#bring back physical media
Text
I'm five episodes into Scavengers Reign and I'm obsessed with it. But I'm so mad that it's a Max exclusive.
Not because I'm in Canada and I can't watch it legally (though I am mad about that) but because I want to buy this beautiful beautiful thing as a special edition blu ray full of featurettes and commentaries and display it proudly on my shelf and rewatch it twice a year.
And.... instead it's probably just gonna get expelled to the nethervoid in six months for a tax write-off.

It’s strange to live in a society where we don’t own physical media.
A song I really like, a song that has helped me through both grief and psychosis, has been removed from the internet. It was only on YouTube, never on Spotify. 800 views, maybe no one in the world has it saved. I certainly didn’t think to save it. I didn’t think it would be gone, but now it is. I don’t have the knowledge required to recover it, and am terrified of making contact with the producer. It feels so hollow thinking about it, knowing one day I won’t be able to remember what it sounded like. What emotions I felt listening to it.
The thought scares me a little.

what if we killed the music streaming industry and started buying physical media again. make it the norm again. then merch wouldn’t be so expensive and the bands/artists would earn their money fairly again :)

we gotta bring piracy back into mainstream popularity. not just cause of capitalism reasons, i mean, that too obviously. but while i was cleaning out some stuff in storage i found my old external hard drive, and nothing will compare to the glee i felt when i opened it to find it just packed full of all my favorite movies from when i was in high school. back when thepiratebay was king, and also just easily accessible. and i can just watch any of them now, whenever i want, without worrying about access to them being taken away. it lights up a part of my brain knowing i have this little black box full of Treasures.
i know i sound like a boomer stashing money away in a mattress because i don't trust the banks, but by god let us PLEASE bring back the age of piracy.

i hate to break it to you, millennials, but gen z does, in fact, know what dvds and cds are. we grew up with them. we grew up with a lot of stuff y'all obsess over, actually. not my fault all the tech companies collectively decided to get rid of dvd players

dream team farm where dream goes full audhd research mode like he does with everything and everything thrives and he posts little updates somewhere but that’s the only thing he ever posts
he starts a mailing group and sends us handwritten letters in his fuckass chicken scratch and we cherish them like correspondence from a distant lover

Just got reminded of a silly game Sean and I used to play in the $5 DVD bin at the Wal-Mart.
If you've never seen one: It was a giant bin just full of movies of questionable quality and some good ones. I'm 5'2-1/2" and it came up to my elbow.
The game was simple: You and another person reach as far as you can into any point on the bin and each pull out the movie you could reach.
Worst movie wins.
You can repeat this for multiple rounds. The $5 bin wasn't just for questionable movies. It was also for older movies that got ported to DVD without any thought or marketing. So most of the time you were pulling out stuff of questionable quality, and then one night you'd pull out something you'd heard was amazing but was twenty years old.
Sometimes the goal of the DVD bin game was to laugh at what was in there. Sometimes the goal was to discover a movie you'd heard good things about was five bucks.

The modern mental battle between the two brain dragons.
Brain dragon 1: physical media is important. Buy that cd/dvd/game/book. You never know when it is going to get wiped off the face of the internet. How much loss will you feel when it is gone? How much will you remember in five years? How much will you be able to retell to your kin?
Brain dragon 2: Company very bad. Author very bad person. Game creators kicked out of company. Don’t want to give them money. Don’t want to fund war or anti-LGBTQ or conspiracy theorists. Pirating is ethical in this case. Also money, don’t have much of that, physical media getting expensive and you do need food to live.

no more high definition ultra realistic graphics in video games we need to go back to low-poly and pixels and 2d stuff i need some FUCKING variety and unique art styles and not feeling like every single game is the same with slightly different systems and slightly different stories
