*SPOILER WARNING CHAPTER 112*
Something is really off about Fyodor's death in the manga
Having just read the latest chapter, I noticed something really weird with Fyodor death scene. It all comes down to Dazai's reaction.
Before Fyodor "death" we see Dazai being all smug and gloating about what Fyodor missed, very typical of his character in general.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then his mood suddenly shifts completely
Tumblr media
He suddenly becomes very sombre, no triumph or gloating, this could be him regretting having to kill Fyodor, but the next few panels make me think there's more too it then that.
Tumblr media
Look at Dazai's expression here, the way he seems so suspicious of the hand
Tumblr media
I don't think we've ever seen Dazai's eyes like this, they are blank white, it's almost like his mafia eyes but colour inverted. This is not the face of someone who just beat their greatest enemy, or someone mourning their loss, It looks like Dazai is unsatisfied, I can't quite describe it, but there is something more in those eyes.
After Fyodors death Dazai is uncharacteristically quiet and Chuuya even points it out, again, nothing about this says "we won!" it feels like we still lost somehow.
Tumblr media
So why would Dazai not want Fyodor dead? While it could be because he was sad to lose the only person who thought like him, while that's possible, I want to explore another idea.
Death did not stop Fyodor.
Dazai could have killed Fyodor when he had him cornered in the cafe if he wanted to, or have someone else kill him so he doesn't break his promise to Oda.
Tumblr media
But he didn't, he let Ango arrest him instead, even though Dazai knew what a threat he was, why?
It all comes down to this.
Tumblr media
The only way Dazai can counter Dostoyevsky is when he's right there in front of him. So now he's dead, Dazai can't read his actions any more. It's like he's fighting a ghost, all the plans Fyodor will have laid in case he died will be 10x harder to uncover and stop since it's much harder to fight an invisible enemy.
Remember that Dazai did not order the piolet to kill Fyodor, Bram did, and Dazai admitted to not having any say in that deal
Tumblr media
.
I don't have any final point here, I just wanted to vent these thoughts. Does Fyodor quoting jesus on the cross mean he's going to come back in three days? What's going on with Sigma? I have way more questions than answers and it's driving me nuts

So I just saw something really interesting. We know that the next episode is titled "Twilight Goodbye"
Well, in Nakahara Chuuya's "Poems of the Goat" there are two poems called "The Terrible Twilight" and "The Twilight of This Spring Day"
Another thing to note is that Dazai Osamu's very last work was called "Goodbye" which was left unfinished because of his death
One thing that's also on my mind is what Kisho Taniyama (Chuuya's VA) said in an interview regarding s5:
"If you watch this fifth season all the way to the end, i think you will be able to feel more of the depth of the relationship that Dazai and Chuuya have established."
Emphasis on "all the way to the end"
I'm not too sure as to what to make of this honestly cause my mind is a mess after this episode

I love how Chuuya subtly tries to make Dazai not worry anymore. While also being a little worried that Dazai is still overthinking, cause he knows it is bad for him.

Meaning behind Dazais bandages
Ok so I've noticed something in the anime that could potentially give a clue about the meaning of Dazai's bandages or at least he wore those over his eye during his days with mafia so bear with me.
In prison arc of the anime there have been moments when Dazai was mad/suprised and consequentially reverted back to his way of thinking when he was a member of Port Mafia: using and manipulating people, employing similar tactics to Fyodor.
And in all these moments there was something else that could be observed: his hair concealing one of his eyes, almost like it was used as a makeshift bandage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second thing I'd like to point out is in the finale when Dazai shows his plan was based on trust in other people and how he didn't control them or use them. His eyes specifically are in the clear view here, with his hair blown out of his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this scene in particular he even holds the hair out of his eyes.
Tumblr media
It reminded me of when he first started "living for others" back in season 2 when he first listened to an advice of someone else and received help from another person, moment where his world view changed forever.
Tumblr media
So this is where the actual theory starts, I believe his bandages never had an actual use because in the scene above we can see his eye is healthy, but that they were always meant to showcase how much of the world he saw/was able to see. In all the moments he had something obstructing his vision he could see an incomplete version of the world and relationships: only way he knew how to interact with people was to use them and to manipulate them into furthering his own goals. But once that "obstruction" was gone he could actually see those subordinates looked like allies and people he could trust. So they weren't put on him by his own hand but by Asagiri as a way to show us how Dazai thought about people and relationships and how he was blind to the proper way of handling them.
I'd like to touch on Beast Dazai as well: I think he wore the bandages because he himself decided to limit his world view and how he perceives people around him- choosing to always make them his tools instead of allies. Even though he knows he can trust other people from the knowledge of canon Dazai he received from the book, he never had his own Oda to take off his bandages and show him how to live for others like canon Dazai had. The best he can do is to die for someone else.
Tumblr media
In conclusion: All bandages ever were was a symbol of his limited world view, how he could only see people as tools, as things he can only control and manipulate but never receive help from or trust in them. When Oda took them off and made him live for others Dazai himself started trusting more and in the end got to where he is now: blindly believing that someone else would solve a problem he couldn't alone without any of his input. And having something he never could when he didnt see clearly: allies.

Okay hear me out, what if Sigma actually just looked like 2 weeks into the past?
Idk dressing up as a monk while being chained to a dungeon wall seems like the kinda stuff Fyodor would be into.

I touched a little on Dazai in the first post so I'm gonna add some more examples to that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mafia Dazai, black coat worn over the shoulders. He is a member of the mafia, but eventually, he leaves. Unlike other characters, he is not tied down to the mafia and does not see himself as purely mafia. Even if his blood is "port mafia black." His loyalties sway, he might be mafia, but he is not loyal to Mori.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Dazai is with Oda, he doesn't have a coat. With Oda, he isn't a port mafia members, he's just a kid. He's not a demon prodigy or a monster, he's just Dazai. He doesn't need a coat because there is no side, it's just him.
Tumblr media
When Dazai joins the ADA and becomes a "Good person" he chooses to wear a light coat. Similar and somewhat resembling Odasaku as Oda was seen as "a good man." He wears his coat properly because he is committed to his loyalty to the ADA unlike his relationship with mori and the pm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dead apple Dazai. The colour might be white here but it does not fit the white as a "Good guy" colour thing. It's more being used as a colour to signify that they are a group. Much like the decay of angles who are "bad guys," but their main common colour is all white.
Once again, Dazai has sleeves and refuses to use them. We know that he was only playing them from the start. He is not loyal to this group.
Anyways that's all off Dazai with his coat.
His jail outfit is a whole different thing because for starters it's a uniform for the prison so it can't really follow the same guidelines for coat theory.

guys order of the clock tower arc is going to be wild you know
agatha christie, charles dickens, JANE AUSTEN guys i hope we get to see pride and prejudice as an ability
maybe they can even sneak oscar wilde in (i know that he's from ireland but come on) he would be such a sass king god he would rival dazai on that one
i want sheakespeare to be there too and please god let asagiri make him speak that way
you know, like "whomst could haveth seenth this come forth, that blessid ben thei that suffren persecusioun for riytfulnesse, for the kingdam of heuenes is herne" or something like that and then everyone just stares at him while he confidently holds his head high like he made a genius point and then agatha just sighs and translates and turns out he just said something like "what are we having for dinner"
but during a crisis or an important scene he suddenly speaks perfect modern english, zero goofiness, which makes it at least 50x more impactful
make it happennnn

Fyodor Will Be Fine
Back to writin' this. Assuming that the anime is following hte manga's path (likely), Fyodor's gonna be fine y'all. Eventually.
I mean, first and most obviously, we still don't know Fyodor's ability. That's kinda important lol and set up as a major mystery.
Fyodor as Jesus
Fyodor's last words are "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" aka Jesus' last words (or among his last words). I mean, think about what happens after Jesus dies. It's kinda the whole basis of Christianity.
But there's another layer to the whole Fyodor=Jesus thing. Actually, a couple layers. See, Dostoyevsky was himself very Christian, as much theologian as novelist. So the comparison very much makes sense.
Jesus is the Son of God in Christianity... and Fyodor? He's also the son of God.
God is a Character
This God figure Fyodor references is probably an actual person, and God is probably Tolstoy. I'm sorry but there is 0 chance we are getting Dostoyevsky and a whole host of Russian novelists but not Tolstoy who could have "War and Peace" as his ability. Not to mention... the set up is kinda perfect?
Tolstoy's three novels are War and Peace, Anna Karenina, and... Resurrection. Gee I wonder what his ability might be and how that ties into Fyodor (it's also surely not unheard of for Asagiri to use multiple literary references in an ability).
What is Tolstoy's relationship with Fyodor? Probably a parent-child one. I'd say it's extremely obvious, actually, that parent/child relationships are a main theme of this arc, even if the parental-child relationships are not actual flesh and blood.
Gogol-Fyodor parallel Chuuya-Dazai, Kunikida-Dazai, Tecchou-Jouno, and Atsushi-Akutagawa. All of these pairings also have parental figures (Mori, Fukuzawa, Fukichi, Dazai) except Gogol-Fyodor, who are themselves parental figures to Sigma. I highly doubt Fyogol is the exception, though.
Tumblr media
If there is no god, then I am god
Anyways if Tolstoy is introduced, it would kinda be perfect to have him thematically in this role of family. Because the real life Tolstoy was actually terrible to his family despite his altruistic, idealistic pacifism that directly influenced Gandhi (with whom he corresponded). And also because he wrote one of the most famous opening lines in all of literature which would kinda sorta address all the pseudo-parental relationships in the entire story:
Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way
It fits super perfectly.

okay guys HEAR ME OUT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so in these two panels we see sigma touching fyodor, to gain information from him
and i’m almost positive that sigma isn’t actually dead, he just fainted from the amount of knowledge he got, like atsushi did
okay now hear me out, WHAT IF sigma was seeing what fyodor’s actual plan was, for chuuya to kill dazai BUT IT HASN’T ACTUALLY HAPPENED YET.
it’s very far fetched but i feel like it’s something asagiri would do and i’m trying to cling to the hope that sigma and dazai aren’t actually dead
IM HOPING ASAGIRI DIDN’T ACTUALLY HAVE THE BALLS TO KILL TWO FAN FAVORITE CHARACTERS.
then again, he also said he “loved” sigma, he also “loved” oda AND THAT MF IS DEAD NOW

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BUNGOU STRAY DOGS CHAPTER 114!
GUYS IF FYODOR CAN POSSES A PERSON WHO TOUCHES HIS BLOOD AFTER HE DIES, WHOS CURRENT HOLDING HIS BLOODSOAKED SEVERED HAND
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fyodor promised to come after Gogol for trying to kill him and having the character who imbodies manipulation overwrite the free will of the character who above all else wants to break free of all control would be such a cruel and interesting twist, its so in in character for Fyodor to make Gogol care about him so strongly then destroy the greatest wish of Gogols heart

I'm getting quite impatient waiting for the next episode, so I'm just going to list all the possible s5 endings that I can think of along with the popular ones that I've come across
▪︎ The good ending AKA the delusional ending
Verlaine, Natsume, Yosano, H.G. Wells or someone- ANYONE shows up to save the day and then everything gets resolved and returns to normal. And so everyone lives happily ever after
▪︎ The sad but hopeful ending
Aya's ability is revealed, Bram's backstory followed by his death, which results in the vampirism being nullified. The DoA loses. Fukuchi dies/gets caught. Dazai has a plan. He and Chuuya take down Fyodor together in true Soukoku fashion. Fyodor dies/gets caught.
▪︎ The fake out ending
Dazai dies, Fukuzawa dies, basically anyone who is on the verge of death of death, dies BUT someone finds the book or the page (someone from ADA? Atsushi?) and brings them all back.
▪︎ The bad (sad) ending
Fukuzawa dies and everything falls apart. Atsushi loses control of his ability. It's the end of ADA (Goodbye Twilight theory- The ADA oversees the twilight so it's a goodbye to the agency)
▪︎ The doomed bungover ending
The whole world ends, and everyone just freaking dies. *55 minutes flashback intensifies*
▪︎ The Ranpo ending
Ranpo has a plan beyond the whole "trapping Fukuchi in Poe's novel" thing (in Ranpo we trust)
▪︎ The best ending
It's a rightfully deserved beach episode! (The past 2 seasons were not real. All the characters are alive and well, being silly as usual)
If Asagiri is involved in the making of the next episode (which he most likely is), then knowing him, he's probably gonna defy our expectations and write the most unpredictable ending for this season

bsd 114 theory//
Remember the split personality thing??? Remember??? REMEMBER??? AND EVERYONE WAS LIKE 'WOW IT WAS A GIMMICK BUT ALSO I THINK THAT WAS KINDA REAL'???
and the face of fyodors body changed??? like it was definitely him in that crash. what if fyodor just finds ability users with memory reading abilities and transfers his memories/consciousness between bodies somehow so when/if he dies he has an alternate body to go back to
When he inhabits a body they may take on some of Fyodor's original features, or if he leaves the body, aging may revert or scars may reappear, that kind of thing.
him having the same body in the 1300s flashback could be accounted for by only remembering how the body he currently inhabits looks in his memories
and the help me note and personality switch could be accounted for by the original bodies host trying to break through
another potential explanation for him looking the same is that aging stops/slows if he's in that body so the only way for him to die is if he's killed, and nobody aside from Dazai has been capable of killing him before.
it also explains a little more as to why he went to such lengths to ensure he had sigma when he could have found another way to get the location of the page. He didn't NEED sigma, sigma was always more of a liability(sorry sigma i love you i swear) but he knew of sigmas ability, and then he had a memory reader ability user close to him and easily manipulatable that he could transfer his memories/consciousness to in order to stay alive
Also after looking at the leaks my sigma isn't dead because information overload theory I came up with months ago was correct 😋 yippee i feel accomplished and justified in reaching so hard with this one
anyway :3(im shaking i'm terrified)

A thought,
Would it truly be far fetched? Would it be wishful thinking? Would I be reaching if I said; BEAST!Chuuya is in the Port Mafia only because the original Chuuya will eventually leave it?
This is too early for me to be rambling but I just thought about it. All of the characters in the BEAST!Universe went through some sort of change compared to the Original!Universe. All, except for Chuuya.
He has been a dormant character ever since the 16 light novel, actually. His ideals haven't gone through any major developments since the incident with Verlaine and I doubt Asagiri plans to keep it this way.
Also, whoever says he's loyal to the Port Mafia is missing the point. Because he's anything but that. He would leave if he could. Even Mori knows that, it's precisely why he keeps him close as a right hand man.
Just think about it:
Ever since he joined the Port Mafia after Dazai forced him to, he had shown clear signs of wanting to leave. Only seeking the fastest way to aquire the position of executive, getting his hands on the Arahabaki files and leaving. Even Mori knew that, seeing as he sent the flags to recruit him and keep their eyes on him in the hopes he'd want to stay on his own.
He never felt betrayed over Dazai leaving the Port Mafia. He never regards the matter with any sense of sadness or betrayal, even in his most honest state (drunk), he only shows frustration over Dazai ignoring his calls and blowing up his car before he left, only being bitter about how he himself couldn't leave (yet)
Chuuya isn't as dumb as the fandom paints him sometimes. He'd know better than anyone (yes, even Oda) just how much the mafia ruined Dazai, considering he was the only one to witness the differences Dazai went through after officially joining. (Aside from Mori)
He had shown clear sighs of wanting Murase to actually 'save' him and show him the light. With the way Murase's death parallels Oda's death, do you truly believe that Chuuya would be the one to do nothing whilst Dazai is the one actually affected after such an event?
That, or I'm thinking too much.

PM and ADA deal Theory
Hey guys, friendly reminder that Mori is likely still gonna ask for someone from the ADA to join the PM. It honestly hurts my soul to think that the ADA will lose someone this soon after all the shit in this arc went down but Mori isn’t one to care about that kind of stuff.
SEASON FIVE SPOILERS
This is about 1.7k words so be warned
I know a lot of people are sold on the theory that it’ll probably be Tanizaki since Asagiri is big on foreshadowing and Tanizaki does have a homicidal side but I don’t think he’d let himself be put in a position to where his sister might be in danger or get a target on her back. He’d probably run away or kill the people in question before that happened. Not to mention since his run in with Akutagawa and the black lizard that he sort of hates most if not all of the mafia members. He was so ready to go to war with the PM to defend the agency and someone like this would be super hard to control, deal with the ADA or not.
Mori isn’t stupid, in fact he’s very calculating and very cunning and who are his biggest obsessions? He’s always so focused on Dazai and Yosano but both of these are off limits in his eyes. Yosano is off limits because of the terms of the deal with Fukuzawa and Dazai is off because Mori wants him to come back on his own. Now we have Kyouka, Atsushi, Kenji, Ranpo  and Kunikida left to choose from.
Kunikida is off the table I think because he’s a child bombing away from just completely breaking. There is a part of me that believes Mori could pick Kunikida solely to break him and watch Fukuzawa and Dazai suffer but Mori is also the type of boss that doesn’t want to waste powerful allies if he doesn’t need to. I mean, he’s literally letting Tachihara choose his loyalties, he’ll probably still get punished severely but Mori isn’t one to just waste men unless it’s for good reason or worth the risks. Also Kunikida is Fukuzawa’s successor and something tells me that Mori doesn’t wanna deal with the strict moral types.
Ranpo is definitely off the table. Fukuzawa would go batshit if Mori picked him. He just lost his childhood best friend. Do you think he’s gonna let Mori take his son next? No he will not. Also Ranpo would blatantly refuse to work with him. He’s smart enough to survive but Ranpo is disinterested in most things and Fukuzawa is really the only one who can make him do something. I don’t think Mori would want to deal with that either.
Now we have Atsushi, Kenji and Kyouka. Mori usually chooses children to take under his wing because they’re easy to manipulate and easy to mold into his ideal subordinates. However Kyouka was already in the mafia once and Kouyou even used up her slight favor with Mori to let her leave the mafia with no consequences. I don’t think he’d want to deal with the hassle of internal conflict since Kouyou would be pissed if he took Kyouka away from the light that she enjoys so much. However much Kouyou wants to deny that she can’t help Kyouka anymore, she’s only human and she’s very much attached to the Kyouka who shares a similar past and ability.
Kenji’s situation is kind of hard to determine. As stated, Mori does prefer to mold and manipulate children rather than adults but Kenji is kind of an oddity among humans. Not because of his ability but because of his personality. He’s very much a “you fuck around and find out” type of guy is willing to believe the best in people despite what they may do or have done. I don’t see many reasons why Mori wouldn’t choose him other than there are better options than Kenji. Sure Kenji is super powerful with a very useful gift but there are other members that would fit his goals better.
Now Atsushi, he’s the biggest contender for the mafia recruit in my mind for a few reasons. Now we saw in the series that there were gonna be three main villains (The Guild, the Decay of Angels and the Order of the Clock Tower) and now we have finished out with two of them. This means that we’re possibly getting into the last major arc or two of the main plot of the story and there are still so many unanswered questions about Atsushi.
Atsushi was deemed the envy of all ability users by Fyodor which was why Shibusawa originally held an interest in him. My question is why Fyodor was interested enough in Atsushi to know of him and what is their connection that Fyodor was even able to know of him. Fyodor is a genius but the orphanage headmaster said that he was a randomly dumped toddler and he lived most of his life in a cage in the orphanage. This in itself is fishy but I’ll get to that in a second. Moreover, Atsushi’s ability seems like it just resists almost all other abilities with the ability to cut through space itself and high regeneration abilities that causes most wounds to go away instantly when he’s in his full tiger form, most other abilities don’t affect him when he’s fully a tiger.
Who is called the most powerful ability user? Natsume is, and he is able to turn into a cat. Seeing the pattern here? When did the headmaster die? When he was trying to find Atsushi and talk to him again. It’s very suspicious timing and I wholeheartedly believe that he was silenced by someone who didn’t want Atsushi knowing something important about himself. And then we have the seven billion bounty that was put on his head because of his ability. I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that Fitzgerald, who wanted to find The Book, wanted the tiger so badly that he was willing to spend that much.
Asagiri is a beast at foreshadowing and he doesn’t do anything for kicks, all of his moves are deliberate. There is something about Atsushi that we’re missing and I’m willing to bet that Mori, who was going to accept the bounty, wants to know what it is as much as we do. Atsushi’s strange ability, the holes in his past from before the orphanage, Fyodor and Shibusawa’s interest in him, his correlation to Natsume, his probable connections to locating the book and the fact that Dazai was coincidentally there to save him when he came to Yokohama? Yeah, there’s definitely something up with Atsushi and the poor kid doesn’t even realize it.
So yes, I do think that Mori either a) wants to figure out Atsushi’s situation in relation to everything or b) he knows something and wants to exploit it out of him. My second point is that Mori wants to break Dazai down and build him up as the perfect PM boss. Mori is someone who manipulates and breaks from the sidelines then watches conflict and in the aftermath, glues the pieces of what once was back together in a collage of his own liking. He knows he can’t beat Dazai but he can make him suffer. Who is Dazai the closest to at the agency? Atsushi.
Dazai always says, “Atsushi and the others” while making sure Atsushi makes it out alive in any situation that he is in. Dazai has a big soft spot for Atsushi, the kid he took in as a mentor and the kid who wholeheartedly believes without any hesitation that he is a good person. He brought his own chair and made a home in Dazai’s heart without his permission. Atsushi knows he was in the PM, knows he’s the reason for a lot of Akutagwa’s issues, knows about some of the atrocities he’s committed but still smiles genuinely at him. Of course he doesn’t know everything but Atsushi is probably Dazai’s biggest apologist (It’s not Akutagawa but that's for a different post). Atsushi is the personification of Oda’s last wish to Dazai and Mori definitely knows that he can hurt Dazai by hurting his beloved mentee.
Mori is also very aware of the new generation of soukoku. If he’s able to wrangle and manage Akutagawa (he’s alive shut up) a little more because Atsushi is his partner then all the more reason to choose him. Atsushi covers all the bases, a mysterious power that could make his organization that much more untouchable, mess with Dazai, mess with the agency and manage his own employees better. It doesn’t help that Atsushi’s mental state isn’t the best. He’s not a kid but he’s traumatized and doesn’t have the same development other 18 year olds do, and that can be just as easily to manipulate as a child. It would be difficult because Atsushi genuinely believes in Dazai with everything he is but every person is able to break and Mori is especially good at that.
I know that Fukuzawa’s ability is the reason we don’t see any more late night weretiger situations but Atsushi has so much more control now than when he did at the beginning of the series. It’s also very much possible that Mori is looking for a degree of uncontrollable tiger to help him with his goals. It’s also been confirmed that pain can manage his transformations as seen with his collar in BSD BEAST.
It also doesn’t help that Asagiri tends to go through the trauma route to have his characters develop and experiencing the “darkside” of Yokohama just may be what he thinks Atsushi needs to develop more.
So yeah, I think Mori may choose Atsushi as the new PM member but don’t quote me on this if I’m wrong, it’ll be embarrassing. They also may just throw this plotline out the window since both sides suffered this past arc, they may find it illogical to go through with the deal when the truce between the PM and ADA is still sensitive but I doubt it. Mori isn’t one to care for those things.
