#had a dentist appointment this morning #then had to go to work #bought myself a few things #got home around 8:20 #had dinner #watched a bit of gilmore girls and supernatural #then had to unpack groceries #and almost had a meltdown #i feel like i’m doing so much around the house #and nobody else is doing anything #and like i was at work all day after my appointment #and it just feels like so much of the organization/cleaning of the house is on me #i’m so fucking exhausted #and i have to work an 8 hour shift tomorrow! #and i couldn’t even actually cry because i always shove it down! so. #anyway #just showered and now am gonna go to bed #it’s almost 11 so not bad i might read a bit of fanfic if i have the brain power #vent post ig lmao

#amphibiuary2023 #hoo boy I put this one off for so long because I started it and was like #ehhhh this is not as fun as I was expecting lol #still had fun! just not my favorite thing to do #which is a good thing! #because I bought this at work a few years (!) ago and I keep having to stop myself from buying more ceramaic figures #every time we get more in because they are SO CUTE but I DON'T NEED THEM #and I think actually painting this one has cured me of that desire lol #this is a flattering angle and doesn't show his flaws lol #I put some of that snow texture paint on the back intending it to look like toad skin but it looks more like he is diseased #also! he lights up! but! when you turn the light on you can see all the poorly done brush strokes D: so the light will stay off :) #oh shoot I just remembered I meant to do a gloss top coat oh well I'll get to that later have a matte frogge

sometimes while reading review of history books on amazon i come across one that seems to think the book is fiction. i don't mean they bought the book in the mistaken belief that it was and now they're complaining about that, i mean they've read the book and they're saying it's quite good but a bit dry and goes off on odd tangents and the characters were poorly-developed so they found it a bit difficult to get into the story.

i'm going to chose to believe this is just people who read almost exclusively fiction failing to adapt their review vocabulary when discussing a work of non-fiction, because the alternative's just a bit much for me to accept.

#it's not just alison weir books either - i could imagine someone getting a few pages in before it clicked they'd bought the other kind #(some of her bad reviews are own fault for not doing an iain (m) banks but oh well that's her decision to make or not make) #i myself have occasionally bought the wrong kind of book by accident but you can usually tell right away can't you? #does it open with a quote from a dead historian or does it open with a woman describing her own appearance in the first person? #are there sex scenes full of euphemisms or a well-footnoted paragraph on 16th beliefs about the uncontrollable horniness of women? #is the venerable bede cited as a source or does he show up to make love to the protagonist? things like that. certain signs one might spot. #history fandom

i had a dream last night where i was trying to put together a piece for an art final in one afternoon (because apparently i was taking an art class? i kept having lucid moments of hey i’m not even taking a real art class but i was content to still do the project) and actually i remember very clearly what i was planning and i have all the stuff for it i think i should recreate the dream art final piece

#i was doing a giant collage and i was cutting up bits of colorful + textured paper and running them through a printer over and over #again so that the words were overlapping to make an interesting texture and i was moving them around to make an image and i don’t #remember exactly what it looked like but it was an underwater scene and i can remember a few of the fish and coral structures in relative #detail so i think i’m gonna do it why not i do not have a big enough canvas (it was bigger than me in my dream) but i do have some #30in x 40in canvases (originally bought for giant self portraits of me bc i’m vain lmao) but perhaps one could be spared for this? #i also do have a giant sketchbook but i’m unsure if the paper could hold the weight of what i’ll need to do to it. hmmm #i also have a wall….. but i think i was only granted permission to paint over it smoothly and i hate painting smooth i need texture and i #doubt glued paper would be easy to take off if needed. sad. i really do want to do something to a wall some day. maybe i should just build #myself a giant canvas so it can be moved? it would have to be able to fit through the door though :/ #what about a bunch of smaller canvasses that slot together to fill the whole wall? that would be kinda cool i can work with that #maybe not for this project though that would be a lot of work bc if i’m gonna do a whole ass wall i’ll need to measure it n shit and then #i wouldn’t want the canvases to fit as squares i’d want them to be cool and interesting shapes so i’d have to build them myself #hmmmmmmmm. i will think about that later perhaps when i get my own place . it will be epic though i assure you #so i can add some supports to my giant sketchbook paper to keep it sturdier or perhaps i could use a giant canvas. decisions decisions #i will think abt it after i get her up how much colored/printed paper i have (a lot bc i get some every time they’re on sale at micheals #because i have a problem) and i should cut them all to like 8x11 so they’ll slot through the printer so i can cut them up after? #or perhaps i will cut them up before so i can get the vision right? there will be a lot of layers to this i know the pov of the one in my #dream was from the sea floor but near a reef so i will need to work on perspective a bit so maybe a nice big preparatory sketch for a rough #placement of everything then extra details i can come up with as i go? the fish and things will need to be layered a lot but once the base #colors are on i can’t really sketch it out. hmmmmm. i’ll contemplate some more i think

god I’ve become a retail therapy girly

#I’ve had a shit few days and my solution to that has been to order things online #I just ordered some nail polish (in my defence it was on sale and came with a free additional bottle) #and like. really I work so that I can afford to do shit like this (I still live at home so my bills are mostly car and school related) #and I like getting things that bring me joy! shopping is fun! #but I also feel guilty buying shit for myself #especially this close to Christmas (even though I know nobody is buying this nail polish for me so if I’m gonna get it I have to buy it) #idk. Part of me knows that even if I like. Waited until my next pay check so I didn’t feel as silly about it #I still would have wanted those polishes and would have bought them anyway #bc I’ve already been considering them #so better to get them cheaper and get a bonus item #but still. even though I am in my era of fiscal irresponsibility I am self aware enough to feel bad about it #I should start going to therapy again instead of just buying shit #that would be better #and cheaper #however. that requires me to talk about my feelings! and buying nail polish means that I get happiness and cool looking nails!
