This is one of the saddest scenes in shameless for me. The way Lip goes on these rants, all Frank style, is hearbreakin'. And while I normally feel like I understand Ian the most out of the characters from the show (being bipolar and doing crazy shit while 'm not fully myself), I also know a thing or two of being exactly like your father in the worst way possible.

Natalia Arno was fully inside the hotel room before she noticed the smell. It was sickly sweet, like a cheap perfume at the drug store, only more nauseating. [...] The Russian activist and non-profit director had been on the road, meeting with donors and organisers looking for ways to bolster democracy back in Russia. [...] Three hours later, Arno woke up with an excruciating pain inside her mouth — a burning sensation so unbearable she could barely open it. [...] By the time she had checked in at the airport, she could no longer stand straight. Her vision was blurred; she wobbled. In her mouth, she tasted stone. On the plane, Arno began hallucinating. Ever since Vladimir Lenin set up his poison factory, known as the “Special Room”, over a century ago, poisonings have become one of the Kremlin’s preferred ways to eliminate, cripple or terrorise enemies and critics. Over the decades, it has built up unrivalled expertise in the field. [...] Most targeted poisonings are, by design, hard to detect. [...] The horrific details of Russian poisoning attacks have accumulated over decades: the hiding of a ricin pellet inside the tip of an umbrella said to have been used in 1978 to stab the Bulgarian dissident writer Georgi Markov in the leg, killing him in less than a week. The placing of a radioactive isotope, Polonium-210, in the green tea drunk by the former Russian security services agent and Putin critic Alexander Litvinenko in 2006. The smearing of one novichok variant, a deadly nerve agent, on the British double agent Sergei Skripal’s door in 2018 and another on Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s underpants in a Siberian hotel room in 2020. [...] In October 2022, Elena Kostyuchenko, a Russian journalist working for the independent news outlet Meduza, became violently ill on her way back to Berlin from Munich. The same month, Irina Babloyan, a radio journalist with an independent station, got sick on the day she was meant to travel back from Tbilisi to Berlin via Armenia. Kostyuchenko and Babloyan experienced similar symptoms: sharp pain in the upper abdomen, palms that burnt or swelled, severe vertigo and fatigue. [...] Western governments may struggle to keep up with the security threat. The universe of potential toxic chemicals is limitless — and the advance of technology has multiplied the ways in which an enemy might use them. “There are agents we don’t even know exist that are out there [being used] right now . . . That makes it really hard to do analytics,” Holstege said. Most toxicology labs do not have experience in examining state-sponsored poisonings using unusual toxic agents. [...] When we spoke over the phone, Grozev was unfazed by the argument that the victims weren’t high-profile-enough targets. “Talking to insiders in the security services, there’s a clear understanding that the concept of a ‘traitor’ is much more easily assigned these days than before,” he said. “Any Russian who opposes the war or criticises Putin now is a potential victim.”
Russia’s terrifyingly effective poisoning operation

curious but do you have any historical serbia/bulgaria headcanons?
oh anon. do i. i'm historical serbul's number one lover it's SOOO canon to me!!!! a while ago i wrote a friend a break-down of their relationship's timeline <3 here's the "short" edited version of that:
to me, bul is just a biiit older & serbia has been around give or take for as long as he's been alive. and that's a big reason why bul tolerates him in modern day HAHA like bul is a sentimental guy who's lost a lot of people, so he clings to the ones he's known forever and is more forgiving of their flaws
speaking of flaws!! serbia was such an annoyance to bul for the longest time that little fucker <3 he kept getting into fights with bulgaria, winning some but getting his ass kicked a lot, just to do it again. at some point he was under (tentative) bulgarian control, i like to imagine back then he spent the entire time being spiteful and trying to make bul's life hell <3
after that serbia was taken by the byzantines which... extra incentive for bulgaria to want to kick byzantium's ass even more than he already did?? give him HIS grumpy nation boy back!!! well ig he got him back because they both ended up under byzantium after a while LMAO. soon after they had their peak at the same time. the strong serbian kingdom & the second bulgarian empire started (and ended) at about the same time! so i like to think of them being like,, oh, this nation next to me is growing stronger, he's a formidable enemy and a threat but like that's kind of hot !!! serbia was one of the 2 things keeping bulgaria from being able to get more territories to the west which pissed him off too idk i just love serbia never NOT being a thorn on this guy's side :,) u get made bulgarian once and in retaliation u annoy that man forever it's very serbiacore!
then u get to ottoman times where,, ok so u and your ex-enemy are stuck together under this guy's rule who you both hate. you already had sexual tension between you for a WHILE, things are bad & scary and you're worried you're gonna die like byzantium did, of course you're gonna find solace in each other!! i think they were together (in a very on-and-off not-putting-a-name-to-it way) for a while but they probably broke it off for good after some kind of big argument, maybe about bul's hesitation to fight for his independence (and after that, bul started dating romania)
the serbobulgarian war really messed up their relationship and trust they'd built over the years. after it, they only started being friendly-ish again when they fought side by side in the first balkan war, but i think that serbia declaring war on bul (to stop him from unifying and gaining power) after centuries of being together is one of bul's most painful memories to this day. the relationship turned sour again after the second balkan war, and then ww1, and ww2, and... so forth, until they started hanging out (& hooking up <3) again during communist times. and there u have it !!

pleaseeee elaborate on your robul marriage post bc i've been thinking about this concept all day....!!! i need a full length post 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'll try my best but I am terrible at explaining myself sometimes but I will for you anon!!! (and also because RoBul has been consuming my thoughts lately)
(Also this post is a mess and I probably got some info wrong i'm sorry)
First of all, before actually talking about RoBul I do need to mention the history behind the proposals!! So during the Middle Ages, you probably know that Bulgaria was an empire, twice! And At times, Wallachia & romanians(who were called vlachs at the time alongside probably othee ppl who were also called vlachs, which yes, makes it confusing to research.) were part of it. The guys who founded the second bulgarian empire (Asen & Peter) were also probably vlachs, so there was cooperation between the bulgarians & vlachs in the empire.
This was one of the reasonings for the union essentially, that bcs they worked together well in the past, they would also work well tovether now, and together be pretty strong. Bulgaria especially would have had a lot to gain through the union(it wasn't independent and had only recently gained some autonomy from the Ottoman Empire), which was the reason proposals mostly came from the bulgarian side.
Anyway yada yada yada all the proposals for the union were fruitless, because of a lot of factors, which could be basically summarised like this: Neighbouring countries didn't want this to happen, and both Bulgaria and Romania had different goals and plans, sometimes that contradicted eachoter.
But if somehow they had succeeded to unite, well, that's certainly an interesting scenario. And now I will mention the union of Moldavia & Wallachia, which would form Romania. You see, those two principalities weren't allowed to truly unite by the powers of Europe, but they had not said that the danubian principalities could not elect the same leader to form a personal union, which led to Romania.
During the reign of king Carol I, he had considered doing this, aka being elected by Bulgaria too, to form a union of this king, but this was strongly opposed by Russia & Austro-Hungary, so yeah. But if he had somehow done this & Austro-Hungary & Russia didn't like...attack...uhmm...Romano-Bulgaria (I GUESS???) immediately, I guess Robul would officially be married!! Let's say they unite in like the 1880s.
Which comes with a lot of questions, obviously, that I will gloss over and just focus on RoBul. Thing is, I think Ro & Bul have somewhat different opinions on marriage. I mean, I see Bul as being way more keen on the concept of marriage than Ro is, so like Ro isn't very into marriage I guess? I see him aa someone who really values his freedom and independence, and isn't very willing to tie himself down, thought he'll do it for someone he loves. And that someone is Bul in this scenario.
Honestly...I think at first it is alright. I think Ro would have more control thought, similar to Austro-Hungary in a way, since from what I read, it would have been a similar kind of union to this one. I think Bul would be fine with this tho, especially at the start. He trusts Ioan(my human name for Ro) and his judgement, and Ro would also seek his opinion on things. Ro is happy about having control on some stuff.
But they do clash, quite a lot. Their personalities and view on things and their friends are different. Serbia is Ro's friend...while him and Bulgaria often don't see eye to eye. Russia and Bulgaria as well...yeah. Ro does not like Ivan very much, and Tsvetan also has conflicted thoughts on him, but veers towards liking him.
And also!!! Unless Bulgaria somehow achieved independence, Romania qould go back to being a vassal. Which well, I doubt Ioan would be fond of that. Honestly, I cannot say if being an union would help Bul achieve independence sooner, but it is not that important I suppose.
Also the capital of such a state would probably be Bucharest, like how the capital of Austro-Hungary was Vienna.
And to continue, as time goes on, I do think all these factors, including the political and cultural differences do put on a strain on their relationship. I cannot say if they would even enter the Balkan Wars, but this would also be a reason for fighting between them. Romania tends towards being neutral and really thinking things through while Bulgaria does tend to act based on instict and feelings, so I can see them participating in the first balkan war, and when Bul does not get what was promised for him, I can see him wanting to start the second balkan war, while Ro is trying to stop him from doing so, because it would be pointless in his opinion (as he was less focused on Bul's goal to unite with Macedonia and more focused on Transylvania and Moldova, which was definitely something they argued about!)
But I think they do have good times, really. I mean, being together like when they were children (in the middle ages) is wonderful for both of them. I think they can be very sweet together, and being marriage would def appeal to them because of being almost always together.
And now I am gonna stop talking about alternate reality and focus on their relationship more(because I suck at alternate history). The thing is, as I already said, where Ioan thinks, Tsvetan feels. And I think they do appreciate eachoter for these qualities, but in the end when you have different opinions about a lpt of things it's very hard to be in a marriage, especially if this marriage holds the fate of a country. I think they'd try to pretend those problems aren' there, thought, until they eventually have to face them with no way to run away from them. Alrhough I see Tsve as more willing to talk about things, while Ioan wants to pretend nothing is wrong and is non-comfrontational unless he believes talking will help him.
So at the end, things are...bad. towards the first world war, their relationship is already standing on it's last leg, but WW1 in this reality is what kills it truly. They each become their own country, like Austro-Hungary, and just, not talk to eachoter for a long time.
Althought...there is another scenario, in which they unite in the communist era. So like, everything happens the way it did in actual history until the communist period, where somehow those 2 manage to unite. I guess they'd fight for different reasons then, as again Bul kinda likes Russia & Ro Does Not. They probably separate in the 90s.
Also in these scenarios RoBul 100% has a way more complicated weird relationship going on and they do make it other people's problem.

Leaders in Bulgaria are letting women be killed instead of updating laws against domestic violence
SOFIA -- On March 9, Kristina Blagoeva, a 32-year-old woman from Bulgaria's capital, contacted the Animus Association, an NGO that offers counseling and support to victims of domestic violence. She told the organization that the previous day the man she was having a relationship with had threatened to kill her.
Less than a month later, her body was found in the trunk of a car, with two bullets in her chest. On April 7, her partner, Kaloyan Kaymakchiyski, was charged with her murder. The prosecutor's office said the most likely motive was that Blagoeva had ended the relationship. The case has reignited a debate in Bulgaria about the country's domestic violence law, which rights activists and legal experts say needs modernizing to better protect women and has resulted in the deaths of dozens of women. But despite efforts to change the law, conservative factions in parliament have blocked any changes that would bring EU member Bulgaria in line with European norms, citing "gender ideology" and "traditional Christian values." The major flaw in Bulgaria's legislation, activists say, is that while restraining orders can protect women from being stalked or abused, they can't be obtained by women like Blagoeva, who are neither married nor living with their partners.
Tumblr media
Yulia Andonova from Bulgaria's PULSE Foundation, which supports victims of domestic violence, says the current domestic violence law "isn't working" and is an "outdated" understanding of human relationships that does not correspond to current realities. The existing law considers domestic violence to be "any act of physical, sexual, mental, emotional, or economic violence…committed against persons who are related, who are or have been in a family relationship or in a de facto marital partnership." That definition is not expansive enough, say those calling on lawmakers to amend the law. "Think about how many people there are in such a situation. They have boyfriends but do not live together, whether because they are young and still live with their parents, or they are divorced and have children and an independent lifestyle, or they just live separately, work a lot, and spend only the weekend together," Andonova says. While there are no official, agreed-upon statistics in Bulgaria on the number of domestic violence victims, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said this month that cases were escalating. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting lockdowns, there was an increase in the number of domestic violence incidents reported worldwide.
In a November 2022 survey by the National Statistics Institute, 20 percent of Bulgarian women between the ages of 18 and 74 said they had experienced sexual, physical, or psychological violence by their current or former partner. One third of women aged 18 to 29 said they had experienced violence from an intimate partner.
After Blagoeva's killing, questions were asked in public and in the media about why the Animus Association hadn't reported the case to the police. Both the Animus Association and the PULSE Foundation said that if they had flagged the case to the Interior Ministry, Blagoeva probably would not have received the protection she needed -- and almost certainly not in time.
"If Kristina [Blagoeva] had filed such an application [for a restraining order], it is unlikely that any court would have allowed it to be considered at all," Katya Krastanova from the Animus Association told RFE/RL. Given that Blagoeva wasn't living with her partner, her case wouldn't be considered domestic violence under Bulgarian law.
Without being able to obtain a restraining order, the only other way for someone like Blagoeva to seek protection is to go to the police and report death threats and stalking. But both Krastanova and Andonova say that generally this is not effective. Unlike a restraining order in a domestic violence case, which is usually issued on the spot in Bulgaria, prosecutors would need to collect evidence to build a case before filing charges -- and that process can typically take months, too long for those, like Blagoeva, who are in acute need.
"In [Blagoeva's] case, she was a victim of psychological harassment, surveillance, and stalking, and of indirect threats to her life. These facts are extremely difficult to prove, and it takes a long time for the police [to investigate]," Krastanova said.
Bulgaria's approach is at odds with the main document that regulates protection against domestic violence in Europe, the Council of Europe's Istanbul Convention. The convention, which Sofia has signed but not ratified due to cross-party concerns about recognizing a third gender and same-sex marriage, defines domestic violence as any act of violence "between former or current spouses or partners, regardless of whether the perpetrator lives or has lived together with the victim."
The 37 European countries that have signed and ratified the Istanbul Convention are required to implement a number of measures in order to prevent crimes, protect victims, and prosecute offenders.
Changes were proposed to Bulgaria's domestic violence law in 2022. Under the pro-Western government of Kiril Petkov, who served as prime minister from December 2021 to August 2022, the Justice Ministry launched a working group, including judges and NGO representatives. Among the proposed changes to the law was getting rid of the concept of "de facto marital cohabitation" and replacing it with an "intimate relationship," which would expand the scope of the law to include partners who did not live together.
The proposed change, however, was left out of the final version of the bill. The PULSE Foundation told RFE/RL's Bulgarian Service that the proposal had been rejected by the ruling coalition partners, the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the populist There Is Such A People party, because people in homosexual relationships would be included in the concept of "intimate relationships" and also given the right to protection.
RFE/RL's Bulgarian Service asked both the Bulgarian Socialist Party and There Is Such A People about their positions on the proposed amendments but did not receive a response.
Since 2020, Bulgaria has been governed mainly by caretaker governments and has seen five parliamentary elections in the past two years.
Former Justice Minister Nadezhda Yordanova from the Democratic Bulgaria electoral alliance, a member of Petkov's coalition government, was among the submitters of the bill in the parliament. She declined to comment to RFE/RL on which of the then coalition partners were opposed to the law being amended. She did confirm, however, that opponents of the proposal said the possible inclusion of same-sex couples in the legislation was an issue but not the only one.
"The main problem was how to divide the genuinely long-term relationships from those that are short-term, random, and do not involve a lasting commitment," Yordanova told RFE/RL's Bulgarian Service.
In the end, parliament never passed the bill. In January, invoking "traditional Christian values" and "gender ideology," lawmakers from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the center-right GERB party, the nationalist Bulgarian Rise party, and the far-right Revival party rejected the planned changes to the legislation.
Yordanova told RFE/RL that Democratic Bulgaria will attempt again in the future to have the law amended in parliament, with a new approach being worked on to satisfy "conservative" factions of society.
For women like Blagoeva, though, it all comes too late.
"It's absolute nonsense," says the PULSE Foundation's Andonova to reject a bill aimed at helping women because of vague fears of gender ideology. "We don't have a working law. Obviously, there is no political will for people to live with dignity in this country," Andonova said. "That's the ugly truth."

The Ottoman Empire, at its height, was one of the largest and most powerful empires in history, covering vast territories in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Here's a list of present-day countries that were once part of the Ottoman Empire, along with the years they were under Ottoman rule:
1. **Turkey (Anatolia and Thrace)**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: 1299-1922 (The empire officially ended in 1922 with the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.)
2. **Greece**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 14th century (parts of Greece) to 1821 (Greek War of Independence) and the formal recognition of Greek independence in 1829.
3. **Bulgaria**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 14th century to 1908 (Bulgarian Declaration of Independence), with full independence recognized in 1908.
4. **Albania**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 14th century (parts of Albania) to 1912 (Declaration of Albanian Independence).
5. **North Macedonia**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 14th century (parts of the region) to 1912 (Declaration of Macedonian Independence).
6. **Bosnia and Herzegovina**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 15th century to 1878 (Congress of Berlin, when Austria-Hungary was granted administrative control).
7. **Montenegro**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 15th century to 1878 (Congress of Berlin, when Montenegro gained international recognition).
8. **Serbia**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Late 14th century (parts of Serbia) to 1878 (Congress of Berlin, when Serbia gained full independence).
9. **Croatia**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Some areas in Croatia were briefly under Ottoman control during their expansion in the 16th and 17th centuries, but these territories were later reclaimed by the Habsburg Monarchy.
10. **Romania**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Southern parts of present-day Romania were under Ottoman control from the late 14th century to the early 19th century when various territories gained independence.
11. **Iraq**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Iraq was part of the Ottoman Empire until the end of World War I when British forces occupied the region.
12. **Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Israel/Palestine**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: These territories were part of the Ottoman Empire until the end of World War I when they came under the administration of various colonial powers, including France and Britain.
13. **Egypt**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Egypt was under Ottoman control from the 16th century until the early 19th century when it became a semi-autonomous Ottoman province under Muhammad Ali Pasha.
14. **Tunisia and parts of Algeria**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: These regions in North Africa were under varying degrees of Ottoman control until the 19th century.
15. **Libya**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Libya was part of the Ottoman Empire until the late 19th century.
16. **Saudi Arabia**:
- Years under Ottoman Rule: Parts of present-day Saudi Arabia were under Ottoman control, especially in the northern regions, during various periods.
It's important to note that the exact years and extent of Ottoman rule varied across these regions, and the process of decolonization and independence was often gradual and complex.

With 144 votes "in favor", the Bulgarian parliament adopted the amendments to the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence in the first reading. With them, "intimate relationship" is equated to marital partnership and cohabitation without marriage, and victims receive the same opportunities for protection.
The bill was supported by three parliamentary groups - GERB-SDS, WCC-DB and DPS. 58 deputies from BSP, "Vazrazhdane" and the independent Radostin Vassilev voted "against", and 8 from "There Is Such a People" abstained.
The proposal of the former Minister of Justice and current deputy from WCC-DB Nadezhda Yordanova that the changes be voted on today in the second reading, led to a new wave of accusations from the opposition.
What does the term mean?
After the case of 18-year-old Debora from Stara Zagora, the deputies gathered in an extraordinary session to vote on changes to the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence and the Criminal Code. The proposal of GERB-SDS, PP-DB and DPS to include people who are in an intimate relationship within the scope of the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence caused wide debates, both during the meeting of the legal commission and during today's plenary session. Both de facto cohabitation and intimate relationship are expected to be preserved in the second reading of the law on domestic violence. It will be added to the definition of an intimate relationship that it is a relationship lasting at least 60 days.
At first reading, the definition of an intimate relationship reads: "a voluntary relatively permanent union between two persons, which arises and exists as a de facto state, without the need for compliance with a legally regulated procedure and regardless of whether the persons share a household, the leading element of which is strictly personal in nature of their relationship".
According to Tsvetan Predov from TISP, the term intimate relationship should not be entered at all, because "it implies a lot of abuse, settling political and personal accounts, regardless of whether they are parental or the child-parent relationship".
Andrey Chorbanov from TISP asked for clarification of the definition of "intimate relationship".
"If a relationship is only sexual, is it intimate, or if it is only platonic, does it imply relative stability," Chorbanov asked.
Georgi Svilenski joined the people's representatives from TISP and asked the petitioners to explain what an intimate relationship is.
Nadezhda Yordanova from WCC-DB explained the motives of the petitioners who aim to expand the protection provided by the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence. She clarified that in the second reading the de facto conjugal cohabitation will be preserved and the intimate relationship will be added, the definition of which will be corrected as follows: "an intimate relationship is a set of voluntary and permanent personal, intimate and sexual relations between two persons, regardless of whether they share a household and the origin, content and termination of which are not subject to legal regulation by another law. Permanent, in the sense of the previous sentence, are relationships lasting at least 60 days".
The proposal for a new definition to be considered at second reading has also drawn criticism.
"It turns out that a minimum of 60 days will be accepted for what you consider to be a lasting intimate relationship. Firstly, who will count those days, and secondly, if 30 days have passed, what will these partners do? I don't think such legislation will be useful for the Bulgarian society", said Ivan Chenchev from BSP, expressing the opinion that attention should be paid to the educational system and the educational environment in the family, and Andrey Chorbanov TISP asked when the 60 days start - "from the first meeting or from the first sexual contact".
Nadezhda Yordanova clarified that the Civil Code is the law that offers protection and the changes in it will not change the Criminal Code.
"Colleagues, do not confuse the two laws. I understand that setting a time limit raises questions, but it is necessary, since the relative permanence was not accepted," said Yordanova.
The co-chairman of WCC-DB Kiril Petkov also commented on the changes, intervening in the case of Debora from Stara Zagora.
"Debora was in just such an intimate relationship. She was not married to the abuser, nor in a de facto relationship with him. When she received the first threats, if today's changes were a fact, she could have received protection. Today's debate shows how simplistic and limited this problem is being thought about in this room, because of this we will insist that there be no more," said Kiril Petkov.
However, the majority in the National Assembly decided to vote today and on the second reading of the adopted changes in the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence. 144 deputies voted in support, and 65 were against.
This time the opposition was united - "against" the proposal for a final vote on the draft law, but the 144 votes "for" of the governing non-coalition partners from GERB-SDS, WCC-DB and DPS, exceeded the 65 votes of the opposition from "Vazrazhdane", BSP and "There Is Such a People".
The opposition did not accept Nadezhda Yordanova's arguments for a second vote on the amendments to the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence in this meeting, which she formulated as follows:
"My arguments for this are as follows: First, I consider that there are exceptional circumstances - as required by Regulation 77, Paragraph 2, in view of the purpose of the law and the public relations which are regulated, and unfortunately, the data which point to rising cases of domestic violence".
The objections presented by Borislav Gutsanov from BSP:
"There is no urgency and you know it very well. Because the outrages you are doing something that really goes beyond all limits. The fact that you have the necessary 160 votes does not give you any right to rape the people's representative in the way you do it you do. And the sooner this intimate coalition ceases to exist, the better for the Bulgarian citizens".
Tensions escalated. His fellow party member Georgi Svilenski threatened to appeal to the Constitutional Court, and Kristian Vigenin explained why - because the rules are violated when there are proposals made in the text of the law before the second reading. He requested a recess and an urgent convening of the Law Commission of the National Assembly so that the law could be reviewed and a report submitted to the Commission.
The leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov also said that the rules were violated, pointing out that parliamentary groups made a request to introduce proposals between the first and second reading and accused the rulers of taking away the floor of the opposition, suspending the Constitution and in practice - mini -coup d'état: "What you are doing right now is taking away the right to vote and legislative initiative".
BSP MPs occupied the parliamentary rostrum and did not allow the speeches to continue. Rositsa Kirova, chairing the meeting, adjourned.
"There Is Such a People" announced that they will make a separate legislative initiative for changes to the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence in September.

Why are there even places called “refugee camps” in Gaza? And why are two thirds of the people living in Gaza, who were born there and lived there their entire lives, called “refugees” from a war that ended more than seven decades ago? The answers to these question unlock the core of the conflict. Here they are (Part 1; Part 2 in the first comment): 1.The 20th century has been marked by a transition from empires to states. We begin the 20th century when much of the world is divided between empires. We end it when much of the world is divided between states. When lucky, those states were based on the self determination of a people who share a common history, language, ethnicity, background religion and connection to a territory. (Zionism emerged in this context based on the idea of self determination for the Jewish people in the only territory to which they were ever connected as a people). When unlucky those new states were artificially created by receding empires drawing boundaries, forcing different peoples to share one state, leading almost always to civil war, dictatorship, or both. This transition has been bloody. It involved two world wars and numerous regional and civil wars. In the bloody process of empires receding and new states emerging to replace them, tens of millions of people were displaced, fleeing across newly created borders, typically to new countries with an ethnic makeup similar to their own. This was true of Hindus and Muslim, Ukrainians, Poles and Germans, Bulgarians, Greeks and Turks and Arabs and Jews. This was not unique. 2.What was unique is that one group only of refugees from that time and those wars were allowed to maintain themselves as endless refugees in anticipation of one day winning a war they had lost. Those were the Arab refugees from the war of 1948, later to be known as Palestinians. All other refugee groups, except the Palestinians, were presented with a clear message: “it’s tough, it’s tragic, move on”. There was a clear understanding that in the most fundamental sense there is no going back - not in place and not in time (thus, there was no such thing as “a right of return”). To seek to go back would mean endless war. And so the message was forward looking and future facing. Tens of millions of refugees and displaced persons, among them millions of Jews, would build new lives in the new countries to which they fled. 3.Except Palestinians. The war that the Arabs of the land and the surrounding countries waged to prevent a Jewish state from emerging and gaining independence failed to achieve its goals. Despite the violent onslaught of 1947-49, Israel emerged as a sovereign state. But the Arabs of the land, sustained by broader Arab support, refused to accept this outcome. They proceeded to undo it through a variety of means, including repeated wars, economic boycotts, international condemnations and a complete refusal of the refugees themselves to be settled, as it would effectively mean accepting that the war was over. 4.To that end of keeping the war of 1948 alive until its goal of undoing the Jewish state could be achieved, a temporary agency established to resettle the refugees - UNRWA (initially called REWA, but the Arabs insisted on the letters UN so that it would appear to enjoy international legitimacy) - was hijacked by the Arab refugees. As a result of this hijacking UNRWA effectively became a Palestinian entity devoted singularly to sustaining and stoking the idea that uniquely among the world’s refugees, Palestinians don’t need to move on and can keep insisting on “return”, both in space and in time, to a time when there was no Israel. UNRWA thus became the mechanism by which the Jewish people alone were denied the right to to consider their hard won self-determination and sovereign statehood as a done deal. (Part 2 continues in the first comment:)
5. One of the most important means by which UNRWA fulfilled its mission is inflating the number of Palestinians it registers as refugees. It does so by engaging in several unique practices, not applied to any other refugee population in the world: (1) Counting descendants of the original refugees displaced by the War of 1948 in perpetuity (by now into the fifth generation) automatically and with no qualifications; (2) Never removing any “refugees” from the count even if they acquired citizenship of another country, a status that for all other true refugees ends their refugee status; (3) Counting Palestinians who continue to live in the West Bank and Gaza, so in “Palestine” as refugees “from” Palestine. Once UNRWA’s inflationary practices are removed, almost none of the Palestinians who claim to be “refugees”, either as registered by UNRWA (around 5.7 Million) or self-claimed by Palestinians living in the West (a total of 8-9 Million) are actually refugees by any international standard. The vast majority of them are either (1) living in the West Bank and Gaza, and so clearly are not refugees “from” Palestine, still very much living there, and since almost all of them are by now second to fifth generation claimants they have also never been displaced by war - 2.2 Million; (2) Citizens of countries such as Jordan - 2.2 Million or various countries around the world - 2-3 Million. Citizens of countries are not refugees by any international standard. This leaves about 250,000 Palestinians who remain stateless in Syria and Lebanon, despite having been born there and never having been displaced by war. Those countries refuse to give them citizenship. They are certainly no longer refugees, but they are stateless. Of them, perhaps 30,000 are indeed refugees by international standards in that they were displaced by war, crossed the border and have not been given citizenship by any other country. Them, and only them, should be recognized as refugees. That is less than 1% of the total number of Palestinians who claim to be “refugees”.
6. In addition to its inflationary practices, the UNRWA compounds (“Refugee Camps”) and schools are the incubators in which the Palestinian national ethos of “revenge and return” was created and shaped. It is the ground zero Palestinian political organization in that it daily reinforces the Palestinian ethos that the Jews have no right to a state in any of the territory between the Jordan River and the Sea, and that Palestinians will one day undo Israel by means of “return”. Since the days of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, planned and perpetrated by UNRWA graduates, to the October 7th massacre by Hamas, also planned and perpetrated by UNRWA graduates (Muhammad Deif was raised in an UNRWA compound and studied in its school), UNRWA has sustained, nourished, educated and raised generation after generation of Palestinians dedicated to undoing Israel by “all means”, primarily violence and terror. Hamas, like Fatah before it, merely recruits UNRWA graduates ready to commit any atrocity in the name of “revenge and return”. It’s no coincidence that the two places where the perpetual refugee culture is strongest - Gaza and Lebanon - are also the most violent. In short, why are there still millions of people claiming to be refugees from a war that ended more than seven decades ago? Because to the Palestinians, that war has never ended, and they continue to believe that one day, with enough patience and violence, they could still win it to achieve their original goal: no state for the Jewish people anywhere from “The River to the Sea”. (The full history is of-course available in “The War of Return: How Western Indulgence of the Palestinian Dream has Obstructed the Path to Peace”).

King Gerard headcanons time, LESSGOOOO 💙💙💙
Tw// murder and abuse
♧ he/him/they/them pronouns
♧ Gay! He likes men!!! :DDD and he's also demisexual 🖤🤍💜🩶
♧ 5'7" (he's a bit taller than Johan but still short for a guy lol)
♧ 18 years old (since he's not a prince anymore when he turned 12)
♧ His birthday is on February 4th 🎂🎉🎊
♧ Has high functioning autism, epilepsy, and PTSD
♧ Besides English, he's fluent in French (the France and Belgium dialects), Romanian, Polish, Bulgarian, and Hungarian 🇨🇵🇷🇴🇵🇱🇧🇬🇭🇺
♧ His last name is Csintalan, meaning "mischievous, naughty" in Hungarian even tho he acts like the exact opposite of that lol
♧ Grew up in Hungary as a child but then moved to England so he could rule his own kingdom and be more independent 🇧🇬🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
♧ He despises his male relatives to an infuriating degree, he sometimes has thoughts of executing them but doesn't give in because he doesn't want the entire kingdom thinking he's a bad king
♧ He has an English-esque accent like Johan, except Gerard's accent is slightly more heavier than Johan's
♧ He likes flowers, going for walks through meadows, being serenaded/sang songs to (as long as it doesn't sound like a cat screeching bloody murder), hanging out with Clockwork Smurf, being generous to others, pastries and cakes, looking for constellations at night, plushes, and visiting Johan when he can! ^^
♧ He dislikes extreme weather, loud and sudden noises, feeling like he isnt capable of doing anything right, cemeteries/crypts, Peewit, blood and gore of any kind (he will have a mental breakdown if he sees it at all), crowded places (except for when hes looking outside his castle window), violence, hard and chewy foods, and seeing people cry and in distress.
♧ His father (Baron Laszlo) was beheaded for treason when Gerard was only 2 years old, and he witnessed the entire thing. This is one of the main causes of his PTSD.
♧ Has a very caring and loving mother (Baroness Boglárka) who lives in Hungary 🇧🇬
♧ Has a 12 year old sister named Dorina who lives with their mother
♧ Gerard is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Unlike most kings are, they are usually unjust, brutal, overbearing, and just plain mean. But not Gerard, he is a fair king who loves helping other people in need and offering acts of service to citizens of his kingdom every day. Even though his relatives have treated him like absolute shit for years on end, he surprisingly does not have a reputation for getting easily angered. He's stood up for himself in these dire situations and is very brave to do so.
♧ He does however have PTSD from his relatives verbally, emotionally, and physically abusing him ever since he was 6. He would be hit if he made a mistake and would get yelled at if he talked about how he truly felt about his relatives. He would get hit so hard that he would bleed or get knocked out, leading to several concussions throughout his life <:(
♧ He used to date Princess Francesca, but he broke up with her because he felt like he wasn't ready for a relationship and that he needed time to mentally heal.
♧ He used to rule a kingdom in England, but then he moved to Scotland to get away from his relatives as far as he could. He lives a much happier and low-stress life now („• ᴗ •„)

(The zones might be a bit off , because I based it on wiki and maps online)
So Khazars! Under them there were many Semi nomadic tribes!
The Hungarians (Magyards) , Passed from being under the Huns from under the Khazars , they will Rebell against them around 830 and move to Etelköz (the territory between the Carpathians and the Dnieper River.) They have the The Turul traits! (mythological bird of prey, mostly depicted as a Falcon)
The Bulgars (or Old Great Bulgaria), they aren’t really under the Khazars, but they do fight them (an Avar-Slavic alliance in the west, and Khazars in the east will defeat them and the First Bulgarian Empire will be formed) They also joined Attila and the Huns in invading the west in 400. They have Lion traits because that is the national animal of current day Bulgaria!
The Alans ! They will form the Kingdom of Alania when they get independent from the Khazars, but also will be killed by the mongol invasion later on
The Khazar khaganate worked basically as a buffer zone between the Sasanian Empire and the Byzantine Empire ! also : "Khazaria became one of the foremost trading empires of the early medical world, commanding the western marches of the Silk Road and playing a key commercial role as a crossroad between China, the Middle East and Kievan Rus'."
There is also the say that they converted to Judaism in the 8th century, because at the west there was Christianity and at the east Islam so to not take a part choose the third XD

• Six word flash fiction
"He died happy, knowing he lived."
—Alexander Hoffman
- This six word flash fiction of Alexander Hoffman means that an individual who passed away was happy and contented knowing that we was able to accomplish and finish his/her mission here on earth completely without having regrets and doubts. She/He left the earth and successfully did all the things and responsibilities that were assigned to them. Left the world knowing that they were able to enjoy their life to the fullest and experienced all the ups and downs which help them know themselves more. It is essential for everyone since it encourages you as an individual in balancing your life, allowing you to avoid certain people and behaviors that do not fulfill your goal. It is an important driving force to keep motivated when times are rough so that you can create and fulfill objectives for both the short and long term.

Sunday of the Prodigal Son
The third parabole of the pre-lenten period illustrating three  different sides of the act and effects of repentance, Following, the tax-collector humbling himself to get a glimpse of Jesus from a sycamore tree,   Publican and the Pharisee which shows the difference between fake and true repentance; here is the prodigal son which seal the message. All repentants are God’s prodigal sons, away from the promise land which is the heavenly Kingdom
Tumblr media
“Two Sundays before the beginning of Great Lent, the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15: 11-32) is read. That is the reason that particular Sunday came to be known as the “Sunday of the Prodigal Son.” In order to give Christians a vivid reminder of their withdrawal from their Heavenly Homeland and of their bondage to sin, following the Polyeleios Psalms at the Vigil, the Church chants Psalm 136 (KJV Ps. 137), “By the Waters of Babylon.” It is chanted on each of three Sundays preceding Great Lent.
Babylon was the capital of the empire of the same name, and was the place to which in 597 BC several thousand Israelites were taken from Judea and its contiguous province. Babylon went to war against Judea, and for several centuries, the Judean Kingdom ceased to exist. Seventy years after its defeat, when Judea was being restored, it was under Persian rule; later it came to be ruled by the Greeks and by Rome. Never again was there an independent Kingdom of Judea. It was only in 1948 that the independent State of Israel was created...” to be continued at Orthodox Christianity
SYNAXIS OF THE HOLY OECUMENICAL TEACHERS OF THE CHURCH AND HIERARCH: BASIL THE GREAT, GREGORY THE THEOLOGIAN AND JOHN CHRYSOSTOMOS
Tumblr media
Synaxis of the Three Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom: During the eleventh century, disputes raged in Constantinople about which of the three hierarchs was the greatest. Some preferred Saint Basil (January 1), others honored Saint Gregory the Theologian (January 25), while a third group exalted Saint John Chrysostom (November 13).
Dissension among Christians increased. Some called themselves Basilians, others referred to themselves as Gregorians, and others as Johnites.
By the will of God, the three hierarchs appeared to Saint John the Bishop of Euchaita (June 14) in the year 1084, and said that they were equal before God. “There are no divisions among us, and no opposition to one another.”
They ordered that the disputes should stop, and that their common commemoration should be celebrated on a single day. Bishop John chose January 30 for their joint Feast, thus ending the controversy and restoring peace.
ST PETER, TSAR OF BULGARIA (969)
Tumblr media
Saint Peter, King of Bulgaria, was the son of the militant Bulgarian prince Simeon. Saint Peter was distinguished for his Christian piety, and he often turned to Saint John of Rila (August 18, October 19), asking his prayers, spiritual guidance and advice.
King Peter concluded peace with Byzantium on terms advantageous for Bulgaria. He also gained recognition from the Patriarch of Constantinople for the autonomy of the Bulgarian Church, and the affirmation of a Patriarchal throne in Bulgaria, benefiting all the Bulgarian Church.
Saint Peter aided in the successful extirpation of the Bogomil heresy in his lands. He died in the year 967, at fifty-six years of age.

MARK 16:1-8
1Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 And they said among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?" 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away-for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. 6 But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. 7 But go, tell His disciples-and Peter-that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you. 8 So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:12-20
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh." 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
