Dune is a very interesting novel in a meta way and I do enjoy analyzing it on that level and in general, but defenders insisting that the book is a super progressive critique of imperialism, colonialism, and white saviourism need to sit down bc while Herbert definitely tries, he really does not succeed at it for various reasons, including very heavy Orientalism, even if he meant for the Fremen to be sympathetic and correct in their violent resistance in spite of what they go on to do between Dune and Dune Messiah.
