last song: St Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) by John Parr from the St Elmo's Fire soundtrack (clicky link), because the delivery driver was blasting it when he dropped off a parcel and I was instantly catapulted back to 1985 and hovering in front of the radio ready to whack record the moment they played it, because it was my absolute number one favourite song (i still love it).

currently reading: Rereading the Liaden novels by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, because I just realised there's two new ones I missed. I'm just about to start Mouse & Dragon.

last movie: Polite Society! Highly recommend!

currently craving: pierogi! But it's a craving I can satisfy since a dear friend found somewhere nearish to me that makes them AND delivers, so for Xmas I received a freezer full of delicious dumplings.

first ship: geez, I have no idea. It was maybe Vanyel/Tylendel? Since I'm not under affirmation, I'm gonna go with them.

currently working on: oh boy, well, fic wise I've got 10 Steve/Bucky WIPs, but the main two I'm focussing on are the sequel to On a Pale Horse and an 80s movie AU. Fibre wise, I just wound the warp for a cowl and I'm about to wind a second warp for a second cowl and then the warp for a mobile phone pouch I want to make, plus I have a foxes inkle band on the inkle loom that's almost finished. And I only have ten more days of leave!

Where Are You Going by @adiduck

They’ve both heard all the philosophical bullshit, of course. Poems about your soul forever seeking its other half, impassioned treatises they were supposed to read in high school English about how you know where your own limbs are, quotes from long-dead guys about physical distance but hearts taking up the same space--that kind of bullshit. Maverick never put much stock in that kind of thing--he’d hated school. It probably shouldn’t have been surprising that Ice also really did not care about the science or philosophy--they were supposed to be perfect for each other, after all. (Or: There’s a handshake in the O Club the first night of Top Gun, and the very bearing of “magnetic North” shifts permanently under Ice and Mav’s feet)

Soulmate AU!!!!! This is so cleverly put together, the worldbuilding details are delicious and so very excellent, and the characterisation is on point. A very fun and enjoyable read 💖

The author plays with form through the use of pictures in this fic, using them to broaden the story and really show the character's relationships with each other. A very soft landing that hits all the right notes.

Maybe he wouldn’t have thought of it on his own, but soon as he’d heard about it—well, it was fucking obvious, wasn’t it? There was no other way to keep climbing.

I read this the first time, had to sleep on it, then come back to digest it properly. The author fits so much into every single sentence - the plot and the reveal hit you straight to the chest, no room to avoid it.

Mach 4 Mile High Club by @topgunreacts

In a civilian bar off base, Ice finds half-price drinks, trivia, and Maverick. The drinks he's expecting. The trivia he can handle. He isn't ready for Maverick.

This is just pure fun!! The back and forth between Ice and Mav builds deliciously throughout the story, the smut is top tier, and the finale lands just perfectly.

Turns out, probably all of that was true, but Mav had one more reason for his swagger.

currently reading: between books at the moment, but the last i finished was "babel" by r.f.kuang and it broke me, so. i do have a stack of new books on my dresser glaring at me. my brain has been too mush to handle New Things of late, though, so i've mostly just been living on ao3 instead.

last movie: "the shop around the corner" was our final christmas movie of the season, since i'd never actually seen it despite loving everything based on it. definitely dated (1940, to be specific), but very cute.

currently watching: made my friends watch the first episode of leverage on NYE, which reminded us that we'd never finished s2 of redemption, so catching up on that now.

call your bluff (TG, Ice/Rooster) Bradley nodded at the bouncer as he entered the club, ignoring the warnings posted in the entryway, the disclaimers. 

restore my soul again (TG, Maverick/Viper) Maverick has been to The Metcalf’s home often enough that his nerves catch him off guard as he walks up the front steps to ring the bell. 

make you mine (TG, Maverick/Rooster) Bradley has Maverick pinned against the wall in the entryway, his hulking body holding Maverick in place as they rut against one another.

It's excellent. It's also infuriating and horrifying and so so sad. Fuck Ronald Reagan. It didn't have to be this way.

I recently finished Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus (I loved it), and now I'm listening to The Surgeon's daughter, by Audrey Blake. Plus the two dozen series I'm also in the middle of... I love reading! Books have always been my greatest escape. :)

When I was little my mom read to me a lot and taught me to read on my own pretty early, and even though I think she mostly did it in self-defence (she could basically plop me down anywhere after that with a snack and a couple of books and I would read for hours and hours), I will always be grateful.

Current obsession: I've been completely obsessed with making these little stuffed kitties for a couple of weeks, and then one day I realized I'd made seventeen of them and like, I think they've maybe started multiplying on their own? I'm not sure, but I think the safest thing to do at this point is to stop. I just can't quite seem to do it.

Pete never thought he'd see the blond again afterwards, and so it comes to a surprise when they're suddenly stationed together during the training for a special-detachment mission.

hi ok im peeking in to say i saw your create challenge which is so cool! the dedication it takes… i could never 😭 anyways i watched top gun maverick again yesterday and i started ugly crying at the it’s time to let go part and im back in my mavnix feels again because the bird strike scene hit me so hard for some reason? like its honestly never done that before but i think it was the feeling of spiraling out of control and trying everything you can to control the fall and the guilt of knowing that you’re inevitably dragging someone down with you and oh yeah i need to find a new therapist but that’s not the point the point is i was daydreaming about the aftermath of the bird strike scene because mav obviously went to go check on her and i feel like she would definitely have like flashbacks to that? like nightmares? and yeah i kinda don’t know where im going with this? and i don’t know if you’ve already written something like this but if you’re taking prompts maybe something with them about the aftermath of that whole scene or i was also thinking something like she wakes up in mav’s airstream after a nightmare and maybe gets claustrophobic because it reminds her of being trapped in the cockpit? anyhoo no pressure sorry for the vent lots of words bye :)

truly, watching the bird strike scene after jumping on the mavnix train is an EXPERIENCE. i will write all the versions of post-bird strike stuff forever. there's another little mavnix drabble in my writing tag that's post bird strike & i know @brendaonao3 has written a fabulous mavnix breathplay fic re: bird strike.

Ice wasn’t totally sure whose idea it was. The party down at the beach to celebrate the last term of 1989. The way he figured, it didn’t really matter. Whose idea it was. All that mattered was that he got an invite. A quick, “Hey, Ice. Bonfire down at the beach later. BYOB,” while Dodger and Cobra passed him in the hall on a Friday morning in mid-November and an easy “You going to the party later?” while Mav was between sharp bites of an apple during lunch that same afternoon.

This is so soft and good, I love it when characters share clothes and what it reveals about them in the sharing - and this fic did not disappoint!

One of the icemav fics of all time!! Mav tying Ice up is just soooo very good, and the author does it so well here

This is the only omega!Mav fic that I've ever read that has felt in character to me, so sharing to spread the love 💖

I very much adore how Ice and Mav met each other half way in this. The pie!!! Having big feelings about it. Love that for them.

Mav is sipping his loving Ice juice, and it is FULLY on display here. Established and older icemav are such a fav for me, and this delivered with the weight of all that history between them!

I really enjoyed all the plane facts throughout this - it's obvious that the author really is a pilot. It really adds to the story and characters super nicely!

Tragedy first brings Iceman into Bradley’s life, but he quickly becomes the steadiest presence of the boy’s childhood… until a betrayal tears their small family apart. After years of silence, can Bradley find the words to make up for lost time? Five times Ice sings to Bradley, and the one time Bradley sings to Ice.

A phenomenal read that I would truly recommend to anyone interested in Ice and Bradley's relationship, as it's the true star of the show here. It also has a sequel which I equally recommend.
