Ahem, uh, Dongsik x Juwon Pride and Prejudice AU please?

ohhhh hi anon!!! thanks for the prompt!! this might turn into something i post on ao3 if i can get my brain to do it.

Dong Sik blinks as the door to his friends shop bursts open, the broad shoulders and dark attire immediately sparking recognition in Dong Sik. It wasn't uncommon for Joo Won to frequent the small butcher shop, it was the only one for miles but Dong Sik had figured he would only come when Jae Yi was around. The two seem to have an understanding of the other, as Jae Yi is one of the few people who defends the man when others complain about his attitude.

He stands quickly, smoothing down his shirt and blinking in confusion as Han Joo Won stands awkwardly by the door and doesn't say anything.

The clock in the corner ticks and Dong Sik stares, "Joo Won-ssi?"

The man startles and fidgets with his jacket, a sign of nervousness that Dong Sik has rarely seen from the younger man. He doesn't say anything, his lips tightening into a fine line and Dong Sik is struck again by how awkward the situation is.

Dong Sik clears his throat, shifting his weight from one foot to the other and cautiously states, "Do you want to sit down?"

The man makes a motion towards the chair but then must change his mind as he sways and then stays in the exact same spot. Joo Won opens his mouth once, then once again before he snaps it shut loudly. The sound of teeth smacking together makes Dong Sik flinch.

"Umm... Jae Yi's not here. She had an appointment..."

Joo Won nods sharply, glancing around the butcher shop and then at the cleaning supplies Dong Sik hadn't put away yet. "This...place looks very...clean."

Dong Sik blinks a few times, trying to process the information and nods slowly, "I figured it would be nice for Jae Yi to come back to a clean shop..."

Joo Won nods, swallowing a few times, "Yes...she is the only one that runs this place. I-It might be nice for her to...have help."

Dong Sik blinks again, his mind racing as he cant help but think 'what the hell is going on with Han Joo Won??'

It was a well known fact that Joo Won hated Dong Sik or at the very least saw the older man as less then. They barely get along for the sake of their friends and each encounter is always filled with tension, annoyance, and sass (on Dong Sik's part). So why was he here and acting so strangely?

Silence fills the room and Joo Won fidgets more, pulling on his buttons like he might take his coat off, so Dong Sik clears his throat, "Do you want me to get some tea? Or maybe coffee?"

That seems to encourage Joo Won a little bit, he stumbles over his words (also something Dong Sik has never witnessed before but has now seen twice in one setting) and half mumbles out, "Ah...No, thank you. I just wanted to-."

The door to the butcher shop bursts open again and Jae Yi comes through, shaking her umbrella off before glancing up at the two. Dong Sik sees her look of confusion, "Joo Won-ssi, what are you doing here?"

Dong Sik watches as the man stops fidgeting, pulls his coat closer to himself and then bows to both of them, "Have a good day."

He walks out swiftly, bowing slightly towards Jae Yi before slamming the door closed behind him. Both of them watch the door with confusion on their face and Jae Yi shoots Dong Sik a suspicious look, "What did you do to Joo Won-ssi, ahjussi?"

Dong Sik sputters for a second, his eyebrows furrowing, "Me?? I didn't do anything to him! He just came in here super awkward, barely said anything and then left."

Jae Yi doesn't look away and just raises her eyebrows, "Ahjussi, you tease him incessantly. What did you say this time?"

Dong Sik scoffs, "Yah! That's because he's always rude to me and deserves it. I'm telling you Jae Yi-ah, I just offered him tea!"

Jae Yi snorts, glancing at the door before shaking her head, "Well, he doesn't usually get that flustered, I wonder what was wrong."

Dong Sik shakes his head, glancing back at the cleaning supplies and then at the door again. What was going on with Han Joo Won?

Which One? Joo Hyuk - Part 8, Final Chapter

Genre: Coffee Shop!AU

Pairing: Joo Hyuk x You

Warnings: Mild cursing

Prologue, Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Epilogue | Words: 2,664

You were fairly sure your heart had just stopped.

Like, literally stopped. It was no longer beating because you had died of embarrassment.

“Oh my god,” you muttered after you realized it was actually you and Joo Hyuk on the Kiss Cam.

ON THE KISS CAM!

“Oh, wow,” Joo Hyuk said with a nervous chuckle.

You slumped down in your chair and hid your face with your hand, but you could see Joo Hyuk putting his own hands up and waving them slightly in front of him as if to tell the cameraman ‘nope, not today.’

A few seconds later, he murmured, “Okay, it’s gone.”

Your eyes flicked up to the screen just to be sure, and indeed, you saw another couple who had no qualms kissing each other.

“Wow, that --”

The camera cut from that couple, though, and you and Joo Hyuk came back on the screen yet again.

Cheers erupted from the audience, and you heard a group of guys in your section cry out, “Come on! Kiss!”

Traitors!

Okay, they didn’t know you and Joo Hyuk were barely dating. They didn’t know you and Joo Hyuk at all. But still. They were traitors.

You shifted uncomfortably in your seat, averting your gaze and hoping you looked as embarrassed as you felt. If the cameraman felt bad for you, maybe he would cut away quickly and move on to someone else.

Joo Hyuk, again, waved a hand and this time actually said out loud, “No, no.”

You figured your self-conscious face was no longer on the screen when you heard the crowd begin to boo. They were obviously disappointed the two of you hadn’t kissed after being shown twice now, but oh well. They could deal with it.

“All right, it’s over,” Joo Hyuk told you, though he wasn’t looking at you.

“Good grief, I don’t think I’ve ever been so embarr---”

The crowd suddenly erupted into cheers again, and they began chanting KISS KISS KISS KISS!

Oh, come on.

It couldn’t be.

But one look up at the Jumbotron confirmed your fears.

You and Joo Hyuk were up there for a third time.

“Oh, my god!” you whined in disbelief, practically doubling over as you buried your face in your hands.

You waited for Joo Hyuk to make another dispute, but instead of hearing him say anything related to the word No, you heard him mutter. “All right, come here.”

You sat up, and before you knew it, Joo Hyuk’s hands were on either side of your face.

He was leaning toward you.

And then his lips were on yours.

Unsurprisingly, the stadium filled with approving cheers, claps, and whistles. Even though probably half of the spectators were out of their seats buying food and drinks, it still felt like every single person there was watching you, applauding your kiss with Joo Hyuk.

Your first kiss with Joo Hyuk.

Hopefully not your last but definitely your first. There was no margin of error on that one.

...Oh, great. Your first kiss was in front of thousands of people. On the Kiss Cam at a sporting event.

Joo Hyuk pulled away after only a couple of seconds, but he stayed close to your face, his hands still cradling your cheeks.

“Sorry,” he whispered.

You managed to shake your head the tiniest bit, not wanting in the least to force him to take his hands away. You very much liked the warmth of his skin against your cheeks. “No, it--it’s okay,” you whispered back. “We... didn’t have much choice, it seems.”

“No, not really,” he chuckled, his breath fanning over your lips and reminding you of that ever so brief kiss.

Joo Hyuk slowly let his hands drop from your face, his fingers sliding off practically one-by-one. He leaned away from you, and a soft, nervous laugh bubbled up from your throat.

Now that the kiss was over and you were each back in your own personal spaces...

Well, you could hardly stand to look at him because you were so embarrassed.

So, after about a minute or two of just sitting there, avoiding each other’s gazes and drinking the last of your beers, you cleared your throat.

“I, uh -- I’m going to use the restroom,” you told him, barely waiting for his response before standing and heading over to the stairs.

You took this time to compose yourself and, of course, call your best friend.

“Hey, you!” Jane greeted cheerfully. “How’s it going?!”

“Well, we were on the Kiss Cam,” you told her immediately, not doing anything to hide your slight panic.

“WHAT?!”

“We didn’t do it at first, but then they came back to us -- twice. So we kissed. And now it’s really awkward.”

“Please listen to me, Y/N,” Jane pleaded. “Just tell him you feel awkward. Get it out in the open. Once you do, you can move past it or you can just both feel awkward together.”

Obviously, you didn’t want to tell him. But Jane was more experienced than you; she knew what she was talking about! And she cared about you. She would never steer you in the wrong direction willingly.

“Okay,” you breathed. “I’m going to head back, the game should be starting again soon. I’ll just tell him.”

“Good for you!”

You nodded to yourself, hoping it would help boost your confidence, and then you a murmured a ‘good-bye’ to Jane before hanging up.

The players were coming back onto the field as you jogged down the stairs to get back to your seat, and you let out a soft sigh as you plopped back down on the hard, plastic chair.

“Just in time,” Joo Hyuk grinned.

“Yep,” you replied. “Sorry, I just -- it was a little awkward after that -- you know.”

Joo Hyuk’s smile turned shy, but he nodded in agreement. “Yeah, it was. But now we can focus on the game.”

“Right, exactly!” you chuckled.

The two of you stood as the players formed their line-up on the field, and when the whistle blew to start the second half, you almost let out a very long, deep sigh of relief.

Well. You’d gotten that over with. And it had been pretty painless, too!

Thanks, Jane!

The rest of the game was uneventful comparatively. The Tigers scored two more times, so you and Joo Hyuk double-high fived two more times, and there were some pretty rough fouls, but nothing even close to the Kiss Cam Incident happened.

So, that was good!

When the final whistle blew and the horns blared to celebrate the Tigers’ win, you and Joo Hyuk cheered and clapped and were far happier and way less awkward than you had been about an hour ago.

As it is with most crowded events, pretty much everyone started leaving at the same time. You and Joo Hyuk filed out of your row and headed up the stairs with everyone else in your section, Joo Hyuk following behind you.

When you reached the main level of the stadium, the crowd got even larger, a huge mass of people moving toward the exit at the same time. You felt Joo Hyuk’s hand on your shoulder, obviously not wanting to lose you. You were extremely tempted to reach up and just take his hand...

So, you did.

You lifted your arm and put your hand over his, grasping his fingers and moving his hand from your shoulder so you could lead him back to your car.

Of course, your heart was pounding.

But he didn’t let go.

In fact, you continued to hold hands once the crowd dispersed in the parking lot. But then Joo Hyuk murmured that he was going to take off his jacket, so that was the end of it.

You almost wondered if he’d done that on purpose because holding hands had made him too uncomfortable...

Once the two of you were in the car, waiting to back out of your parking space, Joo Hyuk requested you simply take him back to The Mug.

“Ji Soo is still there, so I should probably help finish closing up,” he told you, looking at his phone screen, presumably a text message from Ji Soo.

“Oh, yeah, closing by yourself is no fun,” you remarked. You’d worked enough retail jobs to know this very well.

You managed to inch your way out of the parking lot, your conversation with Joo Hyuk shifting from the game to The Mug. You’d been wondering for a while about the origins of their cute little shop, so you finally decided to ask.

“Well,” Joo Hyuk began with a sigh. “We both grew up here, but we went to college a ways away from here, so we were there for quite a few years. We decided to open up a coffee shop because that’s just what we wanted to do. We both like coffee, I have the business brain, Ji Soo has the customer service brain -- we figured it would be perfect. We tried finding places to rent where we used to live, but there just wasn’t anything. So we both thought ‘why don’t we move back home?’. We found this space, and here we are.”

Ha! So they were new in town.

Kind of.

The point was, you’d been right about not seeing them around before. Two guys as attractive as them and a single girl like you? You would’ve known who they were, so you felt mightily vindicated to hear they had just recently moved.

“Well, I’d say you guys made the right decision. It seems like you’re doing really well,” you said, glancing over at him.

“Yeah, I think we are. We’re about to look for a part-timer, so that’s a good sign. And we’re going to pay you back for helping with our Instagram, too, don’t worry,” he assured you.

“No! Joo Hyuk, I’m serious, you don’t have to. The free drinks are more than enough. I would’ve done it for nothing.”

“Would you really have done it for nothing? Or are you just saying that to be polite?” he asked with a smirk.

“I really would have. I know stuff like that is my job, and I’m glad I do get paid, but it’s my job because it’s what I love to do.” You took a gulp before continuing on, mentally thanking Jane again for being your cheerleader. “And I like you guys. I like your shop. Any excuse to go there, I’ll take it.”

Okay, sure. It wasn’t a confession or anything, but...

“That’s good to hear,” Joo Hyuk mumbled, his grin very apparent in his voice. “You’re welcome any time.”

You pulled into The Mug’s parking lot just as you were starting to feel completely comfortable and hardly awkward at all -- of course. You and Joo Hyuk had been talking more about starting the shop, and it had turned into him telling you all these funny and embarrassing stories about being friends with Ji Soo.

It was wild how similar he was to Jane! You were pretty certain you could become really good friends with Ji Soo, especially if you and Joo Hyuk actually started dating.

“Well, here we are,” you said with a sigh as you pulled into the spot closest to the entrance. “Thanks for coming. And say ‘thank you’ to Ji Soo for covering for you.”

“I will,” Joo Hyuk chuckled. “Thanks for inviting me, I had a really good time.”

“Me, too,” you grinned.

You watched as he unbuckled his seatbelt, your heart suddenly racing because you wondered if he would lean over and kiss you.

Not only were you wondering it... you were hoping. You wanted him to.

You knew that meant you should just go ahead and do it.

But before you could say or do anything, Joo Hyuk was opening the car door and sliding out of his seat.

“Thanks again,” he said, lifting his hand in a wave as he closed the door.

You simply waved back, hoping your disappointment wasn’t showing on your face. But Joo Hyuk had already turned to head inside, so it wouldn’t even matter if it was.

You let out a sigh, and as you moved to put your car in reverse, something caught your eye.

Joo Hyuk had taken off his jacket when the two of you had been walking through the parking lot, and once he’d sat down in your car, he had put it down on the floor.

Well, he’d forgotten it.

You quickly bent to grab it, unbuckling your seatbelt and turning off your car so you could run in and give it back to him.

But as soon as you set foot outside, he was there.

He wasn’t in the shop or even on his way to the shop.

He was standing practically right in front of you.

“Oh!” you gasped, startled by his sudden appearance. “Oh, my gosh. Sorry, you -- you forgot your jacket.”

The expression on his face was quite serious, his brow furrowed earnestly as he took a few steps toward you.

“I couldn’t go inside -- I had to come back because I have to tell you something,” he said.

“...What is it?” you asked softly, your voice almost trembling.

“I like you. I’m sorry I haven’t had the nerve to say it before now, but I like you. I’ve liked you since I spilled that drink on you.”

Your heart had leaped into your throat at his words, but you still managed to smile at him and say, “I like you, too.”

This prompted Joo Hyuk to take another step toward you, and he reached out to take your hand.

“So, this was a date, right?” he asked, running his fingers over your knuckles.

You nodded.

“So... can we have a re-do on that kiss?”

“Oh, yes, definitely,” you replied with a breathy chuckle. And without missing a beat, you stood on your toes and pressed your lips to his.

Joo Hyuk let go of your hand but only so he could slide his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him. You smiled into the kiss, managing to wrap your own arms around his neck while still holding his jacket.

Speaking of...

You pulled away just slightly, letting your nose brush over his. “So, you didn’t take off your jacket as an excuse to stop holding my hand?” you whispered, smirking.

“No,” he chuckled. “I had wanted to take it off even before then because the crowd of people got too hot.”

“So you were suffering silently.”

“Yes. But no because I was holding your hand.”

A very soft laugh escaped through your lips, and you were just about to lean in for another kiss when you remembered --

“Also, I lied to you earlier,” you admitted.

“You did?” he asked, squeezing your waist. “What about?”

“Ji Soo did bug me to ask you out. And I didn’t actually have an extra ticket. I just made that up to make it easier for me to ask you.”

Joo Hyuk’s lips pulled into a grin, and he shook his head slightly. “I’m not surprised. He’s been on my case since the beginning. I knew it was only a matter of time before he moved on to you.”

“Since the beginning? What do you mean?”

“When I came back from taking you home that night, he slapped me in the back of the head for not offering to pick you up again the next morning. He’s been scolding me to be more obvious ever since,” he chuckled.

“Well, I think it’s pretty obvious now,” you replied.

“Yeah, I think so,” Joo Hyuk whispered before capturing your lips in another kiss.

Not even ten seconds later, you heard the squeak of the front door. Before you could pull away, you heard a very loud and cheerful whoop.

“Hell yeah!” Ji Soo cried, punctuating his glee with some applause. “It’s about time!”

Yeon Joo’s instincts are becoming honed--enough that she is starting to have to watch herself for heroine behavior. But heroines have to deal with plot-twists, too.

Chapter 111 - HYPOTHESIS 3a: While the Killer's Free, W's Plot Goes On (1103 words)

Yeon Joo knew that minor logistical things always worked out for Kang Chul in W because he was a hero, but she was starting to wonder about how many things were working out for her lately that probably shouldn't. Keeping Chul's presence in the house from her mother--twice. And now, there was the matter of the Ulsan house. Her grandmother was away with her daughter in Busan while her son's family was in America for a year, leaving the house empty. Yeon Joo unloaded her father with some trouble, but managed to get him settled in the room that was usually her grandmother's, so had a mat floor rather than a Western bed. It seemed suspiciously like the sort of explanation her father might write if forced to make the logic apparent.

She moved her things into the front room, where she could install the tablet, when she was ready. She also could sleep on the couch, and not pass through any doorways to get to the kitchen.

It felt a little--no, it felt very disrespectful to intrude on the house her uncle, aunt, and grandmother had left neat with not just her luggage but also her situation. She had a lot of trouble falling asleep that night, the somewhat familiar surroundings making her sense of unease even more acute. She knew it was dangerous, even lying down in her sleep, to think of Chul. She had dreamed herself in W before. But she couldn't help but think about at least the situation. She tried to not think of his face, but the story. That was dangerous, too.

To think of a mystery waiting to be solved, and the complexities of inventing a solution that would fit a many-volume manhwa that had gone truly off the rails, brought to mind the narrow triangle of his back, walking to the world that wanted to kill him because its creator had planned that. So instead, what was going to be on the pages of that notebook? Would something unfold that would make her devastating idea about it irrelevant? She hoped so.

She fell asleep finally, more spooked by the lack of roadway rumble and the rather strangely thick darkness of a country house, thinking about what she might do the next day.

She woke with about the usual assortment of little aches and strains of sleeping on something that was not ones own bed, and carefully did not reflect on the way she'd woken up a day ago, a little stiff but feeling completely rested.

She was absently rinsing the rice a little more than necessary, when she heard someone come in, and she saw her father walk in.

"Yeon Joo," he said, his face wide with surprise. "What is going on? Why are we here?"

"Dad!" she exclaimed. "Whatever my plan was, it's worked out better than I thought. Are you feeling OK?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" he looked puzzled.

"Oh, I'm so glad. Here, have some water."

"Thank you," he said, as she turned to get some. She moved a little more slowly.

"I'm still making my plan for the day," she said, carefully, going through the motions of getting a glass and pulling a pitcher of water from the fridge while also listening for any sudden movement. "I just did the long drive down here yesterday, so we may as well stay a day. Did you like your room?"

"Yes, it was fine," he said.

She set the water on the counter in front of him, and went toward her luggage in the living room, trying to appear aimless.

"I think I'll go to the market, there's no vegetables here, so we'll need something to eat. Want to come along?"

"Sure."

The hairs that were standing up on her neck positively crackled with his mild grin at her.

"First let me send an e-mail," she said, stopping short of her belongings beside the couch. She sent an image to her father's e-mail, and hoped it would work.

She then grabbed the box with the tablet in it and bolted.

Han Sang Hoon was fast, but she had at least the advantage of knowing the placement of everything in the room, taking a jump over a small table that she probably wouldn't have dared (certainly not with a heavy box in her hands) anytime she was not awash in adrenaline. She had the slightest moment of struggle with the doorknob, and he caught up with her--but he didn't try to catch her. He just wrenched the box out of her hands, while the door opened under her hands.

She stumbled out into the street, and it was the street she knew, but somehow just a little too composed. This was W. And no one was behind her in the doorway. She walked back into the house, now the familiar place she had followed the new Chul when she'd been stuck here again.

Only to be struck by a rank smell. Gagging, she stumbled back out of the house.

What should she do? Who was dead in there?

She retched several times in the garden, then walked down the street to the corner store where she asked to use the phone. Though even in W's rural parts a young person like her would have a cellphone, she was able to say she'd lost it with her keys. The phone call she made to the police was well overheard by the lingering shop keeper (after all, the store had the real estate of a small boat). Since there was no way this would stay low-key, she also asked the police to call W Broadcast's Yoon So Hee.

"She knows the owners of the house," she said.

She went back to wait on the police. Forced herself to go inside to double-check her own father wasn't in there, first, and was equally relieved and distressed to see no signs of him or the man with his face.

The officers of course wanted to know how she had found the body, but she said as a matter of privacy she had to wait for Yoon So Hee to come. They pointed out it would take hours for anyone to get there from Seoul. "You are welcome to hold me until then, I understand the position you are in," she said.

That, they decided, would not be necessary. She was asked to come with them to the station, however, and she felt like she was becoming her own little cliché as she sat in the police car then sat in the small, disorganized police office.

[TRANS] 170528 Lee Youjin V Live Broadcast (PD101S2)

Lee Youjin, one of the eliminated trainees from Produce 101, held a live broadcast on Namoo Actors V App channel last night! He answered fan questions and talked about his time in Produce 101 so here are some highlights about what he said about the other trainees.

Fan Questions:

The trainees he was closest to were his roommates at the start of the program! He roomed with Yoon Jisung, Kim Sihyun, Lee Hoorim, Kim Hyunwoo from YG K+. He couldn’t give Jisung a call bc he was probably busy (the only one left on the show).

He talked about how he was the leader twice during (for Be Mine team 2 and Rhythm Ta). He thought being leader would be easy bc he only needed to guide and lead the other members but it was a lot more difficult than he thought.

For Be Mine, he couldn’t really help the other members with learning the dance so he felt sorry towards them. Maybe if he had chosen an easier song they wouldn’t have had such a hard time. “Truthfully i couldn’t be of any help to the others, but through our struggles we got closer and did well.“

He really likes Park Jaebum’s (Jay Park) style so that’s the reason why he chose some of the concepts that he did on PD101! He wanted to be sexy like him (t/n: I think he’s talking about his performance evaluation)

The staff played Pick Me in the background but since he was caught off guard, he was able to dance only part of it. He said the trainees practiced it so much he could do the dance in his sleep.

He promised to try and call Taewoo later! He’s in a group chat with Taewoo and Taemin so they talk a lot. They’re really fun and interesting.

A fan commented “add me to the chat too~” so he said “send us your ID (t/n: kakaotalk ID)” lol

A fan asked “Who is the most handsome in PD101″ and he said “Everyone is handsome!”

He showed off the headphones he got for completing the first stage of maboy.

Youjin’s Pick Corner!

The staff set up a bracket board to see who Youjin’s pick was among his fellow contestants on PD101. When he saw the board he said, “Wow, this is like picking for the World Cup.”

First Round:

Lee Woojin vs. Kim Yongguk vs. Jung Sewoon (he said Woojin is cute but Sewoon really helped him with the hardships of being a leader. Even though they weren’t close, they talked and texted so he was really touched. That’s why he picked Sewoon)

Lee Insoo vs. Hong Eunki vs. Kang Daniel (he chose Daniel bc he was the leader for 열어줘 and taught them a lot. Youjin said everyone in the group was already good so he had to match them well)

Kim Donghyun vs. Im Youngmin vs. Joo Jinwoo (he depended on Youngmin a lot during Be Mine and is very thankful towards him)

Kang Dongho vs. Takada Kenta vs. Kim Taewoo (he picked Taewoo bc he’s funny, sings well, and is bright. He got really close to him during the show)

Lee Kiwon vs. Yoon Heeseok vs. Kim Seonglee (he picked Seonglee and said he had enough skills to compete in any program. During practice he would lift the mood and make the trainees happy but it wasn’t broadcasted)

Lee Gwanghyun vs. Park Sungwoo (he picked Sungwoo and pet the sticker with his face on it lolol. Although Sungwoo endured a lot, he was always by Youjin’s side. They were together for Be Mine and also for 열어줘 before being eliminated. Even though Youjin was having a hard time too, he felt sorry for not being able to help him)

Second Round:

Jung Sewoon vs. Kang Daniel

Im Youngmin vs. Kim Taewoo (he chose Taewoo bc they both fell down the ranks together(?) lol)

Kim Seonglee vs. Park Sungwoo (he chose Sungwoo bc he went through a lot of hardships)

Third Round:

Kang Daniel vs. Kim Taewoo

Park Sungwoo (automatic win)

FInal Round:

Kim Taewoo vs. Park Sungwoo (when he chose Taewoo, he put his sticker on the #1 spot and pat it several times; “It’s a pity that it’s not broadcasted but he’s really funny. We practiced a lot together.”)

Youjin felt a little shy and embarrassed bc he was filming V Live alone and there were a couple Namoo staff members watching him.

He has a lot of white clothing, even white shoes.

A fan asked about the meaning of his username nay_kid and he said it meant something like “live a sincere life.” Another way of saying “no” was “nay” and “kid” is to remind him of his dreams when he was a student.

He was drinking coffee throughout the broadcast. He loves americano.

When he reached 50k hearts, he got really shy from all the love.

A fan asked if he was okay and he said yes, he’s okay and will even get checked up at the hospital so do not worry!

He has 7 self-composed songs so far! He has a lot more songs he wants to make but he doesn’t have a room for it. He wants to upload 2 songs in one month on his soundcloud.

A fan asked “you know you’re handsome, right?” and he said no, he didn’t find himself handsome but he does like how he looks and personally thinks he’s cute!

A fan asked if he was thinking about releasing an album but he said that although he wants to, he wants to work on the quality of his music a bit more and in order to release an album, he needs the support of the public/community so he’ll just upload the album on soundcloud. That way, it’s free for everyone to listen to!

A fan commented “Remember to drink a lot of water!” and he replied with “I only drink a lot of coffee.”

A fan asked “Is pressing hearts important?” and he replied with “I don’t know but please press a lot!!”

He wasn’t good at aegyo before but now he’s a lot better.

A fan asks where he learned to be so talented (?) and he said “Maybe it’s in my blood.”

He has two sisters, one older who cooks well and one younger by 6 years. He’s a bit cold like his father but his mother and older sister like to take care of him. He never fights with his sisters. Since his younger sister is still young, he hopes she studies diligently and doesn’t drink alcohol. His and his older sister’s hair looks similar. He wants to care for his younger sister too but he doesn’t really know how.

Someone asked about his taste in music but he made a pass on the question bc his answer would be too long LOL

He’s holding an event where he’s giving away items that he uses often, these includes a tracksuit he wears (for girls it may be a bit big but it’ll be warm! size 100), sunglasses, and some signed selfie polaroids.

He showed the viewers the items one by one. The sunglasses were in a case with a zipper and when he opened it the zipper fell off LMAO he kept saying it wasn’t fake, the zipper just happened to fall off bc he pulled too hard and kept laughing lololol

He had the viewers guess who his favorite artist was and promised to gift them the tracksuit! He said even tho he’s worn it, he’ll keep it very clean.

His favorite artist is Giriboy! He said when others are stressed, they may drink but he listens to Giriboy’s music instead. He really admires all of his music, it inspires him. He can sing all of his songs; his favorite by him is called “All Day Long” but not many people know it.

The second prize was the sunglasses. There’s a play he always watches every year ever since the 12th grade, he wants to participate in one bc of it. (t/n: the fans were able to guess what is was but I couldn’t really catch the name of it, sorry)

Third prize was a signed polaroid selfie! When he took the selfie and waited for it to show up on film, he kept shaking it and when he realized he wasn’t supposed to shake it, he got embarrassed.

He wrote one of his songs after watching a specific movie (t/n: I couldn’t hear the title sorry) but the song is called “Why Don’t You Call Me”.

He had a lot of fun doing the V Live bc he knows how it feels to be a fan of another person and watch their broadcasts, now he can be the one doing the broadcast and it’s fun!

He wants to take on a high school student role in his acting career bc when he’s older he won’t be able to act as a student.

He eats alone and doesn’t have a favorite food but the foods he can’t eat is tomato sauce and mustard.

His least favorite season is summer bc he dislikes mosquitoes. He likes winter bc there’s snow and Christmas. It gives him a warm and cozy feeling.

When he was younger he really liked Harry Potter, his favorite part of the series was Chamber of Secrets! (This was another quiz question for the viewers, he gave away another signed selfie polaroid)

He wants to communicate with fans more but he can’t do V Live whenever he wants and he doesn’t have a fancafe :(

The Future of the Trainees (Part 2)

These are just some opinions about the trainees whose position evaluation stages were already aired, their skills and their chances of passing the elimination/making it into the final group.

If It Was You

Kim Yongguk (Rank 34 -> Rank 35)

Chances – Well, it seems like Mnet doesn’t mind Yongguk going up in ranks because they really focused on him this episode. This is sort of nice because I think it’s always hard for the shier and more introverted people on reality shows to let their personality shine through. They don’t make friends as easily so there’s probably not much footage of them conversing with other trainees and they’re not really the type to ham it out in front of the camera alone. Especially, in Yongguk’s case because he probably didn’t think he’d need to make friends right away since he had his labelmate. And he actually does talk about this in his interviews which is really sweet because he didn’t need to mention him considering that he was out of the competition so very early on. I think Mnet couldn’t predict the ranks that some trainees would get and from their editing in this episode it’s pretty obvious whom they don’t mind being popular and whom they want to go down in ranking. And from their editing of Yongguk I would say that they’re quite partial towards the idea of him going up. I mean they provide sad music over his interviews, they show him practicing for ‘Nayana’ to highlight his progress (I think he’s always been good, it was just probably harder for him when Kim Sihyun left and he didn’t know that he was going to be quite popular), they show the trainers and trainees fall in love with voice. It’s one of the nicest editing anyone’s received on this show – it not only shows that he’s a nice kid but also points out his strengths. Considering all this and the fact that he is very good-looking, there’s a good chance of him receiving a higher rank next time. Yongguk will definitely get into the Top 35 (he’s already in it) and I personally would bet on him getting into the Top 22. However, I don’t think he has much of a chance of getting into the final group just because there are around 20 trainees already fighting for these 11 spots.

Skills – I already knew that Yongguk was a good vocalist and I was surprised that everyone else on the show was so shocked. He was good and stable during his evaluation stage, he was good and stable during the ‘Boy in Luv’ stage which garnered so much attention – how did his (and Gunmin’s skills) fly under the radar? Yongguk did the high note in the latter performance to boot. I guess his vocals do shine through more in a soulful ballad where he is also able to project emotions into his singing. Yongguk’s also a pretty clean dancer although I do think he lacked energy in both of his performances which isn’t terrible or striking. (By the way, Kim Sihhyun is also a good vocalist, I hope that Yongguk gains anough fans for their label to debut them after the program.)

Joo Jinwoo (Rank 45 -> Rank 42)

Chances – It was nice of Mnet to give attention to Yongguk, it absolutely sucks that they barely gave any to Jinwoo. His rank is pretty consistent but it’s also quite below the cut-off line for the next elimination so that’s not a good sign, especially now that he didn’t really get any screentime in the sixth episode. If he didn’t have the ‘L’ sticker on his shirt, I wouldn’t have even realized that he was the leader – I would’ve assumed it was Yehyun. It’s also Jinwoo’s second time being the leader so I am sure that it was very much deserved, it’s a shame we didn’t get to see it. He is a great vocalist who actually got a chance to showcase that in this evaluation (unlike other less fortunate souls) but the only thing we get to see in practice is Seonglee beating him out of the center position. I think that Seonglee is a better vocalist but I also think that Seonglee is the best vocalist on the show and Jinwoo, while worse, is still better than many. You get to hear that in the performance but I don’t trust netizens to pick up on that without Mnet pointing it out. I have seen that Koreans commented about him under the video of the performance, although they mainly pointed out his looks. It’s nice to see that even the lower ranking trainees are getting attention – it makes me believe that even if you don’t get into the final group and even if the show is terribly biased and extremely stressful for the contestants, it might be beneficial for them in the end. It also helps that Jinwoo is from MMO and, considering Daniel’s and Jisung’s popularity, the label will probably (or at least should) debut a boy group after all this. This is a comforting thought because I really don’t think he will pass the next elimination.

Skills – As I said – he’s a good vocalist. That’s actually what I have written down about him after his introduction video. His voice might not be as explosive as some other ones on this show but I don’t particularly care about that. Jinwoo’s dancing is good for a trainee who wasn’t looking at the position of a dancer in the group.

Kim Seonglee (Rank 46 -> Rank 51)

Chances – I am not too optimistic about his prospects on the show. Which is a shame because I do think he is the best vocalist this season (completely subjective). His ‘Call Me Baby’ performance had the same effect on me that Yeonjung’s ‘Into the New World’ performance had on me last season. But because a lot of focus was given to Moonbok and Hyunwoo, not many people really noticed him. And this time around a lot of focus was given to Yongguk. We saw that he got the center position and… That’s it. I will give it to Mnet – they did show everyone’s reactions to his last note but it’s just not enough. It’s really frustrating because any time that the camera focuses more than 5 seconds on him, you can see that he is really funny. He waves to imaginary fans during the ‘Nayana’ practice, he hilariously beats his opponent during arm-wrestling, he shows a very honest reaction to the vocal trainer being more excited to work with the B-ranked kids. People keep saying that the group should have talented members and should have members who are good at variety. Seonglee is both!!! But we just don’t see enough of him for many people to fall for him. I am also going to assume that he doesn’t have his looks going for him (I am terrible at predicting who Koreans are going to find attractive) although I think he is a total bae. And again it’s nice to see that people did comment about him and pointed out that while Yongguk did great he wasn’t the only one. However, he’s probably not gonna pass this elimination and I have no idea what C2K is so I am pretty glum about his debut later on as well.

Skills – I’ve kinda already mentioned his singing twice, but I’m gonna praise it a third time because Mnet’s not doing a good job of it. Seonglee is simply phenomenal. I also would like to point out that he is probably the only one out of the top-tier vocalists this season who actually was A-ranked. And that is because he’s also a good enough dancer. Too bad we’ll probably lose him so early on.

Kim Yehyun (Rank 40 -> Rank 55)

Chances – Yehyun’s story on this show had actually restored my faith in netizens at some point. Because while you are right to get mad at Mnet for evil-editing and being biased towards certain trainees when it comes to screentime, you also can’t deny that people have eyes and brains of their own. I personally try to pay attention to as many trainees as possible even if they have very little screentime and when I see some kind of drama I don’t let Mnet put ideas in my head – I make my own observations and come to my own conclusions. And the fact that so many people fall so easily for Mnet’s games just confuses me. But with Yehyun I was really proud of netizens. He didn’t get any screentime and Koreans still saw that he helped a lot of trainees in the F rank with dancing (despite not being the best dancer at all), saw that he actually moved up to the C-rank, saw that he was a skilled, hard-working and nice kid. And he went up 59 ranks from the second episode to the third which I though was very deserving (although I am a bit biased because I also really do like his looks – I’m starting to see that Koreans and I have really different tastes). In the last episode he got quite bit of focus in his group, second only to Yongguk. I don’t know Korean but it seems like he studied Musical Theory and basically took control of the rearrangement of the song. I did honestly think he was the leader. You can also tell that he is a really nice kid from the scenes of him talking to Yongguk, he is quick to praise all of the members, quick to reassure, and he always seems so sweet and earnest. I really cannot complain about his screentime this episode. But Mnet did focus more on Yongguk and I don’t know if viewers can focus on two trainees from the same stage who are not in the Top 22. And considering that he also fell since the fifth episode, I feel like he’s probably not massing the next elimination. I am pretty pessimistic about his chances of debuting as well, because I have not heard of Widmay prior to the show.

Skills – I love the tone of his voice even when he is talking. I thought he really lacked in dancing when I watched his rank evaluation but it seems like he is better than I anticipated. He did help the other F-trainees and he did go up to C after the re-evaluation. In ‘Be Mine’ he looked decent but he was also dancing on a hurt foot so it’s hard to judge.

PS. I don’t really care for ballads or ballad performances but even I have to admit that they did beautifully. I understand the comments saying that they are ost-ready.

a W: Two Worlds retelling/fix-it fic (Oh Yeon Joo x Kang Chul)

The Truth Can Shatter Worlds (942 words)

Chul wished, at times, that he didn't see all the micro-expressions on a face--that he didn't know how to read them. He had to push Yeon Joo, though he could tell she was conflicted about telling him. She probably had good reason--he just couldn't wait any longer to understand why a monstrous assassin was after him, why she had been able to come in time to save his life. Twice. Why his life was being threatened at all.

"Fine. Last compromise, though," he said. "What I know is really limited.

You cannot be harmed, and you can disappear. You must not be a normal being. I don't know if you're an angel or a devil, but I don't really care. You said that I have to be the one surprised for you to leave, which means that you are not central--I am. But I don't know what that means. And no matter how I fit the data I don't have enough to answer."

She smiled a little when he said she could be an angel, but he had expected that. She didn't mock him once he was finished, though. Instead, she looked at the door, where any moment the investigators might come for her. Looked down at her hands.

"You can't go back from knowing this," she said. "I'm afraid...I'm afraid of what this will do to you."

"Please. I have to know."

"It's because it's a manhwa."

"You mean, you're from a manhwa?" he was puzzled. This seemed too bizarre, it didn't fit.

"No. You, Kang Chul, exist in a manhwa. And you are the main character." She had the strangest sad look on her face. "The things that happen to you are because someone is writing your life."

His mind went blank for a moment. Then, as he blinked, Yeon Joo disappeared.

The institutional room, with its blank walls and uniform furniture, seemed to assert that it wasn't true. Nothing strange had happened here--how could anything strange happen?

And yet, here he was, alone when just a moment ago a woman who would not drink wine but would hold his hand had sat with him.

A great part of him had believed there was going to be an ordinary explanation. Even when she disappeared seemingly from under his nose, he had expected her to somehow laugh it away. Instead, the part of him that was not reeling thought, "So, I have to feel this strongly about something for that to happen."

For a while he was unable to think anything else. Then he realized, I can't bear sitting still any longer.

He got up, left the room in a daze. Yeon Joo hadn't gotten to explain enough at all. A writer wrote his life--was that her? Who was she, and why could she come here?

Finally, the thought he'd been fighting with became words, became real in his mind.

I am not real. I am a manhwa character. Someone else controls my whole life.

Around him the world became quiet. Just as when he'd faced the killer. As he stepped into the busy thoroughfare at the center of the court building he found the world around him still. Everyone had just...halted. Mid-stride, mid-sentence, all around people had just ceased to truly exist.

The unbearable feeling grew worse. Was he going to die, this pain swallowing him, with no one around him even aware their lives had ended?

In the corner of his eye he saw an unnatural blue-green glow. He turned.

That was it. Here, in front of him, was a window that hung in the middle of his world, where nothing should be. A spying presence--where his sense of being guided, his certainty, had come from. He was written and controlled.

He stepped toward the blue-green sheet of light in the air, subtly crackling out. He reached out and touched it, saw his hand turn to nothing in front of him.

Maybe nothing was the only thing he could be, now.

He stepped into the bright, electric light.

Yeon Joo found herself sitting on her unkempt bed, just as she'd been sitting in a chair back in the city hall. She checked her clock, then her cellphone on the nightstand. It was the same day she'd left--rather, still the middle of the night.

She wasn't sleepy, though. In fact, as she picked up after her sick-day slovenliness, her energy only increase. Was it only days ago in W that she had left prison, feeling as though sleep were an impossible dream? She couldn't think about sleeping now. The energy seemed simmer under her skin, as though all the time that had passed in W were now waiting to be spent again.

What came next? Did she bide her time to see what happened to Chul? No, she had too much energy to not do something. If she were not going to be called back into W, what did she want?

It wasn't difficult to figure out. She'd spent all that time in prison wishing to be doing something with her hands, her mind. It might seem sudden, to those who didn't know what she had been through in W, but she was ready to go back to work.

She pulled out some of the medical journals that had stacked up during her sabbatical, and began to get her mind back in the game for surgery. When she had done as much of that as her mind could reasonably retain, she signed up for her continuing education training for the next year, then began on the files and paperwork to end her leave.
