Hi ! Back again with some ridiculous questions... First , what kind of students would Thrawn, Thrass, Maul, Savage, Vader, Eli, Tarkin, Krennic and Grand Inqui be ?

And then, what kind of teachers would they be ?

And btw, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my dumb questions and for brightening my days. You're such a talented writer, I absolutely love your works ❤❤❤

Ahhh back to the good 'ol school days...

As a student, Thrawn was Mister Perfect. He showed up, sat silently in class, took notes with the most illegible handwriting you've ever seen in your life, and maintained perfect scores. However, what many never saw coming was his tendency to be argumentative with teachers. He finds their strategies boring and obsolete, and is not afraid to tell them as much. He's been threatened with disciplinary action more than once, but only ever replied, "The truth is not equivalent to disrespect."

As a teacher, he's thorough. The goal is not good scores, but rather students who know not only what is happening, but why, whether it be military or art history. People in his class are never afraid to ask questions, as he openly encourages it, and is willing to explain the same concept a million different ways if it means it's helping them.

Student life for Thrass was about as skewed as you'd expect. He excelled at debate, writing, and government, and those teachers loved him. But he's stubborn, and he will not do something that he doesn't want to do. This means that his math classes saw him maybe once a week, and he only barely passed. Perfect he was not, but that didn't stop people from falling at his feet left and right. Which... he never enjoyed either.

As a teacher, he seems like a strict hardass from the outside looking in. People would tell stories about him and how much he expects and how he grades. But really, it isn't nearly that bad. He discusses a lot about how he wants good, honest efforts, but he also isn't uptight about it either. Every so often, he'll look at his lesson plan, say, "I don't feel like doing this, do you?" Which means that they spend the rest of the time playing games.

Maul was the competitive student, the one that had to be the best at everything. He would have silent bouts of anger each time he wasn't at the top of the class for grades. Although... rumour had it that it wasn't exactly by choice. Still, he excelled at languages and anything relating to physical activity. An odd pair, but it worked well for him.

But as a teacher, he's quite casual about it all. At the beginning of the year, the students always dread it, as he makes everything seem like the worst experience they'll ever have. He's got a specific title you have to refer him to or he'll End You, there's no excuse for anything below a 95%, no freebies, etc. etc... He forgets about all of that literally the next day. People began realising it when they mentioned they didn't have time to finish assignments or homework. He'd just shrug and tell them to bring it the following week. Multiple people began calling him Maul, and he would answer as if it were a normal occurrence. The class average on an exam was a 70 once, and he only said, "Well, you passed, at least."

Savage was the student who looked like he could kill you, and could, but also most likely wouldn't. He was the one that followed Maul around everywhere, and was also himself followed by an even smaller sibling. He wasn't competitive, only here for the sake of getting through it at all, and never had much interest in the subjects outside of... geology. Random, yes, but he found it fun.

When he teaches, he's the gentler one, the type that listens to the students' troubles, whether class related or not, and is always there to help when he can. He stays late to give help, comes early for even more extra help, and knows the value of a good sticker on your paper when you scored well.

You know what Vader was like as a student. He was horrendous. Bad. The rules are his rules, and if he doesn't like them, they don't exist. No teacher wanted to deal with him, and when they did have to, they didn't dare try to call him out for the times he was late or ignored simple instructions that he didn't like.

His teaching style is... interesting. It isn't overly suffocating, but it isn't fun, and it definitely isn't cushy. He needs everything in on time Or Else, and yet he takes for heckin' ever to grade. A hypocrite, just as he always has been, but are you really going to try to argue with him? Yeah, I thought not.

Eli's experience as a student was fairly standard. He was a bit in the higher range when it came to grades, he participated enough that he was known but not favoured, he always seemed to have a promising future. He's the master of Hindsight 20/20, though, so much of the issues that he has with scheduling could be fixed if he payed more attention. And yet he always found himself running across the halls to his next class.

As a teacher, he's... the boring one. Well, by the student's standards, anyways. It certainly can be worse, but his students know next to nothing about him, and his tendency to keep to himself means that the students don't feel all that comfortable around him either. But he's good, great even, at teaching his content, his averages always high, his performance admirable amongst his colleagues.

Tarkin's student experience was filled with rich-kid nonsense, extra extra after school study sessions, cram school, high level courses, an unreasonable amount of clubs. Everyone from teachers to other students worried that he worked himself too much. He did, of course, but no one needed to know that.

Now this. This is the ice teacher. This is the teacher everyone warns you about, the one no one wants to be stuck with. He's the teacher that Maul pretends he is. The one with no leeway, the one that runs everything like a damn prison. I shudder at the mere thought.

Ah Krennic, the classic case of believing talent can get you anywhere. His days as a student were filled with one-sided competition with Tarkin, trying to get better grades, one-up him, prove himself superior. Nevermind that their classes were completely different, and that Krennic was actually at the low end of the class rank. He was always so convinced he could do it. When he talks about his old school days to people who weren't there, he will often claim that he did do it.

His teaching is about as good as his engineering... there are a few holes. His descriptions lack sometimes, he tends to leave out info. And after exams, when students cry out that he never talked about something, he will insist that he did, and they were not paying attention. He answers question by repeating the same things he just said.

The Grand Inquisitor was the quiet student, the one that sat in the back, the one that never volunteered to answer, did all the projects by himself, and to many, never existed at all. Students used to say that he was a ghost, and he was actually just haunting the school until he could move on. He never bothered to correct them. Instead, he continued to listen, allowing himself to be both a skilled student and a gold mine for the latest scandals. Truly an inspiration of our time.

As a teacher, he's the type that prefers to show, not tell. Instead of lectures there are videos, examples, real life discussions about where the subject would appear, and how it would be used. He wants his students to hunt for the answer rather than be given it immediately, which he is certain will give them a benefit later on in life, as it's a useful skill. Surprisingly, the students like him, despite how quiet and odd he is.

Some headcanons and things for my sbi fd! Abandoned amusement park fic lol

SBI last name is Reid, DT last name is Jackson btw lmao, i probably won't mention it much though unless it's like Mrs Reid for the sbi mom y'know

This has Tommy, Techno, Wilbur and Phil included; lmk if a dt post would be a good idea too

Tommy

The youngest brother, he’s seven lmao what a child

Even though he’s the youngest, he’s also the most confrontational and will gladly ‘fight’ anyone who talks bad about his brothers

He can’t fight

He’s very tall for his age but is also extremely light since he’s always running around

Phil tries to get him to try new foods a lot but Tommy’s a really picky eater

...Tantrums.. Every time he doesn’t get his way

This lead to his brothers spoiling him quite a bit, he’s still sweet enough though since Phil has had many stern conversations with him about being nice to people

Has a toy music boy, with collectable discs

Wilbur got his first disc for him, it’s his most prised possession

Every time he does all of his chores (which are really just small things like clean up after himself and keep his room tidy) someone, whether its his Mum, Wilbur or someone else, gets him a new disc

Techno got him ‘Pig step’ for his seventh birthday and he listens to it every night before bed

One time he snuck downstairs while Techno and Wilbur were having a sleepover and watched the horror movie they were watching without them realising it. Techno and Wil were the ones to get into trouble since Tommy wouldn’t sleep for a week afterwards.

Techno had to read him a story every night until he stopped thinking he was going to be eaten by a demon in the middle of the night

Drinks way too much caffeine for a kid, someone take this boys coke away

He’s got a habit of biting his nails, which has left him with some pretty crooked teeth, which will probably need to be fixed with braces when he’s older.

It’s also gross because he climbs so much there’s almost always dirt under his nails

Hasn’t really grasped the whole concept of not saying everything he thinks yet

Oh my god someone shut this boy up

He still believes in Santa and The easter bunny too

One time Techno told him Oogie Boogie from the nightmare before christmas was real and he cried

He talks a lot in school because he finds it boring but he’s also very good at maths and English for his age

Wilbur

Middle child, Wil is 13. Techno’s twin

He’s pretty insecure about his music even though he’s been playing his whole life

That’s why he likes being able to practice in L’manburg, there’s no pressure to be perfect when he’s alone with his brothers

Super extroverted and confident in everything else though, Since Techno can’t talk to most people, he usually tries to speak for both of them

After realising that Techno didn’t really like it when he said ‘Techno thinks’ a lot, back in primary school, he adapted to trying to speak for what Techno wants without making Techno’s issues obvious

They tell people who need to know, but for people they’ll only talk to a few times they usually just get away with Wilbur acting super obnoxious and loud so it seems like Techno just doesn’t have room to talk, rather than that he can't

It’s easier than getting into it since they don’t feel like most people will understand

has separation Anxiety, when he’s not with his brother he doesn’t relax/ feel safe at all. If it happens at school he won't do his work at all/ Will probably just leave the room and try to find Techno

Everyone kinda knows this and they try to suit things around it without saying it outright

He’s kinda embarrassed, he likes to think he’s the one protecting Techno but really they need each other the same amount

Techno gets this though, He doesn’t mind if wilbur has a bit of a saviour complex, he’ll play along if it makes him happy

They’re working on it with their Therapist though so don’t worry, he won't grow up to be an ass

Interests (besides music) include:

Watching obscure documentaries

Disney movies, favourite is peter pan

Skating��

He and Techno got Picked on in primary school for being so close, he learnt kickboxing so he could defend himself if things ever got physical. Luckily they didn’t but he still knows how to kickbox so watch out

Almost always turning in homework late, he’s good at talking his way out of Detentions though.

And when he cant talk his way out, Techno finds a way to get detention too

He’s VERY protective of his younger brother(s(he was born first so he likes to insist that Techno is his little brother))

That’s good for the most part but he can be a little overbearing sometimes, he’s got detention many many times for cussing out people who so much as looked at Techno wrong

When he’s feeling guilty he mumbles a lot

Techno

Middle child, 13. Wilbur’s twin

Has selective Mutism, completely fine talking to Wilbur, Only talks to Tommy and Phil if Wil is there too but other than that he’s completely fine talking to them as well. He speaks to his parents but not as openly as he does with his brothers, with them its usually very quiet, one word sentences

Like Wilbur, separation Anxiety also, It’s not as bad as Wilbur’s is though, Wil just makes him comfortable enough to talk with his brothers, he can deal with being without Wilbur but he absolutely doesn’t want to

He can be a bit arrogant and possessive of his brothers at times, he’s a bit scared of them leaving him because he can be so difficult so he has a tendency to be cold to any new people they bring home

Interests include: Pvp games, ancient china, farming

He was hyper-fixated on a cartoon when he was younger and now he has multiple cosplays from it that he’ll probably never wear again

His hair is LONG and pink, they never figured out why it grew so fast or why it was pink but it is lmao

When he was born his parents were terrified, they thought he had some kind of rare condition that was going to hurt him but the doctors eventually came to the conclusion that he just had healthy hair that grew fast and the pinkness was due to an abnormality in the melanin in his system or something idk fellas im failing science pls pretend this part makes sense

Being silent with long pink hair as a kid, he got picked on a lot. There were many instances where he just pushed kids over or hit them because they were being mean

Since he’s the quiet one, teachers usually trust him a lot so he and wilbur used to skip class a lot, back when they got picked on, by saying they had to help another teacher do something

In an attempt to get him to be more social, his parents signed him up for violin lessons aged 8, he really liked his teacher and had even managed to speak a little to her over the past 4 years he took lessons

Spaces out a lot

He watches a lot of conspiracy theory videos but he doesn’t actually believe any of them, he just finds them interesting

One time he convinced Tommy they were living in a simulation and Tommy hit a kid to see if his hand would pass through

He’s spoken a few words to squidkid too since they’re childhood friends and he’s very comfortable with him. Ironically all he seems to say to him is ‘bozo’ to tease the other for saying it so often, instead of literally any other insult

Phil

Oldest brother, 16

Cares about his brothers so so so so so much like he will do anything to keep them happy and safe

One time he missed an exam because Tommy was sick and he wanted to take him to the doctor before anything else

Tommy was fine btw, just one of those bugs you get when you're little

Their parents are pretty distant so Phil has been pretty much raising them since he was little, he doesn’t mind though

Their parents aren’t bad people or anything, they just get called out a lot for work and can’t be at home a whole bunch, it’s a big part of the reason why Techno never got comfortable talking a lot around them

He works at a Nearby florist to get extra cash to buy his brothers things when his parents arent home

When their mum is home, he brings her flower arrangements home from work because he is sweet <3

He’s really into mythology and Folklore as well as drawing, when he was younger he had multiple sketchbooks filled up with different creatures that he had drawn

When he, techno and wilbur were all little, he used to play a game with them where they’d describe a monster off the tops of their heads and he’d draw it for them

Techno and Wilbur loved this and always put up Phil’s drawings on their bedroom walls

When he was 13 he used to write angsty poetry, He told wilbur about it one day and that's when wilbur first started adding lyrics to his songs

He can be pretty gullible, he likes to believe that people mean good no matter how hard it might be to see it that way

He can hold grudges for a pretty long time, he’s quick to forgive when it’s himself that’s been hurt but it’s very very hard to get on his good side again if you hurt his brothers

Watches Alien theories with techno, unlike techno he actually believes in them

Has the ‘i believe in aliens’ poster

When they were little, he used to grow strawberry plants with techno and Wilbur, this is what prompted techno to start growing other vegetables in their garden himself

Zenith: Chapter 37-40

Chapter 37

So this chapter is very rapey and if you’re not comfy reading it I can safely say that it’s not crucial to the “plot” of the rest of the book at all and you can skip it if you wish.

We’re back with Klaren, who’s being strangled by General Cortas because he’s mad that he’s constantly horny for her. She mind-controls him into letting her go and we find out that she’s been here for two years, where they forced her to send videos to the King of Xen Ptera to get him to surrender but she’s a rebel so she told him to keep fighting.

During that time, she’s also been brainwashing General Cortas into “loving” her. And now that his mind has been completely fucked, it’s time for Klaren to also get fucked.

No, really. This was apparently the “sacrifice” she was supposed to make.

She was born to do this. Born to sacrifice herself. Her heart, to the king of Xen Ptera. Her daughter, unplanned, had been sacrificed, too.

Now, she would willingly give up her body to the cause.

[...]

They spent the rest of the night together, tangled in the sheets.

Tangled in her lies.

Now, let me explain how this squicks me out, beyond the obvious.

Are we supposed to feel ... bad? Feel sad that she’s doing this? Feel bad for her? Because so far, General Cortas/Cyprian has been painted and portrayed as a crusty antagonist who’s out to get out dear Andi and Dex, while every Klaren chapter has been all about how she’s sad and she has to sacrifice herself and how it’s her destiny and how she regrets she can’t stay with her family and all that jazz. We even get an emphasis on how she’s in love with her king and loves her daughter as well.

Like, I know in the end Cyprian dies (spoilers, but I talked about this in my review so) and Klaren only exists in flashbacks, so it’s not like we’re getting redemption arcs for either of them.

But like, if this is supposed to make me uncomfortable and to be very muddled then I’m honestly impressed. But I doubt it? And I’m very unsettled by the fact that we spend so many chapters moping around with Klaren to sympathize with her and her plight, and I don’t understand why they chose to spend so much time on the backstories of two characters that are either dead or will die in the main timeline in the first place.

Nexus better answer these questions or else it will just prove Shinsay wrote this because ... No, I don’t think Nexus can justify this, actually. I don’t get why this subplot exists.

SHINSAY WHY DID YOU WRITE THIS

Chapter 38

We’re back with Andi post-argument and she’s in the med bay with Gilly and Lira, and we get an actually pretty nice, quiet moment where the girls try to both care for Andi and give her space. If y’all had focused on this instead of the mind-rape and the mind-control (oh boy I bet these two will have shit to do with each other huh) and the reality TV drama and space wars you defo can’t write it would’ve been a much better and more fun book.

Anyway, the other girls leave to eat and Andi chooses to remain with Valen and watch over him. Lira drops this on us:

“There’s a fissure in you. I can sense it even from here.” Lira loosed a gentle sigh before explaining her words. But when she did, they sunk like a rock into Andi’s gut. “Sooner or later, you’re going to have to choose between forgiveness or hate. And you and I both know which one is harder to live with.”

I know this is in reference to Dex, considering how Andi’s been all quiet and weird after their argument, but honestly? Andi’s looking at Valen’s fucked body and my headcanon is that Lira is actually referring to Andi herself. Think about it. Lira knows what happened. Lira knows Andi still feels like it’s her fault Kalee died.

And instead of it being another tired “forgiving is better for ur soul than hatred uwu” sentiment, when applied to Andi’s self-hatred, this would be a hard-hitting and genuinely insightful statement from Lira.

Because self-hatred is harder to live with than self-forgiveness.

But this is Shinsay and I’d be surprised if they thought that far.

Anyway, Andi has yet another flashback to the crash and Kalee’s death and it’s all blood and metal and bla bla bla, we’ve seen this a billion times already. Then it turns out that Valen’s tests come back positive for “abnormalities,” and then he wakes up and is all like “kill meeeeeeeeee” and the chapter ends.

Riveting.

Chapter 39

We skip to some time later, I guess? Dex is shirtless and getting his nails painted by Gilly, which is fun. They discuss whether Valen is or isn��t a mutant, and we get this:

“Valen is no different than us,” Andi said to Dex, “and he’s not a mutant. And put on a damned shirt. This is a spaceship, not a pleasure palace.”

“It used to be both.” He waggled his eyebrows at her, then winced as Andi ripped off one of his boots and launched it at his face.

Y’all really gonna talk about how much sex you used to have when there’s a literal 13-year-old right there in the room with you who’s listening and is a part of this conversation?

Interesting choice there, Shinsay. Not even a little uncomfortable at all. Just these two adults talking about how they used to fuck while one of them is shirtless.

Andi thinks about how the Marauder used to be a man cave, and yes, that’s what the text says, and how it’s actually beautiful and modern and well-furnished now because they have genuine Adhiran cowhide couches. Then there’s more descriptions of the interior of the ship and I’m extremely bored and wondering why we needed to know the layout of the kitchen or what Alfie was wearing while in said kitchen (it’s a Kiss the Cook apron, btw).

There’s a little argument about whether Valen is or isn’t a mutant due to his weird blood. It’s completely pointless.

“Ah-hah!” Alfie’ s head emerged from the cooling unit, frost covering the tip of his oval chin. “I have discovered the source of the smell.” He held up a dripping hunk of green meat, then proceeded to march over to the small ejection site and blast it out into space.

... Right.

So why do you people have a dedicated trash compartment again?

All this waffling about brings nothing, as Alfie just cryptically says that Valen’s DNA seems to have changed and that they’ll have to do further tests once Valen’s back home.

Andi thinks about how Gilly does have a soul after all, because Gilly seems excited about having a mutant on board. This book has too many characters considering whether they or someone else they know has a soul or not. I think it’s Shinsay’s way of trying to be deep.

Andi thinks about how cool her team is and how they got out of Lunamere without issue and how it’s gonna be nice to take a break. Then the ship starts crashing, I guess?

We gotta throw more forced plot into the narrative because clearly these characters don’t actually have any goals of their own.

Chapter 40

We’re back with Nor, who’s moping about her backstory and Zahn and Darai again. We find out through math that she’s 26?

Anyway, remember the prison guard they were gonna test Zenith on? Yeah, she’s dead. Which does indeed confirm that they hadn’t tested it before then. Alrighty. I also don’t get why they test it on their own loyal citizens instead of, you know, the prisoners they have in Lunamere. It just makes so much sense to try to brainwash someone who already loves you into loving you more and risk them dying from this foreign chemical instead of trying to brainwash someone who hates your guts and who wouldn’t be a loss if they died anyway.

IT JUST MAKES SO MUCH SENSE YOU GUYS.

This time, they are testing it on prisoners, so maybe their “head scientist” (more like two-head scientist amirite fellas) learned their fiking lesson. Ok but then Aclisia says these prisoners are the “first participants in the study” which ... Yeah it doesn’t make sense and I’m pretty sure they’re not participants nor is this a study.

Then Aclisia says this will be the “final batch.” So ... the Lunamere guard is not classified as a test subject nor a “participant,” and these guys are “participants” but will hopefully be the “first” but also “final” test subjects?

You’d think having two heads would make for a better scientist.

You’d think having two heads would make for a better writer ...

One of the prisoners calls Nor a “scnav,” which does sound nastier than all the other dumbass curse words they scrapped, and Nor says that they’ll begin testing on that one.

Aclisia says that “the weapon” is effective on any body part, as long as it comes in contact with the skin and can enter the blood stream. So ... Which one of those? Cuz having both makes no sense. The former sort of makes the other irrelevant. Also, what if an alien creature doesn’t have skin or blood? I guess it’s just universal. Even though they’ve only tested it on one alien species before ... and she died from it.

Flawless worldbuilding, lads.

We find out that Zenith has the ability to “to enthrall a person or terrify them, depending on how strong their will was” which is ... dumb as hell even before combined with the fact that 1) they haven’t tested it on live subjects until now and 2) it apparently transcends species. And now you’re telling me it will also work differently on different individuals based on their “will?” How is that even quantifiable? And if it is, how did they define it? How did they define something so nebulous so closely, without ANY test subjects, to the point of making this silver goop able to tell apart who has a strong will and who doesn’t?

Whatever. Zenith seems to work and the prisoner now obeys Nor’s every whim.

He lowered his head in an attempt to bow, even with his hands tied.

You don’t need your hands to bow but go off.

The other prisoners get Zenith’d as well.

[Nor] turned to Darai and Zahn with a grin as solid as steel. “My soldiers, it’s time to darken the stars.”

And we got Zenith’d too, my lads.

summary: high school basketball team star player lai guanlin and you a/n: requested; i love basketball x guanlin very much so thanks for requesting this heh

“y/n!!!” you see seonho waving his whole entire arms at you trying to get your attention from where you were in the stands

you acknowledged him with a small wave, horrified bc wtf that had attracted all the attention of the people around you too

tbh you weren’t really one to go for your school’s basketball games

like 1) you don’t even know the rules of the game so what’s the point and 2) you didn’t know anyone from the team up til now anyway so it was just boring for you

however your friend seonho had just recently joined the team as a newbie and he was super jealous of all his teammate hyungs who had like literal fangirls screaming for them at every game

so of course he begged you to come to the game and pretend to be his fangirl

never mind the fact that he wasn’t even playing he was literally the water boy lmao

but yes, so here you were at the game confused af and just cheering whenever the ball went into the hoop

and sometimes cheering for seonho when he got up to hand the players their water bottles lmaooo

tbh as the game progressed you started getting kind of absorbed in it

and you realised that there was this one super tall player from your school who was making a hell lot of hoops?

and the more you focused on it the more ridiculous they got like literally he’s so far from the hoop?

or sometimes he isn’t even facing the hoop for god’s sake does he have eyes on his back or something??

by the time the game ends with an obvious victory for your school thanks to this guy you’re pretty convinced that there has to be some sort of magic involved in this

anyways as everyone starts piling onto the court to congratulate the players you make your way to your bro seonho to say good job with the water

when you get to him he’s super excited and hyped like

“y/n did u SEE that one hoop that was out of this world?!!! and that one sick lay up from the third quarter?? omg”

and you just let him fangirl to you because you’re a good person like that

but halfway he gets interrupted by one of his team players asking him to make his way somewhere for a brief team meeting

you look up at him and realise it’s the magic player from before so you’re like “hey!! good job just now it was so amazing to watch you play!”

and he just mumbles a “thanks” while shyly rubbing his neck

and you’re like aw that’s kinda cute bc you expected him to be more confident considering his skills

but that was that

a few days later you and seonho are at the tables outside your school’s cafeteria trying to finish up this economics project that you two are partners for

(trust you two to pick such a noisy spot to get work done lol)

but you guys are dying. like the project is impossible and you thought you didn’t understand what was going on in class but here’s seonho who isn’t even sure of your teacher’s name

so you’re ready for death and are about to just give up and ask your classmate friend for rescue when the magic player from the game the other day makes his way up to yall

apparently he has to pass seonho something but after he does he just stands around kind of awkwardly for a few seconds watching you two

and you’re like uh what

and seonho is like “hyung whats up” so the guy is just like “uh nothing i’m just waiting to meet a teacher but i have nothing else to do now so...”

“aw hyung join us!!! come here sit down!!”

as if you didn’t have enough distractions smh

magic player is still shy and reserved but once you guys explain to him what you two were looking so frustrated over he offers to help

“wait so on top of being a magic player you’re also good at your studies??”

those two look at you like wtf is a magic player but the guy just nervously chuckles and is like “uh.. not really but,, yeah i guess?”

so with his help you guys get done with the project and by the end of it you’re thinking that perhaps this guy was the most capable person in your school

and after that there’s still time left before he has to meet his teacher so you three go over to shoot some hoops and it’s hilarious because you are as bad as magic player is good

he tries teaching you from the basics but you insist on trying to score while facing away from the hoop from even just the first try bc that’s just the type of person you are

overall a good time & you’re lowkey irritated that on top of being super capable, magic player is also a nice person like wtf?? god really took his time on him

from that day onwards you magically start noticing him everywhere

like wtf you didn’t even know he was in your math class? but apparently he was

and now and then you see him walking down the halls and you think to yourself like wtf how have i never noticed him before he’s so tall

one day you’re in the cafeteria eating lunch with your bestie when suddenly your friend is like

“yo don’t turn behind now but guanlin keeps looking at you”

and you’re like who’s guanlin

and your friend is like wtf?? how do you not know who he is

so ofc you turn behind super fast to find out and guess who you see looking right at you

ofc it’s magic player

he averts his gaze right away when he realises you saw him though so you’re like huh what’s that all about

“does he like you?? dude does THE guanlin like you?”

you’re like wtf how did you get to that conclusion and btw he doesn’t even know me well

“know you WELL? but that means he does know you then?”

you can’t win

over the next few days your friend observes every single interaction between guanlin and you & comes to the grand final conclusion that he likes you although you keep denying it

bc as much as you thought he was super capable and nice and skilled and tall and handsome, you didn’t know him well enough

and also bc it would be embarrassing if you believed it but turns out he doesn’t like you lol

but your friend keeps insisting and tbh you feel yourself getting swayed by her

one day he asks you for a pencil during math class and you’re like ???

why he asking me when he could have asked the girl on his left side instead?? is my friend right DOES HE LIKE ME oh no

so you’re like ok. you gotta find out

you meet seonho after a while in your next economics class

and after the lesson ends you’re like “psst seonho just wanna know but has guanlin given his jersey to anyone yet?”

in your school a player giving his jersey to someone = i’m interested in you

and seonho waggles his eyebrows at you like “heyyy are you interested in guanlin hyung?”

it just ends up with you flustered and answerless so you just give up

but guess who walks by at that exact moment

yes ofc it’s guanlin

and to your absolute horror, seonho goes “HEY GUANLIN HYUNG!! y/n here just told me she likes you”

you’re like WHAT you’re completely mortified

and ready to murder seonho like wtf that boy’s really crossing his limits

you’re about to make a run for it without even looking up to see guanlin’s reaction when suddenly seonho is like “ok now it’s up to you guys” and he just pushes you two together and he makes a run for it

you are prepared to never talk to him ever again

and you’re plotting your revenge in your head when you hear guanlin go

“is that true?”

and you’re like what. uh. well is it true suddenly you’re confused about what you’re supposed to say

tbh you did kind of like him as a person,,

and if he was to confess you knew in your heart you wouldn’t turn him down

you don’t even dare to look up at him as you just kinda shrug and mutter something unintelligible

“you like me?”

why is he asking again kjfhdkjhgfj at this point you’re so flustered you’re sure none of this is real

so you just nod like you don’t even know anymore

so you hear a soft chuckle and he’s like “check your locker tomorrow morning” and he leaves

the whole day you’re out of it like wtf that might have been the most embarrassing moment

you had just told guanlin you liked him although you weren’t even sure

and why did you have to check your locker tomorrow morning? what did he mean?

alas, after several hours of mental torture and a nearly sleepless night

you arrive at school and open your locker with trembling hands

just to see a neatly folded jersey in it with a note on top of it

“come cheer for me instead of seonho next time”

I did half marathons and triathlons years ago! Stopped then for a while just do 5 and 10Ks now

Stranger: Hi

You: hi

Stranger: How are you?

You: a little stressed but okay

Stranger: I hear you

You: wha about you?

Stranger: Pretty good thanks

You: anything on your mind?

Stranger: Not a lot, just in from a run

You: oh, thats nice

You: do you run a lot?

Stranger: Yeah pre lockdown, 3 times a week. A bit more now I guess to keep sane!

You: thats cool!

Stranger: you run too, eh?

You: no, not really... I guess I don't have quite the motivation

Stranger: Hey I hear that, We all go through spells like that! Running is great to unwind though

You: yeah, I normally go on long walks

You: but for some reason it's hard to bring myself to run

Stranger: That's absolutely fair! I know plenty like that. Running takes practice

You: did you run competitively before?

Stranger: It's a financial firm, That's my background

Stranger: Still do some finance and number work But I'm Over recruitment in the firm now and oversee how new grads and interns settle in

You: if you don't mind me asking random questions, what are some misconceptions that people have about working in financial firms?

Stranger: Think we are all serious. Or that we make maths jokes... Neither of which are true

You: I think I had a family friend who was in finance, I heard he worked very long hours

You: I don't know much though

Stranger: Yeah That's pretty true actually, Wish it was a misconception!

You: aww haha

You: what makes it long hours?

Stranger: I generally start at 8 and I'm lucky if I'm out by 5, Sometimes it's after 6

Stranger: A lot of meetings, accounts, I give talks and workshops to new grads/interns/students etc. So that keeps me busy now too

You: huh and there's stuff you have to finish by the end of the day?

You: I feel like my perception is like people leaving after 8 or 9 or something

You: and then people going to get drinks

You: idk if that's completely off at all though lol

Stranger: Generally yes - We have to finish accounts by end of the day

Stranger: Sometimes I can leave planning a workshop or talk or getting back to emails till the next day but Then it builds up

You: right that would be bad

Stranger: Haha Yeah some of the guys do that Alright, We'd all feel like drinking after work at times

You: lol I don't really drink much (and I'm not very social) so I worry about how I come off if I decline hanging out like that

Stranger: Haha Hey mate, I rarely drink with them either to be honest - There's absolutely no pressure!

Stranger: I am always trying to convince co-workers to join me at the gym or running, Guess that makes me boring!

You: awww haha

You: yeah I'm never quite sure to what extent it counts as a work obligation or people just hanging out

Stranger: Hahaha No way is it an obligation buddy! We all have different commitments and interests in our life outside work!

You: like one time a supervisor I had when I was an intern invited me to hang out with his friends they were visiting a brewery

Stranger: That's a nice idea But I hope you didn't feel under pressure to show up

You: ah... I came up with an excuse

You: but I also worry about it making me seem cold

You: although I am fairly antisocial I think

Stranger: Hey That's no hassle - I am sure he absolutely understood, No way are you the first person who couldn't make it!

Stranger: Definitely doesn't make you antisocial either

You: ^^ I think I just don't really enjoy hanging out with people for some reason

You: I think omegle is nice because I don't have to go anywhere lool

You: my younger brother was sort of interested in it

You: but then decided to do computer science

You: why did you choose finance btw?

Stranger: Oh Cool

You: I guess, what got you interested?

Stranger: I did a general business degree, I liked business at school

Stranger: And then specialised in finance

You: ohh interesting

You: do they have general business degree for university education?

Stranger: Yes

You: I feel like we don't have those at the undergraduate level in the US

You: most of our business schools are post-graduate

You: MBA

Stranger: I understand, We are lucky here Iguess

You: I wonder why a lot of things need post-graduate degrees here in the US

You: it's the same for medical education here I think

You: medical school is only after a bachelor's degree

Stranger: Yeah I have no idea

You: whereas almost everyone else in the world, you can go to medical school after high school

You: do you have anything you're passionate about, aside form running?

Stranger: Working out and playing football. Swimming a bit

You: oh I swam in high school

You: swimming is much more comfortable than running lol

You: at least in my opinion lol

Stranger: Haha yeah I hear you, Easier and more relaxing!

You: do you have a team you play football with?

Stranger: Yes!

Stranger: Probably my favourite thing to do, Really love it!

You: that's great!

You: are they your old team, or did you find a team?

Stranger: Yeah it's the same team I've played with all my life

You: wow it's nice that you're able to stay together

You: I feel like it is harder to find adult leagues of things once you grow up

Stranger: Yeah Absolutely! New members are always welcome on my team

You: Have there been many people who left over the years?

Stranger: But I understand what you mean, All our new players really are 16-18 and played on our kids teams for about 10 years

You: ahh

Stranger: Yes, People usually retire at about 30 and plenty give up as a teenager or in their 20s too

You: I feel like the intensity drops have high school / university too

You: or at least, that was my perception

You: *after

Stranger: For some yes, But not all! We still train very hard 2-3 times a week (pre-corona!)

You: wow haha

You: There was a master's swim team at the place I used to go to

You: but I remember always feeling like they were slow when I was in high school

You: but I'm probably slow now lololol

Stranger: Haha No I'm sure the masters are slow too!

Stranger: I actually took improver swimming lessons for adults before the lockdown, Loved them

Stranger: They are for adults who can swim But Would like to get better, Definitely recommend them to anyone!

You: that's cool

You: are your triathlons usually open water?

Stranger: Yes!

Stranger: They were that was a long time ago

Stranger: A long way off that now haha

Stranger: Of course the swimming instructor loved hearing I once did triathlons!

You: right

Stranger: For many years my swimming had been a 15 minute or so cool down after the gym

Stranger: I'm lucky the pool is at the gym But I Hadn't swam properly in years

You: mhm

You: I wonder when our gyms will reopen again

Stranger: Yeah Soon enough here

You: well, I think I will get going
