the way you say you’re falling into a mackenyu rabbit hole but I feel like I’m falling by your side every time I discover something new or come see your reblogs of him 😔🙏🏽
Oh yes come with me, babes. I’m literally just going down the rabbit hole and it’s bad and I could always use company 🖤
So far my favorite of the things I’ve watched is Overdrive, Tomorrow Surely I Will Love You Again (the amount of sadness and angst in this is just so heartbreakingly amazing), Let’s Go Jets, Our 30 Second Sessions, Knights of the Zodiac, Chihayafuru part 1,2, and 3, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, and Brave: Gunjyo Senki. (This last one is not a fav though. Like I give it a ⭐️ because the storyline and his character are just infuriating so no I wouldn’t write shit for this one lol).
I still have a LOT more to watch but so far I’m a complete whore for his OPLA Zoro (because anime Zoro also is my weakness) Enishi (because I love assholes) and his character in Overdrive, Naozumi Hiyama (because again, I love assholes).

映画『ブレイブ -群青戦記-』特報【2021年3月12日(金)公開】/  Brave: Gunjyo Senki
High-schooler Nishino Aoi is a history nut who's in the archery class at his school. Due to his skill in archery, he sometimes thinks that he's more suited to be in the Sengoku period of Japan. When a mysterious fog covers the school, Aoi gets his chance to experience the Sengoku period first hand as the entire school is transported to a time period Aoi believes to be the eve of the Battle of Okehazama (where Oda Nobunaga crushed the powerful Imagawa and rose to power). So things are not as bright as he might have imagined when Samurai and foot soldiers stormed the school. Will Aoi and his friends be able to survive this deadly era?
Naturally, Oda Nobunaga will appear in this film and I’m pretty excited to see Miura Haruma appearing as Matsudaira Matoyasu aka Tokugawa Ieyasu, as I loved his role in Onna Joushu Naotora and could not think of a better actor to potray a young Tokugawa Ieyasu.

binging brave: gunjyo senki again because i love crying and laughing simultaneously.
it's become one of my favorite movies and i love the storyline so much. but that ending gets me every time 😭
if i could i would rewrite that ending. it's the same ending in the manga too and it just doesn't make sense. everyone is saved but the main has to stay behind and be remembered by those who stayed in the future through history facts? at least make him reincarnate or have the dimension breach happen again but in the future.
it's heavy on the history side, probably also why the only translator for it dropped it. but as a history fan i would eat that shit up. it had so much potential and i get annoyed when i see the way it was brushed under the rug.
sorry for the rant haha. i just really love the story and think it could have gotten more.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, Love, Life and Goldfish, Banzai! Here is Lover Road, Brave: Gunjyo Senki, Grave of Love, Shimajirou to Sora Tobu Fune Japanese Film Trailers
Happy weekend, everyone!   I hope that you are all well. In normal times, as a member of the Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF), I’d be over in Japan watching films and meeting people. AND EATING OKONOMIYAKI! Instead, Covid-19 struck and it has been a year of keeping safe and rebuilding. I’ve been going into work occasionally but spent more time at home and this has been my situation for this…

Brave: Gunjyo Senki live action (群青戦記)
Release Date: 2020
Students, including Aoi Nishino (Mackenyu Arata), take part in class and sports activity at a prestigious high school. Aoi Nishino is a member of the school's archery club. He practices archery studiously and doesn't socialize much with the other students. His childhood friend Haruka Seno (Hirona Yamazaki) is also a member of the archery club, but she worries about Aoi Nishino. One day, thunder strikes the school grounds. After that, the ordinary lives of the students changes drastically. Many samurai descend on the school grounds. It appears that the entire school has traveled back in time to the Sengoku period. Making things worse, they realize that they are in the time right before the Battle of Okehazama takes place.

Honnōji Hotel (2017)
Watched this interesting and lighthearted movie, starring Haruka Ayase as Mayuko Kuramoto who finds herself lost at a crossroad after being retrenched from her corporate job in Tokyo and not knowing what she really wants in life or what she’s really good at, drifting away through life with no heading while searching for her place in life.
Everything changed when she arrived at Kyoto where she had trouble finding a hotel for an overnight stay due to the overcrowding of tourists and fate has it that she encounters a vintage looking hotel suited at the corner of the traditional Kyoto district which happens to have a vacancy. Her adventure begins when she used the elevator which transports her through time.
When she emerged from the elevator, she finds herself stepping into the Honno-ji Temple of the Sengoku Era and coming face to face with the Samurai and the first unifier of Japan itself, Oda Nobunaga and his page, Mori Ranmaru, whom she initially mistook for Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who would later became the second unifier of Japan.  She got to know more about the ruthless and cold Oda Nobunaga in person whom later changed her perspective of things in life when he said, “It does not matter whether your ambition is small or big, what matters is you try.”
But things took a turn when she realized what day it was, the eve of the Honnouji Incident where Akechi Mitsuhide would led a rebellion leading to the death of Oda Nobunaga, and so she finds herself at a crossroads again in deciding between warning him of his impending death that would alter the course of history or let history run its course and let him die.
My Review
Overall, it’s a lighthearted entertainment movie meant to take you away from the present on her adventures to the past, something that is not to be taken too seriously, as it’s more of a fiction than a historical drama. And it also brings you back to the Kyoto you know now if you’ve been to Japan, such as the  Higashiyama Ward, Geisha District of Gion and Kamogawa River. Since we can’t travel to Japan now, this is one way of escaping there temporarily.
While Oda Nobunaga is indeed an unorthodox person in real life who is interested in everything extraordinary such as Yasuke, the black samurai who ended up serving him, which explains his same curiosity in this film with Mayuko and her peculiar attitude and clothing, which is deemed rude by people of the court of that era and their funny attempts to restrain her to prevent her from provoking their Lord, Oda any further from unleashing his wraith upon them all.
He’s still a controversial historical figure known for his ruthlessness and coldness which ultimately led to Akechi’s Rebellion as there are those who served him that is displeased with the way he’s behaving and treating his retainers as of late and the way he’s been running the clan. Another reason I’m looking forward to watch the rest of the Taiga Drama Awaiting Kirin to know why Akechi decided to rebel against the Lord he swore to serve and protect.
My Recommendations
Speaking of Taiga Drama, the first Haruka Ayase film I ever watched was Yae No Sakura, where she stars as a real life historical character, Yae Niijima, the woman that would defend the Aizu Castle against the Imperial Forces during the Boshin War, while Takeko Nakano, led the female fighters out to meet them on the battlefield. I loved her performance that I began watching more of her films ever since, including this one and I confess, she’s very beautiful too.
So if you’re a fan of Haruka Ayase but have never watch this or Yae No Sakura, I’d recommend you to start watching them. Or if you’ve never watch her films before you can start with these two as well, they’re definitely worth watching.
And if you like this time traveling type of films, there’s a new one coming up,  Brave: Gunjyo Senki. It’s about a school that is shrouded by a mysterious fog that magically transports them back to Sengoku, the same time of Oda Nobunaga as well. While Honnoji Hotel, takes place on the eve of Honnoji Incident, this film takes place on the eve of the Battle of Okehazama where Oda Nobunaga defeated the powerful Imagawa Clan.

one of the things i like most about working on addicting taste is the research into history of the time period rurouni is set in. i am an absolute history geek and i want to make the fic as authentic and cool as i can, main reason why it takes me so long to put a chapter out 😂
was just researching something for ch 8 and i ended up on brave: gunjyo senki lore accidentally 😭
i absoluty love that movie and the possibility of a fic is there if you want it 👀 though my other wips need attention first
