Project 15
Apprenticeship Program Name: Radio Campbuzz Project Name: RJ for Rangdhonu and script writer for shows Program Date: Fall 2017 – Fall 2018 Program Description: I joined this program when Kashfia Ma’am was the advisor for the program. She assigned me to a RJ position for a weekly show called, “Rangdhonu”. And I had to write the script for the show as well. What I had to do was be a host for the show and the show is about pop culture and entertainment. So we had to talk about any new update on Hollywood and Bollywood. Program Justification: What the show provided was to let the students know about any pop culture and to let them enjoy some entertainment before going back to class. There were other shows but this show made me realize how fun it is to be a RJ. Due to this show, I was even awarded the best RJ in Radio Campbuzz of Spring 2018. Program Name: Rangdhonu. Program Time: Every Wednesday from 12 pm to 1 pm.

Zoe Saldana on the Hollywood Walk of Fame After smashing success as the alien warrior Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and more recently, Avengers: Infinity War, Zoe Saldana is on a path to eternal stardom, literally. She joins the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin and her co-actor Chris Pratt, by receiving her very own star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Zoe Saldana took to Instagram to express her gratitude, saying she is blessed and honored to be a part of the history of Hollywood. “May this open more doors for Latinx and all other under-represented community!” she further stated. Zoe Saldana has also appeared in James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar and the recent Star Trek trilogy. Being a constant presence in blockbuster sci-fi and fantasy films, Zoe Saldana is expected to become a top name in this specific genre quite soon. 2018 71st Cannes Film Festival From Tuesday May 8th til Saturday May 19th. Australian actress Cate Blanchett has been named as the President of the Jury. Asghar Farhadi's psychological thriller Everybody Knows, starring Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Ricardo Darín, opened the festival and competes in the Main Competition section The Han Solo spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story touched down Tuesday at the Cannes Film Festival, bringing its cast and a full-sized Chewbacca to the French Riviera extravaganza. Director Ron Howard, wearing a hat that read “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” introduced his cast before the film’s international premiere at Cannes. Sonam Kapoor wows at the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival 2018. Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan once again stole the show as she walked the prestigious red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, this time in a stunning ultra-violet, blue and red gown that reflected the metamorphosis of a butterfly. History was made at this year's 71st  Cannes Film Festival on Saturday as 82 women, representing the limited number of women filmmakers selected over its more than seven-decade history, made a symbolic walk up the red carpet. The stars, filmmakers and other professionals ascended the steps of the Palais des Festivals at the Cannes Film Festival, protesting for the solidarity of the women in the industry who are struggling for a voice, equal pay, as well as a safer work place. The five female members of this year's Cannes jury-- Cate Blanchett, Kristen Stewart, Ava DuVernay, Lea Seydoux and Burundian singer Khadja Nin, along with Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek and Marion Cotillard were among the group of women.
Link 3 Mim Mantasha Superstar in the making Winning the country's biggest pageant is not an ordinary feat. Mim Mantasha has won not just a crown, but also the hearts of millions. Awaiting a new journey, the Lux Channel i Superstar 2018 winner shares her story with The Daily Star. A final year student of Fine Arts at Jahangirnagar University, Mim has always been a creative and curious soul. She was an avid follower of the contest for a long time. This year, she finally took the decision to compete. Taking part in the competition was certainly not a cakewalk. “We went through vigorous training sessions. We did yoga in the mornings,” explains Mim.  Before the task rounds, the contestants went through fifteen days of training for ramp walk, acting, dancing, and many other skills. The photo shoots, acting, and improvisation rounds were Mim's favourite tasks in the competition. “I was nervous but in a scene, I got to convince people through my acting that my child was lost. I enjoyed it,” Mim smiles, adding that the competition was an overall memorable experience. Although she is highly enthusiastic about working in the media, she wants to take more preparations before doing so. She is now Lux Bangladesh's brand ambassador and has also won the opportunity to work on television and feature film projects of Impress Telefilm. Before hitting the silver screen, Mim wants to explore the world of television. Being a painter at heart, Mim also wants to continue painting and have her own exhibition in the future. Further to this, she intends to work for children who need special care. “I am in a fortunate position and it is our duty to take care of those in need.” says Mim. With great intentions, we hope Mim Mantasha excels at every step of her future endevours.

Avengers Infinity War Review The plot itself is pretty simple. There are six stones that possess mystic powers and he/she who possesses all the stones is by default the most powerful being in the universe. Our Marvel superheroes must forget their own conflicts and join forces against Thanos to restore the fate of the universe and its inhabitants. Of course, watch the movie to know how things pan out. Avengers: Infinity War is the movie of movies, and let me tell you why. Most, if not all, the characters of the MCU are present in this film and bring their own flavour into the mix. Thor is mourning the loss of his home and hammer, Stark feels he needs to take a break from saving the world, Captain America is still out to bring justice the right way, and Hulk has no control over himself. I don't know what formula the Russo brothers have applied in their direction but I watched in awe how all the characters blended to deliver multiple storylines within a movie. Yes, I have also compared this movie to a mega three-hour episode of your daily soap opera. Avengers: Infinity War is the comprehensive Marvel movie; it is the beginning of an end. It lifts you, it hits you, and leaves you with a cliffhanger extraordinaire. See it to believe it and it'll still be unbelievable. By next weekend, Infinity War will top $1.78 billion and could sit around $1.8 billion, ensuring Marvel's year-to-date tally exceeds $3.1 billion by next Sunday.
Deadpool 2 Marketing Right off the bat, you see how Deadpool has scratched out the 20th Century Fox logo and put “TBD,” which is a sly allusion to the ongoing Disney/Fox (and Comcast?) merger drama. The content of the letter is exactly what you might expect from the Merc with a Mouth. Pop culture references, silly puns, bad language, and Ryan Reynolds bashing. Then, at the bottom, instead of the #ThanosDemandsYourSilence, we get #WadeWilsonDemandsYourSisterSorryStupidAutoCorrectSilence. See, you guys, it’s funny! And not at all trying too hard. Kidding aside, the marketing for “Deadpool 2” has been pretty top notch, but perhaps not as great as the first film. Recently, the film premiered a music video for the soundtrack featuring Celine Dion singing an over-the-top ballad while a high-heel-wearing Deadpool does an interpretive dance around the diva. It’s ridiculous and fun. And also, the most recent trailer seems to have struck a chord with fans, who are coming down off their ‘Infinity War’ high.

I learned what to do or say after getting stuck during a live session. I have improved my speaking skills and the flow of a RJ host on how to talk and say because they have a different tone when it comes to a live session. I have taken all these skills from this program and I even got selected and did a short commercial video for Spice FM Radio. I also learned how to write a script for a radio show.

Kate Holt brings the women of South Sudan to MAC Birmingham
Katherine Emily Holt is a British photojournalist who was born in Zimbabwe and has spent the entirety of her career working in Africa and the Middle East. Kate Holt has travelled and learned a lot throughout her working years in photography and has continued to create moving projects that document different stories that show cultures in Africa, politics and out of the ordinary life experiences.
The exhibition
Kate Holt brings her beautiful exhibition to the Midlands Art Centre in Birmingham for people to view. The Midlands Art Centre was built in 1962 in Cannon Hill Park Birmingham. MAC Birmingham is one of the main attractions in the Black Country as it is full of exhibitions, art galleries, theatre, cinema, workshops, dance, comedy and crafts throughout the whole year. MAC Birmingham is dedicated to bringing different exhibitions to the Black Country to inspire all kinds of artistic people!
Katherine Holt has brought an admission free exhibition that explores the Women of South Sudan. The exhibition was first opened to the public on Saturday 30thMarch and will end on Sunday 19thMay 2019. The exhibition shows pictures that tell powerful and inspiring stories about the girls living in South Sudan despite all the hardships they face. The exhibition portrays a strong sense of female empowerment which could be ideal for any feminist writers or artists to go and explore deeper. These pictures were taken in 2018 as an assignment with PLAN International UK in South Sudan.
Holt ensured to bring an exhibition to the Black Country that will move all the audience that will go and see it. The photographs taken show us how the women in South Sudan navigate their daily lives despite living in a country where they are facing war, a lack of education, early teenage pregnancy, hunger and extreme poverty. This exhibition is an important one to go and explore as Katherine has carefully documented the stories of eight strong girls who still hold on to their dreams whilst telling us about the trials and tribulations they face in South Sudan. The purpose of these pictures is to evoke feeling from the audience, I felt touched and proud knowing these girls are getting a chance to use their voice to show us what women in Sudan are going through as this type of coverage isn’t in the mainstream media.
The women of South Sudan were granted independence in 2011 however things changed and took a turn when the power crisis happened in December 2013. South Sudan became a nation full of armed conflict as many people are still being killed in the civil war, a nation facing economic crisis and left millions of people without enough food to eat. The lives of these women along with their children remain in danger as the nation is still in the midst of a humanitarian crisis that has been driven by over four years of civil war. Kate Holt tries to portray this to us through this exhibition how these women are experiencing these hardships along with gender inequality and discrimination that is keeping them poor and hindering them from receiving an education.
Kate Holt’s career & awards
Katherine Holt has also worked on other women empowerment projects in the past. In June 2015, the photojournalist worked on a similar project on women’s rights, gender equality and child marriages. This project also aimed to document the hopes, dreams and aspirations of Ethiopian girls living in different parts of the country. The freelance photographer is a Guardian contributor that works for the International media, NGOs and is a director of the communications agency. She has consistently showed her skill behind the camera as she is an award-winning humanitarian. Holt has been awarded twice for the Amnesty award for Humanitarian Reporting. Once in 2005, she was awarded for her articles and in 2010 for a photographic series on elderly people in Zimbabwe where she was born. Her work has been honoured and been shown in exhibitions across many countries in the world. In 2010, Katherine produced work with six Ugandan & Burundian soldiers as she taught them photography when she was embedded with the troops on the frontline of Mogadishu. This exhibition was moved to the National Museum in Uganda but was permanently put in the AMISOM base in Mogadishu international Airport.
The exhibition in MAC Birmingham is one for everyone to attend before it closes from public viewing on 19thMay 2019 at 9pm. Kate Holt has done an incredible job with putting this exhibition together to increase awareness on such important stories that are not making the British mainstream media. The personal accounts from the eight girls are unique and Kate makes sure to show us how brave these girls are whilst living in a nation like South Sudan. Kate Holt worked with Plan International UK which has teams that have been responding to this ongoing crisis providing the necessary tools to households that will help improve their nutrition and promote their hygiene.

Here is a full view of this week's #WhatIsItWednesday puzzle: Serge Alain Nitegeka's "BLACK SUBJECTS: Still II," 2014, on view in "We the People: New Art from the Collection." The experience of being in exile and seeking asylum is central to Nitegeka’s identity and artistic practice. In both his sculptures and paintings, Nitegeka prefers to use wood, which he associates with the shipping industry as well as "informal housing," or slums. BOUNDLESS - Gallery LOCALEDUE, Bologna IT, January 11, 2018
The two artists on show, Barbara Jane Matera, Italian-American and Gedske Ramløv, of danish origins, started from a reflection in common, that sees the concept of border as a construct of man and a convention of society.
Playing on the ambiguity of the use of the term, they have focused with irony on the positivity that the word carries in itself. Their reflection has expanded and through different researches, that refer to philosophical and sociological approaches, the two artists exhibit drawings, videos and an installation, works that have internet resources as traits d'union.
Gedske Ramløv presents a series of twelve drawings, composing one single work entitled Terminator - studies for a topography of twilight zones (painful crossings).
The title Terminator derives from the astronomical term for the crepuscular line that marks the transit from day to night, an undefined line in which the elements of light and dark coexist. The passage between these two opposites is just a shadow line, and it can be seen as an element of contiguity or separation, never fixed, but always in progress. The inspiration for this reflection comes from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, who claimed that the dynamism of reality is based on the conflict of the opposites, in which one cannot exist without the other.
In this artwork the artist decided to work on the crossings that human beings have perpetually made in the course of history of man, as migrants or refugees. Being aware not only of the condition of the invisibility of these people, but also of the territories they pass through – shadow areas in all respects, unknown to those not directly involved – she made a work of identification of these territories, selecting, among many, only the ones that could be precisely found on Google Earth, a privileged tool for the geographical location.
Some of these crossings areas report to the past: the famous Ellis Island, which was bearer of hope and change of identity for those who were lucky enough to be permitted to go on, or of disillusionment and tragedy, for those who did not exceed the health criteria or were unwanted; the Berlin Wall; the Øresund, where Danish Jews were ferried to Sweden during the Second World War; the Grand Trunk Road, that became the pathway of the Great Exodus between India and Pakistan accomplished by thousands of Hindus and Muslims in 1947.
Others areas refer to present facts: the Rohingya drama in Myanmar, and the crossing of the border between Mexico and the United States. Other places refer to forgotten facts: the forced transfer of the entire population of the ancient Thule settlement in Greenland, to make space for an American military base; the attack suffered by a group of Tibetan monks, with the killing of a woman and the wounding of many others by Chinese soldiers at the Nangpa La Pass, on the border between Tibet (China) and Nepal, on September 30, 2006; the wait of hundreds of Burundian refugees gathered on the shores of Tanganyika Lake in the village of Kagunga in western Tanzania, on May 18, 2015. And others refer to crossings areas close to us, as the route of those facing the Libyan desert to reach Europe and, later, the Eurotunnel under the English Channel; or the river Suva Reka between Greece and Macedonia.
In drawing the sites, Ramløv maintained the flattening effect and the distortion of the satellite images determined by the algorithms of the digital program, that causes a sense of estrangement in observing the photos. She has taken into account the light/dark opposites, and has highlighted the shadows in the images, transmitting a sense of suspension, even psychological, that these spaces carry within themselves. The series of drawings, created with charcoal pencils on paper, consists in one long endless vanishing line, that can never be interrupted. Moreover, the artist decided to expose, isolated from the others, a smaller drawing representing The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden by Masaccio, deliberately ‘distorted’ as well as the rest of the drawings, the only one in which the human figure is present, constituting a real key to understanding the work.
Katia Baraldi, the curator

Coffea
Sioux Falls SD
The wonderful Phillips Street in Sioux Falls hosts the unexpectedly artistic charm of a larger metropolitan city. A perfect setting for this archetypical specialty coffee house. The charm of the staff is the #1 feature, which says a lot because I may have had my best poured over Burundian to date! A rare washed seed coming from east Africa, perfectly roasted in house, and meticulously brewed cup; kept my eyes closed just a little longer when drinking in each sip. I hope to come back and see my new barista friend, Sam to learn more about the city.
