direction All Might went. Black smoke wrapped around the buildings, lifting the ones that collapsed from the ground and steadying the ones that would follow.
“Air Cannon plus Spring-like Limbs, Kinetic Booster times four, Strength Enhancer times three. This combination is fun. Maybe I’ll try to add a few more enhancer types.” Hiva suddenly felt her feet leave the ground and flew back, taking buildings down as All Might had. She laid there until she felt the bones in her body rearrange and fix themselves. She took a deep breath and stumbled slightly from the numb feeling.
“Alright, let’s do this.” Hiva appeared back on the battlefield and watched All Might dodge whatever Quirk All For One was using. Hiva held her hand out, black swirling around her arm and rushing towards All For One. He was sucked in and then shot out like a cannonball. All Might looked over to Hiva, and she threw her arm down, forcing all the villains to the ground.
“Hiva-”
“Behind you!” she warned, sending black over the hero's head. All For One blew her attack away and used his Quirk to stab into All Might’s back and her chest, forcing them both to the ground. The villains rose to their feet.
“I won’t let you. That’s why I’m here!” All For One threw All Might and pulled Hiva closer to him. When she was close enough, she blew up like a bomb. Black smoke filled the leveled area and forced everyone back. The smoke seemed to reverse, and Hiva appeared again, gasping for breath.
“Impressive, Hiva,” All For One complimented as he stepped through the dust. All Might jumped from the building to All For One. While they fought, Hiva dodged the villains and tried to get to Shigaraki. She dodged Toga’s knives and spun around Shigaraki, lightly grazing his head. ‘Gotcha.’
“Shigaraki,” he jumped at her voice in his head, “I need you to listen to me. I’m trying to keep you all safe. I can’t not hurt you if you’re here. You have to go.” Shigaraki shook his head. “I promise I’ll find you.”
“No!” he shouted.
“Shigaraki, I have to keep up the act. I have to be a hero right now.” Hiva swiped her hand through the air and sent the villains back. “I know a part of you trusts me. I need it to listen to me.” Shigaraki had no response. Hiva ducked under Yuuma’s hand, and she once again made sure to pass Shigaraki.
“Please, Tomura,” she whispered, hand brushing his. He watched her duck away from Compress and sighed. Just then, a large explosion followed by a cliff-like size of ice appeared. Hiva watched the group fly through. Eijiro towards the front, with Tenya, Izuku, and Katsuki acting as propellers. Katsuki and Izuku each held their hands out to her.
“Veeves!” Izuku called. Hiva shook her head and held her hand toward where they had been hiding. Black surrounded Shoto and Momo and flung them up to the group in the air.
“I told you to get out of here!” The black spread to all of them, and she winced at the scream of fury Katsuki released before they all disappeared from view.
“We’re leaving!” Shigaraki called.
“What?!” Ayame screeched. “We can’t! We’re-” She stopped when Shigaraki turned to her. Before they could go, Gran Torino attacked Twice, Spinner, and Magne, knocking them all to the ground.
“That was a stupid thing to do, kid,” he told Hiva. She nodded.
“I know, but this fight with All For One isn’t just All Might's.”
“You’ll get yourself killed. You have the power to leave.”
“Which means I have the power to win.”
“You’re too slow!” All Might exclaimed as Gran Torino dropped to the ground.
“You’re too fast! Hey, Midoriya’s really turning out to be more and more like you. In a bad way!”
“All Might!” The hero turned to Hiva. “Don’t hold back, just stay out of my way. Don’t want you breaking a hip or something, do we, old man?” Hiva sent him a teasing grin, and he sighed.
“You should have gone.”
“I already heard that!” she shouted. “This is my fight, too!”
“No, it isn’t!” She shook her head at him.
“You have no right to decide what does and doesn’t include me."
“Shimura’s friend, huh?” Hiva’s head snapped to where All For One was sitting in the rubble. All Might coughed into his hand, and Hiva swallowed her gulp.
“It’s shameful, but with this, I can defeat you without reserve, All For One!”
“We’ve got five left here, too!” Gran Torino called while staring at Ayame, Yuuma, Kai, Shigaraki, and Toga. “I’ll end this!”
“Tomura, I don’t want this to end!” Toga whined.
“They got us,” All For One said. “They neatly turned the tables on us in one move.” The Quirk he used before went Over All Might’s shoulder and into Magne’s chest. “Forcible Quirk Activation! Magnetism!” Gran Torino jumped towards Shigaraki.
“Turn to dust!” Before either could make contact, Shigaraki was dragged back. The men flew towards Toga and Ayame, and they all fell through the warp gate as Shigaraki continued to fight. “With that body, you’ll- No!” Tomura was finally pulled through. “I’m… not…”
“Tomura… You must keep fighting.” All Might lept at All For One. “‘Warping’. Plus ‘Shock Inversion!’” Hiva saw what he was doing before All Might and appeared in front of his punch, shielding Gran Torino and watching his arm fly back from the recoil.
“I-I’m sorry!” he apologized. Hiva pulled Gran Torino from the warp and placed him on the ground, far from the fight.
“Are you okay?” The hero merely nodded as she stood to turn back to the fight. ‘How did she do that? When you’re high on endorphins, it’s hard to recognize pain, but that… She didn't even stumble.’
“I only came to save Tomura, but if you say you’re going to fight, then I will, too. In the past, that fist crushed one after another of my comrades, and you were extolled as the Symbol of Peace. The view you had from atop our sacrifices… It must have been a great one.”
“Detroit… Smash!” All Might’s fist met All For One's palm, and Hiva waved her hand, creating a wall to protect the older hero from the backlash of their matching power. Hiva rose from All For One’s shadow and flew up using the same air cannon he had used earlier, forcing him into the ground. ‘I don’t know if All Might can do this alone, but I can’t say that. If I could be certain, I would’ve left. Something just feels wrong.’ All For One floated and landed gently on his feet.
“I won’t let you fight without reserve,” Al For One said. “Either of you. Heroes have a lot of things they need to protect, don’t they?”
“Shut up…” ‘People are getting injured because of this fight. How many have already died? How many will?’
“You always toy with people like that! You break them! Scoffing irrationally at the people just trying to live their lives.” All Might jumped forward and grabbed All For One’s arm before he could react. “I cannot…”
“Oh no… time for Warping…”
“… forgive that!” All Might yelled. His fist met All For One’s mask, shattering it instantly and forcing him to the ground. ‘It’s not over yet. That wouldn’t finish it. If All Might can get that close, I could too. I have been, I've just been playing it too safe. I can get him somewhere away from people so no one else can get caught in the crossfire.’
“Toshinori…” Torino wheezed. “You’ve reached your limit…!”
“What’s wrong?” All For One taunted. “You seem to be very worked up about something, All Might. I heard the same line before…” All For One laughed, and All Might gasped, “… from the previous One For All successor… Shimura Nana.”

Well guess who's back! 🥳
After my long burnout, I'm getting back into my hero academia so I'm rewatching from the beginning and rewriting/redesigning Hikaru as I go! I love my old OCs, but having that many and making them in rapid succession was a big part of the burnout. So Hikaru's gonna be the main stay!
I'm aiming to draw more of her and hopefully some little comics between her and her love interests. Hope you guys like the drawing!! ❤

Conversations before this
Hiva's P.o.V
“Hear any of that?” I turned to Shigaraki and tilted my head.
“Any of what?”
“The news.” I shook my head, and he chuckled a bit. “Well, I’m really great full for all the publicity we’ve been getting. Hey, don’t you agree...?” I shrugged.
“It depends on how you want to think about it,” I answered. “Right now, it’s the reason staying low is the best option for you guys.” I felt Ayame’s burning gaze pierce the back of my head and sighed. I heard the door close and turned to look behind Ayame to Dabi.
“Shinso, come.” Ayame growled but turned to Dabi. “Not you, dumbass. The little one.” He turned to me, and his tone changed. “Come on.” I hummed at the weirdly gentle voice but followed.
“Where’d you go?” I asked, trotting after him to the bathroom. He lifted the items in his arms to signal he stole from some store. “Why? We have to lay low.”
“A thank you would be nice,” he replied while shoving a box of pads into my chest. “You’re welcome.” I tilted my head at him. “Kai.” I huffed but thanked him. “Up.” I hopped on the counter between two sinks and watched Dabi unwrap my arms and head. I hummed at the familiar look on his face.
“You’re either an older brother or dad,” I observed. “Too young for dad. Do I remind you of a sibling or something?”
“Shut up before I set you on fire,” he threatened. “Turns out I wasted my time and energy. You’re fine.” He turned and quickly left the room.
“Thank you!” I called after him. ‘I was right about something. That was an odd reaction.’
“I’m just doing what I’m told!” ‘He doesn’t seem the type to follow the rules either.’ I shrugged and slid off the counter to go to one of the bathroom stalls. I sighed when I left the bathroom. A hand on my shoulder kept me from going any farther. I turned and sighed at Ayame.
“You are far more devious than I thought. I raised an eyebrow.
“What is that supposed to mean?” She scoffed.
“You’re doing what took me years,” she hissed.
“Okay, same question.” I shrugged her hand off my shoulder, but she grabbed me again.
“Somehow, you have Tomura wrapped around your finger,” Ayame finally explained. “Congratulations on getting Dabi too.”
“Shigaraki, maybe, but Dabi’s just following orders.”
“What? You think Shigaraki is ordering us to make you comfy? No one’s comfortable here! What did you do?” I shrugged to answer and to get her hand off of me.
“Nothing,” I replied. “It never crossed your mind that I’m just likable? Unlike you, Ayame, I don’t need to play with people’s heads to make friends."
“You are nothing more than a manipulative bitch, and I’ll make sure Tomura knows it.”
“Okay, Ayame.” I turned and walked away, taking a deep breath when I went around the corner. ‘God, I hate it here.’
---
According to the news, everyone but Ragdoll was safe and accounted for. Those unconscious or injured were safe but in the hospital to be monitored. It seemed that they wanted to be sure that there were no lasting effects. They were also naming me a hero. I learned the villains’ real goal and sacrificed myself for the safety of my friends and heroes. I wanted that to happen, but the name still made me cringe. I grabbed the remote and clicked the television off. “I’m getting sick of hearing that,” I grumbled as I patted Aza’s head.
“Um, Shinso…”
“Hiva,” I corrected Magne. “What’s up?” She took the bar stool beside me.
“I wanted to apologize for that.” Magne pointed to her head.
“You’re trans, right?” Magne slowly nodded, wondering what that had to do with anything. “I’ll pretend it never happened if you get a little personal with me.”
“What do you mean?” I shrugged with a sigh.
“I’ve never had anyone to talk to when it comes to gender stuff. Maybe it’s weird, but…”
“It’s not weird,” Magne assured. “What’s up?”
“How did you know?” I asked. “Well, I know, but how did you accept it, I guess, is what I mean. Because everyone else I’ve met, my family included, can be who they are no problem, but I feel guilty and wrong when I try.”
“You’re not them,” Magne told me. “Every journey is different, and yours had Ayame in a way theirs didn't.” I grumbled a bit.
“She fucks with you too?”
“Just those little passing comments,” Magne stated. “I can guess the impression she made about gender and sexuality. No matter what, people will look down on you for being yourself. It makes being you the hardest thing to be. At some point, you should stop living in the image others set for you and start living in the one you set for yourself.” Ayame chose that moment to walk in, and I bit my lip. “You’re a kind, pretty kid. You deserve to be yourself.” I smiled at Magne.
“Thanks.” Magne nodded.
“I hoped that helped.” I nodded back.
“It did.”
---
Kai sat beside me at the bar, and I slid the bag of chips over to him. With Shigaraki as a babysitter to make sure I didn’t slip away, I used my Quirk to disguise us. I used the same trick I had to get into the underground bar and went out to steal some food from a relatively close corner store. How they lived in this bar so long, I have no clue. “No.” He pushed the bag back and continued to stare.
“What’s with the face?” I asked as I stole my drink back from Shigaraki. “Will you stop that?!” He huffed. “Well, I told you to get your own.” Kai grabbed my wrist and pulled me away. “Hey, watch it!” He threw me into the bathroom, and I almost stumbled into one of the stalls. “What’s your problem, man?” Kai sighed and rubbed at his hair. “Are you okay?” I could feel his nervousness. Something about him felt normal, and I hated that. He took my hand and placed it on his head.
“Read,” he ordered.
“I need to talk to you, but it just can’t be here.” ‘Still so paranoid.’ I thought with a sigh. For whatever reason, I let him pull me after him. I felt someone following us, and from how Kai’s jaw tensed, he did too. He went out the back and through the emergency exit, practically staring into my soul when the door swung shut. The door slammed open, and we both jumped, Kai pulling me closer like it was still an instinct. I looked over and saw Ayame searching the alley.
“Damn, Haruko!” She waited a minute before sighing and heading back inside. When the door closed again, Kai started pointing in random directions, teleporting us anywhere and everywhere until we stopped on a random roof. He sighed and let go of me when he blinked, rubbing at his eyes.
“Okay, what’s going on?”
“I’m sorry.” I tilted my head.
“Excuse me?” Kai swallowed and shook his head.
“I just… I wanted to finally say it. I swear I mean it, but it'll make you listen to what I have to say.” I was confused but sat, and Kai slowly did the same.
“Alright, I’m listening.” Kai sighed.
“I was looking back at everything, and I realized we were made to fail,” he started. “I was shit, and it made you act like shit.”
“You weren’t the only one causing problems,” I mumbled. ‘It was just easier to pretend it was just you.’ Kai shook his head and laughed.
“No. You tried so hard! I really changed you.”
“Just a bit.” ‘After blaming him for so long, it’s hard to see him like this. I don’t think it’s just his fault. Or is it, and I just want to believe he’s good?’
“I was the bad guy. You were and somehow still are so perfect.” I shook my head. ‘I want this to be a trick, but I can feel your regret. Go back to being mean.’ “We each had issues. You kept yours to yourself, and I took mine out on you. I’m sorry, Hi- Shinso. I didn’t have anything to go off of. I thought that’s how it was supposed to be.” I nodded, remembering all the times they had to listen to his parents’ arguments that quickly turned to fist fights. “You were no stranger to the screaming and fighting, but when Aizawa showed up, you got a sense of stability I never knew. You tried so hard, and I turned us into my parents. There’s not enough apologies in the world to make up for that. I did whatever I could to hurt you, and I still don’t know why. Maybe I was jealous that you were growing, and I was still stuck.” Kai gave me a sad smile. “I made you afraid of me. You still look afraid of me.” I sighed and pulled my knees to my chest.
“You want to believe I was perfect, but you have to be honest,” I said. “I wasn’t a good person when I was with you. Maybe it’s because people play into the toxicity of others. That’s what you want to believe. I don’t care if it was because of you or not, though. I still feel bad for what I did, and I wanted to blame you, too. Hearing you take responsibility like that makes me feel bad for not doing the same. I cheated, too, because I wanted to get back at you. I yelled back, and I pushed you back-"
“You never hit me back.” I rested my chin on my knees and looked at the ground.
“But I wanted to,” I admitted quietly. “I really wanted to.”
“Everything you did, you wouldn’t have if it weren’t for me.” I quickly wiped my eyes just in case and looked up at him.
“But I still could’ve been better. You’re not the only one that messed up. I don’t want to blame only you anymore.” He shook his head.
“You didn’t do anything to make me act how I did.”
“Then it was neither of our faults.” Kai shook his head again. “No, because your family made you like that, so it’s not your fault either. You were right. We would’ve never made it together. We were, what, thirteen when we first met? Traumatized and desperate for anyone to love us? How can we be at fault for that?” Kai sighed.
“You’re still so stubborn.” I smiled at his little chuckle.
“But I think it was me.”
“Hi- Shin- I’m bad at this. Shinso-” Kai shut his mouth when I lifted my hand.
“I still care about and love you, just not how I did. I don’t think it was ever how I should’ve. It’s a trick I’ve played on myself so many times. You liked me, so I made myself like you back.” Kai was rightfully upset at that. “If I loved you how I should’ve, none of this would’ve happened.” Kai shook his head.
“You’re right. It was none of our faults.” I tilted my head. “You expect me to believe you’d act like that without your mommy and abandonment issues?” I rolled my eyes at the seriousness hidden in his joking tone. “I think we just got dealt an unlucky hand.” I nodded.
“I think so too.” It was comfortably silent, something I didn’t expect. “You’re so normal now. What was that at USJ? It certainly wasn’t Haruko.” Haruko smiled at the sound of his first name but quickly shook it away.
“Because it wasn’t,” he replied. “It was Ayame. This is what I wanted to say. She wanted me to join. She said I could finally get you back, and I fell for it. I heard her plans, and found out what kind of person she was. It was one hell of an eye-opener, that’s for sure. I tried to back out, but she didn’t let me. Everything’s been foggy ever since. I remember it, but it’s like a dream. I don’t know what happened or what I made up.” I waved my hand to interrupt him, getting on my knees to lean into his face.
“Sorry, one sec. You broke out of her brainwashing?” He nodded. “How? I’ve never met anyone that could do that.” Haruko shrugged.
“I don’t know, but I’m not worried about that now. Ayame’s losing it. She’s not just gonna fall off her rocker, it’s gonna send her flying. Honestly, Hiva, the things she’s said…” Haruko shivered. “I thought I had it bad. She’s a monster and far too good at hiding it.” I nodded.
“Believe me, I’m aware.”
“I want you to go.” I shook my head. “No, Hiva, you really have to go.”
“No, Haruko, I will not.”
“You can’t actually be joining the league?!”
“So, what if I am?!” I yelled. “What’s there to lose?”
“Kaminari!” he shouted back. “That’s his name, right? Your Mic?” I sighed at the comparison.
“One of them… I guess.” Haruko processed this for a second.
“Oh… Oh!” I nodded. “I thought that was a rumor.”
“Nope.” It was quiet for a second, and Haruko shifted to sit next to me.
“I’m really happy for you,” he told me. “I’m happy you have him and whoever the other one is. I’m glad you have real friends and not those fakes we used to have to pretend to like. I’m happy you’re happy.” I smiled at Haruko and gently took his hand before letting my head to fall to his shoulder.
“Do you think Ayame’s losing grip on her Quirk because she’s losing grip on herself?” I wondered aloud.
“Maybe. I can’t think of any other reason.” I stood and pulled Haruko to his feet.
“Let’s just go back,” I said. “Ayame probably knows you’re out of it, so I suggest you play along. Don’t let her think you’re gonna leave. I’ll get you out of there. I promise.” Haruko smiled and pulled me into a tight hug.
“Thank you so much, Hiva.” I slowly hugged him back.
“Of course. That’s what heroes do, right?” Haruko pulled away with an even wider smile.
“I knew you weren’t joining.”
“We’re going. Come on.”
---
There was so much going on. Maybe, not a lot going on, but it certainly felt overwhelming. “Oh, pops,” I sighed at the screen.
“We deeply apologize for the incident that allowed harm to come to 28 first years of the hero course because of our unpreparedness. We apologize for causing unease in society due to our negligence in properly defending ourselves as a place of learning. We are truly sorry.” Pops, Nezu, and Vlad bowed, and I turned to my cup, tuning out what was on the screen until it shut off.
“It’s so strange…” I looked beside me to Shigaraki. “Why are the heroes being criticized? The way they were dealing with things was just a little off the mark. Is it because it’s their job to protect? Everyone makes a mistake or two. Are they supposed to be perfect? Modern-day heroes are so uptight. Don’t you think, Hiva?” I shrugged.
“Certainly, seems it,” I agreed. “Something I’ve realized in the public eye is that everyone loves you, but no one likes you. The longer you have a spotlight on you, the easier it is to get uptight. Heroes need everyone to like them all the time.”
“Once heroes receive compensation to protect people,” Spinner spoke up, “they aren’t heroes anymore. That is Stain’s teaching.”
“Hey, cultist, when did I say anything that had to do with that?” I asked. “While Stain’s ideology is correct, in a sense, you get paid for everything since everything’s a job. It’s unavoidable.”
“The strange system of transforming people’s lives into money or glory… The society that sticks tight to those rules… the citizens who blame the losers rather than encourage them… Our fight is to question: What is a hero? What is justice? Is this society truly just? We’ll have everyone thinking about it. We’re planning on winning. You like winning, too, right?” I nodded. “Even though our situations differ, everyone here has been restricted and suffered because of people's rules… and heroes…”
“And I can understand that,” I stated. “Also, why I’ve asked you to drop the ones that restricted me. You’ve done everything else, practically bent over backwards. Why can’t you do this one thing?" I felt Ayame’s rage-filled eyes burn into the back of my head. “My guess: You don’t have as much power as you think.” Everyone was silent.
“Tomura, don’t listen to her,” Ayame ordered, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Can’t you hear her? She’s trying to manipulate you. Play you like a puppet.” I nodded.
“Yes,” I told him, “but it’s to open your eyes. Who do I sound like?”
“Ayame,” he muttered, pulling his shoulder from her grip.
“That’s what she does. She pretends to be your friend until you make a decision she doesn’t like. Shiggy, when was the last time you made an order without her whispering over your shoulder? How many times has she lashed out because you didn’t do what she wanted?”
“You, shut up!” Ayame screamed.
“Maybe like that?” I asked. “Shiggy, she’s the real puppet master. You’re not really in charge. She just wants you to think you are. People have noticed. Everyone has but you.” It stayed dead quiet. It was awkward with tension so thick a chainsaw couldn’t even cut through.
“Th-The heroes said they’re continuing their investigation of us… We don’t have time to talk leisurely. Sensei- Lend me your power.”
“Ah, I forgot. Everyone has you around their finger.” Shigaraki’s hand twitched at my words. “You just don’t know how to think for yourself.” Shigaraki took a step towards me but stopped when there was a knock at the door.
“Pizza-La, Camino store.” I tilted my head. All Might suddenly burst through the wall Spinner was leaning on with a loud shout.
“What the-!” I sighed at Spinner’s cry and rested my chin in my palm.
“Kurogiri! Gate!” Shigaraki ordered.
“Pre-emptive Binding…” the tree hero I couldn’t remember the name of right now swung in and trapped everyone, “... Lacquered Chain Prison!”
“A tree?” Dabi mumbled, blue flames starting to light over his body. “What the heck?” An old hero zipped in and kicked Dabi in the head to knock him out.
“Don’t be impatient. It’d be in your best interest to stay put.”
“Just what I’d expect from one of the most competent new heroes around, Kamui Woods! And the veteran faster than the eye can see, Gran Torino! You can’t run anymore, League of Villains! Why? Because we are here!” ‘All For One has to have a plan to get them out of this. I wasn’t expecting a rescue so fast. I can work around it. I can make this work.’
“Right after the press conference…” Compress muttered. “Don’t tell me this was pre-arranged?” ‘It has to be.”
“Tree man! Stop pulling me! Push!” Twice yelled while Toga wiggled and whined.
“When one is on the offensive is when one neglects defense the most,” Edgeshot stated as he appeared in the bar. “We’re not the only ones here from the Pizza-La Comino store.” He opened the door to show officers armed to the teeth. ‘Can’t believe I’m wishing for this, but All For One, get us outta here. I got shit to do.’ “Outside, you’re surrounded by skilled heroes, like Endeavor,” ‘a stretch.’, “and the police.”
“I’m sure you were scared.” I rolled my eyes at Uncle Nori. “You did good bearing it. I’m sorry. It’s fine now, Young Hiva!”
“I’ve been scarier places than a musty bar,” I replied. “I had everything under control.” All Might smiled and gave me a thumbs up before pulling me over and into his side. I noticed him eyeing Ayame, and she flipped him off, biting the air in his direction. “God damn! Did any of you bring a muzzle?”
“After I went through all that trouble to prepare this… Why are you coming to me, you last boss?” Shigaraki questioned. “It can’t be helped. ‘We’re not the only ones here.’ The same goes for us. Kurogiri, bring as many as you can over!”
“Nomus, I presume!” All Might shouted back.
“What’s the matter, Kurogiri?” ‘They destroyed it?’ I guessed.
“I’m sorry, Shigaraki Tomura. The Nomus that were supposed to be in the fixed location… are not there…!”
“Huh?"
“You are still green, Shigaraki.” I looked up at All Might when he patted my shoulder.
“Huh,” Shigaraki growled.
“League of Villains, you underestimated everything too much- The soul of a young woman-” ‘That’s a jump.’ “The diligent investigations of the police- And- Our anger! That’s enough with that childish pranks. This is the end. Shigaraki Tomura!”
“All Might… This is the hero acknowledged by Stain!” I squinted at Spinner. ‘You are really brainwashed, my guy.’
“The end, you say? Don’t be ridiculous. I’ve only just begun. Justice… peace… I’ll destroy this garbage heap that you put a lid on with such vague ideas!” Shigaraki struggled to stand as he spoke. “It was for that purpose that I set All Might apart and started gathering people to my cause. Don’t be ridiculous. This is the beginning. Kurogiri!” Edgeshot attacked Kurogiri before he could do anything!”
“No, stop!” Magne yelled. ‘After what All Might said, how can anyone be sure this is justice and not revenge?’ “I couldn’t see anything! What, did you kill him?”
“I played around with his insides and made him unconscious!” Edgeshot replied. “He is not dead. Ninpo-Thousand Sheet Pierce! This man was always a nuisance. I’ll have him sleep.”
“Didn’t I tell you earlier that it’d be in your best interest to stay put?” Gran Torino asked. “Hikiishi Kenji, Sako Atsuhiro, Iguchi Shuichi, Toga Himiko, Bubaigawara Jin. With little information and time, that police officers worked through the night to determine your true identities. Do you understand?” ‘Even if they manage to get away, they won’t be able to hide.’ “There’s nowhere left for you to run.” I looked towards the screen. ‘Where are you to help your protege?’ “Hey, Shigaraki, can I ask you where your boss is?”
“This… This is… unsatisfying… Don’t be ridiculous…”
“Where is he right now?” All Might tried.
“Go away… Disappear.”
“Shigaraki!”
“I hate you!” Things suddenly appeared on either side of Shigaraki, and Nomus started to climb through. ‘Finally!’
“Nomus?!” Woods cried. “They came from nowhere!” More appeared in the air. I began to cough, and the Quirk fell from my mouth. I tried to find an escape when it surrounded me but was just met with a handful of slime.
“Hiva!” All Might shouting was the last thing I heard from the bar.

My Hero before this
Third Person P.o.V
Hiva got to her feet and stumbled slightly. Izuku held his arms out to steady her, but she waved him away. "Hey!" She held her hand out to Kota when he stood, and he slowly took it. "I told you everything's okay." Hiva pulled him up and held him. "Let's head back to the camp." Izuku came over and held his arms out for Kota, and she glared at him. "Zuzu, do you think Mandalay's still in the clearing?" He nodded.
"We have to go. Based on what he said before you showed up, it sounds like they're after Kacchan." Hiva tilted her head, brain stalling for a second.
"Kacchan?" her eyes widened. "They're after Katsuki?" Izuku nodded, and Hiva hummed. "That doesn't fit. Not unless..." Hiva shook her head. "That doesn't matter right now. Let's get you somewhere safe."
"Actually, that Quirk of yours-" Hiva glared and pointed her hand toward the fire. A cloud appeared above it and started pouring, almost instantly putting the fire out.
"He's a child," she said. "We're taking him somewhere safe. He already saved us, and that's more than enough for today."
"I-"
"No," Hiva told Kota. "You've dealt with enough tonight." Izuku knelt in front of her.
"Get on my back," he ordered. "We need to get back to camp." Hiva did as told, wrapping an arm around his neck and keeping the other around Kota.
"Hold on, kiddo."
"Let's go! Hang on tight!"
---
"Hey, look!" Hiva looked where Kota did and patted Izuku's shoulder.
"Pops!"
"Sensei!" Izuku called after Hiva.
"Midori-" Shota stopped when he saw Hiva.
"Sensei..." Hiva smiled guiltily as she dropped from Izuku's back with Kota. "I'm glad... It's terrible! There are a ton of things I need to tell you."
"Hey-"
"First there's something I need to tell Mandalay-"
"I said 'Hey'!" Shota interrupted.
"Please take care of Kota and Hiva!"
"I'm fine!" Hiva groaned.
"That's endorphins, you idiot," Shota corrected with a flick to the back of her head.
"He has a water Quirk. You have to protect him!"
"I already said he's not putting out that fire!" Hiva yelled.
"Please!" Izuku exclaimed before running off.
"Wait, Midoriya!" Izuku stopped at Shota's voice. "Judging by Hiva's injuries and your lack thereof... you did it again, didn't you? Did you forget about what happened at Hosu? For uncertified individuals to cause injury with their Quirks without specific instruction from their guardians or supervisors is a clear violation of the rules."
"No, but..."
"Kota was in trouble," Hiva defended. "I was too. I probably would've died without him." Shota put his hand up to quiet her.
"So, tell Mandalay this..."
---
"Wh-What?!" Denki shouted when the blue flames froze in place.
"Hiva," Hanta sighed. A large explosion sent the villain crashing in and slamming into the wall.
"Hiva, I swear!" Shota yelled. His pounding feet could be heard getting closer, but besides that, the room was dead silent. A hand reached through the smoke and swiped it out of the way. Hiva stared down at Dabi with rage. Her eyes were black with smoke furling out of them, creating the shadow of a beast over her head that clearly wanted to crash down on Dabi.
"I'm pressed for time, so I'm gonna ask once. Where's Katsuki?" Shota stepped forward when Hiva started to tilt.
"Hiva, please just sit down." She shook her head at Shota.
"Copy or not, he can give me something." A black blade grew in her hand. "Where is he?" Dabi just smirked up at her.
"If you have to ask, it's already too late." Hiva nodded before stabbing the blade through his neck, watching him slowly turn to sludge. Hiva straightened up and stumbled into a desk. Hanta was closest and the first at her side.
"Aizawa's right," Hanta whispered. "Whoever this is, it isn't you. This person is quite scary, honestly. Now sit your ass down before you get yourself even more hurt."
"You said you trusted me with everything," Hiva mumbled. "Trust that I know what I'm walking into. Besides, you wanted me to want your help. Help me."
"Hiva, what's going on?" Denki asked. Hiva waved a hand at him, and Hanta pushed her to her feet.
"It's nothing." She coughed and made her way to the door. Shota didn't move a muscle. "Pops, please?" He shook his head, and Hiva waved her hands at Vlad, knocking away any attack he was about to use.
"Watch it," Shota hissed with a warning glare in Vlad's direction.
"We have to do what we have to to keep our students safe," Vlad defended. "She can either give in or be forced." Shota shook his head.
"Come on, kiddo. What are you trying to do?"
"Make a trade," she answered honestly. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to talk to Shigaraki." Hiva walked past Shota, but he grabbed her arm and pushed her back in front of him.
"Shigaraki can't be reasoned with. It'll just get you added to the list with Bakugo."
"No one can say no to what they want," Hiva replied. "I'm going."
"You lied to me. You said you didn't know what student they were targeting, but it was you." Hiva nodded.
"Yeah, it was me." Shota looked behind Hiva to Eijiro, trusting him to be more gentle than Vlad.
"Then I'm sorry, kiddo." Hanta moved without thinking, taping Eijiro and pulling him down to the floor.
"Go!" Shota's eyes glowed with Hiva's, and she had him floating out of her way instantly. She ran from the classroom, and Shota tried to follow, just to run right into air and stumble back with a hand on his forehead. Hiva slowed to a stop at Shota's shouting and pounding on the barrier in front of him.
"W-Wait!" Kota ran up to her. "You were asleep when he brought us here." 'I was?' "I-I never said-" He stopped when Hiva put a finger to her lips.
"Tell me when I get back."
"But-"
"Hey, if I say you'll get the chance when I come back, it means I'm gonna come back." Kota slowly lifted his pinkie, and Hiva smiled as she wrapped hers around his and shook. "Promise." Hiva ran backward down the hallway. "You're a really cool kid. It was great meeting you." She turned forward and sped up.
---
"Took you long enough," Hiva muttered as she pushed off the tree. Tomura rolled his eyes.
"What do you want?"
"A trade. Me for Katsuki, the safety of everyone in this forest, and you drop Ayame, Kai, and Yuuma." Tomura seemed to twitch behind the hand on its face. "It seems unfair, but it really isn't." Tomura looked skeptical. "We're both desperate, and this lets us both get what we want, right?" Hiva stuck her hand out. "It's a limited-time offer." Hiva tilted her head at Tomura. "Going once. Going twice." Hiva held up two fingers. "Come on, Shiggy. One more chance. What do you say?"
---
"Why would you do that?!" Denki yelled as he pushed Hanta. Tenya was quick to get between them, watching the black-haired boy with disappointment. Eijiro had long been free from his tape prison.
"She asked me to help her, and I did," Hanta answered calmly. "She asked me to trust her, and I did. I won't apologize for that!" Eijiro stepped in front of Denki when he took a step forward, and Tenya held a hand out at Hanta when he raised his voice. Shota had given up on trying to break out.
"So, she told you about all of this and not me?" Denki questioned.
"She didn't want to worry you," Hanta replied. "Like always, she was looking out for you and everyone else."
"Um, sensei?"
"What?" Shota snapped, turning from the phone he'd been trying to call Hizashi on to Mina.
"Everyone's here. They're here, and they look fine." Shota turned from the students starting out the window to the space in front of him, hanging up on Hizashi, who had finally answered. He reached his hand out, and it just waved through the air, so he ran out of the classroom. Outside, all the students and the Pussycats, minus Ragdoll, were there and unharmed. Those unconscious from the gas were now sitting up, slightly confused by their new soundings.
"Hiva!" Izuku fell to his knees, and Shoto reached forward like he wanted to be comforting but didn't know what to do. Katsuki was in a silent rage, nails practically digging into the skin of his palms.
"Damn it, Hiva. What were you thinking?"
"Aizawa!" Shota ignored Mandalay's call, running through the group and into the forest.
"Hiva!" he screamed. "Hiva!" He turned around in a circle, praying that she would step out of the shadows and into his line of sight but knowing it wasn't worth it. "No. No, no, no, no. Come on, kid." Shota flinched at the buzzing device in his hand and answered it.
"Shota, what the hell is going on?" Hizashi asked. "You blow up my phone and then hang up when I finally get the chance to answer?"
"She's gone." It was silent. "Hiva's gone. I... I don't..."
"What do you mean by 'she's gone', Shota?" Shota finally noticed the tears sliding down his face.
"It's my fault."

My Hero
Kota before this
"Why...? Why are there villains here?!" Mineta cried.
"Hiva!" I heard what sounded like Izuku running forward, but his steps stopped. I yelped when the ground under me moved, taking me away to behind Tiger and Mandalay.
"Oh, no!" I turned to Mandalay, and Izuku did the same. He gasped.
"Kota-kun!"
"Shit!" Aza shrunk back to her original form and floated back to me. My nose twitched at the sudden smell of rotting lavender that practically punched me in the nose. "Pops."
"Shin-" I ignored Mandalay's voice and poofed away to the camp. I got there in time to see the blue flames rush forward and held my hand out. Black smoke wrapped around the flames, suffocating them into disappearance.
"Oh, you." I relaxed when I saw that pops had already gotten out of the way. "I see we already got a good hit in." I forced a smile as black flames circled my hand. They shot towards him, and a pile of sludge was the only remainder.
"Hiva!" I looked up at pops as he dropped from the building. "What are you doing?" His eyes widened, and he put a gentle hand on my head. "It sounds like this only just started. How are you already bleeding?" Pops wiped some of the blood away, and I hummed.
"Sorry, I thought it was just a scratch." I backed away when he tried to put an arm around my shoulders. "Is Kota here?"
"No, here's not."
"Then I have to find him." Pops grabbed my arm when I turned away. "Oh, right, I'm pretty sure they're targeting students I just don't know which ones."
"Then I need you inside." I shook my head. "No, I have to bring you inside." I pulled my arm away. "You knew I'd do this. Why did you come here?"
"Because I knew you were in trouble."
"I'm a hero, Hiva. I had it handled."
"Well, last time, you didn't." Pops stopped and let go.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm not saying you're less of a hero, but the last time I saw you in trouble and didn't do anything, you got mummied." Pops frowned, and I could tell he didn't know what to say.
"Go find him." I hummed in surprise. "You can use your Quirk. Just get there and back."
"Thank you." I backed away as I spoke. "I'll be back in a minute." I jumped into the air and flew toward the mountain. 'That's a big guy.' I thought when I saw the man that I didn't recognize.
"Kids are always shifting the blame like that." I landed and punched him in the face in the process. I kicked him, and he flew back into the mountain.
"I probably should've asked, but he is bad, right?" I checked. Kota nodded quickly. "Okay, good. That means you should probably get out of here." I turned and noticed Izuku, so I grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him to his feet. He stumbled into me, and I patted his shoulder. "You should go too."
"I'm not leaving you alone."
"I won't be alone. I'll have this guy to keep me company." I heard the rocks shift and turned back to the villain. "Is that fucking Muscular?!"
"It's rude to interrupt." I put my arm up to block his punch and groaned at the crack and the feeling of my feet leaving the ground. My shoulder hit the ground first, and I rolled to my feet.
"Yup, Muscular," I grunted.
"As I was saying, kids are always shifting the blame like that. That's no good. It's not like I have a grudge about this eye or anything, you know. I just wanted to kill. And those two wanted to stop me." 'Kota's parents.' I looked over at Kota and back to Muscular. "It was the result of all of us doing what we wanted. What's wrong is wanting to do something you are unable to do. Like you're mommy and daddy!" I heard Izuku jump through the air, and I did the same. "Which means you're coming, now aren't you, you piece of trash!"
"You're the one who's wrong!" Izuku shouted. Both of us got our hands stuck in the muscle, me when I punched his chest and Izuku when he punched his shoulder. "I got him! Now it doesn't matter how fast he is!"
"And then what? You gonna punch me with that weak arm of yours?"
"It's no matter of whether or not I can do it! A hero's job... is to risk his life to make the lip service into reality! Hiva!"
"Aza!" I could feel Aza's hesitance, but the power in my arm was enough to make it burn. I brought my other fist back and punched him in the chest again. My vision got blocked by the rubble in the air, and I got forced back. I almost collided with Kota but wrapped my arm around him to keep him from getting hurt. We went over the edge, and he whimpered. "I gotcha!" He looked up and noticed that I had grabbed the ledge. "I'm not letting you fall." He whimpered again when black smoke wrapped around him. "Hey, it's okay. It's my Quirk." He relaxed while being carried up, and I pulled myself up after him.
"Sorry..." Izuku groaned, "... for blowing you away, too..." I helped Izuku up when I stood myself.
"Are you okay?" He nodded.
"Are you?" I nodded.
"Th-Thank-" Kota stopped when he noticed Izuku's injury.
"Hey, it's okay," I assured. Aza left my palm and wrapped around Izuku. I winced at the sudden pain, and Izuku made an experimental fist. "He's okay." Izuku gave me a worried look.
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
"Hi-"
"Nothing," I repeated. Izuku nodded.
"Let's get back to camp... It's not far from here..." I turned to the sudden crash.
"Now that's just unfair," I whined. I held my hand out, and Aza sunk into my palm.
"Those punches were too obvious. But that wasn't bad, Midoriya!" The villain looked at me. "You might want to step back, princess."
"Princess?" I growled.
"G-Get away!" Izuku ordered. A black cloud appeared under Kota and lifted him into the air. I stomped the ground and sent every piece of stone toward him. "Hiva, don't!" I ran forward and landed hit after hit until a hand grabbed the back of my head.
"I said stay out of the way!" Muscular slammed my head into the ground and lifted me to do it again.
"Get away from her!" Izuku tried to jump forward but got stopped by my Quirk. I melted from Muscular's grip and rose from Izuku's shadow.
"Lots of head injuries today," I grumbled. "Sorry, I got ahead of myself."
"You won't be able to overwhelm him."
"Wow, I never would've guessed." Muscular started to step forward, and I pushed Izuku's arm down when he tried to act as a shield.
"Get away!" he shouted again.
"Naw, I feel like attacking now, all of a sudden."
"Wh-What are you trying to do? What's the League of Villains after?" Izuku questioned.
"How should I know? I just want to fight. As long as I can stretch my wings and unleash my Quirk, I don't care. Do you remember? Up until just now, we were just playing. I said so, didn't I? 'Let's play'? Right? I said! But I'm done. Playtime's over. 'Cause you're pretty strong. Now, I'm gonna look at you seriously." Muscle wrapped around the villain, and Izuku put an arm around me before jumping out of the way.
"Oh, thanks." Muscular turned and launched himself towards us again. Izuku leaped away again, and I put a shield around us so he wouldn't get hurt by the force the wind would cause. "I'd say our only chance is to run, but I'm not a fan of that." I ignored Izuku's shout and broke away from him. "Aza," I landed in a crouched position, and Aza floated from my palm, "I need more." Aza shook its head, and I looked from it to where Muscular had gotten himself stuck. "Aza, I know, but I need more power available." I jumped away from the now free villain. "Aza, please!" Aza sunk into my palm, and I grunted at the flash of pain. I sighed at the cracks climbing up my skin. "Pops is gonna kill me." I swept a hand through the air, and Muscular was pushed back through the rock. My arm shook, and I struggled to catch my breath.
"Hiva..."
"Izuku, I'm gonna send you back with Kota."
"No!"
"We're not fighting over this!"
"No, I'm not leaving you!" I looked at Izuku. "Friends don't leave each other!"
"You sound like Hanta," I mumbled.
"Hiva!" I turned to Muscular and was thrown back over the edge by the sudden force of his punch. I slowed to a stop and floated back to the top.
"That was ribs," I groaned.
"You're pretty sturdy, princess."
"I very badly want to stab this guy."
"Killing him would bring you down to his level." I huffed at Izuku.
"Fine." Black smoke wrapped around Izuku, and Muscular was up in flames. I lunged forward with Izuku, trying to push him back with our strength, only to get forced down to the ground. "This isn't working as well as I thought." I was hoping to burn some of the muscle away to give us an advantage, but the fire started to fade, and so did the smoke surrounding Izuku as we got pushed further into the ground. The light from Izuku's Quirk started to dim. 'No matter what happens, Kota should be okay.'
"Always get back up. Even if you think you can't." I groaned as I tried to move my arm, but it suddenly went numb and fell to my side. 'Sorry, pops.' I heard the splash of water and hummed.
"What, water?"
"Sto... Stop it...!" 'How did he get back down?' I wondered. 'Get out of here, Kota!'
"Later, 'kay? 'Kay? I'll kill you later, so just wait-" I used my other arm to push up, black starting at my fingertips and running down my arm. Izuku's arm raised with mine, the glowing lines tracing over him like lightning.
"As if..." Izuku growled.
"Wait, are you getting stronger?"
"... we'd let you kill him!" Izuku shouted. I brought my other fist back with him. "One For All, 1,000,000%!" My arm exploded in a puff of smoke and came back into the outline of the limb. "Delaware... Detroit... Smash!" Out fists met Muscular, mine connecting with his neck and Izuku's with his face. He flew back into the mountain, and Izuku straightened up. I watched my hand return to normal and laid it on Izuku's shoulder. His injuries faded away and appeared on me.
"Are you okay, Izuku?"
"I am." I looked over at the villain and sighed.
"I feel like that shouldn't have taken so long." I turned to Kota and frowned at the tears in his eyes as I knelt in front of him. "I know it doesn't look like it, but everything's okay now." Kota's hand reached out to me but quickly drew away. "I'll be perfect by tomorrow." I held my pinkie out to him.
"I'm not a baby," he mumbled with a sniff.
"Me neither, but I still make pinkie promises." He looked away and slowly linked his pinkie with mine. Any cuts or bruises on his body disappeared and reappeared on mine. "You're safe now."

Kota
Wild, Wild Pussycats before this
Third Person P.o.V
"Are you sure this will work?"
"You said you thought you needed a blank mind," Shota said. "We're blocking out as many senses as possible to keep the distractions as few as possible."
"That seems like not a good idea," Hiva said as she put the nose clip on anyway.
"You have this area of the forest memorized, right?" Shota asked. "I want it up in flames."
"Pardon?" Hiva put her earplugs in.
"You heard me." Hiva sighed as she put her headphones over the earplugs.
"There's no music!" she yelled when Shota opened his mouth. She slipped the blindfold between her head and headphones and tied it tight. She felt Aza sink into her hand, and Shota stepped back to watch the black flames form beside her. They shot up into the air, and he put his arms in front of his face like it would block him from the sudden rush of heat. He went to the edge of the area assigned and watched the fire rain down. It seemed like an invisible wall was keeping the flames from spreading. Shota could see them push against it. He returned to the center where Hiva was and sighed at the cracks going up her arms. He pulled the blindfold away to make a 'cut it out' motion, and the fire disappeared, leaving nothing, not even a singed twig behind.
"It's better than before," Shota told her after she pulled her headphones off. "It's still injuring you, though." Hiva sighed and nodded. "I want you to try again." Hiva nodded again at his muffled voice and put the headphones back on.
---Hiva's P.o.V
"Now, remember what I said yesterday?" Pixie-Bob asked. "'Today's the only day we'll be doing stuff for you'!"
"At least make your own food!" Ragdoll added. "Curry!"
"Yessir," everyone mumbled. Ragdoll giggled.
"You all look exhausted! But that doesn't mean you can make any old sloppy cat food!"
"It's true that part of rescuing someone is filling the stomachs and spirits of those exhausted during disaster," Iida said. "That's U.A. for you! No opportunity wasted! Let's make the most delicious curry in the world, everyone!"
"Okay..." everyone grumbled.
"You're taking this too seriously," I whined as I stepped to the front. "We've had a hard day of training. We deserve to have some fun, so don't stress it." I lightly punched Iida's shoulder. "Would ya loosen up?"
---
I tossed the knife in the air and caught the handle to twirl it. I forced a smile at the look on Tokage's face and started chopping. "Show off."
"I said have fun," I defended.
"Obviously, you're skilled with a knife," she continued. "What else can you do?"
"You're very aware," I replied. "Don't start acting chummy with me, Kai." Kai sighed and leaned on the counter.
"How could you tell?"
"Blueberries." Kai laughed, and I shook my head. "Considering I want to be on Shigaraki's good side, I won't sell you out. Come near again though, and I'm gonna rethink that." I grabbed the chopping board to walk away but turned back to him. "Oh, and if you're gonna make Shinso turn you into someone else, at least act like them." I dropped my cutting board off at Mina's station and wiped the sweat from my forehead. I leaned on the counter and used a hand to unbutton my flannel.
"Hot?" I nodded at Mina.
"I've been literally playing with fire all day, and it's summer. Not a fun mix." I pulled the clothing off and wrapped it around my waist before straightening my tank top.
"Why must you hide from me?" Mina teased with a playful poke to my bicep. I laughed and pushed her away. "That's probably why Class B's been staring at you." I looked over the class, and a collection of eyes flicked away. "They've all been checking you out."
"Monoma too?" I asked.
"He stole a couple glances. Why?"
"So, I can make fun of him later." 'This has Ayame written all over it. What's she doing warning me?' I groaned and fanned my face. "How are you not dying?! I feel like I'm melting." Mina laughed when I threw myself at her. I yelped when she let go of me and hit the ground with an 'oof'. I squeaked at the new arms that lifted me into the air. I looked up at Denki and crossed my arms. Release me!" I squealed and threw my arms around his neck when he pretended to drop me. He put me on my feet.
"Hi." I chuckled and moved my face back when he tried to rub his nose against mine.
"I'm disgusting. Do NOT!" His nose bumped mine anyway when he traded the Eskimo kiss for a real one.
"You're sticky."
"I told you I was disgusting."
---
"Thanks for the food!" everyone shouted. I watched the tables from the side with a smile and turned to see Kota watching from a distance. I watched him turn and walk away and decided to follow him to his destination. That destination turned out to be the top of a mountain. He sat, and I laughed when I heard his stomach.
"Hey, kiddo. You're rumbling." He turned to me with a glare, and I put my free hand up in surrender. "Chill. I won't stick around if you don't want me to. I just came to bring you food." I nodded at the bowl of curry in my hand. "It could be better, but it's edible. If you want, I'm sure I could sneak you something else." His glare faded for a second and then turned behind me. Izuku stopped at my side.
"You...! How'd you find this place?"
"I followed you," I replied.
"And I followed Veeves," Izuku stated. I went up to Kota, and Izuku followed.
"You want food, or are you gonna starve?" I questioned.
"Veeves!" I waved Izuku away.
"I'm fine. I don't need any. I told you, didn't I? I don't intend to hang out with you. With either of you. Get out of my secret hideout!"
"A secret hideout, huh?" Izuku said.
"This is the perfect hideout," I told him. "Never could've found it on my own." Kota kept his gaze away from us.
"Getting all into trying to improve your Quirk. It's gross. You want to show off your power that badly?" I nodded as I sat beside where he was before we showed up.
"I can understand that." I put the bowl down as I spoke and looked back at Kota. "It's not about showing off for us, though. We really want to improve. Personally, I've had trouble with my Quirk, so I'm trying to do the best I can." Kota didn't seem to like that answer, but it made me realize something.
"Your parents... Could they be Water Hose?" Izuku asked. "With the water Quirks?"
"Did Mandalay tell you?!"
"Oh, no, um, uh..." I sighed at Izuku's stuttering. "Sorry! Yeah, we kind of ended up hearing about it, and based on the information I got, thought maybe..."
"We took a guess," I finished. "Turns out we were right."
"It was an unfortunate incident. I remember it," Izuku added.
"Shut up," Kota ordered. "Everyone's crazy... Calling each other stupid names like 'hero' and 'villain' and killing each other... Talking about Quirks and stuff. It's because they're all showing off that it ended up like that... Stupid..."
"I get what you mean," I said. "All of this is pretty stupid of you see it that way." Izuku gave me a weird look. "I hope that one day when you're older, someone will be able to explain what happened better. Maybe you'll be able to see this society like we do." I stood up and stretched with a groan.
"What is it? If there's nothing else, then go away!" I nodded at Kota.
"Well, um... my uh... friend... My friend... couldn't inherit any Quirks from his parents."
"Huh?" I smiled at Kota's confusion and looked at Izuku.
"It's a hereditary thing, and apparently, it's rare but does happen... But he admired heroes and wanted to become one, but you can't be one these days without a Quirk... My friend couldn't accept that for a long time and practiced... Trying to draw objects to him and breathe fire... But it was no good. There are a lot of different ways to think about Quirks, so I don't know if this'll apply to everyone, but if you reject it that much, then it'll just make it more painful for you. Um, so..."
"Just shut up!" Kota yelled. "Get out of here!"
"Sorry, I'm just rambling," Izuku apologized.
"We just wanted to help," I spoke up. "We're not trying to change your opinion, everyone's allowed their own. I just... There's a lot of anger and sadness building up in you, and we're just trying to keep it from hurting you."
"Leave!" I turned Izuku around and pushed him to go first.
"Right, sorry!" I waved to Kota. "Oh, and thanks for the help, by the way." We walked down the mountain. "Do you think we helped at all?"
"I don't know," Izuku answered. "I hope so." He stopped me. "Why did you thank him?"
"Oh, he made me realize something about my Quirk," I replied. Izuku looked like he wanted me to explain. "Just need to communicate."
---
"Hiva." I yelped at pop's voice and fell. I felt his capture weapon wrap around me, and he pulled me towards him. He put an arm behind me and pushed me back up to my feet.
"Thanks." He nodded.
"You're already doing better than yesterday. What did you do? You changed something."
"I thought the problem was getting caught in my head, but it was a lack of trust."
"Explain."
"I didn't trust Aza, and Aza didn't trust me to use it correctly."
"How'd you fix it?"
"I thought it just appeared, but I think I made Aza." Aza climbed from my hand and waved to pops. "It's easier to work with something that can communicate back." Pops nodded. "We found a balance."
"And that is?"
"Aza's only worry seems to be my safety. It's worried about me getting hurt, and I don't really like feeling out of control. It's letting me fight and do what I want, and Aza just wants to control how much of the power I'm using." Pops nodded.
"Show me," he ordered. "You know your area." I nodded as Aza sunk back into my palm. I waved my hand in front of me, and the perimeter was up in black flames, crawling closer and closer to the center. It pushed against an invisible wall, trying to break through to get to us. Pops watched my arms, and his eyes rose to my neck. He nodded at the lack of injury, and I closed my fist to make the fire disappear. "Good." He turned away. "Let's waste no time. I'm asking Pixie-Bob to make her earth beasts for you to fight. Don't move from that spot and only use your Quirk."
"Yes, sir!" I gave his back a dramatic salute.
---
"Hello!" I squeaked at Denki's voice, and he laughed at me. I lightly shoved his shoulder, and he grabbed my hand. "Surprise or not, you don't usually jump like that. You okay, sweetness?" I smiled a little, and he kissed my forehead. "I love that smile." I tilted my head at him.
"You're being extra affectionate," I pointed out. "What's up with you?"
"No, no. I asked first." I sighed.
"I guess the test of courage is just making me nervous." Denki nodded, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder.
"I'll protect you." I laughed and turned with my arms crossed.
"I appreciate it, but I think I'm capable of protecting myself." I lightly flicked his nose, and he huffed.
"'M just saying," he mumbled. I patted his chest and gave him a gentle push so I could go back to chopping veggies.
"Your turn? What's up with you, pretty boy?" Denki sighed and shrugged.
"Don't know. I guess I'm just missing you." I gave him a confused look.
"I'm right here...?"
"I know, but we've barely talked this entire trip. We talk every day."
"We're both busy."
"Still," he grumbled. I sighed and turned to him. The rotting leaves smell showed that he was lying but I brushed it off.
"Okay, I wanted to talk to you after the trip," I told him. "So, we'll make up for it when we're back." Denki smirked.
"Make up for it?" I pushed his face away.
"Not like whatever you're thinking," I replied. "Keep that to yourself." Denki chuckled and kissed my cheek.
"I'm just messing with you." He gave me a confused look. "Wait, talk about what?"
"Just stuff."
"That didn't help!"
---
"Now, we've filled our bellies and washed the dishes!" Pixie-Bob began. "Next..."
"... it's time for the test of courage!" Mina finished.
"We're gonna test it!" Denki, Hanta, Kirishima, and Sato added.
"Before that, it pains me to say this, but the extra lessons group will be having class with me now." I huffed at pop's words.
"Well, that sucks," I muttered from where I was leaning on Katsuki.
"Those idiots brought it on themselves," Katsuki replied. He stepped to the side, and I stumbled.
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Mina yelled.
"Sorry," pops apologized. "Your training during the day wasn't good enough, so I have to use this time. Give me a break!"
"Let us be tested!" they shouted while being pulled away.
"Okay, so Class B will be the first to be scarers," Pixie-Bob explained. "Class A will leave in pairs every three minutes. There are tags with your names written on them in the middle of the route so bring those back with you. Those being the scarers aren't allowed to make direct contact. Show us how scary you are with your Quirks."
"The class that makes the most people piss their pants with creativity and imagination wins!" Tiger finished.
"Stop it. That's filthy," Kyoka said.
"I see. They're trying to make us refine our ideas by making us compete with each other, giving us more options for our Quirks in the process! As expected of U.A.!"
"I think you're overthinking it," I told Iida.
"Now, you'll draw lots to determine your partners!" Pixie-Bob announced. I took my slip of paper and smiled. I fell into the shadows and appeared behind Izuku.
"Boo!" He jumped with a small scream, and I threw an arm around his shoulders. "Looks like you're my partner, Zuzu!" His face fell, and I laughed. "I won't scare you on the trail." He smiled at me, and I shook him a bit.
---
"Hey, does anyone else smell that?" I asked. "I don't know if I'm still just smelling the wood from the stove." I saw the smoke in the distance. "Yeah, that's not the stove." I noticed the blue embers in the sky. "That's Dabi."
"Pixie-Bob!" I turned to see her fly back, and I jumped forward. I wrapped my arms around her, and she stopped floating. I put her on the ground and turned to the two villains.
"Those pet cats are in the way," one villain said. I yelped at the sudden weightlessness I felt and groaned at the hit to the head. It was hard enough to knock my feet out from under me and make my vision go black for a second. "So is she." Aza grew into one of Pixie-Bob's beasts and huffed out breaths.
"Aza, no!" Despite that, Aza lifted its hand anyway to threaten the villains. "If the Quirk has a mind of its own, does that count as unlawful use? Is there a loophole here?"
"Now isn't the time for jokes!" Mineta panicked. I pushed myself to my feet and slightly wobbled while wiping the blood from my head.
"Isn't it?" I glared at the villain that smashed my head into the ground. "It was lucky it was me you hit. Anyone else would've been down for the count."

Mission
Talking before this
"Kaminari, upstairs. You, here."
"You could at least start with a hello," Hiva mumbled in response to Shota's order as she closed the door behind them.
"What's going on?" Denki asked.
"Upstairs with Sero," Shota replied. Denki just nodded and made his way up.
"Is this about me being back late?" Hiva questioned. "I am sorry about that. We just lost track of time."
"Yuuma." Hiva tilted her head at the name. "Yuuma Shinsou." Hiva slowly shook her head as Hitoshi came down the stairs.
"You said you'd explain when Hiva was here," he said as he stopped at her side. "What's the big deal?"
"Wait, is he that guy from the mall?" Hizashi nodded at Hiva.
"Yes, and he is not safe," he told them. Hiva raised an eyebrow as if to give a sarcastic 'really?'
"Looking back at it, the only real thing I remember is him giving off some really weird vibes." Hiva tilted her head at Hitoshi.
"You met him?" Hitoshi gave her a confused look as Hizashi led them and Shota to the kitchen.
"We both did. He would sometimes visit when we were still going to Ayame's." Hiva hummed.
"I don't remember that." Both teens sat down as Hizashi spoke up.
"Listen, he's not a good person. He's worse than Ayame, and that's a nice way of putting it." Hiva looked skeptical, but Hitoshi nodded. "After what happened at the mall, he was behind bars, of course, but he just got out. He just disappeared."
"So what? Do you think he's gonna try and find Hanta?" Hiva questioned.
"Hiva would kill him if that was the plan," Hitoshi added. "All we'd need to worry about are visiting hours."
"That's part of the problem," Shota told them. "We talked to Sero..." Hiva sent him a glare. "Relax, we didn't force it out of him or anything." Hiva's glare fell. "Yuuma was apparently asking him about you. He wanted to know your weakness, and he got it."
"What? Me?" Hiva guessed. "As far as I can tell, I'm the entire problem."
"No, but yes," Shota answered. "It's your heart. You jumped right in to save him with no hesitation. We all know you'd do it again for anyone you care about and he's gonna know it. He might already know it. He's going to prey on that to get to you."
"Does that mean he's working with the league?" Hiva asked without thinking.
"How would that connect him to the league?" Hitoshi wondered aloud. Hiva shrugged.
"You said he just disappeared, right? What about that warp gate guy? He coulda helped him."
"We can't just jump to conclusions," Shota told her. "Besides, it's unlikely he'd associate himself with anything involving Ayame."
"Why?"
"They don't get along, never really have," Hizashi answered. "Hitoshi, are you sure you met him?" Hitoshi nodded.
"Yeah. I remember them fighting over Hiva a lot." Even though his expression didn't change, Hiva knew that worried Hizashi because of the burnt coffee smell. "She didn't like how often he tried to hang out with her."
"How do you remember this guy and I don't?" Hiva muttered. "Anyway, unlikely doesn't mean impossible. We can't pretend it's not a possibility."
"No, there is no 'we'," Hizashi told her. "We're warning you, not giving you permission to get involved."
"I feel like I'm pretty involved," Hiva replied.
"You are not to go looking for him, but if you happen to run into him, you cannot let him touch you." Hiva and Hitoshi shared a curious look.
"He can change anything he touches," Shota explained. Hiva's mind started running immediately.
"I can hear the gears in your head turning," Hitoshi said as Hiva opened her notebook to a new page and clicked her pen. Hitoshi scooted closer to her to watch her scribble on the paper. "I'm mad that this makes sense."
"You said I need to bring my information to reliable heroes," Hiva told Shota. "You're reliable heroes, and that gave me a thought if you care to hear it."
"Fine," Shota agreed. Hizashi glared at him as he moved closer to look at her writing.
"Check me." Hitoshi pulled out his phone, ready to fact-check anything she said. "Dabi's flames are blue, meaning they're between 1,427 and 1,960 degrees Celsius. It takes 982 to cremate a body and about two to three hours for a regular-sized person." She looked to Hitoshi, who was frantically typing.
"You talk too damn fast," Hitoshi grumbled.
"That sounds right," Denki confirmed. All eyes turned to the window that looked out into the dining room, and Denki and Hanta slowly rose from where they were crouched under it with guilty smiles and slow waves.
"We got curious," Hanta defended.
"That killed a cat, you know," Shota mumbled.
"And satisfaction brought it back," Hiva finished as she beckoned them over. "How'd you know that?"
"I thought I could help you if I knew more about what happened, but it didn't really make sense to me," Denki answered. "I mean, I usually think things don't make sense, but this was something even I should've understood if it was meant to be understood." Hiva nodded as they both stopped behind her chair.
"You're smart," Hiva complimented with a smile. "More than you realize." Denki smiled proudly. "Anyway, the fire was burning for less than fifteen minutes, and the explosion went off on the holding cells' opposite side. No one there had anything more than minor burns. I know for a fact that there was no one else in that building, so it makes no sense for Ayame or Kai to have died how they did unless it happened before or it was fake. I bet it was faked. A cover to get them out."
"And Shinsou can change anything by touching it," Hanta began, "so the bodies they found could've been fake."
"That's all circumstantial," Hizashi pointed out.
"Even so, it all makes sense," Hiva argued. Shota nodded slowly in agreement.
"Besides the fact that we can't do anything without concrete evidence, Yuuma can't change DNA," he told her.
"It was never confirmed!" Denki exclaimed after a few seconds of silence. "Sorry, that was loud."
"They were the only two unaccounted for." Denki nodded at Hizashi.
"Yeah, but the bodies were never publicly identified," he replied. "At least, not that I can remember." Hiva nodded slowly.
"You're right."
"They could be alive," Hitoshi continued. "If they are, they could easily keep it hidden." Shota hummed and folded his hands.
"You cannot seriously be entertaining this!" Hizashi cried.
"When has Hiva ever been wrong?" Shota questioned. "She's got a supercomputer for a brain. And the reasoning is sound." Hizashi shook his head, and the twins quickly stood to escape the upcoming argument. Hiva beckoned to the boys, and they followed.
"I think that made sense," Hiva mumbled.
"It did," Hanta agreed. Hiva sighed.
"Whatever," she groaned. She opened her door and let Denki and Hanta step in first. She looked to Hitoshi, and he nodded. The two would be talking more later, and they knew it. Hiva walked into her room and sent a comforting smile to Hanta. Now that she knew Yuuma had been "asking" him questions, she could guess why there had been such a painful Quirk involved. "I'm sorry about what happened at the mall. I didn't want to ask because I knew it was a lot, but I didn't realize how a lot." Hanta chuckled at her wording.
"I'm sorry I didn't handle myself better." Hiva frowned and patted his shoulder as she sat on the side that wasn't taken by Denki.
"You're doing what that one does," Hiva told him with a finger pointing at Denki. Denki smiled bashfully at that.
"I know I am."
"Doesn't change the fact that it still gets to you," Denki said. Hanta nodded. Denki lightly shoved his shoulder, and Hanta pushed him back. Hiva fell back on her bed and put her hands over her face.
"I don't know if I'm tired or not," she muttered. Hanta flopped beside her, and Denki followed. "What's the plan here? I'm not kicking you out, just curious." Both shrugged. "I don't really care either way. You can stay until we leave for camp for all I care."
"And your parents?" Hanta asked.
"They don't either. Everyone's welcome anytime for however long they want or need." Denki smiled at that as Hiva sat up with a groan.
"I don't know where Aza went. I'm gonna find it and make sure the cats aren't hunting it." Hiva stood with her notebook and left the room. She first stopped at Hitoshi's door and opened it. "Do me a favor?" Hitoshi nodded. "I need a fresh pair of eyes." Hitoshi sighed and held his hand out, marker already uncapped and ready to write on the large pad of paper hanging on his wall. Hiva tossed the notebook to him, and he easily caught it. "Thanks. Oh, just a warning. You're not gonna like all the stuff that's written there." Hitoshi sent her a weird look and opened the book to the first page. He opened his mouth to say something, but Hiva was already closing the door. "Thanks again. Bye!" She sighed and went to look for Aza.
---
"It's late," Hiva yawned as she ran a hand through Denki's hair.
"Hiva calling a reasonable bedtime late?" Denki teased.
"Who are you?" Hanta whispered.
"Are you staying or not?" Hiva asked. "No one has to get couched since we got air mattresses, and I've been wanting to play with them." Denki rolled off from where he was sprawled over the other two's laps, and both lurched forward to pull him back so he wouldn't hit the ground.
"Sure," the guys answered. Hiva held Denki up and let him drop back on the mattress once she was out from under him.
"My mom already assumed I'd be staying anyway," Hanta stated as Denki pulled out his phone to text his mom.
"Did she say that, or did you do some assuming on your own?" Hiva asked as Denki gave her a thumbs up.
"She said, 'pack a bag for when you lose track of time.' Somehow it's ten." Hiva chuckled.
"I'm guessing you got stuff, but Denks, you don't, so just grab something from the first drawer in there. That's where my pajamas are."
"I don't think any of your stuff would fit me," Denki pointed out.
"More than half the stuff in there is Hitoshi, dad, or pop's stuff. I've just been asking to make sure they didn't mind me lending out their clothes, but they don't care anymore." Hiva walked off to grab an air mattress, and Denki stood to grab some clothes. She came back a second later with the mattress and sheets floating behind her with the instructions. "Okay, this is ridiculous. How many words does a person need to tell them how an air mattress works." She tried to throw the instructions out of her way, but they just floated into her head and to the ground. She glared at them before laying out the mattress. Hanta stayed seated as she plugged the mattress in and flipped the switch. She made sure the cap was on tight and sat back to watch it fill with air.
"Are you actually entertained by this?" Hanta questioned.
"Are you actually entertained by watching me watch an air mattress fill?" Hiva shot back, still focused on the mattress.
"Touché."
---
"None of this makes any sense," Hanta heard Hiva say. He sighed, deciding he might as well give up on sleep since all he was doing was drifting in and out of consciousness. He sat up from the blow-up mattress and looked toward Hiva's bed. Denki was still fast asleep there, declining the second air mattress Hiva offered, in case it's what he preferred, but Hiva was gone.
"Hiva, it's one joint, not two," Hitoshi informed. Hanta grabbed his phone and winced at the light before groaning at the 12:30 on the screen. "And it does make sense." Hanta had that usual feeling he had when Hiva was about to do something stupid and groaned again.
"Hiva, it's the middle of the night," he grumbled as he got out of bed. "The insomnia in this house is contagious." He woke Denki with a gentle shake of the shoulder. He whined and turned away. Hanta turned him back over. "Hiva's planning to do something stupid." Denki sat up with a sigh.
"Again?" he huffed. Hanta nodded.
"Get dressed. We're going with her." Denki got up to do as told.
"Okay, is this the kind of stupid that could get her killed?" Hanta shrugged.
"I don't know. I just got that feeling." Denki's head fell back with an exasperated sigh.
"Alright, let's go."
---
Hiva sat with her head in her hands and raised it to look at Hitoshi's writing. The question mark by her name was crossed out and replaced with 'Enhancement Quirk.' "No, that's why it was even weirder for me to get a Quirk. I had one joint. One joint means Quirkless."
"Whatever doctor told you that is an idiot because it's two joints," Hitoshi corrected. "And you were showing signs of a Quirk. I mean, your senses, strengths, and intelligence were greater than any regular human's. They were enhanced." Hitoshi tapped the word on his pad of paper. "So if any of what you wrote in that notebook is true, half of them I'm choosing to ignore because you know illegal!" Hiva shushed him.
"It's not that bad."
"Hiva, you..." Hitoshi trailed off and waved his hand at her. "Never mind. All I'm saying is that if All For One even exists, you could be the perfect vessel." Hiva looked down at Aza, who just shrugged.
"Then how are Aiko and Hajime involved?" she asked.
"The kid can use more than one Quirk, right?" Hitoshi checked. "That could make it easier for him to control any Quirk All For One would give him."
"And Aiko's Quirk was like mine, she just used it through movement instead of her voice like I'm doing now," Hiva added. A look of realization crossed her face. "It was like mine. It was mine. He had already gotten to her."
"Your gears are turning again."
"She might be alive."
"No," Hitoshi shut down. "Hiva, it was open casket. We saw her." Hiva pointed at him, ignoring how her stomach churned at the image of her friend, who had still seemed so alive that she could've jumped out of the casket at any time.
"We saw what we thought was her. This feels like one giant plot, all thought out to the simplest detail."
"That circles around you?" Hitoshi guessed. Hiva sighed and thought for a second.
"Weapon," she whispered.
"Weapon?" Hitoshi repeated as she snatched the marker from him. She knelt in front of the paper and got ready to write her key points.
"Stay with me here. Ayame wanted me to end All Might, and All Might and All For One are polar opposites."
"Okay. Wait, what about All Might?" Hiva shushed him.
"We weren't supposed to be twins," Hiva explained despite her shushing. "They didn't know at first, so when they did, Ayame said I was a 'dangerous offering'. If you're right about me having a Quirk, it's one so obvious yet so easy to miss. All For One and All Might are clearly enemies, and now I have a weird Quirk. Ayame's working with All For One and had him give me a Quirk. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it was more, considering the pure power of it."
"Okay, but wouldn't that make Ayame important to All For One?" Hiva turned to Hitoshi. "You're basically saying that you're his secret weapon. He'd have to leave you with someone trustworthy." Hiva nodded.
"Anyway, I think me and Aza fall under the nomu category," Hiva continued. "Well, kind of. It's like they're experiments and, as far as I can tell after seeing the one at USJ and then the shots they got on the night of Stain, I'm the most normal one. That's why the accident was their only move to try and kill me. First time didn't work, and they probably decided recruiting me was easiest, and it is, honestly. The other day I got punched through a whole city and got up. Recruitment is the easiest and safest option. Or maybe it was some kind of test. I haven't figured that out yet." Hitoshi nodded.
"And you think Aiko's like you?"
"With how similar our Quirks were, probably," Hiva answered. "I mean, neither of us really understood them, so it's possible. She could be the backup, or I could. But if what I think is true, that means she's really hard to get rid of."
"This seems like a stretch."
"Oh, duh," Hiva agreed. "Not a single thing ever makes sense, even the stuff that does when you think about it." Hitoshi squinted.
"... What?"
"Exactly." Hitoshi just shook his confusion away.
"Okay, if you're right, how do we prove it?"
"Think you're ready to visit?" Hitoshi's eyes went wide.
"That is sick."
"I wouldn't suggest something like that if I wasn't absolutely sure." Hitoshi slowly nodded. "We're also hitting the mortuary."
"My favorite way to spend the night," Hitoshi said sarcastically. "Two counts of breaking and entering." Hitoshi shook his head. "I can't believe I'm entertaining this."
"You think I'm wrong?"
"I think it's too far out there to be anything but fantasy," Hitoshi replied. "But if you're so sure, I believe it."
"Alright, let's go."
"Wait, what?"
"Let's go," Hiva repeated.
"Like now?"
"Yeah, before we get a chance to second guess and before dad or pops wake up to stop us."
"I... I can't dig Aiko up the first time I see her in years."
"Oh, no one's digging. Besides, it's just an empty casket."
"And if it's not?" Hiva shrugged.
"Give her a hug?" she suggested.
"Hiva!" Hitoshi cried with wide eyes. Hiva shushed him.
"Will you shut the hell up?!" she hissed. There was a quiet knock on the door, and Hiva sighed before opening it.
"We've come to assist," Denki told her with his arms up. Hanta gave him a look and pushed his arms down.
"Are you aware that we will be breaking laws?" Hiva checked.
"Sounds like fun," Hanta replied as he clapped his hands together. "When we going?"
"Now," Hiva answered.
"You gave in real quick," Hitoshi muttered. Hiva rolled her eyes at him.
"Aza, where first?" In a puff of black smoke, they appeared in the cemetery.
"Hiva, that is a locked gate!" Hitoshi groaned. "We're not supposed to be here!"
"Second-guessing. I called it." Hiva marched through the cemetery as she spoke. "Besides, you can go anywhere you want when police and pros aren't around." She came to a stop at Aiko's tombstone. The dirt lifted up and landed in a pile by the grave. Hiva leaned down and pulled the rotting crown of the casket off. The three boys turned away from the skeleton in the casket, but Hiva tilted her head. "That doesn't seem right." Hiva jumped down into the hole.
"Hiva, get out of there!" Hitoshi ordered as Hiva studied the skeleton.
"Congratulations, it's a boy!" She threw the skeleton at Hitoshi, and all three screamed as he threw it to the ground. "Hm, manly shrieks. Kirishima would be proud."
"What is wrong with you?!" Hitoshi shouted. Hiva snickered as she climbed from the grave. She held up the skeleton and pointed.
"See the pelvic bone? How it's heart-shaped? That means this was a guy. At least it would be if it was a real skeleton. Listen." Hiva threw the skeleton back into the grave. It landed heavily but made the sound of rustling clothing. Hiva lowered Aza into the grave, and the bones flickered before turning into a costume. Hiva reached down to grab it, and Hanta quickly jumped forward to steady her when she tipped. "Thank you." Hiva hummed at the familiar suit, and Hanta slowly reached a hand towards it before quickly pulling it back.
"That's my dad's." All eyes focused on Hanta.
"Are you sure?" Denki asked.
"I know my dad's hero costume." Hiva studied the costume and noticed how similar it was to Hanta's. The structure and colors were the same, but Hanta's had a different tape-looking pattern and his accessories. The suit in Hiva's hands had a large, white spider on the black chest, and that's when it clicked.
"Your dad was Arachnid?" Hiva questioned. Hanta nodded.
"What happened?" Hiva sent Denki a quick look.
"He went on a mission and just didn't make it back," Hanta explained as Hiva neatly folded the suit. "He went missing while scoping out the area." Denki had a hopeful look in his eyes that Hanta just shook his head at. "That was years ago. Heroes don't go missing for that long and stay alive." Hiva held the suit out to Hanta. "You already have an idea of how he's connected to this, don't you?"
"Considering I know who else went on that mission, I have a pretty good idea." Hanta pushed the suit away.
"I can't take that home."
"Why not? You deserve to have some sort of closure." Hanta shook his head.
"I can't. I can't do that to my mom. I can't take away her hope." Hiva frowned at this.
"All I'm saying is-" Hanta shook his head.
"I can't. She loses that, and I'll lose her. I won't be able to handle it." Hiva sighed and nodded.
"I'm gonna take it back with us so you can think about it." Hiva tucked the costume under her arm. "I'm gonna give you some advice, and I might sound awful."
"Oh, it's gonna be super depressing, isn't it?" Hiva chuckled at him.
"Shut up and listen. I've been doing this for three years." Hiva pointed at the grave, and Hanta gave her a surprised look. "I've been trying to solve this fucked up mystery with more plot holes than a net since I was twelve. All it's done is make me angry and sad, and it broke me."
"Hiva..."
"Hope is more crippling than a painful truth. At some point, you have to stop fighting it and heal. If you keep fighting, you'll never get that chance. It's better for you and the people around you." Hanta looked away with a sigh. "I'll find him if you take it."
"What?"
"If you take the costume with you, I'll find him. Dead or alive. If he happens to be dead, I'll bring him back."
"That's impossible." Hiva raised an eyebrow.
"Wanna bet? I'll find a way." Hanta looked skeptical, and Hiva held up her pinkie. "Do you trust me?" Hanta took the costume out from under her arm and linked his pinkie with hers.
"With everything." Hiva stood and pulled him up.
"Good." She looked around. "Where did the other two go?" Hiva turned in time to see the dirt drop on the grave. "You didn't bury them, did you?" Aza shook its head. "Okay. Guys, come on! We're hitting the road!" Hitoshi and Denki made their way over, and Hiva threw her arms out.
"Didn't seem like something we were supposed to hear," Hitoshi explained. Hiva nodded.
"Okay, just announce you're leaving.  I get worried when you disappear on me." Hitoshi rolled his eyes. "I do. Now let's go." In a puff of black smoke, they appeared in the mortuary. Hiva saw the cameras were covered in black, and she looked at Aza. "You got security handled, right?" Aza nodded and put its hands up like a zombie. "Brainwashed?" Aza nodded. "Alright, let's get to it." Hiva and Hitoshi both made their way over to the filing cabinets and gave them experimental tugs, only to be met with locks. Hiva pulled four bobby pins from her pocket and handed two to Hitoshi.
"Okay, before you freak me out with your lock-picking abilities, why don't you try the simpler option?" Denki suggested while pointing at the computer.
"We don't know any..." Aza disappeared and reappeared a second later to start typing, "... login info." Hiva walked over to the computer and patted Aza on the head. She searched through everything only to come up with nothing. "Mind getting me the rest?" Aza was gone and back, and Hiva did the same with every work login but still had nothing.
"Try personal." Hiva smiled and lightly smacked Denki's shoulder.
"Oh, you genius boy! I didn't even think of that." The compliment seemed to surprise him. "Aza, do your thing." Aza put its arm to its head like a salute and went to do as asked. Aza puffed back a second later to log in as someone else.
"Key words are going to make this easier." Hiva watched Denki talk with a smile. "Burns, asphyxiation, nonhuman or inhuman, obvious ones that fit the situation." Denki tilted his head at Hiva's adoring gaze. "What?" Hiza shook her head.
"You should show off your smarts more often, chéri. It's quite attractive." Denki turned a bright red as Hiva did what he suggested. When there was nothing, Aza went to the next person and then the next until... "Got it. Bodies to a crisp and seemingly human but no human DNA. Obviously not in those words, but it's close enough." Hiva read over the entire page. "This isn't just about the bodies, it's a log about all of it. Apparently, this one's the only one that can remember. It's a personal project."
"Ayame's too good to forget a loose end," Hitoshi spoke up. "She's treating this like a game. All of these are clues that she left behind." Hiva sighed at Hitoshi.
"I'm pretty sure we're all caught up on that." Hiva signed out of the computer and walked over to the mortuary stretchers. She went to the ones on the farthest right and pulled the top and bottom ones out. Both held the charred remains that flickered and turned into two different notes.
"'Getting warmer,'" the twins read. Hiva sighed and turned to the clock on the wall.
"It's almost three. I say we head back."
"Oh, finally," Hitoshi sighed. The four were in Hiva's room in a puff of smoke.
"Everything back to normal?" Aza nodded. "Good. Thank you." She turned to Denki and Hanta. "Sleep?"
"Please!" they groaned. Hitoshi left for his room, and Hiva left to get changed, but the other two just stayed where they were to do the same.
"I lost my dad too," Denki said after a second. Hanta turned to him, slightly surprised by this information. "It wasn't like what happened to yours. Mine just left one day and didn't come back." Denki turned and met Hanta's eyes, and he knew this was Denki offering a shoulder to cry on if it was ever needed. Hanta cleared his throat and fell into the air mattress.
"Thanks." Denki nodded as he laid down, and that's when Hanta turned back to him. "Before my dad went on that mission, I had this awful feeling that something bad was gonna happen. My dad had good instincts. It was part of his Quirk, like Spider-Man's Spidey-Sense. I thought if I told him, he'd believe me and stay home because he understood that feeling, but he just brushed it away. Promised he'd be okay and back home in a couple weeks. That obviously didn't happen." Denki frowned at his friend's story. "I started getting them again when I met Hiva. I still remember looking at this girl outside battle center E and getting that sick, anxious feeling. Then she banshee-ed herself out of the sky? I don't know." Hanta sighed. "Every time Hiva runs off, I get that feeling, and I have to follow. It's like I get a second chance each time." Denki just stared at him. "That made no sense, did it?"
"No, it did." The two smiled at each other, and Hiva walked in.
"I'm tired," she whined as she flopped on the bed beside Denki. Both turned their smiles to her. Denki was quick to pull her into his chest, and he kept his arms securely around her waist. They mumbled a good night to each other and then Hanta and drifted off to sleep right away. Hanta was up for a few minutes more, distracted by the soft smile Denki wore in his sleep. Hanta had one of his own as he admired how relaxed Hiva was in Denki's arms and couldn't help but wonder if that's how relaxed she had been in his that time before. When Hanta did finally drift to sleep, it was to the sound of their breathing filling the air.

Hiva's P.o.V
After I stole my beanie back from Denki, we decided to play some games and poor Katsuki got crushed each time. I had to restrain him so he didn't kill Denki after he beat him at UNO. After not much convincing, my dad got them all to stay for dinner. "Don't you guys need to go home?" I asked them as everyone sat down. They all shrugged and I sighed. After dinner, they all went home. "Wait!" I called Denki as he tried to walk out the door. He turned and looked at me. "Um, weren't you going to stay? I just assumed from the bag." He rubbed the back of his neck and his cheeks were a little pink as he swung the bag I was talking about back and forth.
"I was but... Would that be okay?" he asked. 'This is a lot more awkward than I thought it would be.' I thought.
"Yeah, no one will mind," I told him.
"Actually-" I turned to Hitoshi to glare but saw that dad had slapped his hand over the boy's mouth to keep him quiet.
"Of course you can stay," dad told the other blonde.
"Thank you." Dad waved his hand, silently telling the boy that it was fine.
"So... upstairs?" I questioned. He nodded and we walked up the steps to my room. I shut the door to keep the cats out and they meowed angrily. "What now? I’ve never had friends over before." Denki laughed at me. I scowled and was going to lay on the bed but heard an offended meow. I turned and saw Hiva stretched out in the middle of my bed. "Where did you even come from?!" She jumped from the bed and trotted over to where Denki sat at my desk. Denki chuckled and picked up the cat.
"Hello," he said in a baby voice. Hiva sat happily in his lap. "You sound like a motor." Hiva got offended by this and slapped his hand with her paw. "That's not bad! I'm just saying you're loud." Hiva shook her head and jumped from his lap.
"Look what you did." Hiva trotted over to me and rubbed her head against my leg. "Come here." I picked her up and she looked at Denki and meowed. "I know, he's so mean." Hiva started headbutting me for pets while Denki looked shocked.
"I didn't mean to," he whined. I laughed and walked over to him with Hiva cradled in my arms. He huffed and grabbed me. Hiva and I both made small noises of surprise as I fell on him.
"Hey!"
"What?" he asked with a smirk. I flicked his forehead and he pouted. I giggled and stared at him.
"You're still cute," I told him without thinking.
"And you still like me."
"I can think you're cute and not like you."
"You will though." I got a little closer to his face.
"Maybe." Sitting in his lap gave me a bit of height so he ended up staring up at me and I couldn't stop myself from staring back. "Your eyes are really pretty." Denki's cheeks turned pink but he didn't look away.
"You're everything is pretty." He leaned a little closer. There was suddenly a little bump on the other side of my door. I jumped off and away from Denki. I forgot about Hiva and she jumped to my bed once she fell out of my lap.
"Hitoshi, stop moving!" I heard pop grumble. I went back to Denki.
"Did you hear that?" I whispered. He shook his head and I made a come here motion. We walked to the door and put our ears against it.
"Shut up, pops."
"Both of you shut up!" dad whisper-yelled. I looked at Denki and covered my mouth with my hand to keep the laughter in. I shooed him away and he backed up. I hit the door with my fist and I heard two yelps and a thud followed by a curse from Hitoshi.
"Whatcha doin'?" I asked.
"We've been caught!" dad shouted.
"Retreat!" he and Hitoshi yelled together. I opened the door in time to see them both run down different directions of the hall. Pop just stood there.
"They dragged me into that."
"Really?" I asked. He knew I knew he suggested it. Hiva walked out the door and looked back at me and Denki before flicking her tail and continuing to walk away. "Rude." I looked up and saw that pop disappeared. I sighed but an idea popped into my head. "Ooh, come with me!" I grabbed Denki's arm and ran down the stairs to the basement.
"What are we doing?" Denki asked.
"Just come on!"
--- Denki's P.o.V
Hiva dragged me through, what looked like, a little gym and pushed me into a giant beanbag in a separate room. "I'll be back." Hiva ran off and I stayed where I was. I did look around though and saw that there were even more instruments. 'How?' I saw a microphone and a whole bunch of wires and other things that I probably shouldn't touch. The door opened a few minutes later and Hiva walked in with a bowl of popcorn, her laptop, and circle glasses on her face.
"What's all this?" I asked as she sat next to me with the popcorn between us.
"It's where I record," she answers. "It's the quietest room in the house so it's easiest. Ready?" She held up the laptop.
"For what?" She put the laptop on the floor in front of us and shoved a handful of popcorn in her mouth as she quickly typed with one hand.
"This!" Before I could ask her to explain what 'this' was, I heard the beginning of a vine compilation. Hiva laughed as she expertly copied each one. “You seemed like the kind of person to be into these.”
"Do you just know all of them?" I asked as I grabbed my own handful of popcorn. She nodded happily.
"The one other thing I do with my time," she said. "I got them all memorized but they’re still funny." She kept laughing at them with her eyes on the screen but mine were on her. The glasses that now occupied her face made her look even cuter. I wasn't lying when I said her everything was pretty. I probably could've phrased it better though. She suddenly turned and looked at me. "What?"
"N-Nothing," I stuttered. I turned to the screen and felt a weight on my shoulder a minute later. I looked to the side and blushed to see her resting her head on my shoulder. She put the bowl in my lap and curled into my side. I sat there awkwardly for a second before deciding to wrap an arm around her. We took turns playing some of our favorite videos for the other and she would laugh right by my ear causing my blush to grow until I felt like I was on fire. I don't know how long we were down there but I did know that Hiva's head somehow managed to gain weight. I moved slightly and saw that her eyes were closed. Her breathing was quiet, calm, and even. I checked the time on her laptop and my eyes widened to see that it was twelve-thirty. I laid Hiva gently on the beanbag before grabbing her laptop and the now empty bowl and walking up the steps. I placed the bowl in the sink and I put her laptop on her desk before going back down to the basement. Hiva looked like she was fast asleep so I picked her up. I would've woken her up, but she always looks tired enough as it is. I held her bridal style and she snuggled into my chest. As I carried her up the steps, I finally realized how light she actually was. She couldn't have been more than a hundred pounds. I opened her door and laid her on her bed. I took her beanie, choker, and glasses off her and put them on her desk before wrapping the extremely fluffy lavender blankets around her. I looked at her sleeping face for a minute before grabbing my bag and leaving to find the bathroom. I changed into my pajamas and went downstairs. Not daring to use the bright yellow sleeping bag I found, I used one of the blankets that were draped over the back of the couch. I laid down and fell asleep immediately.
---
I felt something soft hit my face and I groaned as I opened my eyes. Cat Hiva was sitting on my chest. "What are you doing?" I asked. "It's too early for this." She hit my face with her paw over and over. "What do you want?" She jumped to the floor and yelled at me in cat. "I can't understand you." She let out the most human sigh I'd ever heard from an animal and started clawing at my pajama bottoms. "Hey!" She tried to pull me with one paw. "What do you want from me? I'm probably the only person in this house that wants to sleep. Let me." I tried to lay back down to sleep but Hiva continued to yowl. "What?!" I threw the blanket off me and glared at the cat. She ran a few feet and then meowed. "What, want me to follow?" She meowed so I took that as a yes. I sighed and got up. I followed and she stopped in front of Hiva's room. I looked at the cat. "You woke me up for cuddles?" Hiva just scratched at the door and meowed. "I'm leaving." Cat Hiva didn't like that. She ran in front of me and every time I tried to walk around her, she moved to stand in front of me. I attempted to step over her and she jumped up to catch my foot so I just gave up with a sigh. "Fine." I opened the door for the cat but she just walked away. "Are you serious?" I was going to close the door but then I heard movement. I rushed into the room as Hiva thrashed around violently like she was trying to fight someone and gasped for air. I shook Hiva's shoulder in an attempt to wake her. "Wake up! Wake up!" Hiva shot up and sucked in a huge breath. I put my hand on her shoulder and she immediately tried to punch me in the face. Luckily for me, I was able to catch her hand. "Hey, it's me." She pulled her hand back with a look of shame, shock, and a little bit of fear.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled.
"No, it's fine," I told her. "Are you okay? What happened?" I knelt beside the bed and she curled into a ball as she shook her head. I wrapped my arms around her and she froze but slowly relaxed. Keeping my arms around her, I climbed into the bed with her. I didn't really know what I was supposed to do. I didn't know what happened and I never had to do this before. I heard her sniff and that's when I realized that she was clinging to me like her life depended on it as her tears soaked through my shirt. I pulled her even closer and put my chin on her head. She calmed down and it was silent.
"Sorry," she muttered as she wiped her eyes. She pulled away and got up to grab her glasses, turn on the light, and close the door. Once the light was on, I could see that her eyes were red and puffy.
"You don't have to be," I said as I followed her to her desk. "You didn't do anything."
"Oh, thanks for bringing this and me up." She sat and opened the laptop.
"Um, what are you doing?" I asked as I closed it.
"Research, designing. You know, all the stuff that keeps me up."
"Yeah, not tonight." I easily lifted her up and she looked like a cat from how I held her into the air.
"I would like you to know that I'm not Simba."
"Nants ingonyama bagithi baba!" She laughed at my poor attempt to copy the song and I put her on the bed. "Okay, this is what you do. Put head on pillow and sleep."
"Or, hear me out, I stay awake for a full 72 hours again."
"How about- wait, again?" She shrugged. "How?"
"A mix of insomnia and caffeine." I took her glasses and pushed her back on the bed.
"Sleep." She sat up and shook her head. "Please?" I gave her puppy eyes hoping they would work. She made a face like she was fighting with herself and I knew it was working. She groaned and flopped back onto the mattress. She almost smacked her head on the headboard and my hand shot out to stop it. "You're not good at this."
"That's because I don't do it," she told me.
"Clearly." I got up to go but she grabbed my wrist. I turned back and she looked up at me with her own puppy eyes.
"Cuddles," she ordered as the puppy eyes became more effective.
"No, your family will murder me." She made grabby hands and I sighed before turning off the light and laying down next to her. I had to give in. Despite the playful attitude, I could tell she was still bothered by her nightmare. She smiled happily but then huffed when I turned away. She tugged on the back of my shirt so I turned to face her. She got as close to me as she could and buried her face in my chest. I smiled and wrapped both arms around her waist after pulling her blanket over both of us. My heart was pounding. I was nervous from having her so close but, at the same time, it made me feel calm. I never really had a crush before. I mean, I liked people before but this was different. I never got a crush or any kind of feeling like that so quickly but it was different with Hiva and I don't know why. I put my face in her hair and sighed. 'I really like her, that I do know.' I thought. I heard her breathing change to how it sounded when she first fell asleep. 'For someone who can't sleep to save their life, she sure falls asleep quickly.' I played with the end of her hair and slowly drifted to sleep as well.
A/N: That's the end of the story. The next is called My Pikachu. Description: There's a lot Hiva has to learn about herself and she needs help but she seems to be the only one who doesn't realize it. She's independent and wants to believe she can take on everything without help but, deep down, she knows that she can't. Denki seems to be able to see through every wall she puts between them. She knows that he's already started to break them and see what she tries to hide from everyone. She also knows that she's not prepared for all of them to crumble.
I went through and edited this twice since there were still some mistakes and it sounded a bit childish. It still seems pretty childish to me, but I think it's a little better than before.

Death before this

Denki's P.o.V
"What do you mean she's not here?!" I cried. Mina, Kirishima, Sero, Bakugo, and I decided to visit Hiva as a group again and this woman's telling me she's not even here.
"She should've been here for at least another day, right?" Mina asked.
"Yes, but her brother and father each grabbed them and walked out," the person at the desk answered. "They carried them out like sacks of potatoes and just said 'we'll see you later but hopefully not any time soon.'"
"What is wrong with that family?" Bakugo asked. "Don't answer that." We walked away from the desk and I sighed as I dropped the bag I had with me.
"What do we do now?" I whined with a pout.
"Don't you have her number?" Kirishima asked.
"Yeah," I answered with a sad sigh.
"Then call her, dumbass!" Bakugo shouted. People shushed him and he gave them a threatening look that made them turn around.
"Oh, yeah!" I quickly took out my phone and called Hiva.
"What now?!" she shouted into the phone.
"I didn't even do anything yet!"
"Pikachu!" She sounded a lot happier knowing it was me and it made me smile. "What's up?" I was going to answer but then I heard, "Do that again and I'll have to peacefully break your legs."
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"What's going on?" Sero asked. I shushed him as I waved him away.
"I'm fine but this guy might not be if he keeps it up," she answered. Mina stole my phone and put her on speaker.
"What are you doing?” Mina questioned.
“Getting ready to beat a bitch!” I snatched my phone back from Mina.
"Should you really be fighting people the day you got out of the hospital?" I asked as we began to walk.
"Probably not," she answered. "In my defense, I can’t stop myself from jumping headfirst into a situation without thinking it through." There was a voice in the background. "Yes, I did call you a bitch and yes I do talk big but call me 'tiny' again and you'll regret it. I already tried to calm everyone but you're still angry, I'm getting angry, and once I'm actually angry everyone involved is gonna be hurtin' a little bit."
"Shouldn't you be at home?"
"I took a walk," she replied.
"Why?"
"Because I felt like it, Pikachu!" There was silence. "You're disgusting." More silence. "Oh, boohoo, I'm sorry I'm ruining your job, but crime doesn't pay." It was silent once more and then there was something that sounded like a growl followed by a suspicious sounding crack. "Um… oops?” I heard her hum. “I, uh, I gotta call you back.”
“Is everything alright?"
"Well… I am." ‘I’m not even gonna ask.’
"Before you go, can I have your address?"
"Why?"
"Please?"
"Um..." Hiva sighed before giving me her address. "I'm trusting you to not do anything stupid."
"I'll do my best!" She sighed again.
"I'm regretting this already. I gotta go. Bye, Pika." She hung up and I started to look up directions.
"Hey, Kami, what's in the bag?" Mina asked. I looked away before answering.
"I was going to stay with her at the hospital so I brought some stuff," I answered with a small blush. I was going to stay the night with her and go to school the next morning but I didn't know how well that plan would work out now. Mina, Sero, and Kirishima teased me a little before starting their own conversation.
"Hey, Dunceface." I looked at Bakugo with a small glare. "I don't know her as well as I used to, but I do know that you're gonna have a lot of trouble with her."
"What do you mean?" I asked. He made a ‘tch’ sound.
"I mean she doesn't really trust people," he explained. "It was almost impossible to get more than a name out of her when we were younger. She doesn't get along with people so don't mess it up."
"Thanks, Bakugo."
"That's not to help you, it's to help her," he told me. "I need to make it up to her somehow. Hurt her in any way and you'll have me, two pros, and an overprotective brother on your ass, got it? And it's the same for anyone else so don't think you're special." I gulped.
"Yes, sir." Bakugo nodded and walked behind the rest of our group. He seemed to really care about her. It made me a little jealous for some reason. I didn't have a reason to and it's not like he liked her or she liked him. I sighed. 'Whatever.' We got to her house and knocked on the door.
"Hiva! Where-" Yamada opened the door and we all waved awkwardly. Well, Bakugo didn't. He just stood there and acted grumpy. "Oh, what are you doing here?"
"We found out that Hiva wasn't at the hospital so we came here," I said. Yamada smiled and stepped out of the way to let us in.
"She's not here right now but her room is the first room to the left," Yamada told us. "I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you waited there for her. I think she'll be back soon." I nodded and we thanked him as we took off our shoes so we could go up to her room. "Hiva," I looked around, "leave the boy alone." I turned to Yamada and saw him looking at my feet. Right behind my left foot was a grey kitten. I sat down and put my bag by my shoes as I started to pet its head making it purr loudly.
"Aw! Aren't you a pretty baby." The kitten climbed into my lap and stood up on its hind legs to rub its head against my chin. I laughed and stood up with the kitten in my arms and it continued to purr.
"That's Hiva," Yamada told me. "And the two there are Hitoshi and Shota." I looked at a cat and kitten standing as far away from me as they could while still being able to see the kitten I was holding. Both of their tails were waving angrily and they looked ready to attack me. "This little girl doesn't really like people so I'm a little surprised." Yamada tried to pet the kitten and she lightly batted at his hand. "Hey!" The kitten managed to climb onto my shoulder and she just sat there. (My cat does this.) "There are cats everywhere so be careful. Shota and the twins will kill you if you hurt one of their babies." Hitoshi and Aizawa suddenly poked their heads out of the living room and nodded. We walked up to Hiva's room and I looked around.
"This fits her," Mina said as everyone else looked around, too. Kitten Hiva stayed on my shoulder while Cat Shota and Kitten Hitoshi stayed in the doorway. Her room did fit her. It was black but there were splatters of white, blue, purple, red, orange, and yellow thrown around all the walls and ceiling except for one. The one wall that had no paint was across from the door and it was a giant chalkboard. The drawing on the board amazed me.
"Woah," Sero whispered. I nodded. It was a picture of two wings. One was white and looked perfect. The other was black and falling apart but looked just as beautiful. In the corner of the room was a collection of different instruments. It looked like there was a guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard.
"Mina! Get out of her closet!" Kirishima ordered. “We’re waiting, not snooping.”
"Where does she get her clothes because they are awesome." Mina walked out of the closet with a purple crop top and black pants. She looked in the mirror and held the clothes in front of her like she was trying to see how they looked on her.
"Hey, what do you think this is?" Sero asked. Bakugo had just sat quietly at her desk while we looked around. Sero pushed him away and sat in the chair instead and Bakugo started yelling. He played with the pad and the screen lit up to show some kind of music thing. At least, I think that's what it was. The weird lines on the screen made it seem that way.
"Should we listen to it?" Mina asked as she played with more of Hiva's clothes.
"I don't think so," Kirishima. "I think we're being pretty nosy." Kirishima looked at Bakugo. "Bakugo, back me up."
"I'm not getting involved." Everyone turned to look at me.
"We are being nosy but..." I sighed. "Play it." I pushed Sero out of the way and sat in the chair this time. I quickly found out how to start the sound and played around with the speaker attached to her computer. Knowing her, it was probably turned up all the way. I played the song and everyone went quiet. My jaw dropped. I heard her voice before but it was always so quiet and she seemed so embarrassed but this... wow. It was the complete opposite. The song ended and we stayed silent.
"What are you doing?" 'Crap.'
--- Hiva's P.o.V
I held the boy in my arms as I waited for the police. I eyed the now unconscious man lying on the ground. I had punched him and that somehow made everything feel sore. Good thing he went down since there was no way I’d be able to do anything if he stayed up. That dude was acting all big and tough when I found him. I'm glad I showed up when I did.
I heard the sirens and patted the boy’s head as officers suddenly marched into the alley. The boy continued to rock out to some Japanese cover band doing Twenty-One Pilots songs as he blocked everything out. A woman I assumed was the mother ran over and hugged the boy. The boy had told me he had wandered off and got lost. Then this guy found him and told him that he'd help him find his parents. That clearly did happen. I felt someone tug on my shirt. I looked down and the boy was trying to hand my headphones back. I took the headphones with a smile.
"Thank you for helping me find my mommy," he said in his little kid voice. I smiled and nodded.
"Of course, squirt," I told him as I ruffled his hair. I stood up from the ground with a groan and the mother hugged me after she stood as well.
"Thank you." I hugged her back and smiled. This. This is why I wanted to be a hero. I wanted to save people. Fame didn't matter to me and neither did money. I just wanted to cause this. This happiness and relief. She pulled away and smiled at me. "Thank you." I nodded.
"Of course."
"You want to be a hero, don't you?" the father asked. I smiled at the ground and started to play with the gloves as I nodded. "Well, you already have three supporters..."
"Hiva." He nodded and patted my shoulder.
"You already have three supporters, Hiva. Good luck." I smiled with pride. I didn’t usually get compliments or support from anyone that wasn’t family so this felt nice. I needed to stay and answer some questions and things like that before I was able to leave. I put my headphones on and walked home. I couldn't stop myself from smiling. This day had started out so shitty and now I felt great. Dad and pops began fighting so I had run off and that just made everything hurt. There were nurses with good healing Quirks but they didn’t help the pain, just healed me enough to go home without too much of a problem.
I yawned and turned red when someone gave me a weird look. For once, I tried to get to sleep but I couldn't. I guess seeing Kai and Ayame again brought back all the memories I was finally able to block out. Right now, though, that didn't matter.
I walked into the house and took off my shoes. I noticed a bag by someone else's shoes and assumed this is what Denki was doing when he wanted my address. 'Wonder what's in here.' I thought as I walked up to my room. I went to open the door but realized that it was already open and that Shota and Hitoshi were staring at something angrily. I took my headphones off and walked in to see Mina, Sero, Kirishima, Katsuki, and Denki gathered around my computer that was playing the recording I had been working on. Hiva was on Denki's shoulder which surprised me since the two of us weren't big fans of people. I turned red with embarrassment. I hadn’t done any editing to actually make it sound good yet and I was just waiting for them to start laughing. "What are you doing?" I asked angrily. They all turned around quickly and stared at me.
"That was you?" Min asked. I nodded as I moved them away so I could log out of my computer like I should've done before.
"That was awesome!" Kirishima cheered. I managed to blush harder and shut my computer.
"It was surprisingly good," Katsuki complimented.
"Good? It was amazing!" Denki cried. I felt like I was on fire.
"Please stop."
"Oh!" Mina cried as she picked some clothes up from the floor and put them in my closet. "We need to go shopping. You have great taste."
"Can you teach me?" Sero asked as he pointed to the drawing on the chalkboard.
"Can you play all of those?" Denki questioned as he pointed to the instrument corner. Hiva put a paw on the side of his head and meowed. Denki immediately started to pet her and she purred happily.
"She likes you more than me," I complained. "Anyway, yeah I can play them. I guess we could go shopping at some point. I'm not a big fan of it but I'll deal. If you really want, sure but Hitoshi’s the better artist. That it?" They nodded. "Okay, why are you here? And Denki, what's in the bag?" I held up the bag I brought up and he snatched it from me. “Okay.”
"You didn't look in there, right?" he asked. I shook my head and he sighed.
"Why?" I snatched it back and started to open it.
"Hiva!" He placed the kitten on the ground before getting up to snatch the bag back. I jumped out of the way and ran. Denki followed me and the others followed him slowly to enjoy the show from afar. I ran around the house and dodged the felines like an expert.
"What did you do?" Hitoshi asked as I jumped on his back.
"Nothing yet," I answered. "You're my shield now."
"Nope. You're on your own."
"Come on." Hitoshi shook his head so, like a good sibling, I got off his back and then pushed him towards Denki when he was close enough. "Sacrifice!" I started to run again. After running through the entire house, we ended up in my room. I opened the bag. He told me not to so, of course, I had to. I didn’t search through it or anything because I didn’t want to be too nosy but I didn’t see what would be so embarrassing. They were just clothes. Then I noticed what was right on top. Denki caught up and tackled me to the bed. I winced slightly from the impact and Denki snatched the bag from me. He saw the look on my face and knew I saw them. He groaned and sat back so that he was straddling me. I finally laughed. "You're adorable, you know that?"
"Stop laughing," he whined.
"Pikachu boxers?" I asked. He turned red and zipped his bag. “I'd put that stuff on the bottom if it embarrasses you so much.” He threw the bag to the side and huffed. I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him down into a hug. "Relax, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about and I’ll forget I saw anything." He buried his face into my neck.
"Promise?" I nodded and he sighed in relief.
"You're adorable."
"You said that already."
"I know."
"You're mean." I chuckled and he huffed again.
"Aw, poor baby." I patted his head and he lightly slapped my hand away. Denki was suddenly pulled away and he yelped. Bakugo was pulling him away and Hiva was meowing at him. "You're awfully bossy." She glared at me before turning the look back to Bakugo. "Kat, let go." He let Denki go and he fell with a thud. Hiva trotted up to him and sniffed his chin before giving it a little lick. "Wow, she really likes you." Denki booped her nose and she looked confused before lightly putting her paw on his nose. Denki chuckled. I slid from the bed and gave her a quick pet. She turned to me and flicked her tail before looking back at Denki. “Rude!” She meowed at me and flicked her tail again.
"Okay, what should we do?" Mina asked. I shrugged.
"I don't think there's that much to do," I replied. "There's some movies. We got some good scary ones and some okay video games. I don't really do a lot."
"What do you do for fun?" Sero asked.
"Train."
"Really?" Denki questioned. I nodded.
"That and this stuff." I got up and moved the laptop from the desk and opened it. I pulled out a whole bunch of blueprints and a notebook full of ideas. Katsuki snatched the book away and seemed impressed with what he saw on the pages. He handed it back to me.
"You said you had scary movies, right?" he asked. I nodded. "Let's go." He walked away and I shrugged and followed. Kitten Hiva had curled up in the middle of my bed and Denki was sad because he thought he made her upset when he moved her to get up.
"Denki, it's a cat," I told him.
--- Third Person P.o.V
Hiva found a movie and then leaned against the arm of the couch. Denki sat next to her. Halfway through the movie, Denki got an idea. He was going to do the cliche stretch to put his arm around Hiva. Right when he tried to, Hiva leaned forward. She then leaned back with a quiet 'ooh' from the scene and Denki jumped and bought his arm back. "This is so bad," she said with a laugh. "I remember it being better." There was another scene similar to the one before and Denki clung to Hiva with his face in her neck. "Are you okay?"
"I'm great," he whimpered. Hiva chuckled.
"Sure 'bout that?" Denki nodded and then the others made the same noise Hiva made before causing him to shake his head. "Come on." Hiva sat up and let him lean on her. She put her arm around him and he laid his head on her shoulder. He fiddled with the holes in her jeans and completely forgot about the movie. By the time it was over, his head had fallen into Hiva's lap and she started to play with his hair. "It's over. Want to pick the next one?" Denki shrugged but got up anyway to start looking through DVDs.
"What's this one?" Denki asked. He held up a DVD with Hiva's name on it.
"Oh, that," Hiva said. "Hitoshi has one somewhere, too. It's just videos of me." Denki had this look in his eyes and Hiva knew what he was doing. "Don't." Denki put the DVD in the player anyway and threw himself onto the couch next to Hiva with an excited smile. The other four looked at the TV screen curiously but Bakugo, of course, looked like he didn't care.
"Let's do this!" Denki cheered.
A/N: Okay, no one can tell me that Denki doesn't have at least one pair of Pikachu boxers.

First Battle
Cavalry Battle before this
“You should really go to Aunt Chiyo,” Hitoshi told me. I waved it off as I stood in line for lunch.
“It’s not that serious, Toshi.” The ringing wasn’t as loud but it was still there and, I hate to admit it, but I was still a little dazed. My head was starting to hurt from everything I did during the cavalry battle and the chatter of the cafeteria wasn’t helping.
“Hiva, I’m worried,” he admitted.
“And you can be but it’ll be for nothing since there’s nothing to worry about.”
“Okay,” Hitoshi grabbed my arm and pulled me from the line to the hallway. “What’s up with you? You make bad decisions but not when it comes to this stuff. What’s going on?”
“No-”
“Do not tell me nothing,” Hitoshi ordered. “What, does it have to do with Ayame or something?”
“No!” I hesitated. “Yes. Maybe. I-I don’t know.” Hitoshi waited for me to continue and I sighed. “It’s-”
“Hey, Hiva!” Denki called. Hitoshi looked ready to kill as Denki ran over. “My favorite girl.” He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and got close to my face. I scoffed and pushed his face away from mine. Hitoshi looked at me with a raised eyebrow when he noticed the blush that covered my cheeks. “Anyway, I came to get you ‘cause the girls are looking for you.”
“Why?” I asked.
“There’s a cheer battle and Yaoyorozu wants your measurements so she can make you a uniform,” Denki answered.
“I want no part of that,” I said.
“Hey, Hiva!” Jiro yelled. I looked behind Denki and saw her, Yaoyorozu, and Mina walking over.
“Jiro, I’m not doing that stupid cheer thing,” I told her.
“If I have to, you have to,” she replied as she lifted me into the air.
“Hey!” I thrashed around and she adjusted her hold. Mina took both my legs and She got my arms. “Let go! I’m not doing it!”
“I got you lunch already so you can eat while I make the cheer outfits.” I looked at Yaoyorozu.
“Thank you but-”
“No,” Yaoyorozu cut me off. “You have to do this with the rest of us.” I sighed and let Mina and Jiro carry me into the cafeteria.
---
“Now that lunch is over, it’s finally time to reveal the last game!” dad announced. “But before that, there’s good news for all of you who didn’t make it to the finals! This is just a sports festival! So we’ve prepared recreational games that everyone can participate in, too! We’ve even brought real cheerleaders from America to liven things up! Huh?”
“What are they doing?” pops asked. I crossed my arms over my stomach and my face burned from embarrassment. ‘I want to cry.’ I thought.
“What’s the matter, Class A?” dad questioned. “What kind of fan service is that?”
“I can’t believe I let you drag me into this,” I groaned as I stomped off.
“Oh, come on!” Mina whined as she tried to pull me back. “It’s not that bad.”
“Yes, it is!” I argued. I pulled my arm from her grip and went over to Hitoshi. ‘I can’t wait to get out of this.’ Hitoshi stepped a little behind me. I crossed my arms over my stomach and he did the same. “Thanks.” His chin bumped my shoulder as he nodded.
“You don’t have anything to be embarrassed about.”
“I have everything to be embarrassed about,” I grumbled.
“Alright, everyone!” dad continued. “Let’s have fun competing in the recreational games! When that’s over, the sixteen from the five teams that made it to the final round will duke it out tournament style, one-on-one!”
“Now, let’s draw lots to determine the bracket,” Nemuri began. “Once the bracket is determined, we’ll have the recreational games and then start! The sixteen finalists can choose whether or not they want to participate in the recreation. I’m sure some of you want to rest or save your strength.” We didn’t have to wait long for the bracket. “This is the bracket based on the results of the drawing!” The crowd cheered. Hitoshi’s first battle was against Izuku and we both tensed. My first battle was with Mina.
“It’s you, isn’t it?” Hitoshi asked. “Midoriya Izuku.” I was slightly surprised. I didn’t even realize him go over to the boy.
“Hiva!” Denki walked over to me and I glared at him and he looked kind of terrified. “What?” I walked over to Hitoshi. “What did I do?”
“Walk with me,” I ordered as he began to walk away from Izuku. I grabbed his arm and Denki followed us. I ignored him and focused on Hitoshi. “Your best bet when it comes to Izuku is to use your Quirk as soon as you can. If he uses his, you’ll have no chance.”
“What’s his Quirk?” Hitoshi questioned. I shrugged.
“I have no idea,” I answered.
“You’re both just gonna ignore me?” I turned to face Denki and he gulped at my glare.
“Not now, Kaminari.”
“Kaminari?!” he cried. “What happened to Denki?” He pouted and I sighed.
“That trick was stupid,” I growled. “I’m guessing Mineta was a part of it too.” I turned and kept walking.
“Wait, this is because of the cheer thing?” Denki sped up to be at my side. “It wasn’t supposed to make anyone this angry, especially you. If I knew you’d get this upset I wouldn’t have been a part of it and I would’ve stopped him.” I felt a little bad since he seemed so panicked but the embarrassment from my insecurities and allowing myself to be tricked were much stronger. “Hiva, wait!” He jumped in front of me and put both hands on my shoulders, eyes giving my left one a curious glance before darting back to my face. Hitoshi glared at him but he didn’t even seem to notice which surprised me. I shook my hand instead of my head and Hitoshi backed off. “I’m serious. I am sorry. If it makes you feel any better, you look great.” His eyes started to drift over my body. “Really great.” I cleared my throat and he blinked back into reality. “Um, sorry.” I looked away and sighed.
“I guess it was stupid for me to be so upset,” I muttered as I crossed my arms over my stomach. He looked confused but then a look of realization crossed his face a second later.
“Oh, I get it,” he whispered more to himself than me. He wrapped his arms around me. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of. I think you’re beautiful.” I felt my face heat up and heard a gag.
“Can you not?! That’s my sister!” Hitoshi yelled. Denki immediately took a step back.
“Um, see ya, Pikachu.” He smiled happily and I continued to walk to the locker rooms with Hitoshi but stopped again. “I shouldn’t have been the reason you didn’t trick everyone.” I felt Denki’s eyes on me. “You should’ve stopped Mineta just because it was a mean thing to do. You’re not completely forgiven, but I can acknowledge I overreacted.” Hiva caught up with Hitoshi and Denki breathed out a guilty sigh.
“I can’t believe you like him.”
“I don’t get why he annoys you so much.” Hitoshi huffed I walked into the locker room to get changed. “You needed to chill out. I appreciate it, but I can handle things myself.” Hitoshi grumbled under his breath.
“You know Midoriya better than I do, what should I do?” he asked loud enough for me to hear.
“Honestly, I don’t really know!” I called. “All I know for sure is that you should try to outsmart him and make him answer your questions! You won’t be able to win against him with his Quirk!”
“Um, Hiva?” I hummed. “Hurry it up!” I zipped up the training top and stepped out. I sucked in a breath as I looked up at the hero.
“Shinsou, it’s been a while,” Endeavor said. “May I speak to you,” he gave Hitoshi a look, “privately?” Hitoshi and I looked at each other and then nodded at the hero in perfect sync. Hitoshi walked away and Endeavor put a hand on my shoulder. Being around the hero made my heart thump in my chest. It wasn’t from excitement; it was from fear. There was just something about him that terrified me. Maybe it was because I could still see the look he gave his son years ago. I struggled to stop the shiver when I remembered all the times I saw it in Ayame’s eyes.
“What is it you wanted to talk about, Mr. Todoroki?”
“I would just like to wish you luck in the sports festival.”
“What?” I questioned.
“Do your best,” the grip on my shoulder tightened and I winced, “and don’t do what you did before.” ‘Man, everyone remembers that, huh?’ I wondered. “I want to see what you can really do.”
“Why’s that?” Endeavor let go of my shoulder.
“It will be helpful for the future,” he answered. The hero walked away before I could ask what he meant. The shiver finally made its way through my body. I waited for a minute and turned to find Hitoshi.
---
I watched as Cementoss finished making the stage. “Hey guys, are you ready?!” dad shouted. “A lot’s happened, but it’s now come to this! A serious battle! You can only depend on yourself! Even if you’re not a hero, you’ll face lots of situations like that! You get it, right? Heart, skill, body, wisdom, and knowledge! Use all of that to rush up!” I sat in the front and leaned over the ledge. I was impatient for this to start. “Audience! The finals that you’ve all been waiting for are finally starting! Match number one- Even though he’s done well, what’s with that face? From the hero course, it’s Midoriya Izuku!” I watched Izuku walk onto the field. “Versus- First place, Hitoshi Shinsou from general studies!” I cheered loudly when I saw Hitoshi walk onto the field. “The rules are simple. Force your opponent out of bounds, or immobilize them! You can also win by making your opponent say, ‘I give up!’ Bring on the injuries! Because we’ve got our very own Recovery Girl waiting on standby! Put your morals and ethics aside for a moment! But of course, anything life-threatening is crap! It’s not allowed! Heroes should only use their fists to catch villains! Ready?! Start!” They both stood still but I could see that Hitoshi was saying something.
“Come on, Hitoshi, we talked about this,” I mumbled as I leaned over the ledge.
“Woah!” Denki exclaimed. He grabbed my waist and pulled me back a little. “Watch it, you might fall.” I waved my hand and paid no attention as I watched. Midoriya started to run forward but froze.
“YES!” I threw my hands up and almost punched Denki in the face. Ojiro stood up and groaned.
“I went through the trouble of warning him, too!” I turned to him and he looked at me. “I saw how you two got Mineta's points.” I shrugged and turned back to the fight.
“You do what you have to,” I said.
“You didn’t have to do that when you had the ten million the whole time!” Mineta whined. I rolled my eyes and looked at him.
“In this world, you have to stand,” I told him, “and sometimes others have to fall so you can get to your feet.” I heard a chuckle and looked over.
“Hey, hey, what’s the matter?” dad asked. “It’s the important first match! Liven things up! Midoriya! The match just started… and he’s completely frozen?!” A blonde boy was looking over the wall that separated Class 1-A from Class 1-B.
“That sounded quite villainous for someone in the hero course.” I scoffed. “Then again, I should’ve expected that from you.” I glared at him and took a step towards him.
“Excuse me?” Denki got in front of me and lightly pushed me back.
“It’s not worth it,” he muttered.
“I’m just saying,” the boy continued, “the daughter of a villain like Mind Games doesn’t really belong in Class A, does she?” I took another step forward. “Especially if she can’t even keep her anger in che-” The boy suddenly fell and a girl with orange hair in a ponytail looked over.
“Sorry about him,” she apologized.
“It’s fine,” I growled. I didn’t mean to but that kid had no right to compare me to Ayame like that. I sat down and turned back to the fight.
“Hitoshi Shinsou from general studies has gotten the better of Midoriya Izuku from the hero course!” dad shouted. “Who would’ve imagined this?! Will the bottom really overthrow the top?” I looked at where dad and pops were and glared. Hitoshi was nowhere near the bottom.
“That’s why I said the entrance exam wasn’t rational,” pops spoke up.
“What?”
“Here’s some basic data on the two of them,” pops answered. “Since it’s individual matches from here on out, I had someone compile it for me. Shinsou failed the practical exam for the hero course. Since he also applied for general studies, he probably knew that would happen.” He did but that didn’t make him any less disappointed. “His Quirk is very powerful, but the practical exam consisted of fighting faux villains. That gave an advantage to those with physical attack Quirks. Shinsou wouldn’t have been able to rack up any points with his Quirk.” I watched Izuku turn and start to walk out of bounds.
“What?!” dad cried. “Midoriya’s being so obedient!”
“Deku-kun, why?” Uraraka asked.
“If you go out of bounds, then you’ll lose the match!” Iida exclaimed.
“He’s so close,” I whispered. “A few more steps.” I saw Midoriya’s fingers start to glow. “No, no, no. One more, just one more step.” There was a large gust of wind and I knew it was from Midoriya using his Quirk. “No!” I jumped up and leaned over the ledge.
“Th-This is…! Midoriya’s stopped!” dad yelled. Everyone cheered and I groaned. This was his chance but now it was gone. Izuku ran at him and I saw Hitoshi’s mouth move as he spoke but I couldn’t hear what he was saying. Izuku pushed him back and Hitoshi punched him in the face.
“Come on, Hitoshi,” I mumbled. “You can do this.” Izuku continued to try and push him out of bounds. Hitoshi punched Izuku’s broken fingers and Izuku let go and moved behind him. “Come on.” Hitoshi tried to push him but Izuku grabbed his arm and the collar of his shirt and flipped Hitoshi over his shoulder. I put my forehead against the ledge.
“Shinsou is out of bounds!” Nemuri announced. “Midoriya advances to round two!” I looked up and turned.
“Hiva?” Denki grabbed my arm. I turned to him and raised an eyebrow.
“Relax, I’m just telling Hitoshi he did good,” I told him. “He’s gonna need to hear it.” Denki let go and I walked away. I blocked out the sound around me as I went to where Hitoshi would exit. ‘It’s a shame.’ I thought. ‘The entrance exam was made to keep people with Quirks like his out of the hero course.’ I clenched my fists. ‘It’s not fair but it’s how it is.’ I sighed. ‘My goal was to win this for me and pops but now there’s more to it.’ I looked up and saw Hitoshi. ‘Now I have to win for all of us.’ I smiled and he had a small, sad one of his own.
“You did great,” I complimented. I held my arms open and he fell into them. “I’m proud of you, I really am.” Hitoshi pulled away and I grabbed his hand. “Wait with me?” He nodded and we walked to one of the waiting rooms. “I never told you why I was taking this so seriously.” I squeezed his hand a bit. “I wanted to make pop proud.”
“He’s already proud of us,” he replied. I shook my head.
“Remember when he told us that a good hero always gets back up?” I asked. Hitoshi nodded. “I didn’t.”
“Hiva…”
“I keep falling and every time I stand someone knocks me down,” I continued. “Ayame knocked me down and I stayed there for too long. This is me standing up again. I’ll get knocked down again, I always do, but he needs to know that I’m trying.” Hitoshi took his hand from mine and put his arm around my shoulders. “And I want to know I’m trying. I want to know I’m doing better.” Hitoshi nodded. “Now I’m gonna win for you too.”
“Don’t.” We stopped outside the waiting room.
“I just want our name to be at the top,” I admitted. “I want us to be good. I want us to be heroes.”
“You want us to be different,” Hitoshi added.
“Yeah,” I agreed. “I took Ayame’s name so I could make it the name of a hero again and you did the same. One of us has to win this to prove that even though we’re her kids by blood, we won’t be her.” Hitoshi opened the door for me and I froze when I saw Sero. Hitoshi sighed and I cursed myself. “Whatever you heard, please forget it.” I didn't care that much but I wanted to keep my life before U.A. as private as I could. This was me starting over and that old life would ruin me.
“What was there to hear?” Sero questioned. He smiled and winked on his way out and I chuckled. I poked my head out the door.
“Sero,” he turned back to me, “thank you.”
“No problem,” he said with the wave of his hand. “Just remember that you have me as a friend if you need anyone.”
“It’s weird having friends," I mumbled with a smile.
“It’s weird seeing you with friends,” Hitoshi spoke. I shook my head and sat in a chair.
“I’m so tired,” I groaned as I slammed my head on the table. Hitoshi sat next to me. I started to drift off a few minutes later but my head shot up when the ground started to shake. “What the hell?” I got up and pulled Hitoshi with me as I ran down the hall. We stopped right before entering the arena. Ice covered about a side of it and Sero was frozen.
“I believe in you, I do,” Hitoshi assured me, “but can you really beat that?”
“We’ll just have to find out,” I mumbled. Todoroki looked at me over his shoulder before going to free Sero. ‘It really isn’t a game anymore.’

The Qualifier
The Bet before this
“Wh… Wh-What’s going on?!” Uraraka cried. Students from different classes blocked our door and I rolled my eyes. ‘I just wanna go.’ I thought.
“What business do you have with Class A?” Iida asked. I walked up to Izuku and leaned on his shoulder.
“We can’t get out!” Mineta complained. “What’d you come here for, anyway?”
“Scouting out the enemy, small fry,” Katsuki replied.
“Well, you are pretty small,” I said when Mineta pointed at him, clearly offended.
“We’re the ones who made it out of the villains’ attack,” Katsuki continued. “They probably wanna check us out before the sports festival. There’s no point in doing stuff like that. Out of my way, extras!”
“Stop calling people ‘extras’ just because you don’t know them!” Iida ordered as he chopped the air.
“I came to see what the famous Class A was like,” Hitoshi said as he stepped to the front of the crowd, “but you seem pretty arrogant. Are all the students in the hero course like this?”
“I’m pretty sure it’s just him,” I answered as Iida, Uraraka, and Izuku shook their heads quickly.
“Seeing something like this makes me disillusioned,” he went on. “There are quite a few people who enrolled in general studies or other courses because they didn’t make it into the hero course. Did you know that?” I stepped away from Izuku and took a step towards Hitoshi. “The school has left those of us a chance. Depending on the results of the sports festival, they’ll consider our transfer into the hero course. And it seems they may also transfer people out. Scouting out the enemy? I, at least, came to say that even if you’re in the hero course, if you get too carried away, I’ll sweep your feet out from under you. I came with a declaration of war.” I chuckled at Hitoshi and he turned to me. “Don’t think you’re not a part of this. I won’t go easy on you.” That stopped my laughing. My face turned serious and I pushed Katsuki away.
“And I won’t go easy on you. You’re my brother, sure, but when it comes to this, you’re no longer above everyone else on the list,” I told him. “If I have to, I hope I won’t, but if I do, I will take you down.”
“You won’t be so tough when I take a magnet to your face.” This made some people chuckle and we both had trouble keeping a straight face too.
“You won’t be so tough when I take my fist to yours during training,” I fired back as I lightly punched his cheek. “I was trying to be serious. You couldn’t have played along?” Before he could say anything, someone started yelling.
“Hey, hey!” The seriousness was back. “I’m from Class B next door! I heard you fought against villains, so I came to hear ‘bout it! Don’t get so full of yourself!” I rolled my eyes. “If you bark too much, it’ll be embarrassing for you durin’ the real fight!” Katsuki just walked out of the classroom. “You ignorin’ me, bastard?!”
“Wait a minute, Bakugo! What’re you gonna do about all this?” Kirishima asked and Katsuki stopped. “It’s your fault that everyone’s hating on us!”
“It doesn't matter,” Kat said. Kirishima made a noise of confusion and he continued. “It doesn’t matter as long as you rise to the top.”
“Damnit, you bastard!” the other student yelled.
“Shut it, will you?” The student turned to me and I walked away before he could start again. “This is ridiculous,” I mumbled as he shouted at me anyway. “I’ll be waiting for you, Toshi.” I waved at him over my shoulder.
---
I was down in the gym doing pull-ups and Hitoshi was lifting weights. The sports festival was the day after tomorrow so today was the last day to get in the usual training we did. We were still training tomorrow but it wouldn’t be as extreme as what we usually did. “Dad, come on!” Hitoshi called as he put the weights away. Pops wasn’t joining us for training. I expected him to sit and give pointers but he didn’t. It was probably because I was there. I sighed and let go of the bar.
“Toshi, why do you think pop’s being so weird around me?” I asked.
“What brought that up?” he questioned. I shrugged and Hitoshi did the same. “If I knew I would’ve told you.” I nodded and leaned against the wall. Pops seemed to only talk and be around me when he had to. It was like he couldn’t be in the same room with me and I had no idea why. It was causing a lot of tension between him and dad. We waited a few minutes for dad and he still wasn’t down.
“What’s taking him so long?” I questioned. Hitoshi shrugged and we went up the stairs.
“Dad!” we yelled. We walked out of the basement and Hitoshi handed me my flannel that hung by the door as he put on his own.
“Come on!” Hitoshi shouted as he walked to the living room. I buttoned the flannel as I followed him but he left his open. “Oh, great. You’re here.” I looked up and tilted my head to the side.
“Denki, what are you doing here?” I asked. He smiled and rubbed the back of his neck.
“I thought you could help me with fighting,” he answered. “You were really cool at USJ so I thought you could give me some advice.” I smiled and dad, who was standing behind him, nodded quickly.
“Sure.” Denki’s smile brightened. Hitoshi and I turned to start walking back to the basement. “He’s gonna hate himself in the morning.” Hitoshi chuckled evilly and nodded. We took off our flannels and put them back on the hooks on the back of the door. I straightened my gloves and looked back at Denki.
“Alright,” dad walked in front of us and Denki was behind us, “here’s what we’re gonna do. First, Hitoshi and Hiva. Kaminari, you’ll sit out and watch.” We all nodded.
“We have to see if you can handle it,” Hitoshi mumbled just loud enough for Denki to hear. I slapped his shoulder.
“Don’t say that,” I whispered. I looked back at Denki and a look of relief was on his face. “He might think he has a chance.” I heard a gulp and Hitoshi and I struggled not to laugh.
“Don’t bully the poor boy,” dad ordered. “Don’t worry, it’s not that bad.” Hitoshi and I looked at each other.
“It’s worse,” we said together. Dad glared at us and we shrugged.
“Get on the mat.” We nodded and did as dad told us. “Kaminari, I like you but if you keep staring at my kids like that, I’m kicking you out.” I looked over at Denki and he looked down at the ground with a blush. I looked down at my leggings and sports bra and then at Hitoshi’s bare chest and realized why there was staring.
“Really?” we asked as we threw our arms out.
“I’m sorry!” he apologized.
“Okay,” Hitoshi and I got into almost identical fighting stances, “ready,” we nodded even though it wasn’t a question, “go!” Hitoshi immediately punched at my stomach and I jumped back. I went to punch him but pulled my fist back before it could actually hit him. I did this a few times while dodging and blocking his attacks and he tried to block or jump away from my fake ones. He finally got used to it so I used it as a chance to actually punch him in the stomach. He doubled over and I swept his feet out from under him with my leg. I put my foot on his neck, not hard enough to stop his breathing but hard enough so he wouldn’t move, and let him sit up after a few seconds.
“Good,” dad complimented as I held a hand out to help Hitoshi up. “Kaminari, you’re up.” Hitoshi walked off and Denki took his place. “No Quirks. If you’re pushed off the mat or knocked over and down for three seconds it’s done. Don’t use all your strength, we learned that the hard way.” Dad and I looked at Hitoshi who put a hand to his nose. I broke it by accident when we were younger while training.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” Denki said quietly. He meant for only me to hear but dad and Hitoshi laughed.
“Oh, sweetie,” I chuckled, “you’re adorable.” His eyes widened.
“Okay,” Denki got into his stance and I fixed it before getting into mine, “ready,” we both nodded, “go!” Denki and I both stayed still for a second so I threw the first punch. He jumped out of the way. I tried to hit him again and he jumped away. It went like that way too long for my liking.
“Okay, I get you don’t want to hi-” A punch that went right between my hands and onto my mouth cut me off. “Ow, shit!” It wasn’t that hard, in fact, it barely hurt. I just wasn’t expecting that and ‘ow’ was the only reaction I could give.
“Sorry!” Denki squeaked.
“Don’t be, that was good.” I took that chance to grab one of his hands and twist it behind his back. I kicked the back of his knee and he was forced to kneel. I pushed his hand up between his shoulder blades to force him to lean forward and then pushed him to the ground. Denki turned his head enough to look at me.
“I win!” he announced with a smirk.
“I have you pinned,” I told him.
“Exactly.” I was confused and Denki used that to push up. I yelped and fell off him which led to me letting go of his arm. He pinned both hands down before I had a chance to get to my feet and leaned over me. I headbutted his chin and his grip on one hand loosened as he sat up. I got my hand out and I grabbed the wrist of the hand that still held my wrist down and pulled it off. I used it to pull him closer and then pushed his shoulders and kicked one of his legs to flip us over. I pinned both his hands and sat up so he couldn’t do the same thing I did.
“Done!” I got off Denki and he jumped up. “Hiva, that was good but you can’t get distracted. Kaminari, keep your comments to a minimum.” We both nodded but Denki’s head moved a lot quicker than mine. “Alright. Hitoshi, go.” He walked onto the mat and tapped his lip. I licked my lip and tasted blood. I just shrugged it off and got ready to fight.
---
“I’m going to have so many bruises tomorrow,” Denki complained as he sat in the back of the car with me. His head was resting on my shoulder and I patted it. “Seriously! You guys get way too into that.” He was right. Hitoshi and I take our fights in training a little too seriously. That’s why we have pain killers.
“Yeah, you got your ass handed to you,” I mumbled.
“Because you and your brother are too good,” he whined. I chuckled and ran my fingers through his hair. I looked at his face and my eyes landed on the bruise on his chin.
“Sorry about that.”
“Sorry for busting your lip,” he mumbled.
“Don’t worry about it.”
“Partially my fault,” dad added from the driver’s seat. “I forgot to mention our rule on face hits.”
“You don’t go for the face unless you think you can’t do anything else,” I said before Denki could ask.
“It’s there for the same reason we don’t use all our strength.” Dad looked at me through the rearview mirror.
“I didn’t mean to!” I exclaimed. “I still feel bad.” The car stopped and Denki huffed. We both got out of the car. I waved at him and got into the passenger seat as he walked up to his house. “Hey, Denki!” He turned to look at me. “You did pretty good.” He smiled and waved. I closed the door and we drove off.
“So,” dad sang.
“So what?” I asked. He smirked at me and I looked at him confused. “What?”
“You like him.” I blushed.
“No, I don’t.” Dad laughed and shook his head.
“Honey, I’ve never seen you look at someone like you look at that boy. You really like him.”
“No, I don’t,” I repeated. “I’ll admit I thought I did,” dad squealed, “BUT I realized the way I liked him was as a friend. I guess I’m not used to caring about someone as a friend so I assumed it was a crush. It’s happened before and it’s happening now.” Dad sighed and the rest of the drive was silent.
“Can I tell you what I think?” he asked when we parked in our driveway. “I think you’re scared and I think that’s okay. You’ve been through a lot and you have every right to be afraid of admitting something like this to yourself but it’s going to hurt you and him if you don’t.” I sighed. “He likes you just as much as you like him.” Dad reached out and took my hand. “You can tell me and the people in that house everything. We’re always on your side and we’ll always help you, even with something as simple as a crush.” I nodded.
“Maybe I like him a little,” I mumbled.
“Oh, honey, you’re way past ‘a little’.” I laughed and squeezed dad’s hand.
“Thanks.” He nodded and kissed my forehead.
“Of course.” An evil smile crossed his face as he unbuckled my seat belt. I squealed as he somehow managed to pull me over to the driver's seat despite my struggling. He opened the door, got out, and held me above his head as I laughed. He put me down to open the door and walk in and grabbed me the second I tried to run away.
“We have entered!” he announced. Hitoshi ran away and up the stairs before he could be brought into this.
“Coward!” I yelled. Dad and I laughed and he walked into the living room to throw me on the couch before flopping on top of me. “You’re squishing me!” Dad didn’t move and I was trapped under him. “Toshi, help!” I tried to push him off but he didn’t budge. I groaned when I felt more weight on me. “Toshi!”
“Yes?” he asked. I groaned and just laid there. ‘This is my life now.’ I thought.
---
“Man… I wanted to wear my costume,” Mina complained. It was almost time for the sports festival and I made the mistake of staying up all night. I couldn’t help it, I was anxious.
“To keep everything fair, we can’t,” Ojiro explained.
“I wonder what the first round’s gonna be…” Sato thought aloud.
“No matter what comes, we have no choice but to deal with it.” I looked at Tokoyami with a raised eyebrow.
“Right,” Shoji agreed with him.
“Well, aren’t you a bright ball of sunshine,” I teased Tokoyami.
“Everyone, are you ready?” Iida asked as he walked in. “We will be entering soon!”
“Midoriya,” I looked over at Todoroki as he walked to the boy.
“Todoroki-kun? What is it?” Midoriya questioned.
“Looking at things objectively, I think I’m stronger than you,” Todoroki told him.
“Huh?” Midoriya stopped for a second. “Y-Yeah…”
“But… All Might has his eye on you, doesn’t he? I’m not trying to pry about that. But I’m going to beat you.”
“Okay!” I exclaimed as I stepped between the two boys. “Todo, my guy, listen, love the energy but let’s save it for out there,” I pointed to the door, “because I’m real freaking tired and it’s far too early for this kind of intensity.” He stopped looking over my head at Midoriya and instead looked at me.
“I’ll beat you, too.” I snorted.
“Whatever you need to tell yourself,” I said as I patted his cheek and started to walk away. “You shouldn’t be starting a war you can’t win right before we’re about to start.”
“We’re not here to play at being friends,” Todoroki stated. I stopped and sighed. “So what does it matter?” He walked past me but stopped when Izuku began to speak.
“Todoroki-kun, I don’t know what you’re thinking when you say you’ll beat me, but of course you’re better than me. I think you’re more capable than most people… Looking at it objectively…”
“Midoriya, you probably shouldn’t talk so negatively-” Kirishima cut in.
“But,” Izuku interrupted, “everyone- The students from the other courses are aiming for the top with everything they’ve got!”
“As they should,” I mumbled. ‘Everyone should be trying their best during this.’
“I can’t afford to fall behind.” Todoroki turned to face him and I decided to step out of the way. ‘I’m so done with this.’ I thought with a sigh. ‘I just want a nap.’ “I’ll be going for it with everything I have, too.”
“Yeah.” I raised an eyebrow at Todoroki.
“That’s seriously all he has to say to that?” I asked myself. “‘Yeah’?”
---
“Hey!” dad announced and the audience cheered. “Pay attention, audience! Swarm, mass media! This year’s high school rodeo of adolescence that you all love, the U.A. sports festival, is about to begin! Everybody, are you ready?!” I shook my head. ‘Uh uh, not ready.’ “It’s time for the students to enter the first-year stage!" My head was already hurting. Fireworks were going off and people were cheering and I was just not a fan of it. “The U.A. sports festival! The huge battle where fledging heroes sharpen their swords once a year! Anyway, these are the guys, right?! The miraculous new stars who overcame enemy attacks with their hearts of steel! Hero course, Class 1-A, right?!” I kept my head down as we walked and blocked out all the noise around me but it was impossible to block out my dad's. “They haven’t been getting as much airtime, but this class is full of talent! Hero course, Class 1-B! Next up, general studies Classes C, D, and E!” I looked up and over at Hitoshi. I smiled at him and gave him the same signal we used at the entrance exam. He smiled back and copied what I did. His face went back to being serious and I looked back at the ground. “Support course, Classes F, G, and H are here, too! And business course, Classes I, J, and K! All U.A.’s first years are here now!”
“Time for the player pledge!” Aunt Nemuri exclaimed. Everyone started to talk about her and I rolled my eyes. “Quiet, everyone! Representing the students is Shinsou Hiva from Class 1-A!” I ignored the muttering of the other students as I stepped forward and climbed the steps of the stage.
“I just wanna say… I’m gonna win.” Everyone started booing and shouting at me and I glared. “Oi, shut the hell up! I’m not done.” There was more booing. “HEY!” Everyone stopped. “Thank you.” I bowed slightly and rolled my eyes. “I’m going to win because I’m going to try my best like all of the other students. I’m confident enough in my abilities to say to all of you that I’ll win. This isn’t me saying that I’m better than everyone because I’m not. This is me saying that I’m doing my best and that makes me number one. Everyone else is doing their best and it makes them number one too. A medal doesn’t take you to the top, your effort does. Everyone here,” I pointed to the students behind me, “are going to do what they can to win. They’re putting in the effort to rise to the top and I think that makes them all number one. Now,” I made a ‘give me’ motion with my hand, “boo me.” It was quiet. “See what happens when you listen? Anyway, good luck to all of you.” I walked away from the mic and mumbled to myself. “You’re gonna need it.” I looked up to where my fathers sat and dad had a hand to his face while pop shook his head. I looked at Hitoshi and I saw him facepalm and shake his head.
“Now, let’s get started right away,” Nemuri continued what she was saying before the pledge. “The first game is what you call a qualifier! Every year, many drink their tears here! Now, here is the fateful first game!” Some hologram appeared behind her and spun. “This year, it’s… this!” Obstacle race appeared. “All eleven classes will participate in this race. The course will be the outer circumference of the stadium- about four kilometers! Our school’s selling point is freedom! As long as you stay on the course, it doesn’t matter what you do! Now, take your places, everyone!” We walked over to the gate and I stayed towards the back of the group of students. One light went out, then the next, and then the last. “Start!” Everyone in front of me started running but I just stood.
“Time stops,” I sang. Everyone slowly stopped moving and all sound around the stadium stopped. I quickly ran through the crowd and went to the first obstacle which was just robots from the entrance exam. They had the one, two, three, and zero point robots but they were now frozen so I was able to run past with no trouble. I got to the next one and there were a bunch of wires stretching across a pit. “You’re a bit harder.” I ripped one of the wires out and used it to swing across. “Repair.” The wire jumped from my hand and went back to its place like it was never gone. I did this over and over until I got to the other side. I saw places on the ground that looked different from the rest. I found a suspicious place and dug to uncover a landmine. “They aren’t messing around, huh?” I picked it up and nothing happened and then threw it on the ground. Again, nothing happened so I left it and ran across with no issue. I stopped just before the finish line. “Time starts.” By now there was a dull pain in my head that got worse when dad started yelling.
“Okay, here’s the play-by-play!” I walked through the tunnel right when the last group of kids entered the tunnel. “Are you ready to do the commentary, Mummy Man?”
“You’re the one who forced me to come,” pops mumbled.
“Let’s get started right away, Mummy Man.” I chuckled. “What should we pay attention to in the early stages?”
“This part right now and the student in first place,” pops answered.
“What?!” dad cried. I stepped closer to the middle of the field and waved up. “What’s this? Shinsou Hiva is in first place! How?! It’s like she appeared out of thin air!” The audience was loud with whispers and mumbles but I ignored them and went to the stage to sit on the steps. I watched Todoroki freeze the ground and some people used their Quirks to get over it while others were frozen. I almost laughed when I saw Hitoshi riding some students so he could be carried over the ice. Mineta started using the balls from his head to bounce over the ice but he was knocked out of the air and sent rolling across the ground by one of the robots.
“Obstacles have shown up suddenly!” dad announced. “Starting with… the first barrier! Robo Inferno!” Todoroki froze the robots and ran between the legs of one of them. I sighed and leaned my head back against the steps. Aunt Nemuri sat beside me on the stage and let her legs dangle over the side.
“Wake me when there’s a kid in second place,” I muttered as I closed my eyes. I reached into my pocket and pulled out an Advil. ‘You are going to be my new best friend today.’ I thought as I pushed it through the foil and into my hand. I quickly swallowed the pill and leaned my head back as I waited for it to work.
“You should really get more sleep,” she told me. I just shrugged.
---
I slowly opened my eyes as the stadium filled with cheering. The first thing I noticed was that my headache wasn’t as bad thanks to my little nap but then I looked over and watched Izuku run through the tunnel. I laughed in disbelief and stood up. “How did- What?!”
“Right now, the second person back in the stadium is that man… Midoriya Izuku’s made a huge splash!” dad shouted. I ran over to him as he wiped tears from his eyes.
“How did you get second?” I asked.
“How did you get first?” he fired back. “I didn’t even see you. You just showed up at the end.”
“Congrats!” I exclaimed instead of answering his question. “Now,” I pulled his hand away from his face and hugged him, “stop crying. You did great.” I pulled away and he blushed at the compliment. I was going to go over to complement Katsuki but Denki came running over to me once he made it through.
“See, I told you you’d be getting first place!” he cheered. He panted and put his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. I smiled and rubbed the back of my neck as my face heated from my blush.
“And now, they’re finishing one after another!” dad continued. “We’ll make a list of the results later, but for now, good work!” Denki finally caught his breath and stood up straight.
“Honestly, that was so cool!” he exclaimed. “You were at the back and then- poof! I just hear you finished! Jeez, you’re so cool!” I chuckled and looked away as I stuttered. I was not used to getting compliments from people. I only got them from Hitoshi, dad, or pops and even then, it was embarrassing.
---
“The first game of the first-year stage is finally over,” Nemuri began. We gathered in front of the stage and I stood next to Denki. “Now, take a look at the results!” I was excited to see Denki in 24th place and Hitoshi in 27th. “The top 42 made it to the next round. It’s unfortunate, but don’t worry even if you didn’t make it! We’ve prepared other chances for you to shine. The real competition begins next! The press cavalry’ll be all over it! Give it your all! Now then, here is the second game. I already know what it is, but what could it be? What could it be? I just said it, and now here it is…”
“A cavalry battle?” Denki questioned when it appeared on the screen. “I’m bad at those…” I patted his shoulder and looked for Hitoshi. I caught his eye and he nodded. I nodded back and turned back to Nemuri.
“It’s not an individual event, so I wonder how it’ll work…” Asui thought aloud.
“Cavalry battle!” Mineta exclaimed as he appeared between me and Asui, making me jump a bit.
“Let me explain,” Nemuri said as if she heard Asui’s question. “The participants can form teams of two to four people as they wish. It’s basically the same as a regular cavalry battle, but one thing that’s different is… based on the results of the last game, each person has been assigned a point value.” Aunt Nemuri stopped when people started talking. She cracked her whip. “You guys don’t hold back even though I’m talking, huh?!” She quickly continued like there was no interruption. “Yes, that’s right! And the points assigned go up by five starting from the bottom. So 42nd place gets five points, and 41st gets ten points! And the point value assigned to first place is… ten million!”
“What now?” I asked. All eyes were on me and I gulped. ‘Well, this won’t go well.’
“That’s right,” Nemuri continued. “It’s survival of the fittest, with a chance for those at the bottom to overthrow the top!”

The Bet
Nightmares and Feelings before this
Hizashi walked down the stairs tiredly with an equally tired mummy Shota following. Shota walked off to the kitchen and Hizashi walked into the living room. He huffed at the unfolded blanket on the couch and fixed it before sitting down and turning on the TV. "The two of them together are awful," Hitoshi complained as he stomped down the stairs.
"Good morning to you too," Hizashi greeted his son. Hizashi heard Hiva's light footsteps. "Where's Kaminari?"
"Asleep," she muttered while pointing over her shoulder and up the stairs. "I need coffee." Hizashi chuckled and walked over to his daughter. He hugged her before she had the chance to walk into the kitchen. "What's this for?" She put her arms around her father.
"Just wanted to," he said before muttering "and because you're not going to school today" under his breath.
"What?!" she cried. Hiva tried to pull away to look at Hizashi but he kept her in his arms. It was too early for him to deal with the glare she was going to give him.
"Shota isn't going either," he added.
"Excuse me?" Shota called from the kitchen. "What kind of lies?!" Hizashi walked into the kitchen and Hiva and Shota started talking over each other to argue with him. Hitoshi just leaned against the counter with his coffee as he watched with amusement and a smirk. That smirk dropped when their blonde visitor entered the kitchen. Denki yawned and rubbed his eyes which quickly widened when he saw the three people arguing.
"Oh, boy," he sighed. Hiva then laughed victoriously but stopped and blushed when she saw Denki. They just stared at each other for a moment while the two adults kept going. Hiva cleared her throat and walked over to grab two mugs.
"Um, coffee?" she asked.
--- Hiva's P.o.V
After breakfast I threw Denki his bag and told him to get ready. Dad and pops were still arguing about school so I had no idea if dad would let him go. If I'm going, pops will most likely be able to go too. I heard a knock on my door as I straightened my uniform. "Come in." The door slowly opened and Denki poked his head in. "Hey." He smiled and walked the rest of the way in. He closed the door and leaned against the door. "Why so quiet?"
"Oh, um, I-I just..." I turned and chuckled at his stuttering. I watched him fiddle with the tie that was incorrectly done and put the pieces together.
"Need some help?" He blushed and nodded. "That's not something to be embarrassed about. I get it wrong sometimes too." That seemed to surprise him.
"I doubt that," he mumbled as I fixed whatever he did to this poor tie.
"Well, I'm not perfect," I told him. I finished the tie and patted it. "There ya go." I went on a search for my headphones and Denki looked around my room curiously. I found them and put them around my neck. "Are we going to go?" I turned and saw Denki holding the box I kept all my jewelry in.
"You should put these in," Denki said as he pulled out an earring.
"I should not," I disagreed.
"Come on," he whined as I took the box from him. "It makes you look cool." I sat and thought for a minute. "You said you'd think about it." I sighed and nodded.
"Just this once because you probably won't stop asking." Denki smiled and nodded.
"You're right, I wouldn't have stopped." I chuckled as I started putting in the earrings that would be mostly covered by my hair and then moved on to the ones that couldn’t be hidden.
"So," I started as I put the last piercing in, "how do I look?"
"As I thought, you look awesome." I tried to hide the smile the compliment caused but failed.
"Let's go," I muttered. "Toshi, you coming with us?!"
"No!" he yelled back. "I'll just go with dad!" I grabbed my bag and went downstairs.
"Bye!"
"Bye!" dad called back. I put on my shoes and Denki thanked my dad for letting him stay as he did the same. We walked out and started walking to school. Denki threw an arm around my shoulders and I laughed as it made me stumble into his side.
"I had a lot of fun," he told me. I smiled and lightly headbutted his shoulder.
"Good," I replied. The walk to school was silent and I stayed in my own little world until we got to the classroom.
"Shinsou!" I yelped as I was tackled in a hug.
"Hiva's still fine, Midoriya," I told the boy on top of me.
"Izuku," he corrected as he stood and pulled me to my feet. "I was really worried about you. I wanted to check up on you but I didn't want to ruin your and Kacchan's reunion and I didn't even know if you remembered me and-"
"Izu, it's fine," I told him.
"Oh! We need to catch up. It's been so long! Maybe we can hang out at my house soon. My mom misses you too. I was actually talking to her about you the other day." I giggled as Izuku rambled on excitedly.
"Hiva," Jiro interrupted, "how are you?"
"I would expect you to have stayed home today," Yaoyorozu added.
"I'm okay." They nodded.
"I'm sorry we couldn't help you two more," Yaoyorozu apologized. I knew she meant the USJ but I just waved it off.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just glad everyone made it out pretty much unharmed." I went to my seat and decided to listen to the conversation that resumed around me.
"Hey, did you watch the news last night?" Hagakure asked.
"Yeah," Ojiro answered.
"Did you see how everyone in class was on-screen for a second? I didn't stand out at all..."
"That's true," Shouji said.
"It's hard to stand out looking like that, huh?" Ojiro questioned.
"But man, all the channels made a big deal out of it," Denki spoke. That was true. Though we hadn't actually watched the news, we did hear what dad was listening to on the radio while cooking.
"I was surprised," Kirishima added.
"Can you blame them? The hero course that keeps pumping out pro heroes was attacked." I nodded along with what Jiro said.
"Who knows what would've happened if the teachers hadn't come when they did."
"Stop that, Sero!" Mineta cried. "Just thinking about it's making me wet myself-"
"Shut up!" Katsuki and I cut him off.
"Be quiet, scum!" he yelled.
"Honestly, how did you even get here," I mumbled as I rolled my eyes.
"But man," Satou continued as if Katsuki, Mineta, and I hadn't interrupted, "All Might was great. He pushed back those crazy strong villains."
"Yes," Tokoyami agreed, "his strength is worth wondering at."
"Everyone!" Iida shouted. "Morning homeroom is about to start! Stop talking and take your seats!"
"You're the only one standing," I told him. Iida grumbled to himself as he sat in his seat.
"Hiva, who's..." Mina leaned back in her chair and Tsu had to steady her, "... gonna teach homeroom today?"
"I don't know," I answered with a shrug. "My parents were discussing it earlier. I'm pretty sure pops is going to teach today."
"Morning," pops greeted.
"Huh, speak of the devil," I muttered.
"Aizawa-sensei, you're back too soon!" the class screamed.
"You're too much of a pro!" Denki commented.
"So you're alright, Sensei?" Iida asked.
"My well-being doesn't matter," pops mumbled through the bandages. "More importantly, the fight is not yet over."
"Fight?" Katsuki questioned.
"Don't tell me..." Izuku began.
"The villains again?!" Mineta whimpered.
"The U.A. sports festival is drawing near," pops finished.
"That's a super normal school event-" Denki pushed Kirishima's face away and interrupted his cheer.
"Wait a minute."
"Is it okay to have a sports festival so soon after the villains snuck inside?" Jiro added.
"What if they attack us again or something...?" Ojiro continued.
"Apparently, they think of it as U.A. showing that our crisis management system is solid as a rock by holding the event," pops answered. "Security will also be strengthened to five times that of previous years. Above all, our sports festival is a huge chance. It's not an event to be canceled because of a few villains. Our sports festival is one of Japan's biggest events. In the past, the Olympics were called a festival of sports, and the whole country was crazy about them. As you know, with reductions in scale and population, they're now a shell of their former glory. And now, for Japan, what has taken the place of those Olympics is the U.A. sports festival!"
"Of course, all the top heroes around the country will be watching," Yaoyorozu spoke. "For scouting purposes!"
"After we graduate, it's typical to join a pro agency as a sidekick," Denki said.
"A lot of people miss their chance to become independent after that and become eternal sidekicks, though," Jiro informed. "Kaminari, I feel like you'd be one of them. Since you're dumb."
"I'm sure he'll do fine." Denki turned to look at me. "What, you have potential." Denki quickly turned back around to face pops and I shrugged.
"Of course, joining a famous hero agency will get you more experience and popularity," pops added to what Jiro said. "Time is limited. If you expect to go pro, then the path to your future will open up at this event. One chance a year- a total of just three chances. No aspiring heroes can afford to miss this event. If you understand that, then don't slack off on your preparations!"
"Yes, sir!" we all replied.
"Homeroom is dismissed."
---
As I got up to leave for lunch a hand was placed on my shoulder. "Shinsou, we need to talk."
"About what, Todoroki?" I asked as I turned to face him. Instead of answering, he lightly pushed my shoulder. I chuckled and walked ahead of him. He moved to my side once we were in the hall and I followed him. Turns out we weren't actually going anywhere; he was just waiting for it to be empty.
"You can't let me win this time," Todoroki said. I scoffed.
"You seriously thought I would?" I asked. "No way, not this time. There's a lot more on the line." Todoroki nodded.
"Why did you let me win?" I was quiet as I tried to find the right words. It surprised me a bit that he remembered the fight we had when we were children.
"I knew that look he gave you," I answered. "I'd rather it be me." Todoroki tensed but it was barely noticeable. "I doubt it actually changed anything."
"It did." I looked up at him. "Not much, but enough." I nodded. "That's all I wanted." Todoroki turned to leave.
"I need you to actually try." Todoroki stopped and looked at me over his shoulder. "During All Might's lesson, you only used your right side. You barely tried. If we have to fight, use both. There's no point winning if it's only half earned." Todoroki didn't answer, just looked forward and continued. I sighed and followed after a moment.
"Hiva!" Mina called as I walked into the cafeteria. I looked around and saw her waving her arms. She made a come here motion when we locked eyes and I walked over. "We were talking about you." Denki blushed and looked away as I sat next to Mina.
"Come here, dumbass!" Hitoshi yelled. I turned and sent him a playful glare.
"One minute," I said as I stood. "What do you want?" I leaned against the table he sat at. I raised an eyebrow at one of the kids he sat with. "You got a staring problem or something?" They blushed and looked away.
"You forgot your lunch," Hitoshi told me as he pushed it across the table at me.
"Oh, thanks." He nodded and then slapped my hand away as I ruffled his hair.
"Hey," he grumbled. I laughed and turned to walk away but stopped when I thought I felt something hit the back of my head. I turned and saw a crumpled napkin by my heel.
"Really?" Hitoshi shrugged and looked up and away from me. I chuckled and picked it up. I threw out the napkin and plopped down next to Mina again.
"What are you going to do to prepare for the sports festival?" Mina asked.
"I'll probably do something with dad," I replied. "Pops is too hurt to train so Hitoshi will probably join us."
"I don't see why you need to train," Denki spoke through a mouthful of food. "You'll destroy us all." I chuckled.
"Yeah, right!" Katsuki exclaimed. "I could beat you any day!"
"I doubt that," I muttered. Mina, Sero, Kirishima, and Denki ‘ooh’ed.
"What did you say?!" he shouted.
"I'm just saying that I'm a lot stronger compared to when we were younger," I answered with a shrug. “I’m not sayin' you’re weak, I never would, I’m just saying we’re pretty equal in strength now.”
“Ooh! I just thought of something!” Mina squealed before Katsuki could say anything. This seemed to make Denki panic. He started to shake his head quickly. “We should do something with some of the other girls after the sports festival.” Denki sighed and relaxed against his chair.
“Um, sure, sounds fun,” I agreed. I looked behind Mina at Denki. “You okay, chérie?” He blushed and nodded quickly.
“He thought Mina was gonna- ow!” Sero stopped talking and winced while Denki sent him a glare.
“You guys are bad at hiding things,” I mumbled more to myself than them. “What are you hiding?”
“We aren’t hiding anything,” Denki answered calmly. He was glaring at all of them, daring them to say something.
“Yeah, totally believe that.”
“You know, I bet you could get first place in the sports festival.” I looked at Denki with a raised eyebrow and Katsuki did not seem to approve of this topic being brought back up.
“I could beat her any day!” Katsuki repeated.
“I bet she could get first place in all the challenges,” Kirishima added at the same time Katsuki spoke. I shook my head.
“No way,” I disagreed.
“Yes way!” Mina exclaimed. “Girl, you totally could! You got first in the entrance exam and in Aizawa-sensei’s test on the first day.” I blushed and shook my head while Mina nodded her head so fast, I’m surprised it didn’t fly off.
“Let’s actually bet on it,” Sero suggested. “If she gets first place-”
“-in each challenge,” Denki added.
“If she gets first place in each challenge…” Sero trailed off as he tried to think.
“Katsuki has to be completely okay with whatever place he gets while I’m around,” I said. “You can complain about it as much as you want as long as I’m not there.”
“If she doesn’t-”
“-she goes on a date with me,” Denki interrupted. His eyes widened and he covered his mouth when he realized he said it out loud. “I-I mean-”
“It’s settled!” Mina cut him off with a smirk. A blush stayed on my cheeks as we talked during lunch. The bell rang and we left to go to the classroom.
“Um, Hiva, I doubt you will, but if you don’t get first place you don’t have-” I held a hand up to stop Denki.
“I don’t mind,” I told him. “Besides, it doesn’t have to be a date, it can just be two friends hanging out and we can tell everyone it was a date if they're curious.” He nodded. I noticed his mood dropped a bit and it made me feel bad. If I’m being honest, I didn’t know how I felt about Denki. I thought I liked him but there was a little voice in my head that told me I was just tricking myself into thinking that. He seemed like a natural flirt so all the little comments and ‘you’ll fall for me’s were probably just jokes. Besides, I didn’t want another relationship and I definitely didn’t want a relationship with someone I couldn’t determine my feelings for. It would just get the both of us hurt and I couldn’t do that to either of us.

Good Memories
Friendship before this
Tumblr media
The first video made Katsuki blush from embarrassment and Hiva laugh loudly while the others cackled evilly. The voice in the background was Mitsuki's. Three toddlers were looking up at the camera. Izuku smiled happily, Katsuki looked proud, and Hiva had a slight pout. "Katsuki, what did you do?" his mother asked.
"I did Hiva and Izu's makeup!" the blonde child cheered. Mitsuki finally burst into laughter. The makeup was actually quite good, considering it had been done by a five-year-old, and it had been stolen from Mitsuki's room. He had put mascara on both and Hiva remembered being poked in the eye a few times. He put green eyeshadow on Izuku and purple on Hiva. He had used eyeliner to add extra freckles to Izuku's face and he gave Hiva a cat nose and whiskers. Hiva was crossing her eyes to try and look at the nose and whiskers and was pouting because she couldn't see them.
---
The next video looked pretty recent compared to the first. "Shota's going to kill us," Hizashi said from behind the camera. Hiva shrugged.
"Oh well."
"Forget childhood memories, this is a video so people know who the most likely suspect is along with motive when we inevitably go missing." Hiva turned to the camera and stuck out her tongue to display the new silver ball in the middle of her tongue.
"What? He's gonna kill us for doing this? C'mon, dad, you gave me the okay so put the camera away since everything's fine." There were other piercings covering her ears and face too. Small, silver hoops hung from three different spots on her upper helix on each ear and there were black studs in her lobe and upper lobe on each ear as well. She had a nostril piercing on the left side of her nose. The small diamond stud was only visible because of how the light hit her face. She had black studs under her lip in the form of snakebite piercings.
---
"Where are those?!" Denki asked Hiva.
"Upstairs," she replied. "Once they healed, I took them out since people said they made me look 'villainous’ and ‘scary'. They're also not very professional so I had to stop wearing them around school. I just wear them around the house now."
---
"So dead," Hizashi muttered. "I shouldn't have let you do this. Didn't that hurt?"
"A little but I'm pretty good with pain so..." Hiva shrugged. "Maybe it'll hit me later."
---
"It did, in fact, hit me later," the Hiva next to Denki stated. She then winced like she was witnessing the pain again. "Ouch."
"When did you get them?" Mina asked.
"That and the lip piercing was about a year ago but I did the ears and nose when I was thirteen," Hiva answered.
"You should wear them," Kirishima said. Hiva shrugged.
"You should!" Denki exclaimed. She looked at the boy and sighed.
"I'll think about it."
---
The next video played. Hitoshi was laughing loudly and evilly with the camera pointed towards the roof. "The incident!" Hiva exclaimed. Laughter came from upstairs. "Shut up!"
"What's The Incident?" Denki asked.
“When we got older, we were each in charge of the other’s DVD and I kept getting only embarrassing videos of Hitoshi so he kept doing whatever he could to get at least one of me.”
---
"Hitoshi, what did you do?!" Hizashi suddenly cried as he ran into the camera’s view. Hiva was on the roof and dancing around without a care in the world. Hitoshi was still laughing. Hiva blushed while the teens next to her laughed. Shota quickly climbed to the top of the roof and knocked Hiva out of the trance Hitoshi put her in and before climbing back down.
"New rule," Shota mumbled as he kept his scarf around Hiva so she couldn't kill her brother, "no more using your Quirks."
---
The next video started. Hiva was curled in a ball against the arm of the sofa. She pushed the glasses on her face up as Hitoshi walked over to her with an evil look on his. He handed her a box and she looked at it suspiciously.
---
"When did you need those?" Katsuki asked.
"After we moved, I needed glasses," Hiva replied. "I usually wear contacts."
---
"Merry Christmas." Hiva gave her brother the same look she gave the box. She opened the box and screamed. Throwing the box to the side, she got as far from the thing as possible.
"Prends-les! Brûlez-les! Tue-les! Tuez-les avec le feu!"
"Hitoshi, what did you d- AH!" Hizashi screamed and joined his daughter. "Get those out of my house!" Shota and Hitoshi laughed. "Shota!" Hizashi looked ready to cry and Hiva was getting there.
"They're fake!" Hitoshi cried through his laughter. "It was pop’s idea!"
"What?!" Hiva and Hizashi shouted. Shota just shrugged. Hiva rushed over to the box and looked in.
"Vous cul!" Hiva took a handful of whatever was in the box and threw it at her brother. Hizashi chased Shota with his own handful of whatever was in the box and Hitoshi tackled Hiva.
---
"You know another language?" Sero asked excitedly. Hiva nodded.
"Ayame made me learn French," she replied.
"What were those anyway?" Kirishima questioned.
"Fake bugs," Hiva answered with a shiver. Denki chuckled slightly and she smacked his shoulder.
---
The next showed a very angry two-year-old Hiva with a neutral-looking Hitoshi by her side.
"Why is she so mad?" Ayame asked.
"Not to assume, but I think it's because you put the poor girl in a dress," Hizashi told her. Baby Hiva did look like she wanted to burn the outfit. "Sweetheart, I get she needs to look nice since it’s a family picture, but she hates pink." The dress was a light pink that looked quite nice on the child. Hiva, however, was not a fan. Whoever was holding the camera put it down.
"She's a baby, how can she hate things?" Ayame tried to pick the girl up but she stumbled over to Hizashi along with her brother. "Daddy's girl." Hiva stuck her tongue out at the woman and Hitoshi copied his twin, making their mother gasp and Hizashi laugh.
---
The next video was of Hiva and Hitoshi and looked like the most recent. They both had whiskers and a cat nose drawn on their faces. Both had cat ears and tails that matched the color of their hair. They also had on black long-sleeved shirts and black jeans with rips in them and a black choker around their necks.
"Shota scoot over," Hizashi ordered. Shota moved into the frame and had the same costume as the twins but his ears and tail were black. The three of them looked miserable.
"You know, when we agreed to this, we weren't expecting pictures," Hiva told him.
"Bold of you to assume that I'm just taking pictures," the blonde replied. All three groaned as Hizashi joined them with his own costume of blonde cat ears and a tail. "Say 'Halloween'!" Everyone forced a smile and did what they were told. Hiva and Hitoshi ran off the second they could and Shota followed not long after.
---
The next video played and Hiva chuckled since she knew what was happening. This was one she decided to take herself. It was when she finally moved on and she recorded the moment to remind her. Her family, of course, each had their opinions about what she was about to do. "Okay, tell me again what's going on," Shota's voice was heard.
"Arson," Hizashi, Hitoshi, and Hiva answered.
"Why?"
"If you can't burn the person, burn their shit," Hiva replied as she pulled out matches. Hitoshi took them from her.
"No more flammable objects for you," he said, causing her to pout.
"You cannot burn his things," Shota tried to reason.
"Actually, we can, we just shouldn't," Hiva started, "and it was left here so it's fair game."
"She's got a point," Hizashi told his boyfriend. Shota sighed and walked onto the screen. "It's all here, right?" Hiva nodded and snatched the matches back from Hitoshi. "Light it."
"I'm still against this," Shota mumbled.
"What if it was an accident?" Hiva asked. They gave her a confused look. "Like, if someone suddenly pushed my arm," she gave Hitoshi a look as she lit the match, "it would be an accident." Hitoshi nudged Hiva and she made a big show of dropping the match. "Oh, no," she said sarcastically. "Whatever shall we do?" Everyone looked at each other and walked away.
---
"You want your things?" Hiva asked. This was something Hitoshi recorded just because he thought she might want it.
"Yes, I want my things," Haruko said.
"One minute." Hiva walked into the kitchen.
"Here." Hitoshi handed his twin a large bowl and she nodded to him.
"Here you go!" Hiva exclaimed happily as she handed her ex the bowl of ashes.
"What the hell is this?" he asked.
"What's left of your things," Hiva replied innocently.
"Haha, very funny. Where's my stuff?" Hiva pointed to the bowl.
"I already told you, it's right there."
"You burned my things?"
"It was an accident," Hiva said. "You have your stuff so... bye-bye!" Hiva shoved him out the door and smiled as he angrily banged on the door. "That felt good. Like, really good."
---
The next video started with horrible singing and it was one of Hitoshi’s attempts to catch her doing something embarrassing. "Hiva, what are you doing?" The door to her room opened and Hiva pulled Hitoshi in.
"Toshi, listen, listen!" she whispered excitedly. She dragged him to the window and pointed. They got a view of Haruko under the window with a boombox in his hands.
"It's awful," Hitoshi complained. Hiva winced when his voice cracked and laughed.
"I know!" she cheered. "And it's so cliche. There's a boombox and everything." Hiva suddenly started rushing around her room and Hitoshi put the camera down and started helping her. "Get the amp! Get the amp!"
"What are you planning?" he questioned. Hiva had an evil look on her face as she attached her electric guitar to the amp. She put her right foot on it and rested the guitar on her leg. The music stopped.
"Hiva, I'm sorry!" Haruko shouted. Hiva looked at Hitoshi and faked a pout.
"Did you hear that? He's sorry," she said. "Connard. Guess what?!" Hiva turned the amp up. "I got a song for you, too. It goes like this!" Hiva played a chord on the bass. "Va te faire foutre! If you need a translation," Hiva put the guitar down and walked to the window, "here!" She flipped him off. People started to clap and Hiva laughed. There was clapping coming from downstairs and you could hear Hizashi yell "Tell him, sweetheart!" The neighbors that heard were cheering her on.
"Hiva, please!" The neighbors booed him and there was another shout from her father.
"Nope! Get over it!" Hiva yelled. “All you’re doing if humiliating yourself! Save what little is left of your dignity and leave!” He went to say something else but then he was shot with water. Hitoshi and Hiva fell to the floor laughing. "Pops got him with the hose!"
"You know, it's getting hard to keep these assholes off my lawn," Shota could be heard saying. Hiva and Hitoshi managed to laugh louder.
---
"I don’t know much about him, but I think all that was deserved," Denki mumbled as he continued to play with the beanie he had stolen.
"Can I have that back?" Hiva asked. Denki looked at her like she was crazy.
"No! This is mine now." Hiva sighed and laid in his lap with her legs over the arm of the couch.
---
The next video started with a view of the front door. Two purple-haired seven-year-olds walked through and one had hair cover their right eye. "How was the first day of school?" Hizashi asked suspiciously.
"Good," the kids said together.
"What's with the hair, Hiva? And where are your glasses?"
"Nothing," she replied, "and my glasses are in my bag."
"Sweetheart, the truth."
"That is the truth."
"Mhm, Hitoshi?"
"She's telling the truth," he told his father.
"Okay, Hiva, no Hitoshi," Hiva's jaw dropped at Shota's punishment, "and Hitoshi, no Hiva."
"Why?" they whined.
"It's the only punishment that works," the black-haired male told his friend’s children. Hiva sighed and moved her hair away to show her black eye.
"What happened?" Hizashi asked as he knelt at his daughter's side.
"It was awesome!" Hitoshi suddenly exclaimed. "Some older kid was picking on someone and Hiva went over and told him to stop and then he kept going and Hi-"
"Toshi, breathe," Shota cut him off. Hitoshi took in a big breath before continuing.
"Hiva pushed him away and then he punched her and she punched him and then he fell."
"Did you win?" Shota asked.
"Shota!" Hizashi exclaimed.
"It's not important," he explained, "I'm just curious. Did he leave?"
"Nope!" Hitoshi answered.
"What did he do?"
"Lay there," Hiva answered. Shota and Hizashi's eyes widened.
"Lay there?" Hizashi questioned. Hiva nodded. “Why is my child scarily strong? You're seven! You shouldn't be able to knock people out with one punch.”
"It was so cool!" Hitoshi cheered. "He was, like, this big!" He put his hand in the air to show that he could've been a good head taller than Hiva. "One punch!" Hiva pulled her glasses from her bag.
"He broke my glasses though and called me a Quirkless geek," she said as she handed her broken glasses to Hizashi. "Sorry." Shota knelt down at her other side and ruffled her hair.
"Don't worry about it, squirt," he told her. "You did good." He then noticed her hand and saw that it was still red from the punch. "We might need to work on your swing a bit, though."
---
"Quirkless?" Denki asked. Hiva nodded with a yawn.
"My Quirk came really late," she replied.
---
The next video was of, what looked like, a six-year-old Hiva. "Say it again," Shota said with a chuckle. Hiva sighed before repeating her previous sentence.
"I said I'm not cute. I'm a being of darkness that's super scary." She had a scowl on her face.
"Mhm," Shota hummed, "you know you're a lot less scary when you can't see anything, right?" He handed her a pair of glasses and she snatched them from him and put them on. "Better?" Hiva huffed and gave a quick nod. The group of friends laughed at little Hiva.
---
"Come on," a woman's voice heard. "Do your best." An eight-year-old Hiva nodded and walked to the middle of the large yard.
"She can't beat Shoto," a deep male's voice was heard. Shoto faced her.
---
"Why did you two need to fight?" Kirishima asked. Hiva didn't answer as she looked around for the remote.
---
"Why are you recording?" Endeavor asked the woman.
"Hizashi wants videos of Hiva and Hitoshi as they grow up," Ayame explained. "It’s stupid but I’m getting her beating your son recorded. It gives me bragging rights with proof."
"Go!" Endeavor called. Both children stayed still.
"Let's get this over with," Shoto mumbled. The ground froze over and Hiva was trapped in a block of ice.
"As I expected, she isn't worth-" There was a cracking sound that cut the hero off, and the ice surrounding the girl flew in all directions.
"Cool!" Hiva cheered. She didn’t seem to fully understand that this was a real fight, not a game. “My turn! I'm on fire." Hiva was surrounded in flames as she jumped at the boy. He moved out of the way and she swung her arm around in time to grab his. He ripped his arm away and jumped back. The fire around Hiva stopped and you could clearly see the burnt skin that it left behind. The children faced each other. Shoto moved first this time and Hiva moved easily. She was going to attack again but she saw something behind the camera that made her freeze. A look of realization and what looked like fear crossed her face. She stopped and let herself get trapped in the ice again. This time she didn't break out though you could hear her struggling like she was trying to.
"She may have lost, but she has potential," Endeavor commented as Shoto thawed the ice.
"So...?"
"We'll talk," the hero answered Ayame's unfinished question. Hiva fell from the ice to the ground.
"Good game, Shinsou," Shoto said as he held his hand out to Hiva. Hiva smiled up at him.
"Good game," she replied as she grabbed his hand.
---
Hiva finally untangled herself from Denki but it was already too late. The DVD was done after that video and it had played to the very end. Everyone looked towards Hiva, confused and she sighed. There were a few playdates with Todoroki after that that were completely forgotten about once Ayame left. Time with Todoroki was awkward and neither of them knew what to do around the other. They also didn’t like each other much so if there wasn’t awkward silence, there was angry fighting that got both of them in trouble.
“Sorry," Hiva apologized. "I coulda sworn I made a new disk without that. Guess I put the wrong one on the shelf. Anyway, what do you wanna do now?"
