Today's Anti-Kawaii Character of The Day is Sweetypuss, an old Hot Topic mascot created by artist Jim Benton! She fits into Busukawaii, J-Punk (western Punk), and mild Gurokawa imagery! In terms of personality, she does fit into Dorodere and Yangire archetypes!

So, another recent dream had these two weird reality screw-ups:
1. We were at my grandparents' house, when all of sudden, Mixmand entered with what was apparently supposed to be food from Olive Garden, but looked more like a Big Zax Snak with Cajun filets where the toast would normally go. I tried talking back to her, but she said a redundant sentence that I can't quite remember. Eventually, on our way back home, we were in a drive-thru at an ACTUAL Bojangles restaurant, but it looked like Jaiklob was trying to cut in line.
2. I was playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and I was competing in either the Lunar Colony battlefield, or a made-up exoplanet Grand Prix track. However, there was something odd about this dream version: the actual guest contestants (and quite possibly the Koopalings) were replaced with TME characters! (I'm not sure that any of TBC's other projects had playable characters...) Anyways, I decided to play as Dooble ('cause I think he's busukawaii), and I think each member of Panda Bractice was playable as well. I think I may have lost the battle(?) after that.
Yeah, I have no idea either.

Am I the only one who doesn’t judge Tsunku for the “pretty” comments? Like, what would he even say otherwise? “I choose only pretty girls for MM, sorry trainees and failed auditionees, y'all a bunch of butterfaces”? The bulldog comment sounds mean if you don’t get busukawaii/kimokawaii were buzzwords ~2010-13 and unconventional beauty+endearing vulnerability done right=wota bread-and-butter (sidenote, bulldog pups are ADORABLE) Like yeah it’s still sexist to comment on looks but idoldom is superficial by nature and at least Tsunku’s saying he purposely looks past popular current-day tastes and picks girls for OTHER reasons. But if you think the meanest thing a man can do is call a girl ugly (as opposed to dumb, lazy, talentless, boring, etc.) I don’t know what to say.

Summer Days with Coo - Anime Review
Do you love Studio Ghibli films? Summer Days with Coo is not a Ghibli film, but it reminded me a lot of one. It’s a great family-friendly feature length anime that kids and adults can enjoy together.
It has a lot of cute characters and a heartwarming story. It’s pretty obscure with only 2,300ish “watched” on myanimelist and 600 watched on anime planet. Hopefully if you haven’t heard of it yet, this review will inspire you to check it out for yourself.
Title: Summer Days With Coo
Genre: Family / Fantasy Adventure
Release Date: 2007 (Japan) as far as I know as of the time of this review, it has still not been licensed in North America
Studio: Shin-Ei Animation
Where to Watch: If you know Japanese you can buy the DVD from Amazon here. Otherwise, you will have to find a torrent or watch it on an anime streaming site thanks to fansubs.
Geeky: 3/5
Sweetie: 4/5
Story: 10/10 My Summer with Coo is a feature-length family film about a young “baby” Kappa. Kappas are mystical creatures in Japanese folktales which are thought to lure humans into the river to kill them.  You can read more about Kappa here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kappa_(folklore) It’s really interesting, especially after having watched the movie.
It starts out about as tame/innocent as Totoro or other Ghibli films, but then it gets really dark. (Still family friendly though).
The movie begins hundreds of years before the events of the main story. Coo (the baby Kappa) is with his daddy in the river, when some drunken samurai come walking by. Kappa are curious in nature and when Coo’s father approaches the samurai, he startles them which provokes an attack. Coo is too young to survive on his own, and unable to return to his river.
He “Dries Up” and then our main story begins, when a young human boy in modern times uncovers his fossil one day on his way home from school. He takes the fossil home, and his family are surprised to discover it is a kappa. They nurse him back to health with food, water, and kindness. Kappas can speak Japanese, so Coo becomes a very close friend to everyone in the house.
Eventually, despite their efforts to hide Coo, it is discovered that the family is hosting a real Kappa. This draws much attention from the media and changes the lives of the family who begin to lose sight of what’s best for Coo.
Characters: 10/10 Coo (and Kappa in general) are what is referred to as Busukawaii or Ugly-Cute. This is a trend that’s gaining popularity the last few years in Japan. Something that’s so ugly, it’s actually kinda cute. I love all of the characters in this anime. Even the family’s pet dog has a really unique personality and big impact on the story and family and on Coo. It’s the characters and the look into their family that makes this anime so enjoyable that I’ve watched it 5 times now.
Graphics: 2/5 I’m not a fan of the character designs. I like more “anime” looking characters, big eyes, white dazzling skin, blue or pink hair, etc. lol. This is more like what I would think disney would do if it were to make a movie about Japan (very true-to-life looking characters, dark hair, dark skin, small eyes, etc). Coo is cute, but he’s also pretty ugly lol. Just kinda a hard movie to “watch” because it’s so out there and different from “mainstream” anime techniques.
Music: 5/5 I really love the music in this film. It ranges from peaceful, playful tracks reminding you of your summer vacations, to dark, depressing, or even aggressive sounding tracks when the mood of the film shifts later on in the story.
Voice Acting: 4/5 – Some of the voices didn’t seem to match the characters in my opinion, but the main characters all delivered their lines with a lot of emotion, and since it’s such an emotional rollercoaster of a film, the voice acting really aided with the immersion.
Overall: 38 / 45 84%

I have successfully Frankenstein'd my most perfectest "Blythe" doll and she is my absolute favouritest thing right now. ( ˘ ³˘) 💕 I love her so much. So shiny!
For reference, this is put together with "factory" chubby Icy, which is a copy of Mimi Bobeck doll's body with an Icy head (not shown). Then I swapped the head with a "factory" bald middie Blythe.
I am SO THRILLED the neck joints fits and I didn't have to cut anything off, except I did break the hook notch thing behind her ear which is so expected of me ( ´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ ) but the head is still closing fine and she is still perfect.
I have had the chubby Icy since 2018. I never knew what to do with her until recently. The head and body proportion was not my favourite and I love how she turned out! Bonus is this head fits much better than Icy did and it doesn't droop down.
I even got the original Mimi back in 2018. I will likely try to somehow soften her head and see if I can remove it without destroying it eventually. I don't believe the chubby Icy / Blythe copies are sold anymore so this success is just reinforcing my hoarding tendencies.
She looks like a weird adult lady version of Kewpie. I might just make an onion wig for her later.
So here is my obscure Blythe doll log of total success.

J-Fashion Terms for Beginners Part 2
Tumblr media
Guro Lolita: A substyle of Lolita fashion; this is one of the few variants to stray away from the innocence and gentleness of styles like Classic and Sweet Lolita. Unlike the more well-known Gothic Lolita, Guro Lolita ignores mysteriousness and literal darkness, and instead goes for shock horror. In it's inception, Guro Lolita coords were notorious for always fitting into one mold, a white/shiro dress splattered in fake blood. Eventually, Guro Lolita evolved into a much more complex and nuanced style. One of it's perks nowadays is that despite it's association with the strictness of Lolita fashion, it is very versatile in that the coords may range from cutesy Yami Kawaii hospital prints, to dark and dreary horror patterns. It is seldom worn as an everyday style due to how over the top it is (and it's usually worn on Halloween by more mainstream Lolita enjoyers), but exceptions exist.

So blue, so broken, paper doll decays...
Tumblr media
Iryou Kei: Translating literally as "medical type" or "nurse type", this fashion style originated from the Visual Kei music genre. As many Vkei bands (who are famous and infamous for their elaborate costumes, outside of Casual Visual Kei of course) this style is focused on being visually shocking. Iryou Kei performers tend to dress up as either blood splattered doctors, evil nurses and any other medical staff you wouldn't want to see in a state like this. You could say that Iryou Kei takes the elegance of Lolita, the rock elements of Visual Kei and the grotesque nature of Gurokawa, and transforms it into it's own medically horrifying thing. Some known Iryou Kei bands include but are not limited to: LuLu, +ISOLATION, and Sex Android.

The doctors will see you now!

Busukawaii: Translated literally as "ugly cute", this aesthetic is also occasionally called Kimokawaii or "disgusting cute". In real life there are many animals and critters that look unpleasant but you can't help but want to squeeze them, Busukawaii is based around this principle. For a short while Busukawaii was a bit of a meme on Japanese social media websites where one would do Yume Kawaii or pastel edits of ugly, plain or strange characters and people. Then it grew it its own lesser art movement. There aren't any fashions with this style outside of prints with those adorably ugly, plain or just strange looking characters mentioned earlier.
